Shangqi enjoyed when you showered him with love and attention every now and then, but you noticed that he was more touchy feely than normal. It didn’t change the way you went about your day, nor did it change the way you love him. But you were curious as to what got him in this kind of mood. It got to the point where your signs of affection weren’t enough so after dinner, he dragged you into his room to passionately fuck you. An hour later, your lover spilled his taint inside you, pecking small kisses over your sweaty face.
Shangqi collapsed onto the bed next to you, lungs begging for fresh air as he came down from the blissful high that you brought him to. You giggled next to him, staring at the ceiling as if looking straight into the pearly gates of heaven. Your hands linked together in the middle of the bed, and then your eyes met like a magnet pulled you towards one another.
“You still with me, Princess?” your super boyfriend asked, dragging his thumb over your hand.
You smiled, “Yeah, just needed to catch my breath.”
“C’mere Princess, I wanna hold you.” You obligingly rolled over until your naked body was flush against Shangqi’s and he instantly wrapped his arms around you.
“Someone’s extra cuddly and affectionate today,” you teased, smiling until your cheeks were sore. What Shangqi was about to say next made you regret poking fun at him.
“I’m sorry if I’m too much, baby. I just don’t want you to leave me.” He hid his face into the crook of your neck. Your heart hurt like a bee had stung it and the wound swelled against your chest.
“Woah, now,” you frowned, worry and melancholy laced in your voice. “I love you and I would never leave you. Why would you ever think that?” Not a peep came from Shangqi as his face stayed buried there. You called out his name, almost like a whisper, causing him to peek his head out. His brown eyes glistened with tears that were aching to fall down his face.
“This is gonna sound silly.” As much as you wanted to retort and disagree with him, you allowed him to speak his mind. “Last night, I had a dream that you died while fighting the Scarlet Witch–well, Wanda–and I obviously didn’t take your death very well, so I joined her in helping her find her sons. And in turn, she promised to help me find a universe where we could be together again. The thing is, Wanda knew all along that there wouldn’t be a universe where you loved me because I followed the footsteps of my father. You only saw me as a killer.” Shangqi paused. Not because he was waiting for a response from you, but because he was fighting the urge to choke on his words.
“You know something. I was always curious about the multiverse. After my father died, I wondered what my life would be like if both my mother and father were still alive. Maybe I wouldn’t have had to spend my whole childhood learning to become an assassin. Maybe my relationship with my sister wouldn't be so strained. Maybe my mom and dad would have grown old together like they wanted. We could’ve been happy. We could’ve been a real family. But then I realized other things. I would’ve never met Katy. I would’ve never taken the rings. I wouldn’t have met your dad and become an Avenger.” Shangqi’s voice began to crack as a tear finally trickled down his cheek. “Most of all, I would never have met you.” His head burrowed into your neck again, sobbing while squeezing you tenderly against him. Your fingers combed through his hair tossled from your previous activities. You allowed him to cry until he was ready to continue.
“I don’t know how many other universes there are—I’d actually rather not know—-but I don’t ever want to live in a universe without you in it. I can’t live without you, Princess.” His words struck a chord deep inside you. He plucked that chord inside you as his wet tears permeated your collarbone. It didn’t register that you had been crying until a salty tear dripped onto your lip and you struggled to breathe out of your nose.
“Shangqi, look at me.” Your hand caressed his tear stained cheek, causing him to peer into your loving eyes. His vision was blurry due to his tearful eyes, but he still managed to find your gaze. “It was just a dream. I’m here and I’m safe with you. I didn’t have the privilege of jumping universes with Strange and America, but I doubt that you became your father in every universe. And I refuse to believe that I hated you in every universe.” You pressed your lips to his temple, leaving them there for a few seconds. He grinned slightly behind the sniffles.
“Your mind is playing games with you and I don’t want you listening to them. I love you, Shangqi, and nothing will ever change that.” While you talked, Shangqi rested his hand over yours on his cheek, drawing circles over your hand with his thumb. He loved how you always knew the right words to say that would make him feel better. After the years of pain he went through, you and your love were exactly what he needed.
Another tear trailed down your eye as your lips curled into a warm smile. “No matter how many universes there are in the multiverse, I hope every variant of me is lucky enough to be loved by you.”
Shangqi wasted no time in pulling you closer to him so he could kiss you. His lips molded against yours as if they were made to be sculpted together. He traced your bare skin with his taut hands, cherishing your ethereal curves. Without breaking the kiss, you threw your leg over his hips, hoisting yourself up so you can straddle him. Shangqi grinned against your lips at the sudden maneuver.
“Let me prove to you that I love you and will never leave you.” As you moved down his legs, Shangqi watched you with a smirk and a raised eyebrow. Grasping his cock, you stroked him until he was pulsing with desire in your hands. His raspy whimpers caused your core to slicken and throb with need. You were eager for him to fill you with his love.
“I love you, Princess. I love you so much.” You gazed into his brown eyes as you sunk on top of him, mouths falling ajar and eyebrows furrowed in the middle. Once you were connected at your groins, your lips crashed against his, drinking each other’s moans while your hips moved against one anothers to a beat that was made for the two of you.

Call Me Lover
Pairings: Xu Shang Chi x fem!Reader; Unspecified Male Avenger x Reader
Summary: Shang Chi is in love with his best friend but she is with someone else. He’s unsure if he’ll be able to keep a handle on his feelings for much longer. Based on Call Me Lover by Sam Fender.
A/N: Tried to be as vague as possible when describing the boyfriend so you can imagine one of your other Avenger faves. Please let me know who you pictured! I get curious about these things lol.
Tumblr media
You know I'll be down here waiting
I'll take you to see your man
A shiver sent its way down your spine as you and your best friend, Shang Chi left the movie theatre. He could see the goosebumps on your arms from the cool evening air and instinctively offered his jacket. You gladly accepted, putting the jacket on over your shoulders and inhaling the gorgeous scent of his cologne. He sighed contentedly at the sight you wearing his clothes and fell even harder for you.
It was a late night trip to see some forgettable movie. Your boyfriend was coming home from a mission that night and time had almost stopped completely as you had waited for him all afternoon. So you called up your best distraction, Shang-Chi with a request that you do absolutely anything to stop you from clock watching.
As soon as your name lit up on his phone, it didn’t matter what you were about to ask. Shang Chi was there. He was completely, hopelessly and desperately in love with you.
“It won’t be long now until he’s back!” You said excitedly, checking your phone.
Shang Chi’s heart had been fluttering all night in your presence but now it seemed to sink to the pit of his stomach with the mere mention of him. The man who had stole you away from him, the man you loved and the man who was a living, breathing reminder that you belonged to someone else.
“Yep.” Shang Chi shortly replied, popping the ‘P’. “Do you want me to drop you off at the compound?”
“Yes please.”
When you are done, we'll go driving
Catch the coast in the evening light
Shang Chi’s chest tightened as you hummed along to a sweet song on the drive there. Your leg bounced up and down excitedly in anticipation. Your boyfriend had been on this mission for two weeks but it had felt like an eternity waiting for him to come back. He would send sporadic updates that you tried your best not to sit around waiting for. Still, every time your phone made a sound, you had desperately grabbed for it in hopes it was him.
You’d passed the time with your best friend, seeing him almost everyday. Shang Chi obliged of course, he would do anything for you. Anything to have you all to himself without any distractions.
It was getting harder and harder for him to act natural around you. A few nights previous he’d driven you along the coastline before stopping to watch the sunset on the beach. Whilst you had fallen in love with the serene pink sky, he was staring at you and feeling his heart beat so hard it was fighting its way out of his chest. Now a pink sky reminded him of you and a moment that he’d reserve in a special place in his heart forever.
“I don’t know why, he’s literally my boyfriend but I’m very… nervous I guess? Just so excited to see him.” You babbled on to Shang Chi who concentrated all of his anguish into gripping the steering wheel with great force.
“I’m sure he’ll have missed you.” Shang Chi offered in response. It was all he could think of to say that would help him stay in character of the role he played of being the supportive friend. He knew if he had to go two weeks without seeing you that he would have been driven insane.
“Yeah well, I really missed him too. The bed is too cold without him.” You smiled at the thought of being engulfed in the arms of your love later while Shang Chi swallowed thickly. He would have been more than happy to keep you warm and safe at night.
Upon arrival at the compound, you realised you were still wearing Shang Chi’s jacket. It was like a continuous warm hug from your best friend, which you relished in due to the unforgiving chill in the air. However, it didn’t seem very appropriate to be wearing another man’s jacket to greet your boyfriend after two weeks apart, so you took it off.
