Pokemon pet peeve of mine, I get miffed when third stages of evolution take a drastic shift from where the first and second stages of the chain were going. Like, okay, I appreciate Beedrill, Butterfree, all the cocoon Pokemon because yeah they're going for the insect life cycle bit but then you have stuff like Dragonite and Samurott
I'm sorry Blaziken fans, your 'mon is cool but it's completely abandoned anything to do with being a chicken and still has the gall to make its name "Blaze Chicken."
I can see the throughline that leads from Bulbasaur to Ivysaur and then Venusaur, the dinosaur and the bulb are both getting bigger until the bulb blossoms. I can see what's going on with Sewaddle, Swadloon, and Leavanny, that feels like a reasonable progression. But then I see Litten and Torracat evolve into Incineroar and I feel like I'm missing something. Like the whole "heel wrestler" bit is fun I just wish there was like any sign of that in the previous designs.

So by this point it's pretty clear your favourite group of protagonists and rivals is the Kanto Trio (there's no way to miss that lol). But what would you say your 2nd favourite group is? And what personalitt headcanons and ships do you have for them? Or even pokémon they may have for that matter?
hello! everyone knows i actually explode and die if i dont constantly draw kantrio but i dont think i have second favourites! every generations squads got their own dynamic that i love. just that kantrio is the one i draw most cause yknow, its fun to think abt what theyre up to in the present day. though i could tell you abt what the johto kids are doing?
some of my ideas are that ethans a guy really weak for baby pkmn. a true master of the baby type. so i can imagine him as a dedicated daycare worker. silver, tall as hell guy who still maintains a very flashy goth look visits this cutesy little daycare sometimes just to see ethan, no ones sure though if theyre in a serious relationship. them in the daycare is v cute and funney though :)
kris may have really meant it when she said in pokemas that she pretty much wants to be an expert in EVERYTHING. feels like all she does is study hard and shes reeeeal tired. leaf, whos living her best life in a cool as hell van that has airbrushed venusaurs and charizards etc on the side, bothers her sometimes in her attempts to get kris moving again and join her ever growing commune.
uh im sorry if this is rly brief and i still have to think abt lyras role if i can.. i mostly like telling things thru drawings since writing for long is really difficult for me. but this is what im thinking of drawing some day!

I’ve had a couple of pokemon au ideas for a while so might as well share here!
Wilbur with a Sandslash. Just because. Also an Absol.
Dream with a Reuniclus bc of the face and the colors.
Tubbo with an Espurr bc both are small and cute but terrifying.
Philza should have at least a Staraptor and a Corviknight. Also a Dusknoir to symbolize his connection with Death (Mumza) since Dusknoir guides souls to the afterlife.
Sapnap with a Magmar. Self explanatory.
Fundy with a Vulpix and Mienshao.
Ranboo with an Umbreon is a nice idea.
Quackity with a Golduck, Porigon 2 and Ludicolo. All of them look like ducks to me.
Skeppy with a Carbink and a Barbaracle.
Sam with a Watchog, Conkeldurr and a Garchomp. Sort of like an “intimidating warden vibes”.
Puffy with an Ampharos, Perrserker and Milktank.
Eret should have a Togekiss and a Latias and Foolish should have a Latios to symbolize their connection (Eternal Duo).
Purpled should have a Toxicroak and Mightyena (for mercenary work).
I see Ponk with a Tropius to kinda symbolize the lemon trees. Also a Weavile bc Ponk likes to steal a lot.
Antfrost with a Pyroar. (Velvet would also have a Pyroar)
Schlatt with a Persian bc he gives off Giovanni vibes. Also a Tauros or Bouffalant.
Punz with a Lycanrock (day) and Ninjask.
Hannah with literally every flower themed Pokemon. In this case Florges, Roserade and Vileplume.
Slimecicle should also have a Sligoo friend!

gonna go through all of these, and i dont mind the long list!! i love to talk about pokemon aus it's so fun, i guess the only thing i'd ask is to break it up into parts so i can answer it separately? i don't want a singular post to get too long, but no worries!

• skeppy with barbaracle and carbink!! also avalugg
• sam deffo has a watchog, i also like garchomp for him. i also gave sam a ferrothorn, graveller (any self destruct pokemon b/c creeper), and a herdier (fran!)
• puffy yes!! i was gonna give her a mareep so eventually she'd get an ampharos, perrserker Your Mind. i also gave her jigglypuff! (captain puff-y)
• eret with a togekiss yes, also eternal duo with latios & latias friends that's cute i like it
• purpled toxicroak and mightyena 👍 also gave him a beheeyem (alien)
• YEAHH PONK TROPIUS AND WEAVILE! i dont have many ideas for ponk's team so i'll need help with that! i really like tropius for some reason so im happy to include one
• antfrost & velvet matching pyroars that's cute yes, just give antfrost a lot of the cat themed pokemon (maybe some bugs also since the ant part, maybe durant)
• yeah definitely schlatt persian & bouffalant, also gave him a dubwool, galvantula (fragrance man- spider), obstagoon, and maybe honchkrow
• punz lycanrock and ninjask 👍 i dont have anything written down for him actually :[
• hannah gets every flower themed pokemon, florges, roserade, and vileplume as you said, also cherrim and venusaur

hi, venusaur anon again! sorry it took me a bit to get back to you, we just got back from the pokémon center. nurse joy said that his behavior is being caused by stress, which is so immensely relieving. i was so worried he was sick. if you're wondering about my venusaur, i'm going to send him to live with my parents for a short while until i figure out what's making him so stressed. it'll hurt to do, but i can't stand the thought of him having to handle more than he should!
after looking over my team, i don't think the problem is with them, either. for reference, my team consists of a breloom, a maractus, a lurantis, and a newly added itty bitty bulbasaur. all of them get along well (albeit occasionally fighting over toys, which i break up). all of my neighbors are fairly nice, too, and so are their pokémon. can anything like smells bother a venusaur? are there any sort of allergies i might have missed before adopting him??
You mentioned that you recently added a Bulbasaur to your team. Perhaps your Venusaur’s sudden change in behavior is linked to jealousy? I know you said your Pokémon get along well, so it’s possible that’s not the problem, but it’s still worth looking into.
As for other causes, do you live in a more populated or secluded area? If you live in/near a city then the smells and noises from the city could be making your Venusaur irritable. It’s entirely possible that you missed potential allergies when you adopted him like you said, though it’s difficult to pinpoint what that might be. Allergies vary for each individual Pokémon. One of the most common allergies found in Pokémon are those related to food. If you feel like he’s allergic to something you’re feeding him then perhaps you should try changing his diet for a while to see if anything improves.

