Chills Right to the Marrow Part 16
part 1, prev part
Despite the advice of both Steve and Wayne, Dusitn returns to the hospital the next day. Stands outside of Eddie’s room for longer than he should. Wondering if walking through the doors will bring the same torment as before. If anything will change.
He can’t bring himself to do it. Turns from the door and continues down the hall, deciding to visit Max. The rest of the group is already there. He was just going to be late.
They are sitting around the bed and talking. As if it was a lunch table. Or the couch of one of their living rooms. Bringing back the warm feelings of friendship. Of a never changing form of love. Reminding him that there is light in the dark, as long as he searches for it.
But just because there is light, doesn’t mean the dark isn’t suffocating.
Dustin’s mind lingers in the realm between rooms. The hallway that melds happiness and sorrow. As people reunite or lose their loved ones. Cope with the understanding that everything has changed. Or nothing has changed at all.
Everyone here is deciding to ignore the change for a moment. Try to look straight at the light for as long as they can. Until it leaves spots in their eyes and forces them to turn away. Ignoring it almost hurts as much as acknowledging it.
Maybe not for everyone, but it causes Dustin to remain quiet. Adding things to conversation, when necessary, but otherwise no words form. Laughter dies before hitting his lips. Feels so foreign. The muscles that pull the smile up on his face pulled down by weights. Each formation marking itself with burned energy.
But in the end, it’s the first moment he’s had in weeks where he isn’t fully drowning. Where part of the pain sets itself aside and allows him to breath. He forgot how nice it felt to be unburdened.
“Alright, what’s up with you,” Max asks when the rest of the group leaves. Dustin procrastinating traveling down the hall again.
“What?”
Max tilts her head to the side, the annoyance still ripe in the clouded glare. “You have barely said anything since you got here. You’ve never been this quiet. What’s going on?”
“How can you act so, not different? Like nothing has changed.” Dustin pauses, trying to find the right words to say. “You’re acting so ok. I’m not sure I would have I gone through what you did.”
Max shrugs, picking at her cast. “If I’m not laughing, I’m crying or shutting down. And I do when you guys leave. But laughing feels so much better than crying, so I try to laugh when I can.”
She has a point with that. Dustin feels how the laughter lifted weights. Made the joy trapped away in the pain start to flutter again.
“But don’t you wish that things turned out differently?” The question seems stupid now that it’s asked, but Dustin still wants to know.
Max raises her head, her clouded eyes looking towards Dustin but missing him slightly. “Of course I do. I miss seeing you guys. All I can see are the shadows of you when you stand in front of the light. It’s hard to remember things that I thought I didn’t have to memorize.”
She takes a breath to blink away the tears. “But, I can either be miserable because of the way life turned out and get caught up in these possible scenarios that could have happened. Or, I can learn to live this life that I almost lost. I was stuck in the what ifs before, I don’t want to be stuck in them again.”
Dustin wishes it were that easy. To just push them away and forget that the other possibilities exist. That there could have been a lifetime that he could have stopped Eddie from cutting that rope. From stopping and running out into the hoard of bats. Stop him from enduring all this pain.
“I heard about Eddie,” Max says when Dustin doesn’t respond. “I hope he gets better soon.”
“Me too.”
“It’s not his fault you know, the anger and the yelling and stuff. I had a moment like that when I woke up from the coma. It only lasted a few hours for me, but I was only in one for a few days. Eddie’s been stuck in one for over a week.”
Dustin lets out a deep breath. Tears threatening to fall. “It looked like he didn’t even recognize me.”
“He did,” Max quickly says. “Somewhere in his mind, he did. It just might not have come to the surface that fast. It’s weird waking up from a coma. It’s like your body is brand new, and everything feels wrong. You have to relearn everything. Including memories.”
“I never thought of it that way.”
“You’ve never been in a coma before,” Max shrugs. “Most people don’t.”
Dustin sits with her for a few more minutes before going to leave. Max stopping him on his way out to say one last thing.
“He’s going to remember, Dustin.”
He turns to look at her again. Seeing the pain engulf her face. Realizing how much all of this has affected her too.
“Be there for him when he does.”
Dustin nods, not realizing that she can’t see it. Stopping himself before he shuts the door to call out to her. Make sure she knows he understands.
“I will.”
He walks down the hall. Stopping in front of Eddie’s door again. Hand hovering over the handle. Pushing himself to make it turn. Step into the threshold and sit in his chair. Alone in a hospital room with his friend.
Eddie’s asleep. Looking more peaceful that yesterday. The pain and anger faded from his face. Leaving only the calmness that comes with sleep. Dustin thought the calmness of his face would sting, but all it does is bring comfort. Knowing that right in this moment, Eddie feels nothing.
Doing what he has done for the past week, Dustin pulls out the battered-up copy of The Fellowship of the Ring and turns to the page he left off on. Letting the words of this great adventure fill the room. One where lowly hobbits left the only town they ever knew, to do something grand. Something for the betterment of their entire world.
In a way, all of them were the hobbits. Broken out of the innocence of unknowing and thrown into the unbelievable reality. Walked themselves to Mordor and back. With their scars and bruises. But in the end, they continued to have lives. Be able to continue on with their own adventures.
Eddie stirs as Dustin makes it to the last chapter. Opens his eyes and turns towards Dustin. Blankly stares as the book concludes. Tries to sit up as Dustin closes the book. Falls back onto the pillows with a wince.
“Help,” he whispers. “Please.”
Dustin stands from his chair. Raises the back of Eddie’s bed slightly higher so Eddie’s sitting more vertically. Still with a slight recline.
Eddie takes a deep breath, eyes closing as he licks his chapped lips. “I yelled.” Another deep breath. “I’m sorry.”
Dustin shakes his head, not wanting to add to Eddie’s pain. “It’s ok. I know you didn’t mean it.”
Tears gloss over Eddie’s eyes. Dripping down his cheeks. “I’m sorry.”
He realizes that Eddie means for more than just yesterday. For everything he doesn’t even remember doing, but deep in the depths of his mind knows he did. Understanding that he is here for some reason. And it caused both of them pain.
Dustin reaches out and takes Eddie’s hand. Feels the life as he grips Dustin’s fingers with all the strength that Eddie has right now. “Don’t be.”
“Love you, Henderson.” Eddie whispers before closing his eyes again. Falling back to sleep.
Dustin cries. He remembers. “Love you too, Eddie.”
Note: This full chapter is now posted on my ao3. Now back to Wayne

Outsiders parents/backstory hc
Also tw: abuse, alcoholism, hoarding, and death via cancer (not super graphic descriptions but still worth a tw)
Curtis brothers
So we all know what happened to their parents and we kinda have a general idea of what they were like before they died
BUT I still have like one hc for them and it's abt their names
So Darrel Curtis is obviously named after his father and one day as ms.curtis is like 4-6 moths pregnant she asks Darrell jr (at abt 5 years old) what they should name his baby brother and Darrel just looking at the first thing he sees exclaims "soda pop!"
And after sodas born and his mom is pregnant with her third child asks soda (once again only at 3 years old and having developed a pony and horse obsession) what to name his new baby brother and soda just said "hmmmm Ponyboy"
And the Curtis brothers joke and tease eachother abt how they picked out eachothers names
Johnny
Once again we kinda already know everything abt his parents but I still have one😭
He had a pet rabbit with dark black fur and floppy ears as a child and his parents got rid of it because they got tired of it and annoyed that their son had his own companion
Johnny does still hold a grudge against his parents for it
Steve
I think in the book it's sorta hinted at that his dad doesn't really like him because he keeps getting kicked out
I hc that his dad's abusive and his wife left him for it and he only got worse from there
Steve still has to deal with it though
His dad isn't a full alcoholic he just has crazy mood swings and some days he's actually a semi friendly guy but other days he's just awful
Two bit
I think it's hinted at in the movie(???) that his moms a hoarder because his house is a mess and his mom would have a fit if he ever cleaned up his house
So I'm just running along with that here
In case you aren't familiar with hoarding the main cause of it is usually a life changing event like someone dying or abandoning you
So I think either his father left or died to make his mom spiral into hoarding
Dallas
Ok now we're getting really in depth with this one
We know Dallas grew up in New York and I'm gonna say he moved to Oklahoma when he was 12-15
I think his father was a pretty normal guy aside from being VERY homophobic (like that's a main part of his personality) New York is a little more accepting of gay ppl but he really wanted to make sure his son (Dallas) didn't grow up to be queer and instilled a strong sense of internalized homophobia within his kid
His mother died of skin cancer and after that the next few months his father became neglectful
One day his father just decides he can't live in New York and needs to go down south(note that his dad did not pick this location because of his homophobia)
And off Dallas went to Tulsa Oklahoma
His dad (having experienced a dead wife and major life change) took all of his untreated trauma out on his kid
Right as Dallas turned 17 he made it a goal to get out of his house and stop speaking to his father
He started talking more with Buck and spending more time with him and eventually just moved into a guest bedroom upstairs
He does not speak to his father at all anymore and he's proud of it

Cub Part 13
Tumblr media
Pairing: Roman Reigns X Reader
Synopsis: Roman, Seth and Dean are a pack of werewolfs. Protecting their city from the scumbags of the world ends up with a surprise when a victim left for dead imprints on Roman Reigns.
Part 13
I was exhausted after the flight and the ensuing boat ride, but as I stood on the stern of the boat, watching as we glided to the shore, I saw the crowd waiting for us. Probably 100 people had gathered to greet us. Drums pounded out a rhythm, and teenagers danced in welcome. I took in every sound, every smell, every piece of tropical beauty as we neared the shore, and I was energized again.
A small group had gathered on the dock to greet us. “Cub, welcome to Samoa,” an older woman said as she put a lei on my neck. The other members of the welcoming group placed leis on the necks of the rest of our group. “I am Filemu, Tribal Chief for our tribe. It is an honor and a joy to meet you. Thank you for your sacrifice.”
Sacrifice? I questioned Roman through our mental link. “They mean thank you for adding a new blood line to strengthen our tribe. We’re not gonna throw you in a volcano or anything” He answered back as he kissed my temple. I stifled my desire to laugh.
I didn’t know how to answer, so I just nodded. “Let’s get you seated. Do you need anything? Anything at all?” Filemu asked as our party started moving toward a building.
A particularly bad muscle spasm in my leg started and I felt myself start to collapse, but Roman was quick to pick me up and carry me bridal style into the building.
Inside the small, squat, concrete building, I was surprised to find a state of the art interior. Three tables ran along one wall. That must be where the tribal counsel presided. At the center of the table, the Tribal Chief sat in an elaborate chair, and motioned Roman to set me in the chair next to her. “Let’s get our guests some food and drink”, Filemu commanded, and as the rest of our party filed into the hall, a young woman came to see what I wanted. I settled on some pineapple juice; figuring it should be amazingly fresh, and I was happy to find it was better than I expected.
As the tribe filed in, I started to see the disapproving looks from some of the tribe; the men in particular. Roman wasn’t acknowledging the looks or the murmurs, but I could feel the guilt inside him. Some of these men had helped raise Roman. They had helped shape his morality and ethics, and knowing he broke the most sacred tribal rule, he knew he’d let these men down.
“Hey,” I thought. “You didn’t do anything wrong.” I squeezed his hand reassuringly.
“I should be comforting you.” He answered.
My answer was cut off when Filemu’s attention focused on me again. “Ok, Little wolf. Tonight, we celebrate you joining our Tribe. We’re throwing you a huge party.”
A cough caught our attention. Roman’s father, the imposing figure, stood before us. “My Tribal Chief, I’m very excited to announce that Y/N went into heat on the plane.” Really? Did he have to say it so loud? I had just a second to cringe before I realized that nobody in the room seemed phased.
“Oh! Well! We’ll have to move the party back a few days.” Filemu said, and I heard some panic about all the food that was already cooked.
“No. No. Please! You’ve all gone to so much trouble! Let’s have the party. Maby we can sneak off somewhere if the need arises.” I said.
Filemu smiled wide. “It would be our honor to host your mating room.”
I was beginning to protest. “Oh please don’t go to any troub….” I could feel Roman stop me.
“It really is an honor” he said to me, and I let it drop.
“I truly appreciate everything, and I hope I have a chance to thank everyone.”
Filemu put her hand on mine and tapped it gently. Looking up, she commanded the tribe to settle without a word. “Who would like to prepare a mating room?”
Immediately, a hoard of teenagers raised their hands, hoping for the chance to impress their Tribal Chief. Filemu picked a few teens who rushed into action as soon as they were chosen.
Filemu focused on me again, “Now that’s settled. Would you like to go to the hotel and rest now?” Even though it was a question, her tone of voice indicated it was an order.
“With all due respect my Tribal Chief,” Filemu focused her attention on me. “I’m anxious to settle this matter of the imprinting immediately. That’s why we flew here.”
“Little wolf, aren’t you tired?” Filemu asked.
“I am, but I’m afraid I won’t be able to relax until my mate is out of hot water.” I answered as reverently as I could.
Filemu stared at me, assessing my mood, and finding me serious. She inhaled deeply “I understand. I cannot guarantee I’ll be able to assemble the entire counsel today, but I will try.” She looked me directly in the eye, and I knew she was telling the truth. “Would you like to rest while I get everything prepared?”
I smiled warmly, “I would. Thank you.”

OK THX U FOR LETTING ME TALK ABOUT MY MC S/I, HERES HIS BACKSTORY
Long ramble below
Cw for swearing and mentions of violence
2Hex (He doesn't remember his real name) was a child genius who was in a gifted program for future scientists. However him and a couple of other kids excelled above all others and were allowed to look at real life projects!! Thanks FSN!! (Future scientists of Nevada)
However Hex was not very well liked. He's loud, irrational, childish, egotistical, didn't understand social cues and probably sociopathic. He was the kid to burn ants with a magnifying glass for fun. Very smart but craved approval which led to him rushing projects to impress the adults. Ultimately, it led to him being 2nd to everything and very few actually appreciated his presence. Hex was very aware of it but too full of himself to acknowledge it. Also he was barely even old enough to go to highschool so take that as you will
Unfortunately for him and everyone else around him he was also a HUGE kleptomaniac and hoarder. He would steal small things like nails or pencils to bigger things like copies of blueprints and one time he stole a literal power source that could change the outcome of everyone's future, for better or for worse. Everyone knew it was him, just no one had any proof. Hex wasn't even 100% sure of what the thing he stole was, he just thought it'd be a fun challenge to take it. But he kept quiet because
It'd mean the agency would know where his lil hoard hideout was
If he were to show them they'd take everything back
Extra security would be put on him afterwards
There's a good chance he'd get kicked out of the program permanently, which was also his supply source
If they didn't want it stolen then don't make it so small stupid!
But looking back maybe it'd be better if he spoke up about it. A few days of everyone panicking to look where it was he was interrogated. At first they tried to be gentle because well... it's a 13 year old. But seeing as he wasn't popular with anyone they quickly got aggressive
"Everyone in this facility knows it was you! Stop fucking around and just give it back you piece of shit!"
"You're mad over something I didn't do? Ooh nooo I stole a few pencils in the past! It must be me! The horror, the horror!"
"STOP! You did it, you did it, YOU DID IT!"
"No one thought to put security cameras in the room? You're telling me you just trust over a 100 plus people in the building to not take anything and when something was stolen you blame it on a 13 year old? Woooow."
"We did review each and every camera in the building that day! The few cameras that weren't working were the ones where it was! No one outside the facility should knew about it!"
"Hey fuck off, I build stuff not break into stuff!"
"No no no no no no, out of all the people working that day you were the only person we had trouble locating at the time!"
"Then where is it?"
"What the fuck did you say to me?"
"Yeah hypothetically if a 13 year old did break into this 'important thing' of yours then you should've atleast saw me leaving the building with it!"
"You know what, screw this. We have other ways of making you talk."
Hex couldn't really tell you what happens next. One second he was sitting in a chair with a smug look on his face and the next second he was screaming on the floor bloody and bruised. At the time he didn't even understand why it was so important, he just know it was important enough for two grown men to beat up a teenager.
After that he was too scared to come back but one problem...he had nowhere to go. The program offered protection and free breakfast and he just lost all of that. So for the next few weeks he wandered around the city picking up any scraps while living in a very tiny hideout filled with stolen goods. He spent his days like this until 2bdamne.d found him crying in a alleyway, this scared Hex that he tried to run away and then proceeding to knock himself out with a wall.
Next thing he knew he woke up on a bed, an actual bed. Alongside that his bruises were tended to. Maybe if this wasn't Nevada this could be seen as a miracle. But there's no way anyone in Nevada of all places would just pick up an unconscious kid without any malicious intent. So he was scared.
2b tried his best to calm Hex down but he wasn't having any of it. It took 3 attempts to run away, 2 months for him to even share a fake name (which eventually became his real name), 3 months to comfortably be in arms reach of him, 6 for him to share bits about his past, 9 for him to show where he hid all of his stolen goods, and it wasn't until 10 months Hex finally accepted 2b as his guardian.
Over the years he worked hard on projects with the help of 2b and his stolen energy source. He even made an awesome gigantic robot friend to protect him! (Hex named them Eos btw) Sure Hex has blown himself up a few times and poisoned himself with fumes but overall everything has been going good for him! He even gets to work with the S.Q behind the scenes at times!
2Hex heard that they're going to recruit two new guys soon! Maybe he'll get to meet them soon

Yandree!Mammon general Headcannons
A warm up for something not Omori I finally finished. Wanted to go ahead and get this out before I go on my second grieving hiatus of 2021 because it turns out I’m not going to have a Merry Christmas this year. Congrats Mammon you’re like my first headcannon post in a long time and probably my last post of 2021 you greedy dirtbag.
Tumblr media
This boy is probably one of the most delusional there is, 1# delusional of the demon brothers but maybe 2# out of the whole cast somewhere between Diavolo’s level of delusion. Mammon believes you love him no matter what and you’d agree with every choice he makes and everything he says, why? Because you love him obviously! And why wouldn’t you? He was assigned to look after you , was the first demon you ever made a pact with, and he IS The Great Mammon, duh! As soon as he falls for you, which in cannon happens incredibly fast he’s dead set on winning you over, and is completely convinced you won’t choose someone over then him because he’s convinced that you love him, no matter how many times you tell him off or if you literally have to scream,” I don’t love you! Never did!”, he still believes you love him, you just don’t want to admit it. Just you being shy, nothing he finds wrong with that, it’s adorable!
Mammon comes up with countless excuses in his head to justify his actions when it comes to stuff like eliminating rivals, stalking you or maybe even kidnapping you if he’s unhinged enough . It doesn’t matter how many times you try to avoid him, he’s greedy for your attention, your love , your everything as he is the Avatar of Greed after all. You’re his Treasure, his love , his life, his everything. Once he’s gone deep for you, you’re more important to him than his credit card Goldie.
Stalking you is oh so easy ,normal Mammon already gets so clingy he refuses to stop following you like a lost puppy in a cannon, so who says he won’t just stalk you by doing the same? Hanging out with Levi and didn’t dare inform THE Great Mammon on it? How could you! But it’s ok he’s going to show up somewhere during your little hang out at the arcade to swoop you away from that gross otaku! He’s already over being jealous of the Avatar of Envy being the one you chose to spend time with instead of HIM, Mammon’s already thought of an excuse in his head for why you bothered with someone like Leviathan. You didn’t want to in the slightest, he guilt tripped you into hanging out! At least that’s what he tells himself as he attempts to run off with you after snatching you away from his brother, causing him to burst into a jealous rage and chase him down as you struggle under Mammon’s arms to break free. He’s just doing what's best for you! Of course his brothers don’t see that because they blame every single one of their problems on you, but why are you trying to resist him? That’s where his delusions come in where he tries to come up with a reason that makes sense to him for why you seem to never pick up on his intentions. Oh, maybe you’re just shy, or maybe his moves are clear enough for you or maybe, maybe one of his brothers casted a spell on you against his back to make you love them and not him! Any excuse he can think of becomes something he believes is true, which increases his paranoia and greed over you.
No matter how many times you try to resist saying those three words he’s dying to hear come from you so he can truly claim you as his, you’re his treasure. Shall he decide to kidnap you or keep you locked up somewhere he WILL hoard you all to himself like a dragon refusing to ever let go of it’s most luxurious treasure it’s ever had in possession. And he’s definitely going to cherish everything about you should he decide such actions are necessary to win your love. Cuddles? You’re getting smothered to oblivion in those, no matter how many times you complain, whine or try to move away he’ll just desperately want to give you more cuddles as he tries to think about why you don’t want his arms on you. Kisses? You’re getting those even if you don’t kiss back, he’ll just brush that off as “being shy” or “unprepared”. He’ll try to get anything he can to make you happy wherever he’s keeping you, unless of course he thinks of a way that whatever you want can be linked to escaping him.
And don’t think he’ll ever consider giving up, he’s never going to even if you end up dying, he’s just going to search for you and bring you back to the Devildom, with him where you truly belong, he doesn’t care if you're in the Celestial Realm, you really think the Avatar of Greed wouldn’t give up on his most precious treasure? Hah! Think again! All he wants is you to finally admit you’ve always loved him as much as he does you and even that won’t convince him to let you go. Mammon lives for you, you’re the shiniest, most precious jewel he’s ever laid eyes on, and he’d never give you up, he wants to have you all to his ! Just please tell him those three words he wants to hear so badly! It won’t convince him to let you go, and would cause him to be more delusional and clingy but he won’t try punishments ( which he probably already doesn’t do since he’s basically a soft boi) . Yes, yes MC say it again! Say you love him again! It’s music to his ears!
Now, he might be a soft boi that doesn’t want to hurt you but that doesn’t mean Mammon won’t hesitate to hurt others. If you’re somewhere in public he’s going to grab onto you and try to keep you as close as possible and straight up growl at those who dare get in his way. He’ll break some damn bones if he has to make any other demons back off! It’s their fault anyways for getting in his way and trying to steal his treasure from him! They mess with The Great Mammon they’re gonna pay! And his delusions cause him to think you’re on board with him snapping the neck of a random succubus or incubus that was casting glances at you, those perverts were going to steal you! Wait you’re not on board with him doing that especially in the Human World out of fear he might be sent behind bars for that? Aw! See MC, you do love him if you’re worried about him getting in trouble for his actions! Wanna help him get rid of these bodies? You clearly want him by your side if you’re scared of him being punished to spend time away from him because you love him right?
There’s no way you don’t love The Great Mammon, right MC? Just say the words when you’re done being shy! You can’t say no, it makes no sense so please tell him! Come on, treasure.

