I kept putting this off because I pretty much agree with everybody else's takes on this, but I just want to get my opinions out anyways

So right off the bat we get THIS line from Blitzo

wow, gee, i wonder how that must feel like. Oh how i wonder

Anyways Stolas goes on directly to say that he doesn’t want to talk to Blitzo right know.

And you know what, thats vaid. All Stolas is saying in this entire interaction is “It’s too soon and i still mad at you, leave.” And i’m sorry but thats not an unreasonable request, especially after a fight that big. I was actually really impressed with how Stolas voiced his feelings thorough the entire confrontation: “I don't want to do words with you, so how about you respect that” “Seeing you right know is hard” “I don’t want to feel worse than I already do” “Im uncomfortable with how you’re speaking to me” This is textbook definition of healthy language.

And Blitzo for some reason just can’t respect that. Because he’s so dead set on getting things back to the status quo, what’s comfortable and familiar to him: this transactional relationship with no feelings, that he ignore Stolas’s requests blindly.

I saw someone claim that the show was trying to make it seem like Blitzo likes Stolas’s abuse, and I don’t think that’s what’s happening at all. Blitzo loves Stolas, that much is clear. But that doesn’t mean it’s healthy. And sometimes going back to an unhealthy relationship can feel better than without it, because that’s what’s familiar, what’s comfortable. Even if it’s not good for you. Especially for Blitz who already has so many abandonment insecurities. This actually happens a lot in real life and Im glad that HB decided to explore it.

But Stolas doesn’t get off the hook that easily

My dude, WHAT? Listen, Stolas, you are my favorite part of this episode. Nay, this show. But JESUS CHRIST WOULD EVEN AN OUNCE OF SELF AWARENESS KILL YOU???? “Impish little plaything,” “itty itty imp,” “you are so cute when you are serious,” “Blitzy,” none of that ringing a bell? SERIOUSLY??

Ok in all seriousness I think this line really emphasizes that Stolas is completely ignorant to the very prevalent power dynamic between them. He has no idea that all these actions and things he says to Blitzo hurt him. And that doesn’t makes it ok. Listen, Stolas has demonstrated that he’s willing to put in the work to improving himself. Just now I mentioned how his language changed to be more constructive and effective. The Stolas from the pilot and the Stolas in the last few episode are drastically different people. What Stolas needs is his own call-out episode, someone to give him a slap in the face and say “What you did is F’ed up” and for him to APOLOGIZE to Blitzo.

I have a bit less to say about the Striker stuff, I honestly don't think t was too relavent to the conversation, it’s just more well-written angst with fantastic animation and expressions. And seeing Blitzo slowly realize he screwed up was great too.

Unrelated but this probably to the biggest laugh out of me this episode

Brandon Rogers and Bryce Pinkham continue to be the best voice acting pair I’ve seen in a long time

and guys we FINALLY got Blitzo airing out his feelings to Stolas, completely dumping everything on the table. And then he just backpedals so violently because he’s scared of letting people see his true self, in fear they might hurt him. Also Stolas’s face be like “that escalated quickly…”

To be honest i could go on and on about all the little charachter detains and mannerisms, the animation, and how BEAUTIFUL the colors are. I want to talk about the section at the party, but this is already long enough. I might make a part two if i find the time, but those were just my thoughts

About the whole who's the mother in the unholy family topic, actually neither. But who you assign it to depends of your relationship with your mom figure or depiction of moms you're used to seeing in media. I'm leaning towards Lestat as a classic evil stepmom who forces Cluadia to becomes his dad's caretaker. But they both have mom moments at different times.

About the whole feminization of Louis which some fans take way too seriously, again they're both men. But as Florence aptly put it, their nails are manicured. And honestly looking for the woman in the relationship is kind of a Florence take (rip you'd loved fauxmoi).

Regarding the housewife comment which is something Claudia says to Louis to rile him up against Lestat and people take way too literally, show me when this man washed a single dish? He was a hoarder and mostly just ignored his husband that's literally the opposite of a dotting housewife.

But more seriously, even though Lestat is the more powerful person in the relationship, the abused housewife dynamic hinges on sexism and socialization of women that Louis just doesn't exprience. Mainly:

Women are socialized to associate their value with being wives and mothers. They are judged more harshly for divorce and are expected to put up with a lot more to save the marriage. It was legal and common for men to beat their wives and women were expected to put up with it. Louis was socialized to be the patriarchal husband and the provider. And society was not encouraging Louis to keep sodomizing with a white man. Society very much wanted him to not be in a biracial gay relationship and go settle with Hazel instead. On both sides.

There are a system of laws and social roles put into place to keep women dependant on men. Both in terms of financial dependence and the spaces single women are allowed to coccupy. Louis didn't have Lestat's fuck you money then but he was born rich and as a man he was allowed to own and invest that money. We never see him not be well off. He could comfortably live as a single man and face way less judgment than he did with Lestat.

I hate it but Claudia venturing out on her own as a young looking woman and a less physically powerful vampire and having to deal with bruce vs Louis hunting the gay population by cruising shows the contrast well between what men and women usually face in society.