“Here, honey,” you handed Shang Chi’s jacket back to him. “Thanks for letting me wear it, you always look out for me.”
“Always will.” Shang Chi mumbled in response, taking his jacket back. Fresh wounds opened up seeing you take his jacket off for his benefit. It made your best friend feel like you were discarding him in favour of your boyfriend.
When the plane landed and your boyfriend emerged, unscathed and forming a cheesy smile at the sight of you (which Shang Chi could only describe as insufferable) you ran up to him and threw your arms around his neck desperately. You didn’t leave an inch on his face un-kissed and he had wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you as close to him as possible.
“Hey, beautiful.” He chuckled, rubbing your back soothingly with his hand.
“Hey, lover.” You said teasingly in between kisses, an inside joke between you both.
I love it when you call me, "Lover"
Ooh, lover
Hearing you call someone else “lover” was an assault on Shang Chi’s emotional state. It was agonising, like he was trapped in Room 101 and his personal torturer had selected this specifically knowing how much it was going to hurt.
Shang Chi had often slipped into a daydream where he imagined a world where you were his. You’d give him the beautiful doe eyes that you had reserved for your boyfriend. You’d hold on to his arm and kiss his cheek while you walked through the farmers market. The two of you would see old couples and lament on how that’s definitely going to be you when you’re older. Most importantly, you’d call him “lover”.
In his head, you would do all the things for him that he’s seen you do for your boyfriend. When Shang Chi wasn’t there, you’d talk about him to your friends with the same glee and cheesy grin with which you talk about your real lover.
Sometimes when you were together and you’d accidentally brush his arm or you hugged him or called him a cute pet name like “honey” or “sweetie”, it would send him into that utopia in his mind where you were his. A little grin would emerge on his face as he pictured a cute scenario of you both together until you would snap him out of it, laughing at how distracted and dazed he could be. The embarrassment would send sharp pains in his chest and stomach, being almost sure that you could see inside his brain and he had been exposed.
He even dreamed about you when he fell asleep at night and would wake up clutching his pillow so tight his fingers hurt. Then, he’d let out some soft cries into the pillow, wishing it was you he was holding on to instead.
Then he’d think about while he was desperate and crying for you, you were probably in the arms of your boyfriend and sleeping softly, without so much as a thought for Shang Chi.
She gives me those eyes when her man's in plain sight
Or am I just mistaken?
You appreciated the moment of having your boyfriend back in your arms, rubbing your thumb along his cheekbone and giving him gentle kisses as he told you just how much he’d missed you. After a while you took his hand and wandered back over to Shang Chi who stood awkwardly, as if waiting to be dismissed by you.
“Thanks for driving my girl up here, man. It’s a long drive back to the city, you’re more than welcome to stay here for the night.” Your boyfriend smiled at Shang Chi and gave him what was intended to be a friendly pat on the shoulder. Shang Chi frowned at the sight of that man’s hands on him and interpreted the act as being patronising. He was sure that your boyfriend knew just how helplessly in love with you that he was. Being with you was him stabbing Shang Chi in the side. Offering him a place to stay the night where there was a chance he’d hear your reunion sex was the knife being twisted.
But it was you that struck the most painful blow. You looked up at him through your lashes with those gorgeous doe eyes that Shang Chi had thought he’d never be on the receiving end of. You raised your eyebrow in anticipation of his response with a soft and inviting smile. You wanted him to stay.
Shang Chi stared at you in disbelief. You were clinging on to your boyfriend’s arm who you hadn’t stopped talking about all night but were giving him those eyes that he’d dreamed about. He cursed himself for having been so desperate to see them because now he had and he wasn’t allowed to reach forward and kiss you. It was his breaking point.
Enough was enough. He knew he had to start the process of self preservation before his heart broke completely.
“No thanks, I’m gonna head home.” Shang Chi replied grumpily and pushed past your boyfriend. It made you scowl, your best friend was never usually abrupt or rude like that. He was outgoing and gentle and cheerful. It set off alarm bells in your head as you followed him with your eyes.
“Well that was just plain weird.” Your boyfriend smirked. When he looked at your expression he could see just how shocked and stung you were at your best friend’s actions. You couldn’t offer an explanation or even an excuse for him and it bothered you. There was something clearly wrong and you hated the idea of being kept in the dark about it.
“I think I’m gonna go check on him. I won’t be long, baby.” You decided and kissed his cheek. He nodded in response and headed into the compound to relax and wait patiently for you to return and take your rightful place in his arms. You turned on your heel and set off after your best friend.
We will break under circumstance in the heat of it all
Can you take all the pressure that is left behind?
Shang Chi mentally berated himself on the way back to the car for having been so rude. He didn’t want to be and it honestly didn’t sit right with him, even if he did find your boyfriend extremely annoying. He had been kicked into touch and survival mode from all of those years of assassin training had taken over. Instincts were telling him he needed to get as far away from you as possible.
Unfortunately, you weren’t letting him get away so easily.
“Wait up! You’re not going anywhere until you explain what that was back there!” You shouted after him as you desperately tried to keep up with him. He took long and efficient strides forwards, knowing that if he could just get to the car, he could drive away and cry his eyes out in the safety of his own company.
“It’s nothing. Go back and see your man. He’s missed you.” He responded.
You managed to catch up and grabbed his arm, moving him to face you. You observed his agonised expression and the tears forming in his eyes, which worried you even more.
“Not until I know you’re okay.” You asserted. “I know you, remember? And I know that something has upset you. So, spill.”
Shang Chi hated to admit it but you were right. He couldn’t just change his behaviour and expect it to go unnoticed by you. You did know him, probably better than anyone - even more than Katy. It was futile trying to hide this from you anymore. It was time to be honest.
“I can’t do this anymore.” He sighed, looking down to avoid your gaze.
“Do what?”
“This. Me and you. I fucking… I love you okay? I love you. And seeing you with him, it really fucks me up because I wish it was me. I know this makes me such a shitty person because you have a boyfriend but I can’t do this anymore. I love you.”
The admission was a cathartic cocktail of painful yet relieved emotions. Finally, you knew and he didn’t have the burden of carrying around this heavy secret anymore. On the other hand, it risked losing you forever.
The confession of love had stunned you into silence. You desperately tried to achieve eye contact with him in search of a sign that he might be joking. You had no such luck; all you could find in his eyes was torment and hurt. He loved you.
“Sweetie, I don’t know what to say…” You began but were unable to finish. You put your brain to work to formulate a thoughtful response but no inspiration took hold. There was no way to make him feel better about this. You couldn’t make him promises or give him the romance movie moment of throwing caution to the wind and pulling him by his jacket for a deep kiss. You already belonged to someone else.
“It’s okay,” Shang Chi said, breaking the awkward silence. “We can talk about it another time but I need to get outta here.”
With that he kissed your forehead lightly and lingered for a second to savour the moment. Slowly, he leaned back and got into his car and took off. You were left standing there, feeling like you had been suffocated. You inhaled a few greedy gulps of air in an attempt to steady yourself and wondered how you would explain what had just happened to your boyfriend. Your brain was on standby as you stood rooted to your spot, trying to process what had just happened.
In the car, Shang Chi fought back furiously at the tears threatening to spill from his eyes. He tried to stifle the lump that was achingly stuck in his throat with the anxiety that he might have just destroyed your friendship. You were the most important person in his life and he had potentially just thrown all of that away. To put it bluntly: it hurt.
He found himself sink back into that unhealthy tendency of daydreaming about you again to avoid facing the severity of the situation at hand. Suddenly, his mind started to ease and his body relaxed.
He walked into his apartment on a bright Saturday morning. The light streamed in from the window to accentuate your beautiful frame as you lay in his bed waiting for him. Shang Chi set down the coffee and bagels he bought the two of you for breakfast and hovered over you to give you a deep and loving kiss.
“Hey, baby.” He smiled against your mouth before you pulled him down on to the bed with you.
“Hey, lover.”
I love it when you call me, "Lover"
Ooh, lover

Genre: PG-13, Undercover AU
Notes: Being a huge DC fan, I thought incorporating these characters would be great for this story😉 hope my lack of braincells did this fic justice.
Tumblr media
‘Prepare for extraction.’
‘Copy.’ Shang-Chi signals to Marc, jet moving towards the drop-zone as agreed.
He couldn’t wait for this to be over, to finally have you by his side after a whole six months.
