The morning sun filtered through the curtains of their humble home, casting a warm golden glow on the room. Shadow, now dressed in a comfortable robe, was kneeling by the kitchen counter, expertly decorating a cake with delicate icing flowers. She hummed softly, the faint sound of her knife slicing through the cake’s smooth surface a gentle background to the peaceful morning.

Today was special. It marked one year since she and Argenti had pledged their lives to each other, a bond forged in the fires of past pain and healed by love.

As she finished the final touches on the cake, she paused to admire it. A small smile tugged at her lips. She didn’t need anything extravagant to mark the occasion—just a quiet day with Argenti, perhaps a walk through the garden, or a shared meal. That was enough.

The soft sound of footsteps echoed behind her, followed by a deep, soothing voice.

“My Lady Shadow,” Argenti’s tone was as noble as ever, each word dripping with the weight of his knightly dedication. “I bring you a gift.”

Shadow turned to face him, her brow furrowing slightly in playful confusion. Argenti stood there, his usual armor polished to a gleaming perfection, but there was something different this time. He cradled something small and wriggling in his arms.

“What is it, Argenti?” she asked, her eyes narrowing with curiosity.

“Behold,” Argenti said, as if unveiling a treasure. He carefully lowered the small bundle into her arms, revealing a tiny kitten with fluffy fur, big innocent eyes blinking up at her. The kitten let out a soft mew, nuzzling into her chest.

Shadow blinked, her heart skipping a beat. She hadn’t expected this, not in a thousand years.

“This is…” She trailed off, momentarily speechless. “A kitten? Argenti, why…?”

“My Lady,” he began, his voice growing more formal as he explained. “As knights dedicate themselves to upholding the ideals of honor and beauty, so too do we commit ourselves to nurturing life in its many forms. You, my beloved, have long known the weight of loneliness, and it is my desire to bring warmth and joy into your life, as you have so generously brought into mine. This kitten, humble as it may be, is but a small token of my love for you.”

Shadow’s fingers gently brushed the kitten’s fur, a soft gasp escaping her lips. She had spent so long burying the pain from her past, focused on protecting those she loved and trying to keep others at arm's length. But here, in this moment, her walls cracked slightly, the warmth of the kitten—and Argenti’s words—beginning to melt the frozen part of her heart she hadn’t even realized was still there.

“You’ve truly thought of everything, haven’t you?” she murmured, looking up at him, her voice tinged with both gratitude and wonder.

Argenti gave her a rare, gentle smile. “It is a knight's duty to bring beauty and joy into the lives of those he holds dear, my lady. And you, Shadow, are the truest embodiment of beauty I have ever known.”

Her heart swelled with affection as she looked at the kitten, then back up at her husband. It had been a long, challenging year—one filled with growth, healing, and many shared moments—but standing here with him now, she felt an overwhelming sense of peace.

“Thank you, Argenti,” she whispered, her voice soft but filled with sincerity. “I never imagined someone would do something like this for me.”

He knelt before her, placing his hand over his chest in a gesture of deep reverence. “You are more than worthy of such gestures, Shadow. You deserve nothing less than the brightest of days, the softest of nights, and the most tender of love. I vow to continue to stand by your side, through all trials, as we walk together upon this path of beauty.”

Tears welled up in Shadow’s eyes as she gently cradled the kitten, her smile widening. She leaned forward, pressing a soft kiss to Argenti’s forehead. “I love you, Argenti. You’ve made this year more beautiful than I ever could have imagined.”

Argenti stood, his hand resting lightly on her shoulder. “And I shall spend every day for the rest of my life ensuring that each day with you is more beautiful than the last, my lady.”

The kitten let out a soft meow, as if agreeing with Argenti’s words, and Shadow couldn’t help but laugh—a sound that was as rare and beautiful as the gift in her arms.

“Yes,” she whispered, her heart full of love for both Argenti and the tiny creature. “This is the most beautiful anniversary gift I could ever have hoped for.”

And in that moment, surrounded by the quiet warmth of their home, Shadow knew that no matter what trials the future held, she and Argenti would face them together.

Yes of course!!!! i was between a few ideas, one is just the reader accidentally injuring themselves and gene jumps to immediate assumptions then laughs at you when he figures out you like... tripped and cut open your leg lol.