This whole thing feels like another way for Louis fans who are super attached to the idea of him as a helpless victim to give Louis even more disadvantages than he actually had. He is a man. He is rich. He was a pimp. Instead of dragging sexism into this, stick to Louis sacrificed himself by *insert event* posts idk.

About the whole baby trapping argument, Louis is the one who wants Cluadia. He's the one who makes promises Lestat wants to hear to coax and convince him and Lestat gives in and does it for Louis. If anyone baby trapped anyone it was Louis baby trapping himself. Except the baby convinced Louis to finally leave and Lestat was ready to abort it a few decades in.

Also I'd argue that since they mostly live outside of human society, Lestat's main power over them is being an older, more powerful vampire which is a role that can be occupied by a woman. Although vampires still follow human patriarchal norms so probably not many women became coven leaders and it's also unlikely a woman would've acted the way Lestat did.

Also interesting that the qualities Louis displays that get called feminine by fans, mainly being passive which yikes, are actually not a main trait in the one female charachter in the show or the women of vc. But more female fans seem to identify with Louis than they do with Claudia because there are more depressed girls on this website (who low key want to fuck Lestat) than plot murder girls.

While watching the show, I actually realized that there are a lot of similarities between Gabriel and Marinette and Emilie and Adrien

As someone who has read the leaked scripts, what I wrote will contain little information about the story of Gabriel and Emilie, and if you do not want to get not even a little bit of spoiler, don’t read this

Let's start with Gabriel and Marinette ,

These two characters are the main protagonist and antagonist of the show, they have a lot of parallels even if they are the characters with the most irrelevant personalities on the show

* Gabriel is one of the most famous fashion designers in the world and Marinette is a young girl who wants to be a fashion designer.

* Marinette is the daughter of a middle-class and family despies all the charachters with rich and powerful family backgrounds and Gabriel wasn't born rich, as we learned on Style Queen, Audrey discovered him and she said he wouldn't have had the big name in the fashion world without her

* The key point of the two characters is that they are obsessively and passionately in love with their lover, they would do anything for that person.

* They have deified the person they love a little bit in their minds , Marinette's entire room is covered with photos of Adrien and Gabriel has a huge portrait of Emilie in his study room , a statue of her in his garden, and small pictures framed throughout in his house

* They both use the person they love as inspiration in their art , Marinette watches with great admiration as Adrien puts on her own design hat in Gabriel’s fashion show and we see Gabriel sketching Emilie in the Felix episode, and he dedicates his 100th collection to her in the Ephemeral episode

* Both characters tend to have a tantrum when they experience something bad

* Two of the characters have another love interest that in love with them but allows them to be with the person they love for their happiness , Luka to Marinette and Nathalie to Gabriel

* The family of the person they both love doesn't want them because they don't came from upper-class , Both characters do not have a wealthy background during their youth, and this was disliked by the upper-class family of the person they fell in love with

and in the scripts of Episode 24, Kagami and Felix put on a show telling the story of Gabriel and Emilie and we gonna learn that Emilie was rejected from her family for being with Gabriel but she clearly doesn't care

In this scene where Kagami and Felix perform, their real names are not mentioned, they are referred to as "The Curious Princess" and "The Tailor"

Kagami : Like the curious princess and the tailor before them, they simply wanted to be free and love each other

In this scene, we learn that Gabriel and Emilie are in a forbidden love just like Marinette and Adrien and they are not allowed to love each other.

Let's move on to Emilie and Adrien

Obviously Emilie is a character who hardly ever speaks on the show so it's hard to find many parallels like Gabriel and Marinette but they do have some similar traits.

* They both came from rich and powerful families , Adrien's father is one of the most famous fashion designers in the world and his mother is an aristocrat and actress , The Graham De Vanilly’s are an aristocratic and noble Britsh family, and since her twin sister Amelie had a "Lady" title, she also had that title this means Emilie’s father is either a Duke or a Earl

* Adrien is a model working for his father's "Gabriel" brand and and Emilie at one point in her life worked for “Graham Films” which was owned by her own family

* According to Gabriel, they had similar personalities

“I’m sorry Ladybug, my son is just like his mother…too overly dramatic”

In Simon Says, Gabriel tells Chat Noir that no one can give him orders, but when Chat Noir shouts at him, he is shocked and suddenly starts to smile and says that Chat Noir's temper reminds him of someone and looks at the Emilie’s painting

* Clearly their wealthy and powerful families didn't want them to be with loved ones because of class differences and they both didn't care even though Adrien knew his father could see him, he took Marinette on a picnic date right outside his office and Emilie left her family

* This restrictive behavior of their family of these two characters clearly shows that both characters have a toxic family or a parent figure that doesn't want their happiness

* The two characters had very similar appearance (Obviously tho they are mother and son) And in a show that puts emphasis on the parallels of green eyes and blue eyes, two couples have that trait.

charachter rant: margaery tyrell

i just don’t get her character, or rather how geroge wrote her. and in the show, obviously she is gorgeous. i have watched a lot of people react to game of thrones and some were really put off by margaery and couldn’t figure out how to feel about her and some called her even crazy. maybe because i know that that’s just the style of acting nat does but looking back, i do agree.

but in the books, it’s the same. she has no personality?!?! and i get that maybe it’s because we didn’t get a pov from her (imagine if we did, i reaaally want that, to understand truly who she is inside), but even from the others pov, we get nothing more. we always get the calculated facade if i can say.

