Eldritch Echo
So. I haven't seen the Bad Batch and don't really intend to, but I have read some fics (please do not take that as me saying that's the same as understanding the story) and between that and my thoughts of eldritch stuff in Star Wars and a cool art piece I came across that I think was referencing something I don't have the context for, I started wondering what it'd look like if of the Bad Batch, Echo was the only eldritch/cryptid/vampire/otherwise not human one. NOT because of the Techno Union, but because of something that happened sooner OR he'd always been like that. And I might put a bit of that in my vampire clones thing but I was thinking eldritch and I ended up writing a thing. So. Enjoy:
***********
Crosshair’s willing to admit he doesn’t dislike Echo. He respects the guy’s resilience and his willingness to go with the flow, which is necessary for someone working with their team, even as he rolls his eyes at Echo’s tendency to twitch at the state of their ship and his reluctance to drop the “sir” when talking to Hunter. More than that Echo has zero qualms about sassing him if Crosshair picks a fight and it’s a lot of fun to rile him up.
That said. Echo is also really freaking weird.
Crosshair is very observant, between his eyesight, his role on the team, and his training he had to be and either something’s very off about Echo or he’s started hallucinating because he keeps seeing things that don’t make sense. Not for a reg and not for a cyborg.
He explains this the Hunter once, trying to see if he’s noticed anything, and Hunter frowns. “Can you give me an example?”
“His eyes for one.”
Hunter blinked. “What?”
“We all know what most trooper’s eyes look like. And we’ve seen some variations. But they don’t change color. I’ve seen his eyes go golden or violet, and it wasn’t the lighting.”
“You’re sure?”
“Yes I’m sure what do you take me for?” Crosshair snapped. “Look. Next time we’re on a sunny planet. Take a look at his shadow. It doesn’t match him at all. I’ve seen it prowling around him like a tooka without him or a light source moving. It doesn’t look like him either. And remember that time we were sparring and he panicked and bit me? I asked Tech, the Techno Union didn’t do anything to his teeth, but I know what bitemarks look like and that was not it.”
Hunter sighed. “I’ll pay attention but-” He paused. “Huh.”
“What?”
“It might not be anything.” He replies and only knowing that he’s getting to the point keeps Crosshair from interrupting. “But remember how I told you guys that people smell like animals? They’re distinct from each other, and you know I can’t describe it cause I tried to describe you guys, but it’s not like they smell like flowers or old books or whatever people like to think they’d smell like unless they’re wearing a scent. Echo, he doesn’t smell like a trooper. I just never thought about it for some reason.”
“And what does he smell like?”
Hunter frowned as he tried to find the words. “Well. He does smell a bit like a trooper and a bit metallic. But he also smells like, what’s was the spice in that cake you liked so much? The one we found on that mission with the weird vultures?”
Crosshair hummed. That had been a really freaking good cake. “The lady said it was a cardamon cream cake. So he smells like cardamon?”
“Cardamon and lilies and wet dirt is the best way I can describe it and I know it’s not his soap cause he uses the same stuff as the rest of us. So yeah. I guess I’ll pay attention.”
Two days later Crosshair gets confirmation that something’s up in a way he did not expect.
Because walking around in the dark in the middle of the night is his job so it’s already odd to find Echo leaning against the cabinet in their ship’s tiny kitchen in the pitch dark. “You’re going to trip reg.” Crosshair says and leans over to get the lights when Echo looks up.
And twelve pairs of golden violet eyes meet Crosshair’s.
He staggers back, trips over something, falls. “Crosshair!” Echo grabs his hand, pulling him up, then scrambles for the lights as if he forgot they might be necessary and Crosshair yelps as the light hits his eyes.
He blames that and the shock for blurting out; “What the hell are you Echo?”
Echo blinks, looking hurt. “I’m a trooper. Like you all.”
“Troopers don’t have twenty-four freaking eyes.” Crosshair hissed. They aren’t there now, he’s got 2 brown eyes in the exact same shade of brown nearly every trooper has, but Crosshair knows what he saw. He knows what he’s been seeing.
Echo tilts his head. And he grins. It’s a smile Crosshair’s seen before, whenever Echo’s about to respond to his taunts with something cutting and clever, part “take that” and part inviting him to share the joke. There’s nothing off about that smile save for that it’s mirrored in Echo’s shadow, splayed against the cabinets behind him too dark for their lights.
“The Bad Batch.” Echo muses, like there’s a joke Crosshair hasn’t caught yet, and he’s never had a reason to call Echo dangerous even when he didn’t trust him, but he’s starting to feel cornered even though Echo hasn’t moved. “You think you’re the only strange ones. ‘Don’t worry Rex, we know how to handle a reg.’ Never mind that Torrent was always a little crazy, or it used to be. Never mind that I was an ARC and a damn good one, and we’re all more than competent. And I appreciate what you all did, in welcoming me into the squad, I appreciate it more than I can say, and I do really like you guys, but you are so freaking cocky. So certain you can handle anything. And to be fair you’re damn good at your job, but sometimes it’s annoying. So.” He grins that taunting grin again. “You want to know what the reg’s deal is? Figure it out.”
He leaves. His grinning shadow lingers a moment before following. Crosshair stares.
And then decides that a glass of water isn’t gonna cut it and goes for the stash of moonshine.

