Yours (Shuri x Reader)

AN: Okay, this is so explicit it might not even make the tag. But I hope those of you who get a chance to read it enjoy it. This is a one-shot about Shuri coming back home to you and you both showing each other how much you missed the other.

It’s while you’re washing dishes that you feel a body press against you from behind. The embrace is strong, warm, and familiar. A series of gentle but reassuring kisses is placed on your neck, shoulder, and the scope of your ear. 

“My love,” her delivery of those two words is what honey would sound like if it could speak. You grin with your heart because you are reunited. The duration of your separation lasted two weeks too long, so needless to say having your woman return was the highlight. Shuri brightens as you turn from the sink to greet her properly. The mug you were scrubbing is an afterthought.

Her tender laugh reverberates through you as you launch her into your arms, fiercely hugging her. A soothing hum vibrates between you as she begins to slowly sway you both. “Did you miss me?” It almost sounds like a whisper. 

You pull back to find her eyes delicately sweep over yours. An infectious smile follows. “You know I did,” You answer, holding eye contact. The only thing she didn’t know was how much you missed her. It bordered on punishment being robbed of waking up to her and going to bed with her.

She nods like she does know the full extent of your pining. Her hand caresses your face as she continues to admire you. For her, it is a privilege to be near you again. Her lashes flutter close as she closes the gap between you, gently laying her lips on yours before kissing you. You follow her lead, which is tender and lingering. The kiss builds into want and need. You could swear that she has become an even better kisser than before. 

The need for air is the only reason your mouthes detach, though you can still taste each other. Her breath is yours and yours is hers. “I missed you so much, entle, I could cry.”

You crack a smile because it sounds dramatic and you love it. How special it feels to not be alone in your unyielding passion for her. She rubs your curves before squeezing them. Her dark curls tickle you as she leans her forehead to yours. 

“Wanna show me?” You ask lowly, stroking her nape. 

Her expression changes into a dark smirk. Before you know it, you’re being carried upstairs to the master bedroom.

Shuri shows you alright. She mashes her hips to yours, your moans also in sync as her vibranium strap burrows deep inside you. A few things I want to mention before I reveal the bracket (and make the post really long because all the matchups will be listed in text):

Seeding of fictional characters in tumblr polls is inherently subjective. I did try to make it so that more popular characters/media would (most likely) face off against each other in later rounds, but I may be overestimating or underestimating the popularity of some characters/media, especially ones I'm not familiar with. There are some round 1 matchups that are probably a closer match but none of them are between the strongest candidates... I think.

The more niche characters will probably get obliterated in the first round as per Squimbus' Law. This is a tumblr poll and I do fully expect more popular characters to sweep, but that doesn't mean you can't encourage your friends to give your niche faves a fighting chance.

Shuriri week is a week long community/fandom celebration of the Shuri Udaku/Riri Williams pairing/ship. This celebration includes fan fiction, fan art, discussions, polls, etc. 

- Do I need to sign up/post everyday/how to submit?

There's no sign up! On Tumblr, all you need to do is post it with the tag #ShuririWeek2024 *and* @/mention the page (@shuririweek). It will be reblogged! You don't need to post everyday! You can choose which theme days you want to participate in - and you can choose from any of the suggested prompts or use your own, as long as the work you post is aligned the correct theme day! All you need to do to submit a work on AO3 is post it to your account and add it to the sub collection for that event (ex. SHURIRIWEEK2024 for works done for that event). (Link)

- What if I post late/early/for the wrong day?

No worries! While there are rules for submission, it's not the end of the world if you make a mistake. For TUMBLR, I'll do my best reblog it on the right day! I've been thinking and I don't think Marvel would create an enemies-to-lovers story between Namor and Shuri. If this movie was a "test", the test has shown that Namuri has wayy too many haters. Like, the vitriol that Namuri shippers have been receiving is pretty intense. From my corner of Tumblr and Twitter, there seems to be a lot more antis than shippers. I don't think Marvel would want to piss them off.

Although we Namuri shippers can reason that Ramonda sacrificed her life for Riri instead of being targeted and killed by Namor, many people don't view it that way and they will not change their minds.

The hate and criticism that we are receiving is a little disheartening because antis reduce shippers to shallow horny females. But that's not the case. There is a foundation for our ship. The intimacy demonstrated between Namor and Shuri is our foundation. I see a black woman and an indigenous man being honest, open, and warm towards each other and I want them to form a life long bond. I want them to expand upon their admiration and respect for each other. I want them to become a power couple because Fuck! We NEVER see anything like them in popular media. A black women and an indigenous man becoming one of the world's most powerful and well known fictional couples?? That is a DREAM.

