These are some pages that I made as fanart for a fanfic i Really Love. It's something rare that I look back and actually kinda liking the result- 😂 I've been trying to improve my panels flow(?)/pacing And the Lettering- adding words in comics is pretty hard 🥺 if you had some insights, pls let me know ❤ or just give me what you think... First of all I love your Yugi, is so freaking adorable, big fan over here aaaaaa.

And okay we're gonna talk about comics. Oh boy. It's not a topic I dont like talking but it's something I get way too.... intense, even if I feel I don't have much to defend with. Anyway I'll try to not be so detailed and serious about it so I can bring a decent commentary!

Disclaimer that I have a lot of issues with the use of thought bubbles, but that's a me thing. Myself I try to avoid them so I can focus on a "show more, talk less" type of flow. So if I start talking about them it's because of that, not that you'r doing a bad thing or anything.

I like how you use the panels, by themselves and ignoring the dialogues, they work perfectly fine! I think my thing with the pacing is that I'd draw a 3-4 pages comics instead of 2 for this scene alone. It's a pain I know, but I think for this type of scenario adding a little more of time could help to appreciate some details, like Kaiba being notoriously angry, the moment he touches Yugi's forehead, etc. But this is also a very personal opinion because I'm a sucker for very sloooow interactions, so all this I'm saying is for the sake of a slower pacing. Sadly you gotta draw more or write less if you want to get that effect, also you can get in a situation where things end up vague and ugh, what a pain hjdfhjhds.

I have a serious problem with dialogue bubbles, I never know where to put them Dx. I always feel they're on the way or that they hinder the reading or that they look straight up ugly hahahaha. I think you use a good space for them! they're not in the way of the faces or important scenes, but I can see you needed to add arrows for the conversation to work. In my opinion the dialogue works perfectly without the arrows. We all know there are two people talking so having only the faces on the bubbles was enough to understand who was talking and what order follow.

Now, if you want to work on bubbles without using the faces to show who's talking and don't lose the order in the way, I could recommend something like this:

Sorry if it looks way too clumsy! But a thing we artist have to deal is how the order of the bubbles affects on the flow of the dialogue. Specially when we don't have a specific way to show how the person talks (for example japaneses have many ways to show character's expression so it's easier for them to identify it.) So we need to focus on the flow.

A wonderful person who talks TONS of this matter is the motherfucker Scott McCoud!

This is just an example of how dialogues can contribute to the time and spaces and how the order affects the reading. This is not the exact example for what I mean but Scott is a badass of the comic and the complexity of it.

Understanding Comics The invisible Art is a masterpiece, I blame him for making me doubt is I'm doing a good job or not.

Okay before I go way too into this, one last thing and this is personal opinion. I love white background but you gotta be very careful to not make it look like lazyness. You don't need to draw a full background but maybe adding some shading can help to make the illusion of space rather than having a blank space. Of course this is just my opinion.

Anyway, I really like how you work! my huge recommendation would be to simply take your time on it, I feel it shows a bit of impatience or nerviousness, but that's just my idea. So far you're going a good way on creating comics and I'd love to see more of them :3

Writing Fine Line: To Be So Lonely

A/N: Hey lovies!! 6 songs down, 6 songs to go 💚

SUMMARY: YN and Harry have known each other since 2010 when they were put in a band together called One Direction. Since the band split up, YN and Harry have kept in close contact, may or may not have grown deeper feelings for one another and have continued to help each other create music. After having helped Harry with HS1, he has invited YN back again to Malibu to help make Fine Line. This was how To Be So Lonely was made. (5.3K)

Tonight was actually going alright. 

It’s the first time YN is able to put a stop to the way Harry crawled back into her mind since their break up (it wasn't the first and it surely wouldn't be the last) a few weeks ago. Instead of wallowing the day away in her bed or worse, getting tipsy and drunk calling her ex, she takes up her friend's offer of a fancy night out. She has a close knit group of friends, people she knows from her days first venturing out as a solo artist and some of her dancer friends from her tour crew. 

She’s dolled herself up to the nines. She slipped into a velvet blue dress that whenever she turned, the fabric would have a purple hue to it. It hugs all of her curves the right way, showing off the parts of herself that she loves the most. Her hair is styled up and out of her face with her staple set of rings sparkling across her fingers. 

Going out to dinner—in public in general—can cause an uproar with paparazzi and social media, fans immediately knowing her location before she can even get there herself. 

So it shouldn't come to a surprise that once she gets out of her Range Rover and heads into the fancy restaurant, she immediately has to duck her head down to avoid the blinding flashes from the paparazzi cameras. Moving past and avoiding the crude, invasive questions they scream at her to answer.

What does come as a surprise is while she's in the middle of telling a story to the group, laughing and genuinely enjoying herself, her phone lights up with Mitch’s name popping up on her screen, the sound of a classic old telephone ringtone cuts through the space of the private room they reserved.

Mitch isn't much of a caller, mostly preferring to text his short answers than verbally say them over the phone. 

So after giving her friend group an apologetic look and excusing herself from the table, YN quickly slides her finger across the screen and presses her phone to her ear.

"Mitch?"

"YN, hey I'm so sorry. I don't mean to drop this on you—just give me my keys, Mitchy." As much as he can give her butterflies by merely saying her name, hearing Harry’s voice this time made her stomach drop. 

"Mitch, what's going on?"

"He saw the pap pictures of you going out tonight and...well, he got a bit tipsy." 

No, tipsy Harry didn't sound like that. He didn't sound cuddly and giggly like he usually does when he’s had a few fruit flavored drinks. His words sounded slurred and raspy.

“Where are you?”

“Your house.” 

"I'll be there in 10 minutes." YN doesn’t even think twice about her decision. She’d drop everything and anything when it comes to something concerning Harry, especially when he’s not in the right state of mind like he certainly is now. Whether that be when he’s too much in his head before going on stage, angry to the point of not making rational decisions (a rare one but it still happens), or when he’s too intoxicated to function.

Should it be her job to go after him like this? No. Despite the current state of their romantic relationship, is he still her best friend above all else? Of course. Would Harry do the same if the roles were reversed? In a heartbeat. 

So after having slapped on a smile with a promise to have dinner with them as soon as she can and making sure to have their tab covered, YN drives her foot to the petal in a rush to get home. 

The thoughts running through her mind are going a thousand miles a minute. She’s trying to keep her heart from coming up and out of her throat at the thought of how Harry came to his current state of being for the night. 

Has this happened before? Was Harry suffering as much as she was? How many times has Mitch been the one to take care of Harry when he gets like this? Has he been reaching for the bottle more and more lately?

So instead of letting her anxiety get the best of her, she shakes her head in hopes to clear her mind and begins to mentally prepare herself for seeing Harry again after so long...and that doesn't seem to be helping much either.

“Come on, man. It’s time to go home.” Mitch tries to coax Harry away from YN’s yellow front door.

“Where do you think I am?” Harry glares at his friend before a hiccup shakes his upper half, sticking his hand back out. “Just gimme my—my keys and I can go inside.” 

The headlights from YN’s car shine across Harry’s face and Mitch lets out a sigh of relief at the sight of her coming out of her car.

“What’s going on?” The crease between her eyebrows have been there since she walked out of the restaurant. 

“I’m so sorry for bringing him here. I either had to drive him or he was gonna drive himself.” She spots his drunken pink eyes from where she’s standing and she’s grateful that Harry didn’t go through with his actions. "Haven't been able to get him away from the door."

