“I have been ready since our appointed time,” he murmured, laughter breaking through. “It is you who are late.”

“‘You can’t rush art!’” Roman’s voice grew closer. “‘When I bestride him, I soar,’” he cried, leaping over the banister in full medieval armor. “‘I am—’”