RWBYmon: Happy Huntresses
Y’ALL THOUGHT I WASN’T GONNA DO THIS HUH

Here we go.
Robyn:
Ninetales, Fletchinder, shiny Espeon.
I will not be taking constructive criticism.
LISTEN she may or may not ACTUALLY be a fox faunus, that’s really just a headcanon I personally like to play around with, but the fox ALLUSIONS are there. And not just because of the obvious Disney Robin Hood connection. I’ve talked about this at length in the Daemon AU posts so go look at those. She’s getting a damn fox Pokemon.
The Ninetales has actually kinda shitty stats; this was a dirty, hungry Vulpix that Robyn made friends with as a kid, they were not the cream of the crop. They had to fight harder to get where they are.
The Fletchinder is very high-level and could evolve, and probably will someday; they’d both quite like it to be a Talonflame. But Talonflame is big and dangerous-looking and grabs attention. Fletchinder is small and unassuming, kids smile at it, it can get into narrow spaces and go unseen. For now, this is what it needs to be.
Besides. A Talonflame couldn’t sit on Robyn’s shoulder 100% of the time without hurting her. They’ll both miss that, when it evolves.
Shiny Espeon. It’s PSYCHIC it’s GREEN what do you WANT from me.
May:
May is kind of a Water-type girl by accident.
Her “starter,” much like Qrow’s, almost doesn’t....count. It was given to her by her parents as a tenth birthday present when what she’d actually asked for was to be taken to the Pokecenter so she could pick out her own.
Metaphors? in MY Pokemon?
However, unlike Qrow, May and her freaked-out little Eevee bonded almost instantly, primarily over hating her family. It evolved pretty fast, and she instantly taught her new Vaporeon Acid Armor.
Before long, both of them would learn to turn invisible; but like any good trainer, May looked to her Pokemon first.
The Vaporeon was her “starter” but it also wasn’t.
May’s actual first Pokemon was a Magikarp.
She knew it was a terrible idea. She did.
But she couldn’t leave it, okay? She had to do something. There was a Magikarp being mistreated or in danger of being hurt and she just kind of...took it. She hastily made up a cover story about wanting a Gyarados someday for her parents and kind of passed the whole thing off as a joke, haha, yeah you know, my MAGIKARP lol like that’s even a thing but hey, I want to be a Huntsman so, you know, maybe a Gyarados will come in handy...
She never actually intended to evolve it. She just wanted to--help. Her parents getting her an Eevee for her next birthday was portrayed as a sort of...jocular amusement of the “haha look how eager the kid is to start training, here, have a real pokemon”
It takes a long time to evolve.
It comes very close a few times. May basically does the real-life equivalent of frantically mashing the B button to force it to stay a Magikarp because you can’t evolve right now, you can’t fight back for me right now, if you stop being a harmless afterthought they will take you away.
There will come a day when she stops asking her oldest friend to hold back this way, when it will finally be safe for them both to be angry, but--
Not yet. Not yet. Not now. Please, not now.
She repeats this process with a Feebas after leaving Atlas; the Feebas, encouraged by her long-term protective friendship with a Gyarados who clearly loves her more than life itself, risks allowing itself to be caught. This time there’s nothing to hide. The Milotic evolves when it’s ready.
Somewhere in this process, after leaving for Mantle, she picked up another Eevee. She didn’t actually plan to evolve it, at least not for a while, and had vague thoughts of maybe going for something unexpected, to trip up anyone who designed their team to beat a Water-type specialist.
The Eevee evolved on its own damn schedule
May has a Sylveon now because trans rights.
Fiona:
[Fiona voice] Hey, so you know how I’m filled with rage?
Fiona has a pair of extremely high-level Lopunny and The Single Angriest Wooloo On The Face Of The Earth.
The Wooloo is the powerhouse. She’s had that Wooloo her whole damn life and it will bite your face off.
The Lopunny were selected over a pair of female Machamp specifically because Fiona is a bottomless pit of socialist rage, and Buneary upon capture is filled with the boiling hatred of imprisoned gods.
Don’t fight Fiona.
You will lose and it will hurt.
Joanna:
TELL US YOUR SECRETS, WOMAN
Joanna I’m so sorry
Literally I don’t even know where to start, we need v8, I need to know you better--
I think Joanna DOES have a female Machamp. It’s particularly sweet-natured, especially for a fighting type.
I can actually see Joanna having an absolute TANK of a Venusaur. She went with a very common, unexciting, traditional starter--before the Happy Huntresses she didn’t...have much, not just financially but like. In terms of a sense of purpose, of drive. She went with the starter she was offered and that it was a bulbasaur was just a one-in-three chance.
But it’s still HER starter, and she stands by her Pokemon. She put in the work and the time and when they did find their passion and drive they did it together, and now they’re unstoppable.
I’m gonna leave that third slot open for when we know her Semblance.

