Lena joins the team first, and Kara just spectates until the existing goalie has to quit for some reason, which basically stalls the team until Kara volunteers to fill in.

But I'm having trouble reconciling the whole super-speed/-reflexes thing. Like, using her abilities would kinda be cheating. Maybe it becomes an exercise in Kara learning to control them better? Or would she have Lena make a red sun necklace or something to dull her powers?

Which could have the added benefit of dulling her other supersenses, so that she doesn't feel compelled to leave a game the moment she hears some emergency off in the distance. Which she may also use in the rest of her life as well. Especially as she learns to trust that others have taken up the mantle and it's no longer her responsibility alone....

Idk what do you all think?

i'm quite amused at how much y'all are into avatrice in the Olympics - i get it tho, was watching a bunch of different sports today and half the time i was like, how could i make this avatrice hmm lol (also during judo, my friend was like, "this is just a fic waiting to happen" lolol)

[eta: i was gonna try to hit two prompts at once but this first one became a little ficlet - volleyball will be in a separate post!]

first, for climbing @daskum - my brain first had them both competing in climbing but for different teams but -and i have no idea how this stuff works so i might be spouting shit - but what if they're all on the same team with the rest of the gang but ohno Shannon gets injured and Ava, an alternate, has to come in. no one knows what to expect when she steps up and maybe there's some kind of idk hint of nerves that makes folks think she's not gonna do well and the commentary's not exactly disparaging but Ava knows it - she can't hear it but she knows, she feels it.

then she looks over at her team, all of them giving her various looks and gestures of determination and belief, and when she gets to Beatrice, she expects something similar, something serious. doesn't expect a smile.

then Ava remembers: herself as a child, dreaming (from her bed, unable to move, unable to feel); herself as a teen, disbelieving (as she moves one finger, two, then eventually, painfully, victoriously wraps all five around a handhold for the first time); herself, here, now, feeling - everything.

she smiles back. sets her shoulders and thinks, 'let's fucking do this.' grins and aims for gold.
