something wacky about me is that I have never in my life played a modded elder scrolls game because I have never in my life played an elder scrolls game that wasn’t on Xbox 360 or Nintendo switch

not a fan of the brown filter vs the blue filter in the original for the Oblivion remake but that can easily be modded. also not a fan of the coloration of Anvil (my fav city in Oblivion) but again, easily fixed with mods/enb console commands so idc that much really. I'm really interested in how the people look and any armor redesigns. I wanna see the character creator

I haven't drawn fanart in well over a decade, but you can literally thank Mara for this silly sketch of Valdimar teasing Erandur.
Mara, one of our cats, got outside late last night while I was taking out the recycling. She's only ever gotten out maybe twice before, so she freaked out and ran. Luckily, I was able to keep track of her (mostly) and got her back in, but she nearly gave me a heart attack because I was terrified that she'd run into the woods out back.
She's safe, but I was jittery as hell afterwards. So, to calm down I dove into Skyrim and she demanded lap cuddles. I felt like drawing afterward, and this happened.
I love "pathetic wet cat of a mer" Erandur, he's so skrunkly in the beginning. Valdimar is fun, but I'm going to have to bust out my old anatomy books to get his big stupid muscles right.
If you can't read my scrawl - Line 1 - Says something wildly inappropriate & flirty Line 2 - Thinks it a joke* Line 3 - *Not joking
I hope you like it!
Tumblr media
Obligatory Cat Tax. We named her after the goddess because her mission in life is to cuddle and be on our laps as often as possible. Also, if anyone in the house is unwell in any way, she will bestow her blessings by either laying on the affected area and purring loudly, or giving a morale bonus with adorableness and affection.
Mara be praised!

I adore Roisia! Do you have other Tavs fleshed out like her/in the process of making? I’ve got about 7 because I have no self control and learning how to play other classes through new characters/choices is super fun for me, though I tend to gravitate towards charisma-based classes most of the time
Tumblr media
Yes! I'm currently and very slowly doing a playthrough with my TES Dunmer, Bodran. Similar to Roisia, he'll have a game-specific tag when I feel like drawing his experiences: BG3 Bodran.
Tumblr media
I am usually very, very slow at making new characters. Absolutely glacial. I usually recycle (upcycle?) characters I have created for previous games and universes (most of which, tbqh, are likely originally from Skyrim). But, on the other hand, I don't think my characters would be as fleshed out or feel as real to me if I didn't constantly port them from game to game to game.

Okay I know this is the one of literal thousands of complaints valid and vapid made over the past nine and a half years about the most narratively milquetoast-centrist-“ignore the capitalist elephant in the room” FO game and it is one that is extremely minor in the realm of worldbuilding issues in said game that I do think in practice came down more to engine limitations, and it’s one that despite those limitations has probably been solved in its own in at least a dozen mods which means I could theoretically deal with this issue on the personal level by just spending the money on the PC version of a decade old game instead of remaining tethered to the PlayStation version
But with that said:
The complete lack of any sort of functioning ground vehicles in Fallout 4 is and has always been such a fucking dumb pain in the ass to me. Like we’re expected to believe that no-one, not a single goddamn individual, in two fucking centuries, thought to recycle a wrecked car into a brahmin-pulled wagon? That no one in Massachusetts in a world where fucking functional scifi robots not only exist but persist to function for 210 years (whether or not said robots are kept in storage for that time or very obviously ones that have been active for that entire time and have clearly had to have had someone work on them) at least once figured out how to jury-rig any of the thousands of wrecked cars or motorcycles to run on anything? That even if you want to come up with some Watsonian excuse that somehow none of the people with the automotive know-how survived the blasts in 2077 wouldn’t have had hundreds of technical manuals lying around that someone could have read and learned from? That literally every professor and grad student and researcher affiliated with ANY of the universities in Boston all collectively agreed to join the Institute instead of at least one person with an engineering degree saying “No fuck that I’m helping people up here?” When we have known implicitly since fucking Fallout 2 and explicitly since New Vegas that over on the West Coast they’ve had functioning motorized vehicles for at least a hundred years by the late 2200s? And on the Doylist front sure whatever I don’t even care about whether or not they could have integrated a personal vehicle system with more time but like, Bethesda couldn’t recycle the fucking wagon from Skyrim either as a static object or as like part of provisioner caravans? They couldn’t integrate a secondary optional stagecoach type fast travel system with bus stop type points for a game releasing a generation and half a decade after Rockstar did it for Red Dead Redemption, even as a version that just went straight into the loading screen like on-foot fast travel? They couldn’t set up any of the randomly generated Brotherhood of Steel scouting encounters to generate a clean fully static jeep-type vehicle when they had ones randomly generate wrecked pre-war military vehicles in locations that you could go through a hundred other times without said vehicle ever being there?
It’s minor but it’s rly rly dumb to me, is what I’m saying