She wants to ask Mitch all of the questions that have been rushing through her head on the drive over here. 

Has he been able to draw him away from her door in the past?

YN instead swallows back her inquiries and gives her friend a sad smile.

“Thank you, Mitch. You can go now, I got it from here.”

“You sure? M’more than willing to stay and help you.”

“I appreciate it but this is something I need to take care of myself.”

“Please call me if you need anything.” She nods before walking into Mitch’s outreached arms. It’s a quick hug with an even quicker kiss to the cheek but it has Harry groaning from where he’s leaning against the door.

“You too, Mitchy?” He slurs out in a high-pitched, whiny tone.

If it were under different circumstances, she’d probably think further about how cute the nickname is for their oh-so-serious friend but right now, it only has her rolling her eyes. She grabs his hand and replaces Harry’s car keys with hers.

“Take my car. I’ll drive him back tomorrow.” 

After some hesitation and one final look over to Harry’s slouched figure, Mitch reluctantly nods before getting in her car and pulling out of the driveway.

When she sees the car’s tail lights disappear after turning a corner, she takes in a deep breath in preparation of what’s to come. She doesn’t look at Harry as she approaches the door, quickly finding her house key to push it through the lock.

“Hey, lovie.” Harry gives her a cheeky smile, happy that he got his way and she’s here with him. She’s trying her hardest to not let her anger come through, there’s no use in trying to argue when he’s in this state. 

But he pulls at her last straw when he slurs out a “Y’look so beautiful,” and attempts to tuck a piece of hair behind her ear only to be pushed away by her dismissive hand. He almost trips over his own feet once the door is pushed open, unable to steady himself. 

He’s a literal child with an even childish attitude.

“You’re an arrogant son of a bitch.” YN spits out while she leads his drunk body inside her house. All of his weight leaning on her as they both stumble inside. “You know that don’t you?”

“I know, baby. M’sorry.” Harry's words slur as they tumble out of his mouth. His head leans on hers and the smell of alcohol on his breath almost causes her to gag. 

“Don’t call me that.” YN snaps at him as she drops his body on her couch. His shoulders slouch against the back of the couch and he can barely hold his head up. 

“Right. I forgot that you, you just want to be friends.” Harry takes in a deep breath and closes his eyes. He furrowed his eyebrows before saying, “M’sorry baby.”

“Don’t call me that,” YN repeats herself. “I mean it.” 

Walking over to her fireplace, she takes out a match from the little box before scrapping it against the rough surface on the side. Once there’s a small fire, she brings it down to one of the candles on the mantle in hopes to mask the drunken smell from her ex’s breath. She makes a small circle with her lips, her cheeks puff out for merely a second as she blows out the small flame. 

“I see your face everywhere I go." Harry's words slur behind her. "You’re just...everywhere.” 

YN looks over her shoulder to her ex, her best friend. She doesn’t say anything, not trusting her own voice or the words that want to push past her lips.

She can’t attempt to explain her feelings now, not when he’s like this. She can’t tell him that she sees him, too. That there isn't a day that goes by where she doesn’t hear his name, hear his song play on the radio, or get asked questions about him when she’s being interviewed on national television.

Instead, she walks past his limp body on her couch and goes into her kitchen to get him a glass of water. The sound of her heels clicking against her hardwood floors ring loudly through his ears. It's almost painful to hear, but he welcomes the noise over the silence.

“Did you ever really love me?” He whimpers out, so quietly that she might have missed it if she wasn't listening carefully.

Why would he ask such a thing? 

She knows he would never have the courage to ask her this when he’s sober, so there’s no harm in answering him truthfully if there’s a high chance he won’t remember anything in the morning, right?

When she walks back over to him, she almost can’t look into his wide, pink eyes. “Loving you was torture,” She looks down at the glass in her hands. “But I enjoyed every second of it.”

She can’t really read his facial expression. In a way, that gives her some comfort. She doesn’t want to know his response or what his answer would be to the question. 

“Here, drink up.” YN says, handing him the glass.

“You’re too good for me,” He says into the rim of the cup before taking a generous gulp. “Don’t deserve yeh.”

She sits on the coffee table in front of him and takes off her heels. So much for dressing up tonight. 

“I meant it when I said you look beautiful tonight.”

“Why are you here, Harry?” YN steers away from his question. She feels the irritation radiate through her body when she sees him raise a shoulder to his ear, turning the empty glass between his hands.

“Now you don’t have anything to say?” She hates the way the words taste on her tongue. It’s like she’s scolding a child, trying to sway an answer out of him.

“M’sorry.” He murmurs out, his chin to his chest.

“What are you sorry for?” She’s almost seeing red at this point as Harry lifts his shoulders in a shrug once more. 

She didn’t need to do this. She could have still been sitting with her friends back in that restaurant, laughing and drinking the night away.

She cares for Harry, more than she’d like to admit. It hurts her to see him this way but she cannot—will not—stand for his childish behavior.

“Don’t apologize if you don’t even know why you’re doing it, Harry. Apologize when you actually mean it.” YN takes in a deep breath, her voice breaking at the end. 

When she’s met with silence, she wordlessly nods with her lips in a tight line. “Good night, Harry.”

“Please, please don’t go.” She’s just about to ignore his plea, ready to just go to bed and deal with him in the morning. But her heart breaks in two at the sound of a sob erupting from his chest. “I c-can’t be a-alone.” 

His chest quickly begins to rise up and down, his eyes wide and filled with panic. 

Throughout the years of knowing him, she can count the number of times she's seen him like this on one hand. He's not merely her drunken ex, he's her broken best friend.

“Hey, hey. Shush. It’s alright. M’right here.” YN quickly sits on the couch next to him and wraps her arms around his shaky body. 

“Don’t wanna—can’t be alone.” He whispers into the crook of her neck, mushing his body as close to hers as he possibly can. “M’so sorry, lovie.”

She’s not quite sure what in particular he’s apologizing for, she's not even sure he knows why, but she doesn’t want to question him right now.

“M’right here. We’ll be alright, H. We always are and always will be.” YN rakes her fingers through his curly locks, smoothing him until he’s calmed down and his breathing evens out. 

She doesn’t know how long they’ve stayed like this, 10 minutes, an hour? All she knows is that while he’s asleep with his head on her lap, she’s not gonna shut her eyes any time soon, too wired from tonight’s events to even consider sleeping as an option.

“We’ll be alright.” YN breathes out into her living room, continuing to rake her fingers gently over his scalp. 

...

"Read ‘em and weep, boys." YN says in excitement as she lays her cards down on the patio table, displaying her winning hand.

The men around the table groan as they throw down their playing cards in the middle of the table.

“What!” Jeff stands up and leans over the wooden table to get a good look at her cards, disbelief written all over his face. Harry chuckles into the rim of his glass as she does a little dance in her seat before sliding the candy she won towards her. 

After spending a couple of days finishing up Canyon Moon and touching up on some of the previous songs they’ve created, the group decided to spend the night outside in the backyard patio that looks out to their secluded beach. Music plays in the background through the built-in speakers within the luxurious shade structure that covers the majority of the huge porch. Soft yellow fairy lights hang all along the branched roof of the shade, casting light over the group as they eat dinner, have a couple of drinks and play a friendly game of poker. 

Well, as friendly as a game can be when there are multiple competitive people playing.

"Alright, who needs a refill?" Harry asks and everyone raises up their glasses. 

YN quickly finishes off the rest of her drink before handing the glass back to Harry. She's getting a little buzzed, everyone is, and it’s all that the group needs after a long day in the studio. 

