Incredible 1933 Spanish home in West Hills, CA has 6bds, 5ba, $6.495M.
The rustic Spanish home has beautiful beamed ceilings, rustic doors, brick walls and a large fireplace painted white.
We know that the statues belong to the homeowners, but the frames are likely architectural salvage pieces that also belong to them.
Lovely arched windows. When I look at a home like this, I think of how long it must've taken to collect all of the beautiful furniture and accessories and I know that I could never make it look like this.
I like the archways and look at the stained glass.
In this room, there's a huge curved built-in brick sofa. I like the tile floors going throughout the house.
Another beautiful fireplace with round stained glass windows, and built-in benches and platforms.
Beautiful architecture.
Curved brick walls and another round stained glass window.
The dining room is very big and has 2 sets of doors to the patio.
The corner fireplace in here is beautiful.
The stucco walls and arches in the halls are wonderful.
The fireplaces in this home! And, each one is different. What a huge library.
This is nice, the bath has an original vintage tub.
Beautiful carved sink vanity has double sinks and the typical Spanish tile counter.
The brick patio is like a picture with it's container gardens and fountain.
The patio continues around the house where there's a gorgeous outdoor fireplace.
Nice covered area.
Here, the patio changes to stone. What wonderful grill work on the windows.
The whole house is just beautiful.
They've got a little shrine here.
The drive is lined by lovely stone walls.
Look at these 2 dudes chillin' in the shade. I wonder if they convey.
The land is 6.70 acres.

Steel Brocade: Puffed & Slashed Costume Armor
Surviving to this day in the collections of the world’s most illustrious museums are a group of three armors. These armors have much in common, but most striking is the attempts made by their armorers to render in steel a convincing portrayal of the puffed and slashed clothing fashionable to the early 16th century.
Though this fashion is synonymous with the landsknecht mercenaries who may have been responsible for popularizing it, the puffed and slashed style was enjoyed by members at all levels of society.
Portrait of Duke Henry of Saxony by Lucas Cranach the Elder, 1514, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen, Dresden.
The earliest of these three armors is housed at the Wallace Collection. Consisting only of a cuirass and arms, this armor is, at first glance, rather underwhelming when compared with the other armors in this group. Though the embossed bands styled with etched slashes embellished with gold provide the impression of a puffed and slashed doublet, the execution is all rather stiff, and lacks the impressive volume and fullness exemplified by the other armors.
It is for this reason that this armor, previously considered contemporary to the KHM and Metropolitan examples, has received relatively little attention. However, recent scholarship by Dr. Tobias Capwell suggests that this work is not, indeed, contemporary to the other examples, and is rather about ten years older, dating to ca. 1515. Dr. Capwell also considers this piece to be the work of Konrad Seusenhofer, a favored armorer of the Emperor Maximilian I.
Seen through this lens, not as a poorly executed contemporary of greater armors, but as a less developed ancestor to them, this armor takes on new life. It speaks to innovation and experimentation; an early attempt at a technique which would later be perfected.
The second in this line is the garniture of Wilhelm von Rogendorf, housed at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
This armor is unique for its condition, which is remarkably good. Not only does this armor retain more of its pieces than the other two, it is also accompanied by a number of “pieces of exchange,” elements which could be swapped out so the armor could be worn in the field.
Finished in 1523, as attested to by the date etched on the right shoulder strap, this armor was made for the Count Wilhelm von Rogendorf by Kolman Helmschmid and etched by Daniel Hopfer.
Wilhelm von Rogendorf himself was heir to a new, up-and-coming German noble family.
A medal showing Wilhelm von Rogendorf as a Knight of the Order of Calavatra, dated 1536, Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna.
