More Macaques!! I’m slowly (very slowly) making mine own design for him. So far, I’ve decided that he should be more purple :)
Edited to remove a small, barely noticeable white dot that I unfortunately noticed.

Ok so Sleep deprived thoughts here
Everyone’s talking about Macaque’s and Wukong’s divorce and while I 100% agree they are married,
my question is who finalized it
Like they were probably together for centuries? What’s the word for thousands I forgot
Who was the poor person?

Okay, okay hear me out.
Let's say our darling Peaches is out on a stroll somewhere and gets kidnapped by some lesser demons (Kidnapped how? Who knows maybe she walked a little too far from the mountain) who wish to present her as a gift to the rulers of the region as idk a peace offering? Maybe for protection? Yet somehow not realizing that she the wife of said rulers?
And Peaches is like both really confused and amused by this. Confused because she's pretty sure most at least know that she's the mate of The Monkey King and his Warrior and amused because these demons really don't know what they're actually doing?
--------------
Peaches stared at the demon in front of her in confusion, stopping in her struggle with the rope that was tying her hands together while her brows furrowing as she took in their words. "Wait- hold on. You said you were gifting me to the rulers of this Mountain? The same one that you kidnapped me on?" She inquired, trying to understand their logic.
The demons nodded, Moving the cart she was in along the long dirt road. "Yup, To the Great Sage himself and His brother." They replied, not looking at their hostage.
Peaches could only stare in astonishment. She was completely speechless by these demons boldness to kidnap the wife of the people they were gifting her too. A part of her felt amusement at this clearly not at all thought out plan but another part of her feels pity....
She coule only imagine what her husbands would do when they hear of this.....
-----------
Apologizes for any grammar mistakes or if this didn't make any sense at all. I am currently sleep deprived so yeah, sorry for any mistakes.
hooh man. (your ask was well written. sorry it took me so long to get to it)
man, the warlords could have a variety of reactions to this.
easy and most likely answer: the boys are angry. like, unbelievably so. those stupid, ignorant idiot demons are getting dismembered right there in the reception throne room, no time for them to defend themselves. macaque cuts away reader's binds as wukong furiously beats the offending demons bodies into bloody pulp. reader tries not to look or listen as macaque leads her away and gently interrogates her about her capture.
the boys are feeling like playing along that day. they "thank" the stupid demons for bringing them such a lovely "tribute." perhaps they play up "getting a closer look at this human... hmm, brother, doesn't this human seem familiar? y'know, she really does! now where have i seen her before, hmm...oh right! she's our wife." cut to the mook demons stammering out apologies and kowtowing, begging for forgiveness because they had NO idea that this human was the wife of the mountain rulers, honest! the monkey king watches the groveling while macaque frees reader, rubbing her wrists. there's a 50/50 chance the idiot demons survive this time.
reader is feeling merciful, and thus asks her husbands to spare these very dumb demons. clearly they didn't know better, if their harebrained scheme was anything to go by. the warlords, seeing that she's relatively unharmed and clearly not that traumatized by the experience, agree to let them live. but! the idiot demons have to do hard labor as penance. you don't kidnap a queen and get off scot-free, after all.

If I may request a delirious sleep deprived Macaque trying to escape the horde of his new companions trying to get him to sleep?
It’s almost more for their sake than his due to the chaos he’s caused accidentally thus far
Macaque was not sleep-deprived.
He was not.
Sure, he hadn't been sleeping lately. But that was because Wukong snored and he had forgotten about that charming fact until he made the mistake of offering his place to the king. Wukong had let him move into his cottage...until it was, you know, destroyed. So he hadn't been sleeping much. It wasn't that bad!
At least not this bad!
"I want you to know, this is for your own good," Wukong said, tightening the silk bonds on him. Macaque wanted to snark, maybe say something dirty, but Wukong looked so concerned. "You haven't slept in over a month and it shows."
"It does not!"
Long Xiaojiao looked up from her phone, revealing her black eye. That had been an accident, Macaque was pretty sure. "You sank Sandy's houseboat because you sneezed and summoned your giant shadow..." She gestured around, nearly hitting Sandy in the face. "Thing!"
"Which I'm not mad about," Sandy said. He set down a cup of water. "Here, I also brought you a glass of warm milk."
Macaque groaned, looking up at them. "I'm fine, guys. I just need-"
"To clean!" Xiaotian poked his head in, revealing he was already wearing his cleaning bandana. "Don't worry! We got that covered! You can sleep, and when you wake up, your apartment will be sparkling!"
"But-"
"And if you're worried about groceries, I'm working on it," Xiaojiao said, revealing her phone was pulled to a grocery-ordering app. "I'm even getting you mangoes!"
Oh, mangoes were a delight- Wait.
"But-"
"And if you're worried about finishing your costumes and the paint on those masks, I got it," Wukong said, pulling up the sheets and tucking him in. Macaque raised his brow. "Come on. I've helped you with your costumes hundreds of times." He pursed his lips, seeming to consider. "We've got you, Macaque. Sleep well."
Macaque felt his eyes drift close as warm lips pressed against his forehead.

Strawberry Soda- Chapter 2 - Strawberry Candy
Word Count: 3.7k
Read on Ao3
It was a while, before Macaque returned to Flower Fruit Mountain.
After what Macaque had decided to label in his head as the ‘Hot Springs Incident’, he had chosen to stay within his dojo, ignoring the temptation to return to the volcanic island. He couldn’t be spending all his time there, obviously, especially what with Wukong now knowing that he was present. Even despite how mildly concerning Wukong’s behavior had been, Macaque was very proud of his self-restraint to not investigate further.
…Three days after the ‘Hot Springs Incident’, Macaque returned to Flower Fruit Mountain, mentally berating himself for every step he took. He couldn’t help it, okay? He hated to admit it, but he was worried about Wukong, that kind of spacey behavior, the calling him Liu Er, it just, it wasn’t normal. He had to figure out what was going on. He was literally losing sleep over it.
(Tossing and turning, feeling the phantom sensations of Wukong’s fingers in his hair, seeing the foggy look in his eyes, Wukong standing eerily still, like he was still being controlled by her-)
Yeah. He needed to get to the bottom of this, the sooner the better, if he wanted to have any sleep this week.
Which is the thought process that led to him, in the middle of the night, silently slipping through Wukong’s kitchen window. Using the slightest amount of shadow-intangibility to enter the building without a sound, he slid onto the kitchen counter, landing in a crouch.
