Fun Mimic Fact of the Day: Mimics are a lot more intelligent than most people give them credit. Especially the zoologists who are adamant on defending the specialised animal vs folklore beast theory.
Sure, there is an argument to be had that some species of primates, octopi, dolphins and parrots are good examples of animals displaying higher problem solving capabilities, as well as an awareness of language and cooperation within an established "society/social group". Giving some credence to the hypothesis.
But these examples still lack the refinement and sense of awareness that a mimic displays when comfortable among humans.
This is what convinces those who work with mimics more personally that they are, in fact, fae and not mere animals. Especially when working in railways that are in favour of conservation efforts (the NWR being a prime example), or within households that have had one vehicle mimic for generations.
People who have a lot of contact with mimics (especially older/elderly ones), will notice mannerisms and actions that surpass basic animal intellect or even acts of mimicry.
Here are a few examples:
Charlie Sand and Sidney Hever participate in a children's reading program at the library. They have both witnessed Edward (who they loan to the library in his smaller form so that children with learning disabilities and speech impediments have the opportunity to read to him) not only speaking in clear English, but also read paragraphs when the child that is meant to be reading to him can't seem to pronounce the words.
Sir Topham Hatt has watched Glynn work the kettle and prepare himself tea, as well as help himself to the radio when he's had to work from home.
The station-masters have noticed that, whenever they forget to feed the various cats that linger around the various stations around the island, someone comes in and does it for them (leaving behind a trail of opened cat food bags and cans). They can't be sure, but they have their suspicions that Gordon might be the one picking up their slack, because the cats all come to greet him when he comes by as if he were one of them.
The Duke and Duchess of Boxford once gave Spencer some old newspapers for him to entertain himself (thinking he'd just rip them up and roll around on the shredded paper) only to find someone had filled in all the crosswords and cut out sections of the funnies or interesting articles.
Hiro appears to know sign language. At the very least, he seems to use his paws to make very defined gestures when interacting with his crew. Whether or not this is a form of mimic dialect or Japanese sign language is currently unknown, since very few people on Sodor knows how to speak Japanese much less know JSL.
Mimics who participated in the war efforts both recognize and understand military slang and morse code. Flying Scotsman appears to be in the habit of using morse code to grumble about British Rail's incompetence, something which seems to amuse the occasional veteran that take his train to Vicarstown.

[October 2022]
It's been already 7 months since the first case of an unknown disease attacked the island of Sodor.
It all started at the Brendam Docks. Carly was the first one who showed symptoms, even though no one knew how or when did she got infected, every engine went crazy when they knew about it.
Knowing that the Brendam Docks are a place where many engines go during their jobs. The collective panic was totally understandable. Everyone could be infected!
And it all went worse when they knew about Cranky and Porter being infected too.
Engines were also vulnerable.
Salty was moved again to the quarry to prevent his own infection. (He hated this)
But this decision only spread the disease more and more. Salty already seemed to be a carrier when he was transferred, but he didn't show symptoms until a couple of months later.
And thanks to Mavis infecting Thomas, who appeared to be asymptomatic, within a few days more than a quarter part of Sodor's engines were infected, the railway had been temporally closed, and no one knew what was going on.
Now, at the Steamworks, Victor and Kevin were trying to take care of Charlie, Rosie, Ben and Belle. They started showing symptoms a month ago, and since then, they stayed at the Steamworks with a daily check.
Charlie, even though he was the less healthy one, was still the one who smiled the most. Probably because Kevin stayed with him all day.
Victor told him many times not to do that, because he could get infected. But Kevin didn't seemed to care much for that. He just wanted to make his friend happy during all his suffering.
But one day. Charlie's health got even worse.
A strange red liquid started coming out of his funnel, eyes, nose and mouth, and the only thing he could do was crying and whimpering of pain.
Kevin felt very helpless when he realized that he couldn't do anything to help him. So he decided just to stay with the young steamie.
It looked like all his effort was making Charlie get better. Because in a week, he started feeling good, the bleeding stopped and he started smiling again.
Victor felt very proud of his apprentice, he had no idea what Kevin did. But he was about to ask him to do it with the rest of the engines to heal them.
Until the next morning...
------------------------------------------------------
Kevin woke up and, as usual, ran towards Charlie to greet him. But something was wrong with him that day. As soon as Kevin approached to him and his wheels touched Charlie's, he felt they were cold.
Innocently, Kevin ran inside his shed, grabbed the blanket he always slept with and covered Charlie with it. But he was still cold.
The sound of Kevin's wheels coming and going woke up Victor.
-What are you doing with those blankets Kevin?- Victor asked with a soft sleepy voice.
The young golden crane turned back to him and smiled.
-Charlie needs to be warmed up. I felt his wheels, they were as cold as snow!- he giggled.
The green-eyed engine smiled proudly.
-Aww, that's so nice from you. Go ahead then- He chuckled while going back into his shed.
Kevin, his crew and some of the workers started covering the young violet engine in blankets. Then, Kevin flatted his wheels, laying down next to his friend.
-Don't worry Charlie. You will be better so soon.- He whispered trying not to wake him up.
------------------------------------------------------
A couple of hours later, one of the workers approached to the violet engine, ready to check him.
-Charlie?- He softly patted his siding. This always woke him up. But this time, nothing but silence came from him.
-Hey! I think something's wrong with this one!- The worker called Kevin's crew, Paul and Gunter.
The golden crane also woke up.
-Is Charlie still asleep?- He yawned as he straightened his wheels.
Paul seemed to be in a complete state of shock.
Charlie's driver and fireman were on the verge of tears.
-L-Let's just go get Victor okay buddy?- Gunter stuttered while he got in Kevin's cabin.
-Is Charlie okay? What's going on? I wanna be with him if something happens!- The small crane asked starting to get more and more worried.
His driver practically ignored his questions and ran to call Victor and his crew, leaving Kevin away from his friend.
-Gunter? Hey!! Please come back! Don't leave me here! Please! i wanna be with Charlie!- His jade eyes sparkled full of tears of desesperation. The only thing he could do was to shake forwards and backwards, but as no one was on his cabin, he couldn't go anywhere. Whichwas probably intentional.
Kevin saw in complete confusion how Paul and Gunter talked to eachother...how Charlie's driver cried on his mate's shoulder... how Victor's crew ant the rest of workers shaked Charlie, trying to wake him up...
And Victor... He saw his mentor how he never had seen him before...
His shocked expression... how he wasn't able to move or do anything... Victor seemed to be dissapointed on himself... Mad at himself... Wanting to scream... But wating to cry at the same time...
A mix of horrible emotions he'd never felt before, and wouldn't ever wanted to feel.
Suddenly, they heard one of the workers who was checking the violet engine saying...
-He... He's gone...-
...
The whole place was silent...
Even the other sick engines turned to look at them.... Some in shock... Some in confusion...
-No... No that's impossible!- Victor protested. -Engines don't die! Only being scrapped can kill us!-
«Kill...? Is... Is Charlie... Is he dead...?» Kevin thought before he started sobbing.
-I'm sorry Victor... But it looks like that's what happened...- Victor's fireman softly said. -Charlie's not with us anymore...-
-No! NO! THAT'S NOT TRUE!!!- Kevin cried. -HE'S ALIVE!!! I KNOW IT!!! HE'S JUST ASLEEP!!-
His crew approached to him and tried to calm him down and confort him.
-Sorry buddy... He will be asleep forever now...- Paul sobbed while hugging the young crane.
-We must tell Sir Topham Hatt about this... After this... Every infected engine is in risk of death...- One of the workers whispered, probably to not scare the other engines.
-How... You were perfectly fine yesterday...- Victor whispered, still unable to believe what happened.
-Let's take you back to your shed Victor...- His driver sighed.
------------------------------------------------------
Later that day, Victor saw many engines arriving at the steamworks.
Edward, Philip, Thomas...
The most close ones to Charlie showed up to see him for the last time.
Victor stayed in his shed, staring at the violet engine's corpse the whole morning. Till an old friend surprised him with a visit.
-Oh, hello Victor. I have heard what happened this morning. I am so sorry for that...-
The jade-eyed engine looked up, seeing anything else than a big dark-blue engine. It was Hiro.
-Hello Hiro...- Victor sighed. He wasn't in the best mood to talk at that moment. But he appreciated Hiro too much to tell him to leave him alone.
Hiro flatted his wheels while trying to find a good way to confort his friend.
-Hey... I know you... And i know you are blaming yourself for this... But it is not your fault at all.- Hiro said with a soft tone.
-That's the problem!- Victor exclaimed. -I've done everything good and he died anyway!-
-You did as much as you could. Victor, you were not ready for this. None of us are.- The grey-eyed engine answered.
The garnet engine leaned against the Japanese's side and sobbed.
-He was fine yesterday Hiro... He was laughing... Just like before the infection... And now... We won't hear that laugh never again...- He started.
-I'm supposed to be the one who heals the engines... Not the one who lets them die...- Hiro leaned his head on the smaller engine's forehead, while this one continued talking.
-I've failed Hiro... I've failed at the only job i had to do...- His cracking voice showed he wasn't able to talk anymore. So he just cried silently.
-You have not failed Vic... You did what you could. And you did it fine...- Hiro said while he closed his eyes. Falling asleep just like the garnet engine did as he calmed down...

