Worlds 2022 - Women’s SP

I’m late to everything again, but idc. Thoughts:

- My girl Mana did so well! I’m so glad her Olympic experience didn’t completely get her down. And it was probably the right choice to play it safe here and just go for a 2A. Congrats on a really nice SP!

- Tzu-Han Ting was really great and I really enjoyed her skate. And yeah, it definitely felt like they robbed her.

- I loved Olga Mikutina’s SP! The music, the choreography, the new costume, and just the vibes of the program were so cool! I’ve said before that I have a thing for goth programs, so yeah - this was right up my alley, loved it.

Also, skating aside for a second: Olga was born in Kharkiv in Ukraine and I can’t even imagine how hard it must have been to focus on training while her hometown is currently being bombed. She’s also been vocally protesting against the Russian invasion since it started (she and Severin Kiefer made the hearts with the Urkainian flag that somes skaters were wearing in solidarity).

- A few years later, the male announcer still hasn’t learned not to mispronounce “Nicole Schott” as “Nicole Schrott” and I wonder when someone is going to tell him that “Schrott” means garbage/junk in German and that he’s been announcing her as “Nicole Garbage” this entire time.

- Mariah getting a small medal is cursed, I hate it. They overscored her so badly here. I really don’t get what was supposed to be so great about that skate. (And seeing people say that they’re just overscoring other white skaters more when the Russians aren’t here... yeah, I can’t help but agree.)

- Haein was really lovely and her score seemed harsh.

- I still dig Karen’s SP (like I said - goth programs ftw). Glad she performed it better here, but what a shame about the popped Loop.

- Wakaba’s scores will never stop making me angry, huh? It’s awful how it’s always the same people who get robbed. I do agree with the negative GOE on the 2A (and with calling it as a 2A) and with the F(e) (I’d have maybe gone for F(!), but yeah) - but the score still seems way too harsh. The PCS in particular is an absolute joke. And it’s telling how the judges don’t always give proper edge calls to other people, but here they suddenly can.

- Kaori’s skate was great! I’ve got to say this Gladiator SP really grew on me - I wasn’t a fan at first, but now I really like it! I’m super happy for her and she really deserves the title after getting robbed of it last year and getting robbed of silver in 2019. Her reaction to the score in the Kiss and Cry was absolutely precious. That said... and I hate to say it, but I do think she was overscored. Not in comparison to how the Russians are scored these days of course, but in comparison to how other Japanese skaters - in this case Wakaba - are getting scored, it’s noticable that Kaori is the one who has the Fed’s support. I just wish JSF had the energy to politic for all their skaters like this.

- Alysa’s skate, to my own surprise, might have been my favourite of the bunch this time. That was just a really enjoyable performance to watch on a purely subjective “do I enjoy watching this” scale. I love the music and outfit and she really seemed to have fun with it. I wanted to hug them when they started crying afterwards. She’s really been through a lot this season. Also they should have definitely placed ahead of Mariah here and I don’t get how they didn’t. (Oh right... racism. Yikes.)

((Also, Alysa is just a really sweet and likable skater that I want to root for, you know? It’s pratially just their adorable and infectiously happy personality, partially that I just really respect seeing someone actually go from a quad jumping kid to a more mature skater who doesn’t just focus on jumps, and partially also that she’s been a sentimental favourite of mine ever since I witnessed a whole bunch of Russian fans vocally root against her at the Junior GPF 2019 in Turin - just because Alysa was Kamila’s biggest competition at the time and maybe because of some Cold War BS as well. If you’d sat in that audience and heard the way a bunch of adults started to loudly roar and cheer when a 13-year-old didn’t win, you’d have started to root for that 13-year-old skater out of principle, too.))

- Young’s skate was another candidate for my favourite program of the event - amazing! Idk why, but this was the most I’ve ever enjoyed watching her skate this SP. So far, I’ve preferred her FS this season while just feeling “meh” about the SP, but this time I loved it! And I’m not entirely sure if that’s because she skated it better than before, or just because I’m not as tense watching this as I was during the Olympics - probably both. But yeah, great skate - should have also definitely placed ahead of Mariah.

- Loena was great and it’s nice to see a small fed skater do so well here! And she’s definitely a fighter to do so well with an injury. And again - a precious reaction in the Kiss and Cry. That said, she was also scored too generously here. The most obvious example is the opening 3Lz3T-Combo: The landing was pretty shaky, but only J9 have this combo negative GOE (-1). Most even gave it +2. And while I admit I don’t always get edge calls right, the Lz in the combo looked like a pretty clear Flutz to me? Am I wrong there?

Conclusion: I will say that while I still have issues with the scoring (the racism was very obvious this time), this was still the most enjoyable women’s SP I’ve seen in a long time. You take out the Russians and suddenly you’ve got an interesting competition again - even so, the ISU still needs a reform because in the long run, no sport can exist without fairness.

Andddd here’s my chappy three thoughts 🥳🥳🥳

Hmmm Katniss saying that her mother has a dress made of velvet is actually really interesting because it shows that Mrs. Everdeen Lily-Rose really was well-er off before she married Katniss’ father Hunter.

Or did she get the velvet dress from Maysilee? Oh well, who knows.

Aww, Katniss’ nervous habit of touching soft things repeatedly to soothe herself 🤧🤧.

“Crying is not an option. There will be more cameras at the train station.” — someone tell that to Peeta 🤣🤣🤣.

Okay I gotta stop picking on Primmers, I know but like. How small is she that she sits on Katniss’ lap like a toddler but then in the following year is the same height as her? Doesn’t matter I know but still I wonder.

Okay so Mrs. E is the doctor for the people of the Seam? Idk I never thought about this but who does people like Peeta or Madge or Delly go to if they’re sick or hurt? Is there a still running apothecary shop that Katniss never mentions? Are her grandparents still running the family biz?

Also okay, I gotta stop having so many thoughts on all the lil details I know but like. Katniss says here she’s familiar with the herbs her mother doesn’t grow on her own so like a). Katniss is more of a healer than she leads on because no average person knows what kind of plant is medicinal and b). Her mother is just growing herbs and Katniss never mentions it again in the whole series? Or I just missed it.

Okay imma move on from this one singular paragraph but Gale and her made a pact a year ago that they’ll supply each other’s family with game if they were to be reaped... I’m feeling like their close friendship is probably only one year old then? Idk. Just my interpretation.

Honestly I love Katniss getting mad at her mom here.

She’s sixteen, for God’s sake, of course she’s angry at what her mother’s illness put her through.

Also I lowkey like that her mother got mad back because that lady in the movies had zero personality.

“Boys who are two to three times my size.” She sounds so little, omg 🥺🥺🥺.

“I don’t care if we’re rich, I just really want you to come home” 🤧🤧🤧😩😩😩😩 okay Primmers, you got me here.

