idk what to do😭 like i know i wanna do pre-med and then neuroscience but idk which uni's, yk? and im current doing ib and i feel like time is running out and im panicking and now im think maybe pred-med and neuro isnt the best choice😭😭

my first piece of advice would be to try and ask yourself why you wanna do neuroscience in the first place.

is it something you're passionate abt or interested in? are you going into that specific field for the paycheck? is it something that you'll beat yourself up for if you don't do it? are you doing it to make someone else proud or because it's what they expect of you?

if it's something you truly want to do, then i would say its the course you should go for bc you'd genuinely want to be there, as opposed to it being something that you're doing for the money or because you feel pressured to do it (typically, in these situations people turn out fucking miserable and i don't want that happening to u, not if i can help it)

if you feel like you don't wanna do it because of any of those reasons, you should consider something else maybe close to the initial field you chose or something that interests you. for example, at first i was convinced i was either gonna do a double degree in arts and law, or go into family law, but i realised that it wasn't something i'd enjoy doing. so now, i'm planning on studying social work so there's still that element of helping people from a legal perspective but more hands-on, which is what i prefer

once you've decided what course you wanna do, or narrowed it down to probably two or three, i would suggest looking at the requirements that different unis have for those courses. see the kinds of utilities they offer, how long their course runs for, the marks you'd need to get in, the graduation rates of your course in a specific uni, etc.

also, picking a uni that you feel comfortable in is so important too! no two unis will be the same so be sure to find one with an environment you think you'll work best in, or feel more at home in if you're planning on living in dorms.

one last thing: you'll always have time. if you decide to do neuroscience and end up not liking it, or maybe another course doesn't work in your favour, there's so many different ways to get back on track and so many different opportunities available that'll be right for you eventually

listen. i know it's not 2014 anymore and i know it's just a throwaway line and that the russo brothers didnt intend for marvel action blockbuster captain america the winter soldier to become the tragic gay love story that never was but man. having steve say "it's kind of hard to find someone with shared life experience" in a conversation about romantic relationships right before the bucky reveal is so cruel. it's not just about steve and bucky obviously having the shared experience of being "out of time," it's the fact that they've both been stripped of their humanity in opposite directions. steve is a legend, he is an american hero and a national icon before he is a human being the same way that bucky is a weapon and a killing machine before he is a human being. steve knows that anyone who falls in love with him in the 21st century fell in love with captain america first, and that's just not him. but then the one person who knew him first and knew him best and loved him (not captain america, that little guy from brooklyn) so much he died for it is alive, impossibly. and it's a miracle because he's back and it's horrific because he's back under the worst possible circumstances. but to steve, the winter soldier is worth tearing the world apart for because he's always been bucky first. they find each other and suddenly they're human again. and maybe, despite it all, being "out of time" becomes a blessing, because in this century they'd finally be allowed to love each other the way they've always wanted to. like real people do.