More, more, MOOOOORE!
Some questions recycled from the PCP/PCW ask game from a day or two ago because I only have so much in this brain of mine. Hope that's okay!
PCP first, What headcanons about the entity you worship/work with do you love? What do you hate?
Are there any entities you’re currently interested in?
Does the fandom influence how you perceive or interact with your entity or PCP in any way?
Now PCW, What’s the most effective PCW spell you’ve casted?
What’s a spell that didn’t work out very good?
And then from general, What drew you to PCP/PCW in the first place?
A wonderful blend of two ask games!
Ask Game: Pop Culture Paganism/Witchcraft
What headcanons about the entity you worship/work with do you love? What do you hate?
Admittedly, I try not to poke my head into headcanons specifically surrounding Azura, just because I don't want to. There was supposed to be more of that sentence, but now there isn't.
And lowkey, I've seen some very...interesting...adult-oriented fanart of Azura that made me tilt my head in confusion from the proportions alone. And then I look at her Skyrim statue and remember that they're not exaggerating it that much, but still.
Are there any entities you’re currently interested in?
I'm half certain that the Unknown Benefactor is either Karametra or Demeter or Demeter-as-Karametra and I'm trying to figure out if any combination of that is what I'd be interested in.
Reshiram was the first Legendary Pokemon I ever caught in-game (I started with Pokemon Black) and The Arcanist from Flight Rising has been fascinating for me to look into, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to re-expand my personal pantheon.
Honestly, who or what I'm interested in tends to waver depending on my mood.
Does the fandom influence how you perceive or interact with your entity or PCP in any way?
It absolutely would, which is why I try not to poke at the subfandom specifically around the deities I worship. Luckily, I am cursed eternally with being interested in relatively unpopular characters (excluding Lady Azura, of course) for blorbo-fication, so I almost never have to actually deal with that.
What’s the most effective PCW spell you’ve casted?
Duress my beloved.
What’s a spell that didn’t work out very good?
Witchy the Charmander's Luck Spell Jar, I need to revamp it.
What drew you to PCP/PCW in the first place?
I was delighted to find out that it existed so I decided to do it. Who was gonna stop me, the magic cops? I can outrun them.
Thanks for sending these in!

Hi, I was wondering for a while and decided to ask the expert: How do you think Auri-El worship and understanding of him differed between Altmer, Falmer and Ayleids? What little surviving imagery of Falmer's version of him doesn't seem to have any bird imagery unlike the other two races, instead depicting him as a full elf, so I'm wondering what your take on it is.
Excellent question anon! So excellent I spent a few days mulling it over, looking through notes, and even made a few headcanons along the way. The main points are in bold:
The only Falmeric depictions of Auri-El in the canon are in Skyrim and, to an extent, ESO. The Skyrim depiction is the Elven statue with the vaguely dragonbone-looking robes, whereas the Font of Auri-El has this lovely codex:
Tumblr media
[I/D: A yellowed piece of paper headlined with "Ugron gro-Thumog", an Antiquarian in Solitude, reads: "Auri-El, by the looks of it. Seems a little abstract, honestly. Elves make a point of including Elven likenesses in their shrines to reinforce their familiar connections to the Divines. This probably rested near a statue of the Chief Divine himself."]
The font in ESO is a giant wayshrine-like structure with the symbol of Auri-El, a sun with eight curved flares, glowing gently in the center. This symbol is also seen in Skyrim, atop the wayshrines along the Chantry.
Notably, there are no statues of Auri-El, Elvish or otherwise, near these wayshrines in the Chantry. Which is the place made specifically for Auri-El worship. It's entirely possible that the sun was the default, with animal aspects taking on a more specific or diplomatic connotation; I can see the Falmer using the Eagle or even the Dragon to explain their faith to Atmorans.
My headcanon is that Elvish depictions of the Divines were based on the current Prince of that Divine. The Elf you see in the Chantry is, in my interpretation, a depiction of the Snow Prince who reigned when the Chantry was being built. Given that he's bald, it's possible that he was newly anointed as Prince.
Building on the previous bullet point, one of my longest held headcanons about the Falmer is that they were the most spiritual of the Elvish races, which is reflected in their iconography. Instead of conflating their visage with actual gods, they opted for abstractions and symbols as the gods simply do not take a mortal form. A mortal form is made from material, and that means material wants and material burdens; they shed all that! That's how they ascended in the first place!
Some exceptions exist. The Demigod Mara sacrificed her divinity to remain on Nirn, and so she was often depicted as either a mortal or a wolf.
This... differs quite a bit from the Altermic and Ayeild depictions of Auri-El, with the Altmer leaning heavily towards "Elven DILF" and the Ayleids using both Elven and animal aspects, sometimes at the same time.
The Ayeildoon statue of Auri-El is at Garlas Malatar, which is notably where Meridian champion Umaril the Unfeathered made his lair. I may or may not have extensive headcanons on the implications.
The Auri-El statue in the Forgotten Vale and the one in Alinor's Temple of the Divines look eerily alike. I am chalking this up to asset recycling.