“Can I have extra strawberries in mine please?” She asks sweetly.

“You got it, baby.” Harry taps the underside of her chin with his curled index finger before swinging his leg over the bench they’re sat on. “Be back in a minute.”

Tyler helps Harry collect everyone's cups before both of them head off inside.

"Needa hit what you English folk call the loo." Kid says, getting up from his seat.

“I shall do the same.” Jeff playfully points to YN. “When I get back, I want a re-match, missy.”

“Give it a rest, mate. Just hate seeing you loose.” She snickers at Harry’s manager, giggling when he takes a dramatic offense to her words by putting a hand to his chest.

“Ok, I was just going e-easy on you this last round." He hiccups. "Prepare to face defeat.”

YN just rolls her eyes as she watches the man scurry off inside the house.

“And then there were two.” She teases at the guitarist sitting across from her.

"Hey, I uh actually wanted to ask you something." Mitch says, not meeting her eyes as he collects everyones cards.

"Sorry mate, but I don't think Sarah would like the idea of us going out on a date." YN smirks before popping a sweet into her mouth, giving her friend a cheeky smile.

"Gross. Like I'd ever want to go out with you." Her jaw drops in a scoff, chucking a wrapped piece of candy at her friend.

"Oi! I'm a total catch. Thank you very much.” Mitch gives her a small smile at her laugh. 

When they first met, it honestly took a bit for her to figure him out and have him open up. He wasn’t a fan of Harry and YN’s music when they were in One Direction, not being familiar with their work was more of a positive thing than it was a negative.

Harry, being Harry, loves to welcome in new friends and people he works with with open arms, talking with them like they’ve known each other for years. It’s especially fun to watch their relations blossom. Harry, the social butterfly, with Mitch, the introvert.

With YN, she’s learned that they mostly connect over music. Playing and knowing about guitars is one of the great loves of her life. Sometimes over breaks on tour or casual meet ups, the two enjoy breaking out their preferred instruments and have a relaxed jamming session. 

It took her a while to realize that his lack of conversation didn’t mean he was bored or disinterested in the topic, he was constantly listening. He spoke through his music and what an honor it was to hear what he had to say with his guitar.

It’s no wonder why her and Harry were so excited and giddy to see how Mitch and Sarah’s relationship has grown. Ms Jones has a grip on the guitarist like no one else has. 

Mitch has definitely come out of his shell more and more each time YN sees him. His small, barely there smile, like the one he has now, lets her know that he’s having a good time.

“Okay, okay. What's up?" YN says after she’s calmed down a bit. There’s a pregnant pause between the two before he breaks the silence.

"You alright? Everything good with you?"

Well that wasn't what she expected him to ask.

"Yeah, totally. Why do you ask?"

“It’s just, it's starting to get really obvious that all the songs are about you in some way shape or form.”

“I would respectfully disagree.” YN leans her elbows on the table, twisting a candy wrapper through her fingers. She knows she’s lying but how does one respond to something like that? When she looks up at Mitch, he’s giving her a knowing look. “What?”

“You’re really going to make me say it.”

“Say what?”

"Him always referring to you being golden."

YN lifts a shoulder to her ear. "That could mean anything—"

"Him wanting to adore you while you obviously are against the idea of adoring anyone."

"A lot of people feel that way."

"Your voice memo is literally in one of the songs."

"Well, that was my idea to do that."

"And how he literally added your manager's name in this last song."

"A lot of people are named Jenny. People aren't gonna know the difference. It's like Diana, or Olivia or Townes."

Okay, she knows that last one was a bit of a stretch but she has a point to make nonetheless.

Mitch looks to her with a squint of his eyes. "...what does that even mean?"

She squints her eyes back at him, leaning further onto the table.

"Still haven't listened to a One Direction song, huh?"

"Except for the ones he makes me play?" YN lets out a laugh and sees a small smile growing on his lips. It is quite funny to see Mitch, a very serious musician—from the way he plays to his facial expressions—play a song that had every preteen girl's hearts throbbing in 2010.

"He's just...writing from a place of personal experience. I've done it plenty and it's not a crime for him to do so either. Critics and fans and social media are always gonna speculate what each song means. It wouldn't be the first time and it's for sure not gonna be the last.” She gives him a dismissive wave of her hand. “He's gonna be fine."

"It's not him I'm concerned about here though." Her furrowed eyes are enough for him to continue. "I mean, of course I'm worried about him because even though Golden sounds like rainbows and sunshine, it's a depressing song. A song about you. Just wanna make sure that you're okay with everything that's happening. Know that Cherry took a little bit out of you.”

She has to admit, Mitch’s words bring her in for a bit of a surprise. He’s not one to usually talk about stuff like this, making sure that she’s emotionally alright for making this album—for being around her ex, their friend, in this way. She expects something like this to come from her other close friends, the situation certainly calls for some speculation and reassurance from an outsider’s perspective. 

So it warms her heart to know that Mitchell Rowland, the most quiet and reserved man she’s ever met, went out of his way to ask her if she’s ok. 

“Thanks for the concern, buddy. I know my limits, yeh know? Wouldn’t be here if I wasn't totally comfortable and if I happen to be then I'll be on my way.”

Mitch nods before going back to the stack of cards in his hands. 

Although she doesn’t want to make a big deal out of his concern, as she knows it will only ruin the moment, she honestly couldn’t be bothered with wanting to hold back from showing her affection for the man across from her. 

So while he shuffles and mixes the cards, she walks around the other side of the table, swings her leg over his bench to face him and wraps her arms around his shoulders. It takes a second but Mitch eventually turns his body to hers, brings his arms around her torso, and reciprocates the friendly sentiment. 

“I appreciate you,” She says into his shoulder, smiling when she feels his hand rub circles around her back before feeling his lips press a friendly kiss to her temple. 

"Love you." The rough texture of his facial hair rubs against her skin.

"Love you, too." 

After a beat, he pulls his head back slightly before saying, “Don’t get it twisted, you’re still annoying.” 

YN lets out a laugh over his shoulder, hearing the knowing smile on his face.

“Duly noted.”

"What's goin' on?" YN looks up to see Harry standing by the doorway with an array of drinks on a tray. 

"Just letting Mitch in on my secret to winning poker." He knows she’s lying, but decides not to pry and shake off the weird feeling in his stomach.

"Oh yeah? Gonna tell me?" Harry says as he sets down everyone’s drinks.

"Sworn into secrecy dude.”

When Mitch looks back to YN, they quietly chuckle to each other like there’s an inside joke he clearly was not part of. Before Harry can say anything, the sound of a clap behind him knocks him from his thoughts.

"Are you ready to face the wrath that is Jeffery Azoff?"

Harry doesn't mind that YN stays seated next to Mitch for the rest of the night. Moreso, he doesn’t want to mind it. He obviously knows that nothing romantic will go on between his friends, but he can’t help the jealousy crawling under his skin. 

Especially when he watches her lean into Mitch, whispering in each other’s ears. Or when she puts a hand on his arm as she points out something in his card deck. The two, smiling and occasionally laughing between their candy bets.

He knows that he shouldn’t be bothered by it and maybe he’s just bothered that she’s not bothered by what’s been going on. After their shared kisses back at her place a couple of days ago, she hasn’t brought it up. To be fair, neither has he, but somewhere inside him hoped that she would. He knows she’s not one to usually shy away from vocalizing something that’s eating away at her.

Maybe this is her way of telling him that she really doesn’t want anything more than a friendship with him, that it’s all one sided. Maybe she was able to hear his worried thoughts about that drunken night earlier this year and has decided that it was too much for her. Who can blame her?