His plan, was to simply sneak into Wukong’s room, and use a spell or two to check him for any known curses or spells- maybe even secretly check on his magic strings while he was at it. Macaque was practically an expert at weaving magic, and at magic strings in general, so he was confident that he could accomplish such a thing without waking Wukong up.
That plan, of course, was obliterated the instant his tail happened to hit a jar, knocking it over and sending it tumbling off the counter.
“Shit!” Macaque scrambled, lurching forwards, wrapping his hands around the jar, keeping it from impacting the floor. He let out a relieved sigh… only to over-balance, his feet slipping out from under him as he fell off the counter. Biting back a yelp, he just barely managed to summon a shadow portal in time, falling into it. After a brief moment of cold darkness, he re-oriented himself, emerging from the portal standing.
He stood shock-still, for a moment, ears twitching, carefully listening to see if Wukong had been woken up by the minor commotion. After a minute passed by with no sign of a yelling monkey, he relaxed, untensing, his tail swishing with curiosity as he glanced down at the jar in his hands, prior mission all but forgotten as his sleep-deprived brain focused on something new.
There were candies inside the jar.
Opening the lid, tentatively giving the inside a lil sniff, he corrected himself;
There were strawberry candies inside the jar.
Really good smelling ones.
Macaque, almost absentmindedly, moved to take one, only to hesitate.
Surely… surely Wukong wouldn’t notice him take something so small, right? There were a lot of candies in the jar, after all…
Taking a few candies wouldn’t hurt.
…Probably.
-
The hazy moments were getting better.
That, at least, was something that Wukong considered a good thing. Ever since his mental battle against the Lady Bone Demon, some part of him had been completely exhausted- leading him to have moments where he’d just… blank out.
It had scared him, the first few times, suddenly being in a different room, with only hazy memories of how he had gotten there. Talking with the kid seemed to help keep him more present, but…
He didn’t really want MK to happen to catch him in any of those moments, so he had, kinda, sorta-maybe, isolated himself a bit.
…But even so, the hazy moments were starting to be fewer and farther in between, so, hopefully, with a few more weeks, he wouldn’t need to worry about it at all.
All this is to say, someone has definitely been stealing Wukong’s candies.
Wukong had, initially, assumed that within his brief hazy moments, he was simply eating the candies himself and forgetting about it, hence why the jar seemed to constantly be emptier than he remembered it being.
But… Wukong was fairly sure that he hadn’t had any hazy moments within the past three days (a new record for him, a sure sign that he was getting better), which meant that, of course, he was dealing with a thief.
That figured out, all he had to do was watch and wait to eventually catch whoever it was with their hand in the literal cookie jar.
(Even though said jar was currently holding candies, it did hold cookies at one point, so Wukong considered it entirely fair to still call it a cookie jar, even if it’s current contents were not, in fact, cookies. MK would disagree with this assessment).
(He also felt like… he might be forgetting something important about those candies, specifically, but he was sure that it would likely come back to him later).
Unfortunately, he found himself unable to focus upon it, as MK had, promptly, shown up with the request that they… organize his treasure room a little.
Well… it was kind of a mess. Organizing it would probably be for the better.
As long as they were careful with all the magic objects contained within it, everything should be fine, right?
-
Macaque woke up at 3pm in the afternoon to the sound of his phone ringing. Slowly, he pushed himself into a sitting position, groaning- he was certain he hadn’t dranken anything last night, and yet, he felt almost hungover. Blearily, he reached for the desk by his bed, moving his hand around until he managed to find his still ringing phone.
He tried to pierce together who it was that was calling him, narrowing his eyes, trying to see the bright phone screen through his hazy vision. He gave up as the phone gave another shrill ring, answering it automatically if only to get the noise to stop.
“Macaque!!!” MK’s voice came through before Macaque could even begin to grumble out a hello, and he held the phone slightly away from himself at the volume. Geez, didn’t that kid know how to be even somewhat quiet? “We need your help!”
“...Huh?” The Kid was… asking him for help? What could he possibly-
“We do not need his help, MK!” Wukong’s voice was faint, clearly further away, but still audible through the phone speaker. “I can get out of this on my own!”
“That’s what you said 30 minutes ago! And you’re still stuck!!” MK hissed, and Macaque could just barely make out a frustrated hiss and the sound of clanging before MK spoke again. “Look, Macaque, could you just get over to the mountain as soon as possible? I promise I’ll pay you back for it!”
Well, Macaque couldn’t say he wasn’t curious as to what had prompted this whole situation. Plus, this would give him the perfect excuse to check in on Wukong…
“Sure Kid, I’ll be right there.” Macaque said, then hung up before MK could respond. Slowly, he hauled himself out of bed- stumbling a little, using one hand for balance against the desk, his body, for a moment, feeling strangely weak.
That was… strange.
Suppressing a shiver, Macaque hauled himself up again, letting out a sigh of relief when his body reacted like normal. Well, whatever that was, it had only been temporary.
Rolling his shoulders as he carefully shifted his magic to put on his usual glamours, Macaque was struck by a sudden craving for strawberry candy. He opened his desk drawer, intending on eating one of the candies he’d stolen from Wukong’s house-
It was empty.
…Huh. Seemed that at some point he’d run out.
Well, he was heading back to the mountain anyways, so he could just pick up more while he was there.
Nodding to himself with satisfaction at his own plan, Macaque allowed a shadow portal to form under his feet, dropping him right onto the mountain, in front of Wukong’s lil hut. Just from arriving there, he could hear the sound of MK and Wukong coming from the treasure room. For a moment he paused, debating, glancing in between the hut and the treasure room…
Macaque quickly snuck in through the hut’s open door, ran into the kitchen, opened the jar, grabbed a handful of strawberry candies, popping one of them into his mouth while the rest got shoved into his pocket, and then turned on his heel and headed in the direction of The Treasure-Junk Room.
He froze in the entrance at the sight before him.
There was a glowing object on the floor, some kind of necklace or amulet. That he had kind of expected; from the moment he realized they were in the treasure room, he figured that there must’ve been some kind of magic mishap, hence why MK had chosen to call him, of all people. So no, the glowing necklace (possibly amulet) did not surprise him.
What gave him pause, however, was the situation that Sun Wukong had managed to get himself tangled up in.
Literally.
Not only were Wukong’s magic strings currently plainly visible to the naked eye, they were an absolute mess, wrapped around the king to the point that his feet were actually off the ground, the strings holding him up, albeit there was no obvious point as to where the strings were coming from.