I'm too chicken to come off anon but fucking THANK YOU for pointing out the hypocrasy! Like bffr we are running monster programs like reshade and blender and the game itself is now dx11. If we want to talk resource usage and overconsumption, please don't leave sims players out of the convo. are we any better?
reduce reuse and recycle like period.
I remember I used to watch someone on Twitch who would constantly short the electricity in their house to play 8k Skyrim on their 4090 ( that they’ve had to replace TWICE apparently ), and I just… like why is that necessary my guy.
I know his neighbors hate him. 😭😭😭
Oh and I don’t mind, it’s been a while since I talked on this app without giving a damn what others think, so it felt pretty good actually.

Aah it's so good seeing you post x] I've been wondering what are some of your favorite video games?or some you would recommend? I think I kinda need to expand my horizons.. I can only play so many elden ring runs lol
I feel you, there are only so many posts I can make writing about Mass Effect before it becomes redundant.
As for expanding horizons, you're in the right place! My taste in videogames is all over the place; I like to keep the algorithm on its toes.
Currently I'm playing
Taisho x Alice
Tumblr media
Visual novel
Otome (dating sim)
Anime stylised
on the really really long side
Refreshing writing for an anime otome game, characters actually use critcal thinking and common sense. It's devoid of infuriating easily-solved-misunderstanding tropes and the characters aren't idiots.
And
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Tumblr media
Open world realism game
Red dead redemption level of survival and player interactivity but in medieval times
You're a knight
Your character starts illiterate and can't read and you need to teach him to read, and actually pass some reading tests, as in you the player need to read and pass them
Hard combat that relies heavily on player skill instead of stats/equipment
Actually intricate world with npcs that have their own schedule, life, and attitude towards you. You can stalk people like in skyrim and see them sleep, eat, shit, socialise, buy groceries, work, then go to sleep
Grey morality allowed and encouraged, never locks you out of main quest
Main lore is actually fun, no one ever monologues at you
You can be gay in the second game, while in the first you can only hint at it + have heavy gay subtext with the lord you're guarding
I'm saving up to buy the second game, damn you 80$ gaming industry.
-
As for my favourite ever games!
Hardspace shipbreaker
Tumblr media
Like one of those cleaning simulators where your task is just to clean, except you break apart abandoned ships in this one
Actually helped me learn and understand the mechanics and compartments of science fiction space ships. I look at the Normandy and can perfectly picture taking it apart, the core, the engine, the thrusters, the controle pannel.
Requires your full attention but can be done on autopilot, it's one of those games you go to when you want to disconnect from life for about an hour or two and don't feel like doing fetch quests in triple A games
Has a plot about the exploitation of workers under capitalism (space capitalism) and the befits of a union. You can affect the plot only in the "final" mission, otherwise you're an observer. But the game still goes on after the plot is finished, same as before, except you actually have healthcare now.
It gives you a goal of repaying your massive cripple debt at the start of the game, every ship you take apart and carefully recycle its material earns you money. But also the costs of living in space + interest chips at your saving so you never feel quiet safe
Has tool upgrades!
Death and revive has an ingame explanation and consequences that make you desperately want to avoid it. Basically since it's sci-fi we can create copies of people now, each time you die, the company you signed away your DNA structure to has the right to create another copy of you
But it's very VERY expensive for a copy to be made, and it gets added to your debt
If you're someone ever into ships, mechanics, and floating in space, you'll love it.
Also, this is the most relevant game to Mass Effect and this blog. If you liked the world setting of mass effect and want to experience being an npc in it, this game really scratches that itch. You get ships from exploration missions and get to see the aftermath of battles on them + some even have sentient evil AI.
-
Tiny Terry's Turbo Trip
Tumblr media
You're a kid who's parents left and went on vacation
You're supposed to go to school but you don't care and decide to steal a car and go to space instead!
That's the entire premise of the game
Cartoony, think of Loony Toons shenanigans. Npcs are hilarious + you're an unsupervised kid and everyone is concerned.
You collect hats!
It's very light hearted and fun, has a heartfelt touching ending and a piece about parental neglect
I played it during a low period, for a week it was the only reason I smiled.
-
Pathologic
Tumblr media
If you're a masochist and you know it clap your hands!
Clap Clap
Do you like reading? Do you like ominous clairvoyance? Do you like worms? Do you like evading the plague and curing the town? Do you like trading children used syringes and razor blades for vials of morphine?
Then this is the game for you!
Pain pain pain and more pain the game hates you and makes you walk extremely slowly everywhere. Survival is very very hard.
But it's the closest thing a video game ever came to a piece of art.
-
Bugsnax
Tumblr media
You're a journalist sent on an island to make an article about the animals there! Apparently the bugs there look and taste like food? A pizza moth butterfly, an ice cream caterpillar, a strawberry mouse
