Okay but consider tough… Vampire au Sanuso where Sanji mistakes a bat for Usopp until Usopp comes into the door and Sanji feels extremly stupid. But he keeps the bat around as a little pet anyways and it seems to absolutely HATE Usopp. Like, full on trying to attack him all the time. Sanji promises a pouting Usopp that it’s just overprotective, it’s Apperantly wounded and he was the first one to find it. Usopp just glares at the thing and says something along the lines of „We should throw that disgusting vermin off the ship right now.“

Sanjis expression must have been one of pure terror, because as soon as Usopp sees it he backpedals, says he had a long day and he’s tired and hungry, of course Sanji can keep it if he wants to, he should probably head to sleep anyways. See you tomorrow. And Sanji guesses he really must have been tired, that cold and cruel expression on his face was very unlike the crewmate he has grown so fond of…

In hindsight he supposes this should have been his first clue that something was terribly wrong.

In the Next two weeks the crew starts feeling fainter and fainter and more sickly. Chopper expects it to be some sort of Virus going around but he can’t find any diseases that match the symptoms. Everyone is on edge but Sanji keeps noticing that Usopp… doesn’t act like himself anymore. He rarely joins them at the dinner table and he seems to even forget to take his usual blood dose from Choppers stack unless their doctor explicitly reminds him to. He seems colder to everyone as well. Unhelpful. Meanspirited. Nami worries about Zoro being sick and he basically tells her to stop worrying so much because it’s annoying. Robin mentions reading something in a book about other mythical creatures in the area and he disregards her completly. Her book mysteriously vanishes the next day. Luffy gets so sick he’s out of comissiob for a few days and his reaction is basically non existent. Franky pulls Sanji aside nervously to confess he saw something strange at night and went to tell Usopp, since it hung around his workshop and Usopp didn’t really react at all „Don’t worry about it.“ he said, not even looking up. „Your mind is probably playing tricks on you.“ and Sanji slowly begins to realize that his new pet seems to only hate Usopp this much. That it seems downright protective of all the other strawhats. That it’s a very smart animal, but even smart animals usually don’t look at you like this and you feel like they understand every single word you say. And Sanji realizes that something , SOMETHING is terribly wrong with what he thought of as Usopps until a few days ago.

Tldr: Shapeshifting and probably soulsucking creature wounds Usopp so much he has to stay in bat form (or maybe he gets cursed?) and Batsopp has been desperately trying to warn his crew that someone has taken his place and is planning to drain their life’s out one by one… and also is now realizing that „HOLY COW SANJI LIKES ME TOO? WISH I FOUND THAT OUT UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES BUT WOW?!!“

The fact that he hears Sanji confess his feelings while he's just hanging out in the galley, probably trying to think up a plan to get Sanji to understand him, is so fucking funny.

REWATCHING SEASON 2 EPISODE 7 OF ARCANE

+ some of my highlights and notable moments that I enjoyed bc people can’t understand media anymore

This is mostly an infodump of stuff I can fit into a twitter thread/didn't rly want to make into a thread. I'm not great at words so I apologize in advance, I am sure there are many people much better at analysis than I.

I want to start off by saying I am heavily invested in timebomb so this is very much going to be a ship analysis. If you're looking for someone unbiased i am very much not the person for that 😭

FIRST OFF:

The disc on the music box is adorable!!! It features au Powder (who I am going to refer to as just Powder for the duration of my analysis) and au Ekko

Compared to the normal Disc

This is very obviously because it takes place in a different universe, one without Vi or "Jinx".

The first scene starts off with AU Ekko writing in his notebook. (Cute mention is Powder's doodle in his notebook!!) Then we see flashes of the wild rune. This is when AU Ekko switches to canon Ekko.

Also one of my favorite silly images from this episode is this one.. Powder is being so adorable and Ekko is just scared out of his MIND. it's so silly.

In the Last drop, Powder asks Ekko. "What is up with you? You've been out of it all day?". One thing I noticed in my rewatch is that i think Powder is aware this Ekko isn't HER Ekko. This is just one instance of many that makes me think this.

This hideout seems so much more vibrant and loved, similar to Jinx's hideout after Isha. It's colorful. There are guard rails that I like to think was pushed by Vander. We can see Ekko's art scattered around. It just shows how much more support and family Powder has compared to Jinx, which i mention a lot.

Id also like to note Ekko being shocked au him went to powder for help. In his mind at this time he believes Jinx to be all that is left, no more Powder. Through out the episode we see that change.

Notice how Powder gets upset at Ekko in this scene. However, she doesn't react explosively like Jinx would've. She handled it in a way that shows she had support. She told him to leave instead. Again, the main difference between Powder and Jinx isn't only Vi but also the existence of multiple support systems that Jinx simply didn't have.

THIS FLASHBACK! Oh my god this flashback. The fact it happened after he upset Powder? I think it shows just how much he truly cares about Jinx/Powder. He remembers VIVIDLY the day that he thought he killed her. Jinx was his childhood best friend, and I don't think that kind of feeling ever truly goes away. He doesn't want to hurt any version of her, not even the alternate universe her. We see that showcased more later on. Also, random probably insane note. He is interrupted by small children playing, having fun. This isn't a coincidence, it shows he does miss the moments from when they were kids.

While talking with Heimerdinger, we see Ekko look at Powder multiple times. Watching her laugh and be expressive, he smiles. When she doesn't return it we see him get upset. Once more this brings me to my point that he doesn't want to hurt her. Considering he hasn't known this Powder very long you can see where I gather my point that he doesn't want to hurt her in GENERAL. Any version of her.

THIS SCENE!! He is such a bad liar it's adorable. This brings me to my earlier point, Powder knows what's up!! She suspects something 100%. He is talking about this dream her like it was real.

"You aren't the kind of person who helps other people with their projects. Your ideas change the world. I can't shake the feeling that that's who you're supposed to be."

Are you LISTENING TO THIS? He is obviously talking about Jinx. You can tell this by the first sentence because obviously Powder IS that kind of person. He's starting to see that Jinx is just a part of Powder, one that is unavoidable and that he unknowingly appreciates in a sense. Like two sides of one coin he can't see Powder without Jinx and that is good. I think it is here he realizes truly just how much he cares about Jinx.

This whole montage is beautiful but I want to zero in on two things. Powder's reaction to the notebook and how she looks at Ekko after. NOW THIS. This is the nail in the coffin for her. She knows that this is not her Ekko. She has fully gathered that he isn't from this universe.

Also heimerdinger totally knows how Ekko feels you cannot tell me otherwise. Pushing him to go to the party? yeah he knows what you are.

THIS WHOLE SCENE. I AM NOT ANALYZING THE WHOLE THING HERE BUT IT IS GORGEOUS. I saw someone talking about how it was animated on 4's to signify the way Ekko can only go back 4 seconds and I honestly shed a tear. THE SONG TOO? I encourage everyone to look at the lyrics because they're beautiful.

Okay now for my favorite part of this episode so much to dissect and i'm totally going to mansplain but yk..

"I used to dream the undercity could be like this" — That sets the tone for the whole conversation and just what world he is talking about. The canon one.

"But somewhere, I got consumed by all the ways it wasn't. I gave up on it. Gave up on YOU." — Heavy emphasis on this line. Once more he is talking about Jinx. He is talking about how he got so consumed by the way that Jinx wasn't good, and he gave up on her. Believed she was irredeemable. Powder showed him that Jinx is capable of love and happiness, it's just under that tough protective shell. The undercity in the metaphor is Jinx, from my interpretation.

