My Humble Opinion: Nicola Coughlan is hands-down the prettiest of the main actresses on Bridgerton.
Tumblr media
My New Obsession: I would really love to see her as young Celebrian matched up with Robert Aramayo's young Elrond.
Tumblr media
I've often seen Celebrian being imagined by her fans as a shorter and curvier-figured elf, which I also love, so this fancast doesn't seem off-base.
But it's okay if no one agrees with me. This has become a vividly clear thing in my head now. Young Elrond and Young Celebrian are meeting and falling in love in the Second Age and it's so pure and beautiful. I'm inspired.
I may have also just seen the trailer for Bridgerton S3 and I'm vibrating with excitement for the Polin storyline.

I love Domhall Gleeson so much, you have no idea!!! 😱😍😭❤️ I was already super interested in your wonderfully conceived Derufin before, and now I'm even more determined to bring him into my AU with a significant role! With your permission, of course!
I know he's technically canon, but the character is one of those blank slates that makes him practically an OC (in my view, anyway). When you have the time, could you please give me an info dump of everything you've created for him, as much as you are comfortable sharing? If you don't mind! :)
And speaking of fancasting, is his father Duinhir played by Brendan Gleeson by any chance? 😂
PS. Have fun with BG3! I haven't played it myself, but my sister spent a solid amount of time being lost to that game too. So I understand the fixation. 😂
Thank you so much for sending this ask @sotwk! And thank you for your infinite patience, unfortunately my new job has been hectic so I've had to delay forming a replay, but HERE WE GO!
The second I read your idea about Brendan Gleeson being Duinhir it immediately became my canon also <3.
There are some things about the Derufin/Morwen/Boromir triangle that I've cut out from Under Our Darkening Skies.
"When Lady Morwen had first arrived in Minas Tirith, she had wasted no time to approach Boromir and subtly prodded him on his designs regarding marriage. He was, after all, the most sought after bachelor in Gondor. A bachelor still, in his late thirties, to his father’s eternal chagrin. In response, the Steward’s Heir equally gently had let slip that he had not been planning to take a wife, and she had quickly pranced off to the greener pastures that the City offered."
Because of Morwen initially setting her sights on Boromir (I mean duh), Derufin is still to this day reluctant to make his feelings for her known. He thinks Morwen still prefers Boromir. In reality Morwen's making a pass on Boromir back then had been dictated more by her youthful ambition than any real feelings for him or even any genuine regard. So, Derufin, grow a pair and just ask her out already!!!
Some more trivia:
Derufin's older brother Duilin is prone to brooding and melancholy while Derufin is the funny, carefree one.
Derufin's love for Lady Morwen is rivalled only by his love for his finely made and custom-decorated yew longbow - a gift from Lord Steward given for Derufin's knighting. He has, of course, named the bow after the Lady. Boromir groans loudly whenever he's reminded of it. Derufin is so so so cringe about his bow but also INSANELY good at archery.
Derufin is one of the few people who know about Boromir's fling with the Archivist. He found out accidentally (and has been wishing to erase the image from his brain ever since).
Derufin is actually not the only member of Boromir and Faramir's friend group from their youth. The "pack", aside from Boromir, Faramir, Derufin and Duilin, also included Hirluin the Fair (nicknamed Pretty Boy by Derufin). Faramir befriended Hirluin when he squired in under Hador, the Lord of Pinnath Gelin. Hirluin (who has as of 3018 TE succeeded his late father) is a ladies man and a party animal, so his friendship with Faramir is an unlikely one. However, their bond is strong because of the shared memories from their youth.
I dread what will become of these babies during the Battle of Pelennor. Just know that I am out od my mind and I can promise nothing :D

Henry Cavill and Horses
Please enjoy this lovely assortment of Henry Cavill with horses whilst my mind brews up some headcanons regarding the role and history of horses in the Woodland Realm. For the uninitiated, Henry Cavill is fancast as a Mirkwood Prince in my fanfics.

