ok scum villain first impressions
i finally got time to read it so here’s everything about where i’m up to
i keep looking at the front cover and thinking “shi qingxuan???” (green with some blue flowing outfit, long hair, FAN, like what??) so uhhh if he’s anything like SQX (probably not) new favourite character?
i completely understand shen yuan i hate read komi can’t communicate (i really liked it at first then it just turned into 300 chapters of awkward almost romance and i read the whole thing because i needed to know what happened but it didn’t get any better and wasn’t even done so i gave up on it)
i already hate this author too i hate the username especially like are you a high school boy
luo binghe seems like a slightly socially smarter quan yizhen i’m sorry but he does (wait it said LBH was abandoned and so was quan yizhen are they related??? is LBH QYZs older brother??/hj) anyway my autism senses are tingling but i’m not making any
the weird guy who was there when shen qingqiu woke up seems weird idk if i like him. if he turns out to be evil i 100% called it if he’s not evil i never suspected him
the other disciplines seems kinda cruel why are they bullying LBH for having a necklace?
@makedonsgriva i finally started reading sorry for not starting when i said

1, 11, 14, 16, 17, 19 for the behind the scenes of fic asks! ((this is hualianisms, i can't send asks from my sideblog🥲))
Hello @hualianisms!! Thank you for the asks (๑>◡<๑)
What was the first fandom and/or pairing that you wrote fic for?
(/。\)...am I going to embarrass myself on main today because the first fic that I published on ao3 was for the ReoNagi pairing from Blue Lock, but I technically wrote fic for Inazuma Eleven when I was a wee little child. What was yours?
If you could only write angst, fluff, or smut for the rest of your life, which would it be?
Definitely angst, it comes easier to me than fluff or smut 〜(><)〜
If you were stuck on an island with only two characters, who would you pick?
Only two? That's a hard choice >_< Shi Qingxuan (TGCF) and Yu Shisan (A Journey to Love), probably. SQX can just whisk us away~
What is your most underrated fic?
I'll take underrated to mean not doing as well as I thought it would since I really liked this? It's a toss up between one of my Link Click fics (Qiao Ling centric, S2 canon compliant) and one of my earlier Mysterious Lotus Casebook fics (Gen, LXY/LLH centric). I really enjoyed the process of exploring what went on in Season 2 of Link Click through Qiao Ling's eyes, and thought that there weren't enough fics featuring her, which is why it's a fic that's really dear to me. As for the Li Xiangyi centric fic (i must admit that imagining pre-canon stuff is a favourite of mine), I wanted to explore the process of Li Xiangyi becoming Li Lianhua, and how he had changed so much over ten years. It was fun to imagine him traversing the jianghu and picking up various skills along the way! But I do understand that Genfics aren't for everyone, so it's okay. I do have more recent ones that aren't doing that well but I have...complicated feelings regarding those
What fic are you most proud of?
(I also cannot simply choose one, my bad).
I have this ShiGuang fic that was loosely inspired by a manhwa called "The tale of the Yellow dragon", that was nearly complete by the time the S2 finale came out and I figured, why not throw Lu Guang's lines in there? and it fit, so I was really happy with how it turned out :D Another fic that I'm proud of is Tales of Tianji Manor, mainly because I wasn't sure that people would enjoy a fic told from Madam He's pov, but the fandom was so nice about it ^^ and it was fun to explore the OT3 dynamics from her pov!! and (last one, I promise!!) I was really happy with how the ZhanHua fic turned out :D Zhan Yunfei was one of my favourite side characters, and explore his ten years of yearning and devotion was interesting.
Who is the easiest/hardest character for you to write about? Why?
I'd say the hardest is Di Feisheng's (MLC) pov for me, I'm not sure if it's writers block or burnout, but trying to wrangle his character has been a challenge lately. Another would be Ning Yuanzhou (A Journey to Love), because the man thinks so damn much, and he has to be a leader, a lover, a father and a brother all at the same time. Oh and Yi Zhi Hua's (White Cat Legend) tone is quite tricky for me to grasp...
easiest would probably be what I call the "simp characters" (not that I'm calling them one-dimensional, it's just that they have Prioritised that One Special Person): Fang Duobing for one, he has a rather straightforward personality, he places his family and Li Lianhua first, and he's honest about his feelings. Qiu Qingzhi is another. (it's harder to see beneath his layers but) imo his motivations were mainly to protect Li Bing. and I just really like to write Yu Shisan, the man loves so deeply and freely.