So the plan was to use her and sway Robert to cast Cersei aside. Looking like Lyanna, they knew that Robert might be swayed for his long lost love. But Ned, who knew her sister bemusedly says that she doesn’t resemble Lyanna. Why would George make this? Does it tell something about Lyanna? How she was used perhaps as a pawn? How Margaery‘s story will unfold? The Tyrells were reeeeally playing this game and honestly don’t they have shame?

And when Robert is dead, they play their cards right with Renly and she marries him.

Yes, they clearly want to have their blood on the iron throne. I guess the roses and Highgarden and Margaery paint a beautiful picture to make the people fawn over them.

So Margaery is shy and soft spoken and good natured. But that is all false. That definitely isn’t her actual personality. She is just a doll. I can’t figure it out her as a true person. Maybe that’s the point? I just feel disappointed.

So Margaery has been passed on from Robert to Renly, from Renly to Joffrey and from Joffrey to Tommen. Again i ask? Have they no shame? The people suuuurely should have start talking about her being passed on like this. Instead they love her. And I get it. It’s because of the food which is fair enough. But Tyrion literally thinks how Tyrells closed the roads which caused the lack of food and then opened them and offered it to be seen as saviors. But of course the people of Kings Landing are swayed and at the end of the day they probably just want peace and food. FAIRENOUGH. But they also gossip a lot, and I get the disdain for the Lannisters. But this is ridiculous and it should have been a cause for some gossip.

THIS IS WHAT I MEAN!!! She is very clever. But her personality is always fake to the world. It’s like she really is acting.

So it‘s giving Cersei no? It’s from these on that Margaery cracks up a little. When the raven comes, and Cersei tells her that Loras was injured, she wrenches free surprisingly to Cersei and tells her that he isn’t dead yet.

When Cersei does her plot and they take Margaery, they say that they have examined her and her maidenhead is broken. Pycelle also confirms that she asked for moontea if i believe.

So she isn’t this shy soft spoken angel. It’s all an act. And i get it everyone acts in Kings Landing, and lies. But she is a character brought up since book 1, and is the Queen now. I don’t get George writing her. It’s like she is this perfect Queen. And I am like how does she do it? Everyone has flaws. Every character.

And most of all, what does she feel? Being passed around for every chance to be a Queen? What about her desires, her romance desires, her living her own life. Is she mad at her Father and her family that they are using her like this? As far as I have seen she has a good relationship with her family. Her brothers are very sweet too, how do they allow doing this to her. I ask again about shame? Don’t they have any?

I guess i am just bothered by it all. and as i said, i can’t figure out margaery as a character. how can someone have this mask on for so long. it’s miniscule the times she has slipped. what about joffrey? how did she tame him, was she scared of him or not? Renly and Tommen are easier for her. What did she feel about marrying Robert. How is she such a good manipulator, so clever? I am not complaining that she is playing the game, or that she is very smart and that she is sexually active. I just mean that she can lie perfectly and act perfectly. it’s like she is a doll. i don’t see any side and any complexity to her. it’s like george just wrote her the way he needed a character to be but there is no depth. also another interesting bit:

Least favorite part about soul eater's 3 introductionary episodes?

Guess the cop out easy answer would be saying the excesisive fanservice, especially when it involves minors, but that is too obvious and boring as an answer.

But if I had to think for anything else...

I could say things like that one can feel that the world wasn't fleshed out yet and there is a kind of disconect between them and the "real" plot that starts after, with that I mean the whole Kishin madness thing - but eh, I dont think that plot consistency is the highest virtue, especially when they started as stand alone things and dumping anlot of lore before it was clear it would be a whole show would be execsive, especially when it would derail the charecterization and other things inside the one shots.

But speaking of charachterization, maybe that could be a flaw - I've seen the argument that Souls and Makas charachters are kinda flipped - with Maka being the one that doesnt rush into things, while in the show proper it was she who actually did a lot of dangerous things without a plan - but even then I never was bothered by that and one can interpret it as showing another side, especially of a Maka that is still kinda paralyzed with uncertanty after the divorce. Hell even Spirit saying things like "oh I care for Blair more than Maka", even if a bit too extreme and tonedeaf, could be seen as the start of his charachterization and arc and reason why Maka really dislikes him (but yeah maybe that part was a bit too extreme if I'm not misremembering some bad fantranslation lol)

So yeah, one other thing that may be kinda clunky for me is the whole contrivance of everybody ending up with zero souls - like I get it, its so everybody starts the series on even footing, or if it doesnt get picked up one still has that "the adventure continues feeling", but still, especially with Kid it felt kinda forced - but again on the other hand its not like a big deal and the comedic note of all the efforts being revoked do to incompetence kinda works too - especially with Soul and Maka once it later gets established that they were kinda still rookies (but again thats all prolly just cause all the shit wasnt planned, so I wont be a stickler)

So yeah, in the end I'm kinda sorry that this meandering answer doesnt have a satisfying conclusion. I think in the end the chapters all had self contained storys that established charachterizations and set up how the personalities could develope in the future while showing the wacky world of it all. I'm not even saying that I found them super engading, but at the same time its hard to find something obviously wrong - I guess one could say that BlackStars is the one with the most emotional resonance, cause its ironically the one least played for laughs and the one with the serious "choice", while the DtK one is mostly wacky and a cartoon - but that has its own appeal.