And you meet a bunch of people who were the first expedition of pioneers sent there to establish a town
Except... the leader disappeared and everything fell into chaos, the people seperated and now you must reuinte the villagers and catch bugs while you're at it
Very cartoony and colourful graphics
The main gameplay loop is catching these bugsnax because they get tricky and sneaky the more and more areas you unlock
You have traps and tools to catch them. For some you lay bait, for others you need a trap, sometimes a mix of the two. Endless creativity is allowed, as long as you get the job down, the game gets you free rein on how to approach capturing these creatures
Has a shitton of well written queer characters
"imma lift your crib dawg!" one line said by a hunk bf to his nerdy bf
Puns a lot of puns
No cheap analog horror of bloody gore hidden behind the cuteness facade. It has some "scary" moments but they're done tastefully as part of the ingame lore and with the same cartoony graphics
You do actually get some journalism done + do interviews around the town to write your article
Helheim Hassle
Tumblr media
DO YOU LIKE PUZZLES???
DO YOU LIKE NORSE MYTHOLOGY
DO YOU WANT TO PISS OF ODIN AND PLAY AS A ZOMBIE VIKING BOY WHO CAN DISCONNECT HIS BODY PARTS TO SOLVE SAID PUZZLES
do you hate bears?
Do you like funny sarcastic and self awate writing?
This game is for you!
You might recognise the creators, they're the ones who made Manual Samuel, that game that trended for a while in the 2010s between youtubers bc it made you blink manually, breathe manually, and walk manually.
Except this is not the same premise or playstyle of the game, here you really just solve puzzles. Some complicated, some easy, mostly fun
But set in the same universe and same sense of humour
Check out "The Holy Gosh Darn" if you end up liking it
-
Now I'm tired of writing synopsis after synopsis, but here are more recs! I'm just shooting games after another in quick succession.
I don't care the least about the graphic and art quality of a game; it could be made with sock puppets and I'd still take it seriously and evulate it based on the actual story/gameplay instead. I know it could put off some people, so yeah. It's also why I have cartoony family friendly games and gooner looking games in my fav list, I actually give them a chance and look beyond the surface, If the story and gameplay hits then it hits idk what to tell you dude.
Crimson Spires (visual novel + murder mystery + vampires + you're a cop)
Demonheart (Visual novel + dating sim + legit the most difficult ending choice I ever had to make in a game. It genuinely baffled me how the dev even thought of it. When I was faced with that choice, I just closed the game. And consulted my parents + friends the following days trying to make up my mind which choice to make, besides that the game itself is pretty average)
Vampire Therapist (cheaper than an irl therapy appointment + devs consulted actual therapist in its making + teaches you about cognitive distortion using vampire terms so it's not intimidating)
Toree (2, 3d, panic pack, fun retro racing game)
Quiver Dick's Terrible Tales For Terrible Parents To Read To Their Equally Terrible Children (RPG maker, juvenile Humour)
Echos of the Fey (Visual novel, murder mystery, elves! my fav depiction of elves and human vs elves war ever)
Jester/King ( Visual novel, time loop breaking mystery)
The Cave (PUZZLES!!! crude humour, requires multiple playthroughs. Creativity encouraged.)
The Forgotten City (Puzzles + break timeloop + ancient Greece misogyny. I picked a woman character and wasn't allowed to vote in the electons bc of it :( mind you the electons were a very important game plot point)
The Blood Mage (a love letter to old-school RPG games)
PikuNiku (Okay tbh I know nothing about this game + never played it. But it is the single game my now 6y niece plays in my 700+ games steam library. She is obsessed, it has been going on steady for 3 years, so that has got to amount to something)
Webbed (puzzles, spider powers! you're a spider and you adventure through the bug kingdom and help the ants and the bees using your webs so that you can save your spider boyfriend who was kidnapped by a crow)
I deliberately avoided mentioning the well-known games That Everyone plays and Everyone likes (Hades, Cyberpunk, Andromeda, Stray, etc etc) because it's redundant, you can find the same renowned 100 games listed in different orders in every single recommendations thread.
No, I'm giving you my secret stash of hidden gems, some of them I actually found digging through the trash of wholesale steam keys on shady websites, others I found by pure chance. I wasn't recommended a single game on this list by anyone ever, and trust me, I have looked; I'm nosy and lurk in a lot of gaming places.
so here I am recommending them to you!
All of these games are also ones I played from start to finish, which is quite a feat for me. I have the attention span of a humming bird, I'm quick to ditch a game at the slightest offence, the tons of half finished games in my library attest to that.
It's not just enough that playing a game is fun, but I need an incentive to come back. So many times I had fun playing a game but completely forgot about it the second I went to sleep.
Those are the annoying buzzing flies of games that latched onto my brain and consumed my thoughts at every waking hour. The ones that I'd cut my lunch short just to go play a little more, the ones I called off hang outs for, the ones I sacrificed sleep for and immediately booted up first thing in the morning because I really REALLY wanted to know what happens next + do more of this thing.