“the Peacekeeper is at the door, signaling our time is up, and we're all hugging one another so hard it hurts and all I'm saying is ‘I love you. I love you both.’ And they're saying it back...” this is so sad leave me be 😫😫😫😫

Omg I forgot Peeta’s father visits Katniss 😅

Why does he visit Katniss?

She describes Peeta’s father as a “big, broad-shouldered man.” And then describes Peeta as stocky. Idk the comparison of the two descriptions has always led me to think Peeta is gonna be a big dude when he grows up like his father. This made no sense and had zero correlation but I thought, so I said it, no regrets

Oh he brought her cookies 🤧

WAIT WAIT WAIT. I just had a new thought, y’all. What if instead of the baker bringing cookies being a thing he does for all tributes, what if he’s bringing the cookies because Peeta asked him to, because he made them and wants to give them to Katniss and knows she’ll never accept / trust them coming from her competition? What if that’s the real reason the baker visited her in the first place? Because Peeta asked him to? This was such a shipper comment but idc, no regrets, remember?

Omg Peeta’s father is just mute 🤣🤣🤣

Between an abusive, angry mother and a mute for a father, the Mellark brothers must have had a fairytale of a childhood 😅😅😅😅.

Omg I just remembered he’s her mother’s ex boyfriend. Haidon Mellark, as I named him in my fics.

That one fic where he was thought to be Prim’s real father is just playing now in my head, rent free.

But does Katniss not realize that he may be offering to help Prim as a favor to her? Like she claims Prim is just so wonderful people adore her but there’s like zero evidence in the text that make her endearing? Okay I need to turn this bus around, I need to find a love for Primmy Deen.

Madge is not one for preamble apparently. No “hi, how are you? I’m sorry you’re gonna die? What will your last meal be?” Just right to “here, wear this family heirloom of mine, k thanks.”

I like that Madge had to kiss her cheek for Katniss to realize they were friends 😅😅😅.

I remember always loving her and Gale’s hug here. I’ve always felt like it was platonic, but especially when I first read the books and had zero preference one way or another for Gale or Peeta, I really liked how she said even with nothing romantic between them, “when he opens his arms, I don’t hesitate to go to him” or something I’m paraphrasing ok I’m lazy

Also though, this is the first time they’ve ever hugged? Idk why that surprises me? It shouldn’t because where is a hug gonna fit into a hunting trip 😅🤣😂 “I just caught a deer!” “let’s celebrate with a hug!”

I like that Katniss remembers how her father even failed to make a good bow sometimes. Random, I know.

I like that the Capitol weren’t entertained by the people freezing to deaths because it wasn’t bloody enough 🤭🙃

“How different can it be [to kill a human vs an animal]?” She’s about to find out, Gale 🥺. And when she comes back you won’t understand 🙄😔

What did Gale want to say before the Peacekeepers dragged him away?

I used to think it was a confession of love but I’m actually sure it wasn’t now? Just the wording “remember I-“ doesn’t sound like it, considering he never confessed anything prior to her coming home.

I’m assuming now he was just gonna give her some more advice to stay alive 🤷🏼‍♀️. Clearly if it were relevant it would have made its way to the others books.

Aww, she’s never been inside a car before 😭😭. I didn’t even know they had cars in this universe but okay.

I notice though how she says “In the Seam, we travel on foot.” So is Peeta just riding his trolly down the street every day with the other merchants then? 🤣

Peeta just openly crying on camera 😅😢.

I like how Katniss is like “ooo is this an act to get sponsors?” when in reality Peeta’s like “no, I’m just a soft and genuine boy ™️”

Omg I just realized this totally goes along with Peeta’s thing later on “I want to die as myself”

He’s refusing to hold back his emotions because he thinks he’s doomed to die and he’s already refusing to pretend to be or feel something ingenious.

But a Johanna mention in book 1 chapter 3 woohoo 🥳🥳🥳 also Katniss comparing Jo and Peeta is kind of like foreshadowing of their shared torture in book 3.

Omg she just called Peeta broad-shouldered and strong. 🥰🥰🥰 my headcanon for his post-canon body is confirmed

Also why does Katniss keep allotting his strength to carrying bread trays around? Are they heavy? Why have I never once heard of people who carry bread trays being strong? I always thought Peeta was really strong because he learned to fight in order to defend himself against his mother but that’s probably wrong.

But if a mother is abusive, it can lead to one of the kids being physically violent as well and we know Peeta isn’t but he has two older brothers I’m gonna cut myself off now but I think we all smelled what I just stepped in.

Also I just find it so fascinating now how she regards herself vs Peeta here.

When talking about herself, she says, “The competition will be far beyond my abilities. [...] Oh, there'll be people like me, too. People to weed out before the real fun begins.” But when she talks about Peeta, she immediately says, “It would take an awful lot of weeping to convince anyone to overlook him.”

It’s just funny how she discounted herself right from the start but thought he was a real contender and then come to find out, Peeta believes it’s the exact opposite 😂🙃. They’re both so stupid I can’t even take it.

Wait did they actually give the location of the Capitol and the location of District Twelve in today’s world? And I just overlooked it? Brb I’m gonna go to google maps right quick.

Okay so basically what I gathered is the Capitol is probably in New Mexico and District Twelve is somewhere between Kentucky and Alabama. Irrelevant I know. But just a reminder now to everyone that Katniss and Peeta are literally speaking, crying and screaming in thick, backwoods southern accents.

It’s literally so sad how everything for Katniss is about food. Like every motive she has, every action she does is about preventing starvation ever again. 🤧🤧🤧

Oh my God, Effie, you selfish jerk. They’re kids having fun for like one second, no need to throw in their faces they’re gonna die if the drunk won’t help them. I’d forgotten why I don’t really like the book version of her. I actually prefer her as comedic relief in the movies.

I actually just realized I really dislike Effie Trinket, I hope they never speak to her again Post-Mockingjay. Idc how you’re raised you don’t need to treat teenagers who are sentenced to a probable death badly just because they laughed at you 🙄🙄🙄😡😡😡😡. They didn’t even really laugh at her, she’s just annoying and awful, we don’t stan Effie in this household.

Everything is perfect, really. I don't know what to add, YOU COMPLETELY NAILED IT. Unfortunately I don't remember the book perfectly, so I probably won't be very helpful😩 BUT-

First thing: I TOTALLY FORGOT HIS FULL NAME WAS ALISTAIR OMG THIS IS FATE

And YES. Alastair and Lister are similar in so many ways (especially if we consider their backstories and struggles, apart from the alcoholism). Also, I always got the feeling that Lister carries a deep loneliness around, even when he spends time with his friends (probably bc of his interior struggles) and with Alastair....isn't exactly the same??? Like, even when he's around people he cares about (like Cordelia or Thomas) he seems so lonely and melancholic, as if he constantly felt the burden of his past mistakes and fears. Wow, I made myself sad :)

And TOM AND JIMMY? OH MY GOD. WHY ARE YOU MAKING ME CRY GIRL????