But maybe even that is kinda a blessing and a curse - the way Ohkubo tried to one up himself - so ok we first start with an actuall scythe, hence the theme, but then how do we one up that, oh a weapon that transforms into like 5 or how many others on demand, and then... Guesss two weapons and they are glocks!

Like one could arguee that maybe it leads to Maka and Soul being overshadowed - but even that isnt really true, because the scythe stayed iconic so yeah, in the end if you thought I had some brillian insight behind all this rambling:

Blue Exorcist Charachters as Mythical Creatures

Takezo was the pride of the Shima family. The perfect son. His father, Yaozo, was comfortable leaving the role of Head Hunter to Takezo. The boy was everything a Hunter was expected to be, a champion of humanity against the supernatural: strong, determined, intelligent, but also kind and compassionate. That hadn't changed after the attack, even though everyone thought it had. He'd been attacked at the back by a vengeful vampire, and though now dead, the guy left him a pretty special little present. Takezo suffered one excruciating night before passing away at dawn, but he was not dead. Oh no, maybe that would have been better. At the next sunset, his eyes opened and they were red. A newly-turned vampire is quite dangerous because he doesn't have a grip on his instincts yet and the Shima family was reasonably concerned about his new condition. But that was Takezo. So they tried to adapt, to endure. But the family's generations-old suspicion and resentment against supernatural creatures was hard to erase. And Takezo understood perfectly. He tried to behave at his best, to be even more efficient during the Hunts but it was of little use. A drastic reduction of contact with his family and, eventually, isolation were self-imposed. It was for the best.

Every Hunt was dangerous. Most of the time, the worst thing that could happen was losing a limb or a team member. This time Yaozo Shima, Head Hunter and head of the Shima family, was bewitched by a Succubus. When he awoke in his bed the next morning, he couldn't recollect how he had gotten there and his memories of the encounter were fuzzy.

🐍He shoved it off in favor of more important matters, such as the situation of his eldest son, Takezo. But 9 months later the reminder of that night showed up on the Shimas doorstep. A child. A baby with pointy ears and a tail. A demon. Yaozo still welcomed him and tried to explain the situation to his family, but none of its members could properly provide for the needs of the little demon. The Shima killed the supernatural, they didn't look after it. Well, now there were two exceptions to the rule and it seemed fitting when Takezo quickly warmed up to the boy and took it upon himself to raise him. He called him Renzo. However, the atmosphere in the house remained very tense and did no good to anyone. Reluctantly, one night Takezo took Renzo, the essential for living in two, his Khakkara and left the house where he was born and raised. It was for the best. He went beyond the sea, beyond the barrier of Blue Flames- for an infinite moment Takezo feared the Blue Flames would have consumed them but they were actually nice warm on his skin and baby Renzo giggled at the sensation- and into supernatural territory. He settled in the South mountains, where is dryer than in the East. In retrospect, perhaps Takezo hadn't thought it through that much. What did he know about raising children, let alone half-demon children? It happened that another, much older vampire was dealing with a similar situation. Shiro Fujimoto was a great help during Renzo's early life. Then came Yamantaka. The old demon with the snout of a skeletal goat and made of Black Flames was weak when 7-year-old Renzo first met him in the woods at the foot of his mountain and the two made a pact. They bonded together and, despite Takezo's initial concern, Yamantaka took care of Renzo, protecting him and helping him on his hunting trips. As a half-human, Renzo fed on emotions rather than on actions like a pureblood Succubus/Incubus, and less often, since human food complemented his diet very well. Turns out that black flames help a lot with the atmosphere of an Incubus attack. However, it must be said that Renzo liked to use his inheritance as an excuse to flirt with illustrious members of society. Many believed it and joked about it, Yukio didn't. But Renzo was sure it was different with Yukio, more real. And he's nothing but determined. He took after his father/brother in this, but Takezo's goal was to protect his son/brother because he knew that sooner or later the Hunters will arrive and, with them, the Shima family. The barrier of Blue Flames is growing weaker and weaker after all...

