on the other hand, at least one of them is on track to play soccer professionally, but more will probably keep playing it through college and make a career out of sports in some way (announcers, analysts, etc)

TUMMY HURT which is no surprise after literally 36 hrs of near constant panic attacks and barely being able to eat. Pf last night was maybe the first not crying I'd done all day INCLDUING literally having a meltdown AT CHURCH where I had to hide in the bathroom woooo

Pf was great. A delight. As always. Perfect no notes I wanna go to a fey rave and get a magic cat and also maybe the god of chaos and nature is shipping this nerd gf/jock gf wizard relationship

Related to panic. Trying not to think abt tattoo shock and commitment issues and whether I fucked up by doing smthn that I wanted deeply but didn't turn out perfectly and I'm DISTRESSED and STUPID and I'm gonna stop talking before I send myself into another spiral. I told myself I have to leave it a few weeks to heal and settle before I can even think about having changes made & 6-8 months before I can decide if I truly hate it or it's an manifestation of my anxiety about risk taking and things being less than 100% perfect. But. I'm still not convinced I like the way it turned out. And somehow this feels (irrationally) like a life ruining decision + moral failure. And I really have to stop before I spiral again

East of Eden - John Steinbeck The humanity of this book is what got to me. I couldn't imagine reading another book when I finished this one, I felt bereft and that odd sense of loss that comes at the conclusion of a story with characters you deeply love. Not to mention that the Kathy angle made sections feel straight out of a modern day thriller.

H is for Hawk - Helen MacDonald.. to intertwine a memoir of grief and loss with a th white biography and a large measure of birding knowledge is quite the feat. But that sounds too pat an answer. I'll quote my goodreads review for this: This book felt like me sharing something that lurks so deep inside my heart, so carefully protected, so strewn with feelings like vines and bits of moss that shake off as I hold it out. It felt like sharing that something and absolutely, 100%, knowing that the recipient understood, with every fiber of their being.

Survival in Auschwitz - Primo Levi. Please, this isnt just what you think it is. It is that and more. Levi's words will leave you spellbound and aching and hopeful and everything in between.

Dandelion Wine - Ray Bradbury. As with most of my favorites, this is sublime writing that makes me long for a time i am too young to have experienced. Utterly gorgeous.

Provinces of Night - William Gay. This was my first William Gay novel and I am slowly making through them all. Southern Gothic with such elegant prose. I want to write like him. A negative review called Gay's work "novels with poems scattered about weak plots" and frankly? that's what i love? so good job you sold me

Microserfs - Douglas Coupland The author of my 20s. His stuff opened me up to fiction about real people with real feelings thinking the things you do in your head. The unbearable loneliness of the human condition and the wondrousness that is friendship. I am not a rereader but ive read this book at least five times. I have no idea if it has aged well, i do not care.

The Chronicles of Amber - Roger Zelazny. Something about this urban? fantasy grabbed me in a chokehold and never let go. I first read this at the beach, paging through dog-eared paperbacks a friend urged me to read. I barely left the deck that week. The traveling into Amber, the walking of the Pattern - these things will never leave me.

Lonesome Dove - Larry McMurtry Look yes it's a western but it's The Western for a reason. Characters that seep into your bones. The image of lightning dancing across a steer's horns remains as vivid as when i read the book 3+ years ago.

Station Eleven - Emily St. John Mandel Something about how this post-pandemic story is paced, something about the stakes of it and how they will differ from any other post-apocalyptic book you've ever read, stuck with me. There was a simple beauty here that I never want to let go of.

Flower to flower conversation. by yetanotherpersona - okay, technically this is about flowey. but it's also about chara via his relationship with/memories of them. and it's also one of my fave UT fics, so i'm just throwing it here anyways! A Minor Scheduling Error also by yetanotherpersona. this is a series, not a single fic. it's an alternate timeline, pre-canon. what if someone had intervened and chara hadn't died? very good, definitely made me a bit emotional at times. Despite Everything by lumalees - an oldie, but a goodie! quintessential pre-canon chara character study goodness. Kill the Party with Me by shizuoh - post-pacifist chara & frisk body sharing fic. a bittersweet quest for mementos from when chara was alive. Never Had a Chance to Bloom by distanceseventeen - okay, another cheater rec bc this one is very asriel-centric. but i think as a chara enjoyer, i really love anything that illuminates different reads of their character from other POVs. and anything that explores all of the complicated relationships people have with chara. lovely & well-written, ongoing. Leave the Ruins Where They Fall by acai_sparrow - based on a take i really adore, where the best ending you/frisk can obtain for chara is simply closure, the permission to move on. this was inspired by something i wrote, and i love the separate take on it here. You Wear Your Grief Like a Bandage by polyhexian - another series! i recall really enjoying these the first time i read them, but it's been years! so, it may be time to revisit them! What is a Star? by charnehr - a sweet chara & asriel story using one of my fave tropes in chara & asriel fanfic: they talk about stars! Holes Within Holes by sugarglassy - canon-compliant no mercy route one-shot. very good ruminations on chara, asriel, flowey, and the Weight Of It All. How to Knit a Sweater by recurse - very sweet, charming one-shot. pre-canon. cannot recommend enough if you want a fic that feels like sipping a warm cup of tea. i hope that gives you some starting off points!