Ch.1, Pt.2/2: Long Time, No See
[Life’s A Journey]
Summary:
A lot had happened after they parted ways. Nevertheless, the threads that tie them together remained. From children to adults, a reunion that’s long overdue leads the trio to embark on another journey.
Just like old times.
Word Count: 2.5k+
(Y/n)’s day starts with a phone call. The trill of Rotom’s ringtone jolts them from their sleep. Groggily lifting themself up to assume a seated position in the hotel bed, (e/c) peek from cracked eyelids to view the screen that hovers in front of them. Seeing the smiling face of Sonia tugs as little smile of their own as they prompt the Rotom Phone to answer their childhood friend over the line.
“Hey-yo, Sonia! How’s it going?”
“Nothing much. Just wanted to call before I get to work. How are you doing? Are you having a good time in Hoenn?” (Y/n)’s smile grows into a lazy grin. There is a nine-hour time difference between Galar and Hoenn, so it was a given that Sonia would think it was later within the day for them. Shifting to note the time: 9:36am, the trainer pulls themselves from under the covers to get ready.
“It’s grand. Mauville is so large I could get lost in it and the hot-springs of Lavaridge are to die for,” they play along. Entering the restroom, they grab a cloth and lather it to clean their face.
“Oooh, sounds like a dream. A spa day sounds good right about now. Note to self, stop by Circhester when I’m free.” (Y/n) discards the cloth before moving to grab their toothbrush.
“Eh. Those are just the places I managed to visit in my free time. I wish I could’ve seen more, but that’s kind of hard when you’re traveling for work.”
“I guess that’s true. How is work, by the way?” (Y/n) groans.
“Same old. There’ve been a lot of interesting things we’ve come across, but it seems we’re walking in circles instead of a straight line.”
“That’s unfortunate.”
“Yes, quite unfortunate indeed. With that being said, my efforts in researching has come to an end for now…I have to get back to Unova soon to fulfill my duties there.” Their words were muffled by the toothpaste in their mouth, still Sonia understands their words just barely. Laughing at hearing bristles on teeth over the line, the woman reclines in the seat in front of her vanity.
“You just never know how to sit down, do you? I don’t know how you do it, y’know. Having work at home and then moving to do work elsewhere? Do you ever take a break???” A thoughtful and long-drawn hum leaves (Y/n)’s lips. Did stopping by Galar count as a break? Maybe, but it would be a rather short one considering they’d only be here for the next few days. Though they can’t tell her that. It’d ruin the surprise visit.
Damn. Sonia’s right.
“Now that I think about it…” silence follows. Neither of the two say anything for a moment before Sonia eventually continues.
“Take more care of yourself…OK?”
Their eyebrows furrow. Quickly muting Rotom Phone to rinse and spit, they unmute to reassure their orange-haired friend.
“Hey, don’t worry about me too much, alright. I’m doing fine. Sure, I may not be taking breaks like I probably should, but I’m not wearing myself to the bone either. I rest plenty, trust me.”
“…”
“Sonia?” (Y/n) hears her sigh over the line.
“I believe you. It’s just that it’s kinda hard to keep a good work-life balance. Just wanna make sure you’re keeping it level.”
“It’s as level as I can possibly make it.” They chirp before making a smug face. It’s clear that Sonia has something else to say. The undercurrent of her worried words are heartwarming, and (Y/n) dramatically press their hands over their heart in reverence.
“You looove me,” they tease to which Sonia stutters a laugh.
“Oh, hush,” the laughter they share eventually dies down into a comfortable quiet.
“Well. I’m gonna turn in for the day. Talk to you later.”
“Yeah. Talk to you later.”
Ending the call, (Y/n) promptly shuffles through their luggage for an outfit. Keeping it plain and simple they decide on a cozy white sweater and some black trousers before changing. In no more than five minutes they’ve grabbed their trainer bag and key card before heading out the door.
Meanwhile, after the line had cut Sonia slowly brought the barrel brush she held down her hair. As she continued to brush she takes a glance at herself in the mirror. A mildly forlorn look shone in her emerald eyes her brows twinged emphasizing her sadness. She wished she could say it—that she missed them. After they had left seven years ago it felt like their friendship had slowly chipped away, not just with her but also with Leon. Though, she supposed that the three growing older and separating to pursue their own endeavors would make that inevitable. Still, traveling the world without so much as an occasional visit left the ginger to question more apart from what she already questioned. Lost in her thoughts, she feels a tiny pressure around her ankle. Looking down, Sonia sees Yamper staring at her head tilted to one side with a concerned look. Sighing, she shakes her head and reaches down to pet the little electric type.
“Sonia, dear. We���ll be leaving soon.” She hears Magnolia outside of her room. Taking a deep breath, she lifts herself from in front of her vanity grabbing the grey clips and placing them on her loose pony before heading to the kitchen. She’d need to eat something for the long day she had ahead of her.
Hop leisurely eats a muffin as he eyes his Rotom Phone. He had been waiting for (Y/n)’s message ever since he woke up this morning and was beginning to grow impatient. Though he trusted them to remember to notify him, so he stayed put.
“Hey.” His older brother’s voice draws Hop’s attention away from his phone. Leon was dressed in the usual battle tower attire as he takes a seat at the table across from him.
“You said you’d tell who gifted me these,” he grasps the Key and Mega Stones in hand. “A Key Stone and Mega Stone—very rare items to come across. Items highly sought after by skilled trainers, with most being possessed by the elite.”
“Ah. So, you do know what they are.”
“I almost didn’t remember. I likely wouldn’t if it weren’t for the books at my desk. Now, spill. Who gave you these?”
Before the younger can answer, Rotom Phone impedes his vision showing a new text had been received.
‘Morning, Hopscotch! On the way to Mag’s and Sonia’s. Don’t wait up!’
A bright smile shines on the teen’s face dismissing his device. Leon raises a brow. Whatever Hop saw on his phone has him super chipper.
“Well! When I was on my way to the lab yesterday, I was met with a surprise visit.” Amber eyes stare into his own as Leon silently urges him to continue. Hop takes in an excited breath of air.
“It was (Y/n)! They were in Wedgehurst last night and—”
“What?!” Leon exclaims. The ex-champion is out of his seat with an expression of both surprise and disbelief. After seven years of travel, they finally make their return to Galar? A surprise visit? Nobody was given any prior knowledge of this happening? It took Hop to be at the right place at the right time to meet with them?
“So that’s why you returned home late!?”
“Yeah! They gave me the Stones to give to you and told me not to tell until today. Sorry not sorry.” Giving a shrug, Hop recognizes the blank look that has since replaced his brother’s shock. It was easy to determine that the news he received had him thinking, reminiscing, and questioning. Yet, the younger doesn’t give Lee any room to get lost in his mind. With a push of the shoulder, Hop brings Leon from his subconscious.
“Lighten up a little. I’m sure you have a lot to catch up on but standing here isn’t going to help you.”
Having a lot to catch up on was an understatement. Perhaps it was foolish of him to think that (Y/n)’s travels wouldn’t stretch over such a long time span. Regardless he couldn’t help but miss them. Despite the occasional talks they would have with each other, their conversations were often short-lived. The man couldn’t help but to feel guilty about this. Being champion at the time was no easy feat; taking on heavy-handed tasks and putting on a smile for the people of Galar kept him busy—more than he’d like to admit. As they both became adults, it was clear that (Y/n) too had grown busy in their own regard. Listening to them speak about different regional cultures, the sights to see, the food to eat, the pokémon to meet, the events to partake, and their League experiences was something Leon took great joy in doing. Those calls have since been very few and far between. So, what happened? What new journeys had they taken throughout the time they hadn’t spoken? What new accomplishments had they made that he hasn’t yet been told about?
Running a hand through his hair with one hand he uses his other to grab the pokéball of his trusty Charizard before letting him out. With a firm roar, his companion gives an expectant look, having heard the conversation completely.
“We won’t be going very far. (Y/n) had yet to meet with Sonia and Professor Magnolia, so they’re on their way to their house.” Hop shows Leon the notification on his Rotom Phone. It’s proof enough to have the older on his way out the door.
“Then, that’s where we’re headed. Let’s fly,” he makes haste. The younger is at his heels chewing the remainder of his morning snack as they exit.
The walk down Route Two was a rather slow one. (Y/n) had expected to get to their destination some time ago, but the nostalgia of traveling down the familiar path enticed them to lag. Some things just didn’t change; same trees, same bushes, same patches of tall grass, same gigantic lake. 50 years could pass, and nature would remain—a nice prospect to think about. (Y/n) could feel Poppy grow restless in his pokéball, so they move to release him. The Venusaur takes in his surroundings just as (Y/n) did and releases a joyful grunt.
“Man! All the memories are flooding in. It’s insane!” The trainer gives Poppy a pat on the head. “We’d train here all the time. Sonia would teach us about type advantages and we’d all practice how to throw a pokéball.”
Continuing forward (Y/n) makes out the familiar layout of a battle pitch before eyeing the house that resided behind it. (Y/n) could hardly contain their excitement and raced ahead and rapping their knuckles against the study door. They could faintly hear movement within the building.
“I’ll get it,” the voice was no doubt their friend’s. They can’t help the megawatt smile that rapidly grows on their face. The ginger woman opens the door with a rather blank look, though her expression changes quickly upon finding out who it is. Her green eyes are wide—bewildered; she had halted in chewing the apple that she had in hand and stares. Seconds pass before (Y/n) casts a glance at their starter.
“Poppy, I think I broke Son—” they are quickly cut off by a warm and strangling embrace. Was Sonia always physically strong, or was this just a special occasion? Giving a small laugh and returning the hug. It was so great to see their childhood friend again.
“If you take this long to come back again, I’ll kill you,” she cries. The words are muffled by their sweater as she cries on their shoulder her embrace getting tighter. The sound of light footsteps behind the embrace draws their attention.
“What is all the fuss about, Sonia?” They both hear the professor query, viewing her granddaughter hold (Y/n) close. It isn’t until the veteran cranes their neck to show their face more clearly that the elder notices. An expression of surprise shows before it is quickly replaced with something softer and more welcoming. “Oh my, if it isn’t (Y/n)! Welcome back, my dear.”
“Hey-yo, Mags! How’s everything?”
“All is well, my dear.”
Sonia had since released them from their hug, but not a moment passes before (Y/n) hears additional footsteps. The sound of feet on pavement was rapid as if somebody, or in this case somebodies, were running. Hearing shouts of their name, they turn around to face the culprits. Taking Sonia’s hand, they exuberantly wave down the path upon seeing Hop and Leon. The younger makes it to the two first, bringing them into another hug. The group of three becomes four a second later as the older joins completing the embrace. In contrast to the cool autumn wind that wafted throughout, the cozy warmth of having everyone huddled together was perfect. (E/c) glance at the ex-champion, his head laid atop theirs as their height allowed it. He looked comfy—relaxed; a rare expression for him to have and (Y/n) couldn’t help but feel touched to catch him like this. Giving the man a slight nudge, his eyes crack open to peek downward. Golden eyes meld into (e/c) as they playfully wink at him with a playful smile. Leon lets out a small laugh as he shakes his head. It’s nice to note that their vibrancy remains in full swing even after all this time.
“Ah, what a sight to see. It’s been such a long time since I’ve seen you all together in one place.” Magnolia’s reminiscent words pull the quad’s attention. “You were all so young and now have grown into fine adults.” With a hum, the elder looks to her granddaughter.
“It’d be foolish to think you’d want to be in the lab upon (Y/n)’s return, no?” Of course, the ginger shakes her head at this. Magnolia chuckles. The group separates from their hug.
“In that case, before you get settled make it known that the office will be vacant for the time being.” Turning her attention to Leon she quickly notices that he was already on his own phone telling Rotom to notify the Battle Tower staff that he’d be out for the day. While they were doing that, (Y/n) busied herself with giving Charizard friendly scratches behind the horns. The fire-flying type grunts before bumping his snout on (Y/n)’s nose; an action that he’d adopted starting when he was a Charmeleon. Things We Lost in the Fire, ch 16
aka Caleo uni au
Fic summary: Calypso starts studying at a new university, but to her annoyance her new flatmate is a loud mouthed mechanic who also likes to sneak his dog in whenever. But as she learns to know him better, she realizes they might have more in common than what she first thought. Eventually, even the darkest secrets come out…
Chapter summary: Game night at Leo and Calypso's flat.
A/N: So sorry for the delay with this chapter, but better late than never, right? This chapter was both fun but also challenging to write, because I wasn't sure how much game description I can have without making it boring. I myself am a big Pokémon fan (among other things) so adding that was very self-indulgent of me, but I hope that even those of my readers who aren't that familiar with Pokémon will be able to enjoy this chapter. I tried my best to explain some of the most important terms in the author's note on ao3 so you can check that if you want to.

Saturday came and Leo still hadn’t heard anything from his professors, which he took as a bad sign. Maybe they were still considering if such a problem student would ever be able to go through the tough education. He hadn’t even talked to Jo and Emmie after the incident, claiming that he was currently busy but he’d call back when he had time. He was still determined to try to get over his fear because his flatmate believed in him and thought that he could do it. And if not for anything else, Jo and Emmie hadn’t adopted him just so he would waste the opportunity. Calypso and he had agreed to continue the training the upcoming week, but now, they had something different in their minds: the game night.
Jason and Piper arrived first. They brought their Switch, some games and snacks with them and seemed about as confident about winning their battles as Leo was. Annabeth had told the group she would be arriving a bit late as she had promised to tutor a pupil that afternoon but that arrangement suited everyone well since she wouldn’t be able to participate in the Pokémon tournament anyway.
The group decided to have three battles and the team winning two of them would win the whole competition. Unfortunately for Team Flatmates, Jason and Piper won the first battle quite clearly, causing Calypso to throw annoyed glances at Leo.
“Mister Pokémon Master, I thought you had a plan,” she growled at him while their opponents were highfiving each other.
Leo leaned closer to her, attempting his sneakiest expression: “Just trying to make them feel comfortable, Sunshine. And when they think they got it…”
“You’re either an evil genius or simply an idiot.” Calypso shook her head.
“Hey, what are you two whispering there?” Piper asked loudly from her seat. “One would think that you’re plotting something… Maybe even cheating.”
“Just a mandatory team meeting, Pipes. We don’t cheat. I feel offended that you’d even consider that.” Leo put his hand over his heart to feign innocence.
“Yeah, right,” Piper rolled her eyes. “We almost believe that.”
The second battle was much more even than the first one. In the end both teams were down to one Pokémon, but Leo’s Charizard was faster than Jason’s Magnezone and it managed to finish it off with one final Flamethrower.
“See, Sunshine, if it hadn’t been for my Charizard…”
“Oh my gods, Leo. You just happened to get lucky that Tyranitar’s Rock Throw missed it earlier. Otherwise you’d been done for.”
“Well, they say that even luck has to be deserved,” Leo smirked.
“So that’s what your strategy is?” Jason asked. “Luck?”
“Do I hear complaints? You guys just don’t respect the genius in his element.” Leo protested.
“Well, I guess the final battle will decide who really is a genius and who’s not,” Piper noted and that was the group’s cue to stop trash talking and continue playing.