You were in deep cover at a meta human facility where runaways were kidnapped and experimented on to active their meta gene.
Retrieving enough evidence, Fury demanded that you were to be pulled out, not wanting one of his best agents to be at risk any further.
‘We don’t who else the League of Shadows are involved with.’ Fury tells you at a secret rendezvous point. ‘I’m sending a team to get you out.’
By team, you didn’t expect Shang-Chi running down the hallway to meet you and the other runaway kids.
‘Y/N!’ He crushes you in a massive hug. ‘I missed you.’
‘Missed you too.’ You couldn’t believe that this day would finally come. ‘We have to leave now. The league has probably been notified by the trigger alarm.’
He nods, leading the group down the same way he came. Only to be stopped by uniformed guards wielding ammunition.
‘Those weapons are alien tech.’ You whisper to Shang-Chi. ‘Ra’s Al Ghul is going to kill all of us if it means his secrets don’t get out.’ You refer to the immortal leader.
Maybe Shang-Chi can take the brunt of its power with his rings. But you couldn’t. And certainly not the kids.
‘I have an idea.’ You tell him. ‘Take the kids and move fast.’ The uneasy feeling in your stomach only grew bigger. You didn’t like it one bit.
Six painful months. You remembered at the end of each day where you crossed out the date on the calendar, awaiting your reunion.
But you saw what the immortal leader of the Shadows could do. If taking out one of his bases was a step in the right direction, you had to do it.
Slowly moving backwards as the tropes advanced in on the group, you find the red button that you were looking for.
Shang-Chi was going to hate you for this.
‘I’m sorry.’ You slammed your fist onto the button, activating the lockdown mode. A flicker of realisation passes by his face, and it is filled with pure terror at the thought of what you had thrown yourself into.
‘What are you doing?’ Shang-Chi denies reality, attempting to pry open the doors. ‘Hey, Y/N. If this is a joke, it’s not funny.’ He tries to reason with you as you watch his futile efforts.
‘Please, open the door and we can figure a way out of this.’ He begs. Perhaps he already knows your decision, as the scratches against the doors have turned into full-blown bangs.
‘Y/N YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO THIS! YOU’RE GOING TO GET YOURSELF KILLED!’
Shang-Chi doesn’t bother to hide his tears, screaming at you through the thick glass, as if it would break at his desperation.
‘Shang-Chi.’ You coaxed him to calm down. ‘I don’t have much time and you need to get out of here soon.’ Placing a hand on the window, Shang-Chi does the same.
‘There’s safe houses in Egypt and the outskirts of Mozambique. Marc and Nakia. They’ll know what to do. Tell Fury about Ra’s Al Ghul… he needs to know. The world must know about his evil deeds.’
As you instruct Shang-Chi on the intel you gathered, you could feel your heart rate slowing down. Like a fish out of water, you could only suck on the air.
The inhumane sounds were enough to make Shang-Chi loose his mind, but he needed to focus on you.
‘And…’ you had to choose your words wisely to conserve energy in your last moments.
‘I… will always… love… you… no matter… where… I am…’
Panting out the last few words, you smiled, not wanting Shang-Chi to see that your last few moments were excruciatingly painful. Your nerves started to shut down, allowing numbness to take over your body.
‘No… No please… don’t do this…’ Shang-Chi was crippled by the memories of his mother. No matter how hard he tries, he can’t seem to get out of the time loop.
‘Go.’ You weakly mouthed. ‘The kids.’ You were about to loose your grip on the timer that would set the radiation bomb off.
Marc runs into the crumbling building, spotting Shang-Chi from a distance. He doesn’t get why the two of you haven’t got out yet until he moves closer.
‘Marc… please we need help.’ Shang-Chi pleads with his team member. ‘We can get her out of here.’
A loyal comrade and a good friend, Marc Spector doesn’t want to leave you either. But he knows what you’re thinking. And he knows you’re right. You nod, as a favour to drag Shang-Chi out if he has to.
So he does. With miraculous strength, Marc pulls him back, not stopping despite the barrage of attacks on him. Marc knows that the rage isn’t directed towards him, but to himself.
The fact that he can’t do anything but just to stand by and watch you die.
Finally getting onto the jet, the aircraft speeds off, getting as far away as it can from the blast radius.
Thirty seconds later, orange flames burst into the skies.
Thirty seconds later, Shang-Chi’s world had ended.
***
The familiar sight greets Shang-Chi as he gets off the car together with his sister. Together, they walk towards their aunt Ying Nan who is solemnly dressed in black.
Ta Lo was more than beautiful. It was a part of Shang-Chi. He had always wanted to bring you here to escape the burdens of an Avenger.
How cruel fate was. Instead of holding your warm hands, he carries the frame of your photo. They couldn’t go back for your body.
The funeral went by in a haze. You were always a reserved person, only enjoying the company of those you truly cherished. It was only befitting to respect your wishes.
He feels a sympathetic pat from his sister and hears words of encouragement from his aunt. Shang-Chi waits until they leave, breaking down into choked sobs.
‘When I’m done with this mission. Promise you’ll take me to see Ta Lo.’
‘Alright, I promise.’ He offers a pinky swear. ‘No Avenger’s stuff. A whole week, you and me.’
‘Sounds like a plan.’
***
A week later, Lazarus Island
‘Haa!!!’ You jerk forward violently, head throbbing.
Your memories were in bits and pieces. The last thing you could remember was doing research at the Mongolia base.
The kids and you running down the hall… a man… and then… orange fireballs the size of a butterfly.
‘Sorry about that. The experience in the pit can make one quite disoriented. Believe me, I tried.’ A low voice rumbles in the darkness, stepping into the view.
You find yourself looking at the whites of a red helmet. The mystery man removes his helmet, the white streak of hair visibly noticeable.
‘My name is Jason Todd, and I need your help with bringing down the League of Shadows.’

Outworld is known to be a place with great wealth, beauty, and knowledge. Its rich history dates back eons. Outworld's capital, Sun Do, is perhaps the most serene place in all the realms. Home to the golden palace that housed Empress Sindel and her daughters, Mileena and Kitana, Sun Do glows with unmatched elegance. One couldn't forget that with Outworld's beauty, comes the pain and suffering of those not fortunate enough to catch the eyes of the Empress herself. Sun Do rests on the backs of citizens who were forced to sculpt every statue, lay every tile, and sew every expensive garment, all while eating scraps and wearing tattered clothes. Shunned by the rich and wealthy, Outworld's poor were scattered along the outskirts of the realm, hidden from outsiders so they wouldn't embarrass the royal family and tarnish the realm's gorgeous reputation.
Outworld’s spring arrives in one such outskirt in unwanted fashion; a thunderstorm cascades upon the timeworn streets of the weathered town, its cobblestones glistening under the heavy rain and tears of the unhoused. Each drop, a melancholic sonnet, whispers secrets of forgotten villagers, only to be drowned out by the rumbling growl of thunder. Here, time dances to the rhythm of the dark weather, a symphony of nature's lament. The town’s insignificant population breathes as a collective – inhabitants all seek refuge from the thunder's booming cadence, retreating into the safety of their homes like ships seeking harbor in the storm. The streets lie deserted, abandoned by the hustle and bustle of daily life. Grumbles come from many homes; angry, the weather forces them to discard the day’s work, further exhausting what little funds they have.
Many houses are dark, the villagers seeing no use in wasting candle wax and firewood – instead using the opportunity to catch up on much needed sleep, or letting the rain drown out blissed out cries shared by lovers. One house stands out, ignoring the rain and choosing to illuminate the immediate area with soft orange light. The fireplace inside roars, but its sound is nothing but a kitten’s meow compared to the lion’s shriek of the thunder. Two hands carefully look over the flames. Tending to a fire involves a delicate dance of care and attention, a ritual as old as time itself. As the flames crackle and flicker, casting their warm glow upon the surroundings, its caretaker approaches with reverence, bearing a long metal rod in hand. With a free hand, he places a small log onto a pile of wood, watching as it immediately darkens. The caretaker leans in close, feeling the heat radiate against his skin. He adjusts the logs, arranging them just so, coaxing the fire to burn brighter, fiercer; asking the heat to warm his face just a bit more. Sparks rise like tiny stars into the air.
“Any closer and your hair will catch fire, Shang Tsung.”
