"Sam, I said I was sorry", [Y/N] said as she followed him through the door into their motel room. He didn't look back at her as he set his bag down on the bed and began to route through it. She sighed and closed the door behind her. "Sam?" She said as she walked over to him. She lifted her hand, hesitantly, before reaching up to place it on the back of his shoulder, but he immediately shrugged it off and continued to look through his bag. "The silent treatment? Really?"

He scoffed at her and pulled out a clean shirt and boxers, shaking his head and he closed the bag again. He turned to walk towards the bathroom but she grabbed his arm. He turned around and glared down at her, his nostrils flaring. "Do you have any idea how fucking stupid your little stunt back there was?"

"Yes, I do, that's why I said sorry".

"Oh okay, yeah, you said sorry, that makes it all better".

"I don't know what else you want me to say. I made a mistake Sam, it's not like you've never done that".

"That's not the issue and you know that! The issue is I don't know if I can trust you, [Y/N]. When I take you on hunts with me, I need to be able to trust you to use your fucking head and not step right in front of danger just because you have this need to be the one in control all the time. I told you to stay put and you didn't, you made your own wreckless decision and two vampires got away".

"I know! I fucked up, and anyone they hurt will be on me, I know that Sam, I don't need you to tell me!"

Sam sighed and turned away from her, running his hand down his face in frustration. "It's not just that, [Y/N]. You nearly got seriously hurt too, and it would've been on my watch".

"You're not responsible for me. I'm responsible for my own actions. If I get hurt, it's on my own watch".

"That's not how this works", he said, turning back around to her and pointing between the two of them. "We're supposed to work together, you're supposed to follow my orders when it gets dangerous".

"Okay, you need to back up a bit", she said, settling her hands on her hips and furrowing her brows at him. "I'm your girlfriend, not your soldier, I'm not 'supposed' to follow anyone's orders".

"Would it kill you to follow direction for once? Give up control for once?" He was breathing heavily, his fists clenched to keep himself still.

"And just let you control everything? Tell me where to go, what to do, what to say?"

"Yes". He stepped towards her and she instinctualy stepped back. "Just let me look after you, keep you safe".

"I don't need you to look after me, I need a partner".

"I am your partner". He took a few more steps towards her, and she backed up until the motel room's wall stopped her. "I've been hunting since I was a kid, you've been hunting for less than a year, don't you trust me to know what I'm doing?"

"I do, but-"

"But you want to be the one in charge all the time. I know, it's part of your personality. I bet you couldn't let someone else take control even if you wanted to". He was staring down at her now, forcing her to look up, her head against the wall and his hips only inches from her stomach.

"I bet I could".

Before she could comprehend what was happening, Sam's lips were on hers and she was being lifted up by her thighs and pressed into the wall. His tongue instantly forced its way into her mouth, not that she made any attempt to block it, and she reached up to grab his hair, causing him to groan into her mouth. He kept his grip tight on one thigh, digging his fingers into it, while his other slipped under her ass, squeezing it. He smirked against her lips as she moaned, trying to grind against him. He pulled back slightly to kiss her jawline up to her ear. "Stop moving, you're giving up control, you're only going to do what I say you can do", his low voice rumbled against the side of her face and she nodded enthusiastically. Sam wasn't exactly gentle or cautious in bed, but she'd never seen this side of him before, he'd never been this dominant with her, and she'd never been so turned on.

She wrapped her legs around his waist as he let go of her other thigh to hold her ass with both hands, hoisting her up and stepping away from the wall. He turned around and walked towards the bed, not letting his lips leave her neck as he did. She squeaked in surprise as he threw her down on the bed and ripped her flannel open, scattering buttons all across the room. As she stared up at him she could still see anger and frustration, and she thought for a moment that if she were a vampire or demon looking up at Sam Winchester right now, she'd be terrified. She wasn't scared at all as he leaned over to man-handle her arms out of the flannel and throw it across the room; she knew that even though this was about Sam being in control, one 'stop' from her and he'd be off her without a second thought.

