Now don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the Dark Cacao Kingdom, and Dark Cacao is probably tied with Dark Choco as my favorite character because I love their relationship and drama, but to me it seems clear that in Ovenbreak, Dark Choco was supposed to come from a fallen kingdom, one by his own hand, and I kind of wish we had that in Kingdom, since I think it’s a pretty interesting idea with a lot of potential

I mean I guess I can see why they changed it so that Dark Choco’s kingdom is still around, considering the ruler is one of the Ancients, and he kind of needs to be alive to be part of the main story, and if he’s alive, he at least would probably be trying to rebuild his kingdom and it wouldn’t just be in ruins, not unless he was presumed dead and lost his memories or something so he doesn’t show back up. And also having a fallen kingdom but its original ruler coming back and then trying to rebuild it again is kind of what happens with the Vanilla Kingdom, so they’d just be doing the same story again with Dark Cacao’s kingdom. So like, I get why they changed it for the sake of the story, but it’s also a shame because I like the concept of the Shattered Kingdom, and with how popular CRK and I’m pretty sure Dark Cacao is, chances are what we have here is going to be the norm going forward instead of the original

Granted, maybe I think that because the Shattered Kingdom is woefully underused as a story element in Ovenbreak. Like we have the stages, but we know so little about it, other than it being Dark Choco and Chess Choco’s homeland, and that Dark Choco destroyed it. Like, as I recall it’s only been seen/talked about once in a story, and not by characters who were actually native to it. Like yeah we know Dark and Chess are from there but we have yet to see them actually talk about the kingdom. I mean we don’t even know its original name, since I doubt it was always called that. And so maybe I’m just kind of wishing that Kingdom would have picked up the slack instead. But still

Edit: I’m thinking about this again, I think my overall point is that Dark Choco’s story was definitely retconned come Kingdom, and while I like his story in Kingdom, I lament what could have been, since I think that had a lot of potential too

thinking about how the ending to the kh2 tutorial really brought Roxas to this horribly painful breaking point. the line specifically where DiZ tells him that he has no right to exist, despite Roxas' protesting. how he calls Roxas a tool, not even a person. the fact that he fuckin' laughs while Roxas rightfully lashes out. And he isn't even in the room, like he couldn't be bothered to actually be there. Or maybe he knew just how angry Roxas would be.