Cheesy Pick-Up Lines
Masterlist
Can’t get more self explanatory than this folks.
For Wind’s scenario, the reader is the same age.
Very cheesy lines up ahead. Viewer discretion is advised.
Time
“Do you believe in love at first sight- or I need to walk by again?” You raise an eyebrow at Time with a smirk and a cocky pose with a hand on your hip.
He looks down at you and fails to stop his own smirk in time.
However Time does not answer you.
You bite you tongue, a little frustrated at the lack of reaction and try with a different one. “You know if sexy was a crime, you’d be found guilty as charged.”
You wink this time for good measure.
Time snorts and shakes his head. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“...Trying to get you to blush.” You admit with a shy grin and a shrug.
“You’re going to have to do more than that.” His smirk grows.
“You could be a little cooperative.” You mutter and pout.
“Your lines need a little more work.” He begins to make his way toward you. “But there’s a golden rule to this that you should learn if you want a place to start.”
“Hey! What do you-” You stop short and gulp slightly as Time gets into your personal space. “...know...?”
Time takes your chin between his thumb and pointer finger and tilts your head up. It’s a gentle touch that catches you off guard and makes you feel smaller than you usually do when you’re next to him. He stares right into your eyes and your forced to do the same.
“Here’s the thing.” He begins and you swear his voice drops an octave. “I don’t consider myself a religious man... But when I first laid my eyes on you I knew that you were the answers to my prayers.”
Time lets you go and begins to walk away as if that never happened. “Delivery is key.”
You look after him, heart pounding, a little breathless and feeling the heat of his breath on your face still. Or maybe the heat is your blush.
Oh it’s on now.
Twilight
“Excuse me, Sir Twilight.” You wave to your friend and smile easily when he gives you his attention. “I am in need of a map.”
“Why are you talking like that?”
“I-... Come on man, you don’t have to rain on my parade.” You pout slightly and refuse to give in when he chuckles at your theatrics.
“Oh, my apologies. What do you need a map for?” He smiles and places his hands on his hips.
“It appears I’ve gotten lost.” You hold your head up high and step closer to him.
“How? I’m right here. How are you lost?”
“I’ve gotten lost in your eyes.” You wink and faint on him slightly. “They’re just like the ocean! I’d gladly swim in them all day!”
Twilight pushes you off gently and flicks your forehead.
“Ow.”
“You’ll live. You’ve got thick skin.” He grins. “It’s not as thick as my shirt however. It’s made out of something not found just anywhere.”
“Oh yeah?” You rub the spot gently. “What’s it made of then country boy? Goat hair?”
“Oh you know... It’s boyfriend material.” He says with a shrug and spins around to walk away.
“Oh haha...” You smirk and walk a little faster to catch up to him. “Of course it is. Before you go, do you mind holding this for me?”
You stick your clenched hand out next to Twilight and he holds his own hand out without any thought to it. “Sure what is it?”
You don’t answer and instead place your hand down in his, unfurl your fingers and lace them with his. “Thanks, it was getting heavy.”
He snorts but continues to hold it for the rest of the walk.
Wild
“Are you a camera? Because every time I look at you I smile!” You jump on Wild’s back and hug him from behind, a laugh on your breath and a grin on your face.
Wild laughs as well and grabs your arms, spinning around for a moment before letting you fall. “That was cheesy.”
“It was supposed to be.” You wink.
“Do you even have a camera?” Wild rolls his eyes.
“That has nothing to do with what I said.” You pout slightly and put your hands on your hips. “But I know you do. You’re really good at using it to.”
“Not that good.”
“Wild you have natural talent, a gift if you will, at taking photos.” You nudge him with your arm and mockingly bow.
“I’m wouldn’t consider myself a photographer.”
“But incredibly good at taking them in the moment.”
“I suppose so.” Wild shrugs and tosses a cocky smile in your direction. ”I mean, I can definitely picture us together.”
You bite you lip in an attempt to hide your growing grin. “Do you have any raisins?”
“Nope.”
“How about dates?”
“None of those either.”
“Want to go on one with me?”
Wild pauses mid-step and blinks for a moment before turning to you. “Oh, you’re good.”
Sky
“What is it that you do for fun back in your home world?” Sky asks as your both walking through the forest for the day.
Grin and tilt your head in his direction. “I’m studying to become a historian. I’m especially interested in finding a date.” You send him a wink.
He scoffs but smiles good naturedly. “Of course. Naturally.”
“You?”
“I like the ride my loftwing through the sky and see the view. I wish I could show you guys but...”
“Maybe when we get there.” You nudge his shoulder and point up to the clouds above you. “Hopefully the skies look better there than here.”
“It’s absolutely is.” He looks up as well and you look over to him.
You lean in a little and snap, a large smile on your face. “I think I figured it out!”
“What?”
“No wonder the sky is grey- all the color is in your eyes.”
Sky bites his lip and puts his hand to his face to hide his growing smile and blush as he laughs. “Stop.”
“Did the sun just come out or did you smile at me?”
“Oh my god!”
Hyrule
“Hyrule, I have a question that I think only you can answer.” You say and wrap your arm around his shoulders.
This takes him by surprise and he’s quick to offer his assistance. “What is it?”
“You’re pretty good with magic right?”
“I know a few spells, sure, but if it’s about magic as a whole? You might better off with Legend.” Hyrule shrugs and offers an apologetic smile.
“But my question is about your magic.” You stress and poke his chest. “You see, before I get to where I’m going, let me ask you this. Are you a magician?”
“...I’d consider myself more a mage?” He tilts his head.
“Ok, prefect, explain this to me then, if you’d be so kind.” You can’t help but grin wildly. “Why is it then, that I’m looking at you, you make everyone else disappear?”
“I...I don’t know.’ Hyrule blushes all the way down to his neck and scratches it bashfully. He takes a minute to compose himself before grinning and tossing you a shy side eye. “You’re too sweet, you know that?”
“Believe me, you’re the sweet one. You’re giving me a toothache over here!”
Hyrule shoves you away then and clamps his hands over his face but from what he doesn’t cover, you can see the wide grin from behind his hands.
Mission accomplished.
Legend
“You take that back Fancy Pants!” Legend shouted. “Or I’ll toss right into the heart of Death Mountain!”
“You couldn’t.” Warrior rolled his eyes. “Not without your oh- so- powerful bracelets and rings and hoard of items.”
“If I could change the alphabet, I’d put F and U together!”
Warrior snorted and walked away. “Just admit that you lost and leave it at that. There’s no need to embarrass yourself further.”
“You-!”
You sighed and walked up to where Legend was left fuming. “Great come back.”
“Shut up!”
“I wouldn’t take what he says to heart.” You shrug and smile at him. “I think he just gets a kick out of your reactions.”
“That brainless, boorish-”
“You want to know something?” You cut him off before he could go on a cursing spree for the next hour.
“Sure.” He spits. “Hit me with it. What do I care.”
“If I could change of the alphabet, I’d put U and I together.” You grin widely and wait for his reaction.
But you don’t get one.
Instead he stares at you unamused with his arms crossed and face flat. “Ok, I think I get what he means now.”
“What?” You raise and eyebrow and scoff. “Is that not good enough for you? Ok. How about this one then? You have so many items. Any chance that you have an extra heart? Mine’s been stolen!”
You complete the sentence with throwing yourself onto his side, hand on your forehead and looking up at him with the most blissful expression you can manage.
He snorts a little, forgetting his previous sour attitude and shoves you off.
“That’s low hanging fruit.”
“Geeze tough crowd.” You brush yourself off and grin at him. “Despite that, I have to say, even though we’re not socks, I think we’d make a great pair!”
“You’re impossible.” He smiles a little easier and begins to walk away.
Well, he might have missed your point but at least he was feeling better.
Four
You sigh and run your hand through your hair. It’s wet and sticking to your face as you get out of the lake.
Four is there on the other side and you find yourself grinning.
Despite the way everything seems to be sticking to you, you jog to where he is and stop in front of him. “Here I am! What are your other two wishes?”
He snorts and glances in your direction. He stills suddenly and no so subtlety looks you up and down.
“Like what you see?”
“It’s a good thing I brought my library card.” He says in response.
“You have your what now?”
“Because I am totally checking you out.”
You blink and laugh. Because yes, you are soaking wet and all your clothes are sticking to your figure.
“Huh.” You roll your eyes and sit next to him in the sun to dry off faster. “This spot open?”
“Go right on ahead.”
“I think I have something wrong with my eyes.” You grin.
“Wait, really?” He spin in his spot to look into them as if that’ll make or break the problem. “What’s the problem?”
“I just can’t seem to take them off of you.”
Four goes red immediately and shoves you away with one hand on his face and other on yours. “Ok, you win.”
Warrior
“So aside from being sexy, what do you do for a living?” You slide up to where Warrior was sitting and lean on his shoulder, waiting for his reaction to your line.
He turns his head to look at you and you show him your cheesiest smile and he rolls his eyes.
“Wow...I’ve never heard that one before.” He snorts, letting it slide.
It clicks then that, that could have gone really bad considering it’s Warrior and he’s probably dealt with all kinds of harassments. But you count your lucky stars that he appears to be humoring you and isn’t offended at least.
“Alright, tough guy, what’s your best one?” You challenge and sit next to him.
“Really?”
“Yes. Prove me wrong. Go on. Do it.”
Warrior looks down at the ground for a second and looks back at you with that trade marked smirk, you associate him with. “Are you sure you can fire one back though? I’m sure you’re tired.”
“Why on earth would I be tired? It’s the middle of the day.”
“You were running through my mind all night. So, you must be tired. ” He says casually and looks away.
The blush is instantaneous on your face and you have to cough and look away from his stupid-charming face. That one... has a lot of implications..... depending on the audience..
A moment of silence passes and he laughs a little quietly under his breath. “That’s it? That’s all it took?”
“No.” You squeak and look at him head on.
Your blush still hasn’t gone away.
“I just...”
Warrior continues smirking. He’s enjoying this. “Cat got your tongue?”
You huff and look at the supplies in front of you. “It’s hardly my fault.”
“Sure it is.”
“You’re so beautiful that you made me forget my pick up line.”
Warrior stills and coughs in a similar manner that you did only seconds ago.
Now you’re both blushing messes.
Wind
“Hey Wind!” You call and run up to his side. “I just figured something out!”
“What is it?” Wind stops mid step and waits for you to reach his side.
You’re a little out of breath from running the distance but you grin wildly at him. “If you were a vegetable, you’d be a cute-cumber.”
He snorts and shoves you away slightly, continuing to walk along the trail behind the others. You can hear some of the older ones chuckles but you’re determined.
“I think out of everyone, you’re the cute one here, actually.” Wind smiles in your direction and it throws you off of your rhythm for a moment.
Enough so that you actually trip and fall on the trail, pain shooting from your knee.
“Woah, hey, are you ok?” Wind jogs back to you and helps you up.
You hiss and look at the damage. As far as scrapes go, it’s not that bad, but you are bleeding a little.
“Do you have a bandage?” You blink up at Wind. “I just scraped my knee falling for you.”
He blinked a bit, stunned and confused before a lightbulb seems to go in his head and he blushes brightly. He chuckles and places a hand be the back of his neck. Wind then gets down to his knees next to you and brushes the dirt from your knee. He’s very cute when he’s bashful, you think.
“Let me see what I have in my pack.” He says with a bright grin.
It’s not like the others are watching this all go down or anything....
They don’t say anything though, less they ruin the tenderness of budding crushes.

They are silent once the safehouse is deemed secure. The quiet is deafening as it shrouds them both. It’s almost oppressive as they take stock of what they’d just escaped from and process the fact they’d been in a shootout about an hour ago. The lack of sound is jarring, it’s such a contrast, but there is a comfort in it as well, because they’re okay. They’re safe and they’re together. Now, where there is no one shooting at them, no one chasing them, they can both finally rest and let their guard down. The adrenaline is abating, leaving muscles quivering and allowing breaths to leave their lungs much easier.
The Colonel sits heavily on the couch behind them, letting the cushions catch all of his weight as a long sigh of relief passes over his lips. He lets out a quiet hiss as he hits a sore spot, either on his legs or up his back, but apart from that he’s silent.
Riza feels the tension fizzle out of her shoulders, dragging them both downward slowly, peeling away from her ears, as she finally starts to let herself relax.
They’ve both had a rough few hours, but they made it out. There’s a few bruises and lacerations covering their skin; Riza has one on her left forearm and one on the left of her abdomen, and the Colonel has a small one on his cheek. His lip is burst as well, the result of an unsuspecting punch to the face. She’s sure he sustained more as they fought their way out to safety, but she can’t be sure. There’s no blood pooling on his clothes or saturating any of the fabric of his uniform, so that’s something. That was enough while they fought their way out.
“Lieutenant?” His call for her attention is soft so not to startle her and it’s full of concern.
She turns, wondering what he needs, to see his questioning stare as he watches her still standing in place with her hands clenched by her sides. Her fingers relax automatically, letting go of the tension, but she cannot help the wince as the muscles of her forearm contract, aggravating her injury there.
“Are you all right?”
“Of course, sir.”
He scrutinises her for a moment longer than usual. His eyes narrow slightly as he does so, indicating he doesn’t quite believe her, but she is. He lets it go with a simple nod.
“Sit,” he urges, gesturing to the cushions next to him on the couch. “Please.” He beckons her gently with a tired smile.
The Colonel’s expression mirrors her own, Riza is sure. Exhaustion has settled deep within her bones, and she knows she should stop, that she should sit down and tend to her wounds. With the adrenaline gone her side is throbbing, and both injuries need cleaned and covered as soon as possible. There’s a sharp pain in her oblique muscle as she thinks about her worst one, which makes her twitch and grimace.
“Lieutenant.” He almost breathes her rank. It catches her attention and she’s momentarily taken aback by the look on his face. It’s filled with understanding, and his concern is back. One eyebrow lifts in an enquiry, calling back to his earlier question regarding her wellbeing.
“Honestly, I’m all right,” she assures him. “It’s only a few bumps and bruises.”
The Colonel nods. “Okay. Shall we see to that wound on your side?”
Riza watches as he swallows after speaking. It wasn’t his fault or hers, it was the fault of the man who’d been wielding a knife, but as her commanding officer she knows the Colonel will hoard the responsibility for everything that happened today.
“What about the one on your cheek?” Her counter makes him smile knowingly.
“Mine feels like it’s nothing compared to that,” he replies, nodding towards her torso. His smile dies on his lips as they both look at the patch of blood seeping through her military jacket. Real worry replaces his concern and Riza nods, giving in.
“Come here,” he coaxes, speaking ever so gently.
The mood feels like it has shifted slightly but Riza dismisses it. She’s too tired and sore and will still need to see to his wounds once she’s been taken care of. There are more important things to focus on.
“Sir, I can see to it myself. I don’t mind.” Riza appreciates his offer more than he could know, but she still has to say it. She doesn’t want him to feel obligated to do so.
Realising his gentle command is going ignored, the Colonel stands to join her and slowly reaches out to catch her fingers within his own. He curls them around her digits, but his touch is light. Unrestricting, but tender. His touch is calming and welcome.
“Lieutenant.” His tone is firm, but he’s not ordering her to do anything. It’s placating and an offer. “Let’s clean up that wound. I don’t want you twisting and turning any more than is necessary, given its location, but only if you’re comfortable with that. It’s completely up to you.”
She stares at him, noting the undercurrent of worry but also taking in the care she sees in his eyes. He wants to help her. He wants to look after her, to make sure she’s patched up and all right.
The Colonel does not tug her towards him. He simply holds her hand, his own arm outstretched and waiting, giving her the freedom to pull away if she so wishes. It’s her choice; go to him and accept whatever he is willing to offer or take a step back and away. The Colonel won’t mind if she picks the latter, Riza doesn’t think. He will be mildly disappointed. He’ll probably pout at her childishly, but it will not become an issue between them… The thought of his reaction almost makes her smile fondly. The corners of her lips twitch.
She steps forwards and his smile grows wider as he smoothly guides her towards him by the hand. Before their bodies can collide, he sidesteps and lowers her hand to their sides before turning and taking a cautious step down the hall behind him, waiting for her to follow him.
Even into hell.
Of course, she follows him.

“How does that feel?”
“Good.” The bandage around her torso is secure and places enough pressure on her wound. The safehouse is well stocked with plenty of first aid supplies so there’s more than enough for them both.
Riza straightens in her chair at the table in the safehouse’s kitchen. She’d leant forward onto her elbows, being mindful of her injured arm, as the Colonel cleaned up her side. As he did so, she saw to her forearm, both working in tandem to patch her up. It was an arduous affair, but a necessary one. With every wince and flinch she felt him hesitate behind her. Riza could almost feel the sorrow pouring off him, but there was nothing else to be done. He knows that, but it still doesn’t mean that he likes being the cause of it for her.
She shivers as cool air washes over her exposed skin and her side twinges with pain. Reflexively a hand rises to cover the aching area.
“Still sore?”
She nods, and the Colonel sighs quietly. She knows what he’s thinking. He wants to take her pain away.
“It will be okay, sir,” she placates.
He huffs and mumbles to himself, not satisfied, which causes Riza to roll her eyes fondly at his antics.
Before she can move any further, something is draped over her shoulders. She had to remove her shirt for the Colonel to work on her properly, so she’d been left in just her sports bra, but looking down she sees the Colonel’s black overcoat covering her. She knows it’s his because she’s suddenly shrouded in the smell of him.
It makes her smile. Riza leans back in her chair and tugs the article of clothing tighter around her body, relishing in the warmth it provides and the comfort it brings, alongside the thoughtfulness of his gesture. She shoots him a grateful smile, but he doesn’t notice. He’s too focussed cleaning up after his work. Riza watches him, taking in the look of concentration on his handsome features as he carefully collects the soiled bandages and wipes. When he senses eyes on him, the Colonel glances up and looks at her so expectantly – it’s almost innocent – before his expression changes and turns perplexed.
It reminds her of the boy she grew up with. Before war and guilt and unspeakable atrocities.
“What is it?” There’s a smile tugging at his lips, and she discovers its contagious.
“Nothing,” she replies, schooling her expression and readjusting his coat.
“Is anything wrong?”
“No,” she replies. “There’s nothing wrong at all. Thank you for your coat.”
His smile is bright and pleased. “Of course, Lieutenant. You’re welcome.”
After the waste is disposed of the Colonel wipes carefully at his cheek and lip. The alcohol smarts and he hisses in pain and flinches away from it, but still powers on through. It’s a quick job, only taking about five minutes, and once he’s done, he rummages around inside the first aid kit once more.
“I could have helped you with that,” Riza offers. As she sits up in her chair she flinches as the movement jostles her side.
“And that’s precisely why I did it myself,” he chuckles quietly, eyeing her above the mirror he had propped up on the table between them. It had been fascinating to watch him work. “Here.” A small white bottle is offered to her. Painkillers. “These will help with your pain, apparently.”
“Thank you. Is there any ice for your bruises?”
The Colonel nods and collects it from the freezer. It’s pressed to his cheek, and he grumbles about the cold.

While the safehouse is well equipped and the perfect spot for them, they are both presented with a small issue when night falls.
Both stare at the single bed in the bedroom.
The Colonel scratches the back of his neck and fidgets on the spot, shifting his weight from one foot to the other once, then twice. Riza exhales slowly and quietly, resigning herself to their sleeping arrangements. She grips his coat tighter, so it doesn’t fall off her shoulders.
Riza could have changed into a t-shirt but she can’t quite let go of his coat just yet. The Colonel doesn’t comment on it either. He doesn’t question her choice and seems more than happy to allow her to keep it for the time being.
“I…” The Colonel clears his throat quietly. “I can take the couch.”
As he turns away Riza’s hand reaches out. She grips onto his shirt, halting him. He looks down at her hand, before his eyes jerk back up to meet hers. He knows what she’s asking of him already, but he still hesitates. He still waits for her to voice it aloud.
Like the courtesy he’d offered her earlier, he can move away if he wishes to. Her grip isn’t tight or restrictive, yet he doesn’t pull away. She doesn’t expect him to stay with her but…
She wants him to.
“What do you need, Lieutenant?” His prompt comes after they’ve been standing in silence for a beat longer than he expected.
She looks up at him, gripping onto his coat.
“You.”
The bed is a tight squeeze, but they manage. The military wouldn’t splash out for a large double bed for their officers. In all honesty, Riza is surprised there’s even a proper bed, and not just a cot. But she supposes it would have kept up appearances when they moved equipment into the neighbourhood.
Riza is pressed with her back to the wall while the Colonel faces her –
It feels wrong to refer to him as such in their current position. The mission is over. They’re laying low and off duty while the heat clears from them both after their escape. They’re not Lieutenant and Colonel right now…
She snakes her injured arm underneath his, reaching across his torso, and spreads her fingers across his lower back. Their bodies are pressed even closer together – she can feel the heat radiating off of him (which makes her smile to herself) – but he’s secure. She wants to ensure he won’t fall backwards off the bed in sleep.
“Are you comfortable?” His breath washes over Riza and her eyes flutter closed at the pleasant feeling. His voice is so low that it causes her to relax instantly. It’s such a pleasing sound as she lies there, pressed up against him.
She hums her approval. Riza tips her head forwards, causing it to brush against his chin and throat as she burrows even deeper into the warmth between them. The painkillers are kicking in and making her drowsy.
“Good.”
Her sleepy grin is hidden when she feels lips on the top of her head, but she makes a soft, pleased sound as he kisses her. When his hand runs through her short hair she’s almost lost to sleep completely.
“As much as it pains me to see you with those injuries, it has worked out quite well for us.” He laughs, but there’s a nervous edge to it.
A frown tugs at her brow as confusion becomes prominent. “What do you mean?”
“It makes us the perfect fit,” he murmurs after a brief pause.
He’s right. Lying on his uninjured side leaves him in the perfect position to lie facing her, and Riza lying on hers leaves her able to curl into him.
“So, getting punched in the face was your plan all along? So you could cuddle me in bed at night?”
His laughter is full of joy at her joke. “Anything for you, Lieutenant,” he winks, “you know that.” His arm wraps around her shoulders and back, pulling her tighter against him.
“How’s your cheek,” she mumbles tiredly. She can no longer bring herself to keep her eyes open. She blames the comfort and care he always brings her so effortlessly.
“It’s fine. Don’t worry, Lieutenant.”
“Riza.”
There’s a beat of silence.
“Pardon?”
“Riza,” she breathes.
She cannot remember who crossed the line first tonight – perhaps they both did, but it is completely muddled within her memory. She doesn’t want it there between them. Not now, when she’s so comfortable and feels so cared for. Not when Roy’s fingers are combing through her hair, and she can hear his heartbeat close to her ear and feel his pulse thrum underneath her touch.
“Of course, Riza.” He grants her request so easily and quietly as he presses another kiss to the top of her head. Riza can practically hear the pleased smile that she knows must be on his face. Roy joins her on the other side of the line willingly and without hesitation. He only wanted to make sure he heard her correctly.
“I’ll always worry about you,” she adds. She curls closer into his chest and holds onto his lower back even tighter. Her fingertips increase their pressure there.
“I’m okay,” he soothes, his voice a hum underneath her ear. “You fared far worse than me.”
Riza tips her head back, exiting the cocoon of warmth they’d made between them. Blearily, she blinks up at him and notices the strained look on his face. The arm holding onto his back moves slowly and she brings it up to cup his cheek. Her thumb caresses his cheekbone, close to underneath his eye, and Roy’s eyelids flutter closed, seemingly of their own accord. That makes her smile and leaves Riza feeling pleased with herself. She can do that to him, offer that feeling to him, like he does to her.
Roy’s head turns and she grants him the space to move. With it, he presses a kiss against her palm.
“I’ll always worry about you too,” Roy admits. His fingers ghost over the bandage on her arm. Even though his touch is barely there it still tickles her skin, lifts the hairs on her arms, and makes the base of her neck tingle.
She shivers.
Roy lowers his hand to the space between them. The muscles of her stomach become painfully aware of his hand’s proximity and start to tingle. It becomes too much and Riza has to move forward, closer to him and his hand, to rid herself of the pleasant, but overwhelming feeling. The back of his hand is now pressed against the bare flesh of her abdomen.
“We have to lay low tomorrow as well.”
Riza nods in agreement. That was their orders, after all.
“We have to rest,” he stresses, and she catches onto his meaning, “to let ourselves heal.”
She smirks up at him, knowing exactly what it is he’s proposing. He was always a crafty one.
Not moving far from this bed and nursing their wounds together sounded like a wonderful plan to Riza.
Roy runs a hand up her arm to her shoulder, the backs of his fingers trailing along her skin and igniting a trail of fire beneath them, then back down again. “If the military had provided us with the appropriate facilities, like, say, a bed each, we would be able to do it apart and by ourselves. But,” he sighs heavily, exaggerating the sound, “since the military didn’t, we must make do with what we have.”
“What a shame,” Riza smiles tiredly.
“You’re stuck with me, Riza,” he chuckles. “Sorry.”
“Darn.”
“Blame the military.”
“Don’t worry, I will. They’ll receive a stern letter about the lack of facilities provided inside their safehouses from me tomorrow.” Riza yawns loudly towards the end of her sentence but Roy is already laughing. “Or maybe it will get lost in the post.” She’s pretty sure her speech is incoherent at that point. Roy’s affection has almost lulled her completely to sleep.
“Sleep well, my Queen.” He presses his lips to her forehead. “Let me know if you need any more painkillers.”
“I will,” she mumbles tiredly. “Sleep well, Roy. Thank you,” she breathes happily.
Wrapped up in his arms, clinging onto Roy tightly, Riza falls asleep feeling completely safe and cared for, and at peace.