1. Did Sir Topham Hatt was aware with Alfred’s behaviour. If he does what did he do to punish Alfred. (Remove his LNER and painted blue or etc?)
2. Did Alfred’s driver has same attitude as Alfred or they also pretty aware of Alfred or scare.
3. Does Sir Topham Hatt (also with his two bodyguards) have any badly injured after the Spirit War?
4.What year did Alfred start the spirit war (was it around 1925 or around 1923?)
5. When was Henry received number 3? After Gordon arrived on Sodor or before that.
1. Yes, the Fat Controller was aware of Alfred’s behaviour, which became more apparent when the Air spirit mocked Gordon for mourning the deaths of his original crew. The most that the Fat Controller could do after he insult Gordon and his late crew was not only remove his LNER and paint him blue, but also place an unknown curse on him that would seal his mouth shut if he spoke ill of Gordon’s original crew again.
2. Thankfully no, Alfred’s crew did not have the same attitude as the Earth Spirit. They were definitely unnerved by him and his sociopathic behaviour but it did not stop them from spying on Alfred for the other spirits who were fighting against him. Both of them are considered heroes in the Spirit War and are still alive from this day.
3. His two bodyguards do have a few scars from the Spirit War. But the Hatt family was hidden away by Edward, Gordon and Henry in an unknown place on the island to keep them safe from Alfred, no one actual knows where they were sent to until they were brought back at the end of the Spirit War and Sir Topham Hatt, along with his family are all sworn to secrecy about their hiding place.
4. Hmm… In this AU, Thomas had arrived to Sodor after all of the spirits were already on the island like in the Adventure Begins and as he said it: “I found myself caught in the middle of a war.” So like in Thomas1Edward2Henry3’s vids, Alfred started the war in late 1923 and it was around early-mid 1924 when Thomas was brought to Sodor.
5. After Gordon arrived. Henry earned the number 3 when he managed to bring express coaches full of passengers to safety during a monster attack and fight said monster despite the near constant pain he was in due to his old vessel’s poor design. Unfortunately this also placed him on Alfred’s kill list and led to Crovan’s death.

Ok ok, so I will post this early
So if you dont gets about my hcs about James
He is the "servant of Lady"
Which means he is powerful more than anyone else, the reason why is because , when James was at the steam works after the "runaway accident". When he woke up he was suddenly in a different dimension, and saw none other then Lady herself. Lady comforts James and tells him that everything is alright and after that they got along.after that Lady decided to gives James an extra 2 abilities since she knows that James is worthy of holding three powers at once. Also he only has one ability and that is the "shadow technique"
Lady gives James "fire ability/Pyrokinesis, and therianthropy"
The reason for the fire ability/Pyrokinesis is because James got almost burned, so lady decided to give him fire ability so he could not die easily at fires
For the therianthropy ability, is an unknown reason, lady didn't say anything about why did she gave James this abilitiy, but she simply said it was for James protection at night time.
His left arm has an black armband for remembrance, so if lady will visit sodor and sees the black armband, she will know immediately that it's James.

Here see? :D
Anyways explanation number 2:
The "Laurio" middle name explanation
The Laurio in his name dosent actually belongs to him, nor his parents, it actually belongs to my OC characters "Misora Laurio, and Emper Jay Laurio"
Story:
While James was getting bullied at school at a young age, Emper saved James from being bullied, and they both became best friends, and Emper introduced his younger sibling to James, Misora. After that all of them got along.
One day they decided to declare themselves as siblings (one piece reference), but James didn't say that to his mother, untill he grow up. James added the Laurio to his name
Not to mention James moved to sodor or north western railway to work, but they still talk when James came to visit his old railway "L&YR"
so now that will be it so I hope you understand, questions are allowed if you don't get it!

New Ttte Fusion AU: Protocol 4774
GUESS WHAT BITCHES???? IT'S THE GORDON-TOBY FUSION CHARACTER YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR, IT'S ROBERT!!!!!!
(All thanks to @jessythebunny for giving me this wonderful idea to create this wonderful character)
Lore:
Robert was initially created during a natural disaster on Sodor, specifically a tsunami with all of the engines trying to help everybody to get to safety. Gordon and Toby almost ended up dying when saving Sir Topham Hatt's grandkids and in a last ditch attempt to save them, Lady decided to fuse the two together to make them stronger, faster and better than before.
Initially, it ended up working! Robert was able to save Stephen and Bridget Hatt and was renounced as a hero. But.....Because fusion NEVER happened in Modernly Classical or even in Classically Modern and Gordon and Toby were basically the patient zero of the whole process, Lady never figured out how to separate the two once the disaster was over.
So with Gordon's and Toby's conscious trapped in this unknown and strange body, they began to start panicking and that led to Robert embodying the two's worst flaws and faults. Becoming emotionally unstable and would often ravage through Gordon's and Toby's clothes to try and get some sort of Tobyness or Gordoness back into him.
Eventually, the two engines in Robert's body would learn how to work together and cooperate and Robert started to form his combined personality of the two.
Fun Facts!
Robert is a cheerful but serious engine who is deathly loyal to his friends and loved ones. But be careful, he can be prideful and has a sharp tongue. (So you better not insult his ass) He can also be very fussy. Sometimes it's cute and sometimes it's not.
He's a transgender asexual bisexual with a male preference.
He's a NSGWT Steam Tram (It's a placeholder, let me know if there are other classes that can be used for him)
He is very protective of his coaches, that includes the Express coaches and Henrietta. Really likes to shunt his own coaches but refuses to let anybody else do it because they'll "damage them". Henry is unfortunate enough to get slapped in the face or by the wrist by Robert every time he approaches the coaches. (On Robert's defense: Henry is an ass shunter)
If Robert get injured, the pain is felt both through Gordon and Toby.
When Robert speaks, his voice is a combined voice of Gordon's and Toby's voice. Toby and Gordon are able to take full control of Robert's body whenever they need to. When Toby is in control, Robert's eyes turn completely brown and his voice and mannerisms are more akin to Toby. When Gordon is in control, Robert's eyes are completely blue instead. (Think of Ying and Yang from II)
Has two nicknames. Robby for when Toby is in control and Robertson when Gordon is in control.