They basically share the same personality😭 both unsure and quiet, but affectionate and kind. And I always thought Thomas might have anxiety (basically bc of everything you've just pointed out) so when you compared him to Jimmy it totally made sense to me.

Also Jimmy is the one who write songs, right? (I could be wrong tho) beCAUSE IN THAT CASE- ouch🥺 Do I really need to comment this?

I also found out that his hogwarts house is hufflepuff (thomas darling is that you???)

IN CONCLUSION: I LOVE THIS COMPARISON. IT'S EVERYTHING 😭

• Vinick’s first sneeze wasn’t “CDC approved” because he sneezes into the air instead of his arm. Hrishi says it’s because he’s in denial about having a cold. But a.) that makes no sense and b.) Sheila is putting his coat on him, so his arm is behind him.

these really aren’t the things to be focusing on but anyway

• Hrishi also made the comparison between Kate’s bra and Donna’s underwear.

• They appreciate that as soon as Donna tells Will the relationship thing isn’t about him, he doesn’t keep pushing it, saying ‘No, obviously you’re talking about me’ which is something that would happen in other shows. He immediately switches back into ‘yeah, we’re friends’ mode, and gives her advice.

• “That scene left me thinking, well he could still go up there and tap on the door, right?”

“I wasn’t sure why, plot-wise, that was like, “oh, now it’s not going to happen!”

“Yeah, he could still do that. He knows what room she’s in. She has, at least figuratively, opened to the door to him, by even making that gesture.”

“Ronna just completely cockblocks him.”

• Despite the little time we got with Shiela, her offering to resign and take the fall for the campaign still made an impact.

• CJ has to make sure both Santos and Vinick are coming to the White House to be briefed about the Kazakhstan situation. While she tells the Santos campaign details, but she only tells the Vinick campaign that it’s a security briefing.

• “Big star, clearly, but Ronna basically loses her shit over it. And Donna’s quite excited too.

“I mean, they make a great trio: Ronna, Donna and Bonna.”

“I’m surprised since they changed Ronna’s name, at the drop of a hat to rhyme with another’s character, I’m surprised they didn’t start calling her Rono in this episode with no explanation.”

Janel’s Interview:

• “Brad had some kind of a nasty cold. We had been talking for seven years about the eventual kiss, and he warned me he would be using his tongue, that’s what he kept telling me.”

“That sounds like Brad.”

“Yeah, you’d go to jail now if you said that. So then he showed up that day and he was kinda cold-y and flu-y and it was sort of not hot - I’m sorry to disappoint everybody. But the whole show was very exciting to do, I remember it very well. I remember it more than most of the shows for obvious reason.”

• You know, listen, I loved Brad and I still love Brad, and I think it would be a big fat lie to say that we did not have a mutual ongoing seven-year crush on each other.”

• They kissed “a liiitle bit” in rehearsal.

• Television Without Pity write up about the kiss:

“So Donna knocks on a door, and we hear Josh’s groggy voice from the other side. As soon as he opens the door, she bursts into the room. He’s wearing boxer shorts and a shirt unbuttoned halfway down his chest. She just starts throwing state-by-state poll results at him, and he slowly walks toward her. And then she tells him that in the Times poll, the two campaigns are tied, 44-44. Josh takes a second to soak it all in, and screams ‘Holy mother of God, we caught him, we caught him!’ and then he grabs Donna’s face in his hands, and plants a big one right on her lips. They break away from the kiss, look at each other, and then dive right back in. The camera spins around them, and I get a little lightheaded, and it’s all very sexy, and then I realise that Josh just woke up. Morning breath. Ugh.”

“That reads like, had that scene not happened, that’s like fanfiction of how it would have happened. It makes me realize that the scene is such a West Wing fantasy fulfilment.”

• John Wells wanted the kiss to be a surprise. They didnt put the kiss in any promos

Brad’s interview:

• “Yeah, I was excited. I get to kiss her!...I mean, in a purely professional manner.”

• “Janel said that she felt like it was awkward when it was being filmed as well. She didn’t feel like it had really landed for her.”

“Yeah, that’s a common response after I kiss a woman.”

I have wandered into your tumblr and I want to know absolutely everything about your ideas for Earth 3 Impetus and Motion. EVERYTHING. Possibly the least relevant part of that is the family line, as Earth 3 often has really skewed versions of the characters. Would the first Johnny Quick even have a speedster grandson when he was killed and his blood used to power his successors?

😄 I’m very happy to talk about this but I’m afraid you may be disappointed, because I’m Doing It Wrong. I’ve been working off and on on a bespoke Earth-3 for the past…several years. Production has slowed but not stopped. It’s up to over 300,000 words on AO3 at this point.

The issue that set me off was that tendency to skew; I didn’t like it. I found that, most of the times DC had built into Earth-3 before rebooting again, there were two countervailing currents leading writing decisions. On the one hand to make things As Wrong As Possible compared to the main timeline, and on the other to just make them…arbitrarily different.

Lois Lane is Superwoman, evil counterpart of Wonder Woman, for some reason, woop-de-do; this fits under both categories.

This process worked neither according to the ‘timeline that diverged into a Bad Timeline at some point in the distant past but somehow contains versions of the same people in the same place’ premise of the original Star Trek ‘Mirror, Mirror’ episode, nor does it work according to any direct cosmic principle of inversion, although some of the early versions claimed to.

(See: Mirror Christopher Columbus discovered Europe and then later Evil George Washington conquered England for the American Empire, what even guys. 😩)

Also Earth-3 so transparently existed almost every time it was reinvented as a place to get villains from, and to look bad in comparison to the main timeline, without any attention to making it work internally, which I thought was a damn waste of a cool concept. ‘A damn waste of a cool concept’ drives a lot of fanwork lol.

So for my world, I had the slightly conflicting goals of working as close to that amorphous thing ‘canon’ as possible, and of making the setting stand on its own, as a superhero setting, with internal causality and more or less the usual sort of hero-versus-villain logic. So I inverted the alignments of only superheroes and supervillains, and kept as much as possible of their backstories intact.

This means my stuff doesn’t map onto any canon Earth-3, especially not the one from Forever Evil because that came out after I’d already gotten all the big things pinned down. 😅 Some people get upset about this and come yell at me about how i.e. Owlman is Thomas Wayne Junior. But since I always saw that particular concept as a huge cop-out from looking at how few alterations it takes to turn Bruce Wayne into a spectacular villain, I was like ‘nuts to that’ from the start.

So, Impetus and Motion! I don’t remember what I said on that one post where I remember blathering about it, so forgive me if I repeat myself. ^^

Lineage is the same as canon, technically. I’ll go over it; if you don’t care just skip ahead to the next subsection. 😄

Mirror Barry Allen, the Dash, got his villain name for his signature kill technique of grabbing someone, hyperaccelerating them, and then letting go at the right moment that they get dashed against something immovable and go splat. He dashes people against things.