"I promise i'll never forget this." — Now time for my insanity. He doesn't forget this. That's why he saves Jinx from ending her life in the first place. He remembers Powder and knows that with the right support Jinx doesn't have to be the way she is. It's not that she "needs to be fixed" she just needs to be LOVED, like Powder. He sees that now. He sees how in the au the love that everyone shares for one another shaped the undercity beautifully, and made everyone in it much healthier mentally despite going through hardships. That is beautiful. People with mental illness are not unlovable they just need more support, it can't be cured, or fixed just healed. Mental illness is always there it is how you DEAL with it that matters.

Nothing too major to talk about with the kiss. It's sweet I love it, but nothing too notable for me to say about it.

Finally, Ekko leaves the au. I have seen people say that this is a sacrifice, he could've had everything he wanted and he gave it up to save the people at home. But i take insanity to another level. I see this as him appreciating his home. He knows he can never truly love this Powder because she isn't the version he fell in love with. He learned to appreciate Jinx even through her flaws, and that while this world has everything he could want and more he can have that home too.

I am experiencing HEAVY timebomb brainrot if you can’t already tell. I was tired of people taking things in the complete wrong way with this episode, if anyone has different views pls tell me I love hearing how other people took certain scenes. there are a few scenes I love but I would’ve made this post way too long..

So, Edgar's newest idea wasn't that elaborate or a big secret since we already know what exactly the "deal" looked like: reader gets her freedom if Butcher and The Boys keep SB on their team under the guise of keeping him away from Vought's business/out of the negative headlines. This allowed Ben to stay close to her, especially after making his own threat to leave The Boys if reader leaves. In the background, Stan also helped ensuring reader wouldn't get a job at a university etc. So reader's initial deal with Stan was always a set up by both Edgar and Ben.

Don't be too nervous! I do have a happy end for them planned 😉 And I'm glad you understand reader's side as well. I know a lot people really feel for Ben (I do too), but he really did burn everything he ever had with reader down – especially after the science teacher incident. The fact she now knows he's done all of this to her on purpose or just didn't give enough shits about the rest of the world for decades makes it a lot more worse. Before she thought he was an asshole who was too stupid to recognize the bigger picture, but him being fully aware of his actions all along is basically the final nail in the coffin.

On that note, I loved making her the catalyst for everthing, tho. Classic time travel dilemma. Even cooler was how Ben influenced her life as well and also steered her toward that exact path – by being indifferent about Vought injecting babies with V, by running his mouth with Edgar of all people... It's the good old "Who was here first – the chicken or the egg" question 😂

I thought about this so goddamn much!!! The problem I always run into here is: How normal would that life actually be? Reader's still a supe, and she probably had to tell Ben eventually. How would he react to all of that? And moreover, she still planned on helping him become Soldier Boy (just the softer and actually heroic version), so not some other, even worse asshole would take on the role and possibly create ten new Homelanders. No matter how I spin it, I feel like we'd end in apocolypse world in the future 😅 (And same goes for taking Ben to the future – who'd be the new Soldier Boy then?)

But still, I'd love to do alternate versions, just to see what would happen in each scenario – kinda like reader running different simulations lol. Can't promise you that they'd be any less angsty, though 😝

PS: Can't reveal too much about Ben's mom, but she's not entirely out of the picture yet 😉🩵

Update/Announcement on the We Keep Falling Apart Series + My Intended Worlds Sequel to Mad Scientist Incorrigible

Hi everyone! Thanks for stopping by.

As you may have heard, I have decided that I will no longer be writing a sequel for Mad Scientist Incorrigible during Worlds this year despite planning to do so for the past few months. I want to assure you that this decision did not come without series deliberation and perhaps an undue amount of anguish. With that said, if you're interested, I'll explain at least a handful of the reasons that I have decided not to write this fic:

I don't want the fic to feel contrived

For context, when I first started drafting this Worlds fic way back in May, I felt confident that JDG would make Worlds and I would be able to continue the series in the way that I wanted to. It wasn't until the LPL summer split started that I realized I shouldn't have taken as much for granted, and I started drafting my back-up fic just in case. No matter how you try to spin it, a sequel to MSI set in a universe where JDG doesn't make Worlds is a work-around, an exercize in "things didn't turn out how I wanted, but let's try to patch things up anyway". I feel like, with the narrative I set up, in this universe, I cannot properly address and resolve the conflicts that I set into motion in MSI while still paying proper respect to all the characters. This was the thing I was most worried about when drafting my back-up Worlds fic: that narrative elements would come across as forced or contrived and the characters would not seem genuine.

2. I am still mourning the loss of what the fic could have been

As implied, it was always the case that the fic I really *wanted* to write was the version in which JDG makes Worlds. If I were to write an alternate version of that fic, it would lack some of the moments that I've been brainrotting about for months, the scenes that I've been wanting to bring to you. It would just feel bad to be constantly reminded of what we're all missing out on, of what could have been. That was just one reason why it was absolutely soul-crushing for me to watch JDG get one game away from making it only to face defeat: that match was absolutely brutal, too, consisting of Ruler being head-and-shoulders above everyone else on both teams, but still losing only because his teammates (not Kanavi - we love you Kanavi and seeing him take on supporting champs rather than carries to help Ruler was inspirational) were playing insultingly poorly and he could only carry them so far. I wish I was exaggerating. I'm not. Ruler deserved to make Worlds - he deserved this fic. However, with things playing out how they did, I'm afraid I can't give it to him.

(Side note: one consideration I had was "If you like the fic idea where Ruler makes Worlds so much, then just write it anyway." I've considered this, but ultimately decided against it because it feels dishonest to what I've set up the WKFA series to be - fics that are grounded in what actually happened, also because of the next reason:)

3. Irl Ruler and Lehends have actually gotten their shit together???

This is the one reason on this list that is actually somewhat positive lmao - but yeah, if you haven't been following, ever since MSI, Ruler and Lehends have actually been pretty vocal about talking to each other. They both really wanted to meet at Worlds, Lehends said that he'd be interested in potentially playing with Ruler again in the future, and overall, they've just been very sweet. With all that going on, launching into an angsty narrative that starts out primarily vihends seems kind of silly to me. I'd feel overdramatic for writing something like that, and Idk, I've probably always been overdramatic, but I feel like it's much more apparent now. So, good for them! I hope they play together again soon <3

4. The fic would take a LOT of my time when I have other fics that I'm more excited to work on

It should come as a surprise to no one that writing longer multi-chapter fics is a significant time investment, and unfortunately, as I am a working person who also has other commitments and hobbies, I do not have an infinite amount of time to spend on writing LoLRPF. With that said, if I were to commit to writing a Worlds fic, that would consume nearly all of my LoLRPF time for the next two months. In that same amount of time, I could write a number of other fun fics, including more RuLehends - angsty, smutty, and/or otherwise - that I would actually enjoy writing. I was happy to delay all my other fics for the change to construct my grand narrative with JDG at Worlds, but now that we're stuck dealing with the knockoff, I feel like my time would be better and more pleasantly spent working on other projects.

5. I don't want to write the fic!

For all the reasons listed above and any number of less articulate ones, I have come to the conclusion as the writer that I do not feel like continuing this series. That, in and of itself, is justification enough not to, with no other explanation necessary.

