Before everything started, before presidency and treason and bakeries, Niki Nihachu, cocktail waitress, meets a charming swindler. A wonderful niki voice and I'm so interested to see honeyblock explores these jagged-edge friendships, and where it goes.

Okay so I love a crackfic if it's done well, and this is done very well. Spock learns that sometimes people use Emojis to substitute for body language and convey tone. So he starts using them. The ship goes insane. It's very funny.

And benchtrio is there being vigilantes I guess, but PHIL AND TECHNO GET TO BE AWESOME and there is KIDNAPPING (for fun) and when I tell you I am having a GREAT time. *points* It's my blorbos and they're superheros!

Okay so this one is in my notes as "Bedrock Bros but there are some small problems in the relationship". Cause OH BOY. The premise is that Tommy walks in on a murder but the serial killer doesn't kill kids so he just takes him. And then tommy is a prisoner. And it goes from there. It's got really good character voice, and it's a really fantastic exploration of abuse and fucked up power dynamics, and at the same time I LIKE the characters and I want a happy ending, but we can't have one, because one of the people in this friendship is a serial killer holding the other prisoner. It's REALLY good.

i spent a few months working with shakespeare’s globe in london, which is a reconstruction of a theatre built in 1599, which itself is a reconstruction of a theatre built in 1576. obviously this was before they had the ability to put microphones on actors, so one of the big questions scholars had was ‘how did people hear the play?’ turns out, as ppl discovered when they rebuilt the globe, the circular shape of the walls (combined with the springy oak-and-plaster they were made of) create a huge amplifying effect on all sounds emanating from the stage, meaning—even today—everyone can hear just fine. and i was like. why are you surprised by this. why are people shocked that humans of the past actually Knew What They Were Doing. why are people amazed that machu picchu is architecturally genius or surprised that the iliad is devastatingly powerful or stunned that ppl were solving sinusoidal trigonometric equations possibly as early as 350 CE. history is not one long linear march leading up to Today, The Zenith Of Everything & just bc somethings newer doesnt make it better & i am not smarter than the guy who wrote gilgamesh. actually this post is about people who were introduced to star trek by the flashy new stuff and then watched the original series and were, for some reason, shocked that so much of it was “actually good”

the thing is that when you look deep enough, Klingons and Klingon society is actually pretty well developed by Star Trek standards. we know the ideals of their society and the way their ideals are corrupted by classism and archaic tradition. we see how "warrior" and "honor" are complex terms that involve more than just warfare and fighting. but we also see Klingon scientists and lawyers who are proud of their work but are pushed aside for not living up to their society's standards. we see how their political relations change over time and how strategic alliances are formed and dissolved. we know their marriage customs and holidays and mythology and history. we see a variety of Klingon characters with varying degrees of attachment to their species and culture. we see how they're stereotyped and discriminated against in the Federation for being "too alien" when the Federation is supposed to be accepting of differences. we have an entire real, usable language for Kahless's sake.

the thing is also that 90% of Klingon stories choose to ignore all this complexity in favor of bioessentialism and racist takes on "warrior society".