Wukong noticed him first, expression souring immediately with a small growl as he shifted, clearly trying to free himself to no avail.
Well. At least Wukong wasn’t spacing out to the point of acting weird right now. Macaque didn’t think he’d be able to deal with that again.
MK followed his mentor’s gaze to find Macaque, and as soon as the kid layed eyes on him, Macaque allowed his expression to twist into a smirk.
“Alright, I’ll bite.” He said, “How did this happen?”
“None of your business!” Wukong hissed, at the same time MK casually said;
“He tripped.”
“Tripped! Heh!” Macaque laughed, walking forwards, circling around Wukong, carefully avoiding touching any of the strings. Wukong, surprisingly, didn’t protest much to this- although from the way his shoulders had slightly slumped, Macaque suspected it was mostly because he had accepted that he had next to no other choice. Making his way back around to stand in front of the Monkey King, Macaque crossed his arms. “Well, Wukong, this is a fine little situation you’ve found yourself wrapped up in.”
“Oh shut it you theatre geek.” Wukong mumbled, and Macaque’s ear twitched.
Letting out an overly innocent hum, Macaque reached up and plucked a random string.
As expected, the magic resonation had an immediate effect, Wukong tensing, and Macaque was suddenly very glad once again for his own glamours as some of Wukong’s shattered, his hair growing longer in a single bright pop! For a moment his hair almost seemed to float in place, almost as though suspended by anti-gravity, rays of sunlight flowing through it, almost making it seem like it was woven gold- before falling, gently caressing the Monkey King’s shoulders as it settled down in waves of auburn.
Macaque did his best to pretend that he hadn’t been staring, eyes shifting to look off to the side as Wukong settled a burning red glare upon him.
“Whoops! Wrong string~!” Macaque sing-songed, “It’s just so hard to tell sometimes, y’know?”
Wukong opened his mouth to respond, but before he could-
“Not that I don’t enjoy seeing the two of you get along-” MK interrupted, causing both monkeys to jump, having forgotten that he was there. “-But could we hurry this up? I have a shift in about 15 minutes, and I want to be sure that Monkey King is okay before then.”
“I’m fine, kid.” Wukong said, and Macaque rolled his eyes as he kneeled down to examine the object that seemed to have caused this whole mess. His eyes flickered to a brighter purple for a second, before dimming down.
Letting out a tired sigh, Macaque reached forwards and lightly tapped the necklace with his finger. Almost immediately, the glow vanished, along with the strings holding Wukong up-
Macaque realized what was about to happen a second too late, failing to move in time to prevent Wukong from falling down on top of him.
“Oh- shit, are you okay?” Wukong wasted no time in pushing himself up, making sure he wasn’t crushing the other as his eyes swirled pink, a golden blush alighting on his face as he looked down at Macaque- only to pause. “...Are those my candies?”
Macaque glanced to the side and, sure enough, the strawberry candies that he had hidden in his pocket had been knocked out by the impact and now layed scattered across the floor. He let out a small exhale, a couple snowflakes falling from his mouth.
“...No.” He said, slowly, then nearly choked on his own snowflake-laden breath as Wukong grabbed a fistful of his scarf, pulling him up closer to him as his eyes shifted back to red.
“So you’re the candy thief-”
Wukong was cut off by a loud clang, Macaque wincing, his ears ringing, as they both glanced over to see MK, halfway back to the entrance of the room, frozen midstep as a metal pole rolled away from him on the floor.
“Ah- sorry!” MK said, turning around and nervously walking backwards towards the entrance. “I wasn’t joking earlier when I said I needed to leave soon, I just didn’t want to interrupt your little… thing you guys have got going on. Uh. Um. Anyways, Pigsy needs me back at the restaurant, soooo-”
And with that, MK took another step back, and, in the blink of an eye, vanished. The world was silent for a moment as Macaque and Wukong glanced back at each other.
Simultaneously, the exact position they were currently in hit the both of them like a freight train.
They both recoiled; Wukong’s eyes swapping back to pink in an instant as he covered his now brightly blushing face with his hands, and Macaque was certain that his own ears were glowing brightly enough to likely be seen through his glamours- but still, he recognized the chance that he now had and took it, reaching out to the side and scooping up as many of the fallen candies as he could, shoving them back into his pocket, and using Wukong’s moment of distraction to shove him back, creating a shadow portal underneath of himself.
Falling down into the darkness, he just missed the expression of realization on Wukong’s face.
-
Shit.
Wukong, face still burning, immediately pushed himself off the floor into a standing position, only staring at the spot Macaque had just been in for a brief second before rushing out of the treasure room.
Of course it’s only after Macaque has just escaped with the stolen candies that Wukong remembers exactly what he’d been forgetting about them.
Those were magic candies. He’d been gifted them by a magic-eater a few centuries ago, after he’d helped them find a stable energy source to feed off of. The magic-filled candies had next to no effect on Wukong himself, other than maybe a tiny power boost, but for someone who used magic energy as a life source…
Continuously cursing under his breath, Wukong summoned his cloud-sail under his feet. He couldn’t believe he was finally going to leave the mountain again for the first time since the Lady Bone Demon’s attack just because of him.
Activating his golden vision, he narrowed his eyes, glancing around, looking for any hint of Macaque’s shadows.
There!
Wukong practically leapt off his cloud to tackle Macaque to the floor at top speed, Macaque letting out a startled yelp as he went down.
“How many of those candies did you eat?” Wukong hissed out immediately. Macaque blinked up at him with a shocked expression, the faintest glow coming from around his ears.
“Wukong- wha-”
“How. Many. Candies. Did. You. Eat.” Wukong repeated, emphasizing every word, going as far as to grab hold of Macaque’s shoulders and shake him. A few snowflakes fell out of Macaque’s mouth as he did so, and Wukong did his best to ignore them- in truth, he had genuinely thought he had hallucinated that tidbit during that… Shampoo Incident, and currently all those snowflakes did was remind him of that entire night, which was distinctly not helpful right now.