Jason and Piper’s team got a strong start in the last battle. They took down two of Leo and Calypso’s Pokémon before they got any major damage done. But after that Leo showed that sometimes he did have luck on his side; he took a small risk by making Luxray use Thunder against Jason’s flying type and it was worth it. The attack didn’t miss this time and Braviary went down in one hit. After that Leo took another risk by telling Calypso to use a water type Slowbro against Piper’s grass type Lurantis. He had planned ahead though by using a move that made Slowbro faster than Lurantis, and his Pokémon also knew a fire type move Flamethrower, which caused Lurantis to go down after two hits.
From then on the battle progressed more evenly. Charizard and Venusaur were Leo and Calypso’s last Pokémon to stand against Piper and Jason’s Manectric and Umbreon. Calypso suggested they’d try to use Venusaur against Manectric but Leo claimed his Charizard might be able to beat it with one hit. He miscalculated, though. Manectric was still faster and its Discharge was enough to take the Charizard down. Calypso looked at Leo with a ‘what did I say’ expression and took over. Her Venusaur, which was resistant to electric moves, managed to win Manectric, and Calypso couldn’t hide her smug smile when Jason and Piper switched to their last Pokémon.
In advance the last match up seemed pretty even, apart from the fact that Venusaur had already taken a bit of damage in the previous battle. Both Pokémon kept slowly chipping the other one’s energy and then healing up again for a good while until finally, Venusaur got a critical hit with its Giga Drain and made Umbreon faint.
“YES!” Calypso yelled probably louder than Leo had ever heard her yell in the short time he’d known her. Before he had time to react, he felt her arms wrap around him.
“Woah! Someone’s excited.” Leo mumbled against her hair.
“Sorry,” Calypso blushed. “I may have overreacted a bit. But we did it!”
“A critical hit, huh? Those need some luck, don’t you think?” Leo asked her smugly once Calypso had removed her arms from around him.
“Yeah, I guess…” she said, wondering where he was going with his comment.
“I’d advise you to check Venusaur’s held item.” Leo winked and Calypso clicked Venusaur’s data open.
“Dire Hit?” she asked in disbelief. “Did you predict this would happen and that’s why you gave him that? To boost the critical hit ratio?”
“Well, I told you the luck has to be earned sometimes.” Leo’s grin was about as wide as it could get. Calypso didn’t know if she should punch him or hug him again. Her hand remained still in the mid air for a while before she finally decided to put it down, in the small gap between his and her thigh.
“You could have told me that earlier, you frustrating, evil…” She started scolding him.
“Yes? Finish your sentence, please.” Leo challenged, leaning a bit closer to her.
“Not genius,” she said quietly, not able to look him in the eyes.
“Has anyone ever told you guys you’re adorable?” Piper asked all of a sudden and it was then that the flatmates remembered that Jason and Piper indeed were in the room too. They flinched for a moment and then jumped farther from each other.
“Hey, what are you implying?” Leo casted an annoyed look at his friend.
“Pretty sure Mister Genius knows what I’m implying,” Piper said back and caused Leo to groan loudly.
“No way. No. We’re not… I mean I wouldn’t… She wouldn’t…”
“No one understands you, Leo,” Jason stopped his stuttering.
Leo wasn’t about to admit his defeat quite that easily, but luckily he was stopped by the buzzer. Annabeth had finally arrived and Calypso rushed to open the door, trying to put her poker face back on.
“Hi! Sorry I’m late, the pupil had quite a lot of questions this time,” Annabeth explained, glancing at the clock on the wall that showed that the four others had been playing for almost an hour already. “And of course Percy had lost his swimming goggles again and we were searching for them for at least 15 minutes. I promise to kick his butt for that later tonight.”
Calypso was still too distracted by the earlier situation to pay attention to the name Annabeth had mentioned.
“No worries, you probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it anyway. The boys were getting a bit enthusiastic about Pokémon,” she told Annabeth.
“Excuse me, who was literally just screaming and glomping people because she won?” Leo retorted back and Annabeth chuckled at his reaction a bit.
“Hmm, to me it sounds like I’ve missed a lot.” She smirked. “Moving on, though, what are you guys thinking of doing next?”
“We were planning to play Mario Kart,” Calypso gestured towards the console, as she went back to her seat.
“And this time we won’t be playing in pairs so it should be interesting to see how these two will be behaving,” Piper meddled in.
Both Leo and Calypso pretended they didn’t hear her, instead starting to trashtalk each other.
“Okay, Repair Boy, let’s see how far luck will get you in this game.”
“Sunshine, if you think I need luck in Mario Kart… you’re as wrong as my middle school teacher who claimed that my jokes were bad and threw me out of the class just because of that.”
Jason had to disagree with that statement, though. “For me you told that that joke was about the teacher himself and that it was kind of inappropriate. So your teacher was right.”
Leo turned to Calypso. “Why did we invite these two again?” He nodded towards Piper and Jason. “They’re ruining my stories.”
“I think they are just telling the truth,” Calypso chuckled.
“Oh yeah? Let’s see who laughs last when they win this contest.”
“Alright, children,” Annabeth stopped them. “This is fun to listen to but I think the only way to find out who really can play is to play.”
“Annabeth’s right, as usual,” Piper said too. “Let’s do it.”
The friends shared the remote controls and put the game on. Before they got to the character picking, though, Calypso confessed something.
“I have to admit that I haven’t played this game before. Well, I haven’t played most of the games before. Pokémon was easy for me to understand because it’s one of the few games I did play as a kid.”
“Wait… what?” Leo turned to her, his eyes wide. “You have only ever played that game as a kid and did that well?
“You created the team, I only picked what felt good in that moment.” Calypso waved it off. “Without that Dire Hit…”
“Looks like progress has been made between those two,” Annabeth whispered to Piper who snorted at her comment.
“One could say that,” she said with amusement.
“Alright, guys, let’s focus on the relevant things here. It’s time to pick your characters.” Jason ordered and the others had to listen to him. Leo picked Mario, Calypso Princess Daisy, Jason and Piper Toad and Toadette and Annabeth Yoshi (she claimed it reminded her of her boyfriend). Leo had to instruct Calypso briefly on the functions of the remote control for this specific game, but after that the group was ready.
It took Calypso a while to learn to use the remote control but Leo had to give it to her, she really gave it her all. In the first race she was the last, but she slowly started getting better until finally she was fourth, managing to win Piper while Leo, Jason and Annabeth were still better.
“At this rate you’ll win the guys before they notice it,” Annabeth complimented Calypso. “But don’t expect me to be as easy as they are.”
“How are you that good?” Calypso asked her, knowing she had meant what she had said.
“I guess I just do a lot of things that develop my hand-eye coordination; I draw, play some sports, and believe it or not, my mom also wanted to make sure I’d be good at knitting and weaving so she started teaching me at a young age. Now I haven’t seen her in a long while but I’m still trying to maintain the skill.” Annabeth shrugged.
“In that case, I’m going to continue my hobbies too. Imagine seeing Leo and Jason’s faces when we both win them,” Calypso said, causing the boys to protest.
“The next Cup will decide who wins, OK?” Jason tried to solve the situation after some bickering between the parties.
“Fine,” the girls agreed, but Leo’s face told that he was very ready to show Calypso who the teacher was.
By the last race of the Cup Annabeth was in a clear lead, Jason was second, leading Leo with 5 points, Leo third and somehow Calypso had sneaked to the fourth place 7 points from Leo. In the last round of the last race Leo was leading, others close behind him, when Jason managed to get a blue shell, shooting it at his friend’s car.
“Hey! That’s so unfair!” Leo yelped as he watched his car getting knocked over. Unfortunately for Annabeth, he was situated on the road in a way that she had to slow down a bit when she passed him, but Calypso and Jason had the space to drive on the full speed on the other side of the road. They were already close to the finish line and if the track had been any longer, the race would probably have ended differently, but Leo didn’t have enough time to bounce back after the collision. Jason ended up winning the last race, Calypso being the second, which meant she gained seven points more than Leo did. That, on the other hand, meant that they ended up with exactly the same amount of points in the Cup.
After Leo said a couple of quiet curse words in Spanish, he dared to look at Calypso from the corner of his eye. She was looking at him too and seemingly trying to figure out what she should tell him. He wasn’t able to stay mad after that.
“Guess we’ll be on the podium together,” he went first.
“Yeah,” Calypso nodded. “Hey, you’re not a half bad teacher.”
“Half bad?” A smile spread on Leo’s face. “Hey, guys, did you hear that? Coming from Calypso, that was a big compliment!”
“I can also take it back, if you want,” she said calmly but couldn’t stop herself from smiling as well.
“Good game, Cal,” both Annabeth and Piper told her, giving her high fives.
“Thank you! Next time, I’ll even try to challenge the champion.” Calypso nodded towards Annabeth.
“Good luck with that!” she responded. “I promise I won’t go easy on you.”
“I wouldn’t want that,” Calypso said before turning her attention back to the screen again.
Silence fell into the room as the group watched the award ceremony. Annabeth’s Yoshi rose to the highest podium, Jason’s Toad followed and Leo and Calypso’s Mario and Princess Daisy shared the third one.
“We don’t look that bad together, huh?” Leo noted while drumming his fingers in the same rhythm as the background music. At first he didn’t realize there was anything weird in his words, but the others’ chuckling and Calypso’s pink cheeks woke him up.
“Hu-huh?” she asked, flustered.
“I mean… our characters! They look pretty neat!” He yelped and folded his arms. The others had to bite back their smiles but Piper decided to be kind and change the topic.
“So, we’ve played Pokémon and Mario Kart now… what next?”
Calypso seemed relieved by her question. “I forgot to mention I prepared some presents for the top three! I made some cupcakes and I thought the winner would get three, the second one two and the third one… Don’t worry, Piper, I think I should have one extra cupcake in the fridge.”
“You wouldn’t have had to, I could have eaten Jason’s extra,” Piper said but accepted the cupcake nevertheless when Calypso started sharing them.
Leo wasn’t very willing to give up on his cupcake that he was supposed to share with Calypso.
“So you had an extra cupcake but we still have to share?”
“You already ate one last night! And I don’t have more of them with the frosting right now, the rest are in the freezer.” Calypso protested.
“Such a cold hearted woman,” Leo muttered and snatched the last cupcake from the plate. Calypso didn’t have time to stop him before he had already split the bottom part in half with a knife that had been resting next to the plate. Then he put the other half on the top of the cake and took a huge bite of it.
“Leonidas, what are you doing?!” she exclaimed and tried to reach the cupcake in his hand.
“Eating my share, of course!” he said as he stuffed more of the cake into his mouth.
Calypso was prepared for Leo to run away from her like he had the other day after the chili incident but to her surprise he stayed in one spot. Leo started laughing at her baffled expression.
“Open your mouth,” he ordered her, putting the remains of the cupcake near her face.
“What?” Calypso asked, not expecting that reaction.
“What what, do you think I won’t give you your share of the cupcake? You deserved it!” he said, his eyes gleaming mischievously.
“But you bit that already!” Calypso tried to protest.
“Are you 8? I can always cut this in half with this knife if that’s what you want.”
“Fine,” she finally said, waiting for Leo to finish the cutting before letting him feed her. They didn’t notice that Piper was whispering something to Annabeth and Jason. The group seemed to agree about something, but their whispering was interrupted when there was a knock on the front door.
“That’s probably just Percy, he must have gotten out of his practice by now.” Annabeth said and went to open the door.
“Hi, I tried to call you but I guess you didn’t hear your phone or something,” a male voice could soon be heard in the hallway. “Someone let me in downstairs while I was… you?”
Everyone was now able to see the newcomer who stopped in his tracks when he recognized Calypso. She had frosting all over her face, Leo’s hand on her shoulder when she turned to look at him. “Percy?”