Have you given much thought to the phylogeny of the guars specifically? I've found the biogeography of the guars mentioned in eso quite interesting, such as the frostbane pony guar (which I have mixed feelings on) being native to Skyrim
I haven't gotten into the nitty gritty of the guars (and related animals) yet, in part because I'm still trying to decide where in the greater animal phylogeny they should fit in, but from my cursory look over of them, it seems most of the variations eso are domesticated or artificially bred (which makes sense since almost all of them are introduced as mounts or pets). I do wish they had more wild subspecies, but I think that if you're going to have a bunch of variations, explaining them by people breeding them for different looks/purposes is the best choice. I certainly like the eso guars more than the other eso mounts (although some are still sorta dumb to me tbh). I'm not sure I'm going to include all the variations in my own phylogeny, but might rather just leave them all implied under "guar" since I don't want to pick and chose which ones I include.
I feel a little "meh" about having them be present in the wild outside of Morrowind though (with the exception of parts of Black Marsh maybe, just because of natural migration). I personally like the idea of Morrowind/Vvardenfell having such interesting fauna because of it's unique ecosystem and isolation. Being introduced to other ecosystems that they might be able to survive in by people could work, but stuff like the Frostbane Guars (or the Atmoran Bantam Guar) definitely pushes it for me to be honest. The idea of magic (or something similar) being used to protect animals not adapted to the cold from the cold is interesting, but I think I'd rather seen that done with a new type of animal rather than recycling Morrowind's cool fauna over and over again.

Benjin Musei

recycling my 2018 skyrim vampire OC, Benjin Musei (she/her) for @birdietrait's coven of simblr
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notes
She's proficient in magic
She has a cat named Amera
She has 2 ravens, named Ari and Lilith
She's very quiet and can sneak up on you easily
She often makes her own clothes.
Originally, she's supposed to look 9 and is actually 200+ years old (2018 me was edgy.) I decided that she would've turned into a vamp when she was maybe 19, still very young.
(I barely take in-game screenshots in sims 4, especially where I pose my sims. The only time I take screenshots is when something funny happens and I win+shift+s then send the screenshot over to my friends on discord lol. I don't know how to take decent screenshots and I kinda want to but I know if I download some reshade my laptop would explode.)

Trying out the plastic wrap + tape method for patterning a corset! I finally committed to a character to cosplay, Serana from Skyrim:

I found pretty good second-hand fabrics for it! Mum let me destroy an old sofa cover blanket from the summer cottage and the red fabric I bought from the recycling centre. It's the perfect colour match even if my camera fails to capture it!

you know, it’s like Bethesda and FromSoft both found a working formula and more or less recycled it but judging from things I’ve seen about it’s literally skyrim/fallout 4 in SPESS. Does Bethesda refuse to improve and innovate because why fix something that’s technically not broken? It’s clear consumers will still buy it and game jurnos are gonna give it high ratings no matter what, even with all sorts of bugs and glitches