I hope that clears up some of the questions/comments/thoughts you may have, but if you want to hear more, then please don't hesitate to DM me or shoot message to my inbox. I am also happy to share some of my thoughts about what the Worlds fic could have been, and I might even be convinced to share some snippets of scenes that I pre-wrote during my brainrot over the past few months.

With that established, I am officially marking 8 Seconds to Base as the last entry in the "We Keep Falling Apart" series and marking the series as completed.

I understand how disappointing it is to get excited for a fic or series only for it to get discontinued, so I apologize. Life happens. Unfortunately, my hype for this year's Worlds is almost entirely dead now. I'll take care of myself, though, and hope that you all do the same.

IM SOOO SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG FOR ME TO INFODUMP ABOUT I had an idea VERY MUCH typed out and i showed a friend and then they said some criticism back for a scene that made me stall and realize i need to work it out more and the more I thought this I realized it was dark but.... not entirely unhinged (and you asked for dark so. I will bring the unhinged factor to my aus) so I bring you one that is a bit shorter dark and unhinged.

To note: This takes place in alternative version of cdbazemore98's Jake and Tori Stories series but focused more on Izzy and she is SO mentally ill and has been for such a long time. So, the credit for the main series goes to her. (Please. DO NOT go after her)

note 2- This takes place in J&TS4 a week or so after chapter 25: Spouse betrayal and to give a short gist of the emotional side of this . Jake was overtaken by lust and forced himself (for a kiss) on Ally (an oc of the author) with her husband and his rival Blake (also an oc of the author) there and Izzy watched to whole thing go but didn't reveal herself until Blake and Ally left. She rightfully slapped him and when he revealed why he did what he did (he saw her mother in her; Tori (as is Victoria Vega)) and she screamed "oh so your still in love with tori?" and then proceed to dig into abt him probably wanting to fuck her (she is in her sixties) and her daughters and when Jake couldn't get a word in + very upset at these conclusions she came to he raises his fist at her and threatens to knock her out if she doesn't shut up. Both he and she are shocked at this, and when he tries to explain himself 5 secs later, she is not having it, so she leaves and tells him that her and their youngest daughter won't be at home when he gets there and that he is dead to her.

There is some ongoing mystery plot in the story itself but for this alternative time-line that doesn't matter, and you're going to see why💀

Isabella Green was a miserable woman; she has been for a loooong time and her week just got even worse. A few days after Jake forced himself onto ally and she leaves him to stay at tori's with their youngest daughter Hikari (kari for short). Tori being mostly team Jake although she "hears her out" for her side of things she talks to izzy in a way that makes it clear to her that she's moreso going to believe Jake's side of the story. She never liked her anyway, but she continues to stay because free rent is free rent.

The more kari whines about wanting to see her father and be kissed goodnight by him instead of her, she begins to reflect. "Does anyone really give a shit about her?" "How did her life turn out like this?" "Why didn't she do the deed sooner?", she's been unhappy for a looooooooooong while in her life, even from the age of 11. Depression and low self-esteem have had this girl in a chokehold for a long time, the choke is less or more depending on the day but it's always in the back of her mind. She thought that staying and marrying jake would help that; it does! ...depending on the day. She thought having children would make her happier; It does! though it was unconditional when they were younger... and sure she wasn't always the best mother, but she has noticed that Jake can do wrong in their eyes meanwhile, she isolated from immediately the moment she fucks up.

She doesn't have many friends, she hates the way she looks, any time she tries to do anything that will make her happy, everyone is suddenly a critic. what's the point of being here anymore if she can't be happy? She knows she can't convince Jake to go to couple therapy, everyone will tell her to get over it and what's the goddamn point??? Her kids will probably be smitten to just be with her dad, Jake can find a wife he actually wants to fuck and she can be happy in death.

So after kissing Kari goodnight, she answers Jake nightly call for once. Goes to the bathroom and basically trauma-dumps and chews him out, then after he gets his "I love you my fair maiden please" She traumatizes him for life by shooting herself in the head while he's on call.

Now because she married him, and bore his children, she does get into this Super pirate heaven. Homegirl is vibing, she LOVES it. Got her nice lil tiny home set up and everything and now she can start getting into hobbies she genuinely enjoys without anyone's judgement and she is safe

Meanwhile on earth, they're um ehhhh… Tori and the other's don't really give a shit, they're sad for Jake's sake(Cubby is genuinely sad though). Troy is more devastated than Maia over her death considering he was a momma's boy, Kari is traumatized as she was the first to find her mother's body and Jake is in Tatters, because he knows fucked up majorly to point where he actually doesn't date (he does the occasional prostitute) again despite others recommending he does, but he doessss get into drinking abit more, but he does like his job so.. not really.

Months pass and things have calm down, Jake obviously isn't over his wife's death so he's just semi-misrable and desires to see her again but then skylar so kindly reminds him "Hey what if u use super pirate powers? you can use those to see her like you did with me and maybe bring her back!" Eureka moment there. So he tries, but to no avail she doesn't want to connect with him. After complaining back and forth to the Og Super pirate spirit is like "Ok lemme talk to her... I'm sure we can come up with something." He goes to talk to her and she's like "No i don't want to see them, I doubt they give a real shit" and then trauma dump to him too and tells it about all the things she wished to have done with Jake and her life if not for the twins and having to settle down so early in their 20s. it's like "wow... hmmm you suffered alot.. I think i might have a deal for you." and she was like "??? I'm not a super pirate though?" And he's like "You wish for a new life and your husband wishes for a life with you in it, I can help with both." And he tells her of the plan if she agrees which is, for them to "start over" and take her back to the night where the twins are conceived but she can put a stop to that happening, and with changing that turning point in her life to possibly never or a later date, she can hopefully get the adult life that she truly wants. And while she personally wants it to be younger, she thinks about and realizes she can still do what she wants since she'll still be young with all of the amenities she’s grown accustomed to and agrees. And so with this Izzy is responsible, for the unbirth of her children, de-aging basically everyone and significantly pushing back time. She wakes back up again, as 19-20 year old izzy who is a nervous very uncomfortable wreck because Jake is about to walk in and they're going to have the sex they agreed to do earlier in the week (it was consensually dw) and this time instead of going along with said sex, she works up the courage in her to say no and actually explain to Jake why she isn't interested in sex as whole. She didn’t do so the first time mostly out of fear that it would significantly hurt their relationship or that Jake would leave her or that Jake would just snap and force himself on her, she was scared. And with this no twins are created so you have now a whole new sandbox of conversations that should be haved and therapy to fuck about with.

Leaving the God of their universe to destroy the whole universe as a failed experiment to try and contain Vespodoza... only for him to wiggle out like a cockroach and move onto the next one, and the next one, until eventually, his hubris ends him when HE'S consumed (in spirit) by the little girl who he murdered and stole the body of (while on the flip side, as he's using her body as a sentient cocoon and drug to feel emotions and experiences, it's not capable of understanding on his own : she's consuming his mind and turning the parts of him into her until only one remains: Amity)

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?

I've had the idea for this 'fic for maybe 4 years; its working title was "House Tours With Plot" (a title I've considered recycling several times, so you might see it again someday). For a couple years I considered writing it as a winter solstice holiday piece, but never got around to it.

Earlier this year, I condensed some stray 'fics into 130 Prompts (after retiring some old Prompts drafts I didn't like). This was one of them, so here it is.

I've been wanting to do a piece about Poof's relationship with the Fairywinkles (since, y'know... shady side of the family), so this was a good icebreaker into showing off his lateral freckles and having a run-in with Westley, (plus the "Am I adopted?" convo).