“Seriously?” Macaque wheezed out, “Are you genuinely getting this upset over just some candy-”
“They’re not just ‘some candy’, Macaque!” In his panic, Wukong’s claws sunk into Macaque’s shoulders. Upon seeing Macaque’s wince of pain, he immediately let go, accidentally letting Macaque fall backwards onto the floor, lightly hitting his head. He stared down at the other for a brief moment of silence as Macaque let out a small pained hiss, but quickly forced himself to refocus. “They’re magic candies, Macaque. Candy made from pure magic. Which is totally fine for someone like me, but you- you’ll just end up overloading your magic core, and then it’ll be too weak to produce any magic, and-”
“Alright alright, I get it!” More snowflakes than before fell out of Macaque’s mouth, fluttering in the air before falling to the ground and melting. “And I… don’t remember how many candies I’ve had. 17, maybe? Can you get off of me now?”
“17?!?” Wukong hurriedly got off of Macaque- albeit, it was less so to free the other and more so that he’d be able to start pacing, panickedly running his hands through his hair. “You- fuck, I need to take you to like, a doctor- I don’t know any doctors-”
“Would you calm down?” Macaque groaned, pushing himself off of the ground and into a sitting position. “I’m fine, you don’t need to get your head in a twist.”
“17 candies, Macaque-”
“I’m probably low-balling the number honestly, it was probably more than that.”
“Liu’er.”
Macaque froze, fur bristling as he made eye contact with Wukong, and a shiver went down Wukong’s spine at the sudden look of almost fear in the other’s eyes. For a moment they just stared at each other, both of their tails swishing uneasily.
And then Macaque turned to the side and coughed, snowflakes falling out of his mouth- his body flickering, and Wukong made his decision right then and there.
“Right.” He said, wasting no time in leaning down and scooping Macaque up into his arms, despite Macaque’s protests. “I’m taking you to Sandy.”
“You’re wha- Wukong!” Macaque started trying to smack at Wukong, swinging his legs wildly like that would make the Monkey King let go. “C’mon, don’t do this again!”
Wukong, in response, simply tightened his grip.
5 minutes of kicking and squirming and complaining later, Wukong used his foot to slam the door of Sandy’s house boat wide open.
“Sandy!!” He called out, carefully walking around the cats that tried to rub up against his legs. “I need your help!”
Within a blink, Sandy was standing in front of him, looking concerned.
“What can I do for you, Mr. King?”
Wukong didn’t immediately answer, instead holding out a stunned Macaque and easily passing him over into Sandy’s awaiting arms.
“Magic core overload.” Was all he could manage to say, and, thankfully, seemed to be all Sandy needed to hear, as the next thing Wukong knew, he was sitting in a chair, watching Macaque reluctantly take a sip from a cup of tea.
Macaque made a face after the first sip, and Sandy let out a laugh.
“Sorry if it tastes bad! It is medicine after all.” He said, patting Macaque on the head. Macaque’s fur bristled, but he shockingly didn’t outright protest the action. “This medicine should set your natural magic levels back to the right place- but I’m afraid I don’t have anything that can help with the whole snowflake thing. Your magic will just have to absorb the foreign magic on it’s own.”
“Yeah yeah, I know.” Macaque mumbled, then tensed, seemingly bracing himself, before downing the cup of tea in one go. The taste of it must’ve been awful, cause he pulled away from the cup coughing and wheezing, and Wukong only barely resisted the urge to laugh. Sandy offered a different cup, this one full of water, to Macaque, who took it gratefully.
“You should be more careful, Macaque.” Wukong said, leaning forwards slightly in his chair. “Drinking too fast isn’t good for you, y’know.”
Macaque shot him a glare and, seemingly just to be stubborn, downed the glass of water in one go as well.
-
The first thing Wukong did after getting back to Flower Fruit Mountain (after double checking with Sandy that Macaque was going to be okay, and took the candies Macaque had stolen away from him, of course), was slam a seal on top of the candy jar so that nobody but himself could open it.
The second thing he did, was take said jar out into the little garden he kept behind his house, and bury it.
That done, he went back inside and collapsed onto the couch, fully intending to stay there for at least 3 days. The sheer panic he’d gone through earlier had completely drained him of any extra energy.
Or at least, that was the case until his phone rang, with a call from Mei.
-
Macaque flopped face first onto his bed, not even bothering to change out of his clothes. Today had been awful. He was, decidedly, never going to go back to Flower Fruit Mountain ever again. Never ever. Not even if the kid or Wukong begged him to.
He had just been on the verge of falling asleep when the ping of a text message from his phone woke him up.
MK; remember how i said i’d pay u back?
Macaque hesitated for a moment. MK, seemingly, took the lack of response as an indication to continue, as another text message popped up shortly afterwards.
MK; come to the noodle shop tomorrow
MK; i’ve got something for u.
…Well. If he was being honest, that sounded a little ominous. But, at the same time, Macaque couldn’t say he wasn’t curious.
Too tired to come up with a proper written response, Macaque simply sent a thumbs up emoji back, before setting his phone down and rolling over to bury his face into the pillows.
He hoped he wouldn’t regret this.

This is some more dumb Reincarnated Macaque stuff. This is mostly sketched out, and I mostly just wanted to test ideas.
Tumblr media
Minzhe (prefers the name Mac. Also, I love the hooked nose look for Macaque. Idk why, I’m just obsessed-)
So.. Mac fears Wukong to a great degree- Wukong always came off as aggressive towards Mac due to Wukong’s suspicions of Minzhe being Macaque disguised as a mortal. However, Wukong’s golden gaze fails him. Nothing was incriminating…
Wukong had a huge chase down with Mac when Mac panicked and tried to escape while Wukong was eyeing him down like he wants to kill him. That was when he started using his shadow abilities managed to shadow teleport away, unintentionally of course.
Mac begins to discover the tales of the fallen Six Eared Macaque, and how he is a reincarnation of him hundreds of years after his death. As memories begin to flood in, so does his powers. Which he uses in the worst ways possible. A voice would echo in his mind, as if someone was trying to speak to him.
Despite being well into his 20’s (26), he is very uncoordinated and would typically trip or fall. Misusing his abilities to the point where he can’t really fight with them. He can make shadow clones which they themselves even make fun of him.
