I cannot stress this enough but if anyone actually believes any of freuds theories beyond the one about personality and anxiety and defense system, that's a red flag. Like seriously speaking he's just??? Terrible??? and hmm my favorite books... you'll probably notice that all of them are gothic/have a semblance of gothic influence in them, since that's my favorite genre of literature by far. the picture of dorian gray by oscar wilde, rebecca by daphe du maurier, we have always lived in the caste/the haunting of hill house by shirley jackson (my favorite author), and a shadow over innsmouth by hp lovecraft to name a few. i like a lot of fiction basically. most of the nonfiction i read is either true crime, psychology textbooks, or journal articles about obscure topics,, so i'm not sure how interesting that stuff is to others.