Because you are a fantastic writer, and because I simply adore what you write, how about a continuation to the "Wukong is once again being an idiot and lying to everyone" prompt? And this is an open prompt! You can take this and go absolutely bonkers with it!
THE POWER YOU HAVE GIVEN ME SHALL NOT GO UNDERUTILIZED. This is a follow up to these two previous fills and I am just going off about what I think would be an interesting way to continue into season 3 at this point.
Warning: UH... Sun Wukong is not doing too great. Mild descriptions of his hidden injuries, Wukong is still immortal but what he hid would be very bad for people who are not.
"He's burning up," Pigsy said with a hiss as he pulled his hand away from Wukong's forehead. "Why is he burning up? What even happened to him!? He didn't look like this an hours ago, ain't he immortal-"
"Yeah, but not invincible," MK interrupted with a shake in his voice, watching as Sandy checked on his mentor's newly revealed injuries. "Not entirely anymore. He-he'll probably be fine! No, he will be fine, but he's-shit." He took in a shaky breath, trying to stand on legs that had long since fallen asleep in their awkward position holding his mentor's head off the hard floor. "I'll explain later, we need to see how bad he is now!"
He jumped, feeling a soft touch against his shoulder. Mei had knelt beside him at some point and it wasn't until she reached over to brush her thumb against his cheek that he realized he had started crying at some point.
The chef looked at him with an odd expression at MK's revelations, almost looking like he wanted to say something in anger before shaking his head and standing instead.
"You're right," he said as he turned to Sandy. He didn't need to ask the largest of the group anything, watching as he carefully scooped the Monkey King into his arms and headed off into what they had designated as "the med bay" with Tang following close by. "But you're gonna tell us exactly what that you mean by 'not entirely invincible' on the way, no more of this waitin to talk business! And we're going to walk there calmly."
MK couldn't find it in himself to argue.

"Well, shit," Pigsy sighed after MK rushed through the conversation he had shared with his mentor, pinching the bridge of his snout with a sigh. "That's... bad. That explains a whole lot about a lot of stuff, like how he managed to get himself caught on New Years, at least... You're sure he's still immortal?"
"Yeah," MK nodded, leaning into the grip Mei had on his shoulder as they walked. "Yeah, he made it a point to insist he still couldn't die."
"That's... good, right?" Mei offered with a chuckle, her usual exuberance seeming shaken up after seeing the state of the immortal monkey. "That means he'll get better!"
They paused at the entrance to the med bay, really more a spare bedroom they had stocked all the medical supplies Sandy apparently hoarded into, and MK gulped. He thought over Wukong's words, trying to find any piece he could to pick it apart. See exactly what, if anything, may have been just more half truths... he didn't want to believe he was still hiding things, not after that display of dropping the glamor. But MK himself had claimed he would explain everything to the others before... and lied still... and he was more like Sun Wukong than he first realized.
"I-I think so," he finally settled on an answer as they walked in, Sandy's back being the first sight they were greeted with. He could see the bottom half of Wukong's legs and feet, and Tang standing on the opposite side of the bed, as they were doing... something. "He said I was half invincible so... maybe he's still half himself? But he said they'd 'probably heal eventually' so..."
"Maybe he just meant they wouldn't scar!" Mei offered with a smile, moving to grip MK's hand. "Come on... we can't stop thinking about the good outcomes now..."
He turned, looking at his best friend. Her smile was off, uncertain, dark circles under her eyes from lack of sleep. None of them had slept well the last two nights. But her eyes, despite the uncertainty they shared with her smile, were as bright and hopeful as ever.
"Yeah..." MK said with a small smile.
"As much as we'd appreciate the help," Tang said suddenly, moving from behind the bed to stand before them. He had removed his scarf and robe, something that looked bizarre and wrong outside of seeing him in his sleep wear, and instead wore a simple tank top and his regular pants. He had gloves on... already spotted in red. "This room is a little cramped with all five of us and a bed."
"I'll go make us food," Pigsy said immediately, laying a hand on MK's back as he addressed Tang. "We don't gotta eat it when it's finished it's just... gonna be ready for when you're done, ok?"
MK couldn't help but smile a bit. Pigsy didn't just make food and let it sit, not normally. The only other time he could ever remember him doing that was after... DBK. After they volunteered to help clean up the city from the damage his possession caused. He'd made pots and pots of noodles and soup and plates of side dishes and buns and just kept them warm for when anyone came by to eat them. He stayed in his shop, waiting and handing out what he could.
He never once complained about the excess from the last batches, offering them for free to the first few customers the next day if they wanted it.
"Thanks, Pigsy," Tang said with a tired smile. "I think everyone is going to appreciate that."
"I'll finish the ship upkeep Sandy and I were doing," Mei offered, smiling at Sandy when he looked over his shoulder. "I've got a pretty good handle on the specifics by now."
"I trust you," Sandy said with a smile, the first thing he had said the entire time he'd joined them in the kitchen, and turned back to what he was doing.
There was an awkward silence as Tang started grabbing supplies from a cabinet to deposit on a nearby table and Pigsy and Mei turned to MK.
"I'm staying," he said firmly, but nothing could hide the shaking in his hands. "Just... I have to know how bad he is."
"OK," Pigsy said, and they made their way out before Mei turned back inside.
"When he wakes up? Give him one of these for me," she said before making a face and leaving in the opposite direction.
There was just enough of a chuckle that escaped him that MK thought he would be able to do that.
"Are you sure you want to see this?" Tang asked, far softer in tone than he had been before. "Sandy and I were already taking stock of his injuries and... MK, they're not good."
"Yeah, I'm sure," he insisted, taking in a calming breath. "I need to know exactly how angry I need to be at him."
His father figure didn't laugh, but there was amusement in his eyes as he returned back to where he was. "Alright, then you're going to need to help by handing me everything I ask for."
They settled into silence after that, and MK watched and Tang and Sandy worked to check on the unconscious immortal in the bed.
They had stripped off his robe, leaving him only in the pants he wore underneath it. He looked... he looked much worse without it on.
In addition to his eye (which seemed to have been the only hidden injury to have already healed as much as it may have) and the tear in his ear (which seemed to have at least been partly treated by himself already) his torso was littered with little cuts and scrapes. Sandy had rolled up the legs on his pants, one remaining upright and MK could see the slight swell of his knee from some kind of internal injury (probably muscular). His tail and arms were also similarly injured, one nasty gash in particular close to the end of the tail that had gotten almost as much treatment as his ear.
But on his side... there was sloppy bandaging slowly growing redder.
"Sandy, help me get this off him," Tang said, holding out his hand. "Scissors, please."
MK jolted, getting what Tang requested from the pile of stuff, watching as he carefully cut away the wrapping.
Tang winced as he finally lifted the dressing from Wukong's side, but did his model best to look as impassive as possible. There was a sizeable gash on it, large enough that Tang's entire hand barely covered it lengthwise, that had poorly treated with the lopsided gauze and bandages (probably stolen from this very room after he allowed them to treat his visible injuries). Blood had seeped through it, all fresh, and it was most likely reopened upon his fall. It looked... wrong. Not the way it should. The fur around it had been either ripped out or had fallen out and the skin was inflamed and angry.
"... no wonder he's burning up, this is becoming infected," he said evenly, detected, leaning over to look at the supplies he took from the medicine cabinet. "Sandy, I'm going to need your help moving him. MK?" He turned to the young man, face softening as he saw how pale his face had gotten at the revelations before him. "MK, I heard what you were telling Mei and Pigsy earlier. Mei's probably right, he'll be ok. OK?"
MK wanted to believe he had been, he'd been so honest after he told him to stop lying, but... but he still couldn't help but worry his mentor was still hiding more. And he felt so guilty thinking that. But he shook his head, dispelling the thoughts in his head.
"OK... what do you need?"
"Let's start with antiseptic. We need to clean this as quickly as possible."
~
It took longer than MK had hoped. And Sun Wukong had only barely stirred the entire time. Whether it was from the infectious fever or from exhaustion from using his remaining powers while sick he didn't know, but the most of a reaction they got him from was a sharp gasp and a twitch while cleaning the worst of his wounds.
Aside from that... nothing. He remained still, even as Sandy moved him without any effort and guided Tang through the medical stuff he wasn't sure how to handle.
MK knew Tang had some first aid training but this was much more than he expected him to pull off... he supposed he was learning a lot.
After a while Tang didn't need Sandy's help to move him anymore and the massive man shot MK an apologetic look before leaving. MK assumed he had left to wash up, and he did, but he eventually returned completely cleaned up with a hot cup of tea. It was the same flavor as the one he never got to finish during his conversation earlier.
He ruffled MK's hair after the young man gratefully took it, making Wukong more comfortable on Tang's instruction and pulling the covers over everything but one arm before saying something about needing to give Mei some tea as well, before leaving the three of them alone again. MK thought that, maybe, the sight of the Monkey King as he was was somehow making him... uncomfortable. No, not uncomfortable.
Sad.
He didn't say anything.
"He looked... almost fine when he saved me..." MK said after a long sip of his tea and a long silence of watching Tang handle everything else on his own, trying to squeeze his cup. Just like when he had tried before, it stayed firm. "He wasn't hurt then, not by LBD, so... he'd been keeping up those illusions since before he came. How long was he hurt?"
"There isn't really a way for us to know," Tang admitted, wrapping the fresh gauze around the king's arm as carefully as he could manage. It wouldn't have mattered if he wasn't careful, Wukong didn’t stir a bit. "It could have been hours... could have been days. With how quickly his eye healed vs his gash it's hard to tell. But my guess would be hours, given when you... when..." He trailed off, a shudder running through him. "He was actively giving you his powers, yeah? Maybe... he was giving you some of his healing abilities. Or maybe something else hurt his eye long before everything else. We just don't know."
"I think that was from Macaque," MK said with a wince, knowing he was going to have to explain more about who Macaque was eventually. "He said LBD has him under her control and he has the same injury on the opposite eye."
Tang froze for a half a second, the shine of the overhead lights on his glasses keeping Mk from seeing just what kind of expression he had. But he simply nodded, finishing up his work.
"We'll just... have to hope he'll be able to give us some better information when he wakes up," Tang said with a shrug as he removed his gloves. "This is all probably a mystery even to him... I'm going to wash up... will you be alright alone?"
"Yeah."
That was a lie, but he felt at least this one was warranted.
Because even if he wouldn't be fine he didn't want to leave.
~
It was nearly 11 hours before Sun Wukong opened his eyes again, though he didn't realize that at the time.
The morning sunlight was just barely shining through the window to the med bay, and he wondered for a moment why one of his eyes seemed to ache at the light and a tear rolled down his cheek from the strain at trying to see.
Then he remembered that he couldn't see out of it anymore. And the conversation with MK. And... passing out. In the kitchen.
This was definitely not the kitchen floor, which was bad. What he was laying on was soft and had something else laying on top of him. Which meant he had been moved to a bed.
Which meant he had been unconscious for more than a minute, which was the exact opposite of what he wanted.
He tried to move his left arm to cover his eye, but found something... holding it down. And with a little effort he moved his head, looking over to the side.
MK was slouched over on a chair, nearly face down on the blanket that covered him and holding his hand. In his other hand there was a comic book of some kind, horribly bent by his own face.
He had dark circles, much darker than he had the night before, under his eyes and there was a dried wetness on his cheeks that made Wukong's chest hurt at the sight.
He'd messed up... again. He shouldn't have held up the illusion, not for that long. He should have let it fall the moment they hit the drone and been honest instead of insisting that he go on his new Journey to the West on his own. Or at least let it fall the next day, when they questioned why he was so tired. So quiet. Why he was so still and wasn't running around the ship like they expected (the pulled muscle in his knee, which he very much noticed was tightly compressed by either a sleeve or a wrap, being the main culprit along side... that injury).
He sighed, doing his best to remove his hand from his student's carefully before gently resting it on his head and ruffling the hair there.
"...'m sorry, MK," He said tiredly. "No more secrets, I promise."
"You better mean that promise you asshole."
Wukong yelped and jumped, yelping again when it sent a jolt of pain down his side. "YOu're AwAKe!?"
MK sat up, almost smiling at the way his mentor sounded but holding it back. "Yeah... I kinda passed out after a while, but I woke up like... an hour ago? I've just been trying to get as much rest as I can, even if I'm not actually sleeping."
"That's... good," Wukong said with a nod, the way MK described the time frame feeling familiar. "So you saw... everything?"
"Everything."
"Well, shit."
"That's exactly what Pigsy said when I told him what happened," Mk said with a chuckle, reading over to grab a packet of some kind and a glass of water. "Tang gave me very specific instructions to make you take all of this. Or else."
"Or else... what?" Wukong chanced, raising an eyebrow.
"I dunno, I always took the medicine he gives me with that threat so I never got to find out," MK shrugged. "Pigsy says it's not worth finding out."
"I'll take his word for it," Wukong said with a sigh. It was probably best to take whatever it was regardless of threats, he could feel his fever still and he did not want to keep having to fight that off. So he took the medicine, a mixture of pills and some kind of powder MK mixed into his drink that made it taste oddly way too sweet and sour at the same time, and sighed as he closed his eyes again for a moment.
They sat in silence for only a minute before he spoke again.
"Your friends... did all this?" He gestured to himself, reaching up to feel the odd dressing on his ear.
"Tang and Sandy did," MK explained, and went on to tell him what happened. How they treated him. How Pigsy had food waiting for him now that he was awake. How MK stayed by his side just in case.
"Oh, and Mei wanted me to give you this," MK said before pausing, glowering at him in a way that looked odd on his student's face but probably would have looked horrifying on Mei.
"Oh... I made her that mad huh?"
"I think everyone is kinda angry at you to some degree," MK admitted before holding his mentor's hand again. "But... mostly we were worried. You're my mentor, and a part of our little group now. That's what we do. Worry about each other."
Sun Wukong felt another tear slip out of his injured eye, but not from strain.
It had been so long since anyone... worried about him.
He didn't know how much he missed knowing he was cared about like that.

I feel like any of the demon boys would be very dangerous if they got possessive jealousy but like yandere them getting possessive jealous would be on a whole level worse. What do you think? Hc? Scenarios?
Hehehehhehehehehehe I've been waiting for a Yandere ask!  Thank you so much anon!!
Also, these are getting long so imma post them in parts.
here is Lucifer's and Mammon's
Yandere Bros get possessive/Jealous
GN Mc
TW: Yandere content, violence
  Lucifer.
He rarely gets jealous, demons tend to stay away from what he claims as his.  But when he gets jealous, he makes it known.  His demon form is out, wings on full display as he approaches with calm, collected steps.  His face screams murder with eyes narrow and sharp, the aura around him is pitch black as he places his arm around your shoulder.
"I suggest you start explaining why you bothering my dearest."
His voice is a deep rumbling growl.  The demon in front of you starts to back away in fear.  Who wouldn't?  Everyone knows what he does to Mammon, and that's Lucifer being gentle.
"I-I-I didn't know they were-"  Lucifer's eyes get sharper as his wings puff up more.  He reaches for the demon's neck, yanking them off the ground, their feet kick as they panic.
"Didn't know what?  That they're mine?"  The other demon gulps, panic, and regret in their eyes.  They look at you begging you to help them.  Please, call him off their eyes scream.  Lucifers growls deepen.  "Did I say you could LOOK at them!"  His grip crushes the demons windpipe, if they were human they would have been killed.
"I'm going to pluck your eyes out then, rip out your tongue and teeth one by one, and if you think I'm stopping there then you-"
"Lucifer, my dear friend what seems to be the problem here."  The boisterous voice of Diavolo cuts through the hall.  Lucifer carelessly drops the demon.  You flinch as they gasp for air, taking in deep gulps.  Diavolo surveys the scene with his big flashy grin and nods.
"I see, someone tired to take your darling." Diavolo tuts looking down at the perpetrator with a sadistic grin.  He then looks back at you his grin gets impossibly bigger, with a whimper you bury your face in Lucifer's chest.  His arms wrap around you instantly, pulling you even closer he hums in approval as you shakily hold on to him.
Diavolo smiles at the lover's embrace reminded of his own darling.  With a dreamy sigh, he picks the demon up by the back of their shirt and drags them behind him.  He stops and pats Lucifer on the shoulder and whispers.
"Bring your beloved with you tomorrow for tea, my love has been asking about their dear friend and refuses to settle down about it."  He sighs thinking about his love.  "and while they talk we can enjoy some special entertainment."  He gives the passed out demon a shake.  "What do you say to that?"  Lucifer's grin matches Diavolov's.
Simply put Lucifer is the kind of yandere who is cruel and sadistic to others but not his darling.  He wants them to love him and trust him.  Make them think he's the only one they can turn to when they're in danger.
He will gaslight his darling until they only trust him, they'll seek him out for help, whether it be classes, or other demons bothering them it doesn't matter.
He'll also treat them as a child.  Your classes are too hard?  Well of course they are there for wise demons, not simple humans like yourself.  Feeling stressed and overwhelmed from everything?  Here sit on his lap and he'll hold you for a bit, don't worry about your tasks or his brothers.  You obviously can't handle them, they're too much for a little human-like yourself.
If you think Diavolo is going to save you your wrong, he's quite happy Lucifer's found a darling of his own and is more than happy to withdraw you from RAD and let Lucifer, have you.  Sure, you can still go to RAD but Diavolo just has you sit in his office with his own darling.  Barbados babysitting you both as Diavolo is a busy demon lord and all.
Lucifer doesn't really want you to befriend anyone else but, Diavolo is persistent that his darling and Lucifer's become friends.
His overall goal is to have you dependent on him that way you walk into his cage willingly.
Mammon.
He doesn't get jealous, he loves the attention you bring him, one could say he's greedy for it.  However, its a look but don't touch kind of thing he made that clear at one of his modeling gigs
"Hey, smile treasure, we got others watchin ."  He mumbled in your ear giving it a kiss.  "I want everyone to see how nice and shiny my treasure is."  You grumbled as he dragged you around the party, laughing and talking with other demons.  They all stared at you with smokey eyes, gestured at you with manicured claws, and smiled with perfectly shaded lips.
Mammon sat down on a sofa and pulled you down on top of him while he grinned down at you, you sighed and nestled into him.  he'd throw a tantrum if you didn't play the part of loving darling.
All the other demons cooed and fawned over you asking you to look their way causing Mammon to laugh. "My treasure is just shy, aren't ya?"  You nodded, face still buried in his neck, he laughed once more and talked with the other demons until he suddenly sighed.
"Hey treasure, I need to get up, some magazine editor wants ta talk to me."  He easily maneuvered you off his lap and got up, giving you a quick kiss.  "Don't miss me too much treasure~" Mammon then disappeared into the crowd.
"Well aren't you a beautiful diamond."  One of the she-devils said sitting down next to you crossing her long legs shamelessly looking you up and down.
You grumbled in discomfort and moved away from her looking around for Mammon.  If you had to deal with a demon you would rather deal with the one you knew.  "Awww come now darling don't be like that," She placed her hand on your face forcing you to look at her.  "I just want to get a nice long look at you."
"Let go."  You slapped her had away, where was Mammon?  You wanted to go home you're tired and had you still had homework to do.  "Mamm-"  The she-devil grabbed your face and yanked you her way, her perfect black claws digging into your face.  The other demons around you falling silent.
"I'll have you know pet I don't take kindly to being denied."  She hissed digging her claws into your cheeks.  "When I want something I get it!" Her claws cut into your face, blood running down your face and covering her hand.  "Awww now see what you made me do?  I ruined that adorable little face."
"Ruth, let the human go."  Another demon said a look of terror on his face.  You recognized him, Mammon works with him often what's his name again? Ifrit or something?  Ruth rolled her beautiful smokey eyes.
"If you want a pet, go find your own Ifrit this one is-"
"Mine."  Mammon's voice boomed, ripping Ruth's hand off you.  She looked up in horror and Mammon met her with a snarl.  "Did ya really think ya could touch the Great Mammon's treasure?"  Mammon griped her wrist until it snapped, Ruth screamed grabbing at him trying to force him to let go.
"I didn't know they were your's Mammon!  I sware I didn't know!"  Mammon rolled his eyes at the pathetic display, of course, only when he was angry would demons remember he was the second born of his brothers.  None the less, he let the she-devil go, watching her tumble to the ground in pain.
"Ya lucky I'm in front of my treasure, I don't want them to fear me as you all should."  He said fixing his sleave.
"Mammon,"  you whimpered grabbing your cheek, Ruth's claws dug in dipper than you thought.  The blood just kept coming.
"Yes, tres-"  His eyes went wide as he saw the blood seep through your hands.  "Treasure!  What happened to ya?!" He ran to you gently taking your hand off your face.  "Here, here let me see, its ok treasure I need to see how deep the cuts are.  There, there that's a good treasure."  He sighed in relief, the cuts weren't that bad but they must have stung like hell.  He placed kisses all over your bloody cheeks. "There all better right?"  Mammon pulled back smiling, your blood dusted his lips.
"Ifrit, do me a favor, take my treasure outside."  Mammon glared at Ruth.  "I've got something to take care of.  If ya do well, I'll put in a good word with Diavolo and see to it ya get a darlin of your own."  Ifrit nodded and carefully dragged you out, the screams of Ruth ringing out behind you.
When Mammon returned he was in demon form, the only thing off about him was the blood caked in his hair.  He smiled and hugged you dismissing Ifrit with a wave of his hand.  "Its all right treasure, she won't hurt ya ever again."  He smirked.  "and trust me, after what I did to her no demon will ever touch ya again."  He pressed a kiss to your lips, you could taste the blood on them, the funny thing was that you couldn't tell if the blood you tasted was yours or Ruth's.
Hcs.
Mammon is truly one of the sweetest yanderes you can get in Devildom.  Between Constant kisses and gifts, you'll be well cared for.  not to mention he's also slow to anger.  Normally.
He likes the attention you bring him, he'll buy you anything you ask for if it means you'll be with him.
He won't isolate you but he will keep you on a tight leash, his arms are around you every time you head out. Kisses are given whenever some demon gazes at you too long.
You're dragged to all the parties held by other demons in the modeling business.  These parties are mainly to show off darlings, Asmo even accompanies Mammon to some of these events.
Mammon needs to feel needed by his darling that's why he spends so much money on them.  If they need him they can't leave him.
I wouldn't push him though, one escape attempt and you'll be sitting pretty on his hoard for years to come.