Te's Narrow-Gauge Ships in a Nutshell
Skarloey x Neil (Neilloey):
Starcrossed lovers who decided to call themselves married the night before one of them disappears during the war. Skarloey and Neil had always been close, ever since Skarloey had arrived on Sodor. When WWI broke out, the two decided to be married, with their loving crews tying ropes around their buffers in an approximation of handfasting as Robert Sam officiated their ceremony. They promised each other that they would live through the war, but even though they both did, once the war ended, Neil's whereabouts were unknown. Luckily for both of them, Neil had ended up in the back of an abandoned warehouse, and through a series of connections, is unearthed in the modern day. He's taken by the SR, restored, and finally, FINALLY, Skarloey has his other half back, the only engine other than Rheneas he can be vulnerable around, the one who grounds him when he gets bouncy, the one who feeds into all of his schemes and jokes. Neil is grounding; easy-going; calm, kind, and collected; and just what Skarloey needs when he doesn't need to FIX the problem--just vent about it. Skarloey, for his part, is sprightly, energetic, insightful, and clever, and Neil always appreciates the joy that Skarloey brings to each and every day. His laughter colors Neil's entire world, and being back together gives them both a sense of rightness that they were both deeply missing. Expanded Neilloey thoughts here!
Rheneas x Stepney (Rhenney):
Lovers who could never last. They met in the summer of 1962 when Stepney came to Sodor and Rheneas had gotten back from the works. Stepney had just been entered into preservation and was being paraded as a mascot; Rheneas had just returned to his railway after being overhauled. Both of them feel like fish out of water; for Rheneas, the last time the line was this nice was when it was new, almost 100 years ago, and he's never had permanent co-workers before. He's home, but... home is more crowded than he remembers. Stepney gets that; for Stepney, he's not used to being on such a short line. There's a sense of adjustment that they're both struggling to navigate, and with Stepney being on Sodor, the two of them finding another engine that they can deeply relate to in this way is incredibly meaningful. It's not hard to fall in love with the other, really; they mirror each other, a standard-gauge engine out of place among his fellows, a narrow-gauge engine feeling the same. The right place at the right time. But it could never last, could never be anything more than a sweet summer fling; Stepney can't stay, and Rheneas can't leave. But for that one sweet summer, they have found their other halves, and that summer will remain etched in their minds forever, captured only in the letters that their supportive drivers pen on their behalf. This is the relationship most likely to be queerplatonic versus romantic, but I do rather like the extra layer that the romance adds, particularly if Rheneas only realizes it's love while listening to his driver read Stepney's letters and hearing the adoration buried in between the lines.
Sir Handel x Peter Sam:
Wholesome lovers who are one specific flavor of the grumpy one loves the sunshine trope, but also have depth beyond that. These two are quite sweet together--even as they're teasing each other about their various upgrades, Sir Handel can also be vulnerable around Peter Sam and knows that he can trust him with his life. He can trust Peter Sam with his vulnerabilities and fears. If he's being serious, Peter Sam won't laugh or put him down. He'll just listen and support him. And for Peter Sam, he loves Sir Handel because despite Sir Handel's arrogance and ego getting in his way (even if it eases up later), Peter Sam can see the good in him. The pride that pushes him. The ability to admit and reflect on his mistakes. The willingness to learn from other engines, such as Skarloey. The desire to do well even when he claims he hates working (and frankly, I don't think he does; I do think that as the former express engine of the Mid-Sodor, he's fearful of messing up at the beginning and lets his preconceptions about what he should be able to do override the reality of having to navigate a new railway, new coaches, and new coworkers, so because he doesn't want to fail, he claims he doesn't want to work. Plus, he has a deep-seated need to feel important, to feel like he's a necessary part of the railway, and in his mind, pulling trucks is not conducive to that). Peter Sam has seen him become a better engine over the course of their tenure at the Skarloey Railway, and he absolutely loves that about him.
Rusty x Duncan:
Another flavor of grumpy/sunshine, but different from Sir Handel and Peter Sam. Rusty is calm and kind and has a heart of gold, as well as a strong work ethic. Duncan, of course, is rude and brash and prickly. However, once Duncan overcomes his initial distrust of Rusty, I feel that they warm up to each other quite quickly. Rusty makes Duncan feel safe in a way that he's not quite used to, but can't get enough of. He's the odd one out on the Skarloey for multiple reasons, including his factory work and the fact that he's not from Sodor, but being around Rusty makes him think that such things don't really matter nearly as much as he'd thought. He can let his guard down around Rusty; with the little diesel, he can rest. As for Rusty, I think Duncan is their closest friend in a lot of ways. Skarloey and Rheneas have been running the railway by themselves for so long, and are mentor figures to all the younger engines on the railway (including these two). Sir Handel and Peter Sam knew each other long before coming to the SR. Thus, Rusty and Duncan are the two "new engines" on the block, and this brings them closer together. Rusty also loves how fiercely Duncan both loves and lives his life, and while he can certainly be grumpy, Rusty is the only one privileged enough to see his softer side.
Duke x Stanley (Smudger in the TVS):
Another doomed love, with the potential of a redemption arc. I have often imagined that Stanley's attitude toward carelessness and spills concealed worries of inadequacy, but the Mid-Sodor management decided to give a rather draconian punishment for his actions, and he ended up abandoned in a flooded mine. Stanley was remorseful after he lost his wheels and was turned into a pumping engine, and if able to be rescued, I can imagine him trying to repair his relationship with Duke, especially if Duke was initially against him for his apparent carelessness. However, after seeing the Mid-Sodor's punishment for him and seeing how his defiant personality softened into something more genuine and remorseful, Duke decided to try getting along with Stanley and would ask to be parked near the shed so that Stanley would be less alone. After a few years of late-night talks, they became incredibly close, with Duke appreciating Stanley as an equal rather than him being another granchuff like Sir Handel and Peter Sam. It was only after Stanley was put in the mine that Duke realized the extent of his feelings for the other engine, but by then, it was far too late. It was only thanks to fate's meddling that the two were reunited in the 1970s, with Stanley barely able to believe that Duke remembered him, much less petitioned the management of the SR to rescue him. Duke's granchuffs, of course, know full well how much of a stubborn bulldog Duke can be when it comes to not letting go of his loved ones, so really, this is par for the course. But either way, Stanley is mistrustful of the SR and everyone on it at first, butting heads with some of the more fiery personalities, but once it becomes clear that the SR really is as much of a found family as they seem, he finds himself being dragged along by their pace until he feels right at home. What Duke loves about Stanley is that he brings out Duke's less elegant side. With Stanley, he can laugh loudly and let loose in a way that he's not comfortable doing in front of most others. He takes great pride in his knowledge of etiquette and elegance, to the point that it can be hard to bond with others when they want to be more casual, but with Stanley, it feels easy. He's seen the real Stanley, beneath all the bluster, and finds that this is an engine that he can truly be comfortable around. For Stanley, Duke is his confidante, his closest friend, the one who always cared about him even when he was at his worst. He didn't see Stanley's punishment and think that he deserved it; he saw Stanley's punishment and was compassionate instead.

Finally came up with my own monster engine design.
Of course I have to credit @steam-beasts for their awesome monster engines.
My steam monsters are herbivores, usually taking on a more horse or bovine features. Some will have long silky tails while others are cow like. They have hoof claws to help move across terrain and climb hills. The narrow gauges on Sodor have claws instead of the combo due to working in the mountains.
I'm still debating on either having the diesels being reptilian or mammal predators.
Coal, water, and oil are used to help the engines sweat and give them an energy boost.
Gordon is a half bred. This means one parent was one vehicle and the other was a different vehicle.
Half- breds can aquire a unique gene that can mutate them into the non inherited parent's vehicle. It's rare to happen.
In this monster engine au Gordon's mother was the RMS Olympic, father is unknown but definitely a steam locomotive.
For the ocean liners they often disregarded their baby if it wasn't born as a ship, thus the company they worked under would sell the pup. Olympic wanted to keep Gordon and tried to hide him along with Nomadic's help but it didn't work and he was taken and sold to Sit Nigel Gresley and later Sir Topham Hatt.
However, unbeknownst to the Fat Controller, that mutation gene is active in Gordon and is slowly changing him into an ocean liner. He's already experiencing some changes such as his tail looking like that of a whale, hair growing on his head, and his flat herbivore teeth falling out and being replaced with killer whale looking teeth.

