breaking the DC streak to go to Marvel because fun fact I've been into DC for six months and into Marvel comics for eight years so

anyway a majority of my spideypool bookmarks are from 2015 and I have no idea if most of them are any good which is an interesting problem to have but I still have a solid list for y'all

Say Anything...Except That - I was following this from the first chapter and I'm now mutuals with the author which was very fanboy moment for me (if you're seeing this, hi!). it has a lot of old school fanfiction.net quirks to it which might be a bit difficult to swallow if you've only been reading fic for a few years, but honestly I think this fic is really good and holds up to this day. it's been a while since I read it last but iirc Deadpool has to protect Spider-Man or Peter from assassination attempts and there's a lot of pining involved. also mattfoggy ended up having a nice arc because this was 2015 and Daredevil had just aired (this is technically incomplete there's one chapter left but if I had to reread it multiple times when there were only like ten chapters you can handle it)

under attack - more fics by people who are wayyy too cool to have followed me back and yet somehow did? anyway this is part of stackthedeck's team red slash series (ELITE ship fyi) but this one is spideypool focused and has some nice fluff. fighting as flirting idk what else to say it's golden

#NoPlaceLikeHome - do y'all know ask-spiderpool? you should it's one of the best blogs on this damn website and a must-read for spideypool shippers. anyway this is that version of spideypool's first time together which is cute :D short and sweet basically. sciderman has a lot of fics for the spiderman fandom in general and their ask-spiderpool au in particular and they're all worth reading

Dissonance - another longfic that took half a decade to write about deadpool protecting spider-man from harm. I actually don't know why this trope is so good peter really can defend himself but there you go

Perfect Enough - ohm y gOD this fic series is so good. this au hinges on such a tiny difference in peter's history but it makes ALL the difference. anyway in this world basically nobody has a functional secret identity anymore except for spider-man. meanwhile, wade wilson and peter parker start dating. so much plot, two separate longfics each around 140k, good luck this CONSUMED my life

speaking of consumed, rippling - this is part of a series called Into the Multiverse and is based on the Spiderverse film so it's Peter B. which I LOVE (spideybpool FUCKS). the series spun out of the authors' other series and it is, in fact, a pain to read the main entries in the series without reading the other serieses which means that I did spend two weeks doing little to nothing except reading deniigiq's work, but a. it was worth b. this one can be read as a standalone! wade jumps in front of a bullet for peter b and he angsts about it I love it

finally ahem speaking of Peter B, did you know I've been writing spideypool fic since 2015 and I wrote one specifically for spiderverse? I'm a mess (but I'm the mess that you wanted) is really a mix of spiderverse and comic canon like, five years into the future, and deals mostly with like, depression and suicidal ideation on Peter's behalf, but hey there's also a plot AND a happy polyam ending which, what else could you want really

AUgust Day 10 - Pirates

SpideyBpool from Marvel

Wade is a notorious pirate with some of the most cutthroat crewmembers a captain could ask for. He’s unpredictable and eternally greedy. There’s a constant bounty on his head, but few ever take the chance. Which is why, if Peter B. gets on the legendary ship Deadpool, nobody will ever come after him. All he’s gotta do is convince Wade he’s worth it.

The problem lies in the fact that Peter is chained up and scheduled to be sold at auction. Wade has busted slaves free before, but he’s skeptical when Peter waves him over. The information tag on Peter’s chest proclaimed him to be a well trained and well used pleasure slave far past his prime, which means his life will soon consist of being passed around from owner to owner until neglect or abuse kills him.

Wade’s happy to have additional crew members to replace those that died of scurvy, especially one with such a nice ass, but he’s not a fan of dead weight. Peter has likely never done hard labor in his life if the smooth skin and developing belly pooch are anything to go by.

“I have other skills,” Peter insists, but Wade isn’t about to cause an uproar by keeping a plaything all to himself. He says as much. Peter returns with, “Then I’ll service the whole ship.”

How could Wade pass up such a deal? Getting the whole crew excited about busting out and kidnapping an extremely pricy slave wasn’t much of an issue once they heard about the rewards in store. Two men were shot during the breakout, but it was nothing a little spit couldn’t cure. Everyone was in high spirits when they set sail with their prize.