He crawled on top of her, shoving his thigh between her legs as he pulled her bra down to pinch her nipples. He smirked as she gasped and grabbed his shoulders, desperate to hold onto something that would help ground her. He leaned down to kiss her, biting at her lips and groping at her breasts. Her hands moved up to grasp his hair again, pulling slightly and making him moan into her mouth. He leaned back and knelt, one knee still between her thighs, applying pressure in just the right spot. He stared down at her and trailed his fingers from her neck, down between her breasts, down her stomach, and stopping at the top of her jeans. He unbuttoned them and began to pull them down her legs, letting her wiggle her hips to help him, taking her panties with them. She lay there completely bare in front of a completely clothed Sam, but when she reached for his belt he grabbed her hands and chuckled, shaking his head.

"You don't get to touch me tonight. This is about me being in control, not you. This is about me taking what I want, and giving what I want. Roll over, stick your ass up for me and keep your head on the pillow". She looked up at him, slightly shocked by his demanding tone, and when she didn't answer, he raised his eyebrow at her. He pinched her thigh and she squealed before scrambling to turn over and do as he asked. She could feel how wet she was, she never thought she'd be so turned on by being submissive, but here she was. She felt Sam grab her ass cheeks and squeeze. She could tell that he was almost hesitant as he let go with one hand, and she was about to try and look around to see what he was doing when she was pushed forward slightly by a smack.

"Sam!" She gasped, and he smirked to himself, feeling relieved that her tone had obvious hints of pleasure in it, and he soothingly rubbed the place that his hand had just hit.

"Count".

"What?"

"Count for me. That was for this hunt, but you've acted wrecklessly on at least the last four too. Count".

"...one?"

"Good girl", he gently rubbed her ass again and she good feel herself blush. Sam didn't typically use pet names in bed, and when he did, it was usually something like 'baby', or 'sweetheart'. Hearing his deep voice call her a good girl for doing as he ask triggered something inside her, a need to please him again, to be praised by him again. She bit her lip in anticipation as his hand left her ass again, and this time when he smacked her she moaned.

"Two!"

"So good. You're being so, so good for me", he said as he lifted his hand again, this time smacking down a bit harder.

"Sam!" She shouted, grabbing the pillow beneath her in her fists.

"You having trouble counting?"

"No! Three, Sam, three!"

"There we go, just two more, can you do that?"

"Yes... yes, I'm ready", she nodded, tightening her grip on the pillow as Sam's hand slammed into her ass. "Fuck... four!"

"One more..." He said as he lifted his hand for the final time, looking down at the red mark he'd left and making a mental note to put some cream onto it later. He had to admit though, he liked seeing his handprint on her ass. He smacked her one last time, a bit lighter than the last one so as to not cause too much pain.

"Five", she breathed out, the stinging lessening as Sam rubbed gently circles on her.

"Thank you, [Y/N], you did so well", he said. She could hear his zipper going down, and she breathed in deeply in anticipation. She usually preferred to be able to see him when they had sex, to kiss him and look at him, but in this moment, she was finding it easier to be submissive while not looking at him. One of his hands slipped down under her, and his finger circled her clit, applying just a little bit of pressure. She moaned as his finger left her clit, trailing through her wetness until he dipped it inside of her. "Fuck, you're soaked", he groaned, slipping a second finger inside. He curled them and dragged up and down her walls, reaching his free hand under to pay more attention to her clit.

He continued to pump in and out of her while nipping, licking, and kissing at her neck and shoulder, his fingers taking turns between playing with her nipples and reaching down to play with her clit. "Yeah... about that", he smiled, leaning over to press his lips to her forehead quickly before sitting up and reaching down to pull his boxers and jeans back up. "I have some cream in my hunting bag, I haven't used it yet but it's supposed to help calm bruises and stuff, I'll put some on you, just stay on your stomach while I get it". Before he could get off the bed, she grabbed his wrist and he looked back down at her.

"I love you, Sam".

"I love you too [Y/N]", he smiled down at her, noticing how tired she looked as she struggled to keep her eyes open. "Let's take care of you, then get some sleep".

Dean finds himself hunting alone after his Dad sends him away with the Impala. It was bad enough when Sammy walked out the door, but now his own Dad has sent him away. But Dean’s a hunter, so that's what he's gonna do. A chance encounter with Cas, another hunter, evolves into a partnership and, perhaps, if Dean can just let go, something more. But Cas has a secret that threatens to tear them apart.

This one has great mythology, top tier monsters and so much delicious pining. Dothraki_shieldmaiden manages to incorporate so much delicious canon into this adjacent fic that you will be gnawing at the walls. Seriously buckle up. It's a great ride.

