i wish i enjoyed the office us ver like i thought i would and yeah it's supposed to be satire but i think the first few seasons draw near to cringe (which i guess is on purpose?) and michael was just not a tasteful character at all. jim and pam's slowburn delighted me! had high hopes for season 5 because it's usually when a show does best but it was a bit meh. season 6 was much better especially cus they opened strong. the parkour cold open was fun. i'm now in season 8 and there's been lots of criticisms of it but i am liking it so far!

and yes i have taken into consideration the time period this was shot and aired because it plays a huge role in how the show was done! nonetheless i think it could have been done better!

lowkey i feel like we don't appreciate the subtle beauty of the concept of media like night and the museum and ghosts. like literally just imagine: a place where history, and its people that are a part of it, comes alive. not exactly literally, but it's there in a way that people can not just see, but have the chance to interact with. and yet no one really sees it until a special person comes along who doesn't seem all that special until something happens that brings them a connection to that history (having watched natm and ghosts it seems like the more traumatizing the introduction the better ehl oh ehl) and it takes a while for them to get used to it but then they do. and they think "oh, well, great, i gotta live with the fact that i'll have concerned citizens from 6th century A.D. asking me who daniel day lewis is" but then it becomes more than that. that person finds a family in the past, and they come to love it as much as it loves them. despite differences between people who lived decades and centuries and thousands of years apart from each other, they find hope and love and redemption, which sounds really naive but it's not impossible. our past unites us, and we are all one and the same when it comes down to it.

history is not all that great. but it's some thing to be no. 1: cherished, because we wouldn't be here without it, no. 2: learned from, so we can get wisdom from the many fricked-up things we have done, and no. 3: remembered, which is the most important, because yes, our leaders sucked and were not who we are taught they were, our nations are not the picture of patriotism they are so often depicted as, citizens are not always happy or treated fairly, but at the same time we have shown the world that leaders, as much as they have brought nations down, have often times brought it to staggering heights, and different nationalities show just how different we all are and at the same time just like each other. if we're aggrieved citizens, we can unite, and in our unity many find hope and family and love and redemption. we'll never be perfect; we're wrecks, history is painfully obvious in that, but that doesn't mean there's no goodness here, because there is.

Tried watching the American version of Ghosts again. It's worse. Definitely worse. But in, like, an *insulting* way. They removed every subtlety! Do they think my American brain was incapable of comprehending that Captain was in the closet without him making stereotypical jokes about it every three sentences??? And they made Fanny younger and "hotter". For why? Hhh. Agh. Argh. I need to make art of the original BBC series.

what the fuck is the american college experience because when I walked out of my class thirty minutes early the professor asked me where I was headed off to in a rather condescending way and I had to look him dead in the eyes and inform him I was having an allergic reaction before just fucking walking out, and on my way to the campus health center/urgent care a very smiley lady gave me a ten dollar Ikea coupon…? Saying no to her was not an option. And now I gotta sit here for a bit and when I go home I gotta write a 12 page paper on how the criminal justice system in this country sucks because apparently having health issues isn’t enough to get you an extension on an “optional” paper since it was assigned last week. and when I told my friend all this they said “average college experience”

could fern leaf be a former park cat or something that clear sky sends to spy on tall shadow & then defects? or, since she’s important to the rescue of star flower in the books, maybe she could be involved with one-eye somehow…? even though star flower is totally different now, so she doesn’t really Need rescuing from any situation she’s in that you’ve talked about so far. guess it depends on which aspects of the character best serve the story, and whether she would work better as part of DOTC proper or thunder’s SE

i also genuinely can’t remember if bb!clear sky’s original M.O. for his group is Tribe Cats Only, or if he is willing to take in anyone who kisses his ass enough. could make sense if fern leaf (or more accurately, any tom willing to vouch for her) appeals to clear sky enough. hell, maybe she could be a mole on one-eye’s behalf instead?