Also as much as I love SQX with my whole heart, Xie Lian is ultimately my favourite character, and I love him the most. I missed his very human outtake on stuff, and his slightly cynical inner narration. I don’t normally laugh at jokes in TV shows but when he heard the Three Tumours were generally disliked and thought ‘well why isn’t it Xie Lian, Xie Lian, Xie Lian’ I literally cackled.
I’m enjoying season 2 so much! I love how all the characters interact, and I was surprisingly taken by Lang Qianqiu, someone I wasn’t too fussed about before (I didn’t even recognise him at first btw, I didn’t expect his character design to look so skinny haha). Anyway, super excited in general, I want to write some analysis about how both the books and TV show ‘humanise’ demons and other stuff.
Also, as always from an artistic standpoint, the character designs of even minor background characters are great, the background art is great, the opening and ending sequence artstyles are great and the music is spectacular! I’m so greatful we received this masterpiece, after the arrest of Jiang Guangtao I was convinced that season 2 would never see the light of day. But here we are, and I can’t help but be so happy and excited!

Beefleaf: SQX is targeted by a demon who prays on fear and suffering as a child, which is intending to drive him to suicide and suffering. Having no other choice, SQX's brother SWD uses a ancient technique to switch SQX's fate with another person with the same name and birthdate. <-That's He Xuan. Using HX's fate, SQX(unknowing)'s life gets better and better, and eventually ascends to godhood with SWD. On the other hand, HX, with SQX's fate, is now the target of the demon and his life gets worse and worse. His family dies one by one gruesomely, and HX finally snaps, killing everybody who wronged him before dying from exhaustion. As he lays dying, he sees SWD standing over his body. Filled with resentment, he returns to life as a ghost, intent on finding out the reason for his suffering. He devours the demon who tormented him, and rises to become one of the four most powerful ghosts, earning the moniker "Black Water Sinking Ships".After realising what SWD did, he swears vengeance. He kidnaps and takes the place of another newly ascended god, Ming Yi. HX, now MY, befriends SQX in the heavens to get close to him and his brother, awaiting the day he could take his revenge. During this centuries-long time, SQX and MY become best friends, nigh on inseparable. Finally, the day of reckoning arrived. HX takes on the form of the demon to reveal the truth to SQX, before kidnapping SQX. When SWD arrives to rescue him, HX gives him and ultimatum: either SQX must kill SWD, or SWD must swap SQX's fate with that of a madman's, leaving him to suffer. SWD creates a third path, angering HX until HX rips SWD's head off in front of SQX. SWD dies with the knowledge that he won, that no matter what happened now, he and his brother had gotten all those years together, while HX could never get his family back again. His last words are " My fate is up to me and not the heavens!" In the aftermath, HX strips SQX of his godly power, leaving him to live as a crippled beggar for the rest of his days.
Bingqui: theyre soooooo <3 - shen qingqiu gets so mad over a shitty book that he dies and transmigrates into it as the antagonist. he decides to be nice to the protagonist (luo binghe) so that he doesnt get his arms and legs chopped off and his body stuffed into a jar. as a result luo binghe falls in love with him. - shen qingqiu literally Does Not See any of the characters as people, he sees them as characters in the book. Including binghe. Hes always like "aghhhhh my favourite little white lotus <3 the protagonist <3 my blorbo <3" like binghe is straight up Not a person to him - an evil computer controlling shen qingqiu's actions forces him to push luo binghe off a cliff into the abyss to experience Horrible Trauma. at no point does binghe learn that shen qingqiu was forced to do this, he simply chooses to Get Over It. - shen qingqiu is luo binghe's teacher, so you would think that that's the core of the unequal power dynamic, right ? WRONG. - luo binghe is a super OP demon lord with unimaginble power. He has the protagonist halo and literally cannot lose. also he gives shen qingqiu a blood parasite std so he can literally control him and shit. you would think that THAT's the core of the unequal power dynamic then, right ? ALSO WRONG - luo binghe is so so obsessed with shen qingqui if sqq told him to leave and never come back or smth he would straight up kill himself - literally no one is winning. its an unequal power dynamic no matter how you look at it but NO ONE IS WINNING - shen qingqui dies and luo binghe literally sleeps with his dead body for like five years. - theyre sooooo codependent like their whole relationship is binghe being horribly soppy over shen qingqiu and just generally stalker level obsessed while shen qingqiu pretends to hate it but secretly loves it and absolutely is obsessed with binghe being obsessed with him. - they deserve each other sososo much they make each other worse and they love that <3