Jennifer Connelly's Beauty: Appreciation Post
Relevance? She is my personal fancast/face claim for the Elvenqueen, aka Thranduil's wife aka Legolas's mother--my OC, Queen Maereth.
I just think Jennifer is SO beautiful, in a very timeless (Elvish) way, with the "dark", seductive beauty of the Noldor/Feanoreans.
Definitely the kind of beauty that would stop even Thranduil in his tracks!

I was wondering who are your fancasts for your headcanon world?
<33
Hiiii Quickie! @quickslvxrr
Am I right in guessing that your question was prompted by my reblog of your reblog of Charlie Hunnam's gif set? XD
Because if so, I will just say that I am very excited to have selected Charlie as my fancast for Théodred of Rohan! (Excited because I hope to start writing chapters of my Eomer x OC fic soon, which actually co-stars dear Théodred.)
I have a growing fancast list for the SotWK AU! I still need to get around to making an official and complete list, but since you seem curious, here is majority of what I have so far.
Apart from Reader Insert stories I write in response to requests, all fics and characters I create are grounded in the SotWK AU, so these characters exist consistently across and crossover between my stories.

Who of the children of Thranduil is:
The most noble.
most mischievous.
most wise.
most dangerous.
Why do you pick them for that trait?
What an AWESOME question--thank you! I'm not sure if you're new to my blog but if you are, Welcome to the SotWK AU! <3 I love how the qualities you asked about easily falls in perfect and honest assignment, one to each of my OC Princes! I guess it's cool that each Thranduilion is quite distinct from the other.
Superlatives with the Thranduilions
Most Noble: Crown Prince Mirion
Tumblr media
SotWK Fancast: Henry Cavill as Mirion Thranduilion
Mirion was such a paragon of honor and virtue that his own father looked up to him. Thranduil would sometimes even tell people that the Crown Prince would make a better king than him one day. Despite the pressure of such high praise, Mirion worked hard to live up to those expectations, and he found joy in that life of service to his people and his family. His kindness and humility made him beloved by everyone... except for the Necromancer in Dol Guldur, who aimed to see him dead and out of the way. The Necromancer used Mirion's sense of duty against him and tricked the prince into sacrificing himself in an ill-fated attempt to bring down Dol Guldur.
Most Mischievous: Prince Gelir
Tumblr media
SotWK Fancast: Sam Claflin as Gelir Thranduilion
Gelir exhibited the same rebellious, free-spirited personality that Thranduil possessed in his youth, but had to curb when he took on the responsibility of kingship. The fourth-born prince challenged and skirted protocol every chance he got, and often complained about feeling stifled by the rules attached to his royal station. He always enjoyed making jokes and pulling pranks and initiating spontaneous adventures, even when it caused (harmless) trouble and chaos. Fortunately, he was also charming and likeable enough to soothe the nerves of people who might otherwise have taken offense at his shenanigans.
Most Wise: Prince Arvellas
Tumblr media
SotWK Fancast: Rupert Friend as Arvellas Thranduilion
Arvellas's superior intelligence was evident from infancy, and he was the only prince to devote himself almost entirely to academics in lieu of martial arts and other physical pursuits preferred by the Silvans. As a result, Arvellas caused the number of scholars in the realm to rise and rival that of the other great kingdoms in Middle-earth. He became the Woodland Realm's most skilled healer, most accomplished linguist, and best diplomat. He was responsible for the realm's alliances with the Longbeard dwarves who came to live in the Grey Mountains and Erebor, but those friendships were greatly damaged in the tragedy of his death. More than his innate intelligence, Arvellas's wisdom came from his sense of justice and goodness, and his ability to remain calm and act prudently under stress or in dire situations.
Most Dangerous: Prince Turhir
Tumblr media
SotWK Fancast: Sam Heughan as Turhir Thranduilion
If Mirion was hated by the Dark Lord, Turhir was coveted by him. Only his younger age and lesser experience prevented Turhir from completely surpassing Thranduil as the greatest warrior of the realm. He excelled almost supernaturally in all physical challenges, and had flawless combat instincts. Like Thranduil, he never shied away from violence and killing when deemed necessary. Turhir's heart was just as golden as the rest of his family, but a lifetime as a soldier (not properly balanced with other pursuits) took its toll differently on his mind and spirit as the Darkness spread in Mirkwood. He also had the misfortune of being the only one to witness the deaths of his brothers Mirion and Arvellas, and that damaged him in ways that would never heal. From there his emotional state deteriorated so badly that his parents began to fear that he was prone to corruption by the Darkness--which may be what the Necromancer had intended.
But what about Prince Legolas?
As I have mentioned in past headcanon posts, what makes Legolas so impressively multi-faceted (especially as he appears in the movies) is his wide range of skills. He is the jack-of-all traits that carries pieces of his family's best qualities in him. The youngest Thranduilion is naturally gifted on his own right, but his greatest asset (in my HC at least) is his ability to adapt, mimic, and learn. And he had not only both parents, but also four older brothers to help raise him and pass their knowledge onto him. Having older siblings to look up to as role models, to train with and to motivate him to do better, helped Legolas to grow into an incredible warrior and excellent friend and companion to the Fellowship.