Look, Mallory has the unique ability to write versions of Dean and Cas that crawl into your brain and set up residence, but these particular ones are just *chef's kiss* perfection. Deeply unwell over each other, off-putting and sometimes objectively terrible and yet I love them to my bones.

Set in the 1920s against the backdrop of the golden age of boxing, Dean is a light heavyweight champion looking to make his name in the heavyweights. But the reappearance of his secret ex, Cas, threatens everything. Cas left town under the cloud of a scandal. Left DEAN. And now he's back to try and restore his name.

The pining. The push and pull. There were times where I thought a happy ending was impossible but she did it. She really really did. There’s horny sparring. There are suits and fancy prohibition Era parties. There are VIBES. Seriously this one is just so freaking good.

Time travel love stories are tricky and sometimes they hit for me (as you can probably guess from my name) while sometimes the don't. This one was an absolute homerun. Dean and Cas are both so deeply lonely and there is this sense of desperate intensity that is woven through the story that will male you feral.

Dean's working to try to put together the cracked pieces of his life after the one two punch of losing his dad and his business. But he's off to a rocky start when he learns that the prior owner of his new house died suddenly.

Even stranger, a shimmering light appears in his living room and suddenly he finds himself face to face with the guy, somehow having traveled to the past. In stolen moments, they discover that maybe happiness isn't as elusive as it felt. But the time is ticking. Can Dean save Cas from his fate, and if so, what will happen to them?

Dean Winchester and the Stolen Tupperware by MalMuses @malmuses (Explicit, 35k)

It's been a hot minute since this one came out and you may have already heard about it as a result, but this fic is just a fluffy, pure delight.

Cas is a single, nerdy professor whose idea of a wild Saturday night is watching dashing Dean Winchester, a real life Indiana Jones type adventurer archeologist, on YouTube. Dean is looking for some stability and just hoping to find a place to establish a career that doesn't involve constantly traveling. Sparks and awkward cuteness fly when they meet.

This one is perfect for a low angst love story. Also, Dean and Cas will make you deeply fond (and Meg in this fic can step on me).

Night at the Impala Theater by Speary @spearywritesstuff (Explicit, 52k)

It's difficult to explain what is so great about this fic without revealing more than I want to about the plot because there are some delightful and twisty bits. Suffice to say, it's a fun ride not just because of Dean and Cas, but the really fun side characters (Especially Rowena, my beloved, who is amazing and witchy).

The story revolves around Dean, a lonely guy running the family business - a historic movie theater he inherited from his Dad. But his life is changed when he finds a mysterious film series on his doorstep. The film noir flick follows a smoldering PI named Castiel. For some reason Dean can't get enough of the movies. And yet, all attempts to track down any information about the series is frustratingly bare. Where will his obsession lead? Not telling. Go read it. :)

This fun little one-shot smutty yet emotional fic explores a world where Demon Dean summons Cas after years of separation and they hook up while both lying about the depth of their feelings. It's a magnificent blend of angst, softness and need that ends on a deeply satisfying and surprisingly hopeful note.

Scorched Earth by AmberXBoone @amberxboone (Explicit, 155k)

Distraught over confirmation that his father intentionally started the fire that killed Mary Winchester (and nearly Dean and Sam), and then used his position as a police officer in a corrupt system to cover it up, Dean decides to give John a taste of justice by burning him in his home. He's a murderer and he fully expects to pay. But a chance meeting with burnt out DA Castiel Novak changes both of their loves forever and suddenly they have something to fight for. Can they take down the corrupt system or will Dean be locked away?

The plot of this fic alone is a ride. But what really brings this one home is the impeccable use of canon characters. I love these versions of them all so much. And it's truly a delight to see everyone join together to fight the corruption and save Dean (whether he deserves it or not cause he definitely doesn't think he deserves to be saved). The fic is also broken up into short chapters which makes it super readable if you are the type who picks things up for one scene and then puts it back down (could never be me I binged it like i was on fire myself but I admire it).

The premise is dark, but it's the light moments that make this fic really shine.

I love this story. I love the pack dynamics and how they all are despite Dean being the Pack Alpha. I love that they even have an extended pack as well (Claire, for example). I love that the reader has to learn the world and shows a very real world freak out over the information as well as how the pack dynamic and tactics work with and without Dean and Sam. I love how gentle and human Dean and the Reader are together. It’s a very relatable story with new relationships. I related to the Reader’s self-view very, very much. I’m gonna start including pack dynamics in my own a/b/o fics. I love that idea, so so much. Evolution is slow to change, so even if a/b/o was an evolutionary change, it doesn’t mean that all aspects would change with modern day society. Please check the story out and the author. Thanks!