i wanted to say that, as a huge venus fan and also a next mutation enjoyer, im really glad u were the writer to introduce her characther to the comics, bc based on some tweets i have seen from u is easly to assume u have actually watched the next mutation, and its very clear that u actually know and understand the characther instead of just having a vague notion of who she is based on wikis or articles like so many people do, even with the fact that u werent legally allowed to use some things from the characther, i still think she does justice to the original nm venus and its a incredible take on the charachter !!! (i hope this doesnt sound weird, like im not bashing any other comic writer and saying that they would make venus bad, its mostly about how some fans seen to not exactly know who she is and just add her into their projects without actually caring about her, and im happy that in idw this doesnt happen and she is actually being written by someone that cares abt her as a characther, anyways just wanted to thank u for how good ur version of her is)

Glad you like what I've done with Venus, thanks! I'd been trying for quite a while to get her into the comic but kept running into legal obstacles and false starts, her introduction almost didn't happen but we got clearance at the last minute. Whew! And yeah I've watched Next Mutation, it gets a bad rap in my opinion, it has a lot of cool ideas (Mikey's show in the IDW comic is based off his pirate radio station in Next Mutation for example, I always thought that was such a great idea). I haven't seen every episode but I have the DVD set of it, I really need to finish the last several episodes.

Anyway, I really wanted IDW Venus to treat the original version with respect as much as I could, like you said there are aspects of the Next Mutation version that we're not allowed to use, it's all very complicated, but I tried to at least homage the things I'm not allowed to use. I'm still trying to have Venus join the Turtles/Splinter Clan but it keeps getting pushed back!

Man imagine if in MHA, the business course had a student with an OP quirk, and during the sports festival he said "yeah, I dont care for heroics, but winning this shit will look good for my CV when I'm a CEO of a corupt company" - perfect opportunity to explore the dychothomy between super powers and heroism - hell the charachter could then develop and realise that using his powers for less selfish reasons is better

And then just finish it with a double subversion, him not becoming a "super hero", but using his quirk in a unique but really necessary way, like idunno, give them heat control, to use for clean energy to solve both polution and lack of it or something, while using his business skils to manage corporate and goverment redtape and beauracry

Like even if one dislikes my example, its just a placeholder to express that, we really missed out for a social satire as quirks as a metaphor - cause everything had to be reduced to supercops...

This submission has given me ideas about how much better, with hindsight, My Hero Academia could have done more worldbuilding on how Business and Support Courses work, and give far more compelling stories and character progression to Mei Hatsume and Re-Destro. 

I’ll get to the Re-Destro stuff below, as I have a lot to say. But I want to address something you wrote first:

I really wish we had shown more of the UA students using their skills for something other than superpowers. The final arc even had that opportunity: I know people are pissed Denki and others didn’t get some big flashy superhero fight, but the manga did a good job of showing that Denki, Momo, and others are also valuable for what they can do to alleviate resource problems we have in our real world, as well as the threat that persists that maybe we then are just dependent on the resources instead of letting go of them. 

Think about Book 1 of The Legend of Korra: Mako can generate electricity, but that makes him a raw resource of power, hence keeping him in a lower economic class where it’s not just his labor as a raw product to trade for cash but his literal superpower and the way his body creates it is now separated from him and made into a product, like selling your blood and plasma. 

There are so many opportunities to give this idealistic image you show of Pro Heroes figuring out that maybe they are more useful to create clean energy, and the dark side that maybe this perpetuates the same problems Pro Hero society has had for so long--but Horikoshi never tried to take this approach. 

And yes, it would help navigate gray areas: “Maybe big business does do some good things,” “Maybe corporations can be used for good.”

Stan Lee helped co-create Iron Man in order to take the worst kind of person in that time period--a corporate leader creating weapons that were perpetuating a damn foolish war that never should have been started--to see whether the creative team could make a character that even young anti-war activists would sympathize with, cheer on, and see progress into a better person.

Horikoshi keeps doing this: there are so many cliches and notable moments in comic book history, and he just doesn’t tap into them to say something new. I am so not going to cheer on libertarian bullshit, but you can’t talk about comics if you’re not going to talk about Iron Man, the Question, Spider-Man, and Blue Beetle as objectivist Ayn Rand / Steve Ditko dream projects and how later creators have perpetuated, celebrated, agreed with, ironized, criticized, satirized, or condemned those characters and the politics they hold. 

Okay, now onto my rambling. This is going to be another long response, so let’s again put up some headings to outline the answer better. 

Let Mei Hatsume flirt with villainy

Your submission has big Mei Hatsume energy--and it’s not as if I haven’t toyed with the idea about whether Mei would become a villain, or an inadvertent one. 

Granted, that idea seems a little too close to what they did with Entrapta in the She-Ra reboot--but if it worked there, it’d work here. 

I’m kind of surprised the manga never said, “Oh, by the way, after the Pro Heroes failed to stop Shigaraki and ended up letting the PLF get stronger, some of Mei’s inventions got stolen by Villains and that’s why the Cider House Gang was able to get their hands on those Support Items.” 

It felt like a missed opportunity to show how Mei’s work could be corrupted, it’d give her something more to do to the story, maybe give her an arc, maybe show other dimensions to her, how Power Loader or someone else gets her confidence back, reassures her it’s not her fault--and it’d pay off that potential villainy that she showed (but which we are definitely not actualizing here because she is a good person) way back in the Sports Festival by using Tenya as her glorified mannequin to show off her inventions, the kind of behavior you describe in your submission.