I just got off work, and all my sleep deprivation just clashed into me, so I apologize for the sloppy work.. ^^’
Have a quacktastic day, Maquacks!💜

Silly Monkeys and Their Love for You
characters: Sun Wukong, Macaque
word count: 633
genre: fluff, a bit of angst if you squint, a bit more angst in Macaque's
content warning: gender is not mentioned for the reader. a bit OOC perhaps? a small blood mention, macaque has commitment and abandonment issues, that's about it.
a/n: just something I wrote while sleep-deprived because I love both these monkeys, also can you tell I have a slight preference? oops
⋆⁺₊⋆ ☀︎ ⋆⁺₊⋆⋆⁺₊⋆ ☀︎ ⋆⁺₊⋆⋆⁺₊⋆ ☀︎ ⋆⁺₊⋆⋆⁺₊⋆ ☀︎ ⋆⁺₊⋆⋆⁺₊⋆ ☀︎ ⋆⁺₊⋆⋆⁺₊⋆ ☀︎ ⋆⁺₊⋆⋆⁺₊⋆
Wukong loves you like how birds love to sing their chirps at dawn. Like it’s second nature, like he feels so moved by your light he needs to sing out his endearment.
His love envelops you in warmth and whispers promises of eternal devotion and admiration. Every day with Sun Wukong is bound to be a joyous one, even the ones that don’t start out the best eventually get infected by his contagious smile and energy.
He absolutely despises seeing you upset, so he does his best to cheer you up with a joke or one of his antics.
And you do end up cracking a smile, no matter how upset you might have been.
How could you not? When the legendary Monkey King is fumbling over himself just to make your sadness dissipate? How can your chest not flutter when he takes your hand in his, as if to ground you (or himself, maybe both, you aren’t quite sure) before he peppers your face and neck with kisses that tickle. You start to giggle and by the Gods, you swear the softness in his eyes could kill you.
It ends with you and him tangled in each other. His legs sandwiched with yours, his arms around your middle with fingers that caress whatever patches of skin they can reach, His head is hidden in the valley between your shoulder and your neck as you run your fingers in his mane, feeling elated from the soft sighs and purrs that escape him. There in your small shared corner of the world, you both bask in the bliss that comes with being near each other.

Macaque, on the other hand, loves you like the tides love the moon. In silent reverence.
It’s a constant push and pull with him. One moment he’s all around you, engulfing you, coming at you at full force, crashing into you. And the next he’s nowhere to be seen. Please don’t take his occasional absence to heart, The shadow demon has had his fair share of troubles, and while he is working hard to grow past them, it cannot be helped that he falls prey to the repercussions.
In truth he is scared, because the last time he trusted someone so much, felt this safe within someone’s arms, he ended up in the dirt. It’s hard to put that mentality to rest, and the genuine care and love he has for you terrifies him to no end. The yearning in his chest overwhelms him and he can’t help but want to flee it. He has to take a step back from indulging in carefree days spent in your arms to remind himself that if he dwells too much in the feeling he’d eventually be consumed by it and there’d be no escape then.
It goes on like this for a while, and to his surprise, you don’t get mad or question his behavior, you seem to understand that he needs space and it puzzles him. You should be gone by now, why do you stick around? Surely you don't care this much, do you? You with your warm embrace and your concern for him when he shows up slightly more bloody than when he left. You with your soft-spoken praises and calming presence.
At the end of the day, he can’t deny the way he has to stop the rumble from escaping his throat at the mere sight of you.
When he brings the question of “why you hang around a guy like him, anyway?” to you one night as his head rests on your lap, you chuckle lightly before reaching down to pet his head with a gentleness that makes him want to weep. You tell him that you wait for him to come home (home, when was the last time he had one of those?) because you love him and his company, nothing more. You look at him like he was your world and it makes him stop and think for a while. He remains silent, choosing to bury his head in your stomach instead of trying to voice whatever jumbled mess was in his head. The action is more than enough for you to understand as it makes you huff out a laugh that reverberates in his chest.
At that moment he thinks, that if he is to be swallowed whole by the ocean of feelings that was brought upon him, he’s glad it is your waves he drowns in,
and for the first time in forever, the water is calm.

GUYS— MY BRAIN CAGE GAVE ME ANOTHER BRAIN THEORY THOUGHT
I swear this is the last post before I sleep—
Okay, so this is just a random theory I had that’s most likely false but for some reason I thought of.
Okay, so people know the theory of MK being connected to one of the other two Celestial Monkeys, the Long Armed Gibbon and the Red-Buttocked Baboon (Macaque and Wukong being the other pair).
BUT I’M THROWING IN A FACTOR TO THE THEORY
What if (and hear me out) MK isn’t just ONE of the two, but instead BOTH of them, or at least is supposed to be connected to the two? I can explain.
Let’s start with the Long-Armed Gibbon.
Tumblr media
The most notable skill this primate possesses is the ability to seize the sun and moon, AKA celestial bodies that reside in the sky.
In the Chinese dub of the show, MK’s name is “Qi Xiaotian”, which is roughly translated into phrases like “Little Heaven” and “Together Little Sky”. This could definitely be referring to the Gibbon in this case, because Celestials (both planets and beings) and the sky are major factors that play into both the show and the characteristics of the Long-Armed Gibbon.
Moving on to the Red-Buttocked Baboon!
Tumblr media
This primate in question has a bit more solid connection to MK in my opinion, since 1, the Baboon has the knowledge of Yin and Yang as well as human affairs, which in the case of MK who has lived amongst mortals all his life, fits perfectly.
And 2, MK literally wears red pants and a red headband. So, color-wise, it checks out.
How MK could be both of them is something to be debated about. BUT BASICALLY, what if the two primates ended up having to sacrifice themselves in order to help Nuwa create MK, so she could give him their energy? Maybe that’s why we haven’t gotten any news about them in the show, why we haven’t seen them at all.
Because we’ve already seen their present form and have followed him throughout the entire dang show.
Or this could just be stemming from sleep deprivation. Maybe I should go to sleep now—
(ARTWORKS ARE NOT MINE BTW!! THEY BELONG TO OVERLY SARCASTIC PRODUCTIONS ON YOUTUBE!!! GO SUPPORT THEM!!!)

A Different Path AU: Chapter 1
-Author's Note: Sorry if any of this doesn't make sense or if there's any grammatical errors, I am always sleep deprived so most of what I say doesn't make sense, btw I will add tw's for chapters that require them, if I ever forget please let me know!!-
Macaque knew it was a bad idea, he'd tried to subtly let Wukong know his opinions on the matter, they should've been more direct, Wukong never was one for subtlety.
Macaque watched and listened helplessly as Wukong surrendered to the Celestial Realm in exchange for the freedom of Macaque and the rest of brotherhood.
Macaque tried to make a portal to him but his magic energy was exhausted, so he ran, he ran as fast and as far as his legs could take him.
"Wukong!!" Macaque yelled, Wukong turned to the direction of the yell of his name.