Peter spent a lot of time tied up. “Just for the look o’ ya,” the crew said. He’d complained at first, so Wade produced silk ropes from somewhere secret, and Peter accepted. Sailors were good at knots, and now they had an excuse to get creative. Peter found himself suspended from various places, sometimes so high up the mast he could see the ocean waves for leagues. Once, they even tied him to the front of the ship when the waves were small and wind barely a breeze. Occasionally, he’d be immobilized and locked in a cushioned, dark chest “to keep him safe” as the rest of the crew fought against stormy waters.

It was clear to everyone that Peter enjoyed the rush of fear and uncertainty. He’d been trained to find unique sexual behaviors exciting, and the ship was the most adventure he’d had in his entire life. Some might call him crazy for getting overwhelmingly turned on when hanging upside down from the crow’s nest while getting his ass eaten, but the crew loved him for it, and that was all that mattered.

The rest of his days were spent getting fucked within an inch of his life. His jaw and ass had never been so sore. They liked to spank him, make him beg, and pass him around during dinner. Peter would be lying if he said he didn’t love the attention. That said, he still needed time to heal from the treatment his body suffered, though the crew was disinclined to allow such reprieves. That was when Wade stepped in.

Peter had used Wade for his own gain and hadn’t felt bad about that, assuming the captain to be as cruel and unforgiving as the rumors insisted. That wasn’t the case. When Peter was alone in the captain’s quarters, he was treated gently, reverently, and tended to with utmost care. At night, Wade would cuddle Peter close in his arms, and nothing had ever felt so safe.

These were Peter’s least favorite times on the ship. He didn’t know how to handle such intimacy. He didn’t trust the soft looks of affection that grew with each passing day. He understood sex, and he understood other people’s desire for sex, but whatever it was lurking in Wade’s eyes was a terrifying mystery. Peter was an old, washed up, out of shape sex slave servicing a ship full of pirates. The emotions in Wade’s eyes had to be some kind of trap.

It wasn’t until Tortuga that everything was laid out in the open. Peter ran into someone he recognized when he belonged to his old master, a guard named Matt who was apparently now a landowner in the new world. Matt had always been kind to the slaves and was surprised to see Peter still alive after being sent off to auction. Happy that Peter was okay, Matt offered a place in his household as a personal butler. Attending people was something Peter could do, and it would be the first normal job he’d ever have.

When Wade said he wouldn’t stop Peter with sorrowful and resigned eyes, it felt… strange. It wasn’t until the next day that he realized he’d wanted Wade to argue, to fight for Peter, to prove he really did care. But then, letting Peter go would earn Wade the wrath of his crew members, and it was clear he didn’t want to say goodbye. Wasn’t that proof in and of itself? Then again, Wade was just enamoured with a talented sex slave, right?

Peter left with Matt, determined to find out who he was under the years of pleasure training. That first month was hard but rewarding. He adjusted, slow but steady, to this new environment. Nobody in Matt’s household knew about Peter’s past and treated him with respect. At night, he had a bed all to himself.

It made no sense why he hated it, though he told no one, forcing a smile everywhere he went. Three months in, he was sneaking off whenever possible to find someone in the nearby cities to fuck him stupid. It was during one of these nights that he ran into one of Wade’s crew, and Peter’s heart just about leapt from his chest. The crew member cast a critical eye over Peter’s rumbled, fancy clothes and sex hair before saying, “Why’s it matter if ya enjoyed yer old job? Ya had no judgement on the ship. We all liked ya!”

What a stupid thing to think, that it was okay to enjoy lewd sex acts and be used by groups of people. Who would want that as their life? Who would see a future in that? Who would be willing to get on a boat and sail dangerous seas with dangerous men?

Yet, a week later, when Peter was attending matters for Matt’s household at the docks and people started screaming, he ran right into the fray. He saw the crew, stealing what wasn’t theirs to take, frightening the locals, and laughing as they did it. He saw Wade, standing above it all with a wicked grin.

He saw Wade when Wade saw him, and it was a look that pulled at Peter’s chest so hard it hurt.