hi! in the spirit of showing oc love, I was wondering if there's a particular oc you're looking forward to introducing to people in upcoming projects?
I'm tripping over myself to answer this Ask! (Thank you thank you thank you, Ace!)
May I please introduce two?
I've been shy about sharing these because they're not only Silmarillion OCs (I'm still intimidated by the Silm fandom, even though I have many lovely Mutuals from there, you included), they're OC WIVES of Silm Canons. Two of the most popular Silm canons. I'm pretty sure OC creators have been flogged for that.
But since you asked... onward with SotWK AU reveals and spoilers! The stories are tragic because that's the First Age for you!
Velcálë Vanandur
Wife of Maglor and grandmother of Elvenqueen Maereth (wife of Thranduil)
Tumblr media
SotWK Fancast: Zendaya Coleman as Velcálë
Her name means "flame doer" in Quenya.
Velcálë had one child with Maglor, a daughter named Laurinwen, who was born and grew up in Tirion.
She was a Noldorin apprentice who served directly under Vána, and was thus given the prestigious epithet "Vanandur" (Servant of Vána).
She was a great tender of gardens, and her songs could cause plants to immediately flower or bear fruit.
Only out of love and devotion to Maglor did she decide to follow the Fëanorians in Exile, taking their daughter with them.
Velcálë was greatly affected by the violence of her kin and constantly homesick for Valinor. A lover of light and warmth, she suffered in the harsh lands where her family dwelt.
The toll of her heartbreak muted the strength and power she possessed in Valimar to nearly nothing, although she did her best to help sustain their people by cultivating the lands for limited-scale food production.
Because she tried to hold Maglor back from "necessary" violence and constantly made him question his commitment to the Oath, she was disliked by all of her brothers-in-law, except for Maedhros.
Velcálë was eventually slain in the battle of Dagor Bragollach when Himlad fell, leading to a permanent estrangement between Maglor and his daughter, Laurinwen.
Tumblr media
Elemírë
Wife of Glorfindel and twin sister of Elenwë (wife of Turgon)
Tumblr media
SotWK Fancast: Vanessa Kirby as Elemírë
Elemírë had a fierce warrior’s spirit, but violence of any kind was considered unbecoming by her family.
She joined the Exile because she did not want to be separated from her sister Elenwë, a gentle spirit whom she always sought to protect.
She was loved by her childhood friend, Glorfindel. Although she reciprocated his feelings, he was the more passionate and demonstrative one. Elemírë factored in Glorfindel's own decision to (reluctantly) join the Exile.
Elemírë nearly died trying to dive under the Grinding Ice to save her sister, but she was held back by Glorfindel. This embittered her heart towards him. Instead of following Turgon to Vinyamar (and eventually Gondolin), she decided to join Fingon’s people.
Over the course of the decades, she grew into a skilled cavalry rider, and was accepted into the ranks of Fingon. She became devoted to Fingon for personally mentoring and training her.
During the Long Peace, Glorfindel (who had missed and yearned for Elemírë all those years), sought permission from Turgon to leave Gondolin so he could seek her out.
He came to Hithlum reaffirming his love for her and seeking her hand in marriage. Elemírë would not say yes, but could not bring herself to refuse him either. Glorfindel committed to staying for as long as needed to convince her, and this courtship lasted for nearly half a century.
Eventually, Fingon himself encouraged Elemírë to realize and follow her true desires for peace and love. She betrothed herself to Glorfindel and returned to Gondolin with him.
The couple married and bore one child, a son named Ingwil.
As the Lady of the House of the Golden Flower, Elemírë was also one of its fiercest warriors. She fought alongside her husband for the first time in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad.
Elemírë died during the Fall of Gondolin, rescuing her son from an attacking fire drake, which she successfully slayed before perishing.
Tumblr media
Thank you again for the ask @hobbitwrangler, and for encouraging my foray into the Silm fandom. I hope you (and anyone reading this) enjoy learning about these OC ladies! Maybe with the right amount of courage, time, and motivation, I may someday even write some actual one-shots including them!