Pokémon!
Another pokémon generation, another great set of pokémon to choose from for my top ten. I really don't think that there are any pokémon that I think are awful - they all range from average to fantastic. Additionally, in Sinnoh, I loved the big expansion on the new evolutions to old pokémon concept - and I think this Top 10 reflects that. As is always the case, I have included both the original Gen4 sprite as well as the shiny sprite, with all sprites taken from Platinum for the sake of consistency. Gen4 also marked my first first shiny since Gen2, and although Bibarel didn't sneak into my list, I really just wanted to mention it again!
10. Roserade
The last slot on the list is always tricky as it edges out all your honourable mentions, but I couldn't have a list without Roserade. The first of several on this list that is a new evolved form of a previously establised pokémon, Roserade is a perfect example of how this can breathe new life into a pokémon family. I can't imagine ever bothering with Gen3's Roselia which was fine, but nothing too special. But with it evolving into the masquerade ball-inspired Roserade, it was always on my list. I trained one on my Pokémon Pearl team and I think it is now my favourite Grass/Poison type - sorry Venusaur! Also, the shiny is lovely; the blue and red rose-hands change to black and purple and it looks so good. If this was a top ten list of shinies, Roserade would be even higher up!
09. Honchkrow
Honchkrow gets into this list head of the regional bird of Sinnoh, Staraptor (which I also think is great), for a couple of reasons. I think Staraptor is great, but the type combination Normal/Flying just isn't as interesting as the cool Dark/Flying type of Honchkrow. Additionally, as with Roserade, I love how it takes the previously average Murkrow from trickster crows to a group of lackeys who surround the Mafia Boss that is Honckrow. It's a great evolution concept. I also enjoyed training my Honchkrow (again on my Pokémon Pearl team) to combine it's Super Luck ability, the Scope Lens held item, and the high critical hit chance move, Night Slash, to dish out a crit every three attacks or so. I don't hate the shiny either, although I wish it was a bit of a deeper purple as it does stray dangerously close to hot pink. Still at least it isn't yet another blue pokémon turning to this colour!
08. Lopunny
I feel like Lopunny isn't a pokémon that would be on many people list of favourites, and I totally see why. It is weirdly sexualised - not too surprising given it seems to be based on a Playboy bunny - with the way it hold it's arms in front of it's chest to give the impression of cleavage (which it thankfully doesn;t actually have) and the 'wolf whistle' cry that cannot just be a coincidence. I never planned to use one but I needed a male Lopunny to help hunt for a female Combee, and he ended up sticking around on my Pokémon Diamond team. A big part of this was the headcannon I had that given it is a pokémon with such a feminine design, my Lopunny was a bad-ass pokémon drag queen! I also really like the shiny with the (thankfully not hot) pink highlights. YAAASSS!
07. Floatzel
I'm not even sure exactly why I like Floatzel so much - but it really appeals to me all the same. I like the animal it is based on - the Weasel presumably, although it could easily be a stoat, ferret, or otter - and think the design with the dual tails acting as a propeller is really cool. I also like how the rubber tubing element of it's design doesn't make look clumsey or inept like a Water-type pokémon, with what is essentially a flotation device, could easiy end up. Floatzel is another pokémon that I trained on my Pokémon Diamond team and it is both quick and relatively hard hitting on both the Attack and Special Attack sides, which makes it nice and versatile, especially when playing through and requiring it to learn both Special and Physical HM moves. The shiny is nothing to write home about though, essentially a more washed out orange. Maybe they were going for a gold colour, but if so it just looks kinda off. I'll stick with the original, thanks!
06. Mismagius
After two original pokémon lines, I'm back to new evolutions to old pokémon, and also my second drag queen pokémon! Another feminine-styled pokémon, my Mismagius is male earning it the nickname Ru Pol (because Ru Poltergeist was just a little too long). Evolving from the very overlooked Misdreavus, I always planned to use Mismagius on a team and he becomes the third member of my Pokémon Pearl team to get into the Top Ten. Really great Speed, Special Attack, and Special Defence, combined with a really good movepool for great type coverage makes Mismagius an excellent pokémon that I was a big fan of before even playing through the Sinnoh games. I'm also a fan of te mustard-coloured shiny, but if I had to choose between the colour options, I think the original is slightly better suited to a spooky Ghost-type.
05. Hippowdon
This is the first pokémon in my top ten that I didn't actually train in Gen4. This is odd because if I had produced the list without playing the games and the chance to bond with various other pokémon, then I think Hippowdon would have been in the top three. Part of the issue here is how difficult/late in the game you can get one. To catch it's pre-evolved form, Hippopotas, you need to capture a certain number of Unown in order to get into the tunnel where it lives. Since I had all the Unown forms in Emerald, I was never going to do this again, so I never caught it. The fully evolved for is available in the post-game, but this is far too late. Even so, I still love it as a pokémon. I really like the design of a scary looking, Ground-type hippo with sand pouring out of it and I think the sexual diamorphism in colour between the male and female forms helps make up for the fact the male form's shiny is rather lackluster, being just a more washed out beige. One day I will definitely train a Hippowdon of my own!
04. Mamoswine
Sinnoh certainy introduced some cool (Ice-type pun not intended) Ground-types, as this is the second of three in this top ten, as well as the fourth out of five that evolve previously established pokémon. Interestingly, after Swinub appeared in my Gen2 top ten, this is the first time two members of the same evolution line have been in a list of my favourites! Mammoswine was a key member of my Pokémon HeartGold team and is such a great addition to the Swinub/Piloswine family. According to in-game cannon, it is essentially a pre-historic evolution that only happens in certain circumstances in the modern day which makes it feel like a fossil pokémon, but without the need to saddle it with the Rock-typing. Unfortunately, on the shiny side it draws the short straw of the family as it just looks a bit weird compared to Swinub's aquamarine or Piloswine's lovely golden coulouration.
03. Vespiquen
Moving into the top three, Vespiquen is another pokémon that I liked before I ever played through Sinnoh and was very keen to use on a team. It's not hard to see why I like it; it is a fearsome-looking Queen Bee with a great honeycomb design, and the fact it can be a bit of effort to obtain since it only evolves from female Combees makes it feel like a prize when you finally get one. I had earmarked Vespiquen for my Pokémon Platinum team but it ended up missing out as, despite being part Flying-type, it can't learn the HM Fly. This caused me to drop it out for Drifblim in the end, but it is another pokémon I would love to train someday. Although I definitely prefer the original colouration, the more angry-looking orangey-red of the shiny is still a great look, but the idea of shiny hunting a female Combee doesn't sound like fun at all!
02. Yanmega
Yanmega was a late choice for my Pokémon SoulSilver team, but using it there rocketed it into the top ten, as I hadn't really ever considered it muc before using it on that team. It actualy combines everything I like about my previous two entries; it is a bad-ass looking Bug-type with an amazing design, and it is also a pre-historic evolution, based on the huge dragonflies that lived back then and evolving in the same way as Mamoswine. Since it is a new evolution to Johto's Yanma, it made sense to use it in the Gen2 remakes over and above Vespiquen, which share the same typing but only really has ties to Sinnoh. Finally, Yanmega has a realy excellent shiny with the blue version looking so good and it right up their with Roserade for best Sinnoh shiny!
01. Torterra
As we reach the number one slot, it shouldn't come as much surprise to see a member of a starter pokémon line here. The starter lines are always among the best designed pokémon of any region and my favourite from Sinnoh is easily Torterra. It has an excellent design concept; a Grass/Ground-type tortoise with an entire eco-system on it's back, my Torterra was an integral part of my Pokémon Diamond team. Given how much I like a lot of starters families, it is interesting that this marks the first time a fully-evolved starter has made the list, although the first-stage evolutions have been well represented with Bulbasaur, Cyndaquil, and Mudkip all previously representing their various regions. The only downside to Torterra is that I don't love it's shiny. It certainly isn't bad, but the variation of green used just can't hold a candle to the original.
Wow, I can't believe that I am finally at the end of Generation 4. As always I will be posting all the lovely art that I had commissioned of my Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, and SoulSilver teams before I move onto Gen5. I know these upcoming games are often considered rather devicive within the pokémon fanbase, but I also think this view has softened over time so it might actually be more of a case of fans of the franchise not enjoying new things. Eiter way, I'm excited to see how I fare with Pokémon Black and White!