The caretaker – Shang Tsung – turns his head to see his lover, Quan Chi, entering their shared common room; in hand, carrying a teapot and two saucers. He sets them on the floor and sits next to Shang, quickly admiring how the fire’s glow paints over his soft features. Quan Chi expects an eyeroll, a scoff, any negative reaction to his comment, but Shang quietly returns his eyes to the flames, seemingly caught in the fire’s trance.
“Nonsense,” he mutters, just barely shuffling away from the fireplace. “I am not that close.”
Quan Chi lets out an amused huff. He reaches over to Shang and pulls his hair back, gently wrapping it in a ponytail with a shiny black ribbon. Stubborn strands of hair fly away from the ribbon, framing Shang’s face. Quan Chi chooses to ignore them and places a kiss on his lover’s shoulder. “The tea grows cold…”
“Only because you choose to waste your breath on foolish scenarios.” Shang finally pulls away from the fire’s grip, turning his back to the flames and giving his full attention to Quan Chi. He places both hands in his lap and fiddles with the gold band wrapped around his finger. Quan Chi sported a similar band, crafted by him decades prior when he and Shang vowed to spend the rest of their long Edenian lifespans together.
“You are a fool, Shang Tsung, if you consider my concerns to be foolish.” Quan Chi sets teacups in front of himself and Shang and carefully pours an equal amount of black tea in both. “What am I to do if you break your vows to me by carelessly setting yourself aflame?”
“Collect rainwater and douse me,” a quick response – expected from a tongue as sharp as Shang’s.
“You’ll burn to a crisp before a bucket fills halfway. A shame you’ll be the first of us to go.” Quan Chi feigns a sorrowful expression and stares at the ground.
“Quiet down and drink your tea,” Shang hisses in reply, his soft eyes revealing the lack of anger in his words. He picks up his own cup and gently blows the liquid, watching it ripple. Shang’s eye catches a slight rim in the cup. His hand moves the cup to his lips, they slightly spread and allow the tea to fall on his tongue. Indeed, the tea had chilled during their conversation, but it hadn’t cooled enough to make the experience unpleasurable. Its warmth comforted his soul, akin to how the fire warms his skin.
Quan Chi and Shang sit and choose not to speak, instead allowing the booming thunderstorm and roaring fireplace to fill the air. The sounds soothe them both as their bodies wind down, signaling the need for a nap. Their eyes meet, two sets of deep brown irises pooling together and refusing to let go, speaking volumes in the silent language of love. They cradle the delicate porcelain cups and raise them to their lips, taking another sip. Quan Chi’s face suddenly twists into disgust. Shang only raises an eyebrow in curiosity.
“Dull. We are out of honey and without it, my tea is dull.” Quan Chi looks out the window, watching lightning take its anger out on an innocent tree. “I was to make a visit to the markets and purchase another bottle.”
His eyes snap back to his lover when he hears a laugh. “You are not serious.” Another laugh escapes. “Why make tea if you are unable to handle its unadulterated taste? Water, wine…” he trails off. “Yes, we could be enjoying anything else. Why tea?”
Quan Chi slightly shrugs before downing the last of his tea, shivering at the bitter taste. “I was reminded of the day we met.”
Shang tilts his head in confusion and curiosity. “That is sudden.”
"The day our fates intertwined, a century past, within the hallowed halls of the Sun Do teahouse; it rained then, too. Both of us found sanctuary within those ancient walls." Quan Chi’s eyes bore into Shang’s skull, his intense eye contact making his spouse glance away. “My soul was yours the moment you looked in my eyes.”
Shang is silent. The sudden confession brings in a wave of emotions that try to break down his spirit like water rushing a dam. His body aches as his chest tightens and love gnaws at every fiber of his being. Their first meeting was a memory locked deep in his mind, the thought now making him unconsciously play with his wedding ring. “And I will never let it go.”
Quan Chi opens his arms and Shang accepts the invitation, quickly crashing into his beloved. Their hearts soar; beating fast, but beating as one. The fireplace, angry at being forgotten, dies out. The fading glow is replaced with eyes that could only shine when looking at a lover. They lean in, taking each other in a soft, quick kiss. Shang presses a kiss to Quan Chi’s jaw before hiding his face in his lover’s neck. Quan Chi notices the dead fire and hums.
“I suppose this is our cue to clean our mess.”
“Your mess,” Shang yawns, “I was not the one responsible for brewing sentimental tea.”
Quan Chi rolls his eyes before separating himself from Shang, grabbing the teapot and cups before standing. “Go and rest, I will join momentarily.”
Shang only nods in response, slowly lifting his body off the ground and dragging himself to the bedroom. It wasn’t much; a mattress that showed signs of aging, a small dresser that held their clothes, a desk with books Shang’s read three times over, and a pile of dirty laundry that Quan Chi swears he’ll get to soon. Shang collects enough strength to light a candle next to his bed before collapsing into the sheets. He stares at the candle, its fire almost growing taller than the wax itself. He makes a mental note to buy another candle as soon as possible. Shang sees Quan Chi enter their bedroom from the corner of his eye. He yawns, not bothering to look at his husband.
“We will need another very soon.”
Quan Chi could almost laugh. “One fire goes out, so you immediately light another.”
“They please me.”
“Why?”
A shrug; Quan Chi can’t figure out if Shang doesn’t know the answer or if he simply doesn’t feel like giving one. Quan Chi walks over to the bed and lays next to Shang, sighing as he feels his body relax. The two are silent, choosing to listen to the sound of thunder rumbling. Rain beats down on the window like bullets, and yet its sound is able to lull Quan Chi to a half-asleep state. Through heavy eyes he stares at Shang, whose back faces him. He sighs knowing he won’t be able to drag his lover’s eyes away from the burning candle. Quan Chi inches forward just enough to wrap an arm around Shang’s waist. It wasn’t often the two cuddled before bed, Shang complains about Quan Chi being too warm to hold, and Quan Chi complains about Shang moving too much.
As expected, Shang squirms a bit at the sudden contact. “We will both overheat like this.”
Quan Chi slightly lifts his head and blows enough air to kill the candle’s flame. “There,” he closes his eyes and pulls Shang closer to his chest. “The threat of overheating is gone.”
“You know very well that is not what I-”
“Hush. Sleep. Maybe the gods will fill your dreams with arson.”
Shang almost rolls his eyes out of his skull – but is quick to comply. Dreams of sitting by a fireplace doesn’t sound bad.
In the quiet aftermath of the angry thunderstorm, the clear morning comes in peacefully. Outworld’s citizens were slow to resume their usual activities, not wanting to deal with puddles and muddy grounds. Animals dance and celebrate the return of the sun. They sing songs of freedom as they search for their first meal of the day. Through a small window, the sun is able to light the bedroom with a golden hue. The light gently caresses Quan Chi’s face, encouraging him to wake up. He is slow to open his eyes, wishing the darkness the thunderstorm brought would return. His hand reaches up to rub his eyes, shaking the bleariness out. When they refocus on the environment, he realizes the bed is empty. Shang Tsung nowhere to be seen.
Quan Chi groans and lifts the blanket, wincing when the warmth leaves his body. Heavy feet haul his body out the bedroom and in search of his spouse. His first thought is the kitchen, thinking that Shang would most likely be eating breakfast, but finds the room empty upon entering. He sighs and leaves to search somewhere else. Quan Chi walks from room to room – no Shang. He almost panics but stops when he hears a faint voice outside. He walks closer to the entrance, hearing the voice get louder. His hand opens the door to see Shang swaying his body to the beat of an imaginary drum.
Quan Chi can’t place the song that blesses his ears. It was soft and sweet; a pleasant morning gift. He racks his brain to see if he could remember its tune, but each new lyric cements its unfamiliarity. With a breath of joy, Shang sings of spring’s arrival with the chirping birds; his tenor and their soprano blending to create a beautiful harmony. Every note flies and weaves through the air like a gentle breeze. Quan Chi smiles and stays put, it wasn’t often that he got to hear his lover sing.
“Your voice is beautiful,” Quan Chi cuts in as soon as he hears the song fading. He shoots an unapologetic smile when Shang jumps in surprise. Shang saunters over to him and is immediately wrapped in a strong embrace. “Why are you outside so early?”
Shang shakes his left arm, bringing attention to the small bag he had in hand. “I woke up with a troubled mind; I went to the market to soothe my anguish.”
Quan Chi looks at Shang with concern. “Why didn’t you wake me if you were struggling?”
“There was no need,” Shang reaches into the bag to pull out a small item wrapped in protective paper. “Open it.”