This is such an amazing story! Castiel instantly connects with Dean who falls asleep on him while on the bus and Cas being Cas decides to take him home and keep him. Doesnt take long for Dean to agree. It’s an amazing, challenging love story from there that encompasses family, children, health and home, and the challenges of in-laws for their personal and religious views. It’s beautiful and terrifying, and worth the tears.

You have to read this is such a fluffy story. It’s like so heart warming, chest squeezing, heart racing and so angsty. I love it. It’s so fluffy that it’s schmoopy. Happy New Years Beloveds <3333

This was my first full year in the spn fandom. Most of the fics I read were fandom classics, so they're damn near impossible to rank, but for psychological damage alone, I've gotta go with 91 Whiskey by komodobits as my top pick. The grip this one had on me, besties. It's so deeply rooted in the viscera of the war and experience of the body.

And This Your Living Kiss by opal_bullets.  Dean is a middle aged mechanic and secret poet who goes back to school to help his mental health. He ends up in class with Professor Novak, who's the foremost scholar of Dean's poetry. A classic for a reason <3 This one is so lovely and the poetry is gorgeous. Really a triumph. There's a recording of it on spotify too which is beautifully narrated. 

Spirit of the West by @urne-buriall. Read this one while working at my aunt's ranch and it Changed Me. So hard to put words to this one. Such a lovely study on Dean's relationship with himself and his sexuality, the violence of his upbringing, and the space that meeting Cas opens in his life. Immaculate, immersive vibes. Have it in hardback. 10/10.

Where Black Stars Rise. @urne-buriall stays winning!!!! It's a haunted slot canyon! Cas wears hiking shorts! What more could you want? Seriously though, the environment of this fic continues to occupy me. Stunning.

Under The Midnight Sun by Northernsparrow

Dean is a camp director for a research facility in Alaska, Cas is, seemingly, doing something scientific with the local birds. This one is so lovely and immersive in its worldbuilding, and I'm haunted by the endnote that says that the author first thought of the idea for the fic 15 years before it was finished, during a stay in Alaska. Just exceptional. 

Clean Slate by @demora00 . Dean comes back from Hell without scars or tattoos. An immaculate study in identity and dysmorphia. 

AITA for disapproving of my brother's high sex drive? By birdsofthesoul and PlaidIsTheBestPattern. Sam finds out that Dean is bisexual and spins out about having accidentally sex-shamed and micro-aggressed him for years. On reddit. A fucking DELIGHT.

I've just finished this amazing compilation of fanfiction, organised into a complete 16th season of supernatural.

And holy shit is it good! A bunch of amazingly talented authors and artists came together to create a season complete with overall story arc themes and interesting monster of the week episodes.

The season is set between 15.19 and 15.20. After the boys defeated Chuck. It's brother centric and has all the codependency and broments and angsting for each other my heart could wish for.

They tie up a few loose ends from 15 seasons of supernatural that didn't get the attention they deserved in canon. You can see how the authors sat together to create a game plan. All the stories fit together seamlessly.

If you haven't done so already, I can only recommend you go read it!

Well, it looks like the brainrot is permanent and there is no cure. I can't seem to get enough of these dudes. Please enjoy the fruits of my unending obsession with another rec list.

Love Bites by @malmuses (Explicit, 34k)

I don't know why I love a tiny creature Dean, but this fic had my entire heart from the first chapter. Not since OctopusDean said bloop has a Dean been this adorable. 

Dean, a vampire in bat form, gets injured by Cas' menace of a cat (affectionate). Cas nurses him back to health and, as Dean heals, he finds himself more and more enamored with his savior. 

Cas is delightfully awkward and Dean is entirely smitten and it makes for an adorably soft dynamic. Plus I want to put bat!Dean in my pocket. He’s so cute.

Boyfriend of Thursday by mnwood @deancasheadcanons (Explicit, 40k)

Look all I'm saying is Dean deserved to be a little slutty (affectionate). This one is a romp and a delight. Dean Winchester doesn't do monogamy or commitment. Instead he has a regular hook-up every day of the week.