But i know what you all want, you want a ravenous force, a man so full of rage he brings hell to earth itself, yall want to see the blueberry man get his ASS kicked. (Note I decided to make this a continuation of 'Caught a Vibe' if you wanted something more along the lines of, someone tries to kill reader on purpose feel free to request that!)

Warnings: Mention of wrist injury, Gene guys i can not say this enough on my blog THE BAD GUYS ARE STILL BAD!!! Varying levels of bad especially in relationships but Gene, Zane, Ein, Etc. Etc. are all their own warnings! Be aware!! Violence. Mind Manipulation, Gene brainwashes people into cutting off a man's hands shits fucked, Also mention of murder but nothing explicit this time. If you want the specific's Reader has a dislocated wrist they haven't been treating.

Your wrist only got worse over time. The flesh darkened and became tender, swelling until you could hardly bend it without stabbing pains. You were unable to tend to your garden... at least not with tasks like weeding or replanting.

This was the longest Gene had stayed behind, and a part of you wished he hadn't you still remember the look in his eye as you were leaving the market a dark rage that sent a chill crawling to the very base of your spine. Gene has a way of drawing out deep primal instincts against your will, one change in demeanor from him forces your whole body into a cold sweat, Like a rabbit staring down the jaws of a wolf.

And what of that tension, the dark writhing mass of anger following him? Its only gotten darker and more oppressive with each day reflecting your bruising. You missed the birds in the day and crickets in the night, you missed your skin being clear of goosebumps, but most of all you missed what humanity was left of Gene. The cocky attitude and flirty smirk, the truly horrendous jokes... You haven't seen any sight of it since the morning after your journey to the market.

"Ah!"

Stabbing pain from your wrist to the ball of your shoulder, so sharp you swear you can feel it in your teeth. You jerk back with the shout, eyes shooting to Gene, But... he isn't looking at you, he has a eerily calm expression staring at your wrist, you wish you could say he's overreacting but, your wrist looks BAD... feels worse... practically immovable.

"You're getting that treated" His voice is cold and firm, there's hardly any room to argue with Gene when he's in a good mood, you feel like if you tried now you'd just be shouted out until he forcibly changed your mind... even if it is in your best interest, the idea makes a stone like dread form in your stomach. So instead, you inhale deeply before nodding

"Okay..."

"Now."

Okay that was more of a surprise, you never went to town when Gene was her, brought down the chance of trouble in.... multiple ways. Besides he tended to prefer having you to himself but before you can even say a word he's grabbing your cloak and fastening the cape of... well its best you don't ask how he got that guards uniform.... Less you know more you can deny.

The walk back to the village is... well how often can you describe something as tense? He's silent and staring forward eyebrows face tense... he's thinking on something dark, and he's thinking HARD. But, his fingers are laced with your own, and your pulled close as can be to his side, He walks you all the way to the Doctors... uses his Magicks to ensure you don't have to pay then...

"Meet me outside when your done okay?" Lightless dark blue eyes finally meet your own.

"Y.... You're not staying?" You look over in surprise, Gene NEVER left your side when he was with you sometimes you couldn't decide whether it was cute or suffocating now you were getting medical treatment and... he was leaving?

"No no, I got stuff to take care of Doll" Well that sure doesn't bode well.

"What do you have to do?" When you ask.. He chuckles darkly reaching out a hand and placing it on top of yout head.

"Don't you worry your little head about that yeah? I'll be right outside by the time your done, I'll even have a little suprise for ya" he hums with a warmth that doesnt reach his eyes then walks away as you hiss in pain, doctor starting work on your wrist.

Theres been a commotion outside, you haven't been able to investigate. A wrap and splint being put onto your wrist but there's been a lot of shouting for the past 20 minutes. A part of you wishes you felt more worried, after all, the main scenario playing through your mind is Gene has been discovered but... no one in this village could hope to hold their own against the shadow knight, Metal or wits. Thinking about him being discovered gives you more a sense of pity for the people of this village then concerns over your beloved.

It's not until you step out of the doctors building that you learn exactly how wrong you are. Theres a crowd gathered, all staring at a pleading and crying man... a man you recognize.

