How do you feel about the increase in really weird NSFW ads on here (advertising panels that look like sexual encounters, and AI art apps that pride themselves on porn) but will take down NSFW posts from their users, even if it isn't technically sexual.
i hate all social media and it's consistent prioritising the advertisers over the users and the internet simply was a better place before capitalism sunk its hooks into it
#i could write essays about how capitalism ruined the internet.#i was actually talking to someone earlier today about how youtube was kind of effectively ruined by monetisation.#and they were raised in the soviet union and we had a bit of a talk about how art was better because it wasn't for profit.#the people who made art made it because they wanted to do it and because they loved it.#she said that communism was terrible for every aspect of life for her. people's lives under communism wasn't pretty.#but the art was better. and i feel like it's true for the internet – it was better when it was a free-for-all.#the companies didn't know how to exploit it yet and turn it into a neverending profit-driven hellscape.#people created content because they wanted to. because they wanted to make something silly to make people laugh.#not for profit. not for gain. not for numbers. not to further their career.#i miss the days of newgrounds and youtube before monetisation.#capitalism has soiled everything that's joyful and good in this world.#people should be able to share whatever they want.#people should be able to tell any story they want without the fear of being silenced by advertisers.#that's what made the internet so beautiful before. anyone could do anything and we all had equal footing.#but now we're victims of the algorithm. and it makes me sick.#i'm quitting my job in social media. i'm quitting it. it makes me too depressed. i have an existential crisis every freaking day.#every day i wake up and say "ah. this is the fucking hell we live in#i'm so sorry i feel so passionate about this.#social media is a black hole and it is actively destroying humanity. forget ai. social media is what's doing it.#i miss how beautiful the internet used to be. it should've been a tool for good. but it's corrupt and evil now.#sci speaks

you know i think it's really funny (derogatory) that tumblr seemingly has the ability to create popups for ad-free, crabs, anything that will get them money, but when it comes to using popups to guide new users around the website layout they're just like "uww what can we POSSIBLY do?? all these new people only know twitter and they couldn't possibly read a popup explaining how to use the site!! let's just change everything visually appealing about tumblr to cater to our inability to make popups for helpful reasons uwu!!".
like you know what i want? If you're testing a change on me I want a pop up that says so. I don't want to have to rely on the @changes blog to see that. If i'm testing a change I should be given a feedback form that is specifically about that change. I want the results of the feedback forms for changes to be publicly viewable to the userbase. you could learn so much about how this website actually functions for users through that, but no. we can only make popups when it fiscally benefits us! we can't use polls to get a sense of what the userbase is feeling! we can't publicize what % of feedback about a change was positive or negative. we couldn't...possibly...

I feel kind bad that I haven't been making as much art I used to - specifically illustrations since I know most people followed me for those;;;
BUT I learned the hard way that if I try to do personal illustration on top of my existing work I end up physically injuring my hand :') (which is part of why drawings have been sparse lately. I'm still recovering ghjkgd)
HOWEVER, I'm still channeling my creativity in other ways!
I'm part of an ongoing Beam Saber TTRPG podcast and you can see a bunch of art I made for it HERE
I'm working on making my Celestial series FREE to download as hi-res print files on my website
I'm running a devlog of my game developer work at @figminxr
AND I'm running community events in the Figmin XR discord server
SO if you've been curious what I've been up to lately, it's mostly been all that stuff ⬆

The worst thing about turning 18 is watching your advertisement algorithm change. The day after I turned 18 I started getting Tinder ads. Hell, I just started getting gambling Spotify ads! Have I had any interest in gambling? No! Is it because I am impressionable and young and could potentially sink thousands of dollars in their shitty sports gambling scheme? Yes! I despise it.

I said this to a Darkmagyk last night and I feel like it deserves a wider audience:
Sometimes I think phones should have a feature where when you go to read the comments the battery discharges into your hands so you don't do it.

even visiting linkdin makes me feel slimy. Why is everyone over there trying way too hard to manufacture professionalism like it isn't just a self-serving game that unintelligent out-of-touch CEOs play to amuse themselves instead of actually getting work done. Like no tell me more about how hustle you culture, I'm enthralled. I logged in for 5 minutes to submit a job application and saw a post complaining about how companies hire smart people instead of hard workers. Excuse me—what world are these people even living in??? I've never had a company notice my GPA. My degree is less than worthless. Nobody cares that I've run successful businesses or speak several languages and I don't care about playing along with their stupid game. I have been laughed at in an interview for explaining that my farm work experience showed good work ethic. They will hire a charismatic teen boy off the street just because he can make eye contact and I'll keep failing every automated personality test until I end up on the street.

I get it's a thing to get seen in this Internet hellscape but goodness one of the easiest ways to get a block from me is to intentionally tag something that has nothing to do with what you're posting about in order to get hits/eyes on what you're doing. Not even "oh if you like this, you might like this", just "here's a thing I made, here's a bunch of unrelated fandoms so this shows up in unrelated tags."

Well since Twitter is officially going to shit, and that means this is my only other social media app I feel comfortable using to get content, like this post or interact with it if you like and post content about:
Young Royals (the cast and the show)
Heartstopper (the cast, the comic, and the show)
I'm basic so that's gonna be about it so far lol thanks!

If you could give a single piece of advice to new people in the roleplay community, what would it be?
I did write a guide a few years back that has really resonated with people, so most of my advice for new folks is there!
I'm a bit late to replying to this anon, since you've been going around in some of my circles, and a lot of folks said some really good stuff! So if I were to add anything...
The Tumblr RPC at the end of the day is social media. Expanding the first point of my guide, starting roleplay on tumblr is NOT like joining a forum or joining a designated discord server.
More likely than not, forums and servers will welcome new folks– or at least acknowledge your presence so you can feel more at ease when finding your footing in the community. While tumblr you have to put in a lot effort to make people care about your character and your writing. Especially if you're writing an oc / original character.
How I suggest doing so is written in depth in the post I linked, but what it boils down to is making your presence known by reaching out to people, writing drabbles / headcanons if there's a lack of threads, and being active the best you can when you're just starting out. Because basically you'll curating a social media platform, much like you.tube, insta.gram, tw.itter, etc, but curating in favor of rp. Which sounds daunting, but isn't too bad once you find your people here.
If there's anything I can clarify more on this, or my linked post, I'd be happy to answer!