I've read that in the comics, Namor is obsessed with Sue Storm. But I DON'T WANT Namor to be obsessed with a white woman. I want him to be in love with a beautiful, intelligent, powerful, independent, loving black woman.

But because antis interpret our ship to be a fetishization of marginalized peoples and a glorification of gender violence by horny bimbos, I don't think we will get that.

Away Mission - Series Masterlist

Summary: 4 part story. Bucky cuts all ties with the Avengers and his girlfriend, Sloan, deliberately keeping them in the dark when he is asked by Nick Fury to undertake a dangerous undercover mission. Each part has alternate POV between Sloan and Bucky.

Characters: Bucky Barnes, Sloan Hunter (OFC, undescribed except shorter than Bucky), Nick Fury, Alphonso Mackenzie, Shuri, Clint Barton, Sam Wilson, named OFC and several OMC, named MCU character, who is from Bucky’s HYDRA past (he’s using an alias).

Warnings: breakups, angst, Bucky deliberately being a dick, Bucky recalling past HYDRA abuse, past trauma suffered by Bucky and several other characters, homophobia.

Author notes: This grew from a one-shot about Bucky going undercover then having to make up to everyone after. It focuses on several times over the months he’s on this mission as things happen to him and to his girlfriend, Sloan. Hopefully, it shows the extent of Bucky’s moral centre as he deliberately puts himself into this situation. Set after FATWS and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Tbh I'm Black and I thought people shipping Namor and Shuri were just a bunch of cidhet White reylos. And from what I'm seeing it is the same for a lot of us. It's time to accept that Black people are going to be divided in this matter, and that's okay we don't all think the same. But we aren't getting anywhere assuming the haters are just white by default

I used to live on tumblr more but now I live on TikTok more and I've seen nothing but Black women discussing this ship and I didn't even know there was controversy around it until I got literally attacked lol. It's also weird to assume someone is white, period. I usually only assume someone is white when they're, like, on Twitter saying some outrageous Far Right political shit but preface it with "As a Black man,". (Or I assume they're a bot.)

Like, it's out of left field, to me. Idk how other Black women are taking it, but it's crazy, like literally delusional and insane, to me, to assume that I would make this blog years and years and years ago and just elect to be one of the most underrepresented and disrespected demographics of comics fans and superhero movie fans for fun so that I could... disagree with the fans of a movie that wasn't even in the realm of existing, yet. Like, I'm a white Reylo (I don't even like Reylo, or Star Wars fans at all tbh). I played the long game, pretending to like Iris West and Misty Knight and Valkyrie and defending Anna Diop and all of that... just so I could sneak my white ass in to ship Shuri with a character y'all find distasteful? I remember a few years back when people were shipping Shuri with Bucky and a lot of people objected, but I don't remember this level of vitriol and I don't recall anyone just trying to strip long-standing blogs of their identity over it. Marvel fans have always had disagreements and shipping has always been one of the biggest ones, but I've never, in my life, felt so attacked over an opinion that I don't even hold that strongly. Like I said, I don't care about the ship that much. I only said it was fun. I don't see how shipping 2 fictional people, even lightly, even in passing, is antiblack. Antiblackness is such a bigger thing than "you shipped characters I don't like".

Usually, we're fighting the opposite, which is nobody shipping the Black characters at all, or not liking any ships with Black characters, or treating the Black characters in the ship like the psychologist for the non-Black characters in the ship. I ain't never seen no shit like this. I didn't know y'all didn't like antagonist/protagonist ships that hard. I didn't come on here to convince anyone of anything, I just came here because it's usually a fun place to geek out about these movies and things. But, no, it's not fun. Y'all are on here making huge judgements of people over shipping... like Ryan Coogler wrote it that way. Talk to him, if it bothers you that much.

But to question my entire identity, my family, my political leanings, my loyalty to my community? It's sick. Like, I can't even defend myself. If I start saying, like, I was literally getting tear gassed at BLM protests in 2020, I sound ridiculous. If I say ACAB, I sound like I'm trying too hard to convince y'all I'm Black. If I talk about actual Black American issues I care about, like the school to prison pipeline, I sound like I'm just bringing up talking points. But you guys get to decide I hate myself and other Black women because of Shuri and Namor, a fictional African princess and a fish man who were written into a screenplay. Like, what fucking sense does that make?