“What's on your mind?” YN bumps her hip with Harry’s as he’s arms deep in washing the dishes from tonight. His manager and the other producers have gone to bed, too tipsy to keep their eyes open any longer. Mitch helps put away all the leftover food made as the two take over dish duty.

He decides to answer her truthfully and hands her another plate to dry. “I'm confused.”

“About?” She softly questions, wiping the dish cloth over the plate.

“Can’t really pinpoint it, to be honest.” 

"Well you know what that means." YN sighs out as she puts away the dishware, giving him a small smile afterwards.

"And what's that?" When he hands her another plate, he tries not to concentrate on the lingering touch of her fingers brushing against his.

"You're gonna have to write about it."

It took Harry less than 30 minutes to complete the lyrics for the song. YN didn’t really know what to expect from the new song but after hearing Harry off-handedly sing it to her, she’s come to the realization that he remembered a lot more of that drunken night than she expected him to.

He was a bit hesitant to share the song with her at first and rightfully so. Music is the best way that the both of them are able to communicate their feelings, whether it be to one another or not. 

I was away

And I'm just an arrogant son of a bitch

Who can't admit when he's sorry

Not only was Harry able to figure out his feelings from that night, but she’s surprised to see how aware he was of what happened. It makes her second guess whether he really was out of it that night or not. 

Don't call me "baby" again

It's hard for me to go home

Be so lonely

Was this Harry finally giving up on her? On their back and forth relationship? Was this cat and mouse game coming to its enviable end?

I just hope you see me in a little better light

Do you think it's easy being of the jealous kind?

Stubborn. It's one if the—if not the first—word that Harry would use to describe YN. Knowing her for as long as he has, he knows that despite all her media training, she's a stubborn little thing to anyone or anything. He knows that while he walks around with an ego too big to fit through the door, her's comes in at a close second. 

It's part of the reason why she doesn't tell him that his jealousy, his possessiveness, is equally shared.

'Cause I miss the shape of your lips

You'll win, it's just a trick

And this is it, so I'm sorry

“I think this song is a really good example of showing how you can be in a room full of people but still feel lonely.” YN fidgets with the rings on her fingers, knowing that feeling all too well. "You can sort of seem fine on the outside, have the world in the palm of your hand, but there's a whole 'nother thing going on that people don't see."

Her lips tug up to a soft smile. “Harry wrote this song quite quickly. It was the putting it all together part that really threw us in for a loop.”

"What if you just do the song as an acapella?" YN suggests only for Harry to groan into his hands. 

YN, Harry, and Mitch are seated around each other in the recording room. To Be So Lonely’s lyrics have been completed, it kind of wrote itself to be honest, but it was the instrumental portion of the song that has stumped the artists. 

Mitch is on one of the stools with an acoustic guitar,  Harry sits in front of the piano and YN sits comfortably on the floor with her guitalele on her lap. 

“They’re [guitalele] really good for writing on, because you can travel with them. I had one of those with me in Japan, so they’re really good for spur-of-the-moment ideas.” Harry says with a nod. “YN uses them quite often and they have a sort of unique sound to ‘em that we both really like.”

It’s well into the hours of the night and for the past few hours, the three of them have been trying out various melodies for the song; a ballad, a pop song, alternative rock. Nothing seems to stick.

“I can’t make any good songs.” Harry whines into his hands before bringing them up to rake through his hair.

“Alright, chill out.” YN looks at her frustrated friend with a pointed look, ready to not let him go into this self-deprecating state of mind. “I have a couple of voice notes on my phone with some melodies I came up with on the cuff. There’s got to be something on there that we can use, ok?”

Once she sees Harry give her a nod, she goes around to pat her pockets.

“Hey, has anyone seen my phone? Can someone call me?”

“I got it.” After a couple of clicks on Mitch’s phone, the sound of her classic telephone ringtone sounds somewhere behind her. Crawling over to the spot where her phone lies, she unlocks it with a quick type of her password.

“That’s your ringtone for me? Y’make it sound like an old man’s calling you.”

“I mean, you are pushing 31, mate.” She teases, still looking through her notes.

As Mitch is about to throw a witty comeback, an idea suddenly comes to mind.

“Wait, did you have that same ringtone when I called you that night?”

“Haven’t changed it since I met you. Why?” 

“Can I see that for a sec?" Mitch makes a beckoning motion with his hand at her guitalele in her lap. 

“If you think I’m changing it now, you are sadly mistaken, my friend.” 

Mitch doesn’t respond, instead he does a couple of experimental pucks on the strings. His eyebrows are furrowed, like he's trying to find the right key. 

YN just looks at him lazily, her eyelids feeling heavy as she slowly blinks at Mitch, tired from tonight's brainstorming session.

With a sigh, she goes back to her voice notes and as she's about to hit play on one, she hears Mitch pluck some notes at the base before strumming his finger quickly up and down the strings, ending it with a tap on the wood and repeating the melody.  

Harry’s head lifts from its position resting on top of the piano before looking to YN. She turns her gaze from their friend to Harry and no words need to be exchanged. It’s been decided.

The classic telephone ringtone.

“Mitch has a habit of not speaking a lot, and then every now and again he will kinda go like ‘Oh, I have this idea.’” Harry chuckles. “He’s really just a genius. The song is just really like articulation of Mitch’s brain. Even when Mitch plays to himself, he’s got the swing.”

131. Torchwood Archives volume 1

Owned: No, library Page count: Unknown/not numbered My summary: Leonardo da Vinci falls through the Rift. Captain Jack battles with a selkie. Andy spends a whole week dying over and over. Gwen bugs an alien drug ring. Ianto sees the ghosts of the future. Just another day for Torchwood. My rating: 2.5/5 My commentary:

I love Torchwood. Yes, it was weird; sure, it's got more misses than hits. But overall, it was strange in some good ways, there were some great episodes and performances, and it was charming enough in its time. (Apart from the last series, but we don't talk about that.) Despite the fact that Torchwood hasn't been on air in years, it's still continuing in the form of Big Finish audio dramas, which have developed quite a little continuity of their own. I don't have the cash to listen to Big Finish, but I remember liking the Torchwood novels when they were a thing, and so when I saw this comic on the shelf, I decided to give it a shot. It's a collection of short stories from the Torchwood universe, and unfortunately I did not care throughout the whole thing. Sorry.

The thing with these ones is that they're just…nothing stories. There's not a lot of character work going on in much of them, and what little there is isn't really anything to write home about. I really took umbrage with the way that Tosh and Owen are sidelined - Gwen, Jack, and Ianto get focus stories, and even PC Andy gets more page-time than Tosh and Owen. Maybe because this was written post-Children of Earth, but surely that's a better reason to give Tosh and Owen a bit of love? It's particularly a bad look that the one non-white member of the main cast just gets absolutely nothing in this collection. The art also annoyed me - different stories have different artists, but a lot of the time I couldn't tell who was who. There's a moment in Ianto's story where Captain John shows up, but they didn't tell you who he was and he just looked like another guy, so it took pages until someone called him by name before I had a handle on what was happening. It's so disappointing, the comics medium could give so many opportunities for a series like Torchwood, but the whole thing was just so…meh.

Next, horror on a Scottish isle, and the legacy of a tattooed oathbreaker.