Born in 1481 the second son of Kaspar von Rogendorf, Wilhelm became heir to his family’s estates when his elder brother Sigmund died in 1507, by which time Wilhelm was already a courtier at the Habsburg court. He entered into the service of King Charles I of Spain (later Emperor Charles V) no later than 1517 and was appointed Governor of Friesland. In 1522, Wilhelm accompanied Charles to Spain where he commanded a regiment of 4,000 landsknechts and was again placed in charge of a restless border territory. In 1524, he successfully captured the Fortress of Fuenterrabía from the French, which won him great praise from the Emperor. Shortly thereafter, Wilhelm was named Captain of the Imperial Bodyguard and given the governorships of Catalonia, the Cerdagne, and the Roussillon. Additionally, he was appointed to the Spanish chivalric Order of Calavatra. Wilhelm would retire from court in 1539, but would be recalled in 1541 to command Imperial troops against the Ottomans in Hungary. He would be killed later that same year at the siege of Buda by a stray cannonball.
Though Wilhelm’s armor is now displayed in its parade configuration, the surviving pieces of exchange attest to the fact that it was also an armor for combat. The cuirass is equipped with the long tassets common to the early 16th century. A pair of holes can be observed at the top of the last lame.
These holes correspond to holes at the top of the half-cuisses which accompany this armor, showing that these cuisses would be pointed to the tassets rather than worn separately.
In the rear, the cuirass is accompanied by a rump-defense, also known as a hoguine. Small turning pins near the waist allow this to be removed for combat.
Both spaulders
and gauntlets
survive. Additionally, the KHM retains the armor’s right vambrace
while the Wallace Collection holds the rerebrace and couter for the left arm.
Recently, these pieces were assembled to show what the arm harness for field as a single unit would have looked like.
This armor would also have been accompanied by a gorget, now missing, and a helmet. Frequently, this armor is displayed alongside a close-helmet, however it is more likely the armor would have been accompanied by a burgonet similar in form to this example from the KHM.
One final, unique surprise this armor holds is a hidden lance rest which is incorporated into the turned edge by the right arm. This rest folds down to allow a light lance to be braced atop it, and when folded up, is nearly invisible so as to not ruin the smooth surface of the breastplate with the prominent staples typically required for affixing a lance rest.
The third and final armor of this group is housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The least complete of these three armors, it may also be the most visually impressive. Comprised of only a backplate, hoguine, and arms, the puffs and slashes of this piece (also by Kolman Helmschmid and Daniel Hopfer) are ornately cusped. The slashed regions, displaying the gilded “fabric” beneath, and heavily etched to resemble an expensive silk brocade.
The sleeves of this armor are even more voluminous than those of the Rogendorf armor, though they are similarly articulated and provide the wearer with a surprising degree of mobility. It is thought that this armor may have been made for prominent Polish nobleman Jerzy Herkules Radziwill.
Interestingly, the hoguine of this armor is composed of two separate plates, rather than a single solid plate. Where the hoguine of the other two armors terminates in a decorative fabric border, the Met armor continues into two more articulated lames, covering the top rear of the thighs. Holes along the bottom edge suggest that this armor may have been accompanied by fully enclosing cuisses which pointed to the bottom of the fauld and hoguine.

˚ ✧ ✩ 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐘𝐨𝐫𝐤 ✩ ✧ ˚
From the moment you were able to comprehend words, you have always longed for a prince just as the pretty princesses did in your storybooks. All afternoon, you would giggle as your mother would sit in her tall, wooden chair. Reading your stories as her melodic voice danced as the sound hit your ears, you sitting big-eyed on the floor, just happy to listen.
Your father’s business had slowed down over the past couple of months and before you knew it, you packed your bags and moved from your large estate in New Orleans to a smaller home all the way in the Big Apple (New York). You weren’t very thrilled about the new move either.
You’ve always believed your life would end with a happily ever after, no matter how bad things got. But that narrative shortly altered as on your 14th birthday, your mother died, her body becoming too frail and weak to fight her illness anymore. After that, you felt so miserable. You’ve always admired her, from her modest and ladylike style to her soothing voice that could always make the burning feeling in your throat ease as you sobbed in her chest. Her scent of vanilla and cocoa butter lingered in your nostrils as you nestled in the crook of her neck, her warm and slim hands gently rubbing your back and cooing sweet nothings in your ear. And now she’s just..gone..?