Quan Chi takes the item and slowly unwraps it, making sure to be gentle. The paper tears to reveal a porcelain teacup, adorned with gold embellishments. He looks at Shang with a confused expression – only getting an impassive look in return. “Your mind was troubled…and a teacup set you at ease?”
“Last night my cup was chipped. If I didn’t replace it, I would’ve lost my mind.” Shang takes the teacup from Quan Chi and cradles it in his hands, as if he was testing it out. His slender fingers compliment the porcelain well. “I felt broken. This,” he raises the cup so Quan Chi can get a better look at its details, “makes me feel whole again.”
“You are the strangest person in all the realms, Shang Tsung.”
“And that is why you made me yours, Quan Chi,” Shang smirks, walking past Quan Chi and making his way to the door. He hesitates as he goes to open the door. His head turns to his lover, his face hardening.
“Tell me, Quan Chi,” he pauses, thinking how to phrase what he wants to say. “If someday I no longer had this beautiful voice, would you still, even then, love me?”
Quan Chi raises an eyebrow. He, once again, searches Shang’s face for an explanation, an emotion behind his question. When was Shang ever insecure in Quan Chi’s love for him? Did he not show it enough? He walks up to Shang, hand stroking his cheek. He places a kiss on Shang’s temple.
“Of course.” another kiss.
Shang smiles, the positive reply and kiss pleasing him. He finally opens the door and grabs Quan Chi’s hand. “Come,” he says, leading his lover inside, “I will sing for you whilst we make breakfast.”
Quan Chi quickly nods. “I would like that.”

Tangerine, can I request angst?
One wherein the reader is Shang Taung's minion who was sent to Liu Kang's timeline to disrupt their peace but fell for the Fire God instead because he helped her find herself. Like originally, the reader was like Harley Quinn towards Shang Tsung but Liu Kang helped her heal. Angst ensues when her origins were revealed and she was defeated by Titan Shang Tsung and was taken back to her original timeline where she was killed by that timeline's Liu Kang.
Sorry if it's too long, and it's alright if you don't want to write it!<33
you're not him
a/n: ahhhh, yes, let me flex my angst writing muscles real quick, haven't done this in a while, changed some stuff around but it still fits the basic permise
pairing: liu kang x gn!reader
warnings: canon typical violence
Tumblr media
this wasn’t right, none of this was right
he was kind, nice, warm, everything Shang Tsung wasn’t, and you felt yourself drawn to the god despite your orders
you really had tried your best to create chaos, to find this timeline’s Shang Tsung and Quan Chi and harness their ambition and sorcery to create death
but then, you had gone and found them and saw that they were already taken in by Liu Kang, to be reformed and taught to harness their powers for good
you had tried to infiltrate Empress Sindel’s court, to whisper thirsts for power to General Shao and Reiko nand cause an uprising to kill Outworld’s champions
but the suggestions seemed to fly right over their heads, and they remained fiercely loyal to Empress Sindel
you didn’t even try with Mileena, and when you had gone in search of anyone that could and should have wanted to usurp the throne for themselves, you found nothing but peace and tranquility and happiness
every problem that they might’ve had were already solved or mitigated, and your mission was on the trajectory to fail
you could not fail Shang Tsung, he would kill you if you came back fruitless and without disrupting the peace of Lord Liu Kang’s timeline
and so, you went straight to Liu Kang, to go straight to the source of all this peace and kill it at its source, except that he had already been expecting you
he had seen you through the sands of time, granules not meant to be in this hourglass, and he sat you down and drank tea with you
not an ounce of stress or worry marred his features as you picked at your fingers in nervousness, had he poisoned the tea? was he planning on killing you? was he going to send you back to Shang Tsung with no results?
he didn’t do any of those options, instead he talked about idle things, about how he solved his realm’s problems before they got out of control and how he knows you’re here to disrupt his timeline
and yet, even after that conversation, he offers you reprieve, to train underneath him and get away from Shang Tsung from your timeline
you hesitate for a moment, confused by the warmth he extended to you, but you take his hand after a moment
one of his monks escort you to a personal room, gives you clean training uniforms that fit you, and leaves you alone to gather your thoughts
you want to kill him, you need to kill him, to please Shang Tsung, because Shang Tsung would slit your throat, would kill you, would torture you, would spare no mean to make sure you suffer
then you thumb the soft material in your hands, the clean training uniform, a personal room, an adjacent bathroom just for yourself
Liu Kang had managed to bring peace to all of the realms here, and he must be a powerful god to do so, perhaps the god would be able to protect you from the wrath of Shang Tsung
and so, you train at the Fire Temple with the other monks, you meet his champions and become friends with them, you grow closer with Liu Kang as he talks to you over tea
he doesn’t poke or prod, just listens and hums, filling in the empty silence with his own words to keep the conversation going
day by day, you relax, you stop checking every corner for danger, you stop guarding your food like it’s your last and only meal, your stop pushing and straining your body until you collapse during training sessions
you feel your spirits lift, your body feels lighter, the world seems brighter and warmer and better
you sit next to Liu Kang, talking to him about a flower you saw yesterday, how beautiful it was and how it bloomed in the sun
it was something you had never really seen, no Shang Tsung’s realm was just full of death and anger and husks, nothing alive was there, nothing beautiful existed
he asks you more about the realm you’re from, how different everything is, if the counterparts of his champions live with Shang Tsung
you clear your throat, fingers gripping onto the teacup as you think and dredge up the memories
you tell him about Shang Tsung’s champions, about how Lord Raiden and Fujin still exist but do the bidding of Shang Tsung to clear and conquer the realms
you tell him about how screams constantly fill the air, how blood stains the ground and leaves the permanent sickly smell of iron in the air
you tell him how Liu Kang also exists in Shang Tsung’s universe, how he is much crueler, angrier, fast to fuse and killed without remorse
Shang Tsung’s Liu Kang was the perfect lap dog and weapon against any unruly civilians or protests or civil wars in the realms
he was Shang Tsung’s best fighter, and if Liu Kang wanted to, he could snap your neck easily, break you in half and not even bat an eyelash
you flinch as you feel Liu Kang place a hand on your thigh, drawing you out of the memories, and he smiles at you, a little concerned
he tells you you do not have to worry about that, that he will keep you safe from Shang Tsung, that you do not deserve to wilt in such an environment
it makes your heart warm as you blush and tilt your head away to hide your face and sip on your tea
after that day, the relationship between you and Liu Kang shifts
he’s much closer to you, much more handsy and touchy, and he always finds time to bring you bouquets of flowers from his personal gardens
you find yourself leaning into his touch, seeking him every time you walk into a room, reaching out to brush your fingers against his when you two stand close to each other
you lay in a field, an off day to relax from training, and you read a book, something that you hadn’t learned how to do until you came to this realm
it was fascinating, the characters, the words, and it was quite entertaining
you don’t even have to look up to know Liu Kang approaches you, and he sits next to you and glances at what you’re reading
he passes you a cup of tea silently and lets you read in a comfortable silence as he skims the pages while you go over the sentences
finally, you reach the end of your chapter and set the book down to look at Liu Kang, and you hadn’t realized how close his face was to yours
you flush but don’t move away, and he doesn’t either
instead, he leans in a little closer to you, bringing his hand up to tuck a piece of hair behind your ear, and you bring your hand up to cup his and bring it to your cheek
he holds onto your face gently, carefully, as if you would break
you tilt your head back, and he leans his head down, lips only a breath apart, so close to touching you, kissing you
the alarm bells ring in the courtyard, and the both of you jolt from your hazy daydream and back into reality as you stand up and rush to the main courtyard
you find Shang Tsung standing in front of a dark portal, clutching onto the neck of a monk and draining them of their power before dropping them to the ground as a husk
the titan spots you and gives a wide smile, but you can feel and hear the malice in his voice, how he’s going to make you regret for you decision to turn against him
you ready your stance, ready to fight him, but Liu Kang pushes you behind him, shielding you away from Shang Tsung’s maniacal glare
he laughs at how protective Liu Kang has grown of you before he starts to insult you, calling you a dirty traitor, a good for nothing harlot, how you’re useless and a pathetic excuse of a warrior
Liu Kang scowls at the words and his fists light into flame, and Shang Tsung smiles and continues his insults
you see him ready his claws, his powers glowing in his hands, and you know that this not an encounter Liu Kang will survive if you don’t intervene
as Liu Kang lunges forward, you grab onto his clothes and pull him back, using your body weight and momentum to throw him to the floor and yourself forward into Shang Tsung’s body
you push him through the portal, and the titan grabs onto you tightly, bringing you through the portal with him
you catch a glance backward, and you see Liu Kang reaching out for you, his words forming a sound of anguish
and then the portal blinks away and you’re back in your own dimension
Shang Tsung throws you onto your back, causing your breath to disappear into the air, and he stabs his claws through your stomach, and blood spurts from your mouth
but you grit your teeth and bear through the pain as he slashes and claws and beats you within an inch of your life
your blood paints the ground in a twisted canvas, but Shang Tsung stops just a few seconds before dealing the landing blow
he calls over Liu Kang, and you see him come over to you, eyes no longer warm, hands cold and painful, and words sharp and jagged as he beats you to death
he smiles at you wickedly as he deals the final blow, and you hope that your Liu Kang has found a way to protect the peace of his realm as your last thought

Hey Hii I love your writings!
