Cleistocactus strausii, also known as the silver torch cactus, at the Stanford Arizona cactus garden. When the sun hits it it kind of glows from all the hairs on it. If you're gentle you can pet it without being poked, as long as you're petting down and not up.

I finally transplanted all my succulents/cacti! With the two newest ones I got today, a moon cactus (which is actually two cacti, it's really cool) and a silver dollar jade! With them is a panda plant, a Peruvian torch cactus, and some baby ones I'm not sure about, but I think it's a california sunrise! They switched pots with my mother in law's tongue, and I'm really excited to fill in the empty space! Succulents and cacti are my favorite and I should probably just stop typing now.

Adding a vertical element to this cacti house is Cleistocactus strausii (silver torch). This is a vigorous cactus covered in white spines on hairy, bluish-grey columns. It must be lovely when covered in tubular deep red or burgundy flowers which are scattered along the stems in summer.

I had a friend over yesterday, and i was literally about to say to him how i wanted to repot this cactus as i felt it wasn't growing much, so i was hoping more room would let it grow, but before i could he pointed to it and said how big it's got! Herbs and Their Witchy Names

One of the things you might notice when working with spells is they call for some different ingredients. For example, eye of newt, wool of bat, toe of frog. To some who happen across these spells it can help lend to some of the fear surrounding witches because some of the ingredients may seem a bit bizarre. However, you will often find that seldom will those ingredients be literal. For example, if you see eye of newt in a spell, you are not going go out and get an actual eye from a newt. It actually refers to mustard seed.

The reason we have these names, stems from ancient times when it was not safe to keep spells about. So to protect the craft these names would be used instead. Some of them are just Old English, and some even date back to ancient China. A lot of times, you will find that the name is based on what the herb resembles. You will also find that many witches still use these names to this day. The more you work with magick and spell work the more familiar with these names you will become. I wanted to provide you with a basic list that you can use to work with as you are becoming familiar with working with them. As you find more you can add more to it.

It's days like this I am glad no one in my real life knows about Tumblr. Because argh.

I work in a fairly decent sized library in the North of England and, unfortunately, my shift takes in the Monday evening slot when we open until 7pm. Generally everything is pretty dead between 4 and 7pm, and we use the time to tidy up, check our emails and sort our own library accounts out (library folk are the worst for having overdue books, don't tell anyone). Today, all the weirdoes came out.

First there was the guy who spoke broken English, but what he could say was misogynistic as all get out.

Then there was the customer who asked my colleague about whether he thought he had an STI or not.

And finally there was large group of eight uncontrollable children and two adults who did not give a single solitary shit what their children did. Wander into the staff only area? Fine! Go up the (marked as unsafe) old wooden stairs to the balcony? Sure! Throw paper planes off of the aforementioned balcony? Makes sense whilst you're up there, right? Pull a really tall Silver Torch Cactus out by it's roots? Darn tootin'.

Actually, you know what? It was the adults that did that last one. Got a 40cm high Silver Torch down from the top of a bookcase and put it on one of the children's tables where eight children crowded around it and pulled it right out of its pot.

Why would you do something like that? We don't have a sign asking folk not to touch the cactus but it's quite large and prickly so we never thought we needed one.