Ever since then, you couldn't get over the fact that she was really gone. You tried to keep her memory alive the best you could, keeping small mementos around your room. Once you forgot the exact shade of her eye color and vowed to yourself you’d never forget anything else again. Was it honey brown or a deep brown? You didn’t know, your vision blurred as tears burned your eyes as you searched around your room for even a photograph of her.
Although that was how it felt on the inside, your physical appearance didn’t change one bit. Apart from your sunken eyes and the redness in the crease of your eyelid, your attitude didn’t change towards people. You remained upbeat and kind, but somehow there was always a sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach no matter how hard you tried to act like you were truly happy.
As you were deep in thought in the backseat of a taxi, you jumped a little as you heard a man speaking to you.
“This your stop?” He spat with a hint of an urgency, his thick accent making it a tad hard to comprehend.
“Hm? Oh, yessir.” You nodded as you speedily handed the man his a handful of cash and exited the car, afraid to get a tardy on the first day of school.
“You already paid.” The man said, trying to hand you back the money,
“Just a tip.” You shrugged as you walked up the steps of the school building and pushed open the doors.
As you walked through Brooklyn Visions, looking like a lost cat as you gazed at everything with a sparkle in your eye, you felt people staring at you. Maybe it was the way you decorated your uniform with golden jewelry and pearls or how it was obvious you weren’t from here, either way they were staring.
When you found your classroom, you gripped the cold, metal handle and took a deep breath, bracing yourself for the long day it was about to be before opening. As you closed the door behind you and immediately, all eyes were on you which made you a little uncomfortable.
“Yes Ms?” You spoke softly.
“Would you like to introduce yourself?” She gestured back to the class.
“No thank you, where do I sit?”
“Next to…” She glanced around the room for an open seat.
“Sit next to Miles.” She pointed. “Raise your hand Miles” She said a little louder.
“Hm..? Oh yeah.” He whispered under his breath as he set down his pencil he was scribbling with.
You gazed upon the freckled-faced boy, taking note of his appearance for a second. You walked over to the desk, pulled out the chair, and sat next to him, your leg bouncing as you silently sat and stared at the ground, trying to not get uncomfortable by the staring kids even if they made an effort not to make it evident.
As the teacher clicked play on the projector and the lights in the classroom dimmed, you felt a little nudge beside you.
“You new here?” Miles whispered softly.
“Hm..?” You mumbled, leaning in a little as your eyes stuck to the board as the video played out.
“You new here?” He repeated with a slight sigh.
“Oh yea! ‘Just moved in.” You chirped quietly.
You soon began to have a full conversation with the boy, your gaze adjusting to his face. Where you came from, how the South was like, your favorite songs. It all just flowed out so naturally with him.
“I like Sade t-“
And just as the discussion was just getting good, you heard a piercing voice cut you off.
“Ms. Y/n and Mr. Morales?” The teacher narrowed her eyes as she spoke as she paused the video.
“Yes’m?” You quickly lowered your head slightly to the ground as he did the same.
“Yes ma’am?” He spoke softly.
“Stop talking or I’ll separate the two of you.” She spoke, her hands crossed before she unpaused the video and sat back on her desk.
“Yes’m.” “Yes ma’am.” You both said in unison, eyes pointing back up at the board.
After the class got dismissed, you packed up all your things until you felt a tiny tap on your shoulder again.
“So uh..Y/n?”
“Mhm?” You said with a slight smile.
“Could I maybe..give you a tour of the school..?” He mumbled quickly, tugging at his collar subconsciously.
“Oh s’pose..” Your smile grew a tiny bit larger as he enveloped his warm hand in yours and sauntered with you all around campus. He showed you the gym, the cafeteria and even walked you to your next class.
Throughout the day, you couldn’t help but ponder why the boy took such an interest in you, playing with the tight bun that sat on top of your head I’m the school bathroom mirror while you scrunched your nose at the light but familiar smell as you adjusted the satin bow in the back. Pushing the pins back into place with ease. Your wonders would soon come to a halt as you sat at an empty lunch table, your cheek in your palm as your elbow rested comfortably on the table. You were picking at the suspicious pieces on ‘pineapples’ with your fork when you saw a familiar face.
“Miles?” You smiled with a glimmer of relief as you motioned him to come sit with you, hoping to make atleast one companion.