Could you write something about Druig and the fem avenger (maybe black widow) reader? If you don't write Druig, it could be Shang-Chi. I love both of these guys so much! Thanks in advance~
A/N - THIS IS GREAT! Sorry for not writing this soon, but I do hope you like it, Anon!
Breathe
Summary - After the Emergence, Druig get a call from an old flame
Tumblr media
Warnings - Just some fluff with a HINT of angst
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
The phone rang at least three times before Druig could answer it, fishing out the phone from the bottom of his duffle bag he packed from his village in the Amazon.
“ ‘Ello?” He asked, Instantly he was going to be bombarded by questions on the other end of the line.
“Druig?!  What in the hell?!  Why is there a Celestial coming out of the Indian Ocean?”
“Sweetheart, can you take a breath for me?”
“How can I take a breath when there’s a massive Celestial statute sticking out of the Indian Ocean!  That has you name written all over it!”’
“Hey—“
“DO NOT HEY ME!  THIS HAD YOUR NAME WRITTEN ALL OVER IT AND YOU KNOW IT—“
“Stop!  Stop and take a breath for me please,”  Druig finally Said into the phone, looking up from his spot in the kitchen to see the rest of the Eternals outside the farmhouse and at the horse corral, talking together and laughing at something Phastos said.  Druig could see the inventor look over at Druig through the kitchen window, raising an eyebrow at him as if he was silently asking who he was talking to on the phone.
Druig shook his head and walked back to the living room, plopping down on the couch to rub his face as he heard you on the other line.  You were taking a few long breaths, trying to calm yourself down as Druig was patiently waiting on the couch.  Finally, after what seemed like a good minute or two of you breathing and calming yourself down for Druig to hear, Druig finally spoke.
“Druig, that Celestial is on every news channel all over the globe, and my boss is looking for answers,” You explained to him on your end of the phone, “You need to explain some things to me, as much as you can,”
“Your Boss, as in the Winter Soldier?”
“More as in the new Captain America,” You replied, “Sam is not keen in not knowing what is going on around the globe, especially if it’s extraterrastial related.
“I’m sure you can whip something up from your Black Widows days, bein’ an ex-spy at all,” Druig said in almost a tease, you inhale sharply.
“Druig, this is not funny. I’m worried that something else is stirring up and you have something to do with it,” You explained wholeheartedly.
“I know, luv,” Druig replied, “I don’t mean to make it light.  But it was a near Emergence that we had to stop before the end of the world,”
A pause was heard on your end.
“Emergence?” You asked him.  Druig sighed heavily.
“It’s a lot to explain,” He started to explain to you, but the house suddenly started to vibrate.  Druig had to paise, feeling the walls and floor shake beneath his feet as he slowly stood up.  It might have felt like an earthquake, not as big as the one he felt a week prior when Tiamut became active under the earth’s surface.  After hearing some of the horses from the corral neighing in agitation, the soft sounds of what sounded like a jet high in the sky were coming towards the farmhouse.
But this didn’t sound like a typical jet.
Phastos and the others came running into the farmhouse, Druig shot up from the couch and looked over at him as Phastos was pointing towards the front of the house, “You hear that?”
What is it? Makkari signed as the rounds of the jet were coming closer and closer within seconds.  Druig was just as confused at first.  Yet it only took him a few longs to recognize the sounds of the jet, he’d heard it all too well many times before.  His own heart both dropped and seated faster at the same.
“Honey….please don’t tell me I’m hearing your jets out here in South Dakota,” Druig said slowly in the phone to you as the Jet was now sounding beyond loud, almost right above the farmhouse as Phastos shot him a look.
“Honey?!  Who in the hell is Honey?” He asked as Druig walked out through the front doors hastily, the others hot on his heels.  Right in front of the farmhouse, a Jet was lowering down onto the grass.  It looked sick, black in color, and almost decked out with plenty of firepower to boot.  To anyone else, it would seem threatening and intimidating since there was no way of knowing where the jet came from and who was flying it.
But to Druig, he knew exactly who it was.
“Is that an Avenger’s Jet?!” Phastos son Jack yelled out in excitement as the jet finally touched down on the ground, the wind dying down and the jet turning off slowly.
“Jack, get in the house!” Phastos huffed at his son as the ramp was lowering slowly.  Druig was watching the ramp with steady eyes, turning off the call on the phone as he saw boots descending down the ramp at a rapid pace.
Light brown hair in a high ponytail, braids embedded in the locks as bright green eyes were drilling into Druig's blue orbs.
You, in your ex-widow outfit, walking straight to Druig with no signs of slowing down.
"Who in the hell?" Phastos asked as Thena stood in a protective and threatened stance, Makkari looking in confusion. But you were not focusing on them, only on Druig who was giving you a sincere look and a small smile.
Once you were nose to nose, Druig's smile briefly widened.
"Hello Sweetheart," he hummed to you, though you were simply giving him a hard stare
Within a second, you punched him hard.
The others gasped as Druign grunted and took the blow, ducking a bit as you glared at him with clenched fists. Makkari was about to run over at you when Thena grabbed her arm to stop her. Druig reluctantly held out a hand to the others at the porch as he grasped his nose.
"It's fine...I'm fine," He called out, inhaling sharply as he looked back at you with a sigh, "I deserved that one, didn't I?"
"That is for keeping me in the dark with this Celestial, and for not calling me back in a whole month! I was this close to flying out to see if you were still alive in the Amazon!" You huffed at him as he grasped part of his nose. He squinted in pain.
You rolled your eyes, reaching over to move his fingers to the right spot on his nose.
"Don't worry, I didn't break it. It'll bruise and that's it," You mumbled, Druig grinning as you through the same pain he was feeling along his nose, "Druig, you scared me, and I know deep down this Celestial has something to do with you,"
"It does, luv," He replied as he then gestured to the group that was watching from the porch, "These are the other Eternals,"
You looked over, seeing the three of them watching with a hint of amusement on their faces from your punching the mind controller in the nose. Your eyes went wide, Phastos awkwardly waving while both Thena and Makkair just grinned and nodded in your direction.
"Your family?" You asked Druig as you looked back at him.
"Some of them. We lost some along the way, but we're all that left with two others," Druig explained as he took your hand in his, "We stopped the Emergence and saved the world,"
"Oh...okay," You sighed and rang your fingers over your face, "This is a lot to take in,"
"I'll say," Phastos muttered under his breath as Thena walked over a little bit with her intense eyes on you.
"You know Druig?" She questioned you, you were about to say something when Druig reached over to lace your fingers together, palm to palm. Your fingerless gloves against his own calloused hand were a natural feel for you two to have, and you've had this sensation for some time as the others finally realized what was going on.
"You're dating.....and Avenger?" Phastos asked Druig, Makkari grinning from ear to ear and almost bouncing on her toes.
I have questions! She signed rapidly as you felt a tint of blush on your cheeks.
"Technically she's an ex-Black Widow who was recruited to the Avengers," Druig explained, Makkari was now running over in a blistering pace as she was beaming so bright at you from the news of your title. You were taken back slightly, but the smile on her face was warm.
Black widows are the stuff of legend! Please tell me all you know! She signed to you so quickly her fingers were literally dancing in front of your face. You were smiled and signed "Yes," Makkari giggled and looking at Druig.
I like her! She said to Druig as he finally fully smiled.
"Yeah, I like her too, Kari,"
The End

All the ways we sabotaged it. [Shang-Chi x reader]
Inspired by skinny dipping by Sabrina Carpenter. Ever since I've heard the song, I couldn't get this fic out of my mind. So why not write it?