Also I was surprised that Finley was a breeze to write. He may be a grumpy pixie who can't do magic and just wants to play video games forever, but he's a surprisingly fun narrator. He flows really well and I like him.

3: What's your favorite line of narration?

I really like all of Finley's section in particular, but here are a couple highlights:

- I always laugh when people ask what I want my dream job to be. That's cringe, guys. - They can even handle the dry cleaning. I have to do that crap by hand. Please… No way. - "Where's Dad?" I ask, just to irritate him. Me, Palomar, Jardine, and Commelina are basically the only pixies who can get away with calling H.P. "Dad." He's biased towards two on that list, counting them like his children as if he even bothered to raise them. Jardine just can't be tamed. As for me, it's because I don't give a blazing B about what the head honcho thinks of me, and he knows it. - I already miss Foop. He's a total dip, an absolute mess of a person, but he's also my immediate roommate about 90% of the year. - I hate when my desire for malicious compliance falls prey to the need to suck up for good stuff. I pull out my DS again. H.P.'s eyes linger over me like he's debating whether he can get away with telling me that if I have time to game, I have time to take notes on important warehouse crap. 

He has a strong voice and I love him <3

9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

The initial prompt associated with the "I Just Live Here" title was Crocker calling Mark's parents to a parent-teacher conference, and Mark requesting Timmy's help. I think that's a strong premise for a story, but... it never really came to me, and I have too much to write without forcing myself to finish a non-essential piece that doesn't inspire me.

In terms of this story's final plot and what came before, I would have been tempted to include Goldie and/or Sammy Sweetsparkle if the draft hadn't ended up at 17k.

Sammy's a changeling (for Bunsen's family, specifically- idk how many people remember that, but in the Riddleverse, Sammy Sweetsparkle and Bunsen are canonically siblings, based on those episodes where they use the exact same dialogue and I think it's funny). But... didn't really know what to do with it considering I was trying to stay under a certain wordcount per character. Not a lot you can do without Mikey, my beloved.

One day I'll post all the Goodness of Misfit chapters I've been sitting on and everyone will be shocked, including me...

Also, I'd also initially planned for Foop's chapter to include him running an obstacle course, but him talking about the teacups took way longer than I thought, so I left it as it was. Plus, I've done obstacle course stories before and they're rough to convey... More of a good visual gag.

This is pretty much my only Caitlin ship besides Snowstorm, and also one of my only consistent fanon ships (in other words, one that I always like and don't just need the right set of circumstances to get on board with). I love the crumbs of their friendship that we got in canon, and I wish we'd gotten more of them!! 😭

E-1 Killersnow

I'm mostly neutral on them, and that's probably because I have such mixed feelings about them due to their canon development. Before Frost showed up, the foreshadowing of her emergence indicated that Caitlin had a tendency to repress her emotions, and that she had an edgier side that she didn't always let show. So when Frost did show up, I was prepared for her to be an extension of Caitlin that Caitlin had to learn to come to terms with, and eventually she'd become a balanced version of both sides. Then I saw a gifset someone made with the caption that they were girlfriends, and I thought that was an interesting take, because that would make Frost a whole separate individual who just happens to share Caitlin's body, and the idea of them navigating dating under those circumstances would be very interesting. And then, of course, canon decided to turn them into sisters, which I can also see the appeal of, but the whiplash that retcon gave me makes me reluctant to refer to them as such. Tbh I still see season 3 Killer Frost as Caitlin, and I see later-seasons Frost as a completely different character, and seasons 4-5 Frost goes back and forth, so it makes for very inconsistent feelings about them. And of course, I headcanon Frost as aroace and Very Much Not Into Anyone, so I'm not super invested in any ships involving her.

E-2 Killersnow

Earth-2 Killer Frost is much more clearly depicted as Caitlin Gone Evil, and season 2 had a fuzzier, less developed concept of doppelgängers than season 3 and onward, so to me it just kind of seems like shipping Caitlin with herself, just with a different life?? Idk if that makes sense. I do enjoy the one-sided aspect of them, though. Killer Frost was definitely feeling some type of way about Caitlin.

Westhallen

BINGO! These guys are mixed feelings city. I can't really see them working out, but there are aspects of it that have potential. Like, I feel like any couple combination of them could work out (in an alternate timeline) with the other as their bestie third wheel, but given the love triangle in canon, I feel like they'd just be constantly at each other's throats if they tried to all be a thing together. It may be the Dan, Vanessa, and Olivia threesome storyline in Gossip Girl shaping my view of this, since they had a very similar trio dynamic. Also the fact that I've never read any fic for them, so all I have is their canon dynamic to base my feelings on. That said, props to the Westhallen fandom for their use of that "there's three people in this relationship" line. My hat's off to ya. 🎩

Olivarry

I may be alone in this, but I've just never seen Barry and Oliver as being that close. They have some good moments here and there, but it seems like the majority of their relationship is just clashing over crime-fighting styles. I just don't really get it. Of course, the erasure of Cisco as Barry's best friend among the Olivarry fandom doesn't help my enthusiasm level any. On that note, I actually enjoy Olivibe's interactions more than Olivarry's, and I'm waiting for the day someone decides to do something with that.

Oh, yes, yes, yes! To me, this predates Grimtrix being a headmaster. I forget which school of magic I thought he taught in at Hexley before taking over as Hexley's Headmaster. (It's deep in my notes someplace.) But, to me, this idea of using Cedric predates even the concept the Order of the Wand.

I think this goes all the way back to Grimxtrix fundamentally disagreeing with the base premise of Goodwyn's philosophy that "a Sorcerer's job is at the side of the king." Perhaps, there has always been kind of a split down the middle in sorcery society as to what exactly a sorcerer's purpose is. I've always seen Grimtrix as this sort of Madame Morrible like figure in the story of Greylock and Cedric. He pit the two of them against each other so that they wouldn't figure out what the hell his end game was.

Grimtrix was whispering "you can't be friends with that screw up if you want any kind of power or respect" in Greylock's ear. Then, in the same turn, he basically tells Cedric that "Greylock doesn't take magic seriously enough and *you* better than *anyone* remember what happens when people do *that.*" (I also HC that Grimtrix was Greylock's direct mentor in his latter years at Hexley.) So, while the two of them are not teamed up, Grimtrix gets to use both Greylocka and Cedric for whatever schemes he wants. He has two plants in two relatively large and powerful countries. So, he takes advantage of these two students and sets them up to be his plants. I very much think he permitted Cedric to get just demolished in school in an effort to get him to turn evil. Greylock would go along with anything because he was kind of naturally gullible. Cedric absolutely had to be crushed. So, as a high ranking professor at Hexley, he not only lets the abuse happen, he encourages it while making it seem like he's not. This ass-hat, pardon my language, is a master manipulator. He's got absolutely everyone fooled and, by the time The Day of the Sorcerer's rolls around, Grimtrix has had like 30+ years to get in Cedric's head. This has been a long, long time of planning, plotting, and waiting. I have like a truly novel length fanfic planned (eventually) to get into the nitty gritties of how this all plays out and the ins and outs of this. It involves a lot of craziness. Very heavily inspired by the musical version of Wicked, except Dr. Dillamond plays a much more prominent role and we get some alternate perspectives between Cedric's teacher and Cedric. There's also lots of political drama that goes into sorcery culture and the culture of Hexley in general. For those of you interested in Irish history, there's a little of that in there as well because ... why not?