So, I took this image created by Anne Wu from the Star Wars junior novel "Pirate's Price," and this art from "Stories of Light and Dark: Bane's Story," which has no credited artist, and combined them into one image. Both artworks belong to Disney / LucasFilm and are not fan created works, however this is my edit.
I thought the styles were similar and that they would look good together. To me it appears like Hondo Ohnaka is running from Cad Bane, whereas he's after the bounty on his head. :D I still honestly think this would make an amazing tattoo. I may even treat myself one day.

And a guide: -In no way these are my recommendations, I actually unrecommend a certain book here, I'm still working on my recommendations post but this is just the Wookiepedia list just less confusing (I hope) -She isn't a main character in all of these. At all. And some are just cameos, I didn't get into specifics about that. -Most of the canon books & short stories can be found in e-book/digital form, or in physical copies pretty easily, just look them up. -The same thing that goes for the canon books goes for the canon comics, although most of the issues listed are a part of a series (as might be evident by their numbers). That doesn't mean you need to read the rest, because they're pretty stand-alone and usually just reference the other issues of the series/have a framing story related to that. -I'm not sure where you can find the Star Wars Insider issue or the Adventures Ashcan, sorry about that. -The Bad Batch Season 3 did not come out yet so it gets a question mark. Might try and update this after it does. -The Legends list is much more complicated than canon, since anything related to The Clone Wars series may contradict the prior Legends media. That's why I marked those in bold, as they are only officially part of that timeline, and don't make much sense with the rest of it (most of it, other than the actual episodes, were mostly de-canonized when Disney bought Star Wars with the rest of Legends). -There are ofc the original printings of those, but I also I believe most of the Legends books listed were reprinted as a part of the Legends brand, but if they weren't then idk what to tell you. -The Legends comics were also reprinted, mostly in big, pretty expensive collections. So it might be harder to buy those. I think there are digital copies of those collections, though, so you can buy them for cheaper that way. -The Clone Wars webcomics can be found here , through @clonewarsarchives (a great resource overall) -The short TCW stories (in bold under short comic story) can all be found here (once again through clone wars archives) -The Restraint short story can't be found anywhere I looked, only in the 2nd printing of Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter. One of 2 things on the Legends list I've yet to read. -The Dark Heart short story was originally published online, so it's here legally (link straight from Wookiepedia I sure hope it's legal). -I have no idea how to get to the Graphic Novels normally but I trust they're on eBay and co. -I've only talked about legal options but obviously, there's more. Act with discretion and I'm not posting links like that here. I might be able to help more through DMs but you know.