But when he and his Thursday call it quits, he's looking to fill the open position. It feels like he's in luck when he runs into a hot dude at Chipotle. But Dean discovers that maybe his Boyfriend of Thursday is worth breaking the rules for.

I love an openly bi, confident Dean and this Dean definitely fits the bill. This Dean is really fun and in some ways very vulnerable and he is deeply respectful of his hookups which makes it a great read. This one could have gone the other way, making him shallow and capricious, but despite his rules and his rigid system, Dean deeply cares and that makes it really fun to read.

The side characters are fantastic, plus there is positive representation of polyamory and some really interesting casting that makes this one super entertaining.

Passing Ships by quiettewandering (Mature, 78k)

Something about Dean and Cas going against fate to be with one another has always made me a little feral, so it's no surprise that a fic based on the concept that Cas, a cupid assigned to get Dean together with his soulmate Lisa, fails spectacularly when he falls in love with Dean himself would immediately draw me in.

The Cas in this fic wants so badly to do what's right, but he can't help but care about the humans. He hits all the right notes for me and i had at least ten breakdowns over him. And Dean is also just so enamored and such a disaster and you just wanna smoosh their faces.

I Can See Your Halo by redamber79 @imbiowaresbitch (series, 2 works, Explicit, 9.8k words)

This one is s-p-i-c-y and just a bit sacrilegious in the best way. Um, let's just say the author explores some novel uses for the angel blade and Cas' halo that will live inside my brain rent free for a very long time. Ahem

It also serves as a fairly delightful fix-it with a really fun resolution that will also have a condo in my mind. 

It's scorching hot and a really fun read.

In It For The Long Haul by @ltleflrt (Explicit 25k) 

This is the fluffiest, softest fic to soothe what ails you. Dean, a long-haul trucker, meets an intriguing waiter at a truck stop and starts reordering his life to find ways to see him again.

This fic is just pure sunshine. Cas keeps choosing meals to make Dean happy. Dean keeps blushing and flirting. The angst is low. It's really just a good time for everyone. A soft story about liminal spaces and finding someone to share your life with. 

Racing Stripes by tiamatv (Mature, 37k)

I'm admittedly a sucker for a sci fi AU, but even if I wasn't I would still love this absolute gem of a story. Dean is one of the top racers in the world, finally about to live out his dream of racing in the difficult and high stakes Chicago Race. Unfortunately for him, revisiting Chicago also sets him on a crash course with the love of his life, Cas, who left him years ago for the promise of an education and a future, and even worse, Cas' dad who is dangling the same for Sammy in front of Dean’s nose. 

The worldbuilding in this fic is immaculate. An abandoned and rotting Chicago is almost it's own character, and there is a quiet desperation in the story of people who have become beholden to corporations to survive. The action sequences are also gorgeous with the pivotal race being so cinematic I felt like I could see every twist and turn. And don't get me started on the gorgeous weaving of canon into the fic. It was so clever. 

But the standout for me is the gentleness in Dean’s characterization. The way he wants so badly to do what's best. The way he longs for Cas. There is just something gorgeous about Racing Stripes Dean that made me want everything good for him.

Thee Dean and Mary parallel dissertation, this character study has everything. Mary trying to conform to cisheteronormative ideals while feeling the pull of hunting and a particular redheaded angel. Teenage and Stanford Era Dean to tear your heart out. Dean and Mary finding something of each other. And a happy ending for Dean and Cas.

It's told in snippets. Vignettes that delve into trauma and hope. They build an absolutely beautiful parallel story, gorgeous for their intersections and the places they diverge.

And there is a gentleness to it all. We see Mary and Dean in various states of distress and desperation. We see the effects of the cupids bow and poverty and loneliness and completely fuckery. But there is never any judgment, just kindness in the way they are written.

This one made me cry real human tears and it's definitely one that will haunt me.

A Judicious Application of Free Will by Annie D (scaramouche) @no-gorms (Explicit, 57k) 

This is an older fic, but I swear Annie D has such a good grasp on Dean and Cas (or is possibly psychic) that there are elements that will make you swear it was written post canon. This one is hard to describe because it ends up with some gorgeous narrative twists that I don't want to give away. Suffice to say: Dean meets a handsome recluse, Cas, whose past threatens to engulf them.

It's twisty and ambitious, with so much heart. Canon is woven in to the story in unexpected ways and it's ultimately one of those fics that you don't want to put down.