(His eventual sidekick, Blaze, got his for liking to make things combust by accelerating their molecules. The combination makes them sound like a pair of racehorses, which they did not intend and are very annoyed by when it’s pointed out.)

The Dash is pretty scary, especially because most of the ways he abuses his speed for profit are so low-key nobody even notices (i.e. screwing with the stock market) and he doesn’t need to be a supervillain. He just likes it.

His public villain profile is relatively low for the level of danger he poses, tho, because his town is infested with really dumb superheroes who beat him embarrassingly often, when he actually turns up to fight or is successfully ambushed. And with the occasional exception the scale of his crimes is fairly small compared to i.e. Ultraman.

Keeping him imprisoned is ridiculously difficult, tho. He can’t be completely depowered (because the Speed Force is external to him and all the power dampeners that are used assume they’re trying to shut off something generated internally) and he’s really smart, so it took years of battles to keep him long enough to transfer into a proper cell even, and longer to get an unblurred look at his face.

His secret identity survived so long that Barry Allen was there to comfort Iris West after she was targeted by the Dash on several occasions, and they were married by the time he got ultimately unmasked.

She left him after that and moved back to the future, which she was still from because that’s hilarious, but he eventually tracked her down and promised to reform if she’d take him back. This obviously fell apart eventually, but not until after the twins were born.

I haven’t mapped out the mirror Thawne line. I assume the Thawnes with healing powers who inadvertently adopted Barry’s twin were much nicer in this timeline but idk if he ever became Cobalt Blue or what. I hope he lived to old age. Apparently there have been multiple Cobalts Blue? Idk idc, Flash continuity what even are you.

Everyone thought Eobard Thawne was nuts, but he actually did go back in time and stop the Dash from destroying the world with nukes in a fit of rage, his historical analysis, method of giving himself speed powers, and time machine were all successful. He may additionally suffer from some degree of psychosis, but he wasn’t wrong. (His little brother still exists in this universe because good!Eobard wasn’t the type to manipulate time to erase inconvenient family members. He also doesn’t have the title Professor because he never got tenure, so he just goes by Zoom.)

Bart is still Don and Meloni’s kid. Frankly I don’t understand those two in the normal timeline, so it’s hard to construct their mirror versions in any depth or even decide whether they should get mirrored. (Probably not tbh.) But I don’t exactly need to, because the resulting Bart is very much the same and thus doesn’t really know them. He was still born with his weird speed glitch that caused him to be raised in a simulation, and eventually time-traveled to un-glitch him.

The difference is that he’s not a nice kid. He’s a two year old who looks twelve and has received all his socialization from reasonably good AI in a world that was not real. Where nothing had consequences. Where nobody was real.

He’s very frightening, is Impetus. Impetuous, wildly powerful, selfish–oddly sweet, occasionally, in the ‘gay and innocent and heartless’ way of Peter Pan, but probably even more likely than Peter to knife someone. He’s so delighted the first time he eats actual ice cream, as opposed to a simulated version, but the ice cream stand is now on fire.

Mirror Bart isn’t so much cruel or even un-empathetic as solipsistic. He’s arrested in the state of an intellectually advanced toddler playing, what’s that game called, the one where the objective seems to be getting in car chases a lot? When was the last time they made a new one, I feel like I haven’t heard it mentioned in ages, it’s a dead franchise isn’t it I’m old. Grand Theft Auto! That’s it. He doesn’t just not understand that danger is real, the way Impulse started out. People aren’t.

Impetus is easily bored and surrounded by NPCs. It gets ugly, sometimes.

He also time-travels a lot more frequently than normal Bart, because he doesn’t really get attached so he doesn’t try to maintain a normal life of any kind, so he pops up all over the timestream.

Jason Blood hated him personally long before Bart had any idea who he was; they have a villain rivalry plagued by causality issues and closed time loops that is alternately epic and stupid as fuck.

And then there’s Thad. Thad’s had a less awful time than he did in canon, I think–President Thawne is not technically a supervillain so he’s probably about the same as in the original timeline, but even assuming Meloni and Don are still out of the picture (probably it’s Barry’s fault in this dimension?) raising a kid as a ‘defense mechanism against a supervillain’ calls for less extreme brainwashing fuckery than raising one to hunt down a superhero.

So he probably behaved a bit more like a reasonable grandparent, simply because the context incentivized him to emphasize concepts like duty and loyalty more, and hatred less. He might even have been able to go public with Thad’s existence, depending on the spin he came up with. Among other factors.

But it was still a depressing, isolated, dehumanizing way to grow up, and it went on a long time, because as per canon Thad has the opposite problem from Bart in terms of how he passes through time. Motion is a 40-year-old man with a 12 year old’s body and approximate life experience.

Thad was already So Tired when he finally got out into the world on his own, and once he encountered Impetus he learned pretty quickly to both pity and fear him.

Even when Thad tries to avoid Bart and just have a life, Bart always crashes back into his existence again, and in the meantime he feels guilty. Because even if he could completely shake off having been raised to see countering Impetus as his whole reason for existence, he’d still feel a lot of personal responsibility to try, because he has the ability to stand up to him in a way almost no one else does, and he knows Bart’s out there resulting in casualties.

Due to all the time travel involved, even having just defeated Impetus doesn’t mean he’s not still out there at an accessible point in the timestream, needing to be stopped.

Impetus results in Motion the way Inertia resists Impulse. They’re very much locked into an action-and-reaction framework that does not even a little bit help with Thad’s clone identity issues.

Except for how the amount of time Thad spends saving people from Bart has slowly created a fairly large body of people over the course of history who know them as distinct entities, and like Thad a lot better.

Good feels good. ^^ It’s not necessarily the case that this happens, obviously, but with their alignment swap they also ultimately exchanged who’s defined by isolation. It takes Bart a long, long time to even understand that he’s lonely.

So curiouscat has stupid short reply lengths so i had to post this here

Tw for: bullying, fatphobia, discussion of sexual harassment (oh it feels good to have enough characters to write a proper tw)

So it might surprise ppl to know that my favorite frontier character is JP, the raging heterosexual. But like, to me...hes so much more than that. JP is a character that I saw so much of myself in. His social isolation from his peers, leading him to push away others to avoid getting hurt...its not that people outwardly bully him, its that no one sees behind his surface and nobody bothers to truly care about him. People only recognize him as the class clown - no one actually wants to hang out with him. And that...that hit me HARD as a kid. It was the experience i had growing up. I wasn't outright bullied, I just felt...excluded. Judged. I wanted friends but was too afraid of being judged or excluded. And sometimes it caused me to be dismissive of genuinely good people. And quite frankly, that's STILL a problem I have, not even a year after an exfriend of 7 years said that our interests were one of the things driving us apart. My intense fear of being ridiculed for my interests drove me as a kid, and sometimes even now as an adult, to completely stop caring what my peers thought about anything. For all intents and purposes, im a bit of a hipster - i hate on what's popular and i tote my more obscure interests. Because I feel like that's the only way. Obviously i have fairly mainstream interests but lemme tell ya, i went to a christian school in the late 2000s/early 2010s - goddamn pokemon was obscure/counter-culture in a setting like that. But despite my desperate attempts not to care, I DO care, just like JP. It fuckin stung. And now i have depression and social anxiety whoops. Honestly ngl, it got so bad that I genuinely projected that it was implied JP was isolated for being fat/not conventionally attracted, until i was like "wait a minute...frontier didnt go that hard"

But what makes JP such a tragic character to me now is that at the end of Frontier nowadays when i watch it, im left asking myself....DID JP make any friends?