But, all of that to say, I've spent a lot of time thinking about this.

Headcanon

So, this post talks about the episodes 'Hexley Hall' and 'Day of the Sorcerers', and Grimtrix's motivation when it came to Cedric and the Order of the Wand.

I think that Grimtrix blatantly manipulated Cedric to join his side in 'Day of the Sorcerers', so he wouldn't be a threat to his plans to unseat royals everywhere from power and have sorcerers take over the world. Because if Cedric was on his side, then he couldn't be against him, and Grimtrix could therefore keep an eye on him.

Because why else would Grimtrix even think Cedric would be interested in joining the Order of the Wand- let alone could be trusted- after the episode 'Hexley Hall' where he helped Sofia stop him from stealing her amulet and proved that not only was Cedric truly loyal/close to the young princess, but also that Grimtrix greatly underestimated his competence (his ability to stop him) after all, despite his reputation as a bungler?

It was his way of testing Cedric, seeing which was more important to him- his friendship with Sofia (who's a royal) or his desire to finally demolish his poor reputation and prove himself as a great sorcerer. So, he lured Cedric to his cause against the royals with promises of power (he obviously knew about Cedric's reputation as a bungler and likely assumed how much it bothered Cedric) ... and it nearly worked!

In the episode 'Hexley Hall' (season 3):

All throughout this episode, Grimtrix knew how close/loyal Cedric was to Sofia- from the moment he greeted Cedric when he and Sofia arrived at the school, and during all the times he was spying on them in his crystal ball (which is how he learned about Sofia's amulet in the first place, finally giving him the chance to seize his own secret dream of overthrowing the royals of the world), and of course/especially when Cedric used the floating potion on Sofia and himself to escape from Grimtrix... the latter being when Grimtrix realized he'd underestimated Cedric's competence, making him a bigger threat to his plans than he realized (but if he's more clever than Grimtrix originally thought, maybe it would serve him well to try getting him on his side, he likely thought when he planned the Order of the Wand shortly after that).

When Grimtrix subdued Cedric with the Shusher when he first tried to stop him from stealing Sofia's amulet, Grimtrix said to him, "You of all people should realize, Cedric! Aren't you tired of being a glorified jester for King Roland?" (referring to Cedric's reputation and how poorly Roland regards him).

Right after Cedric used the floating potion on Sofia and himself, escaping out the window, Wormwood said to Grimtrix and his old animal friends, "I hope you all learned never to underestimate my master again!" (And I nearly forgot to mention, but Cedric also managed to put a freezing spell on Grimtrix's weasel Wrigley, who Grimtrix revealed he'd sent to steal the amulet for him, so that was another way Grimtrix likely realized he underestimated Cedric).

In the episode 'Day of the Sorcerers' (season 4):

From the moment Cedric and Sofia arrived at the Conjurer's Conference at Hexley Hall, Grimtrix's weasel (Wrigley) can be seen spying on them and wickedly snickering as they happily spend time together, further confirming for Grimtrix just how 'pathetically' close Cedric is to the princess (and I definitely headcanon Grimtrix was also secretly spying on them in his crystal ball, like he did in 'Hexley Hall', and thinking 'Let's see which matters more to Cedric- the chance to finally be seen as a powerful sorcerer or his friendship with the little princess!')

After Wrigley secretly slips Cedric Grimtrix's invitation to the mysterious "meeting of power sorcerers", and Cedric enters the room where Grimtrix and the others are already gathered, Wrigley wickedly laughs and rubs her paws together as she watches him go in (as if to say 'My master will be so pleased Cedric took the bait!')

When Cedric expresses shock, confusion, and suspicion at learning Grimtrix was the one who invited him (and even reminding Grimtrix what happened the last time they saw each other in the episode 'Hexley Hall') and demanded to know what was going on, Grimtrix used blatantly manipulative language on him to lure him even more ("Cedric, old chum! You made it!" and "I'm sure such a powerful sorcerer like yourself will want to stick around and hear my plan! And with my help, you can become even more powerful!"). He even forced Cedric to sit down with his magic (forcefully encouraging him to stay).

After the Order of the Wand all left to take over their respective territories, Grimtrix seemed particularly invested on Cedric taking over Enchancia; when he saw in his crystal ball that Cedric hadn't taken care of the royal family with the Medusa Stone, he said "No surprise there", likely meaning that his weakness of his friendship with Sofia got the best of him after all- again confirming that Cedric was a threat to his plans- so he went to Enchancia to personally make sure that Cedric finished the job

At the castle in Enchancia, Grimtrix had frozen all the royals (except for Sofia) while Cedric was escaping from the dungeon, then he handed his staff with the Medusa Stone to Cedric and said "All you have to do is freeze the princess, and the kingdom is yours! Greatness awaits, King Cedric!" I think Grimtrix was deliberately testing him here, to see if he really had it in him to freeze her or not... but he didn't expect Cedric to freeze him instead!

So yeah, there's The Quarry finished.

In retrospect, me thinking that there might be a cure, an alternative to killing, probably got more characters killed than anything. Note for next run.

Aside from the mandatory heterosexual bullshit, which, let's be real, it's pretty much the price of admission for any media not 100% made for a queer audience, I'm exhausted but I'm used to this, I did greatly enjoy it, like I have all of the Supermassive catalog. Let me get my replays of Cyberpunk and Andromeda, and maybe a play of another game, I'll easily go back in and try again.

Though I DID make a quality of life choice and disabled the "Don't Move" checks. Those screwed me over enough in Until Dawn for me to not want to deal with their bullshit again. And next time through, I'll probably turn down some of the other choices as well - The idea for first time is to do it with no takebacks or particular foreknowledge. Now that I know how things will play out with only my intuition guiding me, it'll be time to go with guides.

On a character level, though, I will say that Emma was easily my least favorite character of the group. Like her whole thing is saying that she doesn't want anything more with Jacob, but... She not only actively tries to make him jealous, she also is actively and intentionally flirting with him as well, so it's just... Clearly you want different things here, he wants a steady relationship and you want things to just be fun and casual, and this can't be justified as "getting the point across."

On the flip side, I feel like the narrative is basically out to make Jacob a designated whipping boy, considering the way that he is both easily killed AND quickly forgotten about by the others (like no one even MENTIONS him after he leaves the group, when no one even really knows that werewolves are involved). Like, I know he's responsible for the group being stranded there in the first place, but the karmic kicking he takes throughout the rest of the game...

Okay, yes, full disclosure, I do think he's cute and I have a tendency to forgive things for attractive characters, but still. It seems excessive to me. Like, it feels like the game, in knowing that it's a send up of like campy (pun intended, by both me and the developers) eighties slashers, stories where a character like Jacob would be defaulted as the hero, so here he's not just responsible for the problems by the narrative, but he's also both punished for it AND shoved out of that hero position by the characters more likely to be the hero in a modern story, but I feel like the writing goes so far in flipping that script on its head that it turns around to abusing him for the crime of... being a dumb teenager with no way of knowing that he's been put in the middle of a horror movie.

Seriously, I want him to just embrace the fact that he's clearly a himbo and needs a nice boy to get over the girl with.