Ma being the absolute queen iconic caretaker that she is, and 3. the type and intensity and level of sickness is my absolute FAVORITE‼️ sick enough that it’s genuinely concerning and worrisome (DELIRIOUS BABIES ARE ALWAYS SO TOP TIER) but not enough to warrant a trip to the ER quite yet and AHHHH i’m OBSSESSED

When I got your ask I was like hm what’s this? Only to be hit straight in the feels with a truckload of bricks. ‘Annoy’ me you say. Something like this could never annoy me. This was legit me reading your ask holding back tears:

Tbh I was in a massive writing slump since like end of April. Idk what happened. I got a lil sad, then sick, then even more sad, then my birthday came up, then I got burnt out, next thing I knew it was June and my writing skills just switched off. Nothing all of May(except that one fic I barely remember writing while sick and fueled purely by spite). So when I wrote the last Neymessi fic, I was like not doing great at all. But idk I felt like I had to write something and the idea had been swimming in my head. But writing too sad fics when you’re already sad just = feeling shit about your work. Plus I felt so bad about writing, I thought it would be my last fic ever.

But I mean now I’m no longer feeling weird about writing and I can see the fic from an objective pov. I made a ton of typos and used the same words like twice in one sentence and just cringe phrasings. I could’ve done it better. However, I managed to write 4000 words when I thought I couldn’t. So I won’t delete it cause I can be at least proud of that fact. Also I’m not a quitter, if I delete the fic, the knowledge will haunt me forever. But I will be writing the second chap and I have ideas.

Now I feel kinda bad about it cause I know I said chap 2 will be sweeter buuuut I think it might still be sad. But only because I wanna write a 3rd chapter which will be sweeter. However keyword is sweeter…not sweet. Uh it’ll be a bittersweet ending cause either way Leo’s still leaving but I could never bring my heart to be entirely miserable like that. So don’t worry, it’ll end wellness 😌 but chap 2 is mostly just gonna be Leo’s pov and thoughts then chap 3 will be them finally talking after we hear what Leo’s thinking.

Also…about strawberries and cream though I logged into my ao3 for the first time a couple weeks yesterday and I was so shocked? Last I checked it was at 400 now it’s almost doubled😭😭 I’m so shook. But I’m glad you liked strawberries and cream. It’s one of my fave fics I wrote too.

You’re so sweet anon🥹🥹 like not to be like annoying about comments or wtv. But it always helps to know there is someone who likes your story and you aren’t just writing to the air. And to know I made you react so strongly to it is insane to me. But seriously, thank you so much for this, I’m legit gonna think of this message whenever I feel like I can’t write🫶

Hi! Any recs for timkon, or kon centric fics? It only tends to be in the background/implied in batfam centric fics that i read, but i keep seeing you post about timkon and 🥺🥰 I’m catching feelings about it

i’ll be real... im glad u asked bc i read So much timkon ♥ sorting by kudos for timkon is hard bc yeah... its so often background..... kon deserves better!!!!!! so here are some stories u should definitely read, by some lovely authors whose works i am absolutely normal about:

reminded seeing the collection of the batfam fic survey i voted in (which is fun and exciting, ill be checking some of those out later!!!!!) of some of the batshit collections people have requested my works be added to.

straight up some of you need to just use the bookmark function because it is beyond offensive to have your fic added to a collection titled “dumb bullshit to satiate my escapism”. like, really? obviously i rejected that one, and ive rejected a few others just because. that’s not what collections are for.

do people forget collections are public? do people forget that you see a list of collections a work is in directly under the tags? i’m honoured to accept my works into collections titled “fics i love”; “fics i’ll reread until the end of time”; “fics with good stephanie characterisation”—these are compliments, and things like “robin vs red hood” collect specific tropes and AUs together that ao3 may not have the tags for yet. they serve a function

i dunno, i think collection use has got a bit out of hand. im complaining on main because this keeps happening and at one extreme it’s offensive (dumb bullshit??) and at the other extreme there already exists a function for tracking it (“fics i have read”?)

respectfully, i think some people may benefit from bookmarks and bookmark tags. for one, you can tag nigh limitlessly, and search them on your bookmarks page using both the tags and the notes. also, most importantly, you can make them private. want to leave a note for yourself as to why you didn’t fully enjoy a fic? remind yourself of something that triggered you? want to simply keep track of a fic you didn’t enjoy as much as others? private bookmark, and the author never has to know.