Again, Anakin’s barely suppressed smile said something different than the grave look in his eyes. “Well, in any case, I’m coming with you.” Obi-Wan had foreseen this. Anakin was as close as a brother, and of course he wouldn’t let Obi-Wan face this mission alone. So Obi-Wan gave Anakin an answer crafted to convince him to stay behind. “The presence of one Jedi on Mandalore will be hard enough to conceal. Two Jedi will be impossible. You’d put the mission at risk. And Satine.” Obi-Wan watched the struggle on Anakin’s face: the thing he wanted to do versus the thing he needed to do. In the end, reason won out. This was much to Obi-Wan’s relief. He wasn’t sure what he would have done if Anakin had decided the other way. “At least take my ship, Master.” “The Twilight? That bucket of bolts? I thought you liked me.” “Corellian freighters come and go from Mandalore by the dozens. She’s your best chance at landing unchallenged. Besides, the transponder’s malfunctioning, so you can leave Coruscant orbit without anybody noticing.” It was Obi-Wan’s turn to smirk. “Malfunctioning or deactivated on purpose?” Anakin shrugged with innocence. “Hey, you know the Twilight. She’s seen some heavy battles these last few weeks. It takes a toll.”

listening to the audiobook of stories of light and dark* and the writing on "dooku captured" is soooooo bad, sorry not sorry lou anders, but corey burton is really putting everything into the performance
it sounds like dooku is, like, narrating a penthouse letter or is the protagonist of my immortal** or something, with the weird details of ship and droid models and the self-aggrandizement and comments on the prowess of his lineage?? i can't stop laughing

Finally read “Clone Wars Stories of Light and Dark” and too much if my brain space is now being taken up with Yenna, Falta and Bug. I would watch the hell out of their ongoing adventures.
Most of the rest of the book was just ok. So glad I stuck it out to get to that gem though. Wow.

Book Review: Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Stories of Light and Dark
Book Review: Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Stories of Light and Dark
If you can’t get enough Clone Wars, or you just really dig the tradition of Star Wars anthologies, this is gonna be a must-read for you. Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Stories of Light and Dark is unique in where it enters canon and interacts with the show. Not only is it so carefully edited, it’s clear that heart went into each story from each author. The book The intro is written by Jennifer…