On the mechanics of faces on vehicles and the importance of intent/will.
Merry Christmas from the past/future !I wanted to share an ADHD medication induced long-post inspired by the infamous mechanics of two-faced engines debate, which has existed since the dawn of the internet Thomas fandom.
This work was also inspired by the works of @mean-scarlet-deceiver and @joezworld, thank you for sharing your works with us and for being such inspirations !
(This is my first post on TTTE-blr, but I have lurked for many years and often assist with ideas for Carsons Video Workshop along with my own rarely (but hopefully soon to be) surfacing projects.)
As a note, I will be dividing the "types of sentient life" using the terms that vehicles use. Vehicles (unless they are particularly snooty) don't use the word "human", in their eyes: we are "people." "Vehicles" is used as a catch-all in this post (and by the universe's more bureaucratically-minded) but this term is generally rarely used in their everyday speech (vehicles like being specific), and they will generally specify themselves as Engines, Cars, Lorrys, Boats, etc.
In my mind the mechanics of faces in this world are a matter of intent (for the people) along with activity and will (for the vehicles themselves).
The faces being present in general im going to consider a type of "magic" or an unknown "spiritual" quantity, it was not intended when originally developing vehicles, but became the norm, a "happy accident".independently achieved by many engineers in the early industrial era (Trevithick, in particular, was especially excited. In the proper way of a gentleman at the time, of course). Vehicles without faces are rarer than those with. It is however sadly becoming more common that vehicles do not awaken with a personality, this is mostly in the motoring industry with Tesla in particular having a high failure rate in having any of their creations "come to life." (It seems the very universe wants to bring Mr. Musk down a peg, but I digress.)
Its something that happens without prompt, the faces look like they "fade" into existence the first time they're activated after assembly.
(This isnt an exact science either, some awaken before completion which makes a bit of a headache for those actually constructing them, see: Henry I, but his whole existence was a headache from the drawing stages.)
A vehicle is generally thought the specifc facets of their work once put into service but vehicles built with specific jobs or duties in mind almost seem to just _know the basics by default_ it seems the intent of the people bringing them to life is a huge factor on the mentality of a vehicle (which is probably a large reason why the diesels of the modernisation era are so toxic towards anything seen as "behind the times" but this can be and often is unlearned with time.)
The position of an engines face also isn't an exact science, its almost like "fate" in a way, it tends to wind up as suspiciously appropriate for the events that take place in a vehicles life. The appearences of their faces can also be influenced by the state of mind of the vehicle. Their developing personalities generally manifest overtime as facial hair, scars, wrinkles etc. (Vehicles dont get injured in the way people do. Much damage can be repaired without problem but mental scars and traumas can become visible as what would be recognised as a scar in the human sense while actual wounds and any tangible physical damage to the face is extremely rare.)
(The tangibility of vehicle faces will probably end up as a post by itself.)
How much a vehicles face displays age is down to personality, history, intent and circumstance also, this is why Sudrian vehicles especially tend to retain a youthful appearance even into their centuries, see: The bulk of the Skarloey engines and Edward while the likes of Iron Duke and Sodor's (The) Duke display features humans would associate with their equivalent age.
Now cases of vehicles with "multiple" faces are an enigma to us people but are not unusual in vehicle culture
The most common types of vehicles with "multiple" faces are those that can be driven from either end, your Tobys and most modern Diesels, much of the time the engine can "will" themselves to always operate from the side they're active in, their face fades out (like when an engines personality "dies" during scrapping, another post for the future.) and appears on the active end, but this is situational, it takes a level of practice and effort ! Diesel Locos (returning to the idea of manufacturing intent) generally have an easier time of this than other types like Garrats, Fairles or Trams. (Yes, fairles, Mighty-Mac (and Little Giant) are outliers, almost the engine equivalent of a DID system)
But this is also subject to curcumstance.
When it comes to Sodor for example BoCo and Bear can "switch" with little effort, while Toby who had access to either a turntable or a friend and or wife (Henrietta) to keep watch for most of his life, finds it takes considerably more effort, therefore only does it rarely. Derek's type also has mild difficulty performing "switches" but this is mostly seen as another in a long line of issues in the Class 17s, Derek has improved at this in his time on Sodor both with the modifications from Crovans Gate giving him more energy and practice .
Daisy is a law unto herself, she has the ability but she characteristically considers "switching" as a waste of effort therefore the "bad for my swerves" argument is often trumpeted and nobody has the energy to dispute her on it when there are many more important battles to be fought regarding what her "fitter" may or may not have said.
The Mountain Engines seem to be the only "traditional looking single cabbed vehicle" whos entire type are known to be able to perform switches, this is another result of manufacturing intent it seems, (and yet another miracle performed by the Sweeds when creating the rack railway system as we know it) and are able to "switch" to their active side with the same ease that most Diesel locos can.
When vehicles arent in active work or under strain they are able to perform what railway workmen on steam engines from the early days coined as a "Cleaning Fade." (this term was adopted for all sentient vehicles despite, the "cleaning" part being generally irrelevant for most types) the vehicle's face is willed to fade away to naught but a "ghostly" impression in order to give access to any doors or hatches placed beneath for the purposes of maintenance, their personalities are still active and aware and can still converse among people and their comrades, seeing their expressions in these instances takes concentration however (vehicles find it quite a bit easier than people do).

Scenes from 'This is Sodor: The Iron Age'/Calling All Engines humanized: Diesel Gets Defenestrated

The Tidmouth Gazette reports:
CHAOS AT KNAPFORD
Tensions between steam and diesel locomotives are set to escalate from this latest incident from the so called ‘Sodor Airport Conflict’. Main heavy fast goods locomotive, ex-(railway of origin unknown)Stanier Black Five NWR#3 ‘Henry’ was captured on photograph defenestrating ex-BR Class 08 ‘Diesel’ from a station window into a pit of mud after the former engine was humiliated by ex-BR Sodor Ironworks Class 08 shunters ‘Iron ‘Arry’ and ‘Bert’, when they assaulted him and doused him in oil in an earlier incident of violence on our fair Island home…’
"But for a few bruises and a besmirched outfit, he was unharmed'
"This is merely the latest incident of steam-diesel violence which includes; the aforementioned dousing in oil, ex-GNR NWR #7 steam tram "Toby" being hung up by the ankles from a loading ramp by Diesel, ex-LB&SC shunter NWR #1 "Thomas" getting doused in paint by Diesel (the triggering incident of the conflict), 'Arry getting shoved onto gravel by Thomas and ex-L&Y Class 28 NWR #5 "James" being grabbed and thrown under a coal hopper where he was subsequently buried in coal. His outfit was besmirched but he was otherwise unharmed.'
"It is to the shame of the NWR that we on fair Sodor should witness the type of mindless violence plaguing the Mainland in imitation of the conflicts between the youth cults of Mods, Rockers, Teddy Boys and Skinheads, particularly from our naughty engines. It behooves Sir Topham Hatt to quell the violence and restore order before it spreads out of control..."

"The Tidmouth Gazette with the kind permission of the Daily Mirror has printed this invaluable guide to the youth cults from which the engines are patterning their style and dress."