The new rub to the formation of the groups in BB is that there is two distinct cultures in the forest: Park Cats and Tribe Cats. They're divided by a language barrier, with the Park Cats speaking Parkmew and the Tribe cats speaking what we now call Old Tribemew.

So Clear Sky doesn't have the same "options" like canon. These ""rogues"" don't speak his language and he simply would not learn even if the chance was offered to him. It doesn't even really cross his mind that these are full people to reach out to; in his mind they're intruders. The flavor of bigotry in the modern era hasn't quite evolved yet, so he has the most straightforward kind of xenophobia you can imagine.

He only starts changing his mind after the First Battle, after his revelation, when he's back on his bullshit in Thunderstar's Justice. In my head it's kind of like... a mockery of Thunder Storm's way of life, that allowed him to live in defiance of him for so long. "See, now I do what you do. Since Gray Wing approved of you so much." kinda thing

There's two park cat groups; The River Kingdom, and The Wind Coalition.

The first conflict the Sun Trail Pioneers run into is with WindCo up on the moor, who chases them down into the forest! The Park cats who lived in the forest weren't united, just various individuals that had little "homestead" territories.

The conflicts with them start after the Shadow/Sky split that follows the death of Jagged Peak. Shadow's Clan moved eastward into the caves at Snakerocks, where no one bothered them, but Sky's Clan started getting hostile towards the little homesteads and pushing cats westward, back to the River Kingdom.

SO with that recap out of the way...

I have two and a half-ish cats already that I'm heavily interested in using to turn on Clear Sky for Thunder's Clan. So I'm not sure how to slot Fern Leaf in there.

1: Snake. Snake is the only cat in-canon who said that maybe Clear Sky shouldn't be their leader after letting One Eye into the Clan against all warnings, and then he gets DOGPILED for it, and the very next book shoves him into the arms of Slash to undermine the fact that they accidentally gave him a good fucking point.

I'm RIDICULOUSLY fond of him because of this. I love him out of spite. I've spoken before about how I plan for him to be a Tribe-descended cat, and a lot of that is because I want to keep his goon roles serving Clear Sky. One of which is that he is going to badly injure Sunlit Frost in the First Battle.

So thinking about it... it makes the most sense for Snake to turn on Clear Sky in Thunderstar's Justice. Still unsure when. But if I have any roles where a cat needs to get help, stop a battle, or call Clear Sky out for making a really bad decision, it's gotta be him.

I'll keep him in my hand for a while; this feels like a piece that will fall into place.

I'm also unsure of what family he's going into. I keep waffling on it. I'm leaning towards the Claw family and possibly the son of Fox, since he's going to be living a bit longer. He's going to be about the same age as Thunder Storm, maybe a bit older.

2: Red Claw Since Acorn Fur is now Acorn Swoop, and she's not nonsensically going to go join the guy who killed both of her parents because it would be too sad to go home where they're not alive, her love interest has to end up in Thunder's Clan.

I'm already pretty committed to making Petal into Petal Claw and Fox into Fox Claw, so it follows that Red Claw would be in the family. Thinking about it, maybe Red should be the son of Fox instead...

Especially because he could defect earlier. Moth Flight's Vision is totally overhauled anyway and I'm planning to shift a lot of the original plot to something for another character anyway...

Plus, enemies-to-lovers is fun and I haven't really had a chance to do it yet. Acorn Swoop is absolutely the kind of punk who would nab one of her worst enemy's best soldiers, and the type of nerd who would frame it like her biggest catch yet.

And most relevantly... this is leaving Fern Leaf's backstory up in the air. Him leading a dog pack into the heart of camp and getting Beech and Frog killed is what kicked off the Bunny Bones plot of the original MFV that I like so much, and I feel like it's an important part of Fern Leaf.

So not only am I here planning Red Claw as a high priority for being someone to turn against Clear Sky, but also, he complicates Fern Leaf a bit.

Maybe I should step back a bit on the two and start from scratch with them, and replace their backstories with new ones that preserve the "emotional core." I'll have to think about it.