Warning: Angst, angst, so much of it. Shang-Chi hiding things. Lots of misunderstandings, break-up. Happens six months after the events of Shang-Chi.
Summary: Six months after the break-up, you and Shang-Chi cross paths in a café downtown.
Tumblr media
It had been six months. Six long, hard, agonizing months since you and your ex, Shaun, broke up. It has been a long process but with the help of your family and friends, it seems less hard than if you had to do all of it alone. You just started to move on. Yes you still loved him; but in retrospect, you and him wouldn't have lasted. There were too many things happening at the time and honestly, neither of you were mature enough for a relationship.
It had been a Wednesday when you had decided to go out. Just spend your day with your own company. It had been a while since you'd been to this café specifically because of some guy. You really missed their lattes. Once you placed your order, you had searched for a seat and then sat down. Appreciating the calmness of the place. You would start writing on your computer, letting your fingers dance on the keyboard. The place has given you writing ideas that you were more than excited to write about.
ϟ
Everything was going perfectly until a familiar voice had stopped you in your frenzy. A voice you hadn't heard for so long. At first you thought you had misheard. Maybe it was someone that sounded like him. It couldn't be him right?
So the logical thing to do was to go back to what you were doing in the first place. It was just your imagination playing tricks on you. He couldn't be here. You'd heard from a mutual close friend that he had to fly back home. Where was "home"? You hadn't known, he'd never told you about his home country. "Family business. I swear!" She had told you.
However, when you looked up, you're surprised to see the same face attached to that voice. The same smile, and the same hair. All in all, the guy that had taken your heart six months ago. He was there right in front of you. And it seemed like he wanted to talk to you.
"Hi." He almost whispered when he had arrived in front of your table. In an instant you couldn't think of a proper salutation, so you opted for a simple "Hi. How are you?" And soon, a conversation bloomed. You two would catch up to whatever had happened since the separation. It was nice, talking like no time had passed; no separation happened. To be honest, you kinda missed those sort of days. When words would just fill out of your mouth, and you being unable to stop them.
And very soon, minutes would change into hours. Niether of you would notice. In those hours, Shaun had told you that he was actually grateful you had broken up with him. At first it stung a little; but then he told you the reason why. It had opened his eyes; he was reckless, had lied to you so many times, and hid so many things. His words. In retrospect he couldn't understand how you had put up with it. The gall of the man. He even had lied to you about his name!
Your response to it should've been to be angry with him. To yell at him about lying about his name. Understandably you were upset, you two shared a life together, though short lived, you felt he should have felt safe enough to tell you about it. After everything that had gone down after your departure, was explained to you, you understood. You would've probably done the same in his shoes. I mean, did it sound crazy? Yes. Did you wonder how that concerned you in any way? Heck yes. Were you still worried about the guy? Yes.
So in the end, you still listened to his crazy-not-so-crazy story. In the end, you still had a little bit of concern and empathy for this guy.
You decided to go home when the sky changed hues. You had spent a good day in his company in this café. But now it was time to go home. As soon as you two parted ways, you questioned yourself on why you two didn't work.
Yes, he had lied and hid things. But at the end of the day, your delusional mind thought that it could've been salvaged somehow. It rattled on past opportunities of reconciliation and the multiple ways you would have been more than happy to be supportive of him and journey. However, you ultimately came to the conclusion that if it hadn't worked, it probably wasn't meant to be.
Really, that day had just been a reafirmation that you two had had a good run, but like all good things it was time to let go and move on. you were more than ready.

Dallas Liu is PERFECT as Zuko
I have lots of not-so-good things to say about the new show. BUT! They've cast it superbly well, and Dallas is a major highlight. He is adding details to the character that previously had only been given seen in throwaway lines, and his acting is phenomenal.
After Shang-Chi, I wasn't worried. I'm pleased to say that I was right not to be! He's nailed the teenage angst, and the loss of innocence Zuko is struggling with in season 1. Simultaneously, we're seeing another in-depth side of Zuko, one that is more in touch with his allegiances and why he feels he must cling to them after losing everything.
Zuko is a bit of an elitist brat! The indoctrination of Fire Nation propaganda is evident in his performance. Dallas is creating a stronger foundation for the impact of Zuko's redemption , while having this very purposeful-yet-awkward love of Iroh that will surely make me cry later.
Thank you Dallas, for bringing all the emo to the table. It's fire (ha!)

Tumblr media
Pairing: Xu Shangqi x f. reader
Genre: angst + fluff
Warnings: sadness, crying, Shangqi being the bf we all deserve

Word Count: 615
Notes: Tbh I am in a pretty low state rn and I haven't been in the mood to do much, but I remembered that I wrote these headcanons a while back when I was sad over starting my last semester. Rereading them brightened up my spirits a little bit so I hope they bring you some comfort too! Remember to reblog and comment if you enjoyed what you read 😊

Shangqi would give you your space if you wanted to lie in bed, but, of course, being the protective boyfriend he is, he would check on you every hour. While he checked on you, he would give you kisses on your cheeks and forehead and refill your water when he would find it empty.
He called off the day he was supposed to go to work just to shop for your favorite snacks and the ingredients to your favorite meal from childhood. You had no idea he ditched work to go shopping for you so you spent most of the day sleeping and playing a random TV show to fill the silence of the room.
When Shangqi got back, he found you fast asleep with your phone in your hand. He replaced your phone with a box of Hello Panda before he got to work on dinner. Shangqi wasn’t the best cook. Shit he could barely make a grilled cheese, but he was determined to get this meal right just for you. Even if it meant face timing one of your family members just so someone can validate that he was cooking correctly.
An hour later, you woke up and felt the cardboard box instead of your phone in your hand. Blinking your eyes, you saw the Hello Panda design and a faint smile finally appeared on your face. Suddenly, the familiar smell of your favorite food in the whole world filled your nose.
Curiously, you got out of bed and stretched your body for what felt like five minutes. Once you walked out into the kitchen, you gasped when you found Shangqi filling two bowls of your favorite food. He looked up, sensing the sound of your gasp, and gave you a soft smile.
“Is that-” you began but Shangqi nodded happily.
“Yeah, I really hope I do it justice. I had to call one of your relatives just to make sure I wouldn’t mess up.” He let out a short laugh, placing both bowls on the table that had a bouquet of flowers in the middle. You were at a loss for words when Shangqi pulled out your chair, allowing you to sit down. He, then, moved his seat so then you were both facing each other.
“I can’t imagine what you are going through right now. It hurts me to see you like this.” Shangqi inhaled deeply to fight back tears. You felt the tears form in your eyes, too, but you let him finish speaking. “Don’t ever forget that I’m always here for you, my little gem. I love you so much. I’m never gonna give up on you…or us, okay?”
The tears started flooding from your eyes as silent sobs fell from your lips. Shangqi pulled you into his embrace and rubbed your back as you cried into his chest.
He’d whisper, “I know, my little gem, I hear you. It’s okay to cry.” A few tears would fall on the top of your head as he would kiss it in between his words. Once you were all cried out, you both basked in the silence.
“I love you, Shangqi! I don’t know how I got so lucky to be your girlfriend.” You finally choked out. Shangqi chuckled, tucking your matted hair out of your face.
“I should be asking how I got so lucky with you. You’re the best thing to ever happen to me!” You smiled at him before kissing him tenderly. After kissing him, you sat back down in your chair, scooting it next to Shangqi so you can lead your head on his shoulder while you ate your dinner that he, surprisingly, did not fuck up.

You May Just Live To Regret It

"I guess the ayes have it, outvoting Kenshi here. Motion carries!"
It should have been him.
"Lead the way, Ashrah."
It should have been him.
That’s what keeps echoing in Kenshi’s head, as he guides the hand on his shoulder through the Living Forest.
"Lagging behind, Takahashi? We gotta keep going."
He was scared to look back, like Orpheus, afraid that if he did, the person following him would be lost forever. Kenshi stepped up his pace following their new friend from the Netherrealm, Ashrah, in the hopes of finding Shang Tsung’s partner in crime.
"There you go. Don’t worry about me, Kendoll. I know it’s hard to stop thinking about me but we gotta find this Quan-Chi first."
It happened so fast, yet Kenshi knew he could have been faster, smarter, he could have fought off Mileena’s hold on his shoulders in her feral state, he could have shouted at Johnny earlier to duck but all he did was watch as Cage ripped the princess from him and she-
"God, this reminds me of Wicked Planet," Johnny mused, listening to the sounds of the forest around him.
Johnny will never be able to see a movie again.