I’ll be waiting for your commentaries on Doyoung youth documentary! I think you’re really gonna like a lot of the contents during this promotional era. Thankful that promotion nowadays are not just about going to variety shows. Thanks to social media, we got to see him appear to talk shows and see him talks more. We’re seeing more of Doyoung who is not part of NCT. His thought process, his interaction with people outside of his circle or out of his field. I can see he’s a lot more confident too. He really says ‘This is who I really am’ through this era (album-wise and personality-wise). Despite being ambitious he’s also aware that this album will not appeal to all due to people’s preference. But most important thing to him, he’s satisfied with it. I learnt a lot from him through this album. Once again, you’re really gonna enjoy it!!

*sobs* Yeah, only in June. I'm in a new country, and the prices for mobile internet are insane here. Plus there are complications with buying a package in the first place giving my location and lack of a credit card. I have to severely safe on data. Unlimited is not even an option.

I see that Doyoung goes on a lot of programmes where he can sing live. It's really great he has the opportunity to do now what he had been longing for for so long (remember how he complained about his parts in NCT songs? "I will do what I have to do"). All his patience and perseverance is paying off.

I think, it is extremely hard to wait for postponed gratification (when an idol starts to invest blood and tears since day one of a trainee life), to see other, younger people, making it or doing what you want to do (like freshly debuted groups achieving more awards than NCT), add to it the loom of enlistment over male idols. Fortunately, in comparison to poor Taeil, and even Taeyong to a degree, Doyoung lucked out with the debut time window. I'm really happy for him and for his fans.

I also suppose that he got a full album because he found those additional 3 songs himself (one he wrote, one from Lucy's guy, maybe Kenzie's or the one with Mark can be counted as the 3d). As it is less about money, and more about finding enough of good songs that can go together. The songs were collected over a long time as well (Tae had less than a year after Shalala).

I said before that I don't find idol Jaehyun interesting, he is bland to me. (His real self I'm sure I will like, what's with the love for arts, old things and jazz). Doyoung is a different case, but mostly because I invest in knowing him and see past his fake facade of a cute trembling bunny. The real Doyoung is tenfold more charming than his idol image that he developed over the years in apprehension of antis and not his NCT fans. After his shift in image (from savage) there always was a difference between what he allowed to show being in a group setting with other 127 members versus his communication with his own fans. With his fans he was more honest (Doyoung/Dongyoung divide, fake boyfriend pictures, etc). And as a soloist he is even more sincere. I'm looking forward to seeing him open up in those interviews (he will never be not self-censored, but still).

I thought yesterday about Doyoung's words about standing out. To me, he is a more unusual and rare individual than even Taeyong. I guess "tortured artist" is a well-explored personality, heh. There are many of them in the industry. Meanwhile a "tribal chief" could be more often found behind the scenes, not on the pop-stage. And if they exist, they are not "seen". The idol culture exposes artists, shows them from many sides, it is very different from how pop-scene is elsewhere.

Real Doyoung gives off a lot of energy. Active positive energy. Many idols are a subject of desire (sex appeal), adoration (cuteness) or empathy ("mistreatment"), not many are "class presidents" (Hanbin seems to be one, btw), those who push you.

I'm sorry, I'm rambling, but Do's chant guide cracked me up. It heavily reminded me how he persuaded his class to participate in a choir competetion and led them to win it.

Doyoung: "Repeat after me. You all emit light, you are all fireflies and stars, you are all kind and meant for great things. You are my support, I'm your support. If I can do it, you can do it. Do like me, do better than me. Sing with me."

I just feel like the pining after your team captain who you now do know is gay except it’s because she’s dating a rich girl who’s also very hot is just a whole lot more fun than what they had going on in canon because. girls but sports au. sooo in love w that. also I don’t think makorra would get together in b1 like canon did for a couple reasons. for one, the girl trauma in addition to general trauma of being a homeless orphan. touch and gestures of affection from a person she doesn’t know well yet would probably be a no-no, and korra seems like a very touchy person, just in the natural way that her space is yours and your space is hers. also her energy? like obviously mako would come around but korra in b1 is so much more excited about the world than mako and I think that would kind of, like, intimidate her. (<-also reasons makorra could’ve worked later on but not when they happened) but as the series progresses, korra mellows and mako gets used to her. it works.

but then how does masami happen so early? because asami is the moon to korra’s sun. she’s calm and a careful thinker and after korra’s exuberance breaks down mako’s walls a little bit, asami would be able to slip in being everything mako imagines herself wanting. also more than financially stable. so masami becomes a thing, and korra is jealous, but she’s not sure of who which I personally think is so funny

Every issue, reporters from PRO WRESTLING ILLUSTRATED will participate in an incisive press conference with a top wrestling star. The questions will be demanding. And the answers will reveal the innermost thoughts of the giants of the sport.

JERRY LAWLER

[Lawler and Vince McMahon make for an interesting broadcasting duo on WWF Monday Night Raw telecasts. “The King” thinks WWF telecasts would be more entertaining if he alone did the commentary.]

JERRY LAWLER EXEMPLIFIES the term renaissance man. Besides being wrestling’s premiere monarch, Lawler has displayed his skills as a cartoonist and has shown promise as a color commentator on WWF telecasts.

Lately, though, he has taken the latter to extremes. Not content with just wrestling or just commentating, Lawler decided to try combining the two. On two occasions, he wrestled preliminary WWF opponents with a wireless microphone in tow. The intent of this was not to use the microphone as a weapon (though he ended up doing that), but rather to give Lawler a chance to do his own commentary during the match–to show his skills in both vocations.

Lawler’s controversial ways earn him the ire of fans and journalists. Yet he still remains a hot commodity for interviews. When editors of PRO WRESTLING ILLUSTRATED approached him about participating in this issue’s “Press Conference,” he initially refused. He claimed that he was weary of the “stupid and inane” questions from the “peasants of journalism.”

After some persuasion, Lawler agreed, but on his terms. He would select the interviewer. With the terms set, the only issue left unresolved was when. Days after he agreed, he surprised us with a phone call. “I got it,” he said. “I’ll fax you the transcript now.” Shocked by the sudden completion of this assignment, we asked Lawler about the identity of the interviewer. 

“The best interviewer in the world,” he replied. “Me!” 

The following is a transcript of the “interview” Jerry Lawler conducted with Jerry Lawler. He met the conditions that PWI established, so we have an obligation to present this “dialogue” to you. 

JERRY LAWLER: Welcome to this very special press conference, Mr. oh,–I'm sorry–”King” Lawler, your royal highness. 

JERRY LAWLER: Thank you for that gracious welcome. I’d say I don’t deserve it, but we all know I do.

LAWLER: You certainly do. So tell me this: what’s it like to be the greatest wrestler and greatest commentator of all-time?

LAWLER: You’re forgetting about my artistic skills. I am also the greatest cartoonist of all-time. Forget that Steve Anderson kid. He couldn’t draw a crowd. He entered a “Draw Tippy” contest and his entry was sent back “Return to Sender, Said Drawing Stinks.”

[“The future of wrestling begins and ends with me. By the end of this year, I will be atop both the USWA and the WWF!”]

LAWLER: You are so correct, “King.” How could I forget? So tell me about your glorious career. What would you say is your greatest accomplishment?

LAWLER: You talk as if my career is over. It’s just beginning.

LAWLER: Okay then, your highness. Your greatest accomplishment thus far?

LAWLER: I could point to the countless titles that I have won. I could point to the historic matches that I have accentuated with brilliant commentary. But there is one achievement that stands out among the rest. 

LAWLER: Well, please don’t keep me in suspense, “King.” What would that be?