Why do I keep adding to my bizarre AU(Hero Factory and the Magic Railroad). WHY?! This AU doesn’t need to exist anymore but here we are. This should probably end up being an extremely late April Fools joke. Me continuing this may be a result of the last leg of the semester draining my brain cells into the negatives. Eventually this may become a hilarious rabbit hole like the TTTE monster engine AU(that AU is actually really cool).
I gotta admit. I’ve seen some really strange crossovers with HF. I’ve seen transformers, and even random anime shows of all things(I don't watch anime idk). Even lego mixels too. Then there’s bionicle which actually makes sense. A lot of these AUs I have seen are on DeviantArt. I’m actually curious about everyone else’s AUs if they have any.
For Flying Scotsman’s sake, this is so stupid. 🤣
General Worldbuilding:
- The magic buffers are an interdimensional portal to the Island of Sodor. The unknown location of the buffers are in one of the many sealed off mines in the area, surrounded by tight spaces, rusted rails, and sinkholes. Not to mention, it’s as dark as outer space(but nobody knows that yet). For years, they had been dismissed as a local myth, started by engineers who worked on the railroads long ago.
- Some say it only appears during the Gold Dust Eclipse, an event seen in Makuhero City every few years. Citizens call it that because the eclipse casts light beams that seem to reflect golden particles in the sky.
- Locals believe that the magic buffers are located somewhere by a cluster of abandoned railroads where a thick forest had grown. It’s settled in a sizable quarry, surrounded by hills, old mines, caves, and other obstacles that make it hard for urban explorers to investigate the area.
- The legend states that the buffers are associated with a ghost train. Most say the name of the engine is Lady.
- The gold dust emitted from the eclipse has never been studied in depth.
- Being curious, the rookies go exploring during the eclipse to see if the legend of the magic buffers is real. When totality reaches, they’re transformed into steam locomotives. And they suspect that the magic buffers are behind this, even though they never found them.
- The rest of the Alpha Team notice how long their rookies have been gone for and decide to look for them. Just before totality ends, they too are transformed.
- Mr. Makuro says that it's possible that the Heroes are stuck being engines until the next eclipse.
- Even when they’re steam engines, Zib still has to care for his Heroes. Until they’re able to find the magic buffers, the members of the “Alpha Steam Team” are hidden amongst the quarry’s railways. So, Zib basically has to learn to be a railway controller until he and Mr. Makuro figure out how to turn the Heroes back.
- It is observed that each of them are engines built for a specific purpose. Each Hero has to learn how to operate as a locomotive in the meantime since they can’t go catch villains. The engine Heroes are instructed to not leave the forest or go looking for the buffers. The dangerous terrain and old railways can pose a danger to them. But they can’t just sit around. They somehow have to be really useful engines.
That’s what I got so far, good grief.
Headcanons:
In engine form, the Heroes cannot completely tap into their elemental powers. All of that is placed on the backburner.
When Stormer gets upset, he wheeshes steam in the form of frost.
Surge isn’t an electric train, but his elemental power still gives him a speed boost.
Furno’s firebox can light faster and produce a stronger fire.
Breez is a lot more aerodynamic despite not being a streamlined engine.
Stringer has the loudest whistle on the team.
Bulk is the strongest on a physical standpoint(he is a union pacific big boy afterall)
Nex is able to preserve a lot more water.
Rocka has a better chance of smashing through solid objects that obstruct the railroad. Is it smart? No. But it’s what he does.
Evo is really useful when it comes to traversing railroads on more threatening terrain out in nature. He is really good at mapping out the area and memorizing the paths.
Keep Evo away from the turntable, even if it's on an abandoned railroad. Turntables are not rollercoasters.
The Heroes are actually hidden from public view in the forest. Hero Factory forces closed off the area to keep people from messing with the railway.
Breez and Surge like to race sometimes.
Rocka likes his shiny and golden paintwork but he’s not as secure about it as James is.
Their paintwork represents their elemental power.
The HF symbol is painted on their tenders. If without a tender, it’s on the side of their cabs.
Stormer was NOT very fond of being kept away from missions but he slowly got used to being a locomotive. He’s still very reluctant to follow orders. He doesn’t like being confined to the forest and wishes to explore the railroad.
Bulk likes to show off how many railcars he can pull.
Zib and Quadal had to do too much research for this. When Zib first saw the Heroes, it took him more than a few moments to realize what he was looking at.