I've found my personal fancast for Glorfindel!!!
I struggled with this one for so long! The perfect Glorfindel has to check SO many boxes: devastatingly handsome, god-tier buff, charismatic and approachable, extremely wise yet joyfully innocent, old AND youthful at the same time, terrifying when serious/angry but super comforting otherwise, a kingly leader who would also humbly submit to higher authority.
But now that I've realized who I want to cast as Glorfindel in the SotWK AU, I'm like, why didn't I think of him before???
SotWK AU Fancast: Patrick Wilson as Glorfindel
Tumblr media
There are images of him in GOLD ARMOUR and everything!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not only does he have the buff physique going on, but if you've watched anything Patrick Wilson has been on, the man has incredible emotional range. I LOVE Patrick Wilson so much. He's as underrated as he is talented (which is a LOT).
Oh and that SMILE. Tell me that smile isn't pure dreamy sunshine and warm comfort.
Bonus: You know he can SING, right???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Special thank you to the friends who oiled my rusty gears and essentially redirected the creative train to the Glorfindel simping track: @hobbitwrangler @glorf1ndel @from-the-coffee-shop-in-edoras @scyllas-revenge and pretty much everyone who's interacted with me during the drought.
Now I'm gonna go lie down and try to calm myself and be normal about this discovery.

SotWK AU Fancast: Théodred of Rohan
Because @from-the-coffee-shop-in-edoras got me thinking about it and excited over it again, I'm going to drop a fancast reveal for my upcoming Eomer x OC series (spin-off to "Taken").
In the SotWK AU (as the film adaptation plays in my head), Théodred son of Théoden is portrayed by none other than the gorgeous Charlie Hunnam.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Very much looking forward to the opportunity to expand on and give voice to this heroic, intriguing, yet woefully underutilized character! Gonna have to do a lot more research on Rohan and headcanon crafting, though! The labor should be worth it!
Side note/warning: A thousand apologies; this fic will not be a fix-it and he will still keep his canon death. But at least it will shine a light on what an amazing character he was before the tragic loss!
Tagging my friend @laurfilijames for reasons obvious to her. ;)