Like, none of this is real, but I am a real person behind this account. Y'all are making me physically ill over this.

Shuri Udaku headcannons

lovesick!shuri who's a softy. She loves you. You know she loves you, she knows she loves you and she'll be damned if she doesn't let everyone in all of Wakanda know, too. Shuri isn't afraid to show you off when the two of you are in public. She doesn't get too territorial when it comes to you because she knows that you're hers and she's yours.

"It's a promise ring," she says quickly, "I know you're not ready for marriage yet, my love."

You put the ring on your ring finger, a smile on your face.

Shuri kisses you on the forehead and places one of the onesies in your hands. "You take a shower and I'll make us something to eat, alright?"

Grief

Shuri sits up slowly. She breathes in deeply and unlocks the door. "Why're you here?" Her voice is low and raspy, surprising both of them. It had been a while since Shuri had actually said something out loud.

"I heard you weren't doing so good so I came to check on you," Riri says. She's worried. Shuri can see it all over her face and hear it in her voice but she doesn’t want to be a burden.

Addiction

There were times when you would get upset about her drinking while she was drinking and she would always talk you down. Not in a bad way, Shuri doesn't like yelling to resolve an argument or a disagreement. It doesn't solve anything to raise your voice, it only makes you and the situation more hostile. Shuri would wait for you to stop talking and then politely ask if you could lower your tone. She doesn't do it to guilt trip or make you feel guilty or anything, she just can't stand yelling. And if you do actually lower your tone and calm yourself down, the two of you talk reasonably for hours. You tell her what happened, why you're mad, and how the situation escalated to the point where you had to raise your voice.

Stay with me

You open the car door, smiling at the red and pink bouquet of flowers on your seat. You look over at Riri, who also has a smile on her face.

"Ri, when did you have the time to get these?" You finish your sentence while getting in the car, the flowers on your lap, "They are literally stunning."

"I got em while you were napping during your foot massage. Figured it was the only time I had to disappear for minute without you noticin'."

Something new

You stand there for another minute or two before deciding that since she wouldn't address her absence then you would. "So, we're not gonna talk about the fact that you just up and left, again, this morning?"

Shuri shrugs and sits down on the couch. "What sense does it make? You ask, I ignore you and the cycle repeats? No thanks."

"Why can't you communicate with me?" "For Bast's sake, y/n." Shuri groans and rolls her eyes. "Here you go, again."

Gf!Riri hcs

She falls asleep whenever you two are watching a movie or even when you two are just alone. She feels safe with you at all times so she knows to lower her guard.

She is 100% a homebody. She likes leaving the house but she also doesn’t. If she has to choose between staying home and going out, she’s gonna pick staying in and especially if you're staying home with her.

Nervous

"Tryna get drunk already, Ri?"

"Thats what we came here for, isn’t it?"

"You do know that shit is gonna give you a nasty ass hangover, right?"

Riri shrugs and chugs her drink. It only takes a few seconds before she starts coughing quietly. It was spicy and left her throat a little sore but she liked it. She filled her cup again while Shuri watched.

"Don't come to me tomorrow morning begging me to make you something to eat and drink, you know? I gave you your warning."

You haven't seen my girl

The way Riri always looked at you with love in her eyes made you melt. It’s like she’s a cartoon character with hearts for eyes. Whenever she talked about you to somebody she’d always say “My girl”. You liked that. Being called her girl was something you lived for.

There weren’t enough words in the English language that could explain how much love Riri has for you in her heart. Every time she looks at you, a love song plays in her head. It’s not a sexual love song. It’s a slow, romantic one. Sad Girl by Lana Del Rey. That explains her love for you. That plays in her head whenever you’re in her view, and honestly, it makes her fall even deeper in love with you each time.

Just seeing you smile, seeing you write, cook, draw, seeing you do things that she knows you love, makes her fall even more in love with you. "So you can beat the hell outta some nigga that look at me the wrong way?" You laugh, "Nah, Ion want no drama tonight, but if you promise to behave then you can come with me."

SHURI X RIRI

At the end of the day

Shuri put her hand in chest and sank to the floor, crying. "Griot," she says softly.

"Yes, my queen?" The A.I answers.

"Call Riri. Tell her it's an emergency."

"Calling Mrs. Williams now."

Riri rushed into the lab, frantically looking around for her wife. She stopped for a second and heard crying. It was soft but she was able to figure out where it was coming from.

Riri kneeled down next to Shuri, "Baby, what happened?"