Because he had his Delinquent days (and he highkey detached himself from his brothers so he could go around and win battles and get money for them you know kinda like TDD) so he had his edgy fire squad
And like he explored everywhere, kind of being a general badass and earning his reputation by beating the gyms and all that
but then he matured over the course of his journey (and he learned a ton of new shit) and went back to go around with his brothers and willingly goes through the journey with them so he can help them out
Plus he missed them so he needs to make up for it and they forgive him later on yay
But yes, loves fire type and is very very skilled when it comes to training, battling, motivating, LOVING, and taking care of Pokemon
And okay like I rly see him being a mentor for his brothers and just one day showing off his moves with his fucking charizard and letting saburo uwu ride on it AHHHH

He tries to live up to his brother and stuff even if he’s kinda resentful he left for a bit, but he’s over it you know
Ichiro would give him the starter pokemon
Like tbh I think Ichiro would give him a Piplup (I’m basic I’m sorry) and like really give him tons of advice
And yes he does challenge saburo on a near daily basis
And ichiro allows this because training, though Jiro won’t get it through his head that a full out offensive isn’t the way to go, though Ichiro figures that he’ll get over it
Anyway, moving on, that’s basically Jiro’s arc and like the buster bros would become like a unit and it would be so cool to see them battle around
And he’s also an adventure boy and really hates it when Saburo delays for some knowledge pursuit
Like he would bring out his also eager Pokemon to drag saburo away like even the piplup gets unto it and tries to drag saburo away from the pursuit of knowledge
Saburo
Quite literally a Pokemon nerd
No really he would probably be the first of the bros to complete his Pokédex like he would finish it
And his goal isn’t like to BATTLE BATTLE BATTLE or WAR WAR WAR it’s literally to gotta catch them all because he’s in the pursuit of knowledge that way
I rly see him having like an Eevee (if any of you play let’s go Eevee) or just not a typical starter Pokemon you know
Ichiro would probably end up giving him an eevee anyway because he knows an Eevee would appeal to like Saburo because it’s an extraordinary type of pokemon
He would love his eevee to the death and would dress it up in all these cute outfits
And yeah he’s a tough guy to battle, but you’ll more likely find him just enjoying the actual pokemon instead of battling
And he’s also p good at strategising when it comes to pokemon and he helps out his brothers
Is very happy with the journey and all that

Definitely a gym leader, like really because reasons I rly see him being one
And oh my god I see him with a fucking Lucario like!!!!!
And he would love his pokemon to the death and all
And yeah he would be in charge of a fighting type of Pokemon or like that would be his specialty because he’s Samatoki sama aka mr ha ko on the microphone
And yeah he would probably have a side job as a yakuza, but like gym is life and he’s really aggressive but also very very smart when it comes to his attacks
Like even if he’s up against a higher level or like a psychic type, he will come out on top and beat the opposition
Anyway, his origin story is like he just wants to show everyone how strong he is and how that no matter how many times you get beat down, you have to keep going back up
And when he roams around or like helps people train in his own gym, he has a strict way of teaching, but also somewhat understanding and his tips really do help those who visit his gym
Very much open to receiving challenges because he needs to fight oh yeah
He also explored a lot of places and has a shit ton of influence, but the gym and his city is really his home

He also loves fashion so he would really be the champion of those beauty pageants with all his deceptively cute Pokemon like wigglytuff and everyone thinks he’s just superficial and can’t battle for shit
But then face him off and it’s just a complete disaster and you’re going to be wrecked
Like he knows how to deceive and use his Pokemon’s weaknesses to their advantages and he knows the tricks of the trade, all while looking great
i don’t think he would be in the elite four, he would just be one of those freakishly strong trainers that would just pop in every once in a while

But in battle he’s pretty dangerous because he’s an author and knows what he’s doing

And like okay basically!!! You know how you have to fight all the elite four, he would be like the surprise level at the end and he’s very much god tier, like he would specialise in psychic/dragon/dark/flying type, you know that kind of mystic vibe
And he’s just on a level of his own!!! So like he’s very cool and that, and he’s kind as well, like he doesn’t spend most of his time in his seat of power or whatever and he goes around helping people and being a doctor because he likes helping people and Pokemon
But srsly, most people are in such awe of him and he’s just slaying by walking around with a Salamence or a Dragonair or a Dragonite or a fucking Charizard but rly anyway its just me
Or also like an Absol that would be awesome too
Anyway, yeah he really looks so cool, but if you get to meet him, he’s very down to earth and will sit down with you if you want some advice

Dark Pokemon like, probably or ghost type of pokemon
I see him with a houndoom! Or like something like that
And he’s pretty anxious and unsure of battling
But if his Pokemon are threatened you have unlocked the beast and he will go on a rampage
Mostly a stressed worker that needs some time to sleep
Usually sleeps with his snorlax or on his slowbro
Like I rly see him just collapsing with a snorlax and sleeping for the entries day
But he would also run and his ghastly would chase after him and his houndoom would prevent him from falling on the tracks and impaling himself
He also shares a room with Hifumi, with his fairy type Pokemon
Srsly, this household has the polar opposites getting along together like the houndoom would take care of the little Pokemon and its pretty wholesome
Probably not that invested in collecting Pokemon and he’s happy with the ones he has

“Anything cute!” No legit he would really have beautiful and cute pokemon like rly pretty but also freakishly strong Pokemon
His clefairy is a thing of legend
And he’s into all that beauty pageant stuff too
And in his club he has his cute electric type Pokemon do their thing along with fairy sparkles and what not

Anyway, he loves dressing up his Pokemon, but in host mode, have fun trying to best him in battle because he is really confident in his Pokemon and all that
He might wipe your ass on the floor, unless you’re a girl of course and he’s out of host mode
But in general, all he wants to do is cuddle and play with his Pokemon along with sleeping on the snorlax that doppo sleeps on after a long day at work

Pokémon FireRed Nuzlocke [Part 13]
Once again back at the Bill Gaiden, we continue our quest to beat the game without any grinding.
The current take on this problem is to focus on only three members of the team in the final chapter. Plus prayer and possibly lots of X items I haven’t bought yet.