Make Re-Destro a UA alumnus and donor

Let’s go back to how you started this submission, about how the Business Course could end up giving rise to a potential corporate villain: yeah, it’s another missed opportunity.

I am going to go in another direction, to suggest, what if that potential corporate villain just flat-out did become a corporate villain.

If we are really going to have this many problems with this story, where everything has to be connected when really they should not have been (maybe Shigaraki should not have been Nana’s grandchild; maybe Geten should not be related to the Todorokis), why not just say: 

“Screw it, Re-Destro went to UA in the Business Course”?

Horikoshi weirdly avoids taking the path of certain comic book cliches that could have been deconstructed or at least fun references: what is Lex Luthor if not the corrupt businessman who also happened to have gotten his start because he grew up with Clark Kent in Smallville? (Granted, I am mixing together the original origin story, Smallville, and John Byrne’s reboot…Sidebar: Fuck John Byrne, what a bigoted sack of shit.) 

I know we have far too many of these characters having been alumni of UA: All Might (how did no one recognize All Might and Toshinori Yagi were the same person if he was in the UA Sports Festival?), Endeavor, Best Jeanist, Edgeshot, Midnight, Oboro, Present Mic, Aizawa. 

But we never showed a Business Course graduate. Why not let it be Re-Destro? 

It was so boring that All For One was scouting UA like a raccoon digging through his own personal dumpster in order to try to steal Aizawa’s Quirk and settle for Oboro’s corpse. And I hated how All For One just happened to have numerous moles, not just Aoyama but also all those other no-names in the final arc. All For One’s power (his literal superpowers, not just his political power) is so massive that it stretches believability, mostly because he has been set up as a villain so powerful that you can’t think of any way to defeat him--which is why the ending fails to actually give a satisfying way of stopping his physical might. He is a symbol of fascism, and defeating fascism, while requiring a ton of force, also depends on beating a bad idea with a much better idea--and it is difficult to boil down that fight of ideas to just two super-powered individuals punching each other. 

All For One is not the person who would be able to infiltrate UA, and he is not a great option for storytelling and symbolism purposes to have him be the one to infiltrate UA. 

But Re-Destro would be. 

It’d make sense that Re-Destro would use UA to scout for new talent for the MLA. It’d be sadly realistic: corrupt corporate mogul funding schools to get the kind of lackeys and resources he needs for future conquest. It would fit with comic book cliches. It would finally let us do some worldbuilding as to how the Business Course, and likely also the Support Course, works, see more of the teachers, maybe some of them are with the MLA inside of UA, and maybe some of the teachers and students actually hate Re-Destro, whether because they know he’s corrupt, or they have an inkling, or (speaking as someone who has learned and taught in the university system) you just know the corporate funders are aiming those resources towards helping their business and could not care about improving education in languages, ethics, civics, and critical thinking skills. 

As you said, “the character could then develop and realize that using his powers for less selfish reasons is better”: what if Re-Destro is that motivation for certain characters to realize that altruism would be better? A student gets brought into Re-Destro's orbit, doesn't know about the MLA yet, but works alongside him and slowly realizes something is wrong. Maybe this character learns about the MLA and helps inform Hawks; maybe this character never learns about the MLA but manages to extricate themselves away just in time, giving the audience a sigh of relief, and they instead get recruited for another business (to show "not all businesses are bad") or a Pro Hero agency (have Centipeder and Bubble Girl recruit them, give them something to do after Nighteye's death).

Or, what if it is a character we already know? What if Ochaco went to work for Re-Destro? What if Re-Destro’s fixation on wealth and advancement made Ochaco temper her desire for money, no matter how good her intentions are? Or, what if Re-Destro's vibe unsettles one of our more wealthy students like Shoto, Tenya, and Momo, and it shows us "not all rich people are bad"? I know this risks saying, “Don’t eat the rich, some of them are good people,” but it would keep asking the question Stain offered, when is there too much fame and wealth being given to glorified super-cops? 

And this change to the story would serve Re-Destro better given how little presence he had after his defeat, and how empty he was as an antagonist once he just gives up to Shigaraki, and how little foreshadowing or build-up we had for him.

Re-Destro is to My Hero Academia what Fukuchi is to Bungo Stray Dogs: if this person is such a puppet master, then he should have been present in the background since Chapter 1--show us Detnerat products since Chapter 1, just as Bungo Stray Dogs should have shown movie posters, books, and military recruitment ads with Fukuchi since Chapter 1. Or, if Re-Destro and Fukuchi were such late additions to their stories, the anime adaptation should have fixed that. Granted, they didn’t have the same amount of time between first appearance of the character in the manga and first produced episode of the anime, but think how well this worked in Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood: “Here’s Father, yes we are introducing him early so that the Sins, the Ling stuff, the Alkahestry stuff, and the Xerxes stuff does not come off as such an ass-pull especially for those only familiar with the first anime, not the manga.” 