True Form- Mammon
The boys are cute in their devil forms I’ll give them that. But I want something more monstrous lol. Here are some headcannons of mine of what the boyos look like outside of their glamours.
I’m not doing the gang in any particular order, all will be accounted for in due time. Just my favorites come first :p
No, I regret nothing and yes I would still 10000% smooch the monster.
Next up: Asmodeus
Mammon
- Interestingly enough, his human glamour shows none of the wounds he bears from the celestial war. But his true form? It is a testament to his strength and a stark reminder that he is the second strongest of the cardinal sins.
- Mammon takes the shape of a great winged beast. The original number of his wings have been lost to time but old records speak of ever shifting numbers. Should he lose one two would grow in it’s place type deal. All that remains of their splendor are three mismatched ones on his back. Since they are not even he is incapable of flying, but he can still glide for quite some distance and with tremendous speed.
- He resembles a mixture of a crow and Strix. He has four large taloned feet that can carve through rock and slice though even demon flesh with ease. His multitude of eyes are bright and simply mesmerizing. Like the twinkling of stars in the night sky. His eyes are the only physical trait left of him from his time as an angel.
- Old scars pepper his hide under his oily sheen feathers. When he shifts they flash the briefest hints of silver and faded pink. But, the most noticeable wound on him is his beak. The upper mandible is broken, the front half blasted away leaving behind a jagged mess of bone. The magic used against him makes it impossible for him to regrow it. He remembers clearly the blow that marred him. It is one of his recurring nightmares.
- He keeps a den, hidden from the other brothers deep in the Devildom forests where he hoards all his most precious items from over the millennia. Whenever things get too much at home he will come here to lay amongst his treasures and reminisce of simpler times.
Mini fic
Mammon could feel the need brewing deep within him. The gnawing emptiness slowly eroding at his psyche till it was all-encompassing. His brothers possessions calling to him like a sirens song day in and day out. Goldie simply wasn’t going to be enough this time. He needed his cave, his little sanctuary, carved out in secret so many years ago.
He sighs lovingly. Just imagining the feel of currencies from empires long since fallen and priceless treasures offered to him in sacrifice under his talons feet was euphoric. His second skin ripples under his glamour in anticipation. Humming under his breath, Mammon takes the steps to the main door two at a time. In his excitement, he almost collides with the latest item of his attention.
“Oi!” He barks, skidding to a halt in front of you. He makes a grab for your shoulders stopping you before you toppled down the flight of stairs.  He can’t help the smile forming on his lips to match yours. His human looks up from the files overflowing in their arms. The emptiness inside rattles its cage. Add them to the horde. His molars crack under the strain of his clenched jaw.
“Oh! Sorry, Mammon! It’s kinda hard to see around all this.” You smile sheepishly, scooting off to the side for him to pass. “Are you well?” You notice his stiff posture, hands clenching, and unclenching over your school uniform. He hadn’t let you go yet.
Unsurprising really, he was one of the clingier brothers. Not that you minded. It was nice sometimes to feel so wanted. Though it was different this time. You could feel the ebb and flow of his magic rippling in the close space. Usually, he had the best control suppressing it in your company. It would have been terrifying if it had been another one of the brothers. Last time one of them ‘lost their cool’ had ended badly for you. “Mammon?”
“What?” He twitches, head jerking to an odd angle. His eyes turn sharp as he looks at you appraisingly. Hungrily. “Oh right, sorry.” The demon releases you. “I’m fine, just need to stretch my legs is all.” He pushes past, for once trying not to give into temptation.
“Can I join? I need a break from all this paperwork. I know I said I’d help Lucifer, but damn.” You laugh placing the stack down on an end table. He chokes on the idea. Yesss~ his inner beast coos in delight. You were making this too easy. He could keep you all to himself, tucked away where no one else could have you. Lucifer would never know.
“I-I don’t want the company.” He grits out, rolling his shoulders in agitation. At himself or you, only the devil would know. “Ain’t a place for little humans.” His response is short and sharp. He could feel his talons growing under his nail beds. Mammon hisses in irritation, he didn’t want to scare you away. Not after everything else you’ve been through.
“Oh…” It hurts him to hear you so dejected like this. Perhaps- you had handled a lot so far. One more thing won’t kill you.
“Look-promise not to tell and you can join.” Mammon turns scratching at his neck. "I don't need my brothers knowing where I go. Our little secret?"
“Our little secret.” You take his hand with a coy grin.
It wasn’t a long walk. It was pleasant your warm hand wrapped in his. The connection quelled some of the avarice brewing inside. He approaches the edge of the cliff with satisfaction. The precipice looks down into the wilds of the Devildom. It was a beautiful sight really. The heavy gloam of eternal twilight cast a purple haze over the treetops. In the distance, the downtown district twinkle. Mammon exhales happily into the breeze. The wind was picking up. Good.
Mammon turns to you taking in your apprehension. You lean over the side, looking down into the abyss. "This isn't much of a walk." You chuckle nervously eyeing the deadly drop. A strong gush upsets your balance. Squeaking, you grip onto his sleeve. Your little human nails dig into the leather of his jacket. Cute.
"Not done yet." He sheds his glasses and coat folding them neatly by the ledge. "It ain't much farther, but it is a ride." He could shred the pants and shirt. Luci owed him a new wardrobe as is. Stretching his arms over his head he grunts. His remaining wings practically vibrate in anticipation. "Promise not to scream?"
"Scream?" Your question is lost in the ruffle of feathers and creak of bone. You gasp back away from the massive beast in front of you. Mammon stood beside you, his body almost blending in with the darkness around you. Dozens of eyes blink owlishly at you, they glimmer like diamonds. They are bright and breathtaking, the depth in them almost sucking you in. He clicks the remnants of his razor-sharp beak expectantly. "Mammon?" You approach, palms outstretched.
He cocks his head to almost disappearing into the night as he closes all his eyes at your touch. He adjusts himself as you pet down his large head. Overly carful of where your hand was to make sure you are not in danger of cutting yourself with his damaged beak. "How many more layers to you brothers are there?" He laughs in relief, cawing loudly as you bury your hands in his feathers. "Ok. So what's the plan?"
Mammon crouches low bumping his shoulder to you. You take the hint and clamber onto his broad back. Shifting awkwardly he squawks as you pull some feathers. “Sorry! Sorry!” He turns and pecks at your hand gently. Pulling at your sleeves, he makes sure you have a good grip at the base of his neck. Feeling you settle he leaps.
Bounding for the ledge, his strong wings flex and catch the wind. He glides on the gust with practiced ease. Years of plummeting and failure made this success all the sweeter with you there as he carries them higher. He could feel your laughter through his body. Your shouts of elation get swallowed by the howling around them. Oh, how he revels in it. He wants more of this.
The flight was quick. Before long he descends, unfurling his legs as he lands. Long talons cut into stone as he grasps the side of the cliff. Effortlessly he slinks up the side. The hard coils of muscle on his back and legs bunch and pull under you body. The sinuous roll of it causes you to grip him tighter lest you fall off. He purrs at the feel of you clinging to him. Perhaps he should keep you here, all to himself. Mammon reaches his destination and allows you to slide off of him to look about.
The mouth of the cave was cast in heavy shadows from surrounding trees. The moon covered by clouds flashing briefs glimpses of deeper in. You follow as the Great Mammon lumbers past you to delve deeper.  Jogging after him, you place a hand on his flank trusting him to guild you. What did he have here? This looks nothing like a place Mammon would go to. He chirps and caws trying to talk though it was impossible to understand as he lead you down deeper. His tail swooshing excitedly behind him. It was sweet, his palpable joy rubbing off on you.
As you reach the inner depth of the cave you left go of him to shield your eyes. The sudden light accosting you. The inner cave was huge, eternal sconces lighting as he entered to reflect off of a dazzling array of items. Mammon crows smugly leaving you to gape at the entrance.
The demon crawls into a nest made of gold and bolts of expensive fabrics.  Yawning widely, he wiggles himself deeper into the coins. Large crystalline eyes drooping pleasantly at the warmth of his cave. While he dozes you walk around the large treasure trove. You run your hands over no doubt priceless jewels and sets of armor. Clothes and jewelry litter the floor as maps and pieces of art cover most of the walls and ceiling. Their golden frames glowing from the light of the sconces making the space glow richly. He even had some tomes stacked neatly in the corner, each cover embossed with gold and silver. You pick one up intrigued by the design of the cover.
"You sure you were a dragon in a former life? " You ask flipping though a few pages before putting it back. Mammon snorts rolling his eyes. You grin eyeing his bed of treasures. "Can I join you?" It looked rather comfy and he obviously wasn't going to be moving anytime soon. Knowing Mammon there was no way you could leave this place without his help. So might as well get comfortable.
Mammon is silent for a moment before clicking his beak, wings opening to invite you in. You scramble up close grabbing a few stray pillows as you go. Making a mini nest of your own beside him you tuck yourself in.
If a bird could smile he would be beaming at the feel of your body resting against his feathered side. Draping a wing over you he settles in for a nap.
Yes, you would be the perfect final piece to his collection.

︵︵︵︵︵︵︵︵︵︵︵︵︵
"do you even like me?" this is the part where he hurts you. you wouldn't say you had strong feelings for yeonjun but you did think he was good looking. even though he was mostly mean to everyone you hoped he would change and be a good link to the tiny group you all formed.
"i think so, i don't really know yet to be honest," he answers you. you nod and sigh, satisfied with his answer towards you for now. "sorry for what i said earlier. you weren't being childish, i'm sorry i couldn't help you back then, and im sorry for starting that fight."
you reassure him that its fine but you still feel a weird pit in your stomach worrying about beomgyu. you hope he's ok.
after your little moment with yeonjun in the janitor's closet, you and yeonjun decided it's best to just not talk about it. you figured it's best to just leave that where it happened. you weren't sure how the incident would affect the group dynamic but you hoped yeonjun wouldn't bring it up to anyone.
you didn't even have strong feelings for him either so you felt like it wasn't that big of a deal. apparently, yeonjun didn't seem to have strong feelings for you either but you knew his persona. he would probably hold it over everyone else in the group like some kind of weird achievement.
you both stepped out of the janitor's closet with caution. there seemed to not be any zombies located in the hall you were located at. they must've all migrated elsewhere in the school to find more victims to consume. after surveying the hall for any threats, yeonjun nods back at you. you step out and let out a breath.
"where to?" yeonjun asks. the only place you could think of to go to was back to the principal's office. there were no threats there and it's where taehyun and soobin were located. well you hoped they were there. you told them not to follow you but you weren't sure if they had listened to you. it would only make sense for them to not more and stay in a relatively safe space like the principal's office.
"taehyun and soobin are at the principal's office," you mumble. you're already on your way there when yeonjun suddenly gains speed, rushing more ahead than you. "hey!" you shout in alarm. not loud enough to alert anything that may be near but just loud enough to catch yeonjun's attention. you weren't about to be left in the dust to anything lurking in the darkness behind you again.
yeonjun doesn't give you the time of the day, simply chuckling at your previous statement. you rush after him, not really sure about his newfound attitude.
once you both arrive at the principal's office, yeonjun slams the door open with more force than you thought he possessed. your eyes widen at how he seems to not care about the fact that you guys are supposed to be laying low. you start to grow angry at how irrational he can be. "yeonj-"
"you fucking asshole!" yeonjun growls, cutting you off. on the floor of the office are taehyun and soobin. the baseball team's equipment and all the contents of the first aid kit are littered all over the floor. they seemed to have been looking over the supplies you all have gathered over the past hour. taehyun stares up at yeonjun with alarm written all over his face over how loud he's being. soobin looks up at yeonjun bewilderingly, not anticipating his presence.
"dude-" soobin starts. yeonjun cuts him off with a solid punch to the jaw. you stand by the door in shock at what's happening. you figured yeonjun would've learned from past experience not to make a commotion by fighting but of course, you can't expect too much from him.
soobin holds his jaw in disbelief but quickly recovers, retaliating with a strike of his own. both boys start to go at it with each other in a matter of seconds. you swear every time with them is like a flash of deja vu. this time won't be like the last though, you're not getting split up like last time and you know if they keep fighting they may alert anything that could be out there.
you see taehyun scramble to gather up everything on the floor so that nothing gets damaged from the tussle happening just inches from him. you know that he's very limited as to what he can and cannot do, so you know he wouldn't opt for breaking up the fight with an injured hand. comparing your strength to that of soobin's or yeonjun's leaves you with no option. you wouldn't possibly be able to break up a fight between them, they're way too into the zone.
you catch a glimpse of the gun soobin had used on you and taehyun when you both first arrived at the office. you run towards it's spot on the floor and grab it. when you stand back up, you point the gun towards the two boys on the floor. "hey!" you shout. you really hope nothing outside heard you but you hope it's loud enough to catch both of their attention. you manage to catch taehyun's attention who's staring at you wide eyed.
"what the hell are you doing!" he says worriedly. you ignore him, cocking the gun back. it makes a loud click noise that reverberates throughout the room. the two boys on the floor stop fighting to stare up at you with alarm. soobin who is on top of yeonjun takes his hands off yeonjun's neck to hold them up in surrender. he looks like a lost puppy and you want to coo at him but decide against it. you wave the gun to indicate for him to get off yeonjun and he complies silently. you then point the gun at yeonjun who scrambles to kneel on his knees. he too holds his hands up in surrender and when you wave the gun for him to shuffle further away from soobin he complies.
"im not gonna shoot either of you," you assure. you hear taehyun let out a breath of relief. you weren't that dumb, you knew that shooting the gun would cause an extremely loud sound that would attract anything even just in the area. plus, you wouldn't shoot anyone on your team.
"just stop fucking fighting for once!" you exasperate. you drop the gun, walking around the room. both soobin and yeonjun are still in their respective positions, so you take that as a sign to continue. "we're living through whatever this is, together! you both are being selfish by fighting with each other. it's not just about you both but me! and taehyun!" you purse your lips looking between yeonjun and soobin.
"if you would've kept fighting who knows what could've been just around the corner. we would've been done," you say sternly. "yeonjun you should know this already since it's because of your fight with beomgyu that we got split up in the first place!"
"if you wanna keep fighting take it out into the halls and get eaten by those zombies but don't put taehyun and i in danger because of whatever it is that's going on between you two," you finish off by sighing. you're glad you got that off your chest because it was really starting to bother you. so far every problem you've encountered was started off by a fight of some sort and you really hoped it would stop.
you walk up to taehyun and sit near him to cool down. up until now, you'd say he was the most level headed out of the group. after a beat of silence, soobin is the first to speak up, "im sorry." you're not sure who he's apologizing to. yeonjun? you and taehyun? you frankly don't care enough to ask. yeonjun says nothing as he stands up to sit somewhere. he folds his arms over his chest like a child who hasn't got his way. "what now?"
taehyun speaks up this time. "i think if there's a chance to find anyone else we should, we have to do at least one more round of the school just in case." you nod along to his statement. there could be a possibility of someone still alive out there. soobin shakes his head, "hell no, there's no way there are people still alive. by this point, there's probably a whole hoard of zombies out there. there's absolutely no way anyone is alive."
"we have to try," you encourage. "i'm willing to take a chance," taehyun adds. you see yeonjun roll his eyes. "is there a problem with that plan?" you ask in a challenging tone.
he shrugs, "nope, there are no problems. im in," he sighs, looking up at you through his lashes. this time you roll your eyes. you can't believe you actually kissed him before, he's unbearable. you turn to soobin, who looks unsure.
"come on soobin, if you go solo at this point you're for sure going to die. i don't want that," you say lightly. you really don't want that, you don't want anyone that you've met so far to die. it would haunt you forever.
taehyun and yeonjun frown at your statement but you don't notice. all of your attention is on soobin. he looks up at you and he swears he can see a halo above your head, "fine i'll go with you. who knows you might need my help?" he smirks at you. at this, you finally laugh your first genuine laugh of the day which feels refreshing.
taehyun clears his throat which cuts off your little moment. "we're gonna be helping each other ok?" you look over to him and he looks a bit annoyed. you make a mental note to talk to him later to see what's on his mind. "y/n is a priority to me," soobin shrugs. you don't pick up on the implications his statement has but taehyun and yeonjun seem to. before you can think deeper about what that could mean, soobin adds, "it's just because they seem like the glue this team needs."
"bullshit," yeonjun says under his breath. soobin chuckles, turning to look back at yeonjun who's sitting nonchalantly at the principal's desk, "there you go saying shit under your breath again."
"what about it?" yeonjun challenges. soobin is about to stand up when taehyun gets in front of his frame to stop him. "just stop," he says calmly. you know he's irritated just by the way he's looking at soobin. you seriously think he has some prior beef with the purple-haired boy.
"let's just go survey the school then get the hell out of here and find some help," taehyun deadpans. you watch him pick his book bag up from the floor and shove the first aid kit in it. everyone takes this as the hint to get up and get a move on.
before leaving the safety of the principal's office, you all check around to see if there's anything that could be of use. of course there's nothing except for the gun soobin found prior to your arrival. you decide to let him keep it since he seems capable enough of wielding it. taehyun gives you and yeonjun some gear and metal bats for defense. you all also check yourselves in case any of you need medical assistance. since soobin and yeonjun got into that fight earlier you patch both of them up quickly.
"ok we ready?" taehyun asks. you all nod and yeonjun is the first to step out into the hall. he first sticks his head out to check if the coast is clear and when he confirms it is, he completely steps out. "this is weird but im not complaining," he shrugs. you do find it a bit off that there aren't any zombies in your hall but don't dwell on it.
"we should still keep our guard up," soobin says, walking ahead of the group. he and yeonjun walk a little further while you and taehyun straggle behind. you take this opportunity to catch up with him. "hey whats up?"
he smiles at you but it fades as soon as it appears. "i know i said all that but what if we don't find anyone? what if beomgyu is dead? what if we're just walking straight to our deaths?" he rambles. he's not speaking loud enough for the other two boys to hear. you nod, "well if we die, we died trying? we're gonna find beomgyu though and we're gonna find another living person. we're gonna make it out of here alive taehyun, we've got each other," you reassure.
he smiles, nodding at the ground. you see his smile fall once again, "where did you go earlier when you left?" damn it, you hoped he would just forget about that. "i was worri- soobin and i were pretty worried that we wouldn't ever see you again, but we stayed put in case you came back."
you bite your lip trying to find the best way to phrase what happened between you and yeonjun. you're not sure why you're trying to hide it, it's not like taehyun really meant anything to you other than someone who you didn't want dying. "well i was just walking and i ran into yeonjun. we talked for a bit and just went back to the principal's office."
well it's not like you're lying to him. you're just not saying the complete truth.
"you should be careful around yeonjun...and soobin too," taehyun warns. you raise your brow at this. up until now taehyun had been pretty passive around the other boys but for him to be trying to steer you away from them raises some questions. "why?" you ask.
"i just feel like they have bad intentions towards you...i don't know. they might want to sacrifice us to stay alive," taehyun mumbles. "plus i don't like how close soobin gets to you, it feels weird."
you look at him surprised. "soobin is a good guy. i know he gets into a lot of fights but he's kind. please don't worry too much." taehyun rolls his eyes at your naivety but says nothing else. you grab his hand for extra encouragement but don't notice how he gets choked up at your sudden touch.
"we'll be ok."
"what are you guys doing back there?" yeonjun calls out. you see him and soobin eyeing your intertwined hands. yeonjun narrows his eyes and pokes his tongue through his cheek. soobin has his lips pursed. "someone needed a pep talk!" you joke. you pull taehyun along to catch up with them, your hands still intertwined.
"uh huh..." yeonjun breathes. soobin says nothing, simply walking away silently.
in that moment you all suddenly hear someone yell out in pain. soobin stops in his tracks and all your eyes widen. "it came from the boy's bathroom!" soobin exclaims. you all run off in that direction. when you arrive you all run to where the stalls are and see someone on the floor with a zombie on top of them. "SOMEONE PL-PLEASE HELP!" the person yells.
taehyun lets go of you to run towards the zombie and the person. the zombie is snarling and snapping at the person while they scream out wildly. taehyun takes out his bat from behind him and swings it just at the perfect angle to send the zombie's head flying to the nearby wall. it's blood spurts out all other the person on the floor and some of it gets on taehyun. he visibly cringes as the body slumps over whoever is on the floor.
taehyun uses his bat to move the undead body. it's inner limbs slide off the person and taehyun's jaw drops.
"b-beomgyu?"
everyone unfreezes at that moment to rush over to his side. he's still on the ground and he looks traumatized with fear. his eyes are wide open and his lips are parted and chapped. his eyes dart to you and he suddenly breaks out into shaken sobs. "h-h-help m-me," he says in between sobs.
your heart is beating rapidly and you're not really sure what to do. too many things are happening at once. you run your eyes over his frame and notice that he's holding his wrist tightly. it's quite bloody, a little too bloody for your liking and a sinking feeling grows within you.
"b-beomgyu? beomgyu? a-are you ok?" you say shakily. nobody is really sure what to do so you motion to taehyun to hand you the first aid kit. you look up at yeonjun and taehyun, "could you guys guard the door while i see what's wrong. soobin please help me, i wanna lean him against the wall."
they all nod, yeonjun and taehyun take their positions at the door while soobin helps you situate beomgyu by the wall. here you can look over him properly. his breathing is shallow and his eyes are only fixated on you. "y/n be careful," soobin warns. you bring your hand up to his fluffy hair which is untamed and all over the place now. you use the same hand to wipe off some blood from his face.
"i-i think- i think-" beomgyu tries to speak but he seems to be in shock. anyone would be at this point. it reminds you of the situation you were in earlier. "please breathe," you say. you hope you sound calm but you know your voice is shaky.
he winces as he tightens his hold on his wrist. "beomgyu w-what happened to your wrist?" you ask. you don't really want to know at this point but you ask anyway.
"i- i- think i got b-bit," he says painfully.
more tears start to fall from his face now that he's said it out loud. you see soobin reach for his gun and your eyes widen. you grab soobin's arm to stop him and he jolts back. "h-he's bit," soobin mumbles in fear. beomgyu shakes his head violently as if he can't believe it himself.
"w-wait no i-im not bit i-i swear! i j-just th-think!" he removes his hand from his wrist and you gasp in horror. soobin's jaw drops too. beomgyu's wrist has incredibly deep teeth marks that almost go all the way through. there's blood gushing from the wound and pale veins run up his arm.
soobin swiftly backs away from beomgyu, standing up and pulling the gun from his back pocket. beomgyu looks up at soobin with tears streaming down his face and his lip is trembling violently at the sight of the weapon. you throw yourself in front of beomgyu's resting body on the ground. "NO!" you yell.
you hear beomgyu behind you poorly try to muffle his cries, "i- i- don't wanna die please."
"soobin," you warn. "y/n h-he's bit. he's gonna turn if i don't kill him. would you rather him be a living dead?" he motions the gun to the side indicating for you to move but you don't budge. there are now tears streaming down your face. you don't wanna see your friend get shot right in front of your face.
"what's going on in there? is beomgyu ok?" you hear taehyun yell from the entrance. soobin bites his lip contemplating on whether or not to snitch. you shake your head slowly. you don't want everyone being wary of beomgyu's current state. yeonjun for sure will want to kill beomgyu and taehyun will probably agree to it because he's scared.
"b-butterfly knife," beomgyu mumbles weakly. you turn to look at him and he looks really drained. you don't know how long it takes for someone to transform but you hope it's not quick. "w-what?" you lean into him. "y/n don't get close to him like that!" soobin warns, getting closer to beomgyu while holding the gun out.
"c-cut it o-off," beomgyu suggests. you and soobin share a look of surprise. cut it off? that could work and stop it from spreading to his entire body but cutting off someone's hand was something neither of you has ever had to do. you think you'd throw up seeing that much blood.
"i-" beomgyu breathes out. "i trust you." he uses his free hand to take the knife out from his pocket. he was carrying a knife this whole time? now that you think about you do remember he was using one in the hallway before this all started. "b-but i never- i nev-" your eyes widen when beomgyu uses his little bit of energy to launch himself forward to kiss you.
it doesn't last long since soobin immediately shoves him back to the wall. "don't do that," soobin says assertively. this time he presses the gun directly onto beomgyu's skull. "i-if i turn i h- i hope i bite y-you first," beomgyu spits. soobin rolls his eyes, "one bullet and you're gone, don't test me."
"soobin please just move," you sigh. you look at beomgyu pitifully. he looks like shit and you hope that if you all get out of this, that he gets proper medical help. "d-don't look a-at me like that," he chuckles forcefully. he doesn't seem ashamed of the kiss, he must not care because he figures he's going to die in a couple of minutes.
you say nothing as you wrap a band around his arm tightly. you grimace as you tightening it causes it to gush out more blood. you see beomgyu trying not to scream out in pain. "i-its gotta be tight, im sorry," you explain. he just nods.
you open the bottle of alcohol and messily pour it over the wound, causing it to string. "s-shit!" beomgyu yells out. "im sorry," you mumble. you take the numbing cream out of the kit and bite your lip. the bottle is too small, it won't possibly cover the entire wounded area.
you try your best to cover it as much as possible but you know he's still going to feel a bit of it. "you're gonna need to bite on something, it's gonna hurt."
you send soobin to fetch you a toilet paper roll. there's not much toilet paper on it so you figure it'll fit in his mouth. "its the best we can do," you place the toilet paper roll between his lips gently and he immediately bites down on it. he makes a noise of acknowledgment.
just then yeonjun runs back into the bathroom. "what the fuck is g-" his jaw drops at the sight of beomgyu's wound and you holding a knife to his wrist. "h-he's bit?" he whispers. you shake your head, not wanting to talk at this moment. you don't want beomgyu to get worked up again by being constantly reminded that he's gotten bit.
(now that im reading over this it could be potentially triggering, just skip over this! don't worry it's just cutting his hand off! to save the details)
you place the blade to beomgyu's wrist and he sucks in a breath. "i-it'll be over soon," you assure. tears are freely falling from your eyes just like beomgyu although his are more furious. soobin flinches himself as you start to cut. yeonjun turns away, walking back towards the entrance to save himself from seeing that. he also warns taehyun not to inside if he doesn't wanna see that.
beomgyu is shrieking madly but it's muffled by the toilet paper. his body is thrashing wildly from the contact of the blade through his body. it's foreign and it hurts, he doesn't like it. you take this as your cue to go quicker to save him from the excruciating pain.
(end of scene if you skipped!)
it takes a couple of minutes but you finally manage to amputate beomgyu's hand. you don't know how you managed to hold back the bile in your throat but you did. soobin had to step out due it being too much to handle so you were now left alone with a very drained beomgyu. he was staring at you with a dazed look.
he didn't seem to have turned so you figure he's ok for the most part, he just needs time to recover from the shock of having his hand cut off. you've wrapped it in so many bandages that you think he probably can't even feel it at that point.
"this might be a stupid question but how do you feel?" you ask.
he smiles at you weakly. "at least im not dead," he jokes. you smile lightly at him, shaking your head. "c-could you run your hands through my hair...it's comforting." you comply, sitting next to him against the wall and running your hands through his hair. it's still messy and his forehead is riddled with sweat so you hope you can make him look at least a bit better, not that it matters.
"thank you," he mumbles. you sigh, "im sorry this happened to you. we should've never gotten split up." you know there's really nothing you could've done but you still feel the need to apologize for something at least. "it's my fault for wandering off, i was being stubborn," he explains softly.
you both don't say anything after that but he turns his head towards you, looking down at your lips. he was probably taking that time to contemplate whether or not to kiss you again.
you let him. on the floor of the grimy school bathroom where he got bit and where he got his hand amputated. you let him kiss you.