this is a little bit of a rant but when i have rejected my works being added to collections multiple times it adds up, lol.

since i cannot find the masterpost i initially used to obtain all these extensions initially, here’s a list of privacy extensions i use in conjunction with firefox! i’ve included a link to each of them which is very easy if you use firefox. pls use firefox. brave is also good for privacy. there are others out there so do your research, and again, please for the love of god, switch from chrome if you can xx

Bypass Paywalls Clean - bypasses paywalls. v helpful. this one isn’t verified by firefox however

Decentraleyes - this helps to prevent websites from tracking you and blocks requests

Don’t track me google - stops google from lengthening urls theycan track you with. godsend

DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials - blocks tracking, enables https where possible, overall a good and helpful extension

Facebook Container - isolates facebook in its own container so its much harder for them to track you. always a bonus

HTTPS Everywhere - does what it says!

Privacy Badger - blocks trackers, similar to some of the others listed. can never have too many

Shinigami eyes - if you dont have this enabled wyd? marks trans friendly accounts as green and transphobic ones as red, or other colours based on your preference. makes blocking very quick and easy! not verified by firefox, but just as essential as the rest

uBlock Origin - basically an ad blocker, the best of the bunch; also prevents a lot of tracking and coin miners too

tbh I'm not sure if rambling/ranting abt characters you enjoy is allowed in this blog but man I still think abt how I got Kazuha on my NA/America acc last year

Like every time I see him on my acc and fanart of him w/ the other boys I am always, ALWAYS reminded of how he decided "oh lol I'm coming home at like the second 10 pull with your primos :)"

And honestly it was during his debut so i cannot tell you the feeling I had when I see that golden light just BARRELING and the ugly yell I let out because I??? Got my ronin boy???? Against 50/50???

I swear I'm not delusional but God I want to rant sm abt him because it was also during the first archipelago event and he hasn't left my team since then ;v; I genuinely owe him a LOT for helping my now (sort of) built team and every day I just go "damn, I wouldn't be having an easier time traveling without you on my party"

I don't know man, I may sound extremely delusional ranting abt my favorite anemo boy that has so much trauma on his shoulders that he's resolved during the events + story quests but he's so precious, it makes my heart soar. I would rant more of what I want to do to him (all sfw of course, I'm too embarrassed to rant abt NSFW online ahisbsidjd), but this could take ages and I don't wanna swamp your inbox ;v;

Anyway, rant over, I just want to talk abt my first encounter with Kazu and how he decides that day of all days to come home despite me not being extremely close to pity (and hasn't left my party since)

I respond to comments because you must be crazy if you think I'm gonna pass up a chance to discuss the blorbos I write about more

Probably the weight of your actions, but I swear it's only angsty bc the canon of Gwen's universe in Spiderverse is angsty! Author is not responsible!

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Can I cheat and do a fic I haven't written yet? Because the ending of the Wind and Wild gender series is going to be so sweet it may cause cavities. Other than that, probably Eudemonia, cause it's just pure fankids fluff.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

No, I think half my fics are probably too niche to attract bad faith types.

9. Do you write smut?

I'm baby.

10. Do you write crossovers?

I rotated the idea of Owl House x LU in my brain for a while but never wrote it, and now that I haven't, I probably never will.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Lol yeah someone uploaded an incredibly similar fic to in how many grey hours a few hours after I did, but nothing ever came of it. It wasn't Stolen stolen so I don't really care.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I haven't hit that milestone yet :(

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

The Lumity fankids are a brainchild of myself, @heleirylis and our friend maisa even if the fics on my profile for it aren't actually co-written. Also me and leir still need to do a joint fic for one of our fandoms (it WILL happen soon)

14. What's your all time favourite ship?

Lumity or Kuromaya now I've gotten back into the latter. I could write essays about both. I have in the case of Lumity

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Can I say all of them? LOL er jokes aside I could answer this question with my timeloop fic where Time dies in front of Twilight and Twi uses the ocarina to try to save him over and over, but I haven't even started that properly, and I still reserve the right to say I WILL finish it. It's just a way more complicated fic than anything else I've ever written and requires much more brainpower than I fear I currently have. I guess the WIP that is actually never getting finished is my Fluffbruary 2023 collection. RIP.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue and writing characters in character.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Anything other than those two things. But particularly writing descriptions.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

A couple of my fave blorbos are bilingual so I do it occasionally. But my brother is the one with a languages degree, not me, so I honestly try and avoid it.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Zelda, back when I was 11. Which makes me happy that I'm still writing for it now.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

It's a bit hard to choose but I really love I've Built My Life Around You. I was attempting to capture a very specific feeling and I think I did it. Plus my writing is way too good in that fic, to the point where whenever I reread it I forget I'm the one who wrote it. And I reread it a lot cause it's my niche I want to read, which is why it probably qualifies as my fave.