The boy happily accepted your request and sat next to you. And just like that, you made your first friend. Short “hi’s” as you crossed paths in the halls turned into walking each other to and from class, then getting each other numbers, which transitioned into a talking stage, and before you knew it, you had the prince you’d always dreamt of since you were a little girl. A prince who loved and cherished you the way you thought of him.
Miles was such a sweetheart, which made comfortable confiding in him. Though the two of you had things in common, you both had the same values and beliefs which you cared cared for the most. You shared with him your struggles to make meaningful connections with people and why you truly came to New York, despite feeling a tad embarrassed. You even opened up to him about your late mother and how difficult it has been since she passed. And throughout each talk or meltdown, he was always there. He let you sob into his arms as you cuddled in his chest comfortably, running his warm hands up and down your back. And even if his gifts weren’t the most expensive, they were priceless in your eyes. Every time you weren’t feeling your best, a little origami swan or rose would sit on your windowsill, making your heart flutter with excitement each time. Or, you a little goodie bag with your favorite snacks were disguised perfectly behind your text books, your giggles would make his cheeks heat up as you read his corny lil love letters. And for the first time in months, you were truly happy.
One evening while Miles was walking you home, pinkies interlocked, he mumbled something that caught your attention.
“So how would you feel if you uhm.. met my parents..?” He said in a hushed tone, pulling on his collar out of habit.
“Meeting your parents?” You smiled, feeling a bit of a rush that he had thought you were that important.
He answered with a swift nod.
“Id love to!” You kissed on the nose sweetly as the walk stopped short at the front door of your house.
“Tomorrow at 6?” He looked down at you while you looked up.
“Mhm,” You nodded as you waved goodbye to him and entered your home, rushing up the stairs to brainstorm an outfit to wear for this new occasion. Your daddy was home as usual, so you decided to just leave a sticky note on where you were going since the two of you practically communicated through little notes of the fridge or text now because of his job that required him to work from before you opened your eyes to long after you shut your eyes for the day. Sure you did miss him and the once lively home in New Orleans you once knew, but you accepted it was for the best and came to terms with that reality.
The next evening, after school, Miles came to pick you up. You rushed down the stairs as soon as you heard his recognizable 3 knocks on the door. You didn’t even spare time to look through the peephole which was a force of habit that always made him upset.
“Cariño (sweetheart), what’d I tell you about the door?” He huffed softly.
“I know, I know, sorry..but look at my outfit!”As you gestured to your attire, you were wearing your favorite black frilly button-up. Along with that, a white skirt lined with a pink bow at the end that stopped abruptly at the knee. You paired it with a pair of black heels and white stockings outlining your legs comfortably.
“Yes princesa, you look beautiful as always.” He chuckled lightly as he examined you head to toe, down to the pearl jewelry assorted carefully in your hair and throughout the outfit.
“You think your parents will like it?” You smiled up at him, letting him take your hand and walk you.
“They’ll love it.” He assured, wrapping an arm around your shoulder.
When you got to the door, you were practically shaking in your boots.
“Miles…I don’t know about this anymore. What if they don’t like me..?” You frown, your hand hovering above the cold door knob.
“They’ll love you baby, I’m sure of it.” He said softly, giving you one of his “everything’s gonna be alright” smiles.
“But what if-“
“Shh…I like you a lot, and if my parents can’t see that then I don’t care. You’re my girlfriend, not theirs.”
You took a deep breath, shook your head, put on your best smile and opened the door.
“Hi Mrs and Mr Morales!” You chirp.
“Oh hi! You must be y/n, correct?” She smiled widely.
“Yes ma’am!” You nodded, sitting down at the dining table, Miles following behind you.
“So..” Jeff mumble as they all sat down, a paper plate of pizza in front of you.
At first, dinner was so awkward. You weren’t the best at starting a conversation, so you all just sorta…stared at each other. A few uncomfortable giggles and silent glances around the room, but that’s all. Luckily, Mikes knew of your antisocial antics and decided to help out.
“Y/n’s really good at Spanish y’know?” He brought up, breaking the unbearable silence.