Bio!Dad Bruce Month Day 8- Driving!
Marinette smiled at her brother as he helped her unload her bags from the car. When he had called and asked if she wanted to come visit for a month, the fifteen-year-old had jumped at the chance to get out of Paris. When she had landed, the first thing she had done was take a deep breath and started to process everything that had happened over the school year. At the sound of Tim scrambling down to give her a hug, Marinette brought herself back to the present. The taller teen caught her up in a hug and she clung to him and giggled. When he put her down, Marinette turned at towards the sound of measured steps nearing the group. The boy approaching her scowled and crossed his arms. Marinette shook her head fondly at him and waved.
She knew that Damien wasn’t her biggest fan, but she still tried her hardest to get along with the youngest in the family. While she had been greeting Damien, Cass had made her way over, and moved Tim out of the way. Once the girls had reunited, Marinette made to pick up her bags, only to have three sets of hands reach to stop her. With a huff, the noirette set her gaze on her younger brother. “Well, Damian, shall we?” the boy looked her over with sharp green eyes and nodded.
” Yes, sister, we shall.” The duo made their way up the drive to the manor, where Alfred was standing and watching them with a fond smile.
As they made their way closer, Marinette studied the butler. When she had, once, asked how long her had been taking care of the family, the man had smiled at her and simply said “A very long time now, Miss Marinette.” No matter who she asked, that was the clearest answer she could get.
Dick, Cass, and Tim soon followed, each carrying a bag. While Marinette had insisted that she didn’t need the extra bags, Dick had insisted that she pack an absurd amount of clothing. He had promised the extra bags would be paid for, and that was that. Marinette was not pleased, to say the least, but had reluctantly agree to her brother’s wishes.
At dinner that evening, Marinette was surprised to be greeted by Jason plopping down across form her. When she cast an uncertain glance at the chair that belonged to Bruce, Jason smirked. “B had to leave the country for something and took Duke with him. Suddenly, I had an open invitation to the manor again.” At her unimpressed response the young adult grinned. “I can’t wait to raise hell while mi here.” At Jason’s proclamation, Dick cleared his throat.
“actually, you won’t be raising hell, because none of us are going to be here.” At the looks of shock that were flooding the table, Dick smirked. “The reason we are all here is…DRUM ROLL PLEASE” Tim rolled his eyes but obliged the oldest, “we are going on a family vacation!” Damien groaned and Cass smiled.
“Dam it Dick, really?” came from Tim, while Jason shook his head in disbelief. Marinette, on the other hand blinked in confusion.
“what…what do you mean, a vacation? Is that why you had me pack an absurd amount of stuff?”
“Correct! And we are going to have so! Much! Fun!” At Dick’s excitement, Tim rolled his eyes and leaned over to whisper to Marinette
“how likely is it that someone is in the emergency room by the end of the first week?” She shook her head in response,
“that’s not even worth betting over.” Tim huffed at the ease she had used to cut off his train of thought.
“50 bucks say we are taking a plane.”
“I say were carpooling. Dick would see it as family bonding.”
“done. When your handing over the money, just remember to be thankful that we aren’t cooped up in tin cans with the rest of the hoard for weeks on end.”
“and when you hand over your money, make sure we are in the same car. I want a little bit of sanity on this trip.” The teens shook on their bet and turned to see the rest of the family looking at them, obviously wondering what exactly had taken place. Marinette flashed a smile at them, “sorry, did you need something?”
The next morning when Dick went around knocking on doors and waking up the family, only two went left unopened. When he bounded into the kitchen however, he found two pairs of blue eyes watching him from the table, coffee mugs in hand. He shook his head and moved to pour a bowl of cereal. When he turned back towards the table, he found them still looking at him. “yes?” it seemed that his question was all that was needed to prompt them.
“where are we going?” Tim started them off.
“it’s a surprise”
“when do we leave?” Marinette cut in before he had time to finish talking.
“two hours. Alfred packed everyone’s bags on the sly.”
“how long is the trip?” Marinette again.
“a few weeks. Why? Afraid you’ll miss Gotham?”
“when is our flight?” Tim, who was asking with quite a lot of hope
“who said anything about a flight?”
“shit.” At Tim’s face, Dick looked surprised. Marinette however, looked practically gleeful.
“looks like I won that bet! Hand it over, brother.” The pain on the seventeen-year-olds face was laughable.
“but- “
“Tim! 50. Dollars.”
“he hasn’t said we are taking the cars yet!”
“its implied, you genius. Honestly, I thought you were supposed to be the smart one!” Tim halfheartedly glared at her as he handed over a crisp $50 and returned to his coffee. Before Dick could ask any more questions, Jason and Cass mad their presence know, while Damian followed a few minutes later.
When Alfred had helped Dick usher the rest of the family over to two cars, he turned to face them with a big smile. While they jostled each other, Steph climbed out of her car and hurried over, looking very pleased with herself. She paused by one of the cars and deposited her bag before joining them.
“alright, now that everyone is here, lets get started. We have two cars and will be rotating through drivers. Sorry, Damian and Net, you two are forbidden form touching the wheel. Now, I have decided on our seating arrangements already. Jason, Tim, and Ste- “
“and Little Bit. Marinette rides with us.” Dick blinked at the interruption and tried to protest only to see the other three nodding at Tim’s proclamation. He sighed.
“fine. Damian, Cass. You two will ride with me. If something comes up, we’ll rearrange. Now, today we are going to make it our goal to get closer to the middle of the country. After that, we will re-evaluate and pick a destination. Load up!”
The first four hours were fine. No, they were more than fine. Then, Jason got bored and started to play music to get on the other’s nerves. When he got banished to the back, Stephanie pounced at the chance to move up front and keep Tim company. In theory, it was a good idea. That is, until the blonde demanded that they stop every half hour for food. After the third pitstop, Tim moved her stuff in the back and kidnapped Marinette’s phone. When the others reconvened, there was a slight scuffle before they realized that Tim had made the call. Since neither of the others wanted to drive, Marinette happily settled into the passenger seat. The next three hours when by quickly. By the time Tim pulled over for gas, Jason and Steph had fallen asleep. While he took care of the car, Marinette slipped into the convince store and restocked on snacks and drinks. Tim grinned at her collection that she hauled out. “magnum bars? Really?”
“yup. Best ice cream you can find.” He snorted at her,
“maybe out here in the middle of nowhere. When we get home, remind me to take you for the good stuff.” The girl rolled her eyes and plopped back into her seat.
“let’s go, before Dick thinks we died.”
The next morning, when they all piled back into the cars, the other car called. After a loud…conversation, they settled on working towards St. Louis, and going from there. Once the groups were well and truly on the road again, Jason started them on games. First was truth or dare. After that was never have I ever, food edition. (A/N-when my friends car trip, we play this. Instead of a shot, you eat. That’s all.) after the four had exhausted all of their tame, non-hero topics, the Gotamites started to slip some of their exploits that Marinette Was Not Supposed to Know About into the game. Once they had gotten as far as they could without revealing their secret identities as the Vigilante Bats of Gotham, they moved on to telling embarrassing stories. After lunch, where they stopped and switched drivers, Tim and Marinette got into a debate over a shared book series, while Jason and Steph played loud music and sang off key up front. After dinner, when they switched back, Jason and Steph once again fell asleep.
Two hours out from St. Louis, Tim turned to his little sister. “Hey Little Bit, how would you like to drive for a bit? I know you have your permit.” Marinette threw a glance over her shoulder and grinned at him.
“are you sure? Dad won’t ride with me when I drive. He says I’m worse than Jason.” Tim sniggered at the face she made while imitating their father.
“as long as we don’t die permanently, we should be fine. Its late enough that you should be ok to drive.” The smile she shot his way made Tim decide immediately that whatever happened during the next two hours, he would do the best he could to let her drive again.
An hour and a half, Tim wasn’t sure if he was right to give the keys to his sister. Somehow, they had beat Dick to the hotel. As Jason and Steph yawned and stretched, the other two made their way towards their hotel for the night. When Dick pulled up 45 minutes later, they had made their way inside, and Jason and Steph had already crashed in their respective rooms. Marinette was sitting in the room she was sharing with Cass while chatting with Tim, who looked a little pale. When Dick stopped by to gather the keys for the room he was sharing with Damian, he shot his brother a worried look.
The next morning, when Dick admitted that it would probably be good to switch up the cars, Jason and Steph jumped at the chance to switch cars. In return, Cass joined the other teens. Without the presence of anyone top pretend at being an adult, the three were able to mess around. When they checked their GPS, the group realized they not only had they been speeding, but they were quite far further than they had planned for lunch. After looking up the nearest food, Tim turned to Marinette and held out the keys. When Cass realized what was going on, she sniggered. That evening, the trio beat the others by over an hour. When asked, they all shrugged and said that they were just having fun.
Two weeks later, after the siblings had returned to the manor, Tim offered to bring Marinette with him while he ran into WE to pick up some paperwork. When the girl had nodded, her brother had grinned and tossed her the keys. At Dick’s shocked splutter, Tim turned and raised an eyebrow at his brother.
“what? Little Bit knows how to drive.” Dick shook his head fervently.
“Tim no! B said that Net was Not to Touch the Keys Unless It Was an Emergency!” Tim sniggered, and Cass who had been listening to their interaction, rolled her eyes. At Dick’s offended look, she looked to Tim. He sighed.
“Dick, she drove for as much of our trip as I did. Plus, I promised her ice cream.”
Dick Grayson’s shouting that followed the duo as they sped out of the drive could be heard echoing for miles, but neither sibling cared.

A version of home (Part Two)
Tumblr media
Masterlist
“Still going?” Dean asked as he came into the kitchen. He was rubbing black oil off his hands as he headed to the fridge for a drink.
“Yeah Bobby manages to pack this stuff in. I found two curse boxes and they’ve only been gone… four hours?” You said with a fond sigh as you set another pile of boxes and books on the kitchen table.
“You know he’d never admit it but I think he appreciates the effort… he seems happy you’re here.” Dean said quickly. You nodded as he popped open his beer and the two of you stood in the awkward air that seemed to choke Bobby’s kitchen. You weren't used to other hunters that weren’t years older than you. It was strange that someone else had a familial bond with Bobby, the way you did.
“Well, I think that i’ve found some weapons in the back of the book pile so… I’m going to go.”
“Yeah. urm...” Dean said gruffly. “I should get back to work.”
It took a couple more hours to get the books sorted into the piles Sam had suggested. Now they took up a large amount of space in the living room. Although while you’d been sorting you had found four, flat packed, sets of book shelves. Several knives, guns, boxes of hand crafted bullets and other weapons that you weren’t too sure about. You had been curious about Bobby’s other spare rooms and tried to poke around. You were abruptly stopped by the door of the first room barely opening enough for you to see the boxes and books blocking the door. “Damn Bobby! There must be hundreds of books in here!” You muttered to yourself.
Deciding you’d surprise Bobby with the new shelves, you headed down stairs. Pausing at the bottom step and sighing. You still had to figure out what to do with all the weapons. Organising Bobby’s books was one thing but if he had to hoard some weapons he kept them in the basement or in his car. It was the one thing you didn’t mess with when it came to Bobby. You weren’t sure how you felt about Dean or if you felt comfortable enough to ask him for help.
Sam seemed nice, once he got over the awkwardness of, clearly, being asked by Bobby to get along with you. It was like being a kid again. But Dean seemed more rough around the edges. You understood, it was hard to trust other hunters.
“Hey, Dean?” You called as you headed out into the back of Bobby’s house. The maze of cars outside seemed to have grown like the hoard of books. Following the sounds of Dean working on the Impala, you found him near one of the less run down work sheds. “Dean?”
“Yeah?” He said as he glanced at you.
“I had a question about Bobby’s weapon collection. I’m not sure he even remembered he had half that stuff that I found in the spare room. Maybe… you could look them over, I’d call Bobby and ask what he wants me to do with them but I don’t want to interrupt their hunt.” You explained.
“You don’t know what to do with them?” He asked dubiously as he finished his fiddling and stood up, brushing his hands on his jeans.
“I put the weapons for vampires and werewolves with the others in the basement already but my family were kind of experts at vampires and werewolves. Outside of a few ghosts and a couple ghouls. I haven’t hunted much else.”
“Oh, yeah Bobby mentioned your grandfather was pretty famous for hunting vamps. I can help you out.” Dean sounded surprised that you’d asked him for help. He followed you up to the spare room where you’d layed out all the weapons on the bed, along with a few more spell boxes.
“Most of these you can just put in the basement. This one, also this. I think Rufus needs one of these for a succubus. I got a call from another hunter earlier, they were looking for Bobby and I'm pretty sure these two would do the trick… I actually think I made this knife. Had to add a bunch of stuff to it for a hunt. We can find someone to run the knife down but Rufus will need this as soon as possible.” Dean said after he had looked everything over. He sounded a little sentimental over the last weapon that he picked up and flipped over in his hand.
“I think Rufus is still on a hunt nearby. He keeps saying it’s his last one. I’m surprised he even called Bobby when he saved me from the werewolf, after what happened between him and Bobby.” You muttered and Dean nodded. He gave you a quizzical look but knew better than to pry when it came to Bobby and his friends. At least until he had Sam to help him.
“We could see how the tune ups worked on the car and head out, drop these out with Rufus…” Dean offered. Bobby had left him with the specific instructions to befriend you. He didn’t want you running off on a hunt and he figured if you were going to tell anyone, it would be Sam and Dean, seeing as neither would object to going along on a hunt with you, instead of stopping you from going.
“Sure, sounds… good.” You said nervously. Dean grinned and hurried to put the hood of the Impala down. While he gave the car a final once over you grabbed a duffle bag for the weapons and set all the phones to answer with Bobby’s prerecorded message.
“Rufus is only an hour out.” You said as you climbed into the front passenger seat. Dean was already waiting in the car. “I got a text from Bobby saying he should be back with Sam in a few.”
“Great, an old friend is passing through so if we’re not too long with Rufus we should be able to drop the last weapon off and pick up dinner at the diner on the way back.” Dean offered and you nodded as you set the bag in the footwell while staring at your phone.
“Someone phoned Bobby asking if he had a book… apparently Sam thinks he saw it when he was helping me.” You mumbled as you text Bobby back.
“Bobby probably has every book under the sun at this point.” Dean replied as he started to cruise out of Bobby’s backyard and down the street.
“Bobby said you guys are looking for your dad. I’m sorry you’re having a hard time finding him.” You said suddenly after a few moments of silent driving. Dean cleared his throat and shifted in his seat.
“We’ll find him. Or he’ll find us, I’m sure It’ll be fine. He’s a great hunter.” Dean answered quickly.
“I think my grandpa hunted with one of your grandparents. Some vampire big nest.” You muttered. Dean frowned at you, assuming you’d mixed him up with someone. Maybe the Garth kid that Bobby talked about.
The rest of the drive was awkwardly quiet. Though Dean was pretty pleased he’d solved the squeaking issue. It’d be awhile before he had to hang round Bobby’s and fix the car up. He noticed that as he drove closer to the meeting place with Rufus you got more nervous. “So the last time you saw Rufus he was saving your life?” Dean jokes.
“Actually, he stayed when I was in the hospital. He was yelling at Bobby about letting me hunt a werewolf pack alone. I didn’t know it was a pack at the time and Bobby had been trying to get me to slow down for a while. I just sort of lost it.” You explained and Dean nodded. He’d gotten to the motel Rufus was waiting at. He was packing up his own car and waved at Dean as he pulled up.
“Hey, Rufus. We’ve got that weapon you needed.” Dean said as he clambered out the car. You were a little slower getting out of the car.
“Dean, nice to see you.” He glanced over Dean’s shoulder as you fumbled with the weapon in your hand. “(Y/N), glad you recovered ok.”
“Yeah. Nothing a good hunter can’t recover from.” You said quietly. While you shuffled your feet Dean cleared his throat and nudged you. “Here!”
“Thank you. Caught wind of another hunt. They just keep on coming.” Rufus complained as he took it and set it in his truck.
“You know, considering that you’re trying to retire…” You pointed out and he tutted at you.
“I would have been well out of the game if it wasn’t for you.” He warned playfully.
“Well, I’m not hunting for a little while. Bobby, he… wants me to take it easy for a while.” You explained. Dean shoved his hands in his pockets and started admiring the cars, scattered in the parking lot.
“Glad to hear it. I know you’ve lost a lot but I’d rather not be losing you.” Rufus saif with a soft, genuine tone. He gave you an affectionate hug and petted your head as he nodded to Dean. “Hopefully I won’t see you kids around. Take care.”
“You take care too, Rufus.” You said as you waved at him. He gave a short wave before driving off to his next hunt.
“So, ready to head home?” Dean asked as he turned to you.
*****************
“Hi, do you take out?” You asked the smiling woman at the counter. She looked exhausted and as if the day had been hard for her.
“We do, we have a take out menu. We no longer do delivery.” She said and her eyes looked strained as if she was waiting for you to complain.
“Great! We’re not too far away. Dean, they do take out but only collection.” You called to Dean who was finishing swapping the weapon from Bobby’s for some sort of magic object to do with demons. You didn’t really track when he started going into the demon things on the way back to Sioux Falls.
“Great, we’ll take two of the pies from the special board and… What do you think Bobby and Sam will want?”
“Um… Sam likes the healthy stuff right?” You asked and Dean agreed, ordering a large salad and something that was sloppy, a dubious green and game in a lukewarm cylindrical tub.
“I think Bobby will want the burger or something.” You said to Dean in a sheepish tone as you both stared at the tub while the server behind the till gave you the plastered smile.
“You’re onto something, want one too?” He asked, much in the same tone, wincing at the tub which bubbled for a moment.
“Yeah sure…”
Getting your full order took a while when Dean added more and more to the list. But eventually you managed to get back home to Bobby’s. The lights were on and you could see Bobby’s truck parked neatly as Dean pulled up beside it.
“I can’t believe the food is so… weird.” You muttered as you held the two paper bags of food.
“Sammy’s food looks like it’s alive.” Dean muttered and you laughed.
“You two seem to be getting along.” Sam pointed out as the two of you headed inside. You had the bags while Dean had the drinks and a sketchy looking homemade ice cream that was apparently made in store at the restaurant. There had been a long debate about why they called it homemade when it wasn’t made in someone's home.
“Yeah, we went to the dinner that’s in town. Since it was bought out… it’s gotten a bit weird.” You explained as you started to set everything out on the table. Bobby joined Sam who hurried to dump his notebook on a pile of books near the table. As you set Sam’s food in front of him both you and Dean watched him intently as he opened it. He started spooning the food into his mouth without hesitation.
“Well you owe me five bucks.” You muttered to Dean.
“Hey, it could still get him!”
“What are you two talking about?” Sam asked dubiously as he looked suspiciously at the two of you, then his food.
“Sam, your food looks alive.” You muttered and he rolled his eyes.
“It’s better than what you three are eating.” Sam offered up.
“Sammy you’re eating flubber!” Dean insisted. The three of you continued to bicker over the food long into Dean’s massive desert. The bickering was ended by Bobby insisting that the three of you had to build the new shelves that you had routed out in the now nearly empty spare room.