Can I ask your top 5 (or top 3) favorite characters from TGCF? And why you loved them? And your top 5 favorite moments from the series? Sorry if you've answered this question before...
Hello!!!! I don't think I've answered this before, thank you so much for asking 🦋
Top 5 characters:
Xie Lian - someone with terrible luck who deserves SO much better and ended up gaining the best, he hasn't let his negative experiences turn him into someone bad but instead puts out as much kindness into the world as he can :") an icon fr
Hua Cheng - someone with the best luck but terrible circumstances and did things completely unconventionally - particularly towards the end (SPOILERS) when there's a reveal about what he was offered, that truly cemented him as my favourite character
Shi Qingxuan - genderfluid ICON ugh they have a very similar personality to myself and I adore SQX so much - I love them for their potential and wish we got more about them, their story is definitely not finished
Quan Yizhen - he has many braincells but the most important one is Shizun-shaped and it's the one he uses most frequently - fluffy prince I love him so much
Mu Qing - there's just something special about him that I really love. I did get quite annoyed with him at one point in the story but it's because he did something that he redeemed himself for later - he really gained his place back in my heart after that :")
Top 5 moments, spoilers ahead:
Hualian confession scene!!!!! I LOVE hualian so much 😭
Quan Yizhen waking up, not questioning Xie Lian and throwing a whole bed at Pei Ming
Quan Yizhen later leaving gold bars for Xie Lian, sneaking them in and generally being a wholesome menace (I LOVE qyz)
Hua Cheng creating E-Ming and the events surrounding this (one of the main reasons why I admire HC so much)
3000 lanterns scene - nothing is too much from one love to another 🦋

who was player one’s favorite character in the og story (if that’s not too big a spoiler)
and was sqx’s favorite character one of the protagonist or their self insert?
The first question is sadly too much of a spoiler... My lips are sealed on Player One!!
Shi Qingxuan's favourite character was Feng Xin, Hua Cheng or He Xuan because they were hot and yandere. Xie Lian wax basically just a self insert but another version of it.
More wish fulfilment, if anything.

Hii!! I read your fic Into darker Water and I loved it SO much!! The way you wrote he xuan and sqx's dynamic post canon was very realistic and it did a very good job of doing justice to both their characters and principles. They have a very complicated relationship and it's very hard to pull off romance between them without undoing or dismissing their individual struggles and motives. And you have the biggest KUDOS form me for writing such an amazing fic!! It's one of my absolute favourites of shuangxuan! ❤️ I go back to read that fic again and again. I do wonder about their wedding tho. 😍 was it a grand affair or a private thing just between them 👀 lol but yeah Idk if you ever plan to write more for that fandom but if you ever do, I'd love to read it!
Second thing, I was going through your tgcf tag and I saw the post about Islamophobia in tgcf and that made me wonder .. which part are you talking about? I didn't read the whole book. I only read till the part where pei ming's backstory was revealed and then kinda lost steam and interest 😅 (I may have skipped and skimmed through the rest of the story to read only the parts that I liked & just to get a sense of the rest of the story so I know the major plot points) but is it before that? Would you mind giving the details? And your thoughts about it? if you don't want to answer feel free to ignore this or you can just reply privately.
Thank you and I hope you're doing well xoxo 😘
Thank you so much!! Into Deeper Water is the longest thing I've ever written, in part because it is indeed very difficult to reconcile these two after everything that's happened between them. I'm very happy to know my attempt at it resonates with other people! And I'm actually doing pretty well right now, I've had pretty severe writer's block for like 2 years now but got into doing other creative things and am slowly feeling like poking my toes back into writing. Probably not for TGCF but who knows!
As for your questions: It's been a while since I read/thought about the book but let me see..
1) I feel like they'd have a very private and deeply bittersweet wedding ceremony, since there's so much baggage around each other's families and the idea of marriage. But then afterwards, possibly with some time between, they'd have a huge fancy wedding reception where Shi Qingxuan cheerfully accepts that He Xuan will show up for five minutes then go invisible to snack on the elaborate banquet. But He Xuan does make the effort to begrudgingly accept congratulations from the few people he genuinely likes (and swipes food from anyone he doesn't).
2) It's after meeting Pei Ming's ex, though still in Book 1. It's the part where they go to Banyue in the desert.
CW: fictional and real life genocide and ethnic prejudice.
OK I WAS GOING TO PUT A CUT HERE BUT IT KEEPS BREAKING. JUST PRETEND THERE IS A CUT HERE.
I wanted to link some of the more informed discussion I saw around this topic when that part of the donghua came out but can't find anything, so will just construct what I can from the posts I made at the time.
The country of Banyue is located in north-western China, which in real life is the home of the Uyghur ethnic minority, who are mostly Muslim.
In the novel, the native inhabitants of the region are depicted as violent, mindlessly expansionistic, xenophobic terrorists who shout about having been invaded as an excuse to bomb innocent people. This is the description of their leader, Kei Mo: "His complexion was as dark as iron, while his facial features seemed vicious and aggressive. In fact, his face appeared similar to that of a beast’s." I am far from an expert on how ethnic prejudice and Islamophobia manifest in China, but that's pretty blatant.
And in real life, the Chinese government is currently committing genocide against the Uyghurs with the excuse that their culture and religion is inherently violent. So it was beyond unfortunate for MXTX to construct a plot where their fictional equivalent are literal suicide bombers and the only way to deal with them is to commit complete genocide.
Luckily this plot gets dropped after that section of the story, and it's arguably not notably worse than the Islamophobia that commonly shows up in Western media, especially fantasy. But I still feel like it's good to give people a heads up.