I know JP is a raging heterosexual but quite frankly, he is dealt such a shitty, judgemental hand for an innocent crush. JP's most nsfw fantasy is marrying Zoe and holding her hand, like... And yet, despite this, he's accused time and time again of being a perv. JP is, well, a big fuckin guy. As such, he thinks "its probably a good idea to let all my friends climb up this latter before me, so i dont crush them all if i fall - plus ill look chivalrous too!" But he unfortunately forgets that Zoe has a skirt on and, y'know, not pants. I understand Zoe's hesitation completely - i wouldnt trust a man who kept hitting on me either. Her relationship with JP is completely justified. Like, its not like JP doesn't take no for an answer - he just still has a crush on her. Yes he should probably give it a rest but like, he's 13 and his most nsfw fantasy is to hold hands and marry and respect his crush. Inb4 you say "but its a kids show of course it is-" literally everything about Zoe is sexualized so no the fuck its not lol

What gets me the most though is the beach episode... again, not because of Zoe. She thinks someone has peeped on her (understandable but it was a digimon) and confronts them about it. But koji and takuya IMMEDIATELY suspect JP, and only believe his immediate denial when Tommy points out that JP was with them the whole time. Like first of all, YOU FORGOT HE WAS THERE??? it took the baby of the group pointing that out for you to remember???? Second of all, JP has never done anything to warrant not being believed - again for zoe id understand, a bitch has gotta be weary, but not for the guys? And thirdly, and perhaps most importantly of all, YOU GUYS CONSIDER SOMEONE YOU'D EASILY SUSPECT OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT YOUR "FRIEND"???? i would NEVER be friends with someone who i could see sexually harassing another one of my friends!! What the shit!! I realize they're kids but GEEZ. And i know its implied JP only cares about the perpetrator because he likes Zoe but idc, despite being persistent in his crush JP has literally NEVER done ANYTHING to disrespect women. And if the scene where takuya and jp run into Zoe's changing room to see whats wrong after she screams counts - well lol takuya was there too.

Zoe was dealt a terrible hand by the writers (worse than JP imo) so I understand people being weary of JP, but - in the dub at least - he literally did nothing wrong... dont confuse the writers sexualizing zoe and being misogynistic with JP sexualizing zoe and being misogynistic.

And im gonna say it - JP is only treated this way cuz hes fat lol. Its not a coincidence that the only MC in the digimon anime who's treated like a perv (despite the fact that they failed in writing one, cuz hes not a perv) is the fat guy. Japan LOVES the fat otaku stereotype (America, look what you did, you made it fatphobic) and in JP's case he's treated completely differently because he's fat. Takuya doesn't have an explicit crush on Zoe but just look at how he treats her vs JP. And which one is demonized lmao? Like, frontier has major problems in general, but to me this isnt a coincidence.

Also, I think JP's crush on zoe is initially just flirting/wanting to impress a girl to fill the void in his heart, but then he genuinely comes to respect her and like her for who she is. He likes that she's kind but stands up for herself and even though he's hopelessly infatuated with her, he just wants her to be happy, even if its not with him. He relates to her struggles to fit in despite not understanding how someone so beautiful and charismatic (in his eyes) could be disliked by her peers.

Hackers Memory discussion coming up, but the spoilers are minor/vague. Frank discussion of sexual harassment and...pedophilia i guess? But its like...ephebophilia, not literal children.

I realize the Story games and the anime are two different beasts entirely, and Cyber Sleuth especially is targeted at an older audience. BUT... compare how JP is treated in Frontier to how Chitose and even Keisuke are treated in HM. Chitose goes after countless women and isn't even reprimanded for going after someone he considers a CHILD. To clarify - Ryuji and Chitose both call Arata a child. Arata is canonically older than Yuuko. Chitose flirts with Yuuko. It is gross. Like he gets the physical embodiment of the cold shoulder and you get to insult him for it, but that's not proper reprimanding. In comparison, yes JP is older than Zoe...by a year/grade. But JP gets accused of SEXUAL HARASSMENT BY HIS "FRIENDS" and Chitose just gets "haha good ol chitose, hes a wild one." Plus i think Chitose and JP get the shit smacked out of each other an equal amount of times in the story, which like...one of these people is worse than the other!

Then there's Keisuke, the protagonist of HM, who's significantly better than Chitose but still gets dirty thoughts about Yuuko and is only reprimanded by Erika. And honestly I love Erika but HM plays up the tsundere heterosexual couple aspect. So imagine the only person who calls you out on your shit is your fucking love interest, who also beat the shit out of you with a plush toy for entering her room without knocking, not knowing anyone was in there (id say hes not a playboy but considering he befriends a stranger to practice "getting chicks" at chitose's recommendation, hes totally a playboy) and yet all she does when you start thinking weird shit about Yuuko is be like "hey. Stop that. Get some help"

Also Erika's best friend is chitose so like, someone save this poor girl PLEASE

But my point is that Chitose is conventionally attractive and...well they play up the idea that Keisuke isn't but hes not conventionally unattractive like JP is.

Gee, i wonder why they're treated differently? /s

(I know I implied I was doing this to be a cheeky bastard but I genuinely had no inspiration to write any mer-may piece until just today after watching a 360 youtube video on exoplanets. Title is not permanent I just don’t know what to name it so you’re getting this ^ lmao)

When you first joined this expedition, you didn’t expect to find yourself stranded in a vast deep-blue ocean on an alien planet. If you’d known, you wouldn’t have come.

The rest of the crew is beginning to get anxious. Food is dwindling to nothing, the farming supplies you’d brought for the trip meaning nothing here, surrounded by only violent waves and strong winds.

The ocean here is stronger than it was on Earth, waves reaching nearly as high as mountains. The captain had been forced to take the ship under the waves to avoid the constant violent torrent, resurfacing every few days only when the oxygen begins to run low.

You were lucky, you supposed, your crew landing on a planet with breathable air. The temperatures outside were nearly habitable, too, but with only water in every direction, that meant nothing. You wondered if there even were land masses on this planet, from the violence and magnitude of the waves. With no land for the water to break against, the tides would become violent; as you’d seen since landing here.