Unforeseen dangers ch 9
Summary:  As Peter recovers from his capture by Ross, a photo of him with Tony and the Avengers leaks and is splashed all across the media. Luckily, no one can figure out who he is and everyone thinks the buzz will die down. However, the public’s interest has been ignited. While Tony worries it’s only a matter of time before Peter’s identity is exposed, Peter isn’t as concerned. Besides, what’s the worst that could happen anyway?
Read on AO3.
________________________________________________________
“How you holding up?” Tony asked Peter as the car pulled into the Tower’s private garage.
Peter shrugged in answer.
His kid had been uncharacteristically quiet throughout the entirety of the car ride, but Tony didn’t know what else he’d expected.  Tony had been raised in the spotlight.  It was all he’d ever known, so he found it oddly difficult to put himself in Peter’s shoes and figure out what he was feeling.  Instead of prying like he wanted to, he squeezed Peter against his side in a half hug.
“We’re here.” Happy announced unnecessarily as he put the car in park.  As much as his current Forehead of Security liked to grump, Tony knew the man hated tense silences just as much, if not more, than he did.
Tony wasted no time opening the car door and stepping out, but he had to duck his head back in when Peter didn’t automatically follow behind him.
“Come on kid.  Time to go.  As comfy as my car is, you can’t sit in it all day.” He said to Peter who was staring straight ahead, spaced out.  Peter blinked and slowly turned his head to take in Tony standing outside the car.  Only then did he seem to notice that he was the sole person still left in the car.
“Oh.” Peter said and blinked again before finally climbing out.  All his movements seemed slower than usual.
Tony didn’t call him on it.  He rested a hand loosely on Peter’s shoulder as they walked over to the elevator together where Bruce, Nat, Happy, and Steve were already inside waiting.
“Penthouse FRIDAY.” He ordered as they stepped in.
“Thanks guys.” Peter finally spoke, although he kept his gaze firmly fixed on the ground.
“You don’t need to thank anyone.” Tony said before they had a chance to respond.
“You’re dad’s right.” Steve agreed.  “We were happy to do it.”
“I needed to get out and get some air anyway.” Bruce added in a transparent attempt to lighten the mood.
Natasha just gave Peter a small smile while Happy let out a noncommittal grunt.
“Where’s everyone else?” Peter asked after another few seconds of silence had passed.
“Meeting us back here.  Actually, they probably beat us.” Tony answered.
“Seems like an awful lot of trouble just to pick me up from school.” Peter frowned.
“Nope.  No trouble.  Everyone missed you and wanted to take their turn to come and get you.  We tried rock paper scissors but since everyone on the team’s a sore loser I decided to let them all tag along.” Tony knew he was rambling and so obviously lying, but he didn’t want Peter to know the real reason everyone had shown up to get him, or the way his heart had started racing the moment he found out Peter’s identity had been discovered.
He’d been down in his workshop when Rhodey had come running in yelling his name.  “Tony!  Tony!”
When he’d heard the fear in Rhodey’s voice, he’d sat up so fast he’d smacked his head on the armor he’d been working on.  Rhodey was one of the most unshakable people Tony knew.  He could count on one hand the number of times he’d seen the man truly panic.  He didn’t even want to imagine what had happened to add this moment to one of those times.
“What?  What happened?” Fear swirled in his gut, visions of someone seriously hurt or dead flashed through his mind.  Someone who could make Rhodey look like that.  Peter.  Pepper.
“Have you seen the news?” Rhodey asked as he held out a hand to help him stand from the floor.
“No.”
“It’s Peter.” Rhodey came right out and said it.  He was never one to beat around the bush.
Tony’s eyes widened.  “Peter?  What about Peter?  Is he ok?” His greatest fear brought to life.  None of it made sense.  Peter should be in school and completely fine.  And he didn’t understand how Peter connected to seeing the news.  His brain felt like it was trying to reboot, to sort out the information coming at him through his sudden panic.
“He’s fine, but it’s all over the news.”
“What is?”
“He is.  Peter.  They figured out his identity.”
His first instinct was to panic, but he knew he couldn’t.  He had to stay clear headed and figure out what to do.  For his kid.
He closed his eyes as he took a deep breath and forced himself to think.  When he opened them again, he caught Rhodey staring at him, waiting for his decision on what to do.
“What exactly do they know?” Tony asked.  He needed more information in order to work through the problem and figure out what to do next.  “That he’s the kid from all the pictures with me?”
“Yes.  That…” Rhodey said, but Tony could sense there was something else.
“And?  What else?” He prodded, letting his impatience through.
“That he’s your son.  That you adopted him.” Rhodey winced as he said it.
That was when the panic returned.
“Fuck.” He sprinted toward the elevator, Rhodey hot on his heels.
“Ok, now just for some perspective, don’t forget he’s Spiderman.  He’s not some helpless kid.” Rhodey said as the elevator doors closed behind them.
“Is that supposed to make me feel better?” He spat and pushed the button for the garage three times in succession to make the elevator drop at its fasted velocity.
“Yes.” Rhodey said as if it were obvious.
“Well it doesn’t.  My kid’s still in danger, because of his connection to me.” He growled, glaring at his friend.  He knew he was displacing all his anger and frustration on Rhodey who didn’t deserve any of it, but he didn’t have the mental capacity to reel himself in at the moment.  Besides, as his oldest friend, Rhodey was definitely more than used to taking the undeserved brunt of his mood swings.
“What are you doing?” Rhodey asked as the doors opened and he jogged toward his fastest car.
“What do you think I’m doing?  I’m going to go get my kid!” He yelled, anger starting to override his fear.  He was angry at the world for doing this to his son.  Angry at himself for not doing a better job of preventing it.  He called himself a futurist, and yet, he hadn’t been able to see this coming soon enough to stop it.
“Wait!” Rhodey called out from right behind him.
Tony ignored him.
“Just wait a minute!” Rhodey grabbed his shoulder.
Tony spun around, fury written on every line of his face.  “What?”
“Stop and think Tony.  What?  You think you’re just going to march in there, grab him and come home?  Like it’ll be that easy?  The entire world knows he’s your son.  They dug into everything they could about him before breaking the story ten minutes ago.  They know his parents died and then his aunt and uncle.  They know he’s a straight A student.  They know he’s on the decathlon team.  They know where he goes to school.”
Ice ran down his spine.
“They’re going to be camped out just waiting for you to show up.  Waiting for him.  For the spectacle of it.  You know it. And god forbid, what if more than just the media is waiting?  I know you like to joke about it, but you have a lot of enemies and as far as the world knows, your kid’s just a normal kid, completely unguarded at school right now.  I know it’s a terrible thing to say, but if I wanted to hurt you, this would be the perfect opportunity.”
The hell of it was, he knew Rhodey was right, and not only that, but he couldn’t believe he hadn’t considered it before.  This whole thing had shaken him more than he’d realized.
“All it would take is a sniper rifle and a good vantage point, and it’d be all too easy to tag the kid as soon as he stepped outside the school.  Just like that.” Rhodey snapped his fingers.
Tony clenched his jaw at the image the words conjured.  The logical side of his brain told him that Peter had that sixth sense that would keep him safe from something like that, but the dad side of his brain worried about it not working or worried that even with the warning Peter still might not react fast enough to get out of the way.
“With enough money it wouldn’t be too hard to get a hired hand in place in such a short time frame.” Rhodey continued but his voice had softened.  “It’s what I would do.”
Tony closed his eyes and rubbed his hand over them.  “Ok.  So what do suggest we do then?  Not get my kid?  Leave him alone and unprotected at school?” He channeled all his fear and anger into sarcasm.
“Of course not.” Rhodey gave him a scathing look.
“What then?”
“We bring the team.” Rhodey said as if the answer were obvious.
So they had.
Within thirty minutes of the news breaking, Clint had positioned himself as a lookout on a nearby roof near the school and Sam and Rhodey had taken to the sky, flying around the area to ensure that all the other rooftops remained clear while Tony made his way to the school entrance along with Bruce and Steve, two of the most invincible Avengers, given Rhodey’s imagined threat of a sniper.
While Happy and Natasha waited in the car, the trio forced their way through the hoard of press already waiting like vultures outside the school.  Tony cursed the fact that there was no other entrance near a street because it was going to make getting his kid out a nightmare.
Tony was honestly surprised Peter hadn’t called or texted him yet, but he remembered him mentioning something before about the teachers being strict about cell phone use during class, so maybe he just didn’t know yet.
Inside, the hallways remained quiet and desolate.  Kids weren’t running around, excitedly talking, and getting ready to mob Peter at any moment, so class must’ve just started when the news broke.  He figured that was the one lucky break in all of this.
The sound of his own phone ringing cut through the heavy silence.  He gave the screen a cursory glance, intending to ignore it until he saw the caller ID.  Pepper.  One of the few people he’d answer a phone call from at a time like this.
“Hey Pep.” He said as he pressed the phone to his ear, trying to keep his voice down.  The last thing he needed was some errant student recognizing him.
“Tony?  Have you seen the news?” His heart warmed a little at the panic in her voice.  She obviously cared about Peter too, which shouldn’t surprise him.  The kid was like a puppy.  Everyone he met seemed to fall in love with him, and Tony knew the two of them had grown closer over the holidays when she’d helped Peter file the adoption papers for his surprise Christmas present.
“I have.”
“Oh my god.  Where are you?”
“I’m at his school.  I’m picking him up.”
“By yourself?” He marveled at the way Pepper could make her voice shrill without actually reaching a high pitched decibel.
“No.  Of course not.” He decided she didn’t need to know that was what he’d almost done until Rhodey had intervened.  “I brought the team.”
“Oh thank god.  Just get him back here and then we need to figure out what we’re going to do.”
“Your wish is my command.”
“Stay safe.” She ordered, stern but worried, a tone with which Tony was all too familiar.
“I will.” He said, the corner of his mouth turning up as he hung up.  It was times like these when he remembered what he and Pepper used to have, and he missed it.
He didn’t know what kind of expression was painted on his face, but whatever it was, it was enough for Steve to remind him, “Focus Tony.”
“Trust me Cap,” he said as he pocked his phone, “I’m as focused as anyone could possibly be right now.”
Steve nodded and within another ten steps they were standing in front of the office door.
Tony turned back to Bruce and Steve as he grabbed the handle.  “Let’s go get my kid.”
He swung the door open like he owned the place and did exactly that.
Tony almost couldn’t believe that had all happened within the last hour.  He still felt like he was doing catch up with trying to process everything.  He couldn’t even imagine how Peter felt.
The elevator finally reached the penthouse and the doors opened, revealing a scene Tony hadn’t been expecting, although in retrospect, it shouldn’t have come as a surprise.  Pepper had kind of warned him with her phone call earlier, but he hadn’t been thinking about it.  He’d only been thinking about getting his kid to safety.  Which he’d accomplished.
But now he needed to figure out how to approach this entire mess of a situation because it wasn’t going to fix itself.  Thus, the reason for why the penthouse was currently filled with his PR employees.
They stepped out of the elevator and into a maelstrom of chaos.  It was a scene reminiscent of the time he’d told the world he was Ironman and the resulting backlash.  Or the time he’d supposedly asked some Russian model to marry him.  He hadn’t.  Or the time he’d been quoted as saying he was anti-gun, which hadn’t been true.  At the time.  Or the time he’d gotten plastered in Vegas and apparently forgotten to clothe his bottom half before stepping out onto his balcony.  But all of those things had happened years ago.  It’d been quite awhile since he’d been at the center of this kind of media shitstorm.
Pepper noticed him the moment he stepped into the room.  She gave him a small smile as she walked over, but she stopped in front of Peter instead of him.
“Oh sweetie I’m so glad you’re ok.” She said as she pulled him into a tight hug.
He seemed a little surprised but didn’t hesitate to hug her back.  “I’m fine.”
“I know.” She said as she released him and grasped his shoulders, looking him square in the eyes.  “And don’t worry.  We’re going to figure this out.  We have people whose entire job is dealing with stuff like this.”
“What?  A secret son?” Peter joked but it fell flat.
Pepper graced him with a wry smile.  “Well, no.  This is definitely a first, but you’d be surprised by what we’ve had to deal with when it comes to Tony.”
“Hey.” Tony acted affronted even though he knew she only spoke the truth.
Pepper arched an eyebrow at him.
He cleared his throat and changed the subject.  “Anyway, what’s the plan?”
“Now that you’re here, we can do a sit down and plan out our immediate next steps.” Pepper said, all business again.
“Uh-huh.” He said, distracted by the shell shocked look on Peter’s face as he took in the room and the dozen or so strangers bustling about.
“But I really think the first thing we need to do is hold an emergency press conference, so we should put together a statement for that as soon as possible.” Pepper continued.
“Yeah.” He frowned and then held up a hand when Pepper started to speak again.  “We will definitely do all of that, but first I need a few minutes with my kid.”
Pepper blinked and looked over at Peter, her eyes softening at the obvious distress she saw there even as Peter did his best to try to hide it.  “Of course.  How about I get everyone together and we meet in the conference room at,” she checked her watch, “3:30PM.  That’ll give you fifteen minutes.  Is that enough time?”
“Should be.” He nodded and then gripped Peter’s shoulders.  “Come on Underoos.  Let’s go sit down for a minute.”
Peter let Tony guide him through all the pandemonium to the hallway and into his bedroom.  Tony pressed him down to sit at the end of the bed before grabbing the desk chair for himself.   He flipped it around and sat, letting his forearms rest on the chair back, going for nonchalant even though he felt anything but.
“So.” Tony said, not quite sure how to start the conversation.
“So…” Peter echoed back, not making it any easier.
“I know this is a lot, so I thought we should just take a little time out.  A little breather.  And you can tell me you’re thinking.”
“What I’m thinking?” Peter’s eyebrows pulled together like he didn’t understand what Tony meant.
“Yeah.  What’s going on in that noggin of yours?”
“I-I don’t know.  This is all…  This is crazy.”
“It is.” Tony agreed.
“I…I don’t know what you want me to say.”
“There’s nothing I want you to say.  I just want you to talk to me.  Tell me what you’re thinking, how you’re feeling about this.”
“Um I don’t know.  It’s a lot.” Peter shrugged.
“Care to expound on that a little?” Tony asked lightheartedly.
“I guess it’s kind of overwhelming, but it doesn’t really feel like it’s real at the same time?  Does that make sense?”
Tony nodded, staying silent to encourage Peter to keep talking.
“And now there are all these people here and there were all those people waiting outside my school and I know everything’s going to change forever and…I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.” Peter trailed off and met his eyes, and Tony hated the fear and desperation he saw there.  “It’s just…a lot.”  He repeated.  “And I guess I didn’t really think this was going to happen.  Or if it did, I didn’t think it would be this soon.  And I didn’t think it would be like this.”
Tony sighed and ran a hand through his hair.  He didn’t know what to say to make it better, because there really wasn’t anything he could say, or do, to fix it.  The horse was out of the barn.  It was done.  Over with.  Now all they could do was deal with the fallout, and he knew it wasn’t going to be particularly pleasant for him or Peter.
“I’m sorry.” He settled on those two words even though they didn’t have the power to fix anything.
“It’s not your fault.” Peter shrugged.
“Still.  I never wanted any of this for you.”
Peter hung his head and picked at the fraying hem on one his sleeves.  The kid had a closet full of expensive, brand new, clothing but for some reason it seemed like he always chose to wear whatever he had that was tattered or fraying.
“What’s going to happen now?” Peter asked, looking up at him again.
“Now I’m going to go meet with all those people out there and try to come up with a game plan.”
“And what does that mean?”
“It means first I’m going to find out how all this got out and how much everyone actually knows.”
“Ok.”
“And then I’m going to draft a statement to read at a press conference I’m guessing Pepper has already scheduled, probably to start within the next hour.”
“Really?” Peter seemed surprised.
Tony nodded.
“What are you going to say?”
“Depends on what the media has already spilled the beans on and how good their sources are.  If they don’t have any proof you’re my son, and it’s just conjecture, then there might be some wiggle room and I may be able to spin this a different way, but I don’t want you to get your hopes up.  I’m guessing they have some solid sources if it’s already out there like this, since everyone knows how much I like to sue for slander.”
Peter snorted.
“So, how about this?  You sit tight in here and I’ll go deal with all of this, and as soon as I know more about the plan, I’ll let you know, ok?”
“Ok.” Peter agreed softly.
Tony hummed and drummed his fingers along the chair back as he studied his son.  He hated the idea of leaving him alone right now, but he knew he didn’t have any other choice.  He had to go deal with all of this, and he didn’t want to bring Peter along and subject him to everything that entailed.  That would only make it worse.
It was a no win situation.  As soon as he left, his kid was going to be on his computer or his phone googling himself, and he’d start falling down the proverbial rabbit hole.  As a media veteran, Tony knew self google was never a good idea, but he could only guess at what was being said and written about his kid.  He hadn’t had any time to check yet, so he couldn’t even prepare Peter for it.  He definitely wasn’t winning any parenting awards today.
“Listen, I’m going to do something, and you’re not going to like it, but you have to trust me that it’s in your own best interest right now, all right?”
Peter’s eyes narrowed.  Yeah, this wasn’t going to go over well.
“FRIDAY be a dear and restrict Peter’s TV, phone, and internet access until further notice.”
“What?  No!”
“Just,” Tony said as he held up a hand, “let me deal with this stuff first, and then we’ll deal with the rest of it together.  Ok?” He tried for calm even as a storm cloud passed over Peter’s face.  At least it was better than the sick, pinched look he’d had ever since all this went down.  Silver lining.
“You’re not being fair.” Peter protested.
“I know.” He agreed and Peter didn’t seem to know what to do with that easy admission.
“So I’m just supposed to stay locked in my room alone with nothing to do until you come back?” Peter asked skeptically.
“No.  Of course not.  You have plenty to do.” He gestured to the partially finished Y-wing Lego set, the stacks of DVDs, and the video game consoles.
“You just said I couldn’t use the TV.” Peter huffed.
Tony sighed.  “FRIDAY, Peter can use the TV for watching movies and playing video games, but nothing else, capiche?”
“Yes Boss.”
“There.  All good.  And you’re not going to be alone.  I’ll send you some company.”
Peter screwed up his face like he wasn’t quite sure whether that was a good or a bad thing.
“And I’ll be back as soon as I can.” He said as he stood and ruffled Peter’s hair, smirking as Peter tried in vain to straighten it back into place.
On his way out, Tony paused at the door to turn and look at his kid.  Peter had a desolate expression pasted across his face as he stared straight ahead at nothing.
“Hey.” Tony said to get his attention.   As soon as Peter made eye contact with him, he said solemnly, “It’s going to be ok.”
“I know.” Peter mumbled and gave him a ghost of a smile, but Tony could see the truth in his eyes.  His son didn’t believe him.  Tony always knew he was too smart for his own good.  Just like his old man.
“I love you.” Tony said with a soft intensity.  Maybe he couldn’t keep the world from crashing down around them, but he could love his son.  Always.  It was one of the easiest things he’d ever done.
“I love you too.” Peter said back and that finally got a real smile out of him.  It gave him some hope that maybe this would all turn out ok.
The door closed behind him with a click, and he made his way back out to the living room.  Pepper, along with the rest of his SI team, had left and were probably waiting for him in the conference room, but the room was far from empty.  Apparently none of the Avengers had wanted to go back to their quarters.  The show of concern both irked and warmed him at the same time.  Regardless, he didn’t have time to chit chat.  Except for the one thing he had to do.
“Hey birdbrain.” He said as he spotted Clint sitting in one of the oversized chairs in the corner of the room.  “Do you mind hanging with Peter?  I told him I’d send someone in to keep him company.”
“Sure.” Clint agreed easily.
Tony gave him a nod of thanks and made his way toward the elevator.
“Tony.” Steve said from where he and Natasha were standing in the direct path to the elevator, obviously waiting for him.
Tony stopped in front of him and raised his eyebrows expectantly, waiting for Steve to spit out whatever it was he wanted to say.
“How’s Peter doing?” Steve asked, concern crinkling in the corners of his eyes.
Tony sighed.  He had no idea how to answer that question.  “He’s…dealing.”
Steve nodded as if he understood everything Tony wasn’t saying.
“Well, if that’s it, I have to go figure out how to deal with this disaster.” Tony said after a few seconds had passed and it didn’t seem like Steve was going to say anything else.
He took a step away but Steve reached out to grab his arm.  “Wait.  We want to come with you.”
Tony turned and frowned.  “You want to come with me where?”
“To the conference room.”
Tony just blinked.  “Why?”
“Maybe we can help.”
His face must’ve shown his skepticism because Natasha added, “We care about Peter too.”  As if Tony had ever doubted that fact.
“Fine.” He must’ve acquiesced too easily given the looks of surprise on Steve and Natasha’s faces.  But he had neither the time nor the energy to argue, and if they wanted to spend their time being tortured in a meeting, then that was their prerogative.  “Let’s go.”
Steve and Natasha followed silently as he continued on his way toward the conference room.  The truth was, he didn’t even know what kind of shitstorm awaited him, but the look on Pepper’s face when he’d stepped into the penthouse had clued him in to the fact that it was bad, along with the dozen or so PR employees milling about with their cellphones attached to their ears and their faces buried in their laptops.  Thinking about it made his heart thrum a rapid staccato in his chest.  Usually he didn’t care about his image, or whatever the media said, but this was different.  This time it was his kid.  He couldn’t help but care.
As he approached the glass walled conference room, he could see everyone waiting for him.  He’d never gone into a meeting so wholly unprepared.  After he’d gotten the news, he’d gone straight to his kid.  He hadn’t taken the time to check any media outlets to see what was being said, so besides what he’d already been told, he honestly had no clue what he was dealing with yet.  He gripped the handle of the conference room door and took a bolstering breath.  It was time to go find out.