I know this is very “me”: “Oh, you just want the story to be like this because you’re familiar with school politics!” Um, yeah? This manga has “academia” in the title--I’m a lifelong superhero fan, I enjoy poring over comics for how their stories and paneling are structured, but this series started so well because it took such well-worn genres, the superhero story and the school life manga story, and combined them to get something new, then fumbled the project by not getting back to the school stuff and using the superhero stuff to pull apart the school life story cliches and respond to the ongoing problems in education. I want a story that flat-out makes the donor to the big school into a bad guy--I want us to interrogate how much harm is done to education when the quality of the education depends on a handful of donors. 

Make Re-Destro the arch enemy of Nezu

And this would also go a long way to give Nezu his own arch enemy. The story waits a long time before revealing, in trivia or in the text, that Nezu is rich and funds UA mostly on his own. Cool--but let’s show that Nezu still needs help from others, and maybe he is that big brain to know to keep his enemies closer, where he’s playing chess against Re-Destro, who is so ignorant that he thinks he’s the one pulling the fast one on, if we allow him to say this line, “some highfalutin lab rat.”

It’d be even funnier with the MLA having its rat symbol that it’s Nezu, so animalistic, being the one to screw over Re-Destro.

Think of how this would improve upon what, say, DuckTales 2017 tried to do and didn’t pull off as well: Scrooge is now a businessman in the 21st century, corporations no longer typically run on the whims of just one owner, there can be shareholders and managers and accountants like Bentley and his brothers getting in the way.

Same idea here: Nezu may be in charge of UA, but even he has to answer to the donors and, ahem, “customers”--if he screws up, he risks losing money. And when UA has villains robbing their paperwork, attacking students at USJ, attacking a student at the mall, and kidnapping and injuring more students, of course Re-Destro now can use this as a power play against Nezu. Come on, what is the point of having Re-Destro’s partner in crime be a politician like Trumpet if we’re going to chicken out and not get political about this story?

Hi apple🍎, I think I'll crochet mostly granny square at first, just to learn the basic stiches. But I'll show you for sure the stuffies! I also have a problem with the short attention span, however I find myself focusing a lot while doing a repetive task, so I think I can handle this.

About the visual novel, I know there are online some maker that could help us, but I never tried them.

Aaand now, about the projects...👀 First of all, those are all concepts I'm still working on, so they could change in the future.

The book one is a fantasy children book for adults. Like I said in the previous post, it doesn't specifically have anything to do with agere, but I always read and hear "In Disneyland adults can return as a kid too", "Eveyone has an inner child" and so on. And I once found a video recommending books for children going through some difficult situations, like divorce of their parents, getting bullied...So, why not for adults too?

I want to try to address some "adult" themes through the main character, a little elf called Hazel. He's a kid that just moved to a new realm and he's adjusting to the new life, thanks also to the help of an adult elf, Hyacinth, that took him under his care.

That's it for the first project.

The second one in more complex, is also a fantasy and it follow the story of 13 charachters that stood out for their brave, loyality, fortitude ecc... and become "Holy knights", a special force to defend the country.

My idea was to make 13 different VN/book/whatever, each one focusing on a character, on how they became knights or how they solve a mission with the whole group.

I jut need to think the last character but I have to define better also the others one.

At the moment I have:

a former warrior called "The Immortal"

a god that love humans

a bard whose tongue was cut out

the father of the first "holy knight"

a pearl diver

a guy who killed another one (No, he isn't yandere)

a sorceress (There is here a yandere in her story)

a girl who was "reincarnated"

Those are the ones I'm sure about their story. Let's see if the dreams can suggest me other things. 😂

Progress on the Rock/Pop x Opera Singer AU!

(Quick disclaimer: the pictures I'll be using and posting alongside the fic are not fanarts. They're photos from Pinterest or stock picture websites. Sadly, I have the curse of not being able to draw, but I still wanted to give this story a bit of a visual touch. I am counting on your vivid imagination to see our beloved charachters in the blurry silhouettes, readers!)

This is a fragment of the first chapter, "The Garden". (Serpent is Crowley, to avoid any confusion :) )

And through it all she offers me protection. A lot of love and affection. Whether I'm right or wrong. He walked fowards as he sang, and a knot formed in Aziraphale's throat when he realized Serpent was going in his general direction. Anathema noticed too, the slaps on his arm midly intensifying. The performer took a deep breath and carried on with the chorus. And down the waterfall Wherever it may take me, I know that life won't break me, When I come to call... During that last lyric, eyes closed in concentration, Serpent took another few steps forwards and sat down on the edge of the stage, right opposite Aziraphale, whose pulse went up to about a million beats per minute. The red-haired man with a voice from the heavens was sitting there, just inches away, with a small snake curled between his fingers. A series of sharp nails prodding into his skin told him that Anathema was pretty much in the same state of awe. Serpent slightly curled in on the microphone and sang the last lyrics, his voice warm and tender, even intimate. She won't forsake me. Then, he raised his head, and his amber gaze landed squarely on Aziraphale's cerulean blue eyes. Both men stopped breathing, and the singer tilted his head curiously to the side, momentarily stunned in such a way that he'd forgotten how to sing. For a long second, they just stared at one another, and Aziraphale's whole world faded to the background. With his eyes still fixed on the blonde, Serpent raised the microphone to his lips one more time and breathed the very last lyric, uncurling the stuffed snake from his fingers and gently handing it to Aziraphale as a tender smile began pulling at the end of his lips. The blonde hesitated for half a second, but then accepted it with shaking hands, their fingers brushing for less than a heartbeat. I'm loving angels instead.