And... the gay content. What there is of it. Like, on the one hand, it's handled in a way where no one ever comments on it, and while this IS a horror game sending up slasher movies, so the characters CAN end up dead, that's true up and down for the straights, too, so that's fine. But it's WEIRD how, once Laura appears in the group, she's thrown together with Ryan and even other characters comment on their interactions being "sparks," especially factoring in that Laura's primary motivation is her BOYFRIEND. Like, I can't even say that it's trying to make him seem not-queer, because it doesn't even make sense for either character. It's just a bunch of weirdness, like the writers couldn't give these characters interactions without trying to add that spark (which, given that I'm gonna go out of a pretty firm feeling limb and guess that the writers were all cishet, could easily just be the case).

Like, going back to the feeling of Jacob being written as the eighties version of the protagonist thrown into the modern setting and getting taken to task for his behavior, this feels like the characters' interactions being pulled from another story where they're totally meant to be together.

I mean, y'all know me, I'll call out forced heterosexuality in video games all the time, but this one is just WEIRD because it doesn't even make justifiable sense in universe that these two would be flirting, and I can see TV Tropes has an entry on it, which means even THE STRAIGHTS noticed.

Anyway. On the queer scale, this is probably no higher than a four. Taking that scale and applying the standard "media is so frustratingly heterosexual" curve, I'd still put it in a solid 8 to 8.5 range. If you have played and enjoyed other Supermassive titles, you'll enjoy this one.

YOU WATCH THE BATMAN! (how about Batman Illya and Cat(wo)man Napoleon, coz ya know... she is a theft)

When I first saw the beginning of this ask I was prepared to say that I'm not actually that big of a Batman fan, that I really only saw the movie because my partner is a big Batman fan, which is all true. BUT. Then I read the end of this, and !!!! This is brilliant?? And even more: how has this never been done before?????

I went looking in the Napollya tag on AO3 out of curiosity, and what I found was that pretty much all the Batman AUs in this fandom are 1) Batman/Superman, for obvious reasons; and 2) in Mandarin. I'm actually not sure how many of them are really AUs vs. crossovers vs. something else wacky going on. Even looking for superhero AUs more generally, there is shockingly little. Of course there is the excellent From Hedonism to Heroism, which is one of my favorite AUs for them, and that does feature a thief-hero Napoleon, but Illya is more like Superman in that one (or, well, Red Son, I guess).

But I digress! Because Batman!Illya and Catwoman!Napoleon is SUCH an excellent setup! Illya makes for a great Batman, what with the tragic past, and the brooding, and the wanting to do good but having that twisted by third parties. And Napoleon is a perfect Catwoman, especially the versions of her that are, on the outside, the brilliant thief who is only looking out for herself, but then she gets unwillingly (at first) roped into helping Batman and ends up sticking with him because she actually does care.

Plus, oh, the opportunities for the flirtatious back and forth! Batman!Illya catching Catwoman!Napoleon at a crime scene and being completely overwhelmed by this outrageous flirting, so that Napoleon gets away, and it happens again and again. Illya tells himself he's not going to let him do it again, but there is just something about this thief that gets under his skin. And you have to have a Bruce!Illya meeting Selina!Napoleon and it just being electric between them, and neither of them really knows why. (Side note: I definitely prefer playboy Bruce Wayne to wet cat Bruce [saw someone call Pattinson's Bruce that and it's SO accurate lmao], and I think it would be hilarious and unexpected if we had playboy Bruce!Illya).

Then they have to work together to bring down some truly bad person (NOT a Joker stand-in, because god I'm tired of it), and they're both falling in love with the other person, but not knowing who the other is really. Also I love the idea of Catwoman!Napoleon taking a bullet or otherwise just about dying to protect Batman!Illya (which is absurd because he's got way better body armor lol), and slipping away before Illya can try to save him, insert line about having nine lives here. What if it's THAT WOUND that makes Illya finally figure out just who Napoleon is? And like, Napoleon is still a thief and Illya should technically turn him in, but he CAN'T because he's too fucking in love with him?? Alternately, Illya takes the wounded Napoleon back to Wayne Kuryakin Manor, because he has no other option really, and when Napoleon wakes up in one of the guest rooms they have to have a Conversation, lolol.

Also, this made me picture Napoleon in a leather catsuit and I just. YES.

Honestly Luka is definitely the biggest deciding factor in this scenario. He's the hardest one to get rid of for Final Round Mizi vs Sua to happen.

The easiest solution is to just say that he doesn't participate in Season 50, which would actually make sense for this AU because that would theoretically change up the initial match-ups.

But figuring out how to deal with Luka is a challenge... and I can't say no to a good challenge.

Here's my first shot at the idea:

Round 1 — Mizi vs Acorn

Placed Mizi first because I think we definitely need a round where she performs before knowing everything

There's something unique about her singing that only exists under those circumstances, and that something will inevitably be lost after facing the horrors of Alnst

It would be a pity to to miss out on it just bc she saw the other rounds first

Also Acorn because I think it would be fun to pit love rivals against each other

Mizi and Acorn face off and on a skill level, Mizi has much more charisma on stage

Mizi was oblivious to his feelings for Sua before this but through performing together, notices and empathizes because she too loves Sua

But when it comes to loving Sua, she refuses to allow anyone to beat her

Acorn loses

Ofc when he's eliminated (read: killed), Mizi is shakened

Round 2 — Marty vs Sua

Mizi is wracked with worry as Sua takes the stage, but Sua sends her a comforting smile

I chose Marty because they have some overlap with Ivan in terms of general vibe/direction of their image as a performer

This in turn means they actually provide an interesting contrast with Sua on stage

I personally see Sua as similar in skill level as Ivan; that along with her existing fan population means the odds are stacked against Marty

Marty loses

Mizi is relieved. The second death is still horrible to watch, but she focuses on the relief of Sua safely winning her round

Round 3 — Ivan vs Durian

For similar reasons as the Marty vs Sua matchup

To no surprise, Ivan wins

Round 4 — Luka vs Till

I made a whole post about why I think Till lost in Round 7

But Round 2 Till did exactly what Round 7 Till didn't, and I think the conditions are right for him to pull the same move in this version of Round 4

Till overrides the bgm of the original song with Freddie and belts out UTTE

Honestly this could be the closest Luka ever gets to losing on Alien Stage

1) Till had been pretty subdued in the preliminaries previously so no one, not even Luka would have known he'd pull something like this

2) because it's Till's original song, Luka wouldn't know it

3) Till has a freakin guitar to overpower the og music

But those "imagine every scenario possible" trainings weren't for nothing

After a stumble, Luka regains his footing

He quickly catches on to the music, and uses the shortest time possible to learn the beat and grasp the general feel of the lyrics

The key point here is that I think Luka's violin would have been prepared for this stage considering Till is bringing his guitar; just to match and parallel each other on the stage

So before they could reach the second half of UTTE, Luka pulls out his violin (prob a segyein too haha) and with a single note, jams the rhythm Till was riding

Luka starts challenging Till through his violin; Till's competative spirit and anger for being interrupted starts to rise

They play back and forth aggressively, alternating between playing (in Luka's case) and singing

Luka gives an incredible display of skill — improvising lyrics as he sings; lyrics that thematically play off of UTTE's original lyrics while also challenging them

This further emphasizes the back and forth rhythm between he and Till, thoroughly decimating the one-sided flow Till had created at the beginning

At this point Luka has seized full control of the performance

Till loses

Till can only look on helplessly, as if his mind hasn't even fully caught up with what had just happened, as he's shot

Mizi is devastated, Sua looks away

Ivan watches it all with unblinking eyes

Round 5 — Ivan vs Luka

This turned out to be a twisted, warped parallel to Round 6:

It starts out calm enough

Ivan and Luka begin their performance

Luka provokes Ivan throughout the song with digs at the falsity of the life they both he lives

Luka weaves a narrative of the rise and fall of Ivan, who burned fast and bright — but will soon to be proven not bright enough

Yet in the end Ivan merely smiles, unshaken; because none of that really mattered

Luka has persisted in tugging at his strings this way and that all throughout the performance in an attempt to make him lose his cool

So Ivan shows him what he's like when he loses his cool, and snaps

Not because of Luka's provocations, but because he's stopped holding back all of the raw fury, loss, helplessness, torment, misery, and violence that had been brewing in him since watching Till's end in Round 4.