"I'm sorry Liu Er." Wukong whispered, knowing Macaque would hear him. Macaque ran faster, desperate to reach Wukong in time.
But he wasn't fast enough, next thing he knew Wukong had vanished, as soon as he did Macaque collapsed to the ground in despair. He stayed there in shock for an unknown amount of time, he didn't do anything more until the rough winds of the empty battlefield brought a yellow object into his line of sight, it was Wukong's hat.
That's when he began sobbing, he grabbed onto the abandoned hat and held it tightly in his arms. They felt like they couldn't breath, as more and more tears streamed down his face.
Macaque wasn't able to stand up for several more hours, when he finally did get back up, the sun had already set, reminding him once again of what he'd just lost. He stood up and hat in hand portal-ed back to Flower Fruit Mountain...alone.
---
Macaque was pissed. The brotherhood apparently was so stupid that they thought Wukong had betrayed them!! [Excluding DBK, who was nowhere to be seen.] Wukong had given up his freedom in exchange for theirs and they had the audacity to accuse him of betrayal and refused to hear Macaque out or even think about helping him rescue Wukong.
Macaque was now completely alone. He laid on the ground looking up at the stars, which made him feel more alone since Wukong wasn't there to excitedly gasp every time a shooting star passed by.
Macaque had been laying there for a while when his ears picked up a familiar voice, well voices. It was his own voice and Wukong's voice. But he didn't remember the conversation, Macaque was hit with a realisation of what happened.
On occasion he'd accidentally listened to the future and he had done so just now. If he was talking to Wukong in the future then that meant that-
Macaque made a decision at that moment, a vow really. He was going to leave to find Wukong and he wouldn't come back unless it was with his husband at his side. He even told that to the little monkeys, promising to return their king to them before leaving.
And that was the last time he would see the mountain for 515 years.

When the five new fruit babies arrive, does this mean Smokey's pilgrimage is over?
I mean it's one thing to have Xiao Qi and the two wolf siblings along, but add in five more baby monkeys? Reborn!Pigsy is no doubt putting his hoof down if they are, they are not childcare service.
Well... Smokey/Reborn!SWK was about a couple years into a pilgrimage thats meant to take like 9/17 canon years when he and Liang/Reborn!LEM got the accidental windfall of baby monkeys.
It happens during the "Macaque" chapter where SWK gets kicked out by Xuanzang/Tripitaka for killing the bandits. LEM def defends Smokey's actions - violently once he witnesses Tripitaka using the Headache sutra on SWK. Lets just say a monk almost got folded until Pigsy and Sandy stepped in.
Cue the 3 monkeys + 2 wolf kids leaving on a a sommersault cloud to;
Complain to Guanyin.
Drop the kids off at FFM so they can introduce them to the good, zero-monk life while SWK has a small emotional breakdown.
Check up on that weird tree they planted a while back- WHAT THE?!
The Weird Tree: *looks like a peach tree, but has 5 infant monkey-shaped fruit* SWK & LEM: "UHHH..." Zhu Yu (wolf child 1#): "Those are the ugliest pears I've ever seen." Xiao Qi: *bouncing excitedly for some reason*
At first the adult monkeys think maybe the fruits are ginseng/manfruits that just look kinda weird? Until it requires both of their strength to pull one off a branch, and then the peach-skin-like coating of the "fruit" sloughs off and reveals a squalling newborn baby monkey.
SWK & LEM, both covered in fruit juice: "Oh my-" "-Sweet Guanyin." The Four other "fruits": *start swaying and making cry-chirps* SWK & LEM: "UH OH." Xiao Qi: "Yay!!!" Wolf siblings: *confusedly licking their new sibling clean*
Smokey has to manifest a few baby/fruit baskets so him and Liang can literally catch the other four as they drop naturally. Seems that picking the eldest fruit "woke up" the others.
And when its all done, they have five very grumpy infant monkeys that smell like fruit. And once the youngest dropped, the tree curled in on itself like a wilted flower and seemed to revert to a sterile trunk.
The two monkeys are shaken, covered in not-fruit juice, and theres five babies screaming in their ears + their three extant kids running around excitedly.
SWK, holding four baskets: "...we really should have stayed with Master." LEM, still in shock while holding the eldest of the five: "Maybe we can bribe him with one?'
Guanyin soon manifests to explain that she gave Tripitaka a talking to about abandoning his student. She pauses mid-sentence, looks at the two parent monkeys, blinks, and admits a little sheepishly;
Guanyin: "I blessed your false-ginseng tree to give you children once you had returned from your journey. It seems that the tree misinterpeted your banishment as your return." SWK (almost all limbs occupied with rocking a cub to sleep): "YOU THINK!?" Guanyin: "My blessings multiply depending on the desire of the parents." SWK & LEM: *nervously glances at one another* *Later when all the pilgrims reunite* SWK & LEM: *both look sleep deprived, and are covered in baby monkeys* Pigsy: "WHOA... how long did we leave you two alone for?" LEM: "A whole day." Pigsy: "You worked fast then!" XD SWK: "Pigsy I swear to buddha, I'll throw you into the Mother-Child River if you make another joke."
SWK has a small crisis of choice now. He can't leave Master alone or he'll definitely get eaten. But he doesn't want to be an absent figure to his kids - and Xiao Qi has made his intentions to continue on the pilgrimage no matter what.
SWK & LEM: *share a look* Pigsy: "No. Absolutely not." SWK: "I can't leave Liang alone on the island with five babies. It's not fair." Sandy: "And we'll need them if Xiao Qi wishes to continue on with us..." Pigsy: "NO." Tripitaka: "We aren't a nursery service." Pigsy: "Thank you!" Tripitaka, places hand on SWK's shoulder: "We're family." Pigsy: "Noooo!" *Cut to each Pilgrim holding a baby* Pigsy, threateningly: "You two best keep it in your pants from now on!" SWK: "Thats not how they were made!" Pigsy: "I don't wanna even hear about your bedroom activities!" Xiaolizi/Little Plum: *squeaks angrily from Pigsy's back* Pigsy: "See? Even he's tired of it!"
Each Pilgrim gets a fruit baby to hold.
Pigsy is very upset by this turn of events, but luckily his little buddy (Plum) backs him up in his rantings ("Meh!" "Thats what I'm saying!").
Sandy is just rattling off history facts and stories to Cherry while the baby just "ooo"s and giggles at everything he says.