random no pressure ask: share a bit of oc lore you've been working on recently/haven't shared before💛
feel free to pass this ask on to others!
Thank you for the Ask and wonderful opportunity to drop more fic spoilers! <3 And thank you for supporting OCs!
Those who follow me closely enough would already know I am focusing on two multi-chapter stories this year, both of them spin-offs from my Canon x Reader Insert fics:
From "Breathe":
Tumblr media
From "Taken":
Tumblr media
The two love interests in these fics will actually become good friends in "Change the Stars" (which takes place post-RotK), to go hand-in-hand with the brotherly friendship between Boromir and Éomer that I wish to expand on. Although these two ladies are very different, they also find plenty of commonalities and shared experiences to bond over (not just about their men). Their shared qualities include:
Both are orphans (lost both parents very early).
Both come from controversial backgrounds. (details to follow)
Both are viewed as "unsuitable" for the men they love, due to class division and prejudice.
Both are fiercely loyal to their homelands and their people.
Both stand up for themselves and pursue their chosen paths successfully despite being underestimated and looked down on.
Both are very much in love with their men, but are prepared to sacrifice futures with them to do the right thing.
Now, without further ado, just because I can't sit on this any longer... I would like to introduce the names and faces of these new OCs:
Aerdis, Lady of Gondor
SotWK Fancast: Freida Pinto
Tumblr media
"What other explanation could there be for him asking for you ? On the evening of a kingdom-wide celebration, when every fair lady in Gondor was clamoring to gain even just a few moments of his attention? Who were you? Just a produce vendor with your own little stall in the lower markets of the White City." - Excerpt from Breathe
Tumblr media
Signyr, Shield-maiden of Rohan
SotWK Fancast: Katheryn Winnick
Tumblr media
"He had forgotten what a vision she made outside of armor, so long had they lived in battle gear. The gown she wore to the coronation ball had distracted him all evening, but it painted her beauty too foreign. The plain clothes of their people suited her best. On her, the wine-red dress underneath her green Rider’s cloak outstripped any fine silk confection. Her hair, usually held back in tight braids or trapped underneath a war helm, flowed in free waves that tumbled to her waist and made his fingers ache with longing." - Excerpt from Taken
Tumblr media
Thank you for coming to my sneak peek, and I hope you continue to be patient with me as I work towards getting these fics going! <3 Your encouragement is SO invaluable and helps SO much.

hello! you mentioned before how Maereth is a descendant of one of Feanor's sons but you haven't revealed it yet and no one has guessed it yet either
in a spur of the moment (and adrenaline from lack of sleep and too much work) 🤣 i would like to take a guess... is it Maglor? I did some searching and it seems he is the only one among the sons to have been married and live long enough for Maereth be born around 553 years of the sun (based on the end notes of last chapter, greenleaf's day out)
(I hope I spelled the names correctly 😅)
I know this reply is a bit late, my Anon friend, but you have to believe me that I was MASSIVELY EXCITED so receive your message! I haven't been in a huge rush to make a big reveal about Elvenqueen Maereth, though a couple of other friends have shown interest in her "hidden identity". But it's been a year since I first started writing about her, and you are the first one to come forward with a guess about her lineage.
YOU ARE CORRECT! Mostly. Queen Maereth, beloved wife of Elvenking Thranduil, comes from the line of Fëanor through his second son, Maglor. But Maglor is not Maereth's father, but rather her maternal grandfather.
From her father's side, Maereth is actually half-Teleri, and is the granddaughter of another renowned elf-lord, Círdan! (In the SotWK AU, Círdan wed one of the granddaughters of Olwë, a Falmari who had done the unthinkable and crossed the Helcaraxë, following her cousin Galadriel.)
Ever wonder how Legolas (seemingly randomly) turned out to be a shipwright in the Fourth Age? There is your headcanon explanation. It's in his blood!
This also means the last ruler of Eryn Lasgalen, Thranduil's grandson and heir, Aranion, son of Mirion, carries the blood of all three groups of Calaquendi. (He has Vanyar blood from his mother, Itarildë.) Just one of my favorite bits of SotWK HC lore.
I would have to make a very long post (or several) to fully explain the lineage of Maereth. That's quite a project that will take some time. So for now, please enjoy the quick summary of her ancestry, along with my fancast for the OC and canon characters. <3