The captain hasn’t said much about your situation. You wonder if she knows everyone is doomed. Whispers of a mutiny had begun to circulate, but she hasn’t addressed that, either. She sits in her room, in silence, staring out the window into the watery depths.

With everyone on edge, it hadn’t been long since they had begun to point fingers at one another. Many of your crewmates blamed the captain, said it was her fault, that she had miscalculated the fuel needed for the entire journey to Leona-32.

You knew she wasn’t the one responsible for this; she hadn’t done the calculations. She wasn’t part of the team that had planned everything out. She was just made captain when the original one got cold feet. She was briefed about the mission plan and put in charge as a last-minute resort, being the only person there willing to take lead.

Despite your thoughts, you kept your head down and mouth shut. You knew better than to put yourself on the line when people were this desperate and afraid.

Time passed slowly on the ship, with nothing to do but watch the last energy reserves drop bit-by-bit, or watch the murky darkness outside the windows. Once, someone exclaimed that they saw something in the waters. When you all crowded around the window to look, there was nothing. Paranoia, probably. Hopefully.

Your captain has stopped eating.

You’re worried, coming to her door at mealtime to leave food and try the handle. It’s always locked. You’ll leave to get your own food, and when you come back, you find her meal is still there, outside the door.

The light in her room goes off and on periodically, though, so you know she’s still alive in there. You think she blames herself for this situation too.

The crew is beginning to whisper again.

Another week passes with little to no sign of the captain. The light underneath her door is dark now, and you haven’t seen or heard anything from inside in a few days now. You start to give her rations to some of the more sickly crew members.

The air inside the ship feels heavier. You think the rest of the crew already knows about your captain, but nobody says anything.

People are seeing more and more shapes in the water. You think you’re starting to see them too.

You return to your room that night anxious, scanning the depths beyond your window for any shapes. If this planet does support life, you wonder what that life may be? If it’s sentient life, well. You don’t know what that means, but the small part of you that’s left grasping for hope keeps turning you towards the window, searching.

You’re woken up from a nap by the sound of something tapping at your window. Your heart lurches in your chest and you quickly flip on the light, turning to see a figure in the murky darkness as it slinks away from the light.

You step closer to the window, wide eyed, trying to catch another glimpse of it. A few seconds pass where nothing happens, and then the figure is there again, slinking close enough for you to make out a few details in the light.

It looks almost like a fish, but its torso bears striking resemblance to a man. Your mind flashes immediately to the old legends of mermaids, and trepidation pricks at your spine.

It’s looking at you, making languid turns and circles as it swims around your window, like it’s putting on a show for you. Still, it keeps too far away from the window for you to make out much detail.

You’re so engrossed in watching the strange creature that you don’t hear the knock at your door. You jolt when you hear the voice of one of your crewmates, spinning to face him.

“Hey, it’s—woah, what’s with that look? See a ghost?” Rich, one of the mates you’d become friends with stands in the door of your room, looking at you with concern.

You furrow your brow and whip your head back to the window. The creature is gone. You wonder if it’d ever really been there. Rich clears his throat and you turn back to look at him. His eyes are on the window, too, for a moment, and he looks back at you with a gleam of understanding in his eyes.

“Mealtime,” He tells you quietly, glancing back to the window before ducking out of your room. He sounded tired, but then again, so does everyone else on the ship.

You’re woken up the next night—though, who knows if it was actually night on this God-forsaken planet—by the tapping on your window again. This time, it happens when the rest of the crew is asleep, save for the guard who has to watch over the food and the ship’s systems to make sure everything keeps running.

Maybe the creature knows everyone is asleep, and that’s why it chose to approach you now.

You flip the light on but keep the setting to dim, just enough to see the creature. It stays close to the window this time, and you can finally make out more details.

It seems to be wearing a mask of some sort, shards of what you guess are shells pieced together to form some sort of symbol, it appears. The symbol looks… vaguely like a cat, though you doubt it is. Whatever it is, you don’t recognize it.

The shells are a deep mix of purple, catching in the light. You wonder if it’s to lure prey, glinting in the dim underwater light and drawing unlucky fish(or whatever else was in the water) to it. The pieces are strung together with what looks like some sort of stringy underwater weed, and you note that it’s clearly more intelligent than most fish on Earth, having fashioned itself a mask. But what is the mask for? Decoration? Does it have a practical use? You don’t know. Maybe it’s dressing itself up, because if the mask had some sort of evolutionary purpose, wouldn’t it be a part of the creature?

You’re snapped out of your thoughts when the creature places a large, taloned hand against the glass. You look at the long claws poking out from its fingers and follow its arm down to the rest of its body. It’s covered in webbed spines, reminding you of a scorpionfish, though its skin is primarily a mix of grey and a deep purple, spattered with a myriad of the two colors. You can make out a few golden splashes on its tail.

Those claws tap against your window again, large hand splayed against the glass. It looks at you expectantly, and you think that it wants you to mimic the display.

Tentatively, you step close to the glass and place your hand on the cool surface over its hand, your own dwarfed in comparison.

The creature trills, loudly, enough for you to hear it through the thick glass, and moves away to swim in circles around the window. Its bright eyes watch you as it does.

Apparently your crew heard the noise too, and you hear a knock at your door. The creature swims away in a flash, gone as quickly as it had come. You don’t tell your crew what you saw, getting the feeling that it might start a panic.

They begin to whisper about you.

The creature doesn’t turn up for the next few days, but that doesn’t stop the growing rift between you and the rest of the crew. They’re suspicious of you; they might know about your “visitor.” You pretend not to notice when your rations get smaller. It’ll blow over—it has to.

After nearly a week of silence and the growing emptiness in your stomach, it appears to you once more. You don’t have the energy to get out of bed and turn on the light, lying there in exhaustion. It continues to tap at the glass with increasing urgency as you don’t respond, but you find yourself falling back asleep despite the noise. It’ll take the hint and go away, eventually.

Everything falls silent after a few minutes of tapping, and you thank whatever God there is for that. You’re just about to fall back asleep when something smacks against the glass. You jolt upright in bed, turning to look at the window. In the dark, you can see the creature glowing slightly, intricate pink designs that you didn’t see before spotting its body, matching its red, glowing eyes.

You reach for the light and turn it on, blood chilling at the sight of cracks spiderwebbing across the window’s surface. There’s… no way that thing can punch through the glass. It’s an inch of pressure glass, tempered for space travel.

You watch as it strikes the glass again, forcing it to bubble inward, straining from the pressure. You realize that it doesn’t have to break the glass, it just has to tear it from its place.

You jump out of bed and rush for the door, just registering the tearing of metal behind you before water floods the room, slamming you against the door. A pair of arms wraps around your waist and you thrash helplessly as you’re pulled into the endless waters.

Your ship quickly disappears from view, and spots are dancing in your vision as your lungs scream for air. The creature’s claws are digging into your waist, drawing blood, but you continue to thrash and claw at the water in a desperate bid for air.