The dread pirate ship Deadpool left the docks that day with an amazing haul and one love-struck idiot former pleasure slave who was finally ready to accept the unconventional life of his dreams.

do you have any favourite fics about Jewish characters? i’d love to hear your recs!!

Heya! Yeah I have a couple, although my fandoms in recent years haven't been overwhelmingly Jewish.

@deniigi has a really long series of fics called Into the Multiverse based sort of on the Spiderverse film, but it's very sprawling and you really need to read at least a few of the fics from their inimitable verse to understand what's going on in many of their fics. That said, there's one that mostly stands on its own called Parakeets, where Peter B Parker and Peter Parker (the blond one from Spiderverse) have a conversation that references they're Jewish. The fic is really about Jefferson trying to understand Miles' relationship with B better, but the Jewish moment is pretty significant to the fic.

If you're into Leverage, I have a minor Jewish!Hardison headcanon (especially in light of Leverage Redemption), and repairing the world is a fic that really explores that in detail.

I mentioned my Jewish!Crowley headcanon for Good Omens in the ask earlier today, but I don't think I've ever actually bookmarked any specific ones. Here's a Jewish!Good Omens fic collection from a discord server I used to be in, though.

There's also this nsfw spideytorch fic where Peter's Jewishness is revealed in a really funny way. His Jewishness doesn't matter to the plot at all but it is still very funny, and it's a good fic overall.

Finally, I'd like to rec a couple of my own fics. The first is a spideyBpool fic called I'm a mess (but I'm the mess that you wanted). It's really more about Peter overcoming his crippling self hatred and depression and the trauma of constantly being in contact with a living reminder of his greatest failure, but y'know, there's some Jewish content in there too, and we're only one chapter away from the happy (poly!) ending.

Also, just last night I posted a fic for the S & D Tier fandom - it's a TikTok improv comedy series, don't worry if you haven't heard of it, but it's pretty cute. The most recent arc made me want to write something short about the two of them getting married very Jewishly, and thus was born Doing It Right.

D: What’s the most personal fanfic you’ve written?

Probably my spideybpool fic, I'm a mess (but I'm the mess that you wanted). Shout out to the mental health fic and of three times for helping me process some shit, tho.

Z: Is there a story you’ve written that doesn’t seem to get much love?

I feel like every fic writer has a fic or eight they wish got more love. My number one for that is Under the Pink Hood, which has a true audience of two: me and @stackthedeck , but I still sort of hoped it would get more love than it has. I'm also one of two people to write a fic for valenpool, and yeah it's a short lil valentine's day fic, but I actually hoped that would be a point for it, not against it. Oh well, it's a fandom made up entirely of me right now, it is what it is. Finally, my before and after fic got actually a nice amount of attention, but its only multi chaptered sequel (that was actually conceived as one), the mental health fic, flopped so hard that I gave up on its second part (the therapy fic) entirely, and I'm still really sad about it. Actually that whole series has fics I'm really proud of that I feel deserve better, including this one, which is somehow the only fic I've written so far that focuses on dick & Tim (I'll write more eventually, I hope - I have a lot of feelings about those two)

Do you ever read a fic that makes you really sad but not in a “wow that story was heartbreaking” way but in a “wow this person hates the character I relate to on a personal level” way because that just happened to me and now I’m sad lol

The short answer is: oh yeah

Long answer is I've been reading fic since the era of character bashing. I feel like this has mostly gone out of fashion as a standardized thing that warrants a warning or a tag, but back in my Harry Potter fic days esp back on ff net you would be scrolling through your selected tag and a fic would be like, more preoccupied with shitting on a character you love (usually the canon love interest) than actually dealing with the ship you want to be reading. I have a pretty good theory as to why it was happening at the time - shipping and fic as a whole wasn't nearly as accepted, and so if you were to deviate from canon, ESPECIALLY if you were writing something that isn't heterosexual, you need to bash the canon love interest to "excuse" your non canon ship.