LAWLER: That would be totally embarrassing and humiliating the dysfunctional, in-bred brood known as the Hart family.

LAWLER: Funny, that’s just what I would have guessed.

LAWLER: Of course that excludes Owen. That apple fell far from that tree. In fact, that tree didn’t produce as many apples as it did ugly sticks.

LAWLER: If you look at it objectively, you’d have to say that they are an attractive group to say the least.

LAWLER: No doubt about it. The butcher shops in Calgary did great business. Stu and Helen had to buy pounds of pork chops to hang around each of their kids’ necks to get the dogs to play with them.

LAWLER: Stu and Helen aren’t exactly raving beauties themselves. 

LAWLER: When they first woke up in each other’s arms, they acted like coyotes.

LAWLER: Coyotes? LAWLER: They each gnawed off their arm out of fear of waking the other.

LAWLER: (Laughing) You’re so funny “King,” you ought to be a standup comedian. 

LAWLER: Who do you think was the original choice to replace Johnny Carson?

LAWLER: You?

LAWLER: You bet. They wanted my snappy repartee to be a part of The Tonight Show With Jerry Lawler. But I shot them down. That Jay Leno was a least-minute attempt to salvage their show.

LAWLER: Back to wrestling, the area you excel in most. Look into your crystal ball. Give us your keen insight on the future of wrestling.

LAWLER: The future of wrestling begins and ends with me. By the end of this year, I will be atop both the USWA and the WWF! 

[It doesn’t matter if it’s Duke Droese he’s in the ring with or any other WWF superstar–Lawler is always with or any other WWF superstar–Lawler is always very animated when he wrestles, but never more so than when he carried around a microphone during tow recent matches.]

LAWLER: What else is in store for wrestling?

LAWLER: I will become the only commentator on WWF shows. McMahon, Ross, and “Pee Wee” Pettengill will all realize the greatness that is Jerry Lawler. They will crawl back under the rocks where they got their broadcasting degrees.

LAWLER: And “Mr Perfect”?

LAWLER: With all due respect to him, I showed my superiority as a wrestler when I stripped him of that AWA belt. Even he would have to admit my greatness as a broadcaster. He could maybe serve as a sidekick, like Ed McMahon.

LAWLER: Anything else?

LAWLER: I will be elected WWF president. 

LAWLER: What would be your first executive decision as WWF president? LAWLER: Aside from changing the title to “King,” I would create a rule that says I can never be beaten. Wait, I wouldn’t have to do that. But these cheating wrestlers and referees would make it necessary.

LAWLER: These are bold predictions.

LAWLER: Did you see me manhandle Shawn Michaels on Raw? He was overwhelmed by my technical ability. Even though he got that fast three-count after that illegal kick of his, the match was as easy as the ones I did my commentary on. 

LAWLER: I’m glad you brought that up. Where did you get that great idea?

LAWLER: Well, being the brilliant wrestler that I am, I needed to make it more challenging. I was tired of the insane comments of McMahon, so I thought Who better to comment on “The King” than “The King” himself?! 

LAWLER: Kind of like this interview?

LAWLER: Absolutely. Michaels was lucky I left the mike in my dressing room that night. He would have received a physical and verbal lashing. Maybe next year the main event for WrestleMania will be WWF champion me vs. some nameless idiot, featuring the commentary of me! 

LAWLER: That would make for record-breaking pay per-view buy rates

LAWLER: Right, you are!

LAWLER: “King,” if you could, please comment on the following wrestlers.

LAWLER: Fire away, my friend! 

LAWLER: Goldust.

LAWLER: He may look like Tammy Faye Bakker, but he’s bringing prestige and class to that Intercontinental belt.

LAWLER: Yokozuna.

LAWLER: Even Slim Fast can’t cure him.

LAWLER: Diesel.

LAWLER: Finally woke up from that fan favorite slumber. It’s great to see him kickin’ his little buddy’s butt again! 

LAWLER: Ahmed Johnson.

LAWLER: Needs to lay off Bret Hart’s hair oil. It’s all over his body.

LAWLER: Mankind.

LAWLER: Makes that Unabomber guy look like a fine upstanding citizen.

[Lawler might never stop feuding with Bret Hart. he still thinks and talks about him a lot and considers embarrassing “The Hitman” and his family his greatest accomplishment.]

LAWLER: “Double-J” is a friend to the end. His talents almost match mine. 

LAWLER: So true. And, finally, Sunny.

LAWLER: Hey, you more than anyone know my policy on that one. I never kiss and tell. 

LAWLER: So, “King,” why don’t you tell the readers why you selected me to do the interview.

LAWLER: That’s the easiest question of all. I’ve been interviewed by all these yellow journalists at PWI. Lenker, Rosenbaum, Rodriguez, Anderson. I’m tired of the same stupid questions over and over again. 

LAWLER: Don’t forget all those misquotes. 

[Before Jesse James Armstong turned fan favorite in the USWA several months ago, Lawler humbled him a few times. He has been a wrestler for two decades, but he says his career is still just beginning.]

LAWLER: I can’t tell you how many times my words were twisted to make me look like a fool.

LAWLER: Then why me?

LAWLER: Because, frankly, you’re the only one I trust. Who knows “The King” better? Who better appreciates the many talents that I have? Definitely not that jealous staff of PWI.

My top 5 albums/eps for 2023

So it has come to the end of the year again, and despite now having been burnt twice doing this list before the last day of December only to listen to albums that should have made them within the year (Evermore and SOS, you will always be famous lmao), I'm ready to put out my top 5 albums/EPs that were released in 2023. And before anyone asks, no, rerecordings do not count and will not be considered for this list (sorry Taylor and Demi), same with deluxe versions (sorry Noah). So without further adieu, here are my top 5 albums/EPs for 2023.

5. The Age of Pleasure – Janelle Monae.

Following up Dirty Computer was always going to be a challenge. For those who haven't listened to Dirty Computer, I would literally call it one of the best albums of all time. And, at least for me, there's been a pattern with all artists where once they release an album I adore, I tend not to like the next one. But Janelle well and truly rose to the occasion. Much like Dirty Computer, I felt like I was transported to a different time and place listening to The Age of Pleasure. Each song is strong on it's own yet works so well together but are all different and distinguished enough to be memorable. Unfortunately I feel like as a whole this album did not get the hype that it deserved, but I am hoping that its AOTY grammy nomination will help give it that chance for more people to listen to it. All in all, the only, very subjective, reason that this album was not higher is because it's personally not relatable to me, and that's a major reason I listen to music. Like I said though, that is very subjective, and not at all a comment about its quality.

Favourite Song: Champagne Shit.

4. Guts – Olivia Rodrigo.

I'm just going to say it upfront, this album was too hated on just because it wasn't Sour and over weirdo rumours. Like do I think it'll be my favourite album of all time? No. But neither was Sour and Guts does just a good a job at being the perfect teenage album. And I say that in the most affectionate light because I think it is an art to capture an age like that. At the current time, Sour and Guts flip flop as my favourite Olivia project, and realistically, had I had Guts when I was closer to Olivia's age (rather than nearly a decade older), I think Guts would have taken the cake easily. It's relatable and unfortunately still socially relevant given its topics of age gaps in relationships, the way the music industry treats young female artists, and the guilt and shame that come from both of those. Likewise, its commentary on honesty about who you are and what you feel compared to what others want (extending as far as into the bonus track Scared of My Guitar) is a relatable and interesting theme throughout the album. As a whole, Olivia well and truly defied the sophomore album dip for me and I cannot wait to see what she does in the future (hopefully including an Australian tour lmao).