You Look Cold.
Pairing – Anakin Skywalker x GN!Reader
Summary – You and Anakin are on a Jedi mission to snoop out the Separatists, but what you don't expect is to find the warmth you needed on one of your coldest missions.
Word Count – 1354
Warnings – Angst?, near-death, hypothermia, swearing
A/N – I've been saving this one for a rainy day but now I think is the best time to let it free from my drafts after not posting a story for a whole week.
Tumblr media
Perhaps this idea of a stakeout on a dry, frozen planet wasn’t the best. You had been expecting the arrival of a fearsome Dooku and one of his many new Separatist apprentices in the darkness of the night, but what you hadn’t expected was the planet’s drastic change in the temperature. The sun was the one star keeping you warm, and now the bitterness of the cold nipped at your fingertips, and it was only late evening.
You and Anakin had been sent to spy on the Sith Lord atop the ridges of their supposed “secret” base but had not been forewarned at the gradual descent in temperature. No extra layers, no questions, and no preparation for your impromptu visit. Obi-Wan had the fortune of not being able to join you both on your scout and instead had requested to stay back and wait for Anakin’s signal to fly down with their army of clones and attack when they least expected it.
Anakin was diligently keeping a watchful eye at the edge of the cliff face, whilst you were trying to forcefully stretch your robes around your shivering body. You earlier asked Anakin if there was any slim chance you would be able to light a fire to keep yourself from earning yourself purple phalanges, but Anakin persisted it would “expose our location.” Anything for the Jedi Order, you suppose.
Anakin had never shown much affection to you as he considered that you were just another Jedi doing your job in the war. It didn’t bother you that much, he had his priorities, and you had yours. Every Jedi had vowed to put their duties and efforts for the war in front of personal desires. It would have been easy, if you hadn’t had the fattest crush on him.
You wanted to twirl his brown hair around your fingers, rest your body on his firm chest, and simply hold him for a while. You knew Anakin had quirks, he was sensitive and had outbursts at his temperaments. You couldn’t think about your adornment for the knight right now, you could only wish that the rage that boiled inside of was hot enough to keep you warm.
Anakin was fairly larger than you and much better trained. His endurance and size allowed him to feel the cold, but not quiver at the sensation as majorly as you. You knew though, that he couldn’t keep up this facade of being a strong and resistant fighter for much longer. He would soon be in your position and consider putting the mission in jeopardy for a fire.
While he kept a lookout, waiting for the dark leaders to leave the safety of their base, you continued to shudder and rock, wiggling your toes and trying your hardest not to succumb to the cold. Your hood was raised over your head, but the skin on your face had the greatest exposure, and you felt your nose start to leak.
“Still no sign of them.” He told you, but once he turned to face you, he was met with a near-corpse body. You had stopped your jittering, instead, your teeth chattered rapidly. Your cheeks and nose had a colouration that was vastly different from the rest of your skin. You didn’t look him in the eyes because you were too zoned out, staring at the pebbles and rocks of dust.
“You look cold.” He called out to you, but you omitted no movements. He ran up to you in panic, immediately draping your cold form under his robe and forcing you into his body. If it weren’t for the fact your consciousness was slowly leaving you, you might’ve been a little flustered, but now the rosiness on your cheeks was enough to blame on the cold. He pressed your face into his neck, he was surprisingly warm (it must’ve been the rage all along). He didn’t grimace when your wet nose made contact with his dry skin, but he did grimace at the freezing feeling of your skin. The slight warmth he provided gave you enough energy to rasp out a few words.
“No… sh-shit…” He cradled you, and you revelled in his touch. It didn’t stop the tingling in your legs when you tried to move them, and your fingers felt so brittle they might snap off. He quietly shushed you and pulled you onto the earth, you both lying on the ground with him hugging you tightly. This was a feeling you had always wanted, but not in such dire circumstances might they be a little bit romantic.
With your nose still squished against his neck, you could only make out the sound of the rustling of fabric. You weren’t sure what you were hearing, but once warm hands found your own icy ones, you couldn’t help but smile into his neck.
“Fuck, you should’ve said something sooner.” He scolded you. You wanted to laugh, but your body was too void of energy to do anything unless it was minor.
“I didn’t… want to worry… you… The missi…” You were quiet, conserving your energy as best you could.
“Fuck the mission. You’re worth more than some Sith scum.” He barked, and there was that bitter Anakin you knew and loved.
“If I die…” You started.
“You’re not going to die! I won’t let that happen.” He was truly sensitive. He was still a young boy who had lost too many people in his life, thrust into a war and is claimed to be the “chosen one.” You heard that he had too much to handle at such a young age that you didn’t want to press him into telling you more, not wanting to ignite the everlasting spark that might end in a catastrophic cataclysm.
“If I die… I’ve always liked you, Ani… I just wanted you to know.” He didn’t retaliate or say anything in return, he just kept you pressed against him. Until he thought it was long enough and he tilted your head upwards at him slowly. Your half-lidded eyes stared up at him, you didn’t want him to see you this weak. He wouldn’t have thought to see you as weak, and your awaited response was reciprocated in a warm kiss.
Your lips were chapped from the constant heavy and jagged mouth-breathing your lifeless body had defaulted to. When he pulled his lips back from yours, shocked at your icy skin, you gave him no response, at all. Your eyes closed and your breathing softened, you finally succumbed to the cold and blacked out.
You couldn’t tell, but at the same time, Anakin heard faint voices coming from below the cliff. He didn’t dare leave your side, and instead reached for his comms and spoke into it.
“Obi-Wan, they’re out, and please send medical help. Immediately.” It only took half a minute before a dozen ships flew down to meet the Sith Lord. You were quickly brisked away for support, and Anakin was anxious throughout the attack.
You woke up in a Coruscanti medical bay, far warmer than you last remembered. You looked to your side to see a very relieved Anakin standing over you. His eyes were red like he had been crying, he was always such a sensitive boy.
“Thank the stars you’re okay. You scared me back there!” He scolded you once again, unknowing where to direct his frustrations. His clamour made you want to laugh, but you had enough energy that you could actually let out a small chuckle, so you did.
“I’d do it more often… If it meant I got that much attention.” He made a small laugh in return, and you swore you could see a tear glisten down the side of his cheek. He leaned in over you, connecting your lips together.
“You don’t have to risk your life for it.” He breathed over your now warm lips, “just ask.” he whispered and reconnected your lips again once more. You smiled against his lips, your heart flipping in your chest at the realisation that the man you admired for a long time, finally loved you back.