I love this fic. I have read this thing so many times. I love the intimacy and how they develop organically. How Cas just takes why Dean gives and it’s how it should be in my head. It’s sweet and fluffy. I wish Dean would stop calling Cas “pal” as if he’s fucking Mickey Mouse and Pluto but it’s amazing. I return to it a lot. It’s a comforting story that deals with mental health and I’m glad it’s set in heaven.

I absolutely love this fic because I actually sleep with a weighted blanket and when my kids are sick, they love their own. I even have one in the car. It’s light but enough to feel it. This is just so fluffy and romantic all thanks to our favorite redhead introducing weighted blankets which helps so much. It’s been shown to even help babies but blankets aren’t great for them. Anyway, they’re so cute and that scene where Dean opens his eyes all slow and gentle with “hey”, just broke me. My husband and I do that periodically and it just means more snuggles and sleep. lol. Poor Castiel thinking he couldn’t have Dean which I understand since Dean has said so much he is straight or implied it rather often. Ugh. This was done so well. Thank you both!

It's such a visceral and extremely well-written story, dark and full of intense angst but at the same time it highlights that profound tenderness and affection between Sam and Dean. The whole "there is no me if there is no you". I was on the edge of my seat all the way through, my heart breaking for the brothers in such a delightful way. This fic is a great rollercoaster ride, like a dark porn with a substantial amount of well-thought-out plot. Heed the tags though... Your feels might not come out intact.

Sam/Cas/Jimmy is a threesome I've never read before, I don't think, and I'm loving it. So far, all of these stories are filled with plenty of fluff, and the perfect way to end my day. Here are my Top 13 Destiel Traxx AKA Fic Recs:

And This, Your Living Kiss (M) is a GODSEND I've read this more times than I can count, I even have NerdyNerdenstein's podfic of it saved on my phone, it is that good. It stars poet! Dean relearning his love for the arts and Literature professor! Castiel, whose favorite author just so happens to be Jack Allen (AKA Dean). I also love love loved the family dynamics here, it's all so homey and cozy. The poetry in this is stunning too. Highly recommend this one!

A Thousand Lies (E) follows con artist! Dean on his latest assignment of unraveling rich businessman! Crowley's secrets by playing as his secretary, all the while juggling dates with accountant! Castiel. Except there's more to them than meets the eye, and the plot gets thicker and thicker until you find yourself stuck to your phone for more than 4 hours, hopping from one chapter to the next. Yes that's exactly what happened to me lmao I was hooked, and stories like these where the angel fam are humans are always so fun. I love spotting the parallels and whatnot.

(goldenraeofsun, author of the previous fic, has a ton of fics I highly recommend so if you vibe with their style, go check out their account! I was torn about what to put here between "The Original Apple Pie Latte", "Not the Fire, but the Spark" and this—also I'm pretty sure I have half of their works bookmarked by now 😭)

Forget-Me-Not Blues (E) has all the correct vibes of a classic early 2000s romcom. It's set in Sam and Jessica's wedding, with Dean as the former's best man and Castiel as the latter's. Oh, and did I mention they have history? A particularly roughly-broken high school love story? That they absolutely refuse to acknowledge so now the wedding prep is so full of tension it's choking everybody? Yeah... This is a good one.

An Exercise In 'Worthless' (M) is one of the first destiel fics I've ever read. At that point, I was only on S2 or S3 and had no idea what was happening or who most of the other cast was, but the vibes were immaculate and reading it again as I progressed through the show, it just kept getting better. It's got tattoo artist! Dean whose shop is set up beside Gabriel's cafe (it's called the Physical Graffitea heh). It's got grad student! Castiel attending the same uni as Sam for a niche course in dialects. It's got Dean thinking Cas is more interested than Sam (missing the heart eyes Sam and Gabe are giving each other). It's got family feels!!!!!! as these four idiots live normal, non-supernatural lives!!!!!!!

Kissing Strangers (T/E) is a happy(!!!!!) queer awakening story, wherein Castiel realizes he's not as straight as he thought when he gets kissed by Dean for a social experiment. There's actually three fics in the series, the first one covers The Kiss while the next two are insights on the progress of destiel's relationship. It's really neat, and the author—sharkfish—has a lot of fics I've been reading this past week. (They have a lot of good ace! dean and/or ace! cas fics!!!!!!!!!!)