Riri wraps her hand around Shuri's waist to hold her upright. She's clinging on for dear life. They move slowly towards the counter. Once they've made it, Riri notices how Shuri is slightly less tense but still scared. Riri asks for the trainer and gives it to Shuri. Shuri feels embarrassed having to use a trainer to skate, like everyone's gonna be staring at her once she's in the rink.

"You're okay, my love." Riri says softly. "I know you're scared but I'm not gonna let you get hurt."

Shuri closes her eyes and breathes in deeply and opens her eyes. They're on the rink. She didn't even feel them move.

Riri stays behind her the whole time, hands on her hips, moving her forward when needed. "Keep moving, ma, you got it." She says proudly.

“Are you hungry?” Shuri asked Imani from the kitchen. No response. Shuri rolled her eyes and went over to her girlfriend, standing in front of her. “Can you just tell me why you’re ignoring me?”

“And it’s not my fault that you’re having this one-sided ass fight over something I don’t even fucking remember, Imani. We're dating, aren’t we? We’re supposed to be able to talk to one another when we have issues but instead you're pushing me away and ignoring me.”

"Imani?" Shuri says, causing her to turn around. She looks… different. A good different. But Shuri won't let herself fall for that trick again. "Why're you here?"

"I came to apologize." Her voice is different, too. It sounds more mature than Shuri remembered. "I was tryna reach out to you last night so that we could actually schedule a day that you weren't busy so I could come by but you didn't answer so I figured an apology in person would be better."

Shuri keeps her guard up while Imani talks, her arms folded over chest. "I don't forgive you."

Imani stays quiet for a few seconds. "What? Shuri, I said I was sorry."

"Yeah, and I do not forgive you. You put me through hell, Imani, and I know you didn't seriously come here thinking that those two words would make you forgive you for everything. And, to be honest, I would tell you how fucked up in the head I am because of you, but knowing you, you'd probably use it against me in the future, if we even talk. So, why don't you just save both of our time and tell me why you're really here."

Instead, they found themselves surrendering.

Why I Love It: I often discover things like this late at night when I can’t sleep and I can’t stop fantasizing. This was a welcome relief to pass the time I spent in insomnia some nights ago.

I ate the whole thing up in a couple of hours read time. It’s one of the most mature explorations of this dynamic between film canon Shuri and Namor as they exist after the events of BPWF. While everyone can reasonably acknowledge that in real life, the idea of falling in love with the person who took the life of your mother is not rationally justifiable, those of us who can see a way for fictional characters to come around to it do appreciate the sensible approach.

You can ignore the un-sensible and suspend disbelief in most cases, but when you are presented with something that comes close to making sense in the world of fiction, it leaves room for unburdened enjoyment. This story does that. It unburdens the reader the same way it unburdens Shuri. Nothing is gone. Grief, sadness, anger, disgust – it’s all there. But as a human tends to do with lesser stakes in real life, so does a well-written character do with more dramatic stakes in a narrative. So does Shuri here. She connects, she learns, she grows. Namor is a calculating God, who gives Shuri what she wants under the guise of manipulation, but if you read between the lines drawn here, the author is actually telegraphing the nature of his true feelings and motivations for yielding to Shuri in more ways than just in the ways of war and diplomacy. He loves her, and will make himself weak in the eyes of his people for her, understanding that together they will be stronger. I would classify this as a slow burn, not in the traditional way you may think.

It’s calm, it’s introspective, it’s thorough, it takes itself seriously in how it handles the subject, but it knows what it is: fictional, hypothetical, fantastical. The characters have arcs you can track. Give it a chance, go on the journey. Follow the author’s updates here on Tumblr.

Always. Unless they're stupid comments or comments i just can't with. I love responding to comments. I've had soo many lengthy conversations in the comments with some good pals. I don't mind talking in the comment section of my fics as long as they're good conversations and not mean.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

uhhh *goes to search* I guess Pluviophile? I don't write many angsty endings. Although there is this wip fic which absolutely destroys the characters. Can't wait for that.

Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written? 

I don't write 'em. But I want to sometime in the future. Oh wait, unless you count my wattpad fics. I wrote an (incomplete) fic about dick and wally and shuri and peter meeting and nearly destroying the multiverse together with vines and crack humor. I actually liked the plot I did not like my author's notes. I was cringy back then. Genius, but cringy.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Three or four. I forget. They either insulted my characterization or got way too emotional for something that is fictional.