Tg remains my favourite novel but I think I’m kinda burnt out and I’m not really too excited about this new revised/censored version + extra. Like, good to know it came out but I’m not really running to see what it says.
I do feel a bit curious about the disappearance of Lang Ying. I understand mxtx felt he was unnecessary but where will the story go then? It’s thanks to him that we first see the human face disease. It’s also thanks to him (or rather HC disguised as him) that we get one of the best phrases XL says. He also appears briefly at one small interaction between XL and SQX (it may be irrelevant but I love their interactions), and I guess it was also a bit important when he gives his life to YW for revenge. Surely he wasn’t a super relevant character but I feel like erasing him from the story makes a ton of changes (from the first arc) so I can’t help but wonder how will that turn out.

tgcf for fandom thing
ok i gotta confess i read the entirety of it in four days so i dont remember everything. because i am insane and stupid
Favourite male character: its gonna be real basic of me to say hua cheng but hes so gender...also uhh. i do enjoy shi wudu actually. quingxuan (wind master)'s older brother you will nto ask me why i tend to like characters that are older brothers.
Favourite female character: are there that many. um. ban yue + jian lan.... jian lan i love
Least favourite character: idk . i dont Dislike Characters very often actually id have to have a personal vendetta against them or somethign. even if i dislike what a character is doing the fact that they're up to shit with narrative significance makes me go "ohh good element of story" and i can still end up thinking they're neat
Favourite villain: does shi wudu count. he xuan. that one art of the third heavenly calamity arc is really good and i get chills thinking about it BUT I CANT FIND IT. IM SO UPSET anyways he xuan my beloved
Favourite ship: hualian because im basic but beefleaf . beefleaf
Favourite friendship: he xuan and hua cheng
Funny scene: something about xie lian dialing up hua cheng because the Big God Dude TM asked him to & hua cheng gets suspicious so he has sqx call him up in the bath to see if hes ok
Saddest scene: the scene in the like fall of xianle arc or something where xie lian has all these people kill him over and over so they get immunity..that fucked me up. also when hes kinda just like lying there in a crater and people ignore him in visible distress so he's stewing in misery+hate but eventually someone does actually help him & just that one person being nice was enough to change his mind
Favourite arc: third calamity/black water arc is good. also the sorta. final arc with god of gods dude . that one's funky
Favourite song: uhhh donghua op theme maybe? ive actually seriously forgotten