Day 27-Thomas and the Rocket Sled
Traintober 2023
Other Stories
Day 27-Record Breaker
Thomas and the Rocket Sled
1979
The Island of Sodor was even busier than usual. It was the 150th anniversary of the Rain Hill Trials and a gala was being held on Sodor to celebrate.
Engines of all types from the mainland and all over the world were coming to visit.
Thomas arrived at Tidmouth Harbor one morning to collect a unique piece of rolling stock. He had been enjoying the lead-up to the gala immensely. There were so many new and strange engines and cars to meet that at times his head spun. This might have been the strangest one yet. Sitting on a special flatbed was a heavy metal frame with a seat on it. Behind the seat sat something that reminded Thomas of the jet engines on the planes at Tidmouth airport.
"It's a Rocket sled," Nicole explained as the flatbed was coupled behind Thomas. "The Americans use it to test systems for their aircraft."
"It must be very fast then," Thomas said.
Samantha snorted, "Try faster than the speed of sound. "
Thomas gave a mischievous smirk, "No one tell the Gresley's."
The engineers in charge of the rocket sled were ensuring it was properly secured, so Nicole climbed back into the cab to drink her coffee while they waited.
***
The lead engineer looked dubiously at her coworker. "John prepared it? Are you sure it's okay?"
Her coworker rolled his eyes good-humoredly, "Relax Beth, John knows what he's doing."
Beth glared, "Is that why Jasmine is regrowing half her hair?"
"Everyone makes mistakes every once in a while?" He offered unconvincingly.
She snorted, "Paul, John makes weekly mistakes. If his dad wasn't an admiral..."
"He's not that bad," he protested with a laugh.
Beth rolled her eyes, "Yes he is, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he forgot to drain the fuel."
"He didn't forget to drain the fuel, here watch."
Before Beth could stop him, "Hey Crane!" He yelled up at Cranky.
Cranky was not enjoying the preparation for the Gala. It seemed every day more ships arrived with heavy locomotives and carriages, and he was expected to unload them all. "What is it?" He snapped towards the annoying human beneath him.
"Can you flip that lever with your hook?"
Had Cranky been in a better mood, or had had more sleep, he would have questioned the wisdom of flipping a lever on an unknown machine.
As it was, he gave the equivalent of a shrug. "Sure."
The lever flipped and for a moment everything was quiet.
"See? He didn..."
Thrrrremmmmmm
***
Thomas was patiently waiting for the engineers to finish when he heard the rocket rumble to life
"Are they testing the rocket?" He asked curiously.
Nicole's head snapped around to see the glow of the rocket's exhaust as it powered on.
"Brakes!" She shouted, but it was too late.
Thomas began rolling forward as the rocket pushed him, faster and faster.
Samantha slammed on the brakes, but they quickly proved no match for the rocket's power.
Thomas whistled in alarm to the signal mam as he was pushed out of the docks and onto the mainline.
The signal men quickly threw the points and set the signals at danger. He rang control, "Clear the Mainline, we have a runaway."
***
Beth, Paul, and Cranky stared as the tank engine and sled raced out of view.
"Uh...oops?"
Paul winced as Beth slowly turned to glare at him.
***
Thomas shot through Tidmouth Station, whistling as loudly as he could, startling James and Henry who were waiting with their trains.
Samantha released his brakes, realizing they could do nothing against the rocket but wear out.
Nicole hung on desperately as Thomas rocketed around the bend through Lower Tidmouth.
"Ooooooohhhh Lady!" Thomas cried as his speedometer broke 100 miles per hour, suddenly very grateful that Crovan's Gate had fit him with roller bearings. He would have worn through his old ones!
***
Percy had having a nice quiet morning when he heard Thomas. He had been taking a drink from the water tower when he heard the frantic whistling, and behind it, a dull roar.
"What in the name of..."
Thomas blasted past, the flyers on the station board flying from the force of his passing.
Percy sat there a long moment.
"It's too early for this."
"It's nearly tea time," his driver said.
"It's too early for this."
***
Several miles down the track Bertie heard Thomas's whistle rapidly approaching in the distance. "Wanna race Thomas?" He called eagerly.
Thomas roared past, whistling furiously.
"Never mind," Bertie said quietly.
***
Gordon was racing towards Wellsworth with the express when the radio in his cab went off.
Rain answered it.
"There's a runaway on track 3," she called out to Gordon and Amanda, "They'll overtake us soon."
Amanda smirked, "oh will they?" She said as she opened Gordon's regulator.
Gordon chuckled and surged ahead, even since he had been rebuilt back into a 3-cylinder in 72, he had taken every chance he could to test his speed.
As Rain shoveled coal like a woman possessed, Amanda watched the Speedometer creep up, smirking when it broke 100 mph.
Gordon however, frowned as he heard the runaway's whistle in the distance.
"Is that...Thomas?"
Rain snorted, "Don't be silly."
But it was.
Thomas raced up alongside the express coaches, he was going so fast the express seemed to be standing still.
"Hi Gordon, Bye Gordon," he managed to whistle as he shot past.
Amanda and Rain stared in shock.
"There's no way we can catch him," Amanda said in disbelief.
"But we have to try," Gordon called. He forced himself even faster, charging after the runaway No.1.
***
Finally, mercifully, the rocket ran out of fuel. Every joint and rod on Thomas ached. Even though Crovans Gates were known for over-engineering their rebuilds, Thomas was never meant to break 100, and he had far exceeded that.
To make matters worse, it had run out on Gordon's hill. Thomas wasn't sure he could make it up the hill without further damaging his motion. He rolled to a stop, panting heavily.
"Owwww." He moaned quietly.
"Are you alright?" Samantha asked, carefully setting his brakes and climbing down.
"I can't tell," Thomas winced, "maybe once everything cools down it'll be alright."
A deep whistle was heard as Gordon pulled up behind, curious passengers leaning out the window to look.
"Are any of you hurt?" The Pacific asked with concern.
"Nicole and I are alright. We're not certain about Thomas though."
"Is he well enough for me to push him up the hill?"
Thomas shifted his motion, "Probably better than rolling down."
Gordon gently buffered up and pushed Thomas and the sled up the hill to Maron station at the top, going slowly to keep from aggravating Thomas's motion
Jinx was waiting for them with a flatbed for Thomas. Gordon set off with the express again, as Thomas was loaded onto the flatbed, eager to make up the lost time.
The rocket car was left in the Marom sidings as Jinx set off for the works with Thomas.
***
The next day Gordon visited Thomas at the works as he was inspected for damage.
"So how's the new record holder?" The pacific teased.
Thomas had been lifted off of his wheels while they were inspected for damage.
He sighed in exasperation, "Not you as well."
Gordon smirked, "I'm afraid it's official."
"The steam speed record is for speed achieved under your own power," Thomas said baffled.
"Which my cousin still officially holds," Gordon agreed, "but you now hold the new record for the fastest a steam engine has traveled by rail."
Thomas stared for a moment, then groaned, "I'll never get your family to stop trying to adopt me now."
Gordon chuckled," You could just accept."
Thomas just sighed despondently.
A/N: Did I just adapt Thomas and the Jet Engine for my AU? Yes, yes I did.

So How Many Engines Does the NWR Actually Have?
Eighty, according to the Reverend Wilbert Awdry - but this includes British Rail and Industrial engines. It also seems excessive for an island the size of Sodor which has, according to TheUnluckyTug, an 87.7 odd mile mainline and another 30 odd miles of branchline, especially when compared with several other railways of similar size. I am going to warn everyone here, this post is long.
The neighbouring Furness Railway built roughly 247 engines during its lifetime, of which a good fifty-five were 'Sharpies' - however that railway had 190 miles of railway and served some of the largest steelworks and dockyards in all of England. In contrast, the Northern Counties Committee Railway in Northern Island had a maximum route mileage of around 282 miles and only 73 engines. This same NCC ran nearly half of all trains in Northern Island at the time, sharing a duopoly with the GNRI. After amalgamating together into the Northern Ireland Railways and shrinking the full network of Northern Irish railway down to 225 miles, they today run 47 locomotives.
The railway network that serves the entirety of Northern Island is bigger than Sodor in length and requires less engines. It also calls at 54 stations, in comparison to Sodor's 27 stations that the NWR serves. So, let's do some maths and logic puzzles to try and figure out how many engines the NWR actually needs to serve the Island of Sodor.
Firstly, let's look at how many the books name: eleven NWR steam locomotives, six diesel engines, one track maintenance vehicle, as well as three industrial engines and an unknown number of electric engines. This means that the Peel Godred line could have any number of engines, however we can make a reasonable estimate at two multiple units for the four stops, and two or three goods engines to look after the aluminium traffic and other goods work. That makes five engines needed for the branchline.
The Ffarquhar branchline similarly does not require that many engines. Its primary industry is the Anopha Quarry, with a number of farms making up the rest of the freight traffic the line would have. In the books, the line is run by Thomas, Percy, Toby, Daisy and Mavis - the private industrial engine who manages the quarry. This means that there is one dedicated railcar, one autotank-fitted tank engine, a tram engine, a dedicated quarry diesel and Percy to run the line. The only addition possibly required would be an engine to run dedicated stone trains from Ffarquhar to the junction or the harbour, a task that seems to already be covered by Toby, Percy and Mavis. That adds another five engines to our list of standard-gauge engines on Sodor.
Another branchline that does not need any extra engines would be the Little Western, which was only refurbished by Sir Charles Hatt to access the ballast from the old MSR mines. With Duck and Oliver running passengers, Duck managing most of the limited freight traffic that isn't ballast and Donald and Douglas covering most ballast trains, there is no need for any extra engines, and adds another four engines to our list.
After that, Edward's branchline is where we may see some additions. The branchline may be quite short, having only three stations on its route, but it also has Brendam Harbour, which is a major port for the island, as well as the China Clay Pits, which are served by Bill and Ben - the other two industrial engines mentioned in the books. They are known to shunt Brendam Harbour on occasion, while Edward and BoCo run the branchline itself, with Donald and Douglas helping. This line would need more engines as freight traffic through Brendam Docks increased, as well as a dedicated shunting engine for the harbour. That adds up to seven engines to our list to run this section of the line - being Bill, Ben, Edward, BoCo and three new helpers.
Potential candidates from the TVS for filling these roles could be: Salty, Neville, Molly or perhaps Whiff - all of whom are either shunting engines or medium-sized engines who would be able to compliment Edward and BoCo well.
After Edward's branchline, we have to talk about the Kirk Ronan and Norramby branches. The Kirk Ronan branchline has three stations, and was once part of the Sodor and Mainland Railway. We know passenger traffic is poor, and the freight traffic was solely dedicated to mineral traffic from the Skarloey Railway heading to the port. It's highly likely that this line is either kept operational for a token service, or has one engine running it. Either way, we can add one engine to the list, of whom I would suggest Arthur.
The Norramby branchline is currently served by the Other Railway, according to Awdry - this would mean multiple units running passenger trains from Barrow and potentially a freight service, though that would have likely been discontinued in the 1960's during the Beeching cuts. Currently, 26 trains operate out of Barrow up the Cumbrian Coast Line per day, while the Furness line sees roughly 24 trains per day, according to the Northern Rail Timetable. Most likely, one of these two lines would have their services extend to Norramby, meaning up to 24 trains per day for the line. However, it is highly unlikely that each train to arrive on this service is a new engine, with it being more likely to be four or five engines. This adds five engines to our list, for a current total of twenty-seven.
To this figure, we can add the Works Diesel, Bloomer, and the austerity engine referenced in 'Wilbert the Forest Engine', making thirty.
This leaves the mainline as needing 50 whole engines to reach Awdry's figure of 80 - and of this potential number, we know Henry, Gordon, James, Bear, Pip and Emma. To understand how many engines are needed, we need to understand what jobs these engines would do - of which, there is passenger trains, the express, freight trains and shunting.
If the mainline has eleven stations, 87.7 miles of track and they wanted to have a train arrive every hour to meet their Northern partners... well, they'd need more engines. It takes one hour for a train between Lancaster and Barrow - a distance of 28.6 miles, so we can safely assume that tripling the distance would triple the time - for a trip time of around three hours. Now, this time would most likely be shortened by the chance for the engines to achieve higher speeds between stations, as the number of stations on both lines is roughly equal - 10 on the Furness line to 11 on the NWR mainline - but even still, it would require the railway running six separate stopping trains per day. Considering that only four of the six engines above could even run commuter trains, I would say that there is need for more engines.
There are currently two express trains that run on the Island of Sodor: The Limited and the WildNorWester, however it is not certain that the Limited is still running, as it only appeared for 'Enterprising Engines'. In any case, Pip and Emma are enough to handle fast trains on Sodor.
Freight is an interesting variable - we know that Sodor produces aluminium near Peel Godred, and that the alumina needs to be transported up there, and the finished product moved to the mainland, as well as general goods trains, farm produce trains, and freight trains bound for the harbours or from the quarry or China Clay pits. Based on these key requirements, it is safe to say Sodor needs a few more engines.
So, for the mainline we have Pip, Emma, Gordon, Henry, James, Bear and at least eight other engines of various sizes. Two of these engines would be built to run passenger trains alongside Henry, James, Gordon and Bear, while the other six would handle goods traffic, in particular bulk traffic or local goods. Fourteen engines, with potential help from Donald, Douglas and BoCo seems more reasonable as a number of engines on the mainline of a primarily agricultural island.
Suggestions for these engines include Murdoch, Derek, Emily and Rebecca - which is a shorter list than it should be due to the lack of large, mainline engines in the Thomas series who could feasibly run in the UK.
Finally, two shunting engines - one for Tidmouth and one for Barrow-in-Furness - can be added to the list, as since Duck gained his branchline, we have not been introduced to the new station pilot at Tidmouth and since the rise of the multiple-unit, Barrow station would require an engine to act as station pilot there too. Options for here include Diesel, Charlie, Dennis, Rosie and Paxton.
All of these numbers added together equals: 46. Twenty-three branchline engines, three industrial engines, two maintenance engines, one austerity engine, one preserved engine, fourteen mainline engines and two station pilots. Considering at the beginning I said that Northern Ireland Railways runs 47 engines currently and has a network of over double the size of Sodor but doesn't run freight, I would say that this is a pretty respectable estimate.
In direct contrast to this estimate, my ERS has 34 engines who cover the entire NWR and the neighbouring Furness Line. My reasoning: Donald and Douglas are magic, and scarily efficient. Having the two of them around means Edward and BoCo need no help on their branchline, and also Sodor would not need a commuter train every hour - it's a rural, agricultural island with three major population centres at Peel Godred, Vicarstown and Tidmouth. And also cause I have enough characters to balance already, Awdry had the right idea keeping the cast relatively small.