Yes! With Vibey I'm currently working on a tim getting kidnapped fic and in some future a DEH batboys AU. With Sprite we're doing one (or maybe two) of one of her series. With Tristi I did At The Drop Of A Hat and hopefully another in the future. With Cyg, I've done Capture, Grok and 4 Times Jason Hid His Trauma + 1 Time Tim Helped Him.

What’s your all time favorite ship?

I don't ship. I used to. Lots and lots. When times were simpler. But rn, my only ship is from a small but an absolutely awesome Muslim fiction book called Love From A To Z. Love those two.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? 

Lemme look. Okay, there's a whole document inspired by this fic called Living Dead Boy by Terranpheum, and there are some good moments I planned, but I abandoned it cuz I noticed that I didn't actually have a plot and it was just little moments.

What are your writing strengths?

Plot, ideas, outlines, dialogue, emotional rollercoasters, little bits of casefics, humor, angst, family fluff. Yeah. Oh and semicolons. Just a bit. And when I actually try, descriptions. But I have to be in a specific mood and the wind has to behave a certain way for that to happen.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Action and fight scenes. I had to employ Cyg's beta help for that. Torture I think. I want to get better at writing torture. Angst. It is both my strength and weakness.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Absolutely yes. I'm starting to use it at every chance I can. The next fic is gonna have some good ones. I'm so into it that I gave Sprite entire lessons on Arabic words and phrases. She can attest to that.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

DC. The fic's roaming around on tumblr here somewhere.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

A published one? My School's Local Mafia Boss. Because I've just... it's my first series. It's been going on for a year. I've made so many good friends in the comment sections and on other platforms and... some really really close friends. Who are just... so awesome. I can't describe /srs

Wakanda Forever Spoilers

I’ve seen that a lot of people started shipping Shuri with Namor. I don't personally ship it, but I'm okay with this. They had good chemistry, so the ship does have potential. However, Namor killed Shuri’s mother, which keeps me from shipping them together. I also saw potential for a ship between Shuri and Riri, but they didn't have as much screen time together as I would hope. I'll have to wait for more content to decide.

This is my opinion and I respect everyone else’s. Unfortunately, I've seen others (I suppose you could call them “antis”) harass posts about the ship. This is what I wanted to address today.

It's okay to express your opinion, but do it on your own post. People ship things for fun. Don't ruin that fun for them. It's upsetting to see people insult each other over a ship. It's fictional, people. Get over it.

you know, one of the most annoying things in fandom is when people view a pairing as having familial vibes, like "oh these two act like brother and sister!", so when others say they ship it, the fandom will go, "ew, no, that's incest!", even though the characters are not blood-related

like, i understand if you're against incest, but to slap an incest label on characters who act like siblings or a parent & child is going a bit too far, in my opinion

i'm pro-shipping any sort of incest, but i do have a system to determine what does and doesn't count as incest:

if they're related by blood, then it's incest.

if they share a biological parent, then it's incest.

if their parents are married but they're not blood-related, it isn't biologically incest, but the relationship could be viewed as borderline incestuous. (by law, they can still date/marry/etc, though, when they become adults.)

if one of them was adopted, then it also isn't biologically incest, but depending on when the adopted one joined the family (earlier or later in their childhood), then it could technically be viewed as incest. (i'm not sure about the legality bc of the shared last names. i'd have to research that.)

if they're foster siblings, then again, no biological incest, but depending on how long they've lived together, could be viewed as pseudo-incestuous. but they're still allowed to date/marry/etc once they age out of the system.

if they merely act like family, then it is definitely not incest and anyone claiming such is reaching and clearly just ship-bashing.

i had an experience in a fandom a few years back where people claimed shipping foster brothers was "incest" even though they only became foster brothers as teenagers. and other characters in the same media were implied to have met in the system and went on to date and marry each other, which no one in the fandom seemed to have an issue with, so the "incest" claimers really looked like hypocrites, in the end.

it's been, like, 2-3 days since the new black panther movie came out and i'm seeing more complaints about people shipping shuri & namor than actual shuri/namor content

can't people just... let others be? i understand if you disagree with it, but this is fandom! it's fiction! we're meant to explore interesting ship dynamics! like, there's a reason why "enemies to lovers" is such a popular trope and i'm sorry but yes that includes the more toxic/abusive pairings too. honestly, if you want "enemies to lovers" without any of the toxic or abusive stuff, you're really looking for "rivals to lovers" pairings. i'm sorry but it's true.

if you don't like a certain ship and don't wanna see it's content, mute the tag! block the people posting about it! you're in control of your own online experience!

but don't try to police other people's fandom experiences, please. shipping a toxic or abusive pairing is not actually harming anyone. (and being offended by something is NOT the same as being harmed by it.) get it through your heads.