Ivan knew there was little chance from the start of him generating enough points to defeat Luka and proceed

So he decides to fully commit to satiating the maelstrom of sordid emotions within him

Ivan seizes Luka throat and strangles him to death on stage, his grip refusing to ease even after their bodies hit the floor

//considering how long it took for them to intercede when Mizi attacked Luka, and Ivan attacked Till in the og rounds, I think Ivan would've had the chance to succeed

//there's also a small aspect of Ivan knowing he can't beat Luka so he may as well take him down with him for Sua and Mizi's sake, but while I think that could be part of his reason when deliberating before the match, in the actual moment I think his actions would only be fueled by pure self-satisfaction and vengeance for Till

Round 6/Final Round — Mizi vs Sua

It's My Clematis of course

Mizi isn't doing so well. All of her friends whom she grew up with and see as family have just died horrifically in front of her one by one. Only she and Sua are left

She may be standing on this stage right now just like she and Sua have always dreamed of, but it's with the knowledge that if they don't succeed, if they truly don't become the first in all of Alnst history to tie, one of them will die

But they have no choice anymore, nowhere to back away to. Mizi stands there with trembling legs

Sua takes Mizi's hand in hers

Mizi looks at her and finds strength in that warmth. She gathers her courage — for Till and Ivan, for everyone else who died on Alien Stage, for Sua, for their dream — and sings

This rendition of My Clematis isn't filled with light as the original was, it is one haunted with the undertones of what they've seen and done to reach this place

But it is also filled with pained love and a prayer for their loved ones, including the hope for the other standing on the stage to live

They don't tie

Mizi sees the final score and her heart drops from her chest

She throws herself in front of Sua

And that's all I've got!

No matter how much I mulled things over, I can't imagine how any of the cast would be able to defeat Luka in a straight on fight, short of the wild card of Luka's heart issues acting up.

But narratively there's no way to integrate that — for it to just randomly happen without any trigger or reason is kinda meh. Sabotaging him somehow (ex. messing with his meds) is an option but none of the Season 50 contestants have the resources or access to him that would be needed for that plan, and honestly even for the most likely character to do so, Ivan, it isn't necessarily his style.

So the only answer I could come to is straightup murder on the stage ☆

I'm not 100% satisfied with this version because there are some plot holes and ideally Mizi and Sua would be in totally opposite brackets, but maybe I'll take another crack at it eventually.

I want an AU where Mizi and Sua meet in the final round instead

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?

It's been a WIP for eight years, so there was a lot of inspiration along the way. The core ideas - someone getting trapped in her own head in the process of protecting herself, needing someone else's help to undo it even after she was physically safe, and not being able to get someone else out with her - came out of the two years I spent at a residential boarding school (no, mine wasn't on the level of the kinds of places that make the news, but I still can't recommend the experience).

Everything else was built out of things I was interested in exploring - telepathy without the required secondary powers to make it useful, the kinds of things that might have happened during the war before Cybertron died, elements of Bayverse that I liked in theory but not in execution. Also, girl robots. Basically Shatterpoint is the super-long plotty fic that I really wanted to read and couldn't find.

As for why I went with the "write the whole damn thing and then post it one chapter at a time" approach, I wanted it to be done because I have a bad habit of not finishing WIPs if I post too early, but I also wanted the fun of watching people yell about my carefully chosen cliffhangers.

2: What scene did you first put down?

The very first scene I ever wrote for it was a very early version of the Ion Storm fight that ended up in Chapter 14. It was a lot more of a fight at the time; the posted version is pretty one-sided, because all the characters involved went through drastic changes in the edits. Riella is the only character who stayed involved all the way through the edits - I don't think the Decepticon antagonist originally had a name at all, and Red Alert's role rotated through half a dozen people.

7: Where did the title come from?

The title just popped into my head back when I was working on the cortical psychic patch scene for the first time - at the time, I didn't know where it came from, but it was so perfect for both that scene and the broader fic themes that I didn't question it. It's been Shatterpoint basically since I started working on it.

I later realized I'd stolen it from a 2003 Star Wars Expanded Universe novel. Thankfully it's pretty good, so I don't have to feel weird about the association.

9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

It went through a lot of alternate versions over the years! Originally it was just three scenes in my head (the Ion Storm fight, the cortical psychic patch, and the one I just posted today). Basically everything not in those scenes has changed at least twice.

-Riella wasn't originally an Autobot spy. That got adjusted for "it's too convoluted" reasons. The specific Autobots that rescued her also changed up a few times - I went through and cut out a bunch of characters at one point because there were "too many", only to add back an equal number in the final draft.

-Project Trypticon went through a bunch of different types of mad science, with the antagonist in the chapter 28 scene not always being related to it. Shockwave really was trying to make his own custom outliers at one point, like First Aid speculates in the early chapters. I think I also bounced around Predacons and combiners, though neither of those made it out of the plot notes stage.

-The character death in the Ion Storm fight was a relatively late addition. The plot was in desperate need of some actual stakes, First Aid wasn't doing what I needed him to do, and near-death injuries weren't cutting it.

-Soundwave showed up at one point. I cut him out almost immediately, because he made the Decepticon side of the plot impossible unless I made every single character deeply unintelligent and also a terrible person. Relatedly, Prowl was originally a lot less likable (not that he really is now, but he was a real piece of work in the early drafts). Had that characterization stayed, Riella would have punched him at one point.

-That Thing That Just Happened In Chapter 28 was always planned to happen, but after I started posting the fic and saw which characters people responded to, I started bouncing around an AU in my head where it didn't happen. It was never an option for the actual fic, but somewhere there's a parallel universe where the war ended super early in a few spectacular explosions.

15: What did you learn from writing this fic?

On a purely technical level, I learned a lot about writing and editing and what worked and what didn't through the process of writing it. I didn't have a beta reader (aside from a friend who very kindly read over the early Electron sections to make sure I wasn't doing anything weird), but I went to college and got an English degree right in the middle of working on it; I went through my drafts pretty regularly to apply the stuff I was learning in class and could literally watch the fic get better right in front of me. It's one reason I'm glad I was determined to finish it before posting, because it is so much better now than it was eight years ago. (Not perfect! There's a couple chapters I still want to edit chapter 20-21, looking at you. But a whole lot better.) I also figured out about halfway through the writing process that some of the themes were IMAX-level projection, which both gave me some things to chat about in therapy and some places where I needed to adjust the writing to be less me and more character.

On a less-serious note, I learned that fight scenes work a lot better if I stand up and wave a sword around for a while to get a feel for what motions the characters are making, that I ship Lancer/Greenlight/Arcee, and that no matter how hard I try to finish the fic in advance, I will be editing right up until the second I hit post.