The place I personally still see this the most is in marvel comics fic for some reason? Although it no longer is limited to shitting on canon love interests, and often takes shots at other popular ships. Like I'll be reading a spideypool fic and they'll either be shitting on Cable as an abusive ex, or I'll be reading a spideydevil fic and Johnny Storm will be a clingy mess causing problems for both of them, and meanwhile mattfoggy fics will often bash Elektra or (in fic for the show specifically) Marci, etc etc. The difference is this will no longer get tagged as character bashing, because the practice has fallen out of popularity, which is unfortunate because you can't prepare yourself for it. I personally tagged my recent spideybpool tag warning that this fic wasn't nice about Harry Osborn because I wanted to use him as the Green Goblin for the dramatic twist, but I feel like I'm the exception for plotty fics nowadays.

The thing is while this is a perfectly sound explanation for some character bashing, I also have to admit that sometimes people just... Don't like a character and let that influence their work. There's historically a lot of sexism and racism in fandom, so that's often a factor, but also people have personal preferences and that's okay! The main problem is just that people no longer feel obligated to tag for it. They'll write a character as an abusive because that's their genuine reading of the text, but they won't think to warn audiences that that's the kind of content they're walking into. And the thing is except for bashing, we have high expectations of trigger and content warnings nowadays! Whereas on ff.net you'd click on a fic and essentially have no idea what you were going to end up reading, nowadays most ao3 fics will have extremely thorough content warnings in the tags and if they forget something the comments will literally tell the author to add that warning (I have no idea what wattpad is like don't ask or tell me). I wish that character bashing tags or at least freeform tags warning for a certain character being more villainous than in canon would come back into fashion, but unfortunately it's not and we just have to deal with it, which sucks.

Anyway, like I said above, in short: yep.

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?

I think just how much I was capable of writing when I didn't have anything else on my mind! Victoria Aveyard made a TikTok a few months ago (maybe even a year ago?) talking about how she was so lucky to have her parents essentially fund her first novel by letting her stay on their health insurance and stay home and write during the year after she finished college, and on the one hand that seemed so obvious, but on the other hand that's what it felt like I did during my two gap years between high school and uni, so I figured - well, I guess that didn't work for me. But I'm now done with college, and I wrote so fucking much this year while still working an almost full time job on minimum wage, something I am only capable of doing because my mother pays my rent. The fact is that while my income may be low, my stressors are almost nonexistent right now, my meds are balanced (which they decidedly were not during my gap years), and I'm finally living close to my friends, meaning that I have a healthy social life to enrich me in my enclosure. I'm not living a perfect life by any means, but suddenly I found myself with free time AND energy, two things that used to be mutually exclusive, and suddenly I was writing all the fucking time. I was just a well of ideas this year and I enjoyed every second of it. So, yeah, basically, the fact that I've published 97,357 words this year and have thousands more sitting in my drafts, when my previous longfic, sitting at 110k or so, took four and a half years? That was a bit of a surprise lmao

6. Favorite title you used

Oooh so either This is all just HR paperwork waiting to happen - I feel like it just really encapsulatated exactly the tone I was originally going for, even if angst did eventually sneak in - but I also really like Under The Pink Hood. I wish that fic got more love in general but it's such a niche idea nobody's looking for it :/

9. Favorite pairing you wrote for this year?

I'm obligated legally to say spideypool. Specifically spideybpool they're such an underrated version of the two. But also, and this is a throwback cause I was working on this in January before my comics brainrot set in, yennskier. Season two really fed us few who'd been shipping it since season one, and I still feel guilty for never finishing chapter 3 of the post s2 fic :/

28. Favorite work you wrote this year?

Honestly this is so hard to pick cause I'm genuinely so proud of almost all the word I did this year??? Like this has been maybe my best writing year so far and I was REALLY proud of the Leverage series I did last year. Starting AND finishing hang on 'til the chaos is through is a really big deal to me and I love that fic. But I think it's I'm a mess (but I'm the mess that you wanted). It's emotional and angsty and features so many of my favorite tropes and it's got polyamory and mental illness and spideybpool, have I mentioned spideybpool?? It was also my first attempt at writing actual plot in a very long time and I think it came out great, I've reread it a bunch.

Honestly most of the first few chapters of HR fic still makes me chuckle, but if you really want a healthy laugh there's not a single exchange in in which an entire university faculty becomes far too involved in Pankratz and Vengerberg's love life that isn't, at least in my humble opinion, fucking hilarious