I used to have this story exclusively on my Ao3 but since I deleted that last December its taken me months to feel any rhythm of comfort uploading writing online again be it original or not; so I’m finally planning to reupload stuff I saved that isn’t already tagged here

The journey of Catra’s ever changing life begins with one step forward
It started as a bump on her stomach. A mild thing no bigger than her fist. Yet it stuck out the way the crown piece of a treasure hoard shines. Catra stumbled backwards; gripped the sink to keep her balance. She stared deeper into the full length mirror. The bump remained, had it gotten taller in this light? It was smooth to the touch or rather as smooth as fur could be. The softness of her was something to take great pride in. Anyone who assumed her messy were proven dead wrong. Now wasn't the time for petty thinking however.
Catra sank to the floor still clutching her stomach. She felt it join as part of her, this new thing, and if she strained her ears she just knew it had a heartbeat. A child. Adora's- no their child. She has to swallow to not shout 'Holy Shit!!!' at the top of her lungs. Instead it makes her bite her lip until blood trickles. Catra winces then recovers; she stands and runs water to splash on her face. The woman staring back in the vanity mirror is smiling under the wet bangs sticking to her forehead; smiling like an idiot now disheveled. She pivots and bolts out the bathroom yelling.
"Hey Adora! Adora come over here!"
"Catra? What's going on this early?"
She dashed around the sofa through the living room to find Adora rubbing her eyes and slinking out of bed. She heard her mumble already about waking ahead of schedule; it made her try not to roll her eyes. Of course she'd fixate on that right out of sleep. Before she let her get in another word Catra stopped in front of her. She grabbed Adora's hand and pressed it to her stomach. A lopsided grin was all she could muster for a reply. It took a few seconds, then Adora's eyes went wide. She saw her stare at the bump with such reverence Catra felt tears fall.
"You're...we're..."
"I know."
Adora pulled her down into a hug so tight Catra had to tap her to ease it.
"I'm gonna be a parent...Catra you're gonna be a parent! It's, it's real. It's actually happening."
"Told ya it'd work out."
Then Adora sucked in a huge breath and went rigid gawking at the ground.
"Oh my god I'm gonna be someone's mom. I dunno the first thing about babies! Catra who do we even ask-"
"Um, all of Bright Moon and our friends? They already know we're trying did'ja think they'd ditch us now?"
"No! No of course not. It's just this is actually happening. What if I mess it up already and something goes wrong o-or they come and don't like me- can babies think their mom is lame before they're born? What if-"
"Adora. Do you still want a baby?"
"Yes. More than anything. Sorry I know I'm being-"
"Hey. That's all you need; someone like you is gonna do fine. So stop or you'll give yourself a heart attack before the kid's even here."
Catra sat beside her and rubbed circles on her back. A sigh filled the room when Adora leaned her head on Catra's shoulder. She planted a kiss in her hair and wrapped an arm around her.
"...I wouldn't have my kid with someone I knew'd be shit at it. Or to me. You're you Adora, I didn't choose anyone else."
"I know I know. We're nothing like Sha-"
For an instant something stops Adora as if she's been gagged. Her eyes go wide again haunted by the sinister. She tries speaking only to make a strangled sound. They exchanged a look of understanding no one should have. A look of indescribable pain. Shared pain. Adora strains to start a third time when Catra finishes it.
"Nothing like Shadow Weaver. And we never will be. You can kill me if I do."
"I wouldn't go that far but...me too."
Wordlessly she let Adora slide against her and rest on her chest. Catra purred as she traced her claws along Adora's arm. Her tail coiled around Adora's waist when she bent to kiss her cheek. A hum is all she gets in reply; its more than enough.
"We're better people now, aren't we?" She asks.
"We'll always be better if we try. You're right I shouldn't be so hard on myself. Catra?"
She saw the eyes staring up fill with worry like it held the same value as water. Like it was something born in Adora's hands and for all their years since childhood it may well have been. Like it paired perfect with the tension stiffening her face. A face that deserved only to finally be soft forever. Catra whispered already knowing she wouldn't cure anything. It was too late of course; shame was her birthright too.
"I'm happy. I'm so happy right now I can't put it into words even for you. But that doesn't change what I've done. Who I was before this, before this version of us...back when we woke up everyday wondering if that'd be the last time."
"Catra no."
"I hurt you, Adora. I keep saying it because it's never going away ok? I hurt you, I hurt Sparkles and Arrow-Boy, Scorpia...Entrapta. The entire damn planet can bite me in the ass someday and I'd understand. The Horde destroyed. This being the happiest time of my life doesn't erase that."
"Catra-"
"What if I get frustrated and relapse? What if it's not even something I do it runs in families and I'm ruining them right now by being their mother because being a failure is just destiny?!"
"Enough."
The hands holding her head were firm as Adora moved to tangle them in her hair. She lowered her fully onto her lap; let herself purr with a breath in. Her eyes closed, tears fell. Adora's thumb wiped them away. It was so gentle Catra couldn't help a sob. She let everything pour out, let herself be wracked by hiccups; not one received judgement. She sat raw, bare in a place where dignity came innate not earned and knew herself still the invader. The conqueror. An aide to desolation.
The knotted feeling in her throat overpowered the new life under Adora's touch. Her stomach tingled at the caress; did their child want to scold her too?
In the end Adora's voice, that better half, guided her to reason.
"You're allowed to feel bad, remember? Like Perfuma said? I cant stop you no matter how much it hurts to hear. You're allowed to have bad days; but you're not allowed to give up. And you're not allowed to stop improving."
She let herself be pushed gently onto their bed; settled into the wholeness of their bodies resting together like they were made for nothing else. Adora is warm, her chest is safe, and her blonde hair falls across Catra better than a curtain. She purrs and purrs in her arms unable to stop, to entertain the thought for stopping. Hands wander the length of her then settle on her hips. Adora's thumb circles her fur until she wraps her tail along that forearm. They kiss and by god Catra will never get over the bliss it brings.  How do you get over a free fall?
In silence she lets herself be tucked further against her; their legs entangle just as a feeling indescribable bursts from deep within. Something Catra knows she's understood for as long as she could remember that refuses to emerge in glimpses anymore. Only Adora can hope to know it in equal measure. She wants to wish that more than she's ever wanted at all. She swallows before meeting Adora's eyes. Adora has the briefest second for confusion when Catra's impulse strikes in her softest voice.
"It's like you know me better than I know myself."
Adora's face went wide then slid into the chuckle they know means contentment.
"Because you let me in."
And let her in she continued to do. For every day she grew bigger not a feasible moment did she spend alone. If she hungered the kitchen stocks ran dry, when she rested Bright Moon went still. Whenever she yowled or groaned there came Adora to massage her, Bow to shoo away prying eyes, Glimmer to order so many extra pillows for their room she thought there'd finally be something to suffocate her worse than herself.
She sat at the center of the castle gardens in the sun. Seven months had turned the seasons hot into mild into cold that'd kept her tucked in Adora's embrace, now turned again another leaf into Spring. Her back ached under a pressure fanning up her spine and centered on her swollen belly. Catra stifled a groan. Adora sat slumped over the table sound asleep opposite her. The gentle snores rumbling from her chest punctuated the bird calls like a bad note cutting a song. Catra laughed as soft as possible. Maybe their kid would pick it up from the get-go.
The ice in her drink clinked as she sipped. That's when she heard another step through the grass. She glanced at a hedge over her glass brim.
"Quit screwing around before someone else sees you."
"Ohhh Kitten you still don't know the meaning of fun do you?"
"Shhh. Adora's asleep. Thought you'd be quieter too. Must be sooo hard going soft."
A guard emerged from the shadows in white armor. The crescent standard of Bright Moon on the chest liquified then twisted into darkness. It bent and spread until a new figure emerged. Double Trouble shook out the unshaven half of their blond undercut. They stretched into a saunter across the paving stones.
Their high heels made that grating 'click clack' noise she'd once waited for in the Fright Zone. On reflex she glanced at Adora; she was still asleep, now drooling. The nasal pitch Double Trouble called a voice went lower even as their words dripped sass. Catra wished it'd never change, if you dragged the thought out of her.
"I'm surprised you've kept that tongue of yours looking like that. What a nasty little bite from an expecting mother."
"Oh really? What a tired act from a spy about to be washed out in peacetime. Hey don't sit there!"
"No darling you made the bed now lie in it for that one. This table is more than enough for a party."
They smirked at each other and knew there was nothing to forgive. Double Trouble gave Adora a once over look; their eyes lingered on Catra's stomach. They crossed their legs and arms with that flair Catra secretly imitated in the mirror. She went back to drinking.
"Seems like you two tied the knot finally. So sorry I had to miss that event, the stage called me. Color me not shocked to have seen this coming a mile away."
"...What's that mean?"
"It means darling there are countless women throughout the universe who'd kill for your position. Wife of She-Ra and now adding to this little litter you two are starting? Honey you're the most envied yet admired woman anywhere."
"Yeah well I'll believe it when I see it. That many people couldn't like me unless there was something to take."
"Dear, would you look at me?"
She did and found them filing their nails. Typical. They continued.
"Are we friends?"
A pause. Catra twiddled her thumbs. They looked her dead in the eyes now.
"Yeah."
"And her over there, what is she to you?"
"I...Adora is part of my everything."
"Why?"
"What'd you mean why?"
She stopped herself and startled; her eyes widened toward something distant, somewhere within. There from her memory stood Adora, begging her to turn rebel, Adora catching her before a drop to certain death, Adora laughing as they held hands like children again through dark tunnels. Adora overturning an empire millions strong to save her on nothing more than her heart. Adora crying always crying but never stopping.
Foolish and lovely Adora who promised her in infinite ways she was worth it.
Double Trouble grinned into a sound of contentment. They put their filer away and stared expectantly but not without care.
"I take it you know. Now tell me this and be honest- what about Glimmer and Bow? What about all these other princesses and their kingdoms? How do they treat you?"
"They're...they're kind to me. Every time we were off planet letting Adora do her thing, seeing people hold magic for the first time...putting up with my crap before this baby and...helping."
"Oh dearest me that sounds like dare I say, friendship!"' They gasped in mock surprise and laid a hand on their chest.
Catra shot them a scowl; it didn't last.
"Shut up before Adora gets up and misses another hour of sleep. Do you have any idea how she's been? I don't think she's even running on anything anymore like, everyday."
"Taking care of you I'd assume. Go on am I right?" Double Trouble asked (with a wiggle of their eyebrows of course) as if they were on the verge of a delicious secret. For all Catra knew they probably did and could eat those.
"Don't read my damn mind." She replied resting her chin on her palm.
"Darling, Catra, enough moping. Having to kick you in the rear like this when you of all people are making kittens is a bad look. Times have changed; you're not that hollow eyed puppet I knocked sense into back with the Horde. Be free, live a little, throw your kid wild birthday parties. And for the love of theatre get some better stylists for the two of you. I won't stand for a child who's moms aren't looking fabulous."
The whirlwind of gestures their hands made came to a stop. They stared yet again with that expectation bearing down on her. Catra read their eyes. It came from a good place; a place deep, deep past the snark. A veil of doubt that'd anchored in her fell away. Everyone had been kind no- was being kind. The cruelest thing they could do was throw a pregnant woman out to fend for herself and that was seven months too late. 'Or early. Weren't you found in a box? Weren't you out with the trash once time was up?'
She shuddered. No, it wasn't like that anymore, it had no right to be. No power over her; no power over her family. Catra grit her teeth and fangs flashed. She wouldn't let it. Without thinking a growl rumbled through her. Double Trouble clicked their tongue.
"Stress is extra bad for you right now Kitten. Just try to keep stepping out of that head of yours and see what's around for a change."
At last they stood and made to leave; Catra almost reached to stop them, then thought better. What more was there to add? They'd seen her for an open book. Instead she swallowed hard. The voice that called out to them bled sincerity.
"Thank you."
"Pay me back by making good choices darling."
Two weeks later she wriggles her toes on a beach in Mystacor. The sky shifts from twilight to orange dusk. She just knows she's counted the exact same number of clouds the past hour. The air is so clean it's her only barrier from passing out; every breath jolts energy beneath her aches. Adora's footsteps are easy to read when her ears perk. She wraps her tail around her at the feel of them sitting together.
Adora hums before reaching to stroke her belly. The kiss on her cheek is simple yet her blood dances in excitement. Their fingers lace together on the sand. It grounds them. Catra knows Bow is carrying something by the slightest drag in his gait; Glimmer (if you asked her Catra still had the right to call her Sparkles, Queen shit and everything aside) followed behind. The four of them were a crowd that made anything happen.
As if on cue the baby kicked. Whatever the others blathered about faded from her mind into white noise. Beside her time stopped for Adora too; this kid was already making them predictable. The wonder Catra watched spread across her face stayed fresh as ever. Glimmer and Bow went silent. She felt their eyes trace over, heard their breath hitch. She smiled.
"Can I feel it this time?"
"Glimmer you always ask that. Save room for Uncle Bow, who just so happens to have something I know they'll love!"
"My Aunt helped." Glimmer added behind a hand though Bow could hear her.
"Yes she did but only the clothes; these were all me. See for yourselves."
He revealed a set of dolls from a sack. Each were handwoven and stitched so well if she didn't know Bow she'd guess a machine's handiwork. Her breath hitched. Their likenesses were posed under his movements as Glimmer clapped with a giggle. Adora gasped, covered her mouth while her eyes watered. Big ol' softie her Adora was; yet she fought her own tears. The doll with her face wore a grin between cockiness and charm. The smarmy, ruthless, torn glare of her past self morphed on the silk in her minds eye. Its fangs were bared and its sneer cruel.
Catra shuddered and recoiled until she nearly toppled onto the sand. Her bug eyed stare at the thing matched her heaving chest. Nausea that chased a prickling sensation washed over her like a wave; a force of nature. Several deep breaths gave her some composure but the world continued to blur in a haze. Her heartbeat thrummed in her throat and hearing faded and-
And then Adora filled her vision; Adora held her tight until finally she went still. She felt her cheek cupped and fingers massaging through her hair. Though it had regrown thick as a mane despite reaching her shoulders Adora's nails found her scalp. Of course they would; she purred into the embrace and bit her lip to swallow a cry.
'Just try to keep stepping out of that head of yours and see what's around for a change.'
She blinked; the world popped back into place. They stared at her with faces on a scale from terror to worry; as if there were much difference. Bow's pleas about what was wrong stopped the instant her eyes dared linger on her doll again. He looked down and understood; away it went into the sack.
It wasn't the sentiment that upset her. He knew why. Words returned slow when he took her hand.
"I love it Bow, thanks, really; it's sweet of you. I'm sorry I...y'know. Need to keep working on myself."
"Hey don't apologize for that it's alright. I should be the one saying sorry; I didn't think it was still this bad for you."
"Whatever keeps bugging you we're here ok? No shaming, Horde Scum." Glimmer added with a smile that continued to forgive her more than Catra deserved in her opinion.
But if her own words couldn't be trusted, had she been shown forgiveness after all?
"Do you want to talk about it?"
Adora, always there to cut to the point. She found her voice.
"When I saw myself it's like realizing my kid's gonna idolize me. They're gonna grow up having me everywhere if I'm really with them or not. They might even say they wanna be like their mom. Makes a feeling come over me...who I was tries to tell me they'll find nothing to be proud of."
"Oh Catra. We can't not let you feel that way but what matters is you've changed. You keep changing everyday; look at you now! You're committed to motherhood for one, you and Adora are amazing together, you helped me with so much paperwork- c'mon Bow tell her."
Glimmer nudged Bow until he nudged back; he gave Catra a stare that pierced her doubts. She'd rarely seen anyone who captured the sensation of light poking through clouds. He deserved to be called a sun. She swallowed hard again. God, this baby had her emotional.
"You've come a long way. We chose and keep choosing to help. I know it's hard but don't let whats in your head overpower that. We care. You're not gonna go back to being who you were. If you do, we'd stop you because we want to."
"But, everything with Angella-"
Fuck she mentioned it. Why? She just had to bring it up didn't she? 'Do you enjoy shooting yourself in the foot?...' A squeeze on her arm brought her mind to a halt. Damn, Adora may as well have a license in reading her mood. Glimmer sighed from a deep breath. She watched her face knit into something between grief and acceptance.
Everyone went silent, hinged themselves on whatever Glimmer said next. When she spoke her voice came thoughtful yet blunt.
"My mother is gone. Because of you or not she's not here and wallowing in anger and self pity isn't going to bring her back. I'm sure if she saw me still doing it she'd be upset. I've had the years I needed for that; the Catra in front of me isn't the same who pulled the switch."
Glimmer put a hand on Catra's shoulder and smiled when it was welcome. Their eyes met and she saw Bow nod. Glimmer continued in her queenly voice this time; gone were any hints she spent hours practicing, her mother's strength rang clear.
"Don't discredit our choice to forgive. Trust us to stay honest with you and care. Trust yourself like I know you can. Now, let's rate how cheesy my Aunt's baby clothes look!"
Catra's senses returned as if popping back into existence. Just like that they jumped into the next discussion, the next joke, the next tease. She sat with no one but herself to blame; no one but herself for guilt to feast on. Was that it? Was she still trapped in time? How simple it'd been to get an answer for once, yet beside it came more than she understood. The baby kicked again. She sighed and touched her stomach.
"Sorry you've got an overthinking Mama kid."
Adora nudged her. She turned to find that contagious smile to reel her in.
"Hey they're right y'know. Everything is gonna be ok, I promise."
Promises sacred as they were didn't lessen the pain. Her vision blurred at another stab of pain, another push as her entire body pulsed. Her lower back had it the worst; every ounce of pain coursed from that white hot center until Catra was sure she'd been reduced to jelly, if she could ever see straight again. Another scream tore her throat. Her body arched.
The hiss Adora shot out as Catra's claws dug into her hand registered faintly. She could hear Entrapta babbling some science jargon. Scorpia's frantic voice came beside Entrapta's assembly of rumbling tech no doubt worried over everything; that still didn't help an entire baby kicking out of her. Didn't anyone get that? Now wasn't the time for anything other than whatever got this tiny person out.
Catra screamed and shook and writhed and no matter how many times Entrapta said push it blurred together. She let her head loll sideways in exhaustion. Adora stared at her seized by panic that could do nothing but watch, and hated it. It scratched at the unfocused rage gathering around her like storm clouds. Whatever she said fell hazy on Catra's ears because not a moment behind Catra yelled,
"Next time you're doing this; when this is over I'm kicking your ass AdorAHHGGUUHHH!!!"
Several deep breaths and pushes later a wail robbed anything she could say. Every voice stopped, every head turned and every ear strained. It came again. A high pitched wail echoed through the room. A baby's first cry. There was no time then; no past nor future only the moments for each cry hurled into the world. She watched a shape writhe in Entrapta's arms at the foot of the bed. A flash of metal later and the umbilical cord was cut.
Everything remained a blur...then Entrapta handed her a squirming bundle. The baby rested against her easier than breathing. It was just, so right; one of the most right things Catra ever knew. Their fur matched her tan orange down to the slightly darker stripes. The hair is all Catra; she'd recognize that messy brown anywhere. It's when they blink at her for the first time, that's when Adora's blue eyes stare back.
Their hands are curled into fists and they fuss under her gaze. They blink once, twice, Catra finds herself counting everything. A purr deep enough to rattle them took her by surprise. At last her claws retracted from Adora's skin; she cradled their child between measured breaths. The instant she's released Adora doesn't waste a second coming closer.
They look at each other then their child then back again. Tears are the first thing they feel together followed by Adora's lopsided grin.
"Still wanna kick my ass?"
"Shut up and get in here dummy."
Catra's voice is hoarse but that doesn't lessen the spark in their kiss. Fingers tangle in Catra's sweaty hair and she's breathless when they pull away. There's a moment of silence until Entrapta gets the drop on them. Of course she does, she's Entrapta. They can spy the glint off her tape recorder.
"Just to confirm the baby is healthy at seven pounds eight ounces, a length of twenty centimeters, tail included, and a sex of male. Now the real question is have either of you chosen a name?"
The thick tendril of Entrapta's hair holding her recorder wiggles closer. Catra snarled on impulse and fought to not snap her teeth too.
"Don't hold that thing so close to Finn's face. The sound or whatever's gonna hurt his ears."
"Finn? You want to call him Finn? I thought you still weren't sure about any names." Adora said with the slightest confusion.
"Yeah I was but...I dunno it just feels right. Doesn't he look like a Finn? Hey Scorpia come over here! Does he or does he not look like a Finn?"
If it was possible for scorpions to move like they wanted to break the sound barrier without actually doing so, that was how Scorpia rushed over. Honestly Catra would laugh if she weren't cradling her son as if guarding her trove. Those enormous pincers are enough to shadow Finn's head as he attempts to swat one. Instead Adora gave him a finger to cling on. The tears streaking from Scorpia's eyes dripped waterfalls down her chin.
"Wildcat you're asking me what he looks like? Oh of course he's a Finn, look at that handsome little face and that tiny nose! And his hair! Catra that one is all you oh that stuff is gonna break so many combs I tell ya. He's even got his claws already; you guys have a mama's boy on your hands gosh. I remember when Flora hatched, ah good times..."
"Scorpia..."
"Huh? Oh sorry Wildcat yeah he's definitely a Finn! What'd ya think Adora? Entrapta?"
"Hmm...Baby Log Day, well day of birth. Catra has asked me if her newborn resembles a 'Finn'. As the only knowledge I'm aware of regarding this relates to fish, I will say yes. Fish and their fins are something cats enjoy and thus it is logical."
The line of stares fixed on her made Entrapta press her recorder.
"Addendum, it is also very cool."
"Adora?" Catra called.
Every stare turned toward her awaiting a verdict. Finn gurgled and squirmed when she met his stare. There fell a moment of purest silence.
"Yeah. Finn is a good name. We'll get him ready to propel through life."
There was an echoing 'thwack' when Catra smacked Adora's hair poof; Adora's giggling poured out even as Glimmer, Bow, and every Princess they knew finally appeared. Catra's bed was rushed by a crowd acting like they'd never seen an infant. Then again, no one had seen anyone of Catra's race all her life. Not that she'd asked around.
"I'm so sorry we couldn't come sooner! The meeting ran into overtime but we're here now. Where's the baby?"
Glimmer moved through the parting crowd as she spoke; her body radiated energy while her eyes scanned around. She and Bow must've shared the same mind because they were the first to study Finn. Their jaws dropped.
"So. Darned. Cute. Those ears." Bow said. His eyes practically sparkled with joy.
Glimmer looked at Catra, then Adora with a face that fought a hold on restraint.
"You guys can hold him. Just don't crowd his space." Catra said smiling.
Those were the words that released whatever collective breath everyone held. Finn was passed around the room leaving praise and awe in his wake. Everyone had their own opinions; so much so that the buzz of their chatting built Catra's headache right as Finn was finally returned. Frosta was yelling about how to shape a commemorative ice sculpture; Perfuma created several bouquets now burying Adora. Bow, Entrapta, and Scorpia stood putting their heads together discussing proper baby nutrition over the next year.
When she checked Finn his face grew red then wrinkled and that's when it hit. A full strength wail. The kind of cry to break noise into silence and validate Catra's agitation. Something resembling peace slid over the tension settling in the air. Adora managed to roll out of the flowers before looking at Catra. A nod in response is all she needs to wrangle everyone away. When the door closes for the last time only the three of them remain.
Finn continued crying though nowhere as intense. Catra took a deep breath, then she held the infant face down, tucked his arms across his chest, and finished by holding his bottom. She had to give herself credit; not a single mistake, Perfuma may as well have done it for her. The cries quieted immediately and ceased when she gently rocked him. In a minute he lay snuggled on her chest. Sleep made his eyes fight to stay open though he soon lost.