The blueberry vendor from a few sunrises ago has been forced to his knees in the time square, his face is bloody and bruised you'd be surprised if he can even see the men holding him in place, arms outstretched despite how desperately he claws the wooden barrel holding his arms up trying to escape, to plead his case.

"Here she is!" Genes voice calls your head snaps over as he walks towards you in full guard garb. He makes it to your side and with a flourish pulls out quite the fancy ring.

"He took this engagement ring from you, didn't he Doll?"

Only half of that was a question. And you could tell, either way this man was being framed for stealing a ring most likely from you. But staring into Dark blue eyes deeper than the sea as dark as the night, you know the question laced beneath this one.

"...Yes." you nod slowly swallowing away the... difficult emotion here, you don't quite know what it is. Something between guilt for the man... and dread. But deeper in you a warm electric feeling sparks in your chest of adoration and love as he slides the ring onto your finger... gently cradling your hands.

Right as the Vendor loses both of his.

With the screams in the backdrop and the tangy metallic scent of blood you realize something. That electricity is zapping its way through you, turning that guilt and gnawing feeling to ash. Maybe... your more twisted than you believed, after all... you need to be to love a man like Gene as deeply as you do.

i saw someone say that shadow knights would be cold-blooded biologically speaking bc they wouldn't need to be warm-blooded in the nether or smth and actually i very much enjoy this BECAUSE. a million years ago on an old account i made a post that shadow knights have to huddle together for warmth in the overworld (and sometimes will purposefully stay away from each other to try and freeze the other out) AND NOW I'M MAKING IT CANON AGAIN.

ANYWHERE outside of the nether, shadow knights get cold. i think it can be temporarily "fixed" with magic but nothing's as good as actual, physical warmth. usually this is the only time shadow knights aren't at each other's throats, unless you're gene, because gene is a dickhead. dude is a carnivore and next to no one wants to chance it. sasha is pretty much the only knight who'll saddle up with him (mostly bc she doesn't care about being bitten anymore) which is why gene will seek her out for missions specifically.

also yes they sunbathe.

also also, in relation to shadow knights, they get followed around by scavengers a lot... usually smaller ones like butterflies (inspired by a post i'll link if i find it again :3), other insects, carrion birds, lizards, and rodents, but sometimes they'll attract the attention of something bigger like a wolf if they're starving. larger creatures usually sense the Bad Vibes TM and don't want smoke with shadow knights, but littler creatures can be oddly persistent.

Small lore bits

Descendants of Irene have revamped lore and are far more important to the story

Levin has abilities, but they aren't unlocked completely until some time after the time skip

I'm thinking of giving him 2-3 abilities: Shield Construction (due to parentage and lore 👀), water manipulation/waterbending, and lightning manipulation (I'm thinking of having him gain it from being struck by lightning ((ALSO a fun reference for how RARE it is for players to get struck by lightning and since DOI will have an actual connection to Irene[player], they get the ups and downs of it)))

After the O'Khasis/Scaleswind VS Phoenix Drop War, all the bodies that had been killed/drowned in the ocean slowly turned into drowned (mob).

The drowned (plus other magical events-areas) end up creating tridents

Yeah, Levin is getting a trident, and he's gonna be channeling the oceans/water/lightning through it (channeling enchantment :)). He plus Malachi will garner quite the reputation... which will also be another reason why Trall [the bandit Michi sold Levin, Malachi, and Zoey too] and others would be interested in them ((another callback to why Irene kept her family a secret))

Levin, trying to protect the last bits of the village as well as his family, ends up flooding parts of Phoenix Drop to cut off intruders and bandits.

With the extra water plus the swamp/Mangrove swamp of the burned down Meteli, the waterways become more dangerous but also extremely helpful

More slimes, frogs, drowned, other water mobs allow for more items to trade, and because Malachi is a trader as well as a monster hunter, it's an added bonus/trade boost. (These bois are doing their BEST to provide for the village ((I just realized I might be projecting onto them by making these children take care of their family as much as they can and having to grow up quicker-more serious oop-)))

That's all for right now. I just wanted to get it down while it's fresh. I'll have to make a Malachi and Levin rewrite post soon, so keep an eye out for that! :D

we've never seen her in her shadowknight armor/form/whatever in canon, no. closest we got was this moment in s2 where her textbox?? went red. not even her eyes. the textbox.