James: Here's James! (chuckling)
Thomas: You're not the favourite!
James: Of course I am. Ask anybody!
Then we see a clip of Thomas and James sang of "The Most Important Thing Is Being Friends" from Journey Beyond Sodor.
Thomas: (spoken) I'm sorry I took your trucks, James. I know you wanted to be the one to bring them to the mainland.
James: (spoken) And I'm sorry about teasing you. I'm not really anyone's favourite engine. If anyone's the favourite, Thomas, it's probably you.
Thomas: Don't be silly, James!
Nobody has to be the favourite
It's not a competition in the end
It doesn't matter if you prove that you're the very best
But what will happen when you put your friendship to the test
Never mind about who is the favouriteThe most important thing is being friends!
Thomas and James: The most important thing is being friends!
Theo and Lexi: Everybody can help! Everybody join in! When everybody has a part to play

You'll find out what you can do!
Thomas, James and Beresford: Everybody can help!
What I'm saying is true!
When you give it a try
You'll find out what you can do!
Thomas and James: Nobody has to be the favourite
It's not a competition in the end
It doesn't matter if you prove
That you're the very best
But what will happen when you
Put your friendship to the test
Thomas, James and Trevor: Never mind about
Who is the favourite
The most important thing is being friends
Thomas and James: Nobody has to be the favourite
(Everybody can help)
(Emily joins in): It's not a competition in the end