Favourite Song: The Grudge.

3. The Good Witch – Maisie Peters.

I'll say it outright, if this had come out in 2018/2019 (when I was 22 to 24 years old), it would have well and truly been my number one pick of the year and probably joined the ranks of albums like RED and Melodrama that define the year they were released for me just by being released right when I needed them. Even now with the distance of several years, I still think of the same person I would have then when listening to most of the songs on this album; I just get the benefit of being able to laugh along to the songs rather than be sad. Admittedly, it took a few listens, both with the standard and deluxe version to fully feel this album as a cohesive project (ironically You Signed Up For This, Maisie's first [non soundtrack] album, was too sonically cohesive for me to the point I prefer to listen to the songs on their own and The Good Witch initially felt not sonically cohesive enough), but once it hit, it hit. I remember my first listen and hearing There It Goes for the first time and having a quiet moment of judgement thinking that the wrong song was picked for the closer because how was it going to top There It Goes as a statement piece for the album... I was quickly proven wrong as History of Man started to play and I realised that not only was this the perfect closer, but objectively one of the best songs I've ever heard. So yes, as a whole, I think she made the right choices in terms of tracklist order and what was left on the deluxe. Additionally, jokingly I am grateful that we didn't have “you had a phone, you should have called” in 2018, for I would have acted irrationally lmao. Overall, after having seen Maisie live in February, this was one of my most anticipated albums of the year, and much like Olivia, Maisie has well and truly defied the sophomore album dip for me and I can see myself loving this album for years to come.

2. This Is Why – Paramore.

Over the years, I've had a very up and down relationship with Paramore. I loved their earlier work, fell off with (read: only liked a few songs per album) their self titled album and never fully made my way back to them... until now. To me (and I believe the intent of the album was), this album is like the encompassment of being alive in 2023. It's tired, it's angry, it holds back and even resents “positive” emotion at times, but ultimately it is just very human and reflective of where the world is right now. Of all of my choices this year, This Is Why is absolutely the album that is most relatable to myself in this current moment. And, having a year where I came back to pop rock music in general, this album just came at an absolutely ideal time for me. Overall, it is the album I feel has the most potential for me to look back on and be like “yeah, this was 2023 for me”, and for that alone, it has earned its spot on my ranking. My only regret is that I unfortunately did not get to see this album played live on tour due to other things going on in my life... almost as if I ran out of time (pun intended).

Rolling Up The Welcome Mat – Kelsea Ballerini.

So some of you may have realised the title of this post is my top 5 albums AND EPS and have realised that there is a direct lack of extended plays spoken about so far. Well surprise! Before this year, the only Kelsea song I had heard was The Other Girl featuring Halsey, but she's someone who I have wanted to listen to for a while. So when I heard that she was releasing an extended play, I jumped straight in and fell in love. I've never been through a divorce, but the emotions and grief of losing a relationship (romantic or otherwise) that you feel you fought so hard to grasp onto despite knowing it wasn't working and feeling like the other person wasn't trying resonated so deeply with me. And much like The Good Witch, I think if I had had this ep in 2018, it would have been the album I felt sad to, and honestly? To a point where I may have avoided it because it hit too close to home. But instead, all of its tracks were my top streamed tracks with nothing breaking them up. Overall it is an exemplary, relatable piece of work to which my only complaint is that I cannot buy it on CD (sorry, not much of a streamer) and while I haven't had a chance to go listen to Kelsea's other stuff (sorry it's been a busy year), I cannot wait to see what else she has in store, both in her past discography and future projects.

the statement to people about how taylor is no longer in contact whatsoever with him anymore lives rent free in my head because the tone is very clear, and it's just like...that month was a horrible fugue state. how did that even happen. :/ but...here's what i'm going to say: only you can decide what your boundaries and feelings are, and how things affect you.

the issues here are quite different. mh's racist misogynist commentary was not taylor's fault, as you said, it was the feeling of tacit tolerance or ignorance that had everyone upset, but the discussion regarding him as an individual also speaks to systemic problems. the drama with ariana is very icky, but ultimately a personal problem - the impact it has isn't on any specific community, but rather on the interpersonal relationships involved. i feel particularly for his wife and their baby, because if this came out of nowhere for her...i can't imagine how awful that would feel. taylor can more easily be separated because it wasn't her rhetoric, and she has disentangled herself, whereas this is a more direct action from ariana...idk it's cringey and difficult to talk about because it's not really our business, but suddenly we have to know about it.

i have very little familiarity with ariana as a musician (nothing against her whatsoever! i'm just not tuned in with her nor do i have the closeness and attachment to her music like i do with taylor), unfortunately most of what i know about her are those personal relationship headlines that get splashed everywhere, and i have a lot of sympathy for her regarding her ptsd, though of course that doesn't excuse her. i am so sorry you're going through a conflict with an artist that means a lot to you again. :( not condoning cheating whatsoever, it's wrong and it's hurtful, but the entertainment industry is so rife with affairs and stories like this that it doesn't necessarily shock me, even though it's a mess. tl;dr you're definitely allowed to feel grossed out by this and to deal with that however you need to, but as i will always say, you aren't required to eliminate her music from your life if it matters and has meaning to you.

regarding wicked, yeah lol you probably know i was starting to feel super excited about it and this situation definitely gives it a weird vibe. I think this is one of the most adorable figs ever. I had no idea this fig even existed, and was so bummed out when I saw a picture of him and realized I had missed him. I waited and waited for the fig maker to drop remainders, and I set my alarm so the second it was released I could snatch it up.

can we talk about how most all artists have developed their creative voice through the pandemic and the other horrible, life-changing things we've gone through? it's bittersweet, but so beautiful at the same time, to see my favs expressing themselves in such unique ways.

billie went from being purple to golden, harry is writing such sweet, coffee-shop-y, 90s soft disco/indie music, rosalia wrote a freaking collage instead of an album, mitski is getting louder in some strange way...

here's my opinion of harry's house:

music for a sushi restaurant: felt very 90s video game energy. i woke up and the first thing i did was listen to this, and i want to set it as my alarm. i would wake up with a smile on my face, ready to complete my little tasks of the day.

late night talking: i really just wanted to get up and dance. the harmonies are amazing. just. wow.

grapejuice: right off the bat, i'm horny. it's a hot song. H de horny, de harry, de "here i am: comeme todo el grapejuice". i want to have sex to it. the counting? my insides are twirly. but it's also weirdly romantic? like, we know, harry. you've had sex and it feels great.

as it was: disco crying. it feels like sobbing in the floor of a narrow bathroom at a party hosted by someone who hasn't acknowledged you all night. you can try to fool us with the jumping, fun music video but we know the truth. it's sad.

daylight: the lyrics. he's on the roof and they are on an airplane???? he's trying to reach them. i'm crying. also at 1:05 when the drums come in???? it feels so helpless. he's trying so hard. + the ending? devastating.

little freak: you're walking out of the bathroom at a party after crying. tear-streaked, lights everywhere but on you. you're insignificant. little do you know, someone is watching you as you look down to your feet. they're forcing their twitching hands to stay still, and if they don't concentrate hard enough, their body might just intuitively reach to you.

matilda: sobbing in big sister. literally, crying in the library in front of the books i study for everybody but myself. "you don't have to be sorry for doing it on your own". also that 7th on the outro?? goosebumps. i am a new person after listening to matilda.

cinema: okay i was definitely spiraling and this is the best. i can't wait to get the vinyl and listen to this at 2am. "do you think i'm cool too, or am i too into you?". that's it. the adlibs on the last 45 seconds. i'm alone this evening at home, and i'm definitely going to scream the adlibs. pray for the neighbours.

daydreaming: okay harry we get it. you're good at sex. you're a romantic guy.

keep driving: summer. listening to this song after failing my drivers test. driving in a convertible with a bandana on your hair, eyes closed and arms in the sky, laughing with your whole chest. did he just say side-boob? as he should.

satellite: bo burnham spiraling vibes. it's so bittersweet. you know when you're hanging out with a friend and someone they know comes up and starts talking to them? and you're standing on the side, waiting to be interesting enough to resume whatever you were doing? like a satellite.

boyfriends: i genuinely don't give a shit about harry's sexuality, but i hope he finds peace. now, onto the commentary. men are trash. it's vulnerability, it's trying over and over again. what's worse: it's asking him to try. it's him dismissing you. it's confusion. this one broke me.

love of my life: again - the harmonies??? hyperventilating rn, and im not even joking. a love letter. AAAAAH THE PIANO THINGY. I'M SHAKING. THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL.