Hi! :) I was reading your post about SQH in TUT and it got me thinking. Since this version also wrote SVSSS, when he transmigrates does he realize his "dream" was real? Also, you hinted that he recognizes SY as the same person who transmigrated into SQQ, so now I'm wondering if he tells SY that, and how SY would react to learning he's the protagonist of SVSSS in another universe. I just love thinking about how meta this could potentially get, haha.

You’re right. There is a lot of meta potential with older!Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky being the MXTX equivalent in this AU—or, rather, I like to imagine him growing up to be the Stephen King equivalent of modern day China with a prolific portfolio of written works (novels and short stories, and extras). In canon, he churned out a great number of words per chapter and in a speedy amount of time! Do you guys know how miraculous that is, as a writer? I envy him so much! To be able to churn out that much content in a short amount of time, and in a scheduled regimen, is amazing! That’s basically my angle having written this into the prologue of TUT. That’s partially the reason why I wrote ch1. I liked the idea of paying homage to SVSSS and saying that it’s an actual book series in TUT universe that Airplane wrote (as funny as the idea would be, I wasn’t about to let SY be the one to write it, lol, for intellectual property reasons since the PIDW characters belong to Airplane, which would necessitate SY changing names and character appearances if he published what we know as irl SVSSS, so the best I can give SY is saying he wrote his own PIDW fanfic which basically launched his novelist career because he’d realized, hey, I actually have a knack for writing and the ever so spiteful I feel like practically every writer has had this thought before: fine, if I don’t see what I want to read, then I’ll write it myself!)

I personally love meta. If I’m to be writing a lovestory to SVSSS, there will be attempts at meta thrown into TUT. And this is one of them:

Airplane did “dream” about canon SVSSS. He basically “dreamt” about his favorite black powder fan, Peerless Cucumber

changing events of Airplane’s biggest regret Proud Immortal Demon Way. (As a writer, it embarrasses me to read my old writing. So I imagine it could be the same for Airplane.) As an author, Airplane recognized what he dreamt had potential to be a commercial success as a danmei transmigration story so basically every time he woke up, he would write pieces of what he remembers in a dream journal when the memory was fresh in his brain. It also allowed Airplane the opportunity to show his readers through the perspective of SY! Shen Qingqiu what Airplane had originally wanted to write, but integrated in a way that blends seamlessly into the reading experience. He would’ve thought it was a bit weird and strange that his brain dreamt about his past critic—whom he’d considered a small celebrity in the PIDW forums back then—aka his anti-fan-turned-accomplished-novelist in the writing industry, so he felt embarrassed that his unconscious brain must have thought very highly of the man.

So Airplane omitted any mention of Peerless Cucumber from the final draft of SVSSS (if he mentioned both “Shen Yuan” and “Peerless Cucumber,” then even SY would be like, Hey, wait one moment....). This detail will be included in a later chapter, but did you know the name “Shen Yuan” has come up in other works? Let’s ignore the variations on the Chinese written characters for the name “Shen Yuan.” There was the evil older brother character Shen Yuan from The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage, a side character named Shen Yuan from a C-drama (I think he was an old minister?), and there’s even an irl visual artist named Shen Yuan. Shen Yuan (Shen Garden) is also a famous romantic garden in Shaoxing, known for the love story between Lu You and Tang Wan.

Basically “Shen Yuan” in itself is not a particularly uncommon name in China (imo I would not say it’s super popular either). So when SY saw his name mentioned once or twice in Airplane’s SVSSS—aka rebooted PIDW—during his read-through, he was like, Huh, what a strange coincidence. And then dismissed it as circumstantial and thought nothing of seeing his name come up in a cutsleeve novel as the new protagonist, haha. It’s like a book written by Anne Rice; one of the titles coincidentally has the same name as mine. Now, obviously the book and main character is not based or inspired by me; I just coincidentally share the same name. If I see books which have characters with my same first name, generally I like to read them and sometimes even collect them for my bookshelves. Because there’s something just so fun and interesting about seeing your own name in a fictional piece of work.

There’s also meta joke potential about Airplane dreaming of himself being transmigrated into the cannon fodder Shang Qinghua and seeing the romantic miscommunications between the younger version of himself (his self-insert essentially) and the fictional Mobei jūn character. I can certainly say seeing such dreams would make Airplane question his sexuality and awaken something dormant in him, haha. He’d realize he might not be not as straight as he thought he was, if his brain was capable of dreaming of SY!SQQ being crushed on by LBH, and SQH being crushed on by MBJ and essentially following MBJ around calling him “my king” this and “my king” that. He’ll be sweating bullets when he meets this world’s version of MBJ, because Airplane will definitely remember how the younger Self-Insert version of himself acted toward MBJ in the SVSSS world. (It’s the classic “Just because I dreamed about it happening doesn’t mean it’ll happen here, right? ...Right? Cucumber brother, you’re a fortuneteller! Please check our eight characters for me! I have to know my marriage compatibility with Mobei jūn!”)

In a later chapter, there will be the reveal where Airplane tells Shen Yuan that he “dreamt” of a universe where a younger version of Shen Yuan—having choked on mantou (馒头) (paying homage to the donghua) or just being transmigrated in general after raging at a younger ASTTS’s writing (paying homage to the books)—transmigrated into the Shen Qingqiu we know from SVSSS who married Bing mèi. Because I think it will be hilarious when TUT’s SY finds out about the true source of Airplane’s inspiration, and he’ll naturally freak out over the fact that this is the very same Bing gē from Airplane’s Bing-gē vs Bing-mèi extra and that he’s essentially somehow stumbled on the same path as the alternative younger SY!SQQ “from Airplane’s imagination.” I will leave this open to interpretation if this does show up (it’s just an idea I’m playing with) but I might hint that there might be a higher power at play which allowed Airplane a peek into another universe—which manifested as his dreams.

I very much like this dynamic (we might see this exchange, verbatim, in a future chapter in TUT):

SY/ LBH —> He gave him a disdainful gaze.

Airplane cried inwardly at the oppression and the feeling of being wronged.

Haha, none of this is really Airplane’s fault^ though. It’s a fun parallel and if I’m still motivated when we get to the wedding and consummation chapter, we might see an epilogue where SY and Bing gē from TUT meets SY!SQQ and Bing mèi maybe. Because I think it’ll be funny with the two LBHs getting into a shouting/ fighting match about who has the “superior Shen Yuan” while the two SYs just shake their heads at their silly husbands (and potentially TUT’s SY, as the older party, can impart his fortunetelling wisdom and advice to SY!SQQ).

Personally I can’t wait when we get to those chapters, because I know it’ll be entertaining to write, haha. Personally TUT is a fun project because there’s just so much meta potential that can be incorporated and I have a lot of fun imagining the scenarios.

The Novelists’ First Impressions

The first impression SY and Airplane will have of each other will be fun. Because in their perspective, written in my notes it’s essentially like:

(Airplane seeing SY):

His first reaction was shock. Shock because the mere mortal he used to be could not conceive so much charisma being emitted by this guy.

This is definitely a man who had put all of his stats into CHARISMA.

(SY seeing Airplane):

He's suspiciously good looking in ways that normal people are not.

Ah, the Cucumberplane friendship in TUT is going to be so much fun. Not only are these two older souls who transmigrated (both are mid-aged in this universe), they’re both accomplished novelists in their own right in the writing industry. Which means with these two being celestial beings, there’s so many clichés we can playfully poke fun at.

It also makes me laugh because imagine being SY, and seeing a guy (mortal!Airplane) who exudes the same energy as these two imperial princes GIFs:
