how it feels having run all my errands and got home, into my jammies again, and on the couch with a second cup of coffee and a chocolate croissant watching nigella, knowing i'm having a delicious roast chicken dinner tonight and that i ate the perfect peach this morning, and can just couch rot and knit for the rest of the day, and having done all that all before 11:30am...

At least half of all posts where people comment "this website's userbase is aging" have me going like. Actually I definitely had a favorite stove burner by the time I was eight at the absolute latest. Not sure how you avoided that aspect of the human experience. Did you grow up with a butler or something.

Personally my biggest problem with the 2025 sexyman tournament is just how narrow the span of source material ended up getting towards the end. Two goofy but tragic middle aged men from DTVA shows? Crikey. At least sans v reigen had some range.
But with that said, I do think they both count, and won on their own merits. In my time on the Internet I’ve encountered many people deeply down bad for both of them, and god knows the phenomenon of doof x humanized perry yaoi is something worth studying.
Imo the changing face of the tumblr sexyman kind of reflects the website’s aging userbase. When you’re 16, a hot, morally grey old man looks like David Tennant as doccy who, when you’re 26, it looks a lot more like Saul Goodman.
Oh yeah, I think doof fits a little more then Stan. And there’s definitely people obsessed with both of them.
My biggest issue with the tournament actually wasn’t with the finalists. Rather the inclusion of Agent Stone from the sonic movies. Because it implies Lee Majdoub is not conventionally attractive which is just blasphemous. That man is SMOKING.

the funniest part about using Neopets in 2024 is that, even though the userbase is almost entirely 30-somethings, because their userbase in the heyday was all children they still need to comply with COPPA. most websites comply with COPPA by just not allowing anyone under 13. this is why if you claim to be under that age, most sites will just flat out ban you if they notice it even if it was very obviously a joke. companies requires a ton of special precautions in handling the data of young users, and most just don't care enough to do it. however, since neopets very much did (and still does, technically) allow children under the age of 13 to play, they have to play ball with COPPA. that means that even though i would wager the number of children playing neopets is near 0, the entire website still has to, like, not mention any social media site on-site. this is despite the Neopets Team holding monthly livestreams on YouTube, posting on /r/Neopets, and taking part in the official /r/Neopts Discord server. there is also still a filter on what you can type in the Neoboards, so you get 40 year olds talking about how their marriage sucks in censored euphamisms. it's great.

u literally get 20k-30k notes on some of ur posts. please stop being so disingenuous and acting as if you have no reach. if you don't wanna use your platform to bring awareness to important topics thats one thing and that's fair enough. but to act as if you have no platform at all is so ????
??? there are 20k to 30k note posts on here about cock and balls but those dont equate to a meaningful political platform - every time I've posted about donating to causes it gets like 50 notes tops. and there's no record of anyone actually following through.
i said it in a previous post but ask anybody whos tried to get a mutual aid post off the ground or get people to show up for a demonstration, it's like pulling teeth. this is a fandom website with anonymized usernames and zero accountability where something like half the userbase is under age 20? I legitimately dont know what you're expecting me to be able to do
im gonna be real I was staring at those asks and my gut instinct was to just post "yes" because that's the most succinct way to get it across but that's fucking empty, right? and so I was trying to come up with a "statement" until deciding okay, I'll post actual receipts with my real legal first name on them so people cant try to misconstrue anything or accuse me of practicing empty online activism. and then I immediately got another anon like "ummmm but I heard money isnt getting into palestine so idk how you're doing that"
like. ok. what's the goal here. is it to ACTUALLY effect meaningful change or is this a purity litmus test

if we're already psychoanalyzing this website's userbase: i think a lot of the normalization of guilt comes out of this deep fear/avoidance of painful emotions which Also i think is really common for people w/ parents who are/were abusive or not good at emotional regulation. like if you grow up learning that if you upset someone it will result in punishment or a blow up or ruining the day it becomes just so frightening to ever upset people and I Get It but it's something you need to actively unlearn if youve learned it
cuz upsetting people is soooo normal and part of having friends and loved ones and it gets a lot less scary the more it happens and resolves via talking it out without catastrophe... it took me ages to really learn that actually conflicts can be ok + having conversations that are scary can be deeply rewarding
but you gotta actually have those conversations to learn that and you have to know people you can have them with which can be hard if the people in your life arent ready for them. a lot of this just got easier when i got into my later 20s tbh

Something bothers me about the Aging Userbase Website calling two men in their 40s or 50s "Old Man Yaoi"
My fellow Middle Ages in Christ that is quite literally middle age. Call it that when they're like, 65, at least they'll be retired!

adorable art of chirp and silver by @tide2k <3
hi there! my name is Rabbit! i am a silly purple snow leopard guy from Colorado. i'm gendervoid pansexual and i use they/them pronouns. as of October 6, i am 27 years old, but i've been on this website since i was 14, so... something something "aging tumblr userbase." between severe chronic back pain, fatigue issues, hearing loss, and a variety of mental illnesses, i can't work, so i have a lot of free time and very little money.
right now i'm hyperfixating really intensely on Sonic the Hedgehog. i started calling myself Silver the hedgehog's dad as like, a joke, but it stopped being a joke months ago. that's my biological son. sure he's fiercely independent and spent his whole life battling giant lava monsters, but he deserves to be coddled and loved and supported, too :) he's my sweet baby boy and i adore him.
i am also into Star Trek, Fallout, the Elder Scrolls, Pacific Rim, Supernatural, Warriors, and like four hundred other things. if you're also into any of those things, i have great news for you: you're gonna see a lot of them on this blog.
also, if you even think about asking me about discourse or world events, i will zap you with my incredible laser eyes. i have so much anxiety and no money! i do not have the energy to care about what other people on the internet are doing!

1. Introduction: Slime Tutorials and the Musical Theatre Fandom on Tumblr
Musical theatre exists in a strange meridian:
It's too extravagant for people who don't enjoy live performances, but it's too commercialized for theatre-goers.
Tickets (especially to Broadway and West End shows) are ludicrously expensive, so all its biggest fans can't afford them.
It's incredibly localized and time-restrained (shows only run in one place for an allotted time) and yet fans remain interested despite when or where they are.
The industry relies on fan support, but discourages the circulation of the very content that attracts new fans.
How, then, are new fans entering the musical theatre community so consistently? The short answer: online fandom. The advent of social media allows for constant engagement, even if a show has stopped running. Online fandoms, however, are largely occupied by young people, many of whom have never seen their favourite shows live. How is this possible? Bootleg videos, shared on YouTube or online drives, allow for fans who can't access live theatre to experience the magic of a recorded show from their own homes. The catch? It's illegal. In order to bypass YouTube's copyright flagging system, many bootlegged recordings make up coded titles for their videos, with a common theme being the use of the words "Slime Tutorial."
This research will focus on the emergence of bootleg recordings of musical theatre, colloquially “Slime Tutorials” on YouTube, and their ties to the digital age/Web 2.0, the inaccessibility of theatre, and fandom culture. It also delves into the interplay between these bootlegs, online fandom, and their implications for the future of live theatre.
In “Tap, Tap, Tapping on the Glass”: Generation Z, Social Media and Dear Evan Hansen by Bethany Doherty, the notion of paratextuality is frequently mentioned when examining current trends within the musical theatre fan community. "The term paratext refers to materials that have been created to aid the promotion of a performance." When considering this definition outside of its traditional context of marketing (though this angle will be explored later), it's easy to make connections between paratextuality and bootlegs. While not created by the theatre company themselves, fan-curated video databases and other forms of online circulation are often how prospective fans discover new shows, thus intrinsically linking a show's success to its social currency through word-of-mouth marketing.
This model is particularly effective with younger audiences who can't afford tickets or travel, and thus the shows with a younger-leaning demographic are more likely to achieve online virality:
"Social media is facilitating this shift towards a more collaborative relationship between production and audience, as social media users become more apparent as content creators. Younger audiences delight in such interactions, which have led to critically engaged and creative responses to the musical. Widespread access to online, interactive platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr bring new opportunities for paratextual creativity and for re-experiencing the feelings and euphoria associated with the fleeting nature of performance. There is also something to be explored in the nature of sharing the fan-established paratextual creations for those who are yet to experience the performance moment. The relationship between fandoms is beginning to expand, in an attempt to replicate and share this ephemerality with those unable to witness the performance first-hand" (Doherty).
Tumblr is the ideal platform for this research, as despite its dwindling userbase, it has become the website of choice for niche fandoms and individually curated content, especially considering its lack of algorithm. It's also a multimedia blogging platform, which allows for photos, videos, gifs, text, audio, polls, and many more features which diversify the fan experience. This research pulls examples from all of these features. The following analysis posts include clickable links to all content referenced, which have all been previously "reblogged" by this account.
Let's embark on a journey through musical theatre bootlegs and how they affect the online fan experience!

I am so sorry you are dealing with a weirdo. Please know what you meant was obvious.
Its no big deal but thanks mate. I just remembered the block button exists and I should go back to using it liberally LMAO
Its not that I don't think kids should have internet access. I just think the abundance of so many websites having such a young age limit is a horribly harmful thing. Think about it. Tumblr. Twitter. Youtube. Tiktok. Etcetera. Because of such a young userbase you have kids oversharing incredibly personal information. Interacting with spaces that do not cater to them whatsoever and becoming manipulated into harmful mindsets about crap that doesn't matter in the long run. Adult content creators have nowhere to fucking go anymore dude. Like I know I laugh and poke fun at the horny crowd but truth be told, it sucks. Nobody has a platform anymore. Its getting harder for adults to assure minors don't interact with them. Its getting harder for mature content creators to even have a platform because websites like the one I listed will ban so much as mentions of words like sex and kill and death and gay and queer and etc. And have content that nulls their mind like those videos with a billion things going on and some nonsense being talked about in the foreground. And then kids on these damn websites grow up thinking those are bad words or gay is a slur and get manipulated into thinking talking about their name and age and where they live on the public internet is a completely okay thing that will have no repercussions at all. Do they not teach online safety in school anymore or something. And because these fucking websites now rely on the engagement of children, they've shaped and catered themselves to the younger audience specifically and now labeled almost everything as a violation of timmy the toddlers privacy because it shows a nipple or a skirt that shows too much knee or a mention of sex and violence and I'm fucking tired. Everybody preaches on and on that "limiting children from posting on social media" is harmful to them but its literally the fucking opposite. Its the fucking opposite. In becoming more "child friendly" these websites have literally become more harmful and dangerous to children AND adults and its impossible for me to point this out without people claiming I'm preaching censorship. I am literally preaching the fucking opposite for the love of God

https://www.tumblr.com/saltminerising/733265084049211392/why-does-staff-always-take-down-discord-server what do you mean "are they like a company afraid of unionization" they run a pet website for ages thirteen and up and it's kind of dangerous to allow people to link whatever discord server for any teenager on the site to join. It's not to keep their userbase from talking or organizing or complaining or something, they take down links to discords that don't comply with FR site rules to keep younger, more impressionable users safe from getting scammed or worse in an environment where staff has no control.
There are definitely things to complain about with staff and site policies but this is such a normal internet safety thing I don't know how this is a problem for some people.

I know this is a pet peeve and a very small hill to die on. but.
i hate the sentiment of "something something tumblr userbase aging" "you are old when" etc in relation to like. kitchen appliances. cooking. home furnishings. because. listen to me.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT AGE THIS IS NOT ABOUT AGING IT'S ABOUT YOU TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF AND HAVING THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOU LIVING SPACE
I have had a favourite cooker on the stove since I was like, 11, I think, and you know why??? it's not because I was getting older. It's because I WAS STARTING TO LEARN TO COOK AROUND THAT TIME (i think) AND I HAD TO USE THE STOVE
do you know why you are excited for new dish towels?? hint: it's not because you are old and boring. IT'S BECAUSE THEY ARE YOURS YOU GET TO CHOOSE THEM YOU GET TO TAKE CARE OF THEM YOU CAN APPRECIATE THEM BECAUSE YOU ACTUALLY USE THEM ALL THE TIME
YOU ARE NOT OLD AND BORING
YOU ARE JUST A PERSON IN CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE TAKING CARE OF THEMSELVES
and that's in no way sad or boring
That's fucking beautiful
thank you for coming to my TED talk
note: since this is the piss poor reading comprehension website and also the disabled website, i don't mean to say that it's wrong if you aren't in control of your life rn or can't take full care of yourself, i am just fed up with people who go "oh no i am so adult and boring now because buying new kind of toilet paper excites me" all the time