“Really?” Rio smiled, finally showing some interest in the conversation.
“Oh uhm..yeah! I have an A and sometimes help him with some of his homework!”
And for the rest of the night, it ran smoothly. The room filled with laughter and cute stories about Miles when he was younger, reminiscing over the past. Over the course of you and Miles’ relationship, you and Rio had gotten really close. From asking “When is she coming over again?” to baking and gossiping with each other, you were practically best friends. She even slipped up and called you her daughter time to time, which almost brought tears to your eyes from how endearing it was too you. In a way, you saw her as a mother figure.

DOSE AMSTRONG PALACE
Hi guys!
I am sharing the Dose Amstrong palace, a manor residence once located in the capital city of Argentina.
The palace is no longer with us, as it was demolished to build a multi-family edifice.
History: This house belonged to Dr. Carlos Dose's family and was located at the corner of Avenida Alvear and Ayacucho Street.
It was built by architects Jacques Dunant and Charles Paquín, the former also being the author of the Huetel estate, the Mercedes Cathedral, and the Carlos Malbrán Pavilion of the Bacteriological Institute of the City of Buenos Aires.
For more information on Dunant’s works, we recommend visiting the site of researcher Alejandro Machado: arquitectos-franceses-argentina.blogspot.com.ar.
The house, completed around 1890, was one of the first "grand residences" on Avenida Alvear. A magazine published in the 1920s described it as follows:
"One of the architectural beauties that adorn our city is the mansion of Mr. Alfredo Zemborain and his wife, Mrs. Justa Dose. It is a faithful small-scale replica of the Palace of Francis I, located a few kilometers from Paris. The interior design, of indisputable good taste, harmonizes with the construction of the house, as everything follows the French style. Furniture, paintings, silverware, bronzes, marble, and carved wood—all reveal art and wealth. The gardens provide a cheerful note, with their abundant trees, and the magnificence of the flowers gives the palace the beauty of every season."
However, the social magazines of the time, which did not specialize in architecture, were often full of inaccuracies, so they cannot be taken as a reliable source: the Dose family house was not a replica of a palace of Francis I, nor was everything about it French. The façades were inspired by the Louis XIII style, corresponding to the transition between the Renaissance and French Baroque, which, in one of its periods, is characterized by the combination and contrast of brick and stone on the façades.
For more history: find the spanish version here: https://miradaatenta.wordpress.com/2023/03/07/historia-de-la-avenida-alvear-el-palacio-dose/

Location: Buenos Aires, Argentina
Style: Louis XIII eclectic
Date: 19th century
This house fits a 40X30 lot.
I only decorated some of the important rooms. All the rest of the house is up to your taste to decor.
Hope you like it.

A bit of a hot take; I hope if Frida gets introduced properly with an official name, it will be something other than Frida?
(omg this rant became so long please read it tho i’m going insane)
I hope so because I feel like it would characterize her life (assumably) being raised by Big Mama a bit more, since her design tastes as we see through her hotel’s decor leans a lot towards old money art deco motifs combined with gothic architecture. I feel like Frida Kahlo’s primitivism and surrealism would be a bit out of character? Or at least a missed opportunity for some characterization.
(Okay maybe it’s not quite gothic but idc, let me speak-)
See here all the difference between Big Mama’s taste and Frida Kahlo’s paintings, I’m not saying she wouldn’t like her work, I just think that if Big Mama designs all her estates with such a clear creative vision & what seems to be her own personal tastes (*cough cough* old money ass fashion sense *cough cough*) I feel like she’d be more knowledgeable and/or more partial to a different area of the art world for Kahlo to be enough of her favorite to name her personal assistant/maybe I hope surrogate daughter after her?
I like to think if Big Mama named her after some artists she personally liked, I think she might lean more towards artists from the art deco scene like Tamara de Lempicka, or Sonia Delaunay.