Tripitaka gets Peach, cus the little girl is the easiest to hold and seems interested in the monk's vague Buddhist sayings.
Apricot just *leaps* onto Ao Lie's back and refuses to be moved less he starts crying. The dragon-horse feels a little smug to be his favorite.
Jujube has to be kept close to the monkey parents or else she tries running off to cause mischief. Very much her Baba's daughter.
Xiao Qi is still a Baba's boy, and will 100% cling to Smokey if his hands are free. The wolf kids feel a little left out at times, but Liang is quick to focus attention on them when the fruity babies are causing a fuss. A few of the babies learn how to transform into wolf pups so they can run together as a mini-pack (Apricot prefers to be a horse foal).
As for the potential dangers of having so many small children on this journey? While both monkey parents would have *preferred* to have raised the cubs on FFM, they know that they can do so much more good in the world while travelling.
And a lot of demons would look at the pilgrim group like; "Are those monks? Sweet Yama! How many baby demons are there? They def aren't good monks in any case. Ain't worth my time." XD
We are talking about super-powerful, nigh-indestructible, nature-healing babies after all. The real people in danger are whoever dares think they can handle a baby in a fair fight.

He’s Mine - open roleplay - Dark/Possessive/Manipulative Macaque x Sun Wukong
_———_
Idea: Macaque getting possessive over Wukong and Mk after several demons try to kidnap Mk and force Wukong into a demon marriage.
()()()()
‘Well shit.’ A figure thought carrying a small squirming bundle in their arms as they raced through the alleys and backstreets. Their energy practically drained from the arcane laws the ones chasing them had invoked. Golden blood leaked from a deep wound on their side while flashes of a thick black choker was wrapped snuggly around the being’s dark blood-drenched neck in the weak lights.
The being was tired and exhausted but the fear of what would happen to the squirming bundle in their arms if they got caught spurred them on as the being came to a dead-end ally jumping to the corner and using the walls and their reduced agility to maneuver to over the wall tucking into a roll on the other side as the ring of a firearm followed by blinding pain in their leg nearly made them crumble. “Fuck!” the being cursed as they forced their body to keep running as more echoes of firearms came from being them.
They ducked into a slim dark wedge of a side street hidden behind some dumpsters panting hard while their heart pounded in their chest, pressing their back against the cold metal to help them focus on anything put the pain in their leg.
They slowed their breath as they heard many feet just outside of their hiding place.
“God damn it! How hard is it to find a bright gold monkey with a slave collar bleeding out and shot several times?! He should be incapacitated by now!” a demon snarled while the clicks of a gun being reloaded filled the hidden one’s ears.
“He’s still a God in his own right Boss. He went utterly savage on the few that tried to grab the kid he took under his wing.”
“Find him! Find him and bring him to me! I'm going to enjoy threatening that kid that fucking monkey has and making that false King scream when I hold a gun to that other monkey’s head!”
The being hiding in the the side ally grit his teeth and makes his choice. […Shadow… please… I need help…] the being mentally projected down a frayed and decaying connection long ignored hoping he didn't make the wrong choice as pain flared around his neck from the choker squeezing his his throat shut depriving him of breath causing instinct to kick in. [*MIHOU!*] they mentally screamed while they gasped for air golden tears glittering down their face in the dim light try in to pull off the choker that sent shocks of divine energy into their body.
Shadows writhed and grew around the being writhing and gasping for breath vision swimming as a blurry black figure with glowing purple eyes came close tenderly cupping their face in their hands. “Shush~ I'm here now Gem~ Sleep, i’ll take care of the *pests*~”
The being felt their body go slack before they slipped into the darkness of unconsciousness free of the pain their body had been subjected to for the past month running around the city from demon after demon trying to make them submit. They felt light in the black void but they knew it was only a matter of time before they woke up in the Shadow’s possessive embrace. ‘One must pay a price to leave the Diyu before the cycle claims them… I gave up entering the cycle of life and death… Just what did he give up to become so obsessed with me after he became free from that ice bitch?’

For those of you who are new to this, I have predone writing prompts and you can request which character to see in them next, and I'll write a short story for it following your specifications! I've done another one like this for Sun Wukong. I have another prompt that involves the reader falling and needing rescue, which so far I've done for Ne Zha, Yin, and Macaque. If you like either of those and want to see a specific character next, or have an idea of your own, you can request stories or headcanons in my inbox! I already have a few in there I cannot wait to get to!!
Sleepy Prompt
After pushing themselves too hard for too long, the reader still refuses to sleep, resulting in the character who's crushing on them stepping in to force them to get some rest.
Macaque x Reader
"The reader has been struggling with a myriad of demands including their job, and simply can't say no to any of their many obligations, resulting in Macaque enforcing a self care day when they meet nearby his Dojo."
Tumblr media
It had been silly of you to expect anything to turn out in your favor, but you still felt the sting of disappointment when your boss's notification popped up on your phone, demanding your immediate arrival on what was supposed to be a day off.
Shoulders slumping from more than just weariness, you tried not to think about how hard it would be to stay awake for a solid eight hours as you changed course on the empty sidewalk. The impromptu visit you'd been hoping for was shot; you just had to wait for next week and hope that day wouldn't be stolen too. The sun rising over the roof of the Dojo at your back made your heart sink with painful want. There was so little in your world that made you happy, it seemed almost purposefully cruel of fate to deny you time with your only friend.
Getting a move on so as not to be weighed down by your sadness or exhaustion, you tried to walk quickly to wake yourself up. Between the overtime and the total lack of breaks, your body was suffering just as much as your social life, making every step that much harder. It would be a miracle if you didn't doze off before your shift was over. Knowing your boss, he'd probably kick up a fuss over you looking less than enthused to be working on three hours of sleep…
A most unexpected rush of wind tousled your hair, and before you could fix it another breeze sent it whooshing in the other direction, followed by another after that in an unnatural whiplash. Your sleep deprived brain briefly panicked about losing its grip on reality before a magical and familiar glow caught your eye.
"You know, when I saw my favorite human outside my front door, I was expecting a visit." Macaque teased as he materialized from the thin shadow of a streetlight, walking as if he'd merely stepped in from another room. The portal he'd summoned to surprise you faded into nothingness as he leveled his playful gaze on you. Even if he was obviously playing around, your heart twisted with guilt to think he'd seen you and been anticipating your visit, unannounced as it had been. It was bad enough you'd had to cancel, now you had to share that disappointment.