That 1/2 Cat: Alder or Birch The kits that are stolen from Misty, that queen who was murdered by Clear Sky and whose kits are given to Petal. In BB, that's something I want to examine for how fucked up it is. It becomes the basis of Kit Stealing later, an awful practice that the Clans will struggle with for many generations.

These ones are SUPER important, but I say 1/2 because it doesn't have to be Thunder's Clan they turn for. But I do want one of them to eventually learn their origin, and end up finding their family in River Kingdom or the Wind Coalition.

I mention them because I keep going back and forth on if they're going to get combined with other characters. Basically imagine me next to a big conspiracy chart and I'm connecting a big red line between possible plot threads back to Fern Leaf. Maybe her? Maybe she can be one of the stolen kits?

I could even make it so Birch is actually an older sibling, or a half-sibling, or one from the same litter who was saved... maybe even end up making it a litter of 4. Slots in well with her canon story, too, where she mentions her mother abandoned her.

The truth can be that it was a lie. Her mother didn't abandon her. One of them was murdered and the other was chased off.

And, of course, I could save her to be a "One Eye Cultist." None of my drafts so far have brought in any extra followers of One Eye who will follow him from place-to-place besides Star Flower herself. I would like to add some, and that's a fine place for Fern Leaf, but somehow I feel like I can do her better.

The extreme emphasis on “realism” in fiction that people seem to have these days is infuriating. Not every single detail in a story needs to be 100% realistic.

Like yeah the poster probably shouldn’t have still been on the wall in the when Andy Dufresne escaped in Shawshank Redemption. But it didn’t matter whether the poster was on the wall or on the ground, he still would’ve escaped. What makes for a better scene? The warden freaking out, then slowly realizing what happened as he rips the poster off the wall, or a guard just coming into his office and saying “Andy escaped! There was a hole behind the poster in his cell!”?

Sure, in real life, Chandler and Monica from Friends would not have been able to hide the fact they were dating for months. But Friends was, you know, a sitcom, and the situations that they found themselves in trying to hide their relationship made for some of the funniest episodes of the entire show. Phoebe attempting to seduce Chandler to get him to admit he’s dating Monica would be completely insane in real life, but The One Where Everybody Finds Out is considered by many to be the best episode of the entire show and is the highest rated Friends episode on IMDb.

Sometimes, the best way to tell a story is to be a bit unrealistic, but people forget that because of assholes who think pointing out minor plot holes or contrivances makes them seem smart.

My two cents on Alex becoming a veldigun after spending too much time with Clyde: it's honestly a pretty cool idea and y'alls designs are amazing. But I find it difficult to accept it as happening because of my own perceptions and ideas about how the veldigun work.

We don't know yet how veldigun form and Mortimer, at least in his old lore, wasn't a veldigun because of the veldigun goop. He was something non-human.... and that reminds me of Dr. Lankmann.

Lankmann is very cleary not human, at least not anymore, but also evidently not a veldigun either. My personal theory is that he started to decay and transform into... whatever he is due to spending a lot of time around Winfrey. He was in the room while Winfrey ate patient 66, so we can assume he's always present when feeding it.

So... hear me out for a bit

Alex, after a couple months of Clyde living in his house, becomes a wanted criminal after freeing patient 66 and goes into hiding with the other two. After some time, Alex starts feeling... weird. His skin is getting discolored, weird bruises and scars are forming, he feels like he's falling apart. He doesn't know what's happening and Clyde doesn't either. If he was turning into a veldigun, it could help him with the ropes. But this isn't something it has seen happening. And the only other person who could possibly know what's going on, is the one hunting them down.

So this includes the previous stuff and the new stuff. First two alineas are the ones i posted before, second two are the new ones.