Or maybe gothic architects could give her a name truer to the hidden city and battle nexus architecture that she’d’ve been surrounded by her whole life. All those gargoyles and sprawling jagged designs once you push past the illusion of Big Mama’s normal hotel front make such a dichotomy! Julia Morgan (the lady who designed California’s Hearst Castle which, “mixes Spanish Colonial, Gothic, Neo-Classical and Mediterranean Revival style all in one property.” I think that would be such a good combination of styles to reference with Big Mama’s choice on what to name this person omg) and Odile Decq are such pretty names!!
I love Odile Decq’s personal style and work on one particular building sm, the Phantom Restaurant of the Garnier Opera.
LIKE OMG THAT JUST SCREEAAAMMMS BIG MAMA, she would absolutely name a girl after the lady who’d design that and you cannot convince me otherwise. And Odile would fit in with “Michelangelo, Leonardo, Donatello and Raphael” so well omg. And look at this woman, look at her style, she NEEDS a ninja turtle named after her omg.
And finally, a bit controversial but I never really liked the name Frida in the first place?
Don’t get me wrong, her work is legendarily meaningful and skillful. It’s just that in recent years, she’s been packaged and sold as this “girlboss feminist icon” because of her suffering, and because of that, her image in pop culture has kind of been watered down to the point where it feels like if they were to name her Frida, i’d think like, all the thought that went into it would be, “okay she’s a girl, what girl painters do we know?” Which (although well intentioned-) kinda feels like reverting back to stereotyping her as “the girl one” even though that’s what they were trying to avoid by not naming her Venus? If that makes sense? So I’m glad her name isn’t concrete yet lol.
And OMG I WANT HER NAME TO BE ODILE SO BAD NOW YOU DONT EVEN KNOW💖✨💝‼️✨ I only found her work literally as I was typing this but I just love that building and how much Big Mama would absolutely love that building, she needs to be named Odile, look at her face, that’s an Odile face <3
Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, Raphael, and Odile, (and maybe Kirby? :D) i love itt

HEADCANON FOR DOFFY'S AND CROCODILE'S HOUSES: Doffy would 100% live in a Spanish revival or Spanish colonial estate. It would look traditional and classic (but not extremelly rustic) on the outside, whereas the interior is a bit more modern, with classical and traditional Spanish elements, but incorporating modern fornitures and decoration, so it looks a bit more contemporary and fashionable. He may include a few 17th/18th cent. and Italian Renaissance elemets to it too, since they look rich and posh and reminds him of home (I just kinda imagine Mary Geoise to have a late 17th and early 18th cent. Spanish & French fashion and style to it, with all the Italian influences that this entails, even if the Château de Chambord that inspired Mary Geoie is from the early 16th century). I imagine his house to look something similar to these ones, but with more vibrant colours to it (more black and red too):
Villa Hibisco
Casa San Bernardo
Solvilla Real Estate
Almiral de la Font (this one's more mixed Doffy & Crocodile coded)
Nagueles mansion (a little bit of a different style, but I kinda see it too)

For Crocodile, on the other side, I imagine a Spanish revival or colonial villa, or an Italian/Tuscan mansion, or just a broadly Mediterranean villa, but that looks traditional and a little bit rustic and rural, both in the outside and the inside. He looks classy and uses warm colours, so I think a luxurious and elegant but also rural and warm looking interior would work best for him. Doffy's house would be mostly white with black fornitures, but it would have some accents in red, and some vibrant and saturated blues and purples here and there (mostly around the pool area, maybe even some pink and green/yellow/orange) that contrast with the overall white and black scheme of the house. Crocodile would rather use overall warmer colours, beige, pale yellows, ashy browns and dark grey/black, deep dusty red and orangish, grey-ish blues and pruples, and dark greens, that combined with the use of wood everywhere would give a more rural and rustic vibe to it. Summing up, Doffy would have a traditional exterior (but not rustic looking) and a mixed interior, with more traditional and classic elements mixed with modern elements and some 17/18th cent. luxurious forniture and decoration, with a black and white plus deep red scheme, but accented with bright colours here and there; whereas Crocodile would go full traditional, rustic, and classic, both exterior and interior, with some modern and contemporary elements to it, but in a way that they completely blend with a traditional, rustic, but elegant look, and would use a more dark mutted colour palette to accent a dusty and ashy overlook (only exception a more vibrant brown classic leather armchairs). To give you an idea, this tik-tok is more or less (not exactly, obviously) what I imagine Crocodile's house interior to look like: https://www.tiktok.com/@lonefoxhome/video/7247217535681137962?_r=1&_t=8puFb1KlHpR
or maybe something like this:

#one piece#donquixote doflamingo#sir crocodile#headcanon#this is really for me#lol#i need to keep my ideas somewhere#neither of these houses fits them perfectly#but that's more or less what i want#i would go 100% rustic with Crocodile#but maybe it's just me projecting#love luxurious but rural looking mediterranean houses#they're so cute#elegant#classic#but also warm and homy#also doffy lives in Marbella for sure

Who Would Be King of England Today According to Henry VIII's Will? - chartmaker Matt Baker takes us through the royal family tree from Henry the Eighth to the present day, if his edict that the next monarch in the event that his three children (Mary, Edward, and Elizabeth) produced no heirs, then the crown should next fall to the children of his youngest sister. And not, as actually happened, go to James of Scotland.