Rock Smash get, and Oak is gonna learn it for us. As our last real run taught us, Krabby is the best for HMs. Nom nom.
Sap is handling all of the Fighting trainers on this first island here. Seems prudent, given the choices involved. Plus my expectations of Sap. Sap has, by far, the largest role in my eventual plans. My child. You must take your amazing moves. Use them. And sweep all the things.
My Mt. Ember option is a Fearow, and I just can’t. I have two things that aren’t a Master Ball, I think. Sorry, Fearow. We were not meant to be.
Except Trunk can’t run from you. So I might be considering catching you.

-sigh- I tried to skip into Three Island, but it looks like you have to talk to NPCs to hit off the Biker Gang part of the Bill Gaiden. This run, having been a shrine to defeatism, didn’t bother with talking with most everyone. The cost is island hopping. Much sad. Very annoy.

Not a bad place to be in. Not close enough to feeling safe, but I think this has the potential to go better than Heero’s term.
Final badge. Let’s go. For added fun, I won’t even follow my map of the trainers inside the Gym. I’ll just go by guessing based on the trainer type.
Oak is level 52, Sap and Trunk are level 50. Good show, guys.

I’m going to miss not having an Electric type available for the Pidgeot. And for the Gyarados. Acorn, Zaft. Your presence would be so valuable here.
I think I’m going to put Oak in front for that. Rival has enough to respond to Oak that any Sand Attacks can be swapped out. Wanting Oak for two fights in a row probably won’t happen. Hopefully.
My amusement is slowly being replaced by existential dread.
Oh, neat. The Pidgeot goes for Wing Attack instead of the awful sand. Thank you, Rival-san’s Pidgeot. I hate you and everything, but you’re a class act.
Trunk goes in for the Venusaur. It of level 53.

I’ll actually send Sap out to (hopefully) handle the Gyarados.

Hell, though. That is not a confidence boost. The levels keep reminding me how tight this really is, and I’m very short on Type variety. I know my main strategy, which I didn’t use here, is going to be massively setting up before anything else, but aaaaaaaaa.
I don’t want to go through all of this again. I’m not good enough at the game to reliably improve.
On the side of things I can do, I’m going to teach Trunk Earthquake.
And it looks very much like it makes sense for Oak to learn Ice Beam. He still has Tackle, for crying out loud. There’s room for improvement. The only problem is that hey, I still want Shadow Ball for Trunk, and guess what other TM is also a Game Corner thing?
In the spirit of bad things not happening maybe, I’m going to grab those TMs before Victory Road. No point limiting myself. I am also going to look up if I can get the Amulet coin and make some extra money, because the money situation ended up making me sad by the end of Heero and friends.

I’m about to spend all my cash, so this is my last chance for move decisions.
I usually like something to know Toxic. Oak’s the best candidate for that in terms of an incomplete moveset, but I have a Dragon Claw TM that has similar value and can’t be wasted on Trunk or Sap.
I think this works, honestly. Oak for all things turtle, Sap for all things stall, and Trunk for miscellaneous everything. I can adjust after each one I beat. I have some interesting TMs I can play with, but for now, I think this is good.
What I need to think through is what X items I want. Then the rest goes into Full Restores. ...Oh. The X items are cheap, so I just buy a bunch without thinking it through.

Okay, looking back over my records, I think I’m going to teach Trunk Brick Break over Yawn, use an X Attack, and go for the sweep.

Two X Attacks, because I’m greedy. Dewgong down. It’s now Hailing. Have fun countering, Leftovers.
The Cloyster gets to the red with one Brick Break. Lorelei uses a Full Restore. Many stall tactics later, the Cloyster is downed with not much more of a mark on Trunk.
Slowbro next, but Shadow Ball should make that work. The hail stops, too, which is nice.
Yeesh, these things have high Defense. Slowbro’s in the red, uses Surf. Trunk is still green, but nearing half steadily. One more Shadow Ball, and the Slowbro’s gone. No Full Restore for it.
Lapras.
Brick Break puts it in the red, but it has a Sitrus Berry. I probably knew that from last time, but we’re really all about living in the moment, this run.
Lapras leaves Trunk in the high orange, but it’s out. Just the Jynx left. Going to spend a turn on a Potion just to keep things stable, then a Shadow Ball should mark the end of this.
And now Trunk is in love with it. In between being put to sleep.

Yeah, one Sludge Bomb puts Hitmonchan practically in the red, and Sky Uppercut doesn’t move Sap anywhere near orange.

I’m not banned from looking things up, but it hasn’t felt sporting to check up ahead of time. And no matter what, I think the best strategy I have here is to throw Oak in, toss on a ton of X Defends, and pray. So it doesn’t really matter what he has.
But Oak’s learning Toxic.
As a kid, I always thought Lance was just the coolest. Lance is a bitching name, and he has a dragon theme, and then he has a fucking cape. Top ten video game heroes.
As an adult, I hate Lance so much. Even the dope cape can’t spare him.
Oh hey, it’s a level 56 Gyarados. With my favorite move. Dragon Rage. That’s actually great, and it should feel free to keep using it. Dragon Rage doesn’t get critical hits. Yeah, actually, this is perfect. I’m just going to stack Oak with everything and not switch.
All of Dragon Rage’s PP later, Toxic can’t hit anything apparently, and it’s a contest of Biting. Cute.
THEN IT USES HYPER BEAM AND THE HYPER BEAM, NATURALLY, GETS A CRITICAL HIT, AND OAK HAS 15 HP AS HE LANDS THE FINAL BITE TO KILL THE FUCKER.

I think the main problem here is that if I open with Oak, the Venusaur pops out, and any preparation I do during the Pidgeot round will vanish. That makes Trunk that more appealing option for an opener.
Pidgeot, Gyarados, Arcanine, Alakazam, Rhydon (?), Venusaur.
If it wouldn’t mean the Venusaur coming out, I’d just let Oak handle everything. Maybe I ought to do that anyway, and just accept that I’ll be bleeding more X Defends than I want in this fight.

Okay, no... I don’t think that’s a good move. I was thinking I could teach Oak Calm Mind for some extra boosting, and it’s not a bad thought, but.

Gyarados and Arcanine both have Intimidate, but Oak has Special Attack as its primaries. If I use up some X Defends on the Pidgeot to leave room for Calm Mind... the only problem would be if the Pidgeot has Whirlwind. But if it did, that would be a separate issue anyway. I can’t smash through without setup.
Max Calm Minding should make it possible for Oak to survive long enough to nail the Venusaur with Ice Beam. Barring critical hit problems. That limits the pain of removing Bite, too. If Oak’s Special is all maxed, the particular move matters less.

Okay. My next question (s) are. What is your favorite Pokémon for each type? Like fire, water, electric, grass, poison, psychic, dark, ghost, dragon, fairy, normal, fighting, flying, ground, rock, bug, ice, and steel.
I love this question, but I'm not gonna lie, I only really like gen 1 pokemon because that's what I grew up on. Some gen 2 pokemon are okay, but I'm not really a fan of any others. Sorry bout it. So some of these might be real basic, but here we go: Fire - Charmander!, Charizard, Vulpix, Ninetails, Growlithe, Arcanine, Ponyta, Rapidash, Flareon, Moltres. Water - Squirtle, Wartortle, Blastoise, Vaporeon, Lapras, Dewgong, Gyarados, Golduck, Horsea, Seadra, Seaking (fuck yeah). Electric - Pikachu, Jolteon, Zapdos. Master Dex Challenge Week 7:
Sorry for the later and short post!
This week we completed Gen I, adding 14 pokémon for a total of 174/174! I finally bred a female Bulbasaur in Gen II. It took forever. I spent a whole day hatching eggs! Not a lot of progress, since the egg process took so much time, but just the right amount of progress.
Highlights:
Got all the in-game trades completed in Gen I, Lickitung, Jynx, and Farfetch’d.
Got female Venusaur! Also bred/evolved the Kanto starters this week!
Got Omastar line completed.
SIDE NOTE: I took so long for such little progress, because I’m almost complete with my Vivillon Dex! I’ve been working tirelessly on this, and I’m proud to say I’ve almost entirely completed it in only one week! Very pleased. Still missing the event forms, though.
This week I’m going to start playing Pokémon Crystal. I’m hoping to finish up Gen II soon and start in Gen III (ORAS, in this case, so Gen VI in truth).
I’m happy with this progress and I can’t wait to move on to higher Gens :)

#003: Venusaur
What an absolute unit, I’m in awe at the size of this lad.
Venusaur is the final glorious, lumpy form of our boy Bulbasaur and what a form it is! It’s wide, slow and squat, which implies the plant infesting its back is incredibly heavy! Its Pokedex entries show that Venusaur actually gains energy through photosynthesis too! I am all about parasites, beneficial or not, and Venusaur is a really cool example of mutualism! Venusaur ensures the plant gets a constant source of sun by walking around and in return the plant provides it with energy and some pretty kickass moves!
I can’t end my review of Venusaur without mentioning the adorably awkward walking animations it has in Let’s Go! Eevee/ Pikachu, (honestly, go have a watch if you haven’t seen them!) which implies it’s based heavily off of frogs rather than dinosaurs! The animation gives Venusaur 70% more leg than it seemed to have before, which I’m not entirely sure I ever wanted to see. Sorry, Venusaur.
Rating: 9/10
What a bonus! Mega Venusaur! This mega evolution gives it a far more impressive plant, a gorgeous forehead flower and brings back some of the darker markings of its previous evolutions! It wasn’t until I first saw Mega Venusaur that I realised Venusaur was missing those markings and it really makes a difference!
The flower on top of Mega Venusaur’s head is a lovely addition and I’m so glad Game Freak went ahead with it rather than an extra leaf!