Right this single second my three favorite fics would have to be Stay by Anna (because it's just so intimate and calming, I just fucking love it), if we make it through December by Hazel ( @allsassnoclass ) (which made me cRY so hard), and i don't mind you under my skin by Molly (which is always one of my faves and tbh may be the fic I reread the most often.)

9. Tag 3 fic writers you think are underrated/unknown in the fandom/fanfiction community.

I think that you, Amanda ( @lifewasradical ) are underrated for a lot of reasons. You challenge yourself a lot with pieces (ie. the word count goal for mv & no dialogue for that New Years fic). I think that you should be given a lot more credit for that kind of stuff (bc it takes discipline and effort to do that) and also because you're constantly growing as a writer!! Your fics are always evolving, I think, and you are too. || I also just really want more people to gush about the fic you wrote for me during the last round of fic exchange bc it's seriously one of my favorites ever and I want it to be praised & I want a moodboard for it dammit ||

I also think that Monse ( @lukemichaelcalumashton ) should get more recognition!! I'm surprised Monse isn't getting daily asks saying stuff like "you're my favorite writer." Have y'all read 20/20?? Oh my god??? Also, here's a cool fact!! Back when I was casually reading 5sos fic and wasn't super involved on tumblr, I actually read a lot of Monse's fics and loved them without even realizing Monse wrote them!! And then, after I'd been friends with her for like 5 minutes, I went onto her ao3 page to check her out and my jaw literally dropped bc I went "holy shit I've read these before." So yeah!! I think Monse needs more hype. So go give it to her. Now. That's an order. 😡

And, finally, I think that Emma ( @the-girl-who-cried-wolf ) needs more hype for her writing! She writes the cutest little fics and they feel so much like a warm hug and taste like a sweet treat. They're always so calming for me. And also I just think Emma is a fucking precious gem of a person and I really want as much Emma appreciation/love on my dash as I can get.

11. How do you come up with your fic titles?

Depends on the fic! They have to be one to two words for sure, preferably two. And if you want my secret rn... I made a list of twenty different titles for my fic Portable Player and now I just pick one of those twenty to slap onto a new fic lol. I'm an innovator. Usually, it's the word of the fic that's used the most. Or the theme that's the most common. I don't know, it really does depend on which fic.

20. What’s your favorite part about the fanfiction writing process?

I mean tbh it's putting that baby into ao3 and picking tags. I love the tagging system on ao3 and I thank God and Molly every day for the ability to put "gratuitous descriptions of Luke Hemmings" on a fic. It's a blessing.

33. What do you like writing better: one-shots or multi-chapter stuff?

Okay!! I was literally just thinking today while I was writing that I love multi-chap stuff so much more. Like, don't get me wrong I love writing one-shots and I do write a lot of then because they're fun and pretty easy for me! BUT there's just something about multi-chapter fics... I get to really fall in love with characters and become invested in them. I have time to make them DEVELOP and have CHARACTER ARCS and REALIZATIONS ABOUT THEMSELVES!!! Oh my godddd. It's enough time to make enemies turn to lovers. For a character to realize they're capable of being loved. For a character to understand and heal from something. You can't commonly have those sorts of long, unwinding emotions in a one-shot. Also it's just more fic to love <3 More time for slow-burn and build.

I don’t care about reading goals tbh but if you mean the one I put on goodreads (40 books), yes, I did. I don’t post everything I read on gr so i’m guesstimating that I read around 80+ books this year

What's a book that you didn't expect to enjoy quite so much going in?

I don’t think enjoy is the right word for it but Daniel Stein, Interpreter by Lyudmila Ulitskaya was really, really good. Usually I avoid absolutely anything that mentions the holocaust bc hate the entire entertainment industry built around it (and that’s why I don’t want to use the word enjoy here), but my mom told me to read this book and I’m glad I did. I’d recommend it to anyone interested in theology and humanity.

I read a lot more nonfiction than I usually do. It started with The Death of the Moth and Other Essays by Virginia Woolf and suddenly I was reading everything with the subject heading ‘essays’ in my library. As one does. 

What was your predominant format this year?

I usually just pick the one that’s easiest for me to find. I work in a library so I skim a lot of hardcover books and borrow the ones that don’t have like hundreds of holds. But that’s mostly books that are in Finnish. Also, I’m diagnosed with adhd so I have access to Finnish and Norwegian libraries for persons with print disabilities & listen to their audiobooks quite a lot. If I read in English it’s usually ebooks or audiobooks from scribd/amazon/libro/storytel/some other online sources.
