Prompt 271
“Grandmother is visiting,” Damian suddenly said with no warning and with his usual not-quite demanding tone.
“Who?” Tim wasn’t the only one to startle, seeing as Bruce had practically froze, a downturn to his lips in a silent show of confusion.
Damian scowled. “Are you deaf Drake? Grandmother is coming to Gotham to, quote, make sure I am being properly cared for.” None of them had known that Ras was with anyone actually. At least Tim was pretty sure that would have been in the files.
“Oh?” Dick didn’t quite crouch to Damian’s height but it was a near thing. “She-” “He,” Damian corrected, interrupting him. They all exchanged a glance before Dick continued.
“Is he coming to the Manor or…”
Damian scoffed again, a tiny bit of a flush against his face. “No, Grandmother will most likely be staying with Akhi-”
Now wait one moment-
“YOU HAVE ANOTHER BROTHER?!”

i know it requires misreading a bunch of stuff but TO ME the summer hikaru died is about the inherent horror in having unrequited feelings for your straight friend. it CAN be about this if i squint really hard

one of my coworkers seems to have a different understanding of polite refusals than I do and it’s driving me nuts because when I try and hold firm and say ‘no, I’m good, but thank you!’ when she offers me soup for the millionth time she keeps coming back with it. I know social signals can be confusing and some people feel the need to refuse before accepting but we once went back and forth literally for days about one soup until I caved.

Prompt 113
“I seem to have been taken hostage.” Batman’s words almost had Superman panic if not for the wry tone, a tone which the others didn’t know if their freaking out was to go by. Clark sighed through the comms, tired after battle and honestly wanting to go to bed now.
“I’ll be right over, what child has latched onto you now?” He asked while switching to a more private channel.
“I can already hear you making fun of me…” Wha- Oh. Clark bit his lip to keep himself from laughing as he took to the air. “They appear to be a pair of twins with…”
“You gotta’ say it Bruce, you gotta’,” Clark couldn’t stop the chuckle when he saw his friend on the top of a building, cape curled around his form in a way usually reserved for the robins.
“... with dark hair… and blue eyes…” That was it. Clark absolutely lost it in laughter.

small OCD victory from a few days ago
to some, this may seem minor but it was a pretty big deal to me and I'm really proud of myself
a few nights ago, I couldn't sleep. sounds like the average night for a teenager or twenty-something year old, but the reason I couldn't sleep was that I couldn't get one specific intrusive thought out of my head. I won't go into detail, but it was very gruesome. for four hours this one violent intrusive thought played over and over in my head until I couldn't take it. I had decided that I would get up, take a shower, and do my compulsions to make it go away- just long enough that I could finally sleep. it was 5am at that point and I decided to sit in my living room for a bit before I showered. luckily I had my mom and she got up and talked to me for the next hour until it eventually went away on its own
for some people, this may seem insignificant. but every time we can get through our anxiety without doing compulsions, it's a huge victory and a step toward healing.
we can't always resist our compulsions. after all, many of us have been doing them for our whole lives. but you should always try. if you don't succeed, it's okay, but the feeling that you have after you conquer OCD even just a little bit is indescribable.

this disorder better watch out, because I'm catching up little by little

“The water famine in Port Credit and Toronto township, Ontario has reached such proportions that Deans Bros., Port Credit contractors, have equipped their trucks with three large barrels making sales of water from house to house. Middle Road school buys 2,000 gallons a week. Above is shown the truck.”

A lot of younger people have no idea what aging actually looks and feels like, and the reasons behind it. That ignorance is so dangerous. If you don’t want to “be old,” you aren’t talking about a number of years. I have patients in their late 80s who could still handily beat me in a race—one couple still runs marathons together, in their late 80s—and I lost someone who was in her early 60s to COPD last year. What you want is not youth, it is health.
If you want to still be able to enjoy doing things in your 60s and 70s and 80s and even 90s, what you want to do, right now, is quit smoking, get some activity on a regular basis (a couple of walks a week is WAY better for you than nothing; increasing from 1 hour a day of cardio to 1.5 will buy you very little), and eat some plants. That’s it. No magic to it. No secret weird tricks. Don’t poison yourself, move around so your body doesn’t forget how, and eat plants.
If you have trouble moving around now because of mobility limitations, bad news: you still need to move around, not because it’s immoral not to, but because that’s still the best advice we have. I highly recommend looking up the Sit and Be Fit series; it is freely available and has exercises that can be done in a chair, which are suitable for people with limited mobility or poor balance. POTS sufferers, I’m looking at you.
If you have trouble eating plants because of dietary issues (they cause gas, etc.) or just because they’re bitter (super taster with texture issues here!), bad news. You still want to find a way to get some plants into your body on a regular basis. I know. It sucks. The only way I can do it is restaurants—they can make salads taste like food. I can also tolerate some bagged salads. On bad weeks, the OCD with contamination focus gets so bad I just can’t. However, canned beans always seem “safe,” and they taste a bit like candy, so they’re a good fallback.
If you smoke and you have tried quitting a million times and you’re just not ready to, bad news. You still need to quit. Your body needs you to try and keep trying. Your brain needs it, too. Damaging small blood vessels racks up cumulative damage over time that your body can start trying to reverse as soon as you quit. I know it’s insanely, absurdly addictive. You still need to.
You cannot rules lawyer your way past your body’s basic needs. It needs food, sleep, activity, and the absence of poison. Those are both small things and big asks. You cannot sustain a routine based on punishment, so don’t punish your body. Find ways to include these things that are enjoyable and rewarding instead. Experiment. There is no reason not to experiment—you don’t have to know instantly what’s going to work for you and what won’t, you just need to be willing to try things and make changes when things aren’t working for you.
You will still age. Your body will stop making collagen and elastin. Tissues you can see and tissues you can’t see will both sag. Cushioning tissues under your skin will get thinner. You’ll bruise more easily. Skin will tear more easily. Accumulated sun damage will start to show more and more. Joints will begin to show arthritis. Tendons and ligaments will get weaker and get injured more easily, as will muscles. Bones will lose mass and get easier to break. You’ll get tired more easily.
But you know what makes the difference between being dead, or as good as, in your 60s vs your 90s? Activity, plants, and quitting smoking. And don’t do meth. Saw a 58-year-old guy this week who is going to have a heart attack if he doesn’t quit whatever stimulant he’s on. I pretended to believe it was just the cigarettes, and maybe it is, but meth and cocaine will kill you quicker. Stop poisoning yourself.
Baby steps; take it one step at a time; you don’t need to have everything figured out right now. But you do need to be working on figuring things out.

the whole idea of punitive justice seems to be this idea that you've done something horrible, as punishment you are going to go suffer in jail. and id think that a part of that is that once you've gone through that punishment, you're now absolved of your sins, or whatever catholics do. does not seem to be the narrative most proponents hold up though- they seem continue to want offenders punished forever. i also hear people kind of think of it in terms similar to the mindset of preventative justice where they think that for example not having the right to vote functions as an incentive to not commit crimes. or that (for example) having to disclose felony status to employers resulting in not having a job is a necessary measure for the safety of hypothetical coworkers, and somehow this hypothetical felon will just find a job working in a storage container and never participate in society again. it's not always wholly contradictory to the morals of restorative justice because i think part of this mindset is that they essentially think restorative justice works and is good but only for people they already see as redeemable, and everybody who commits the bad crimes should die or be locked in a box.