Starter Tier List
This concept was done by a Poketuber by the name of Aura Guardian. I liked the idea of it so much that I did my own version of a few weeks ago while I was “watching” the video.
While most tier lists are based off of skill this one is based off of pure opinion. It will be ranked like your typical American grading system of A-F while adding in SSS Rank like you find in a lot of Japanese games using rank.
Rank F - Sceptile
This is the weakest Gen 3 starter for me. There is nothing I like about it., well maybe except its shiny. I don’t find Treeko cute/cool, despite my fondness for The Mystery Dungeon series I don’t like Grovyle’s design, and Sceptile (nor Mega Sceptile) appeals to me. There are better grass starters.
Emboar
Tepig is cute. That’s the ONLY reason this line is higher than the previous one.
Greninja
(I am about to get SO much backlash for this!)
I am going to have to go with Ace Trainer Liam here and say that Frogadier looks so much better than Greninja. Not only is Greninja so awkward looking but I hate its level up moveset! Originally I thought it had no business being a dark type, but honestly I’m feeling this way towards its water typing. You can argue this for its dark typing, but the ONLY reason it’s a water type is because it’s a frog (and maybe it being blue...). And unless you’re running a Protean ability Greninja than the damn thing is not that good! In my playthrough of Y with Greninja (I like to play with a starter to give it a chance) it was the weakest member on my team! My Aromatisse was far more viable and it’s not even on a competitive radar!
Charizard
Charmander is cute. I have fond memories of the anime with the entire line. I can understand why Charizard is a fan favorite. But I don’t like the way Charmeleon looks, and there are better fire starters. Sorry Charizard. Nice shiny though!
Rank D - Chesnaught
Generation 6 had some of the weakest starter designs I’ve ever seen. While Chesnaught appeals to me... the rest of the line not so much. Ironically Chespin was my reluctant pick for Gen 6, and I say this because the first evolutions are underwhelming, but a certain unnamed starter from this trio took its place.
Meganium
This starter line is okay. That’s the only reason why it is where it is on the list. I have nothing bad nor good to say about it. It’s not my favorite or despised either.
Infernape
Infernape looks pretty badass. It’s pre-evolutions I honestly don’t care for. Plus it has better competition in this trio.
Rank C - Feraligatr
Totodile is cute. Feraligatr is pretty badass. Croconaw... dear God that thing is ugly lol! It’s resonates better than the Meganium line and that;s why it’s higher on the list.
Swampert
It has a solid design and typing. It’s am automatic secondary pick for the trio it’s in.
Incineroar
This starter has come a loooong way! I initially despised this entire line! But after bonding with it I have a new found perspective of it. Unfortunately Litten is still unappealing to me, but I blame the 3D model. I though Torrecat was pretty damn ugly upon its reveal, but Pokemon Refresher showed how cute it was~ I also adore its sassy personality~ Incineroar grew on me as well. I used to find its design horrendous but then I figured out what about it I loathed, and that my friends... is its hands! They look cartoony being way too big on the Pokemon and it looks like it had all fingers instead of fingers and a thumb. Other than that... it has great charisma and I’m glad I gave the line a chance~!
Blastoise
There are not enough good middle stage evolutions for starters, and by God Wartortle is sooo adorable~! The ears just slay me~ But aside from my gushing Blastoise has a well designed water starter line. It;s not my favorite but I have nothing bad to say about it.
Rank B - Samurott
Oshawott was an easy choice for me among the Gen 5 starters. It was adorable and it won my heart instantaneously~! The final evolution in the form of Samurott wasn’t my favorite at first, but it’s grown on me~ Just wish the move pool was a little better... (Also! It should have had fighting not Goddamn Emboar! D<)
Serperior
Sassy and cute things are my weakness and Snivy was no exception to that rule. While I’m not a big fan of the middle evolution in this line, it doesn’t waver its place on this list. At some point I will use a Serperior to better appreciate this Pokemon.
Torterra
While I have not officially used one in the official Pokemon games I never realized how badly I needed the dual typing of grass and ground. Grotle was a God send in Pokemon Glazed for that stupidly overpowered first gym! (The game was great but for fuck sake the beginning of it was a pain in the ass for no reason other than that dumb idea that harder = challenging!) Torterra is a beast and one day I will finally add it to an official playthrough~
Empoleon
While I love the unique typing this final evolution has... sonavabitch do I hate the fact that it’s weak to a type it should be able to take out...! To be honest I’m not a fan of the middle evolution. It looks super awkward and doesn’t fit in with the cuteness of Piplup and the regalness of Empoleon. But in generation 4 there isn’t a contest for starters when you have such an adorable little starter who becomes something that classy and badass!
Rank A - Delphox
Fennekin was my least favorite of the first evolutions for the Gen 6 trio. While it’s still not my favorite in design, in fact, all the Gen 6 starters are unappealing to me, I adore what it becomes. Just like Torterra the unique typing of fire and psychic is desirable combination I didn’t realize I wanted (I know Victini has it but I don’t use legendaries)~ While I have used one in Pokemon X my official introduction to this Pokemon was in a fanmade game called Pokemon Insurgence (it is an amazing game which I highly recommend to any Pokemon fan), which may it and the other Delphox R.I.P. since they both perished in my egglocke 3;= While Braixen is the best designed out of the line Delphox isn’t half-bad~ That model cry though... *shudders*
Primarina
Popplio was kinda cute when first revealed. When Primarina was leaked I instantly fell in love with it~ ...Brionne... well... I hate it initially. I thought it was goofy looking upon its reveal. HOWEVER, Pokemon Refresher changed my mind so fast on that! Brionne is still awkward looking but in an adorable way now. It makes my heart melt~ I simply love Primarina and he was the star of my Ultra Moon playthrough~!
Venusaur
That’s right ya’ll, I’m a Bulbasaur fan! I chose easy mode and ain’t lookin’ back! What can I say about this dinosaur plant thing...? It’s just so cute~! And grass types are in my top 5 favorite types. While Ivysaur is a bit meh for me I can tolerate it better than other middle starter evolutions. Venusaur is just a huge more mature Bulbasaur with a big of toad in him now and sometimes all you need is for the little guy to just get a bit bigger, ya know?
SSS Rank - Blaziken
There’s no competition when it comes to playing Hoenn for your’s truly. I picked Torchic in my first playthrough of Ruby and I did the same when I picked up Omega Ruby. The only reason this starter choice is on the low end of the top is because of Combusken. I don’t hate the design but I don’t love it. To be honest I prefer Mega Blaziken’s design to normal Blaziken, but Blaziken is love none the less~<3
Decidueye
It took me FOREVER to pronounce this little shits name! But despite that lol, I simply adore this entire line~! I was Team Rowlet the moment I saw the little guy~<3! It is just so insidiously adorable, and the anime has not helped (need to actually watch it, but thanks to screen shots/GIFs none the less lol)! I don’t care what anyone says I love Dartrix~! He’s so cute and sassy and oh my God his freaking out over his hair just... *bemoans*! I love it...! Decidueye was the other starter leak I fell in love with. It’s just so cool looking and it fits with the rest of the line~ The entire line is just cute and cool and Gen 7 really had some good starter designs~ But even something so cute and cool as the Rowlet line was still beaten in the end...
TYPHLOSION
Cyndaquil is my favorite starter of all times. Pokemon Silver to this day, and that includes awesome remakes, is my favorite Pokemon game! And when I initially got the game as a pre-teen up to when the games were ported to the virtual console Cyndaquil was always my choice for a starter in Johto. Sadly I had fallen out of Pokemon for a brief time so I missed out on Heart Gold & Soul Silver (ROMs don’t count dammit lol!)... Cyndaquil is just the cutest thing while Quilava is both cute and cool with Typhlosion just being such a BAMF! The entire line proves that you can be simplistic and still have a good design. All Cyndaquil did was get bigger and meaner and it works~! And that’s why it’s on the top~! ^v^