Sam Roland Heughan was born on 30 April 1980 in the historic county of Dumfries and Galloway. His parents had been part of a hippie community in London called Gandalf's Garden which was heavily influenced by the works of J. R. R. Tolkien inspiring them to name Heughan and his older brother after characters from The Lord of the Rings. Source: Wikipedia article on Sam Heughan
IMHO, this is reason enough to regularly include Sam Heughan on my Tolkien-centric blog. What a shame the film producers missed out on casting an actor who is not only physically perfect for the role, but would have been personally invested due to his connection to Tolkien! He was named after Samwise Gamgee, while his brother is named Cirdan.
I also found an article that claims (not sure how true it is) that Sam auditioned for "an elf role" that was later given to Liv Tyler... so it's possible he could have been Glorfindel!!
LOOK HOW HANDSOME. He would have made an excellent Glorfindel, or Celeborn, or Finrod, or any Silm elf!!
It's all good though; I'll take him to cast in one of my own OC roles.

we need more of mirion acting like a dad to his brothers and babying legolas, I really love mirion.
OMG ANON I REALLY LOVE MIRION TOO. 😭❤️ And only a small part of it is because he is THIS beautiful:
Tumblr media
Fancast: Henry Cavill (Geralt) as Mirion Thranduilion
I really try not to play favorites like a good Momma should, but Mirion was the first of the Thranduilions I created many years ago, and a special love was really poured into his character design.
He is the only one of the Thranduilions to canonically (in the SotWK AU) be married and have children of his own, so he has tremendous Good Dad energy, which stems from also having very strong Good Big Brother energy.
Mirion was such a beloved son and big brother that Thranduil created a title to honor his status as leader and caretaker of his siblings: "Caun-i-Conin" or "Prince of Princes".
When Dol Guldur started to rise and endanger the realm, Mirion served his people so valiantly and devotedly that he was given another title: "Varyando en Eryn Galen" or "Protector of Greenwood".
Sauron/The Necromancer hated Mirion and saw his strength and goodness as a great threat; this led to him being targeted. Sauron also knew how deeply and especially Thranduil loved his first-born, and what better way to hurt the Elvenking than to destroy what he loved best?
Mirion's story gets very angsty towards the end, so for now I prefer to focus on the happiness he brought to his family. I promise to bring you more of his Dad/Big Brother stories in the coming year!
Thank you so much for telling me this, and giving me a chance to gush over my treasured OC! Lots of love to you! :)

Ps: I forgot to say Connie Nielsen is gorgeous. Thank you for fancasting her as my beloved Celebrian!
YES! Connie Nielsen is breathtaking, from Gladiator to Wonder Woman! Thank you for validating my choice for Celebrían! :) The Lady of Imladris is such a beautiful and beloved character who has to be worthy of Elrond himself, so I was a bit nervous about sharing my vision for her appearance. She delivers such a perfect balance of delicate beauty and inner toughness, of sweet innocence and noble wisdom.

I just watched a Fëanorean fanvideo, and they casted Chris Evans as Maglor. And I remember in 2016 he said to Lee Pace he really want to be part of middle earth because he reads and watched the movies. But my brain always potraying him as Oropher. So what do you think? What characters suit him if he get the chance??
Tumblr media
Oooh I love Chris Evans! He's so bee-yoo-tee-ful and charming! But he made SUCH an amazing Captain America (a character I love even more) that it's become hard for me to see him in roles too different from that.
So for me, I would probably fancast him in a Captain America equivalent in Middle-earth. I don't personally see him as one of the Eldar, but the Edain. Specifically the House of Hador.
So any of the following could be a good fit, depending on how tragic a role you want him to play. (He'd have to go blonde, though, which I am not a huge fan of. But oh that magnificent beard!)
Húrin (probably my first choice)
Túrin (meh?)
Tuor (better)
Eärendil (second choice, because what a HERO. but no beard?)
Elros (probably the least appropriate, but at least he can keep his hair color!)

What a nice thing to imagine! Sorry for taking so long to answer this my friend! It's been a while. I hope 2024 has been kind to you so far! Lots of hugs! <3