This is how you die. Drowning on another planet as an alien creature drags you deeper, deeper into the water. You know now why sailors had been afraid of mermaids and sirens.

You breathe in.

demyx — number ix in organization xiii ( demyx vc : are we still gonna call ourselves organization xiii now that there’s 14 of us ? ) he is ... lazy . arguably the most cowardly of the bunch , doesn’t like fighting , and would rather nap or play music .

anyway demyx in the manga was honestly a mood and a half i adore him

when he was brought back to the organization for kh3 , he was made into a seeker of darkness — meaning baby water boy got NORTED . his ears didn’t appear to be pointed in some way ( like the others ) so it’s safe to say he didn’t get as much of xehanort’s heart placed inside of him . bt it was enough to turn his pretty blue eyes into that ominous gold .

regardless , he was benched despite going through that whole process which like i HIGHLY doubt is an easy one to even do ( so good on demyx for being strong enough to withstand it ,,, ) bt it’s ! to be noted ! because he felt bitter ab being demoted after , and ofc with a mystery incentive from vexen , demyx finally took the offer of backstabbing the organization ( read : it goes back to what i said ab him being like well what’s in it for me ..... since before he got apparently satisfied enough , he’s like uhhhh sorry bt have u seen what happens to idiots who betray these guys lol like idk ab all that )

so basically self-preservation of a slytherin . there i said it ! plot twist he isn’t a coward , he’s just smart enough to not throw himself head first into danger . go figure , right ? like look alright he may be comedic relief bt ... he is also more than that !

in the organization he was known to kinda be a bully / play pranks / manipulate others into doing his work for him bt at the end of the day he ?? isn’t like . REALLY a bad guy or whatever . saying it was the pressure of the organization is dulling everything down , because he still actively chose to do what he did and didn’t do and i will hold him responsible for it , bt . u know . shit happens !

like we have canon evidence he wld join in xigbar when it comes to the more like . idk i guess harsher teasing ? and all ? and like again demyx made the conscious choice to go along w it so he isn’t innocent bt , i firmly stand by saying demyx unintentionally looked up to xigbar despite even ‘ fighting ’ with him , bc .. well . i stan them being a That duo . because to me , he’s just a prankster who wants a laugh .. even at the expense of another .. which yea idk still yikes ... bt it isn’t like , malicious .. when he is on his own .. imo . i mean take the days manga , he puts a whoopee cushion on axel’s chair ? bitch pls ..

( also quick going back to him being strong enough to accept getting norted — please just remember .... nobodies aren’t even supposed to exist ! they only technically form when the person who lost their heart is strong-willed & tbh ? i think it speaks volumes for demyx bc despite the show he puts on ,..... he is there . )

now myde is actually my hc somebody name for demyx so like going off that it technically is his real first name .... he just doesn’t know that bc although he survived this , he didn’t uh really remember his old somebody life so like lmao fuck all honestly this life could be his real life for all he knows

so like he’s ?? more of a somebody in castle town opposed to a nobody meaning he ! has a whole fucken heart now ! although because his eyes are still indeed gold , he’s kinda like well shit is old man xehanort still in there too

anyway myde lu .. my son ... the memories of castle town life are . something else . he grew up with a single mother who worked odd jobs here and there struggling to make money to provide . so while demyx is like ah fuck working i don’t wanna fucken do this , he got two part time jobs the moment he could to help her out . because even if she isn’t his real mother , it’s ??? really nice to have someone caring ab him :/

he rooms with neko / noriko now because an ad on craigslist bt he still sends some of his paychecks & like whatever money cut he gets from the troubvdours ( also , ironically from a fucken craigslist ad ! ) etc to castle town mom bc honestly life in castle town has kinda uh . made him like . wow wait fuck haha oh man i actually ???? i can’t just nap and play music and do whatever i want ?????? like i mean he still does bt castle town memories / the life he was forced into here made him arguably more responsible even though he is still a little shit and completely at the same time not that responsible in the slightest

despite being natural blond in game etc i’m making the executive decision to say he was given naturally dark hair in CT & now has to keep bleaching / dying his hair blond bc .... he does not think he suits black hair . nor does he want to . it reminds him too much of like idk xigbar or vanitas or whatever with the dark hair + gold eye combo u feel JDWJJSJSNS

he dated isolde in CT & honestly i suggested it to bloom as a crackship bc haha different bt then it got really soft and really emo so here we are . they close tho now still & she’s the only person he’s opened up to ab his real life / the organization so far !!

Rewatching SPN 5x04

I don’t know if anyone noticed, though someone probably did, but honestly I’m surprised even I caught it, but when Dean wakes up to the end!verse and looks out the motel room window, there was a sign reading “now playing route 666” and HAH wow just. Idc if that’s the same name as another movie or whatever I’m calling that as a throwback to season 1. But then Dean later saying sympathy for the devil and I KNEW it was an episode title and whoop Callback!!! 🤣

Continuing on the cheery note before I go all angsty, though I never do it the other way around being beyond me (maybe cuz the happy part is easier and shorter.. yeah that’s it) stones!Cas, while sad, was still hilarious. His voice is much higher, as opposed to being all Castiel he’s more jimmy/Misha, whichever... and he laughs at past!Dean... right in front of endverse!Dean’s face... stupidly daringly brave... but funny.

But okay dark moment, I don’t know if this registered around the first time I saw this episode but woah... fuck Cas died didn’t he - in that honest to god suicide mission... woah goddamn endverse!Dean is so... dark and...battleworn

And that brings me to Dean though I wanna point out a couple quick things that are.. eh neutral and then relatively dark

1. Dean in in actual 2014 s9? Totally had a beard but that was probably because of the whole MoC and the thing with Sam... but I don’t know that guaranteed a beard.. though still totally cool that the writers nonetheless wanted him to remain completely similar to past!Dean, more of which I’ll talk about later

2. I found it (inappropriately) ironically hilarious how apparently Bobby is dead in 2014, and sure enough his status is still dead in s9 anyway.. I don’t know man stupid thought that had me surprised at myself but still.

Right. Now. Dean. Jensen. Can I just totally take a moment to appreciate how damn well Jensen acted??? Like, okay, I know, that for some reason Jensen felt like his entire episode’s worth of acting was blown away in comparison to the bit Jared did, and yeah, I’ll get to that, but dude. It’s like. Okay, momentary appreciation/recognition to every good actor/actress, but right now, totally dedicated to Jensen and Jared, for making me completely unable to see or even relate these people to Sam and Dean. Like. When they don these characters, they may share a face, they may share characteristics or personalities or certain behaviors... but it’s as if Sam and Dean are completely their own people vs Jensen and Jared. Like. How

Because dude Jensen especially like... he almost had me crying because I couldn’t even frigging associate past!Dean and endverse!Dean to be the same person, because they were both. So. Completely. DIFFERENT!!!! They were supposed to be the same people but NO Endverse!Dean is so much more battle hardened with all the extra years worth of experience and knowledge and pain and trauma and responsibilities (which again, totally far more similar to s9 Dean.. though s9 Dean was still lighter than s10 Dean so maybe s10!Dean and endverse!Dean was the closest but whatever anyway) that compared to him, past!Dean seems so much more innocent and lighter, even though standing alone he still has his own share of burdens and pain, and yet it’s nothing to what endverse!Dean had endured. Just.

