i realize this looks finished, but technically i'm still deciding whether to add a background or not lol. still, for the sake of sharing a proper WIP, here's a line or two from an araleyn brainworm WIP that i started reworking yesterday (mild tw for religious guilt and period-typical internalized homophobia from aragon's pov):

She remembers sharing her bed with Anne at Henry's behest, remembers the nights of tossing and turning and trying not to think about Anne asleep next to her-- remembers waking up to dark hair spilling across her pillow and the press of blood-warm bosoms against her own, softer than sin, as hot as the Devil, remembers lying still as death, mouthing prayers into the heat of Anne's neck like an act of penance.

"eddie my love..."

the corners of eddie's mouth twitch from his spot with his head in steve's lap. the party downstairs is in full swing, only thirty minutes until the new year, but up here, on the balcony that overlooks steve's backyard, they're the only two people in the world.

steve combs his fingers through eddie's hair as he sings quietly. their fingers are laced together over eddie's chest.

"i love you so..."

eddie opens his eyes and looks up at him. steve hasn't looked away from him. he finds that he can't, really, and he doesn't really want to. doesn't want to look away from the brown eyes that look at him with so much love, even on days when steve feels like he doesn't deserve it. doesn't want to look away from the man who loves him unconditionally and irrevocably.

"how i've wanted for you, you'll never know..."

"10, 9, 8..."

the countdown starts. eddie can only hear steve's voice, his smooth alto, as they ring in the new year together. steve leans down and presses a kiss to his forehead. trails them down the bridge of his nose. eddie hums.

"please, eddie, don't make me wait too long..."

"-4, 3, 2, 1!"

"happy new year, baby."

steve kisses him gently. eddie reaches up and holds him in place by the back of his neck. the fireworks being let off in town don't quite reach the harrington house, but they can see the light from them over the trees. his house is filled with cheering and someone starts blaring auld lang syne.

eddie pulls away first. steve's eyes are still closed so he takes a moment to admire the fireworks flashing on his face. he cups steve's cheek in his hand, thumbs under his eye.

"happy new year, sweetheart."

something i feel like a lot of people get wrong about dean's characterization is that deep down he really isn't some hard ass. he's soft. he wants the comforts and pleasantries of life. like. dean takes creamer in his coffee instead of drinking it black, he likes a good homecooked meal, he wants to be held and loved on. i feel like people get too caught up in the image he pushes rather than who he really is