Yep, that's Kotone, as far as I could work with the CAS to make something like her. And she's working as an Entertainer. Oh, what's that, Fuuka below? Yep, that's her, and she's working as an artist for a video game company of some kind.

That National Treasure poster? Blame Kotone. Although a poster for the Da Vinci Code would have been nice... oh, damn, I need to finish that book...

I have a bit of a... how do you call it... DVD commentary-type-thing about when I tried to create her: for one, I was really embarrassed when trying to make the two—honestly, I didn't put much effort into creating Kotone, I just thought a randomized Sim would work as a good base for her. So, I adjusted some of her features, followed the concept artwork that I could find on the Megami Tensei wiki for clothing ideas, and made her a little erratic. All was good.

Then the time came to make Fuuka. My will to create Sims based on Persona 3 just exploded, and I just went like "No, no, please, I don't want to do this anymore!" It didn't help much that the randomized Sims didn't make a great base for her. So, I went to NexusMods (where I got the Persona 3 hair CCs,) and decided to pick up those Kotone and Fuuka Sims that MissPiggeh made.

It did sound like a good idea at the time. I mean, it was nearly a godsend, being out of place with the style I usually make Sims with be damned, but it would have been much so had I followed the CC list that MissPiggeh put in the .zip file. So... yeah. She came out looking wrong—with 'em big 'ol eyes... Honestly, I have played with her being like that for a moment, before deciding, "No, that is wrong. I need to fix those eyes." I know that it is not very good and strikes away from her source material, but I did what I had to do.

I'm sorry, MissPiggeh, considering the "Modification permission" bit on the mod page. Very sorry.

I'm also very sorry for bogging this down with a piece of DVD commentary, playing the "I wrote the book they ignored" role...

Right, so, back to the thing.

For one, Makoto and Kotone do not get along pretty well. Well, they do somewhat get along, but they do get weird. No, I won't say that they hate each other, just too distant to make any sense. ...Hm, what kind of personal subtext could I put into this?

Speaking of getting along, Fuuka and Makoto do actually get along well.

Don't look at the bottom left. I really hate how Sims looks like that when the "Very Happy" Moodlet is on. It's as if that's the most horrifying thing I've seen, only second behind that Callia Maebey thing.

This is a strange headcanon. Fuuka being a Trekkie? I can see that this is getting more and more interesting and further away from the Persona canon. On the other hand, I thought she looked fairly adorable.

By the way, Makoto's back again.

I decided to let Kotone have a little socialization by putting her in a little pub at Henford. (That is the dumbest, yet most accurate fictional British countryside town I've ever heard.) So, yeah, she got to chat around, make a few connections and prevent a possible midlife crisis or something...

That is the gayest tie I've ever seen. I want one.

By the way, she also went to talk with Henford's probably-mayor (I think? I haven't checked.) She also happened to meet Blake and Yang during their little chat.

Usually I see all musicals in theaters and that's the only movies I go to theaters for but it's just a blah time right now and they were all close together. What did your friend think? I'm sure Broadway is better so not expecting much. Things have been pretty mixed overall and I saw you listened to the soundtrack anyway and hated it lol. Those are all good musicals, but I haven't listened to Shucked yet. I've heard independently owned and watched the Tony performance though. I'm not sure I would like it as much as other musicals honestly based on the music.

What are your favorite songs from This is Why? After Laughter is good but has a few skips for me compared to This is Why, but it could be that This is Why is only ten songs. Haha that's funny that your friends guessed that but ya it definitely is a more poppy sound if you like that style. It's also really good and can't choose favorites. I actually saw your post first cuz it was before I checked anything! I always think it's so interesting when other bands cover or reimagine a tribute album. This happened with Switchfoot last year when Top covered a song and I heard the original for the first time then the cover album. So I will probably do the same for this! I'm familiar with Burning down the house of course so I'm excited to see Hayley slay vocals and her take on it. I remember watching the pro shot of American Utopia but barely remember it. Anyway Tegan and Sara also did that with the anniversary of their album The Con and Hayley sang my fav song by them called Nineteen, another age song lol. I love her cover and also the original. I'm not sure if you are familiar with them or not..but they are twin sisters and I've loved them for years. They are also friends with Taylor and sang as a guest on the Red tour. You probably have..they had some popular songs around that time. They also have a memoir and show based on it I've been meaning to read/watch. Apparently they weren't as close as teens..lol. But I totally recommend their music if you haven't..the Con and they had an album in 2022 I enjoyed. So that was a little off topic..sorry, but Paramore also did this with their own album This is Why a few months ago! They asked artists to remix or sing their version of one of their songs. The only one I really enjoy is Remi Wolfs cover of You First honestly but I think it's a cool thing to do. She changed the vibes a bit but I still like the original more. They also had an extra song on there that was basically a vault song from After Laughter called Sanity so I think you would like it and give it a listen. I definitely connect You First and Karma as a pair, which shocked me when I first heard it since it mentioned karma, but one is more happy and one is more angry.

She has worn a few more green outfits since I last replied to you which makes me happy. The snake boots seemed like a hint even if I don't always like reading into her clothing so much but we mostly knew it was next anyway. I definitely know how you feel with Taylor and I have felt a little bit of the same but I'm hoping my mood will change when tour starts again or rep comes out. I still think there will be a documentary for all of that hopefully and it could be similar to the long pond one or just cover several different things, including the tour, rerecordings and this era of her career. I think After Laughter does kinda share the same sound of the 1975 too but that's also cuz they all had albums around the same time in 2014 so it could be the popular sound from that time but it's a cool comparison since I like them all. I'm glad you enjoy my comparisons..I'm wondering if they only make sense to me so I hope it makes sense to you too if you start listening. Another thing is their early albums focus on faith and religion as a theme but it's not necessary to interpret it that way if it bothers you. most of my friends who have seen the mean girls musical movie were like 😵‍💫 ... well ... it wasn't as bad as i expected ... but i did readjust my expectations after listening to the soundtrack. i think the consensus is that the girl who plays cady is simply miscast / the weakest link, like she's just vocally not ... as good ... and i really am just ... not to be a Snob ... but why did they cast her if she can't sing!!!! my entire tiktok FYP right now is criticizing her stupid with love :( i don't have anything against the actress, i just don't think she was right for the role / that they could've gotten someone who can act + sing. i also don't love the new song, but maybe it'll work better in the movie? curious to know your thoughts when you see it (no rush!).