The spine-chilling scream of agony echoes in his ears, drowning out his cry for Johnny, as Mileena’s sais stabbed into the star’s skull-
"We had this forest in the second act-"
Kenshi turned his head by instinct to ask, "The manticore battle?"
It was a mistake.
"Yes!"
The sight choked him with guilt painfully in his chest, Johnny’s smile marred by the red blindfold covering his gouged out eye sockets. The same salve treated cloth he wrapped as gently as possible around the man’s head, the barest he could do to relieve the immeasurable pain he had caused.
You saved me, and it cost you everything.
How can I ever forget that?
"It was a pain to shoot, but man did it come out epic."
Because of him, Johnny’s career, his entire livelihood, is over.
He can see how Johnny’s mood had improved since they escaped Shang Tsung’s laboratory, how Kenshi had angrily talked the martial arts actor out from leaving him there, dragging him out, because he had to live, he had to-
Takahashi smiled despite how horrible it felt to do so.
"I can picture it exactly."
And yet the smile was worth it to see Johnny brighten at his words, to feel then the assuring squeeze on his shoulder, silently communicating to him.
I’m not dead Takahashi. I’ll work my way round this, even if it takes years to do it.
If there was anyone who would change Hollywood to adjust to him, it was Johnny. He doesn’t know how, but…
Kenshi swears to help him every step away, to try and start repaying the star for saving his life.
╬╬═════════════╬╬
"Woah there, Samurai Jack. I gotta stop you right there."
Kenshi felt Johnny’s hand on his chest, stopping him from following Ashrah and the others from stopping Quan-Chi’s soul stealer machinations.
"Johnny, you heard her! Millions could die. And I can’t-"
I can’t stand by again and do nothing to stop it from happening.
"I know, Takahashi, I can’t fight with you guys. I’m blind now, not stupid."
That made Kenshi flinch, and the reaction distracted him enough for Johnny to unclip the sword from behind his back. The swordsman turned to face him and-
“Which is why we don’t want you tripping us up out there for the both of us.”
In Johnny’s hand was Sento, waiting to be taken.
Kenshi’s heart stopped.
Johnny pushed his ancestral sword, what he swore to reclaim, into his tattooed hands, grip tainted with the remains of the actor’s blood.
"What?!"
The man gave him his signature smile as he clipped the old sword to his back.
He didn’t deserve Sento anymore, if he ever did, why was he giving it to him, after he lost his sight because of him, leaving him vulnerable and unable to-
"I can’t. Not when you’re-"
It’s his fault, it’s all his fault-
It should have been him, not Johnny-
Johnny grabbed his wrist firmly, the star’s gaze piercing into him, even when blindfolded now.
"I saved your life. And when you save those people, your dept to me is repayed."
"Johnny, it-it's not that simple! I-"
"It is that simple."
Kenshi’s hands trembled slightly, Johnny’s hand coming to rest on his shoulder.
"It’s yours."
The Taira clan’s legacy, returned after centuries apart…
Kenshi raised the sheathed katana, feeling as though an invisible bond was reignited within him.
Then before he could utter another a word, say anything back to Johnny, thank him or protest he didn’t deserve it in his dishonor, Quan-Chi’s spell disrupted them, as the necromancer created a monstrous soul amalgamation they needed to stop now.
Kenshi Takahashi…
In your time of need, the Taira will not fail you.
:۞:••:۞:••:۞:••:۞:••:۞:
"Well... Clearly, I underpaid for that. Did you know it could do that?"
"The legends never mentioned mystical powers. The souls of my ancestors live within it... They intend to guide me."
"Just don’t forget who gave it to you, Takahashi."
"I swear on my life, Cage. I won’t."
❛ ━━━━━━・❪ ❁ ❫ ・━━━━━━ ❜
They were close to the portal, every battle they’d fought was won and all they had to do now was run as fast as they can from Sun Do’s forces. Quan-Chi may have escaped but what mattered more was their own withdrawal, back to Earthrealm, back to Liu Kang.
Johnny had given him Sento, with all that they went through together, and Kenshi could see it exactly, what he would do with the Taira’s ancestral sword guiding his clan out of the yakuza, freeing them, and being by Johnny’s side as they rebuilt their lives together-
"Run, Kenshi!"
Syzoth, Kung Lao and Ashrah made it past the glowing mist of the portal gate, disappearing to the other side and no doubt Kenshi knows when Liu Kang learns from them all that this mission, that yielded neither Shang Tsung nor Quan-Chi, cost the eyesight of one of his champions-
"Get them!"
"Johnny, we’re almost there!"
He refused to look back, he was sure they would make it, he was a hand outstretched away, the other holding Johnny’s-
Krakk!
Kenshi abruptly stopped dead in his tracks.
His hearing was deafened by the sharp sound of breaking bone.
He had to look back-
Slowly, agonizingly, his stomach dropped in what must have been a second to take in the sight-
Johnny raised his hand to grasp Reiko’s spear pierced through his chest, blood spilling out in a gasp. The blindfolded star took a step back from the strike, staggering.
No, no-
Outworld’s forces were closing the distance and Kenshi couldn’t move, he can’t, he has to-
Johnny, through the excruciating pain, smiled at him.
"See ya, Kenshi. Don’t forget to live, okay?"
Then before he could stop him, Johnny kicked him in the chest, sending Kenshi through the portal to Earthrealm and on the floor-
"Johnny, NO!"
And the last thing he saw before Liu Kang’s fire brought him back, was Johnny turning to face General Shao and his soldiers charging at him, the superstar smirking as he took his last stand.
─────────ೋღ 🥀 ღೋ─────────
After he had yelled his entire heart out, he began sobbing and weeping at the pain of losing a friend.
The weather must have known what he was feeling right now in this very moment. Because when he screamed his lungs and vocal cords out, thunder had struck next to him.
Another one of his loved ones..
Dead.
Just like Suchin.
Just like his mother.
Just like his father.
The gods must be punishing him for his sins as an assassin and working as a member of the yakuza.
"Kuso… Zenbu watashi no seida… Warui no wa watashida… Watashi ga subekidatta nda!" He whispered then yelled at himself.
Kenshi continued his mantra of survivor's guilt and self-loathing, uncaring about the violent rain hitting his back, until he noticed something shiny on the now muddy ground.
A dogtag.
His eye brows furrowed and he grabbed it and wiped the mud off.
The text on the dogtag brought more tears to his eyes.
JOHNNY CAGE
Blood: YOURS
Religion: CAGE
Johnny must have thrown it into the portal before it closed and before he was brutally killed. Johnny had told him about how his mother had this dogtag custom made for him as a birthday gift.
He brought the dogtag to his chest, right where his heart is, and clutched onto it like it was the most precious thing in the world. Because it is, his blood is on your hands and this dogtag is the only thing left of him.
Kenshi put the dogtag on and stood up. He wiped the tears from his eyes and started making his way towards the academy.
═════════•°•⚠•°•═════════
Kenshi entered the academy, not caring about the fact he was soaking wet, and was instantly greeted by several familiar face.
Kung Lao was the first to notice him. But he also noticed another thing.
"Kenshi, where's Johnny?"
Tears welled up in Kenshi's eyes again and he looked down at the ground and shook his head.
Silence.
Everyone knew what had happened.
Johnny is dead.
"H-how?-" Raiden attempted to ask but was interrupted by Kenshi.
"Stabbed through the chest by Reiko's spear." Kenshi's voice was hard and stern, clearly it intimidated everyone.
Or rather, nearly everyone.
Bi-Han walked towards him with his brothers attempting to stop him.
"Brother, please-" Kuai Liang tried.
Bi-Han walked up close to him and growled in his ear. "What did you just say?..." Bi-Han's voice was deeper and more intimidating than usual.
"I said, Johnny was stabbed through the heart by Reiko."
Bi-Han got even closer and more quietly whispered.
"You swore you would protect him. That you would bring him back me and his daughter."
Kenshi did swear that and he failed to fulfill that promise.
Having had enough, Kenshi walked past Bi-Han while aggressively and purposefully bumped his shoulder against Bi-Han's own.
When he passed Liu Kang, he brushes his cold wet sleeve against Liu Kang's.
Now, there was only one other person to face.
Cassandra Carlton "Cassie" Cage.
----AUTHOR'S NOTE----
Now I will admit, I've never written angst before but this was actually pretty good! And remember those coldstar headcanons centered around smut? That was my first time writing smut too!
Next will write about coldstar's first kiss and then Johnny's revival!