[wip tidbit] smth is scratching--
Full Title: something is scratching its way out Chapter: 1 (technically)
Fandom: TGCF Rating: T (for now?) Ships: Hualian, eventual Beef/leaf, Feng/qing, etc TL;DR: Role Reversal AU + GNC XL + mostly Ban Yue’s POV + Genderfluid Calamity King/Queen SQX + ghdkufjhiukfddshku
Note:
ok so i’m working on my hualian role reversal au thats close to getting dumped out there in the wide ao3 world (especially cause the donghua is making me Really want to write this au and i’m excited) so ive decided that im gonna be posting my wip tidbits here!!! (ignoring the fact that i made a side blog precisely for writing purposes like this that i’m choosing to ignore atm)
so for those unfamiliar -- my wip tidbits are essentially a compilation of my favourite scenes, dialogue, and writing bits that i want to share while i’m still in the writing stage. unlike what ive done for my [it was only one night] story, the tidbits shown here are mostly completed scenes and will most likely stay as it is when it’s in the actual story since i’ve already edited most of it (it’s just that the chapter itself isn’t completed, hence why the story/chapter hasn’t been posted yet)
i’ll probably make another post just to include the names and characters and the pinyin. my chinese is extremely rusty (as in, several years and i barely remember all the characters and pinyin i learned for 2 years kind of rusty,) so any corrections and suggestions would be taken into heavy consideration. but i’ll wait for now
WARNING PLEASE READ:
there will be scenes where XL is female in the fic. if you’re not comfortable with that fact, then this fic might not be for you
.
She still feels like a stranger standing in someone’s tomb.
.
He does this on purpose — gently teasing her, yet never mocking her. She’s never had parents, and her father never got along with his own apart from his mother. He doesn’t know how to be a parent, and that’s always been a bit of a comfort. They’re learning how to be a family. They’re learning how to have a father in her case, and a daughter in his.
She quite likes the warm feeling she gets when she thinks of what a family might be like.
.
He has the best history of being in the ghost realm — all the ghosts seem to get along with Hua Cheng better than the others. Perhaps it’s because he doesn’t go out of his way to vanquish them unless the emperor tells him to? Apparently, he also made temples dedicated to the fallen god, the Crown Prince of Xian Le, the gatherer of the broken and the lost. There’s no use in doing so, and yet, it’s precisely because of these temples that they find the ghosts in need of assistance.
The heavenly officials still call him a hopeless fool for trying to find a god who was, undoubtedly, dead. Among the living, he’s known as the Red Immortal Cultivator that wanders the world to establish these temples. And it’s far from the strangest thing about the man.
These were all facts that was told to her by the Spring Calamity who giggled in outright amusement.
(And yes, her father wasn’t very happy about the existence of these temples, but he allowed them to stand because they were created by Hua Cheng.
It also allowed them to find and help the ghosts in need.)
.
Where the Black Sword of Lost Summer Souls goes, the Grey Haze of Forgotten Graves is sure to follow behind him.
.
And so, she will do her best to help.
But…
“Father.”
“What is it, A-Yue?”
“When are you going to change out of those bridal clothes?”
“Ah…”
. . .
Ban Yue didn’t know whether she wanted to laugh or cry.
.
This was getting unnecessarily complicated.
She’s starting to think that Shi Qingxuan is more of an influencer than she initially expected when it came to her father.
Admittedly, whichever form her father uses is a lose-lose situation. If he were a woman, then the heavenly officials would immediately jump to conclusions that he’s the infamous Black Sword — Hei Jian, Black Summer, Hei Xia, Black Sword of Lost Summer Souls, whichever title people prefer because he has so many names — within a few minutes of conversation, but if he remained as he is, then he would risk being recognized as the former crown prince, a fact that he kept known only to those close to him.
. . .
“Shi Qingxuan visited me before we left,” her father explains. “Don’t you remember?”
Ah, right… that was definitely something that happened.
.
“Be the bride,” the Spring Calamity giggled, eyes glimmering with mischief from across the table. She tapped her fan against the table, gleeful at the concept of a wedding. “Maybe you’ll even get hitched with a Bridegroom after all these years of waiting for true love!”
.
“I assumed that he was joking.”
. . .
“And those heavenly officials…?” she raises a brow as he hums, seeming to double-check his appearance in the mirror. “Hua Cheng was with them. You saw his butterfly — it approached you.”
“I saw,” he smiles as he turns to look at her with shining eyes. “The butterflies are adorable, aren’t they?”
.
They were being followed.
It isn’t the infamous bridegroom as their group was expecting — they had hardly taken a step into the forest, after all. Rather, she ends up finding the three heavenly officials they ran into earlier that day at the teahouse. One of them freaks out — she’s not sure why, but he’s uncomfortable, constantly giving her a look filled with squeamish horror. The other one tsks and sneers, acting as if she was a nuisance as he called her gloomy.
Or he called her ugly. She’s not quite sure, considering that she isn’t exactly listening to him.
.
It was her father’s job to subdue the Wrath that awaited them. And she knows that he’ll be safe, that he’s strong enough to protect himself. She’s always known this fact. Her father was the strongest person she’s ever known. That does not mean she’s okay with leaving him alone as he sits in the sedan.
She’s not sure if it’s better or worse that Hua Cheng stayed behind to protect her father.