Footsteps echoed across the cobbled street as Hades made his way through the city, keeping his head low. He could feel the stares of people on him, pulling his hood on tighter. His gaze trailed across the many stalls and shores, before a quiet hum caught his attention, head snapping toward a flower store. Red tousled curls, neatly tied into a long braid, falling across a bare back, and a few loose strands perfectly framing a friendly face with rosy cheeks. Her eyes, however, were what caught his attention. Gorgeous deep green eyes, which reflected the sunlight just perfectly, making her expression look all the softer. She carefully arranged some flowers, creating an autumn coloured bouquet, handing it to a costumer, whom thanked her with a smile. It was only then her attention drifted to the hooded man staring at her. Admittedly, she felt creeped out, but there was no gut instinct telling her he was dangerous, so she simply flashed him a smile, walking over. "Hello, sir. Can I help you?" She tilted her head, looking at him with those kind eyes.

Hades snapped out of it, face flushed red in embarrassment. He hadn't meant to stare, but he'd simply been too entranced by her beauty. Hades wasn't a shallow guy, far from it. But Gods, she was beautiful. His hood slowly fell off his head as he gazed at the sky to avoid creeping her out more, eyes now uncovered. "Uh... Hello?" The redhead was still staring at him, waiting for a response. "Oh! Erm... You're talking to me?" He muttered softly, eyes downcast. That was what she noticed first. She found his eyes to be lovely. Kind and soft. Her gut had been right, this man wasn't dangerous. Dissapointed that he wasn't daring to make eye contact, she spoke again. "Yes, I'm talking to you, silly." The florist chuckled, her laugh sparkling like a stream of mineral water in a bright beam of sunlight. "You know, it's quite rude not to look at someone when they're talking to you." Her voice was filled with amusement. "Uh, I... Sorry?" Hades spoke, anxiety lacing his every word. "What's your name? I'm Persephone." She smiled softly. Persephone fiddled with her dress, a faint blush spreading across her cheeks. "Hades. My name is Hades." His voice quavered, eyes going to her lips. Wait, no. That's weird. His eyes instead moved to his own hands, fidgeting with the hem of his hoodie.

"Hades." Persephone mulled over the name for a moment, before a thought popped into her mind. Hades and Persephone. That sounded weirdly nice. She blushed even more heavily, imagining her lips on his and being able to call him hers. But just as soon as it came, Persephone pushed the thought away. "I haven't seen you around here before. Are you new?" She asked instead. "No, I'm not new. Not really." She didn't recognise him? Good. That meant she didn't know that he and his brothers- Not the time, Hades. You're talking to a pretty girl. You shouldn't screw this up with thoughts about him. A shudder rippled through his body. Persephone immediately noticed, concern spreading over her face. "Are you alright?" "... Yes. Just... Cold." Hades didn't normally lie much, but this one just slipped out. He wasn't even sure why he lied. Perhaps to protect her? To not have her face the disgusting truth about him. That was the reason. It wasn't a lie for her sake. It was a lie for his sake. A lie for his own selfish desire to be known for murder. Just this once. He wouldn't be able to bear seeing the same disgust and disdain in her eyes aswell. That everyone else looked at him with hatred was already bad enough. This might just be his only chance to have a clean slate with someone.

"Oh." Persephone fell silent. She felt something was off, but she didn't press the matter. Her eyes traced the area behind Hades, focusing on the clock tower. As the hands of the clock hit 10 AM, the shrill sound of the bell rang through the city. Hands moved to cover her ears. She'd gotten used to the bell, but the ringing in her ears afterward was always a pain. Hades's expression contorted as he counted the ringing. 10 times. He was running late. Very late. Panic flashed in his eyes. "Persephone, it was lovely talking to you, but I need to go." With that, he ran off, leaving Persephone looking flabbergasted. She watched him go, before sighing softly. Her gaze turned to her flowers again, melancholy in her eyes. She didn't hate her job, not at all. But she dressed the lonely hours when there were no customers. Fingers wrapped around a snapped stem, which attached to a wilting rose. The scent infiltrated her nose, and she seemed sad. How unfortunate that this lovely flower had to meet its end. Quietly, Persephone mourned the rose, getting on her knees to bury the remains.