Unknown Woman voice (Perhaps Steam Team): Red, Green, Yellow and Blue!
Hurricane: Never mind about who is the favourite
Theo, Frankie, Hurricane, Merlin and Lexi: The most important thingis being friends!
The Steam Team: The most important thingis being friends!
Henry: (spoken) What did I miss?
After the song was done, we see Oliver and Toad trying their tap dancing routine.
Toad: No, no, it's like this.
Sir Topham Hatt watched with uncertainty, and then when the Sodor Brass Band played, he facepalmed upon seeing the clarinet man play his clarinet off-key.
Edward: This is what you got so far for the production number, huh?
Sir Topham Hatt: Oh, uh, Edward, I've been thinking, maybe we should make us a biking number, huh?
Edward: What?
Sir Topham Hatt: A biking number.
Edward: Okay.
He then left.
Sir Topham Hatt: Yeah, yeah. That's what it needs, lots of bicycles. Oh boy, it sure needs something.
He then left as one of the penguins popped up.
Penguin: And we know just what that is!
Then a purple light shined on the chorus of penguins as they sung.
Penguins: (singing) He's the one and only beautiful man
The one and only beautiful man in the world with a plan
A neon-lit curtain-lined stand rose, and the curtains parted to show a turning Gordon, in a fancy show-man's attire. He giggled a bit.
James: What's all this about?
Gordon: It's a grand entrance for my tribute to Britt Allcroft.
James: Well, uh, don't you think it's just a little over-the-top?
Gordon: Yes! Isn't it wonderful?
James: Gordon, do you know anything about Britt Allcroft?
Gordon: Mmm, nope. Not particularly, nope.
James: Oh bruthah.
Then he saw the clips in a station shown on the monitor.
James: Hey, hey, hey, maybe the clips knows.
We see a clip of Thomas likes whistling rudely at Gordon from Thomas and Friends.
Ringo Starr: Thomas thinks no engine works has hard as he does. He loves playing tricks on them, including Gordon the biggest and proudest engine of all. Thomas likes whistling rudely at him.
Thomas: Wake up, lazybones! Why don't you work hard like me?
Ringo Starr: One day after pulling the big express, Gordon had arrived back at the sidings very tired. He was just going to sleep when Thomas came up in his cheeky way.
Thomas: Wake up, lazybones! Do some hard work for a change! You can't catch me!
Ringo Starr: And off he ran laughing. Instead of going to sleep again, Gordon thought how he can get back at Thomas.
We see a clip of Douglas rescues Oliver and his brake van Toad from being scrapped.
Douglas: That sounds like a steam engine.
Narrator (George Carlin): He thought. The hiss came again.
Douglas: Who's there?
Narrator (George Carlin): Asked Douglas. A whisper came.
Oliver: Are you Sir Topham Hatt's engine?
Douglas: Aye and proud of it.
Oliver: Well, I'm Oliver and I'm with my break van Toad. We've run out of coal and have no more steam.
Douglas: But what are you doing?
Oliver: Escaping?
Douglas: From what?
Oliver: Scrap.
Narrator (George Carlin): Douglas shivered. Then, he remembered Edward's story about saving Trevor.
Douglas: I'll be glad to help you. It'll have to look those if you're ready for scrap and I'm taking you away.
Narrator (George Carlin): Their drivers and firemen agreed to help too. Everyone worked fast.
Douglas: No time to turn round. I'll run tender first. Come on!
The next clip of James spins faster and faster until he slows down, and as the turntable stops, he's all green and dizzy.
George Carlin: Gordon said nothing. Even James laughed when he saw him.
Gordon: Take care.
George Carlin: Hissed Gordon.
Gordon: You might stick too.
James: No fear.
George Carlin: Chuckled James.
James: I'm not so fat as you. I mustn't stick.
George Carlin: Thought James. He stopped on just the right place to balance the table. It could now swing easily. Gordon arrived in time to see everything. James turned much too easily. The wind puffed him round like a top. He couldn't stop.
(James spins faster and faster until he slows down, and as the turntable stops, he's all green and dizzy)
Gordon: Well, well!
George Carlin: Said Gordon.
Gordon: Are you playing roundabouts?
George Carlin: Poor James feeling quite giddy rolled off to the shed without a word.
The next clip of Duck crashes into the barber shop.
Ringo Starr: James was just pulling out on their line through the station ahead. Any minute, there could be a crash.
Duck's Driver: It's up to you now, Duck!
Ringo Starr: Cried the driver. Duck put every ounce of weight and steam against the trucks.
Duck: It's too late!
Ringo Starr: Duck groaned, and shut his eyes. He veered into a siding where a barber had set up shop. He was shaving a customer.
(Duck crashes into the barber shop)
Ringo Starr: The silly trucks had knocked their guard off his van, and left him far behind after he had whistled a warning. But the trucks didn't care. They were feeling very pleased with themselves.
Duck: Beg pardon, Sir.
Ringo Starr: Gasped Duck.
Duck: Excuse my intrusion.
Barber: No, I won't!
Ringo Starr: Said the barber
Barber: You've frightened my customers! I'll teach you!
Ringo Starr: And he lathered Duck's face all over.
We then see a clip of Thomas is horrified upon hearing this.
Ringo Starr: Soon, the inspector and the Fat Controller arrived.
The Fat Controller and Inspector: Cheer up, Thomas.
Ringo Starr: They said.
The Fat Controller and Inspector: We'll soon put you right.
Ringo Starr: The driver told them what had happened.
Inspector: So the feed pipe is blocked.
Ringo Starr: Said the inspector.
Inspector: I'll just look in the tanks.
Ringo Starr: He climbed up and peered in, then he came down.
Inspector: Excuse me, sir, please look in the tank and tell me what you see.
The Fat Controller: Certainly, inspector.
Ringo Starr: Replied the Fat Controller. He clambered up, looked in and nearly fell off in surprise.
The Fat Controller: Inspector...
Ringo Starr: He whispered.
The Fat Controller: ...Can you see fish?
(Thomas is horrified upon hearing this)
The Fat Controller: Gracious goodness me! How did the fish get there, driver?
Thomas' Driver: We must have fished them from the river with our bucket.
Ringo Starr: Replied Thomas' driver.
The Fat Controller: Well, Thomas, so you and your driver have been fishing. But fish don't suit you. We must get them out.

My Ttte Designs (Percy):
Headcanons:
Friendly, chill, mature, smug and can be a snarker sometimes. His personality was based on the more grumpier Percy that appeared in the classic series.
Caterpillar? Nah, they're a green centipede. Still, don't call them "Dirty Percy".
Is a lot less emotionally intelligent than canon Percy. Good thing when you're trying not to be manipulated and you're trying to stand up for yourself and your friends. Bad thing when your friends need emotional support and you end up giving them shit advice.
Demiboy and questioning. Uses he/him and they/them pronouns. He's trying to figure out what kind of people he's interested in. Girls and boys are off the list but he has a slight attraction to other genders. That being said, if's they're ever in a relationship, it just might be queerplatonic.
Loves analog horror like the Mandela Catalog, the Boiled One Phenomenon, etc. Heck. he ever brought the Boiled One plush.
Also they love ugly/creepy plushies and giving one to somebody means that they care for that person deeply. So if he ever gives you a fucked up plush, don't throw away. It probably means that you're one of his loved ones.
Their human age is 21 while their actual age is unknown since their og engine basis isn't a real one. However, they did get rebuilt into an actual engine basis following their REDACTED. The engine basis that they were rebuilt into is unfortunately unknown as well.
Is a fan of weirdcore and rap music. His favorite artists are Jack Stauber, Eminem and Connor Price.
Is the second oldest sibling between Pluto, Phillip, them and Mavis. Toby and Henrietta are their adopted parents.
Real name is Percival but just likes to be called Percy.
His left eye is blind while his right eye is fine. So his vision ends up looking extremely weird.
They're taller than Toby but is shorter than Emily.
SPOILERS FOR THE NEXT HEADCANONS!!!!
He used to be like his canon counterpart. Extremely naive, kind and gullible. He was Thomas' best friend, was confused about long words and was the sweetest engine in the Steam Team. At that time, Percy was 18, Thomas was 15.
Toby was extremely close to him as well, basically forming a father-son relationship with the saddletank engine.
That all changed when the tank engine suffered a series of accidents to ensure that he will never be the same....
First, in TOTB, Percy gets caught in a landside trying to save James like in the movie. The difference however was that Percy's left arm and right leg got DESTROYED and had to be amputated since they were damaged beyond repair. He was given wooden prosthetics to help him with his work but become extremely irritable and moody afterwards.
This then leads to him growing resentment towards Thomas, James and the others when Belle and Flynn were introduced in DOTD. All of the events from the movie are pretty much the same like Percy being manipulated by Diesel 10 except for two key differences: Diesel 10's plan involves more than taking over the Steamworks and actually wanting to BURN DOWN Sodor and there are some nice diesels like BoCo and Mavis who were roped into Diesel 10's plan, believing that Diesel 10 was advocating for equal treatment for diesels.
At the Steamworks where Diesel 10 was ready to burn it down, Percy gathers all of the steam engines, the nice diesels and Sir Topham Hatt to try and stop the maniacal diesel. This leads to a violent confrontation until Diesel 10 rips the left side of Percy's face OFF, leaving Percy with a half mutilated face. Furious by this, Thomas charges towards Diesel 10, angrily knocking him into the wall.
Above Thomas was the giant mechanical claw used to lift engines up when they were being repaired, came loose and was about to hit Thomas in the head. But in the last moment, Percy pushed Thomas out of the way and got a concussion. Toby, completely devasted, ran to the saddletank engine and started begging him to wake up. Enraged, Sir Topham Hatt banished Diesel 10 to the smelters' yard as punishment and Percy was sent to the Mainland for repairs.
In the Mainland, the workers were able to stich the left side of his face back together and were about to gave Percy new metal prosthetic limbs when they realized that they didn't enough supplies to make them. So in a desperate attempt, they went to the scrapyards of a random railway and used the remains of a gray diesel to make the prosthetics. Percy was stuck in the Mainland for 3 years.
When Percy finally came back to Sodor, everybody were overjoyed to see him okay but something was wrong with the tank engine. He didn't remember anything about Sodor.
It eventually took some time but Percy finally remembered about his old friends and his old home. But he also found a chilling discovery as well...