Idk why whenever people talk about big wrongdoings made by the Avengers they always and only ever bring up Tony creating Ultron (although they never mention Bruce helped and Wanda mind manipulated him but lmao whatever that topic has been explained before). Why do they never bring up oh..I don’t know, Fury having scientists work on the Tesseract and therefore being responsible for Loki coming to New York along with a Chitauri army..you know the literally plot the first Avengers? Or maybe Steve/Nat/Sam/Fury/Maria leaking all of SHIELD and HYDRA info online thus burning several good SHIELD agents but lmao who cares what happens to them? Or maybe Wanda and Pietro signing up for HYDRA and essentially becoming Nazis so they could kill Tony just because someone fired a Stark weapon at them instead of going at the one that fired it like a rational person and literally only changing their side because they realized Ultron wanted them and the Earth dead too? Or Thor basically starting a war with the Frost Giants just cuz they called him princess because he was a spoiled royal god and who his or Steve’s ego you should actually be complaining about instead of Tony’s supposed ego? Steve keeping the cause of Tony’s parents death a secret and then immediately fighting him afterwards instead of trying to talk him down and admit he made a mistake? Or literally anyone that was Team Cap and that didn’t sign the accords? Sam I’m sorry I love you in TFATWS but the fact that you refused to sign is baffling to me. T’Challa for trying to kill ur innocent baby Bucky? No that was fine he was just traumatized even though Tony was in the exact same situation as him but whatever. Or even Clint, Natasha, Fury, Maria, Coulson, and Sharon who literally work for SHIELD and are spies/assassins and kill people for a living and use guns 24/7? Or literally all of the GOTG who are all criminals/killers who use many weapons which just happen to include guns? “Tony’s rich he’s a demon” yeah but he’s fictional rich, real life rich people are bad but fictional rich people are usually good and actually give tons back to the community like Tony does, he literally pays for all the Avengers tech and makes their weapons (which you are fine with him making them weapons but hate on him for making the militaries lol ok), he literally pays for the destruction that they cause because you know they couldn’t themselves. And I never see you hating any other of the fictional rich people for being rich (even though they do way less for the world than Tony) like Hope van Dyne, Hank Pym, T’Challa and Shuri (are literally king and princess who tumblr loves despite hating royals in real life but somehow the logic that makes them hate Tony for being fictional rich doesn’t carry over here cool), and Dr Strange. Wakanda didn’t even use their money and resources until after T’Challa become king and he took some convincing before he did that but that’s fine?

Honestly, the topic of shipping in this Black Panther fandom has gotten so utterly violent that I'm afraid to even mention other ships, for fear of angering the self-appointed fandom captains.

Like, how Martin Freeman and Danai Gurira casually shipped Okoye and Ross on that one British talk show, which was a fun-sounding unexplored ship to me, but like... am I allowed to say that? If I say it, does that mean I am committing to a lifetime contract of DEEPLY shipping this ship even though I only think it might make a good AU for a fic? Even though I don't care that much, I just think it was cute that these two actors said so? Is it gonna be problematic? Am I supposed to ship anyone else, specifically, with Okoye?

Or how about Ayo and Aneka? Like... I would rather be writing about them than Shuri and Riri, because they're a canon, established Black lesbian couple. But are we supposed to only be focusing on the idea of Shuri and Riri? I like Shuri and Riri, but do I have to want them to be canon?

Is all of this just me covering for my deep, unending love of Shuri x Namor? Am I so deeply into that even I don't know that I'm lying about not caring that much?

Also, like... I have people coming to me because they feel so attacked. And like, every time I go into the tag (you gotta look at new posts, because top posts is just all the posts you've already seen), it's just the same person over and over again telling everyone how much this one group of shippers hates Shuri and "doesn't care about her trauma" (meanwhile, this person cares more about a fictional character than the real, living Black women they're attacking.) And it's like... there's a reason tumblr fandoms created anti tags. So that people who hate stuff can go into the anti tag, and people who like stuff can go into the main tag for the thing. Or at least blacklist each other. Even the most controversial or combative ships, people respect that (with like Reylo and Stucky and Steggy and whatever else causes fanwars a lot). Like, what are you getting out of spending DAYS (and literally only days because the movie just dropped!) just utterly trashing strangers because they don't agree with you.

I mean, I be talking shit about ships, too, but damn, I usually make a post and move one.