I've still got a bit to write, but I am completely obsessed with this bit here and wanted to show you.

With what the anon said about wanting to see joe and Liam neeson together. Am I remembering right? But do their charachters actually meet? All their interactions are over the phone right? So they might not even meet until promo or premier if at all.

Or am I just blanking part of the book!? I know neeson filmed a lot in Morocco for the movie, and joe only filmed in Italy. Might be time for a re read.

They do actually! Towards the end of the book! Not gonna say specifics, but there is a point that Roberto Diaz shows up at the storage facility where Naomi and Teacake are.

Also, just something interesting, I noticed on IMDb his character is gonna be called Robert Quinn. I guess to avoid the fact that in the book Diaz was clearly a Latino, but it would make sense that David Koepp would change it since Liam was cast.

20th century boys - the anti "Monster"?

So I read 20th century boys for iceberg research, and because I did like the previous work "Monster" and it was.... Well I have very mixed toughts, sadly a lot of them arent positive and if I tried to vocalise everything it could sound more negatitive than I actually think it is (as a 17 min voicemessage to a good friend proofed lol)

But, instead of bitching I thought I'll focus on a single point, one which seems kinda obvious but that I havent seem mentioned.

20th-century boys is like a parody or a response of his own work "Monster"

Like, spoilers ofcourse, so lets start

What is "Monster"? You often see it described as "super dark and realistic, a perfect anime to be adapted into live action!"

But is it really? It has a magical killer child with an face of an angel, a weird supercomputer cop with a funny quirk, a literal manbaby nazi leader, etc.

Still what does that have to do with 20th century boys? Well because that series IS about childish manga tropes, about how unrealistic they are and what the reality to fulfill them would be (well thats one of many things but lets not get ahead of oneself)

And it kind of attacks or critques the concept of the evil genius - instead of some demon child with a tragic backstory, the villian of friend is a petty manchild, one that was petty since childhood, whose "trauma" in many ways was just a charachter flaw from the start (well there is more too that, but the whole multiple friends twist/retcon would be too much for this short little ramble I'm spinning up)

But there is another aspect - not just parody, but response and "addresing critques" - like people complained that in Monster Johans finall plan was too low stakes, so the authors says ok, now Friend actually does take over the entire world!

And not just that he trys to kill billions of people with even some childish fantasy bomb supposedly being able to destroy a whole planet!

Still it depends on how charitable you are - is it passive agressive in making things as big and dumb to make a point of how childish that actually would be or is it doing it to correct a flaw that many fans complained about?

Whatever the case, there are more things ofcourse, like the main charachters being the opposite - from a hypercompetent doctor to a incompetent hasbeen - both ending up with long hair to complete the parralle.

But listing everything of is kinda irrelevant. What is interesting in the end is how his work, intentionally or not, build on each other, are in dialog and show the evolution of the guy and the change in times and scene.

And maybe this is enough to actually try Billy Bat, even if many things dissulosened me from the idol that the author is - so much that I forgot his name.

But if not and I waste my time again with a overly long manga that meanders cause it doesnt now what it trys to say, I hope the author sends me letter with the words:

Yeah...sorry

I think one thing that often got overlooked about VM, especially by the newer fans/shippers that come onboard around PYC, is how good an actor Scott is and how specific he is in how he interprets music and the relationship between the characters that he and Tessa portrayed on the ice.

While there is a certain amount of the VM chemistry that is natural to them, they also put a lot of work into it and Scott, in particular, was always able to balance being passionate and showing that chemistry without being over the top (most of the time) and it gave Tessa something to play against. Interestingly, skaters who have worked with Scott have noted that he is detail oriented not only about technique but also about expression. It will be interesting to see how much of that he is able to impart to his students!

They were both exceptional actors in the way they portrayed characters on the ice and how they really nailed the essence of their chemistry even during practices and warm-ups and when they were presented, they were always ALWAYS in character. But it was always more than that because they had chemistry even when they were off character. I guess one can wonder if they ever were "off charachter" but I tend to believe they were and they just had natural chemistry and love for each other that translated in every single interaction they had.

I definitely think they worked on their chemistry, I think the life experience that came with age really showcased itself in their maturity and how well they looked on ice. I mean they had insane chemistry always but during those comeback years? it was off the charts, they were older, sexier, more mature, and it was really at peak level.

It's not surprising Scott is very detailed oriented, I think both he and Tessa were always like that, and I think it intensified in the comeback when they took ownership of their careers, I believe they believe that the little details are what sets teams apart.