Tudor Houses Explained in 10 Minutes - Not particularly engagingly presented, but a video chock full of visual examples of different kinds of Tudor houses and buildings.

Royal Armouries - Elizabethan Swordsmanship - a demonstration by weaponsmasters at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds. (I recommend turning on closed captioning for this one, as the sound was recorded live with no mics.)
Getting Dressed - Tudor Royal Household - a nice, even-paced and well produced video showing what it was like to get dressed in queen Katherine Parr's household.
Dressing Up a Tudor Man - my personal heroes at Prior Attire show us what the blokes were wearing at the time. Keep in mind that this is 40 years too early for Hob and Dream's disastrous Shakespeare-ruined feast. (I recommend turning on closed captioning for this one, as the sound was recorded live with no mics.)
And just for the fun of it:
Medieval Pickup Lines from the folks behind (I believe?) Whores of Yore, and Top Tudor Historian Rates Famous Movie Scenes, wherein Dr Nicola Tallis, British historian and author of three books on the Tudors, rates scenes from five blockbuster movies set in the Tudor period. (I love how scandalized she gets.)
If you want more, I really recommend anything at all featuring Doctors Lucy Worsley, Eleanor Janega, and Ruth Goodman (search their names on YouTube and you'll find a wealth of clips, full episodes, and even playlists.)

"The Oedipal Struggle of Dostoevsky Toward Gogol" (Piotr Axer) - My synthesis
Hello guys it's been a long time since i haven't posted so i'm back with this synthesis of an amazing work i just read !!
You guys probably don't know about it but i'm a huge fan of literature, especially English, Japanese and Russian (even if i don't know a lot about this latter one). And today i decided to do some research about Nikolai Gogol's life & works as i already ordered some of his books. While looking for one of his specific works (i was looking for a pdf english translation of 'Hans Küchelgarten') i found a dissertation by Piotr Axer about (in large) the influence Gogol's works had on Dostoyevski's works. As i'm reading 'Crime and punishment' and planning on reading some Gogol's novels (+ i'm a huge fan of fyolai) i decided to read it. To be honest it was quite long (around 220 pages) but really interesting and i did a quick synthesis of it but instead of keeping it for myself i chose to share it here so fyolai fans, literature fans and lazy people can learn stuff (the link of the original work is at the end of the post for those who wanna go deeper and read it).
Few informations about both of the authors :
Fyodor Dostoyevski : Russian author/novelist ; 11th november 1821 - 9th february 1881 ; naturalism, realism
Nikolai Gogol : Ukrainian (russian empire) author/novelist/poet/dramatist/literary critic ; 1st april 1809 - 4th march 1852 ; formalism, realism
Sythesis :
We can feel Gogol's influence on Dostoyevski's works in many ways, but the most noticable one is the references to Gogol's characters :
"His entire estate consisted of just an overcoat, like Akaki Akakievich" ('Petersburg Dreams in Verse and Prose') => Akaki being the main character of 'The Overcoat' (one if not the most famous of Gogol's novels)
"to keep asking about Garibaldi and about italian affairs, as Poprishchin did about Spanish matters … And thus there formed within him little by little the incontrovertible assurance that he was in fact Garibaldi, brigand and violator of the natural order of things" ('Petersburg Tales') => which is an actual reference to one of the titular characters of 'Diary of a Madman' (Nikolai Gogol) whom belives himself to be Garibaldi (political italian figure, 1807-1882).