And because of that. It makes them both. Completely. Different. People. And Jensen? He did a frigging amazing job - more than! No words in my fairly limited vocabulary can describe his outstanding skills, because it physically boggled my mind just to think that this was both the same person... and yet portrayed by someone completely different who still manages to more than just capture the essence, but deliver it with quality that exceeds anything and everything.

On a few more side notes, again, one light and one dark with a neutral one in between if you ask me:

1. The scent between past!Dean vs endverse!Dean when they first meet was awesome, nerve racking, tense, jittery inducing... and. Hilarious. For the life of me I will never be able to keep a straight face, nor will I be able to stay still when Dean reveals the one thing only Dean would know.. with that frigging smirk and everything, to which endverse!Dean replies with, ‘Touche’... just.

2. Of course Dean wouldn’t believe himself - duh! (But you’d think that because of that, he would know better and that obviously, he’d still find a way out...)

3. But then, when they’re at that cabin with the map and Cas being hilarious and all... but then they leave and it’s just the Deans and such a heart wrenching moment between the two and killing me with the performance... AS IF THAT WASN’T ENOUGH, they gotta add in some painful piano music as well, and dude, let me tell y’all something, there’s a reason I love the piano even though I can’t play worth shit, and that’s because it’s like. Almost always the perfect instrument no matter what, and heightens the visual experience...

But when it’s angst playing out on the screen?

I might be considered to be lost if I’m paying attention to the music in particular as opposed to what’s happening in front of me, but dudes, that’s only to acknowledge it and let it fill me with the pain.

Torturous.

Anyway.

I think.. I can move on to Jared now? I think... I covered everything...

Dude. He’s still a good actor though. Like. He definitely. Was not Jared at that moment. And calling him Sam also was like. Okay maybe it struck to close to Sam on demon blood.. and I don’t know I’m just used to seeing lucifer as Mark Pellegrino... but...

Hearing the story of how Satan became Satan from a frigging tv show should not have made me that thoughtful or emotional.

And yet. He managed it.

So yeah. I felt my heart break right alongside Dean’s at that moment, though of course never to that extent.

Zachariah sure does have a thing with zapping Dean to places - like alternate universes (😉😏😏😏) though, doesn’t he..

And Castiel saving him right. On. Time. And just. That satisfied smile or whatever just had me cheering for Castiel because god it was just.

But HAH when Dean picks up the phone and he thinks it’s Cas and the way he replies “dammit Cas I need to sleep!” And it’s all gruff and he’s still pretty happy relatively speaking and more.. not elated but loose limbed I guess, hunting with Cas, and it all disappears the moment he realizes it’s Sam speaking, and hence commence the angst fest.

And ah. That’s what I wanted to talk about since the beginning of the episode.

Honestly, I felt like they were just pushed into working back together again, and because of everything that was happening around them, with Dean working so fervently towards changing the damn future.. again, I might have mentioned it before, but if I haven’t, well. It’s like Sam and Dean were forced to reconcile because of external circumstances, which, I may not be well versed in psychology or all that, but it still didn’t strike me as healthy.

Like, yeah, Dean not talking to Sam ended up in him saying yes to Lucifer or whatever, but that ended up with the Croats and all (Croats!!! Dean and lingo and confused Dean but then comprehension dawning on him!!), so because of that, it’s like Dean has to work - no, muddle and struggle through to hurry up and salvage their relationship, just for the sake of/because the damn world and it’s future rested on their shoulders. So yeah, the way they had to push through all that... while I mean, it worked in the end?

Maybe it also didn’t. Maybe.. maybe it could have been better if they actually did spend some time apart (and wait, before y’all attack me for saying this) because Dean had to work through his pain of betrayal, and Sam through his own pains as well, but they were forced to do that together, and maybe it worked, maybe it just went to pushing them closer together all the way in the end...

Or maybe they should have been able to work through some of their problems on their own. Granted, it obviously could have also meant that they never would have reconciled ever again, but that was also another aspect of the apocalypse, wasn’t it? Dean decides they should never be together again, resulting in Sam saying yes to Lucifer, but that’s only because Dean thought they’d actually have a chance if they weren’t fighting together

But take out the MAJOR apocalypse factor (in which case honestly I don’t even think this problem would have been there in the first place but anyway)

But say that for the time being it wasn’t there, and they had sometime to figure out their problems on their own. Okay, yeah, chances are apart from a bunch of angsty moments where Dean recalls Sam’s memory, because mo matter what he’s only ever truly happy with Sammy by his side... but overall, in the hunting life? He’s a lot a more relaxed/less stressed, more likely to smile when he didn’t have to constantly worry about Sam and the demon blood and the secrets and the lies and the broken trusts which okay no apocalypse no demon blood none of this but still

But still. It could have soothed the pain enough, because yes, Dean is one to hold a grudge as much as he forgives easily, depending on the situation and this calling for both cuz it’s his brother but the deed committed was as bad as they are close as if to get their relationship... time still would have weathered away at Dean, enough to chip away at least enough anger for them to work through it somewhat more easily than they did.

And the same goes for Sam. Yes, he’d have maybe felt even more guilty, or maybe he’d have found another way of redemption, to find peace within himself, but eventually... eventually he would not only be more on par with wanting to make amends with Dean, which in a way, he already does, though in 5x04 no that wasn’t his main concern... but not only that but he’d be more at ease.. more easily susceptible to having a proper conversation, without as much as the angst that tore our hearts as it did in the show.

..yup. That’s about it. I’m surprised if anyone even read this far, honestly, this was just a way to get my own thoughts outta my head, but hey, if anyone read it 🤷‍♀️😁👌🏽😄😅

my favorite scene is probably the one with calen and folen. i think they add a lot of dynamic to camellia since before she was just grumpy tea witch. now shes grumpy tea witch with a past. plus i really loved that appearance change because just so many questions. tea party host plot twist: i actually hate tea. long live the coffee witch.

Funny thing about tea for me. I don't like hot tea. I definitely don't like iced tea. I'll tend to drop an ice cube into tea shortly before drinking it (it melts, admittedly diluting) to split the difference.

Are there any potential future scenarios you’re hoping to see them in? Are there any other sort of witch types you’re hoping exist in the world that could play a role in the comic? What about creatures? In the long term, do you think Camellia will keep her current tea brewing style of life, or will something come along and change it in contrast to all the shenanigans? Finally, in general, what other scenarios do you see popping up for the story given any story fact?