"He curls up just like you."
"Yeah. We'll see if he keeps the whole castle awake with your snoring." Catra replied chuckling.
Adora is beside her in seconds with that lopsided grin. The bed gets crowded bearing the three of them but it'll manage.
"I'm not an awful snorer ok; everyone's gonna survive when they sleep. They've done it this long."
"So you admit it's a problem."
"No! Anyway that's not important look at his chubby cheeks. That's all him."
"Babe, I think that's something every baby has. Did you forget all seven of Scorpia's kids, or even Bow and Glimmer's daughter?"
"Of course not but you're not looking at them. We made those. They're perfect and adorable as much as the rest of him."
Adora stroked Finn's hair and nestled against Catra's side. Together they yawned then laughed.
"Tired?"
"I gave birth Adora of course I am."
"Heh, sorry. Nighty night you two."
She's long learned Adora's penchant for sleeping hard enough to make the dead jealous. How exactly she can turn it on and off yet thrash restlessly, still waking up then tackling an entire day? After years Catra might never know and, some days, didn't care to anymore. It simply was. That was Adora, always rushing to do everything, solve every problem, take every blow. No matter how much their loved ones- no matter how many times Catra told her otherwise some piece stayed. It was like an infection molded into Adora's skin.
God did Catra still hate it. If Finn inherited that...
Her body ached worse than getting dragged by rope. She would know; Glimmer had been the one pulling after all.  In those days of war and violence whipped into a storm this feeling was nothing new. Yet it was. Now there came a new tired setting on her bones. The tired from achieving something bigger than herself yet selfish in origin. Well, maybe the selfish part hadn't changed.
Maybe she really can be good not just do good. Adora began to snore as Catra let sleep claim her.
When Finn turns one year old Catra has settled into the race of parenthood. There's feeding time, nap time, diaper changing, the once a week checkups, and making a fool of herself so Finn laughs. One day passes with the funneled energy of several; no longer can she rise with the sun into a cage of rumination. Finn dictates her snapping awake on whims as random as the harried sleep itself.
She can't mope she just can't, he won't let her. He needs her and for the first time even beyond Adora, Catra accepts it. Not hesitating or doubting or anything else. Not the painstaking slip and climb over struggle after struggle until she and Adora were finally level. Finn right now is only a creature of needs; without her...she doesn't want to think further. There is finally someone for whom she can only give at the very beginning. The stress is worth it, it's not about her faults.
Perfuma notices of course. The way she walks ever eager into their meetings, even with eye-bags, stands far more confident than the hesitation that made her drag her feet. From the stares she gets now it's as if persecution and guilt lie only in her shadow. At least, that's what she thinks Perfuma means when one meeting she says,
"You look radiant Catra! Have you been keeping up with your personal letters?"
The morning light shines behind Perfuma making her hair resemble a glow. Combined with her chipper voice and pristine skincare (Seriously how did she keep up with seven kids at her heels?) Catra would be getting a headache right now. The old her would think Perfuma above her wielding such composure, such carefree grace. The her of the present instead replies weary but smiling.
"I have. For real this time too. No more skipping days."
"Oh lovely, I'm glad you're coming around. Self reflection and forgiveness can be so liberating; never forget you're allowing yourself space and patience. Walk with me."
She's heard those words enough to make her head spin, but now they land in her heart. A warmth seeps in the way she thinks Perfuma always intended. If she had to reflect now as they pass Scorpia's gardens, she wouldn't call messy hair, tired eyes, and what might be clothes from two days ago radiant. Perfuma probably wasn't being literal.
The trails of Perfuma's green shawl (Seemingly more fluttery today than usual; like butterfly wings if she had to compare) stop inside a wide room. Catra knows which pillow to sit on and in seconds Perfuma is across her. Their eyes meet then close before performing a basic breathing exercise. One breath in and Catra gathers her worries, one pause, on the exhale her body relaxes.
Her eyes open and find Perfuma doing the same. The ear to ear smile on her face still unnerves Catra like a pinprick; it's strange to be so happy in a world built on entropy. Catra's allowed that hesitation, right? No she's being an idiot again; she's seen Perfuma a mess, back when Scorpia and all her people contorted under Horde Prime's marching orders, under the chips once burrowed in their flesh.
Regardless she'd never given up then. She hadn't been Catra running away the minute she projected doubt on Adora. She shook her head and sighed. This was getting nowhere. Of course for her part Perfuma sat in silence, waiting for as much time as Catra needed. She smiled shyly at that.
"Sorry got lost in reflecting I guess."
"It's alright Catra that's what we're here for. Do you want to share your thoughts?"
"I think you already know after this long." Catra licked her lips nervously.
"I don't mind listening."
A long pause. She read nothing but openness in Perfuma's eyes.
"You know I've said before I was jealous of you, unnerved even. How could anyone stay so happy when the world hurts? Well now I think I understand. There's no point in dwelling on my pain. Sure I can feel it, acknowledge it, but it'll pass again. Letting it control me when it's something I'll carry forever is exhausting. All I've done then is hurt myself when for once no one else wants to. That's what Finn's made me  realize."
She finished with a sigh and slackened shoulders; a woman spent at last of a pointless barrier. Isolation was no longer a badge of honor; it never had been. Perfuma wore genuine surprise like she'd heard something profound, not Catra stating the obvious. When Perfuma next spoke the words poured out afraid to stop. Afraid, Catra senses, that Catra will bolt away in embarrassment.
"I'm proud of you that's the most you've shared all at once yet. And it sounds like it truly means self-love. You're allowing vulnerability and have accepted a truth. We are all works in progress."
"Thanks. I guess I have." The tears flowing down Catra's face make her voice wobble.
"Would you like a hug?"
With a nod Catra opened her arms and wept into Perfuma's dress; she wept the choked yet earnest sobs of a child. She felt a hand pat her hair.
"What happened when you were a child, it's not your fault."
There comes a pause where Catra stiffens then pulls back but not away. Her watery eyes glisten under the light while the rest of her trembles. Her lips quiver wanting to fight a new sob on instinct; it makes her teeth grit. None of it is hostile, Catra stares at Perfuma who again brings down the axe on the final barrier tainting her heart. Despite herself the words are out; Shadow Weaver installed that defense mechanism in her, denial.
"It is...it is."
"It's not your fault."
"But it is! I deserved it because I couldn't fight back!"
"It's not your fault."
"It...I...did."
Catra's face scrunched under the weight of the lie. She gets a solemn head shake in response. The sick sensation in her chest crumbles and her body feels no stronger than jelly. This time she clings back in Perfuma's embrace. She wails. Perfuma's reassurance pierces the scared girl inside gentle as sunshine.
"It's not your fault."
When the flood within her passes they mulled over tea. The silence now settled almost as comfortable as being with Adora. If Catra thought harder on it though, maybe silences themselves didn't need Adora to be good. Maybe the truth is Adora isn't the only bond to believe in; the others have waited on Catra long enough. She feels a pang of guilt at that. It flickers then dies when she hears the question,
"How are you and Finn? You mentioned him earlier."
"Kinda speaks for itself just looking at me y'think? But uh, sorry. It's been great; busy every second and sometimes I wanna tear my hair out but...in the end I really do like being a mom. It's not just about loving Finn and having him with Adora either. It's also like...I dunno..."
"Like starting over; a second chance?"
"Yeah...yeah I think it is." Catra smiled.
"The advice I can give for that is don't forget you're still guiding him. Parenting with compassion and trust will help you both, but he must find himself and make his choices."
She had nothing to add other than slight alarm. Then the weight behind the words settled, planted seeds in her thoughts. She stared out the window drinking her tea; her mind drifted and for once the peace of it wasn't strange.
When Finn is two years old he shivers in her arms. The storm sent another sheet of rain beating against the castle. Grey covers the window glass and another lightening flash dimly illuminates the room. In the span of a blink it's gone; Finn  mewled stuffing part of Catra's shirt in his mouth. Her hand ran through his hair. That seemed to relax his hold.
He looked up at her with Adora's wide blue eyes and for an instant Catra remembers being six, Adora's blanket her only comfort on nights like this.
"It's a thunderstorm Finn. I know it sounds scary but it'll pass ok? It always has before. You were too little to remember."
"Where's Mommy?"
She hears the fear getting ahold of him; she answers a touch too fast. It takes everything in her hoping he didn't notice.
"With Auntie Glimmer remember? They're meeting about adult stuff. We have to wait."
"I want her here."
"I know Finn, I know. She's coming. You're ok with me. Nothing bad will happen. Mommy's coming soon."
He nodded and though he whimpered he concentrated on Catra alone. At the next roar of thunder however he stiffened with his tail gone frizzy. The door opened bringing a stripe of light and Adora's unmistakable silhouette. Immediately Finn sprang out of Catra's arms to tackle Adora's legs. Catra hears her gasp then laugh softly as she kneels.
"Mommy! Be She-Ra!"
"Hey there to you too Finn. Why do you want She-Ra out?"
"Make bad sounds go away."
"It's the weather, I don't control that. Weren't you safe with Mama? Look she's waiting for us and I bet she stayed the whole time."
"But I want Mama and Mommy..."
Catra left bed and kneeled beside Adora. She ruffled Finn's hair; his tears were gone with a swipe of her thumb. Adora held his hands smiling while Catra went on.
"It's ok to be scared. We won't leave you not ever."
"Even when one of us isn't here with you, remember we love you. Think real hard about us when you're scared and all the bad stuff will go away."
Finn sniffled, swallowed, fumbled to speak those words they knew were sacred.
"You promise?"
"Yes." They reply together.
More thunder cracks the air signaling another swell of hissing rain. She watched as he froze squeezing his eyes shut. His hands balled into fists; he didn't flinch or cry when the storm gentled again. Now he stood trembling but no less brave. The warmth spreading through Catra was mirrored in the indescribable pride on Adora's face. She reached for her hand and it was held.
"Like that?" Finn asked, staring at them as if everything hinges on this moment.
"Just like that."
Catra kisses his forehead; it's no time at all until they hug him close. His heartbeat calms under their embrace and she purrs; it's always as hard as the day he was born. The purr she feels back widens her eyes then-
"Mama why're you crying?"
"She's happy you did it, right Catra?"
"Yeah...I'm happy Finn."
She shivers at Adora's kiss on her cheek. The touch of her breath tickling when she whispers almost makes Catra purr, for a reason neither can say aloud. She wraps her tail around Adora's wrist and listens.
"I'll get him to bed ok. Won't be long."
Catra mumbles her reply against her lips,
"I know."
They kiss and though it's a second before Adora pulls away, Catra knows peace.
At three years old Finn runs through the halls whooping and hollering. The stuffed bear glides through the air in his grasp. She knows Mr. Snuggles will need a wash when the day's done. Cupping her hands around her mouth she gently calls after.
"Don't run so fast you'll trip. Watch where you're going."
"Yeah Mama I know!"
Of course the thud she expected comes not an instant later. Even if he landed on carpet her blood pounds in panic; she sprints light on her feet toward his side. No second is wasted righting him from laying flat on his belly. She checks his arms, his legs, his face, the back of his head is fine too. He holds his wrist looking down ashamed.
"My head hurts."
"It's alright we'll get some medicine before seeing Mommy. Next time watch out ok? I might not have been here to help."
He nodded but still won't meet her eyes. Her expression falls. She sits with her hand giving his shoulder a reassuring squeeze; her tail twitched nervously. Finn is silent. Far more than if he acted up or felt too embarrassed. The air itself feels heavier as if to breathe means starting a count down before down becomes up and left is right. Her voice shakes ever so slightly. Was this because of her?
"Finn? What's wrong? Does it hurt real bad?"
"Auncle Dee Tee told me something that made me feel funny. Flora and Angella said boys get hurt a lot when they play. B-But I like girl games with them too! When I fell I remembered what Auncle Dee Tee said."
"That's just silly there aren't 'boy' and 'girl' games. Just games. What'd Auncle say?"
"They said that too. They said nobody has to be a girl or boy if they don't want to. They said a big word like 'nuhncun-foming' I think."
She hears footsteps round the corner, a walk she could pick out anywhere. Adora stops then assesses; she wastes no time coming to them. Immediately her face is knit in worry and concentration. Catra knows that look better than herself. The look of a soldier, of years honed as a commanding officer, the look her fantasies once replicated dreaming of their conquest of Etheria...it's never appeared serene as it does now.
It reminds her not for the last time she's not alone.
"What's wrong? Are you hurt Finn? I knew I heard something bump on my way over."
"He tripped and fell but it's not serious. I checked already. He just has a headache."
"Good. C'mon let's go get medi-"
"Adora wait. He had something important he was saying. Finn? Can you tell Mommy what you told me?"
His expression finally lights up again; courage gathered when he stands straighter and stares at them firm.
"When I fell I remembered what Auncle told me. They said some people don't feel like they're just a boy or girl. My girl friends said boys fall a lot playing; I like their girl stuff where we don't fall a lot too! I wanna...I wanna be like Auncle. Auncle sounds like me."
They sat and the silence turned to awe. They glanced at one another then at Finn, who stood in utmost seriousness. Double Trouble's words floated to the surface of Catra's memories. She had to step outside her own head right? Well this time the world did it well enough for her. Adora as usual is the first to make a move.
"What do you want us to call you?"
"I'm Finn! I don't wanna be a boy or a girl I wanna be both! I wanna do everything I like as me. Can I be 'nunhcuhnfoming' too?"
To their surprise they chuckle as Finn looks on, conviction dropping into worry. Catra grinned and pulled Finn into a hug.
"You can be whatever you want kid including nonconforming. We're not gonna say no to anything like that."
"Do you want us to still call you 'He'?" Adora said in a tone that announces she's not worrying herself sick for once.
"Nuh uh! Auncle uses 'They'."
"Then that's what we'll use too. Thanks for telling us Finn."
Finn, they, beam from ear to ear. They picked up and dusted off Mr. Snuggles holding him close. They purr echoing through the hall; by instinct Catra joins in while Adora plants kisses all over Finn's cheeks.
"Does your head still hurt?"
"A little..."
"Let's go make it better then."
Finn is four when their troublemaking streak starts to shine. They let Adora chase them through the back gardens at a sprint. It's an unspoken dare to crown who's faster and watching from the sidelines, Catra doesn't need to guess it's Finn. Like what she imagined of any child of hers Finn scampers up a tree next. They wave a toy and blow a raspberry down at Adora who's panting for dear life. Her poor fool never stood a chance.
Adora stands hunched over, her finger raised to call a time out. She's still gathering her breath when Catra hears her force out words as she walks toward them both.
"Ok give Mommy a break for...five minutes...or forever. Ugh."
"You're too slow so I win!"
They watch as Finn sticks their tongue out again. Catra kneels to pat Adora's shoulder. She plants a kiss in her hair and grins.
"Hate to say it but I told you they'd beat you. Give it up Adora."
"I'll never...understand...how you two...do it...so unfair."
"Only She-Ra can win a race with me Mommy. If you're She-Ra it's really hard to keep up."
Still wheezing Adora glanced at Catra in defeat. A shrug is all she gets in response. Finn sits on a branch above them swinging their legs, the embodiment of confidence. Then they do something that throws off even Catra; they hang from their perch by the tail. Upside down Finn pays no heed to their gaping Mama and instead teases Adora with another raspberry. She falls on her ass yelping.
A choked giggle left Catra before rising to laughter. By the time she's full on snorting she rolls in the grass; upside down Adora scowls at them both but it's all in fun. The way she sees her blush makes her nerves go fluttery. She doesn't need to be told when their eyes meet and Catra knows it's mutual. Before anything can come of it Finn lands on the ground effortlessly.
She watches them tug Adora's sleeve; the fake modesty and flattering lilt they're piling on too thick gives them away. The fact that they can hold the performance this well is far more a Catra thing than Adora. She feels hesitant pride bubble within her. Could she have that knowing where it came from?
"Mommy my toy got stuck up there, can She-Ra get it? Because she's faster and stuff."
"Finn I can't keep transforming all week."
"Pleeease? It's the last day today; you said I could ask sometimes."
"Damnni-uh I mean I remember. Fine but only because you asked nicely."
Catra doesn't need to be an Entrapta-level genius to hear the unspoken, 'And because I totally lost too.' Finn definitely  hears it by the satisfaction in their grin. With a resigned sigh Adora straightened and stretched out a hand. From the bottom of her lungs she bellowed,
"For the Honor of Greyskull!"
A blinding light engulfed Adora from the outline of a golden sword. Catra still had no idea where it always came from. It was of course magic however; you never had to question that kind of thing. She figured that was why it felt comforting, familiar, compared to hard numbers. Most of all, she muses as the light dims, magic embodies everything Adora has been long before the sword.
The light leaves dissolving into rainbow trails. They outline She-Ra's massive form towering at eight feet. Her arms are almost as thick as the tree branches themselves when she begins to climb. Finn watched with their jaw hanging and eyes wide. Their fists rest against their teeth as if every transformation will be the last each time; the anticipation mixed with joy is almost palpable when it infects Catra.
She nudges them while Adora gets tangled in leaves. Finn's rapture breaks and they flash her a knowing smile.
"You love being sneaky huh?"
"She-Ra is cool!"
They look up together and find Adora fumbling not to fall. Though She-Ra carries a noble poise Adora is very much the one nervously sweating. Catra grinned.
"She's very cool."
Adora successfully lands without a scratch; the toy rocket is the size of a river stone in She-Ra's large hand. In an instant  it's back to scale when She-Ra is dismissed, a gold afterglow outlining Adora. It hits Catra then that Finn has grown at level with Adora's waist. When did that happen over the years?
"One missing toy rescued from an evil tree. It won't be eating any more any time soon."
"Thanks Mommy. No more She-Ra for a little bit."
"Right. Mommy needs breaks just like She-Ra does too."
Catra takes Adora's hand and wraps her tail around her. Her purr is soft though outmatched by the gentle kiss she gives her wife. She glanced at Finn who waits expectantly; the toy is already forgotten in favor of another game. Catra chuckles.
"Ok Finn you've had enough of bossing Mommy. This time I'll race you home."
"Loser has to give up dessert!"
"Sure kid. Ready set go!"
Like a bullet Catra sprints down the low hill; she barely hears Finn's call above the wind. In seconds they're right behind and she finds herself laughing carefree into the dusk.
Finn is five when their fur becomes their first taste of responsibility. Their tail is a mess of frizz most mornings; their thick hair resembles a mop fighting against every tame comb they own. Catra does her best to guide them, but she hasn't been five in twenty years. The memories since remain dark and pressed under the claws of greater horrors. Had she ever had time to brush herself seriously then? Not a relevant question; this isn't the time for self grieving.
Finn fusses, tries again, then scowls. They look at her with a plea in their eyes. Catra blinks then finds them slumping shoulders and lips quivering. Their hair seems messier than before for every wrong stroke. It takes her longer than she'd like to notice the budding tears.
"Hey it's ok we'll keep trying. It's hard at first but you can do it."
"Bet it's easy for you Mama."
"Why's that?"
"Because you never get messy. Your hair is always pretty."
Catra beckons and they come within her reach. She wipes their tears, smoothes their tangles best she can. They stare into her eyes with that intensity only they can muster.
"I used to be worse than you. When I was your age I had no one helping me."
"Not even Mommy?"
Catra laughed quiet and gentle, always gentle.
"She tried but she was as small as you. And we know Mommy doesn't look the same; she didn't know how. Do you know how old I was when I learned to keep my hair pretty? Really got good at it?"
Finn shook their head. She could sense the sadness give way to curiosity, to a rising hope.
"I was already a grown up. Wayyy bigger than you y'know? If it took me so long there's no rush. You keep trying until it works ok."
"Ok..."
"Let's start over. Just watch me first."
Time passes in a haze enough for her to learn Finn took after her old temper; step by patient step her hands once drenched in the blood of another life calm them to retry. They break for lunch and laugh together, their mistakes now harmless behind them. This, Catra has learned, is completion.
Princess Prom makes everyone nervous and excited equally. She watches Finn, taller than most other ten year olds, adjust their tie. She smiles remembering how many they'd tried on that morning without complaint. How when the right one came along they'd strutted prideful for her and Adora's opinion. They fidget flexing their hand and rocking on their heels. She can't blame them; the announcer's droning speech packs more formality than Catra thought was possible.
Put simply, it's boring, and they both fight a yawn. Adora doesn't notice them tap their feet together, one leading the other following, until another six minutes that pass like hours. She shushes them but when another minute crawls by she joins in. The three of them form a jagged rhythm while holding back giggles.
When the solemnity is done away with and the dance floor opens they lose Finn to their friends. She sends them off with a cheek kiss and Adora's blessing to have fun, then they're alone. They whisk themselves to the snack bar; she watches Adora gorge on tiny food like she's taken Entrapta's appetite for herself. Smirking as she leans against the table she knows Adora can feel her gaze.
"Alright Princess charge your battery any more and I'll dance by myself."
"Noa faish wahit fo me!" Adora forced out through a mouthful.
"Hey easy there. What's that translate to?"
Adora swallows hard and snorts at her.
"I said no fair wait for me. Now you're getting payback."
"Oh yeah? I'd like to see you try."
Before she can register it a cupcake is smashed into her mouth. She can hear Adora laughing even when Catra serves one back in retaliation. By the time they've wasted three cupcakes they don't hear Scorpia saunter over. They nearly tumble face first into her serving tray.
"Whoa slow down guys! Party just started to get so worked up. You two sure love having fun."
"Sorry Scorpia didn't see you there. Catra wants to hurry and dance; I want to savor what Entrapta had prepared tonight."
Catra stuck out her tongue and laughed when Adora elbowed her side in jest. When they look over Scorpia has forgone food entirely. She stares at them, her eyes glistening from would be tears.
"You guys are just adorable did you know that?"
"You remind us all the time." Catra replied and wrapped an arm around Adora.
"Actually uh, on second thought, I've got icing down my dress. Excuse me ladies."
Adora gives her a peck of a kiss before disappearing. Catra watched her go spellbound by the soft lights cast on everyone. Adora's outline is dreamlike, Catra can hear her breath hitch. Then far too suddenly she's gone. It's funny, she no longer feels the pain that once tore through her fast as lightening. Maybe parting no longer means goodbye. She knows she always knew.
"Y'know Wildcat I gotta say I've never seen you look this happy. Well happier than that time in the Crimson Wastes. Oh or when Finn was born. It's nice."
"Heh. We're in the same boat then. I can't even tell when it started."
"Wanna know how I can tell this time?"
The intensity in Scorpia's tone made Catra straighten. She stopped trying to eat another cupcake and met her gaze.
"It's the eyes. They're so clear these days. They're empty, not in a bad way. Like...it's like you can take on anything. You've got resolve but it's not angry."
"Calm?"
"Yeah. Calm and whole. That's some strength even I don't think I have yet. Your eyes can see through anything."
"Geez way to praise a girl. I think I get it though. Adora's been saying something similar. Glimmer, Bow, Perfuma...everyone brings it up somehow. They act like I'm supposed to know just haven't told them." Catra smiles around a bite of her snack. It was achingly sweet yet she closed her eyes and tasted the love put in.
"Of course they see it too. Every truly strong person is kind."
Catra's eyes widen. For a moment she moves as if to speak then instead smiles, content. Her heart feels light as a feather.
She spots Adora returning through the crowd. Everyone parts reverently for the savior of the galaxy; to Catra it's another homecoming. They don't need the titles or praise; at last having each other, having themselves, is enough.
Scorpia takes her leave just as Adora emerges. The teasing look she wore before is replaced by excitement; the kind that simply is because it can be. Without prompting she offered Catra her hand. She's seen this scene countless times in as many settings. She takes it.
"Ready for that dance I owe you?"
It happens in an instant; Catra reads her eyes. They're calm, resolved, kind. Her reflection stares back within their clarity. She smiles. She hopes Finn will have those eyes someday.
"Always am."