In his early years of writting Dostoyevski can't evade Gogol's influence like a young man cannot escape his parents' influence and this even if their works aren't in the same style at all (Dostoyevski : more realistic, dark and mysterious / Gogol : more satiric, controversial and humour oriented).
On the other hand, Dostoyevski critized Gogol's religious opinions but he was mostly criticizing his morals and aesthetics. However, Dostoyevski explains his religious opinions and his understanding of the use of religion in literature through 'The village of Stepanchikovo'.
In conclusion we can say that Gogol's work had a huge impact on Dostoyevski works. By being an influence at the beginning of his career but also while the maturating process of Dostoyevski's works and artistic opinions as he was contesting Gogol's aesthetic, personality and religious ideas.
I hope this quick sythesis pleased you and that you learned things if you have any questions i would gladly answer them in the comments, xoxo <33

Sixteen Spanish nuns have announced they are breaking from the Catholic Church and instead placing themselves under the authority of Pablo de Rojas Sánchez-Franco, a self-styled bishop who was excommunicated in 2019.
The 16 Poor Clare sisters, part of the Franciscan Order of Saint Clare, were based in the dioceses of Burgos and Vitoria in northern Spain.
The schism comes against the backdrop of conservative anger over the leadership of Pope Francis. In February, 90 Catholic clergymen and scholars wrote a letter to "all Cardinals and Bishops of the Catholic Church," urging them to oppose a document approved by the pontiff that allowed priests to bless same-sex couples. Earlier this month, Francis angered many American conservatives by describing efforts to prevent migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexican border as "madness."
The 16 nuns, led by Sister Isabel of the Trinity, announced their break from Catholic authorities in a five-page open letter published on their convent's website.
In the letter, Sister Isabel said Catholics have had to endure "the silence of our pastors," who "left their sheep alone and helpless to face the wolves."
Referring to the papacy, she added: "From the Throne of Peter we have been receiving contradiction, confusion and doublespeak, ambiguity, lack of clear doctrine, which is all the more necessary in stormy times, to hold the rudder more firmly.
"During this time the sisters, each in her own style, way and rhythm, have been contemplating a question, a doubt about the one who steers the Barque of Peter, and his closest collaborators. A doubt which, in time, became SCANDAL."
Newsweek has contacted the press office of the Holy See for comment by email.
Sister Isabel also said the Vatican prevented the community from selling an empty monastery in Derio, the proceeds of which were intended to pay for a new monastery in Orduña. She said the decision was a bid to control "traditionally minded communities and keep their real estate to sell."
The sister said the group would instead put itself under the authority of Sánchez-Franco, whom she styled a "legitimate bishop of the Holy Catholic Church" despite his excommunication by the Vatican.
She added: "They are going to call us heretics and schismatics, crazy, and many more very disagreeable and calumnious things, but don't believe them; at least this once, don't let them fool you."
In an attached 70-page document titled "Catholic Manifesto," the group said it recognized "H.H. Pius XII as the last valid Supreme Pontiff," adding that "the see of St. Peter is vacant and usurped."
In a broadcast on Spanish radio station COPE, Archbishop Mario Iceta of Burgos, under whose jurisdiction the 16 nuns fell, said when he first heard they were leaving, he "thought it was fake news," the Catholic News Agency reported.
He said the schism "seems absolutely wrong," adding that the church must see "if it is possible to heal it, cure it, reverse it" through dialogue with the nuns.
According to the Catholic News Agency, the archbishop added: "I don't know if they realize the profound consequences that this step has and that is why my option or my opinion is that this should not be done precipitously, let this media tidal wave pass, let's see if it's possible to establish a relationship with them and dialogue and look at these issues and give them time to reconsider this situation that seems so surprising and strange to me."