In Due Time (Dean Winchester is Saved) (T) is not only touching as hell but also mind-blowing. 26-year-old Dean is zapped to the future by an unknown power, and what does he see? Himself, happily settled; married to an angel of the frickin' lord with a son; and his brother, still hunting. THIS FIC IS AN ABSOLUTE GEM!!!! Baby Dean interacting with Cas means So Much to me.

Broadway Musical (T) is, in my humble opinion, an absolute banger and a classic. It's got the fun, lighthearted tone of a romcom and my favorite trope of "they may all be dicks but at least there's no murder" with the angel family. It's a reimagining of the first ever Armageddon: what if, instead of being the Righteous Man himself, Dean was chosen to father the two brothers of old with Jo Harvelle, with the entire Host of angels excitedly chattering about it in heaven. Except the cupid's arrow doesn't sink in, to either Dean or Jo, and they don't fall in love. So good ol' Cas comes down to take matters into his own (awkward) hands.

Sand and Salt (E) continues off of S9 fallen angel! Castiel. The timeline is important to me for two reasons, namely: Kevin and Charlie. Destiel are highlighted at the second half but the first is just Sam, Dean, Kevin, and Charlie helping Cas settle in as a human. They go to a mall to shop and eat and bond and they are so, so precious to me.

Carnival Oasis (E) is a series as well, but it's honestly SO worth it. We have creature! Castiel who eats sin and extremely guilty! Dean who first confessed his sins to Cas as a way to gauge what the fuck he is. But then he kept coming back. They get all gooey and shit here, as they should be. Plus the reveal on Cas' background??? It made me go insane I swear.

Convenient Husbands (E) is honestly just. So good. I've reread it multiple times over the past few weeks and it never gets tiring. This one's about hunter! Dean and Garuda! Castiel forming a marriage bond... Purely for convenience, of course. I'm also obsessed with the set-up of the hunting community in this AU, they got a whole network and base and it's awesome you should definitely read it. (Annie D also has a lot of fics on AO3 that you should check out—I'm very partial to "It's Always the End of the World Somewhere"!!)

This Witch!Cas AU series is based off of probably my most favorite story prompts to ever trend in Tumblr history: it's about witch! Cas who's moved to town after his grandmother's passing. Madame Novak's will is all that everyone's talking about, as it states that Castiel needs to marry to not only inherit the estate but also to keep his magick. Gardener and shopkeeper! Dean finds this tasteless, what with everyone treating Cas like he's just some prize and not, y'know, a person. Then, Castiel makes an announcement: he ties the key to the estate to his cat's collar, and whoever gets the key may take his hand as well. Everyone scrambles to chase after the surprisingly smart feline... except for Dean, who's slowly warming up to the little guy, and the cat to him in return.

it's brighter now (G/T) is actually a series but!!! It's a babyjackverse like come on, how can you resist that? This speaks for itself and it says all you will ever need in a fic, which is BABY JACK!!!!!!!!!!

conversations between brother & sister (T) is, simply put, criminally short but perfectly encapsulated my ideal ending for Supernatural. It's two fics; the first is about Jack and Emma, and the second is about Jack and Claire. The reason this is here is because I am a firm believer that this deserves more recognition and love and we need more AUs like this. Destiel are so, so tender and sweet but the main focus is, of course, Jack's conflicting feelings. I would leave a hundred thousand kudos on this if I could.

Ahhh I was also reluctant to read ATYlK at first because I don't like AUs in general but I am so glad some people on here cinvinced me to give it a chance because oh boy it's a fucking masterpiece!!! I loved everything about it but what stood out to me is how masterfully the enviroment was presented. I feel like this is something that gets glossed over in fanfics usually but this fic man! Made me feel like I was at the campus with Dean and then that I was in his poetry class!! Legit made me want to go back to academia, I am not exaggerating at all 😅 And the reveal scene!!!!! I was feeling all the emotions reading it!

The Most Important Thing by NorthernSparrow

Northern Sparrow is another big name in the fandom and I think there are probably fics by then that are more popular than this one but this was the first foc of theirs I read and it just stuck with me because of it's wonderful premise -Jimmy is raising his teenage daughter except something's not right. This has a lot of Claire which I enjoyed because imo Claire is a Hamlet caliber of character on SPN who is constantly being underexplored so this was nice. Though there is plenty of Destiel n this too and their relationship does become pivotal towards the end.