Still smirking but losing some of the playfulness as he beheld your absolutely miserable expression, he righted your tousled hair with a tiny and almost apologetic breeze, but continued to be far from serious. "I'm crushed! What's the matter, can't spare a minute for your favorite monkey?"
"Oh, I didn't realize-!" you began in an apology, not wanting him to think you'd ever pass up the chance to spend time with him. Goodness, looking forward to the small amount of time you got to spend with him was what kept you going… Realizing that every minute counted, you changed the topic and started to walk and talk, encouraging him to follow for the brief explanation you hoped would be sufficient. "Sorry! My boss needs me to pull another shift. I've got to hurry or else I'll be late."
Macaque tilted his head and lost a fraction of his smirk, but was genuinely perplexed as opposed to displeased, walking at your side with his arms folded behind his back. "Late on your day off?"
"It's not my day off anymore…" you sighed, the weight of it all hitting you anew. Being awake for this long was already pushing it, you had no idea how you were going to make it through your shift, but you also had no choice. You were struggling to make ends meet and money was, unfortunately, not something you could afford to turn down.
"Hmm." Macaque hummed in apparent thought. An apologetic goodbye was set to leave your lips before he unexpectedly kept the conversation going, stepping in front of you to stop you in your tracks. Golden eyes looked you over from top to bottom as he arched a brow incredulously. You wilted a little under his gaze, fully convinced he'd be disappointed in your lack of time for him. A hand under your chin tilted your downturned gaze up to meet his. Those same eyes held something you didn't have the energy to decipher. "When did you last get a day off? Or a night off, for that matter?"
"I don't have the time." you replied automatically, not wanting him to worry even if it was hard to resist dozing off in his palm. While his concern was appreciated, you didn't want him wasting energy on such trivial mortal things, especially when they didn't involve him. Being a burden was a fantastic way to lose friends. All you could do was get to work and endure the shift, there was no arguing your way out of all the bills you had due. Looking up at him with your exhausted eyes, you tried to convey some small measure of reassurance. "Besides, it's nothing I can't handle."
Releasing your chin, he appeared to concede before chuckling softly. A snap of his fingers summoned a portal in the time it took for you to blink, and before you even had a chance to step back he was pushing you inside. "What a coincidence! I can handle it too, and here's how!"
A mattress met your face after a short fall, leaving you sputtering and knocking aside a tangle of pillows and blankets that ensnared you like a spider's web. Able to recognize the inside of the Dojo, you looked about in total bewilderment before realizing he'd dropped you on his mess of a bed. Anxiety only poverty could bring made the experience far from enjoyable. Good gracious, you didn't have time for this!
"Macaque, hey!" you shouted as he followed you and dropped smoothly to the floor, closing the portal with a calm smirk that stretched from ear to ear. Motivated by fears of late rent and your boss's fury, you wrestled yourself free from his messy nest of a bed, stopping only to catch your breath when the little bit of exercise proved too much. Desperately trying to ignore how tempted you were to just go limp and sleep, you swung your shaking legs about to settle them on the floor. There was simply no time for games, or rest, or fun of any kind in your life, no matter how much you wanted it. There had to be a way to make him understand without pushing him away. "I don't have time for this, I need-"
A hand gripped your shoulder firmly but gently, refusing to let you stand. Caught off guard by how serious he became in what felt like the blink of an eye, you offered no resistance as his golden eyes looked deep into yours, his voice more level and genuine than most would have known he was capable of as he finished your sentence.
"Sleep."
You almost crumpled into him, wanting so badly to comply it brought tears to your eyes. A million worries buzzed about your mind like a swarm of bees, needling you with all of the terrible things that might happen if you lost your job. You had worked so hard just to make it this far on your own, and failing would destroy more than your progress. Your heart couldn't endure another setback on this journey to some kind of stability. "Not as much as I need to pay rent…"
Macaque didn't release your shoulder, and his expression didn't relent in the slightest. If anything, he appeared more intent than ever upon beholding your obvious desperation, though he was as gentle as could be as he pushed you down onto the mattress. You almost shed a few tears as your back met the nest of plush blankets and pillows, your body crying out for the rest you knew deep down it needed but couldn't have. Before you could find the words to argue, he broke the silence.
"You just lay your head down and let someone else do some worrying for a change." he encouraged, your resistance crumbling despite the consequences. This was what you wanted more than anything in the world right now, but even with the weight of absolute exhaustion on your shoulders your fears were too strong to simply ignore. Beholding your despondent expression, he huffed and grabbed one of many spare blankets to toss over you. "Seriously, I'll take care of your boss, alright? You focus on getting some sleep. I can see how bad you need it."
Were you more awake and coherent, you might have had an easier time following along with what he was trying to convey without words, but you were far too twisted up in worry and exhaustion to understand. Not even the blanket over your body or the throbbing of your head could cut through the fog.
"But if I don't-"
"That sounds an awful lot like worrying, Y/N." Macaque retorted, final attempt at being playful fading when he saw the total dejection on your face. Looking aside, he frowned and seemed to battle with something inside himself before huffing and giving in. Dropping the act he wore around almost everyone, he gingerly adjusted the blanket over you to be more comfortable and leaned in, speaking privately as if the two of you might be overhead. "Do you remember what I told you? That as long as I'm here, you don't need to worry? I meant that."
It finally clicked in your mind, like a key turning a formerly jammed lock; you didn't have to worry because he would be there. In his own impossibly repressed way, the Six-Eared Macaque was telling you he'd take care of you. Even if you lost your job, your apartment, all the little things you'd clawed for and thought you needed… he would be there to support you.
"Thank you…" was all you could say, a few hot tears soaking the pillow beneath your head before he wiped them away with a blanket. Clearing his throat, he jumped back into the persona you knew so well, smiling as he ensured you were set up to his satisfaction.
"Don't thank me yet, I'm a terrible roommate." he joked, cementing that you had a place with him. Considering how you'd more than likely be fired either for missing this shift or whatever Macaque was about to do to your manager, that would undoubtedly be happening sooner rather than later. The idea didn't frighten you in the least. If anything, he'd just removed a burden so great all your body cared to do was rest. You went absolutely limp on the bed, its comfort seeping into you like a warm embrace as sleep took you more rapidly than you knew it was capable of.
Just before unconsciousness took you, the lights were switched off, and a gentle hand seemed to brush your temple as a careful voice whispered with some uncertainty. "If you need me, you, uh, know where I'll be."