I don't know what I'm going to do after I finish all of these! Maybe finally read the second Thrawn trilogy or get around to the second and third Padme books or, ooh, Outbound Flight got an unabridged audiobook version and I never did finish that one! It's been fun to have a bunch of audiobooks to listen to via my library and one thing I will say for The High Republic stories, is that I do think they're some of the best interconnected storytelling Star Wars has had outside of the animated series' continuity with the movies. I do feel like they often times are hamstrung by "so much of the cool stuff happening is just a repeat of the things the Jedi in the Clone Wars did", but the sense of all these moving parts that work together, different authors all having a pretty coherent take on the characters and plot, despite being in so many different books, is really well-done. They're fun to get through, and that's what I'm really looking for.

The bad batch season 3 premier reactions
Ep 1 - confined
I fully forgot about this premier until I was eating lunch and it hit me oh I'm so intrigued
Palps being front and centre in the D+ poster delights me
Not them starting with tech's death lol
Why is it so fucking dark it's animation you have the ability to make it visible so easily
Omega baby I'm so sorry yeah it sucks to be a star wars main character huh
That's some sweeney todd coloured blood lmao
While palpatine cloning nonsense in ep ix is... a Choice, and this justification in other shows doesn't fix it, I just love palpatine shenanigans
Oh Omega has a pony tail... she's been there a while
'I wouldn't think twice about leaving you behind' he lied
The way this season starts with a child prisoner just going through it is brutal
Episode 2 - paths unknown
Isa is spreading her legs so wild on that throne what a power move
The boys!! Oh they look like fucking shit these poor bastards lol
Child clones out in the wild nooo poor babies
I love their little kiwi accents omg and they sound like actual teen boys this VA is great
Again with the bad lighting
Okay but why are space ships apparently so easy to steal in this galaxy?
Oh hey the writers remembered Hunter's abilities
Okay this plotline was a little predictable but the boys are charming at least
Episode 3 - shadow of tantiss
I hope this episode has something real juicy in it
I'm not really a fan of Crosshair's character so I kinda love seeing him miserable lmaoooo
Feels like Emerie doesn't have the best hygienic practices. A blood sample without cleaning the the skin???
Omg Nala Se telling Omega to leave oooohhh
PALPATINE!! SLAY!! What's this cheeky bastard up to?
Project necromancer???
I do love Crosshair's mean little voice
I live for how unphased Omega is about the Emperor
Oh Palpatine... God love him even his backup plans have backup plans
I do miss his slay outfits from when he was chancellor
Not Crosshair shading Tech like that
Omega murdered those troopers lmao
Does Omega have a high M-Count???
Oh bitch Omega is force sensitive
Overall a... fine premier lol
My favourite part was Palpatine but story beats were kinda predictable

This is a really interesting take on TPM, art and text by @FaithErinHicks from twitter.
Anakin´s story
Imagine you are a slave boy on Tatooine. You & your mother are sold to a junk trader when you were 3 years old & you live without freedom, without personhood. You & your mother together, against the world.
Tumblr media
A Jedi Knight comes to Tatooine. The Jedi are the “Guardians of Peace and Justice” but he is not here to free slaves. There is no justice on Tatooine, but the Jedi Knight doesn’t seem to care about that.
Tumblr media
The Jedi decides to take you away from Tatooine. Not because you are a slave boy & he recognizes that injustice, but because you are special. You are a Chosen One from some prophecy you’ve never heard of. You will become a Jedi.
Tumblr media
You have to leave your mother, who the Jedi will not free. The one person in the world who you love, you must leave her in slavery, while you become a Jedi, a Guardian of Peace and Justice.
Tumblr media
You are told by privileged people in robes you will not become a Jedi, you are not fit. You are a child, and you miss your mother. The Jedi tell you to fear losing her is to risk falling to the Dark Side. But what is the Light without your mother?
Tumblr media
At the end of the story there is a party & you watch a Queen gives a Gungan a shiny ball. You are a Padawan, you will become a Jedi someday. But do the Jedi take you back to Tattoine, to rescue your mother? They do not.

There is no justice for your mother, still a slave, trapped galaxies apart from you. Years pass & the Jedi, Guardians of Peace & Justice, do not free her. You are the Chosen One, but you have no agency, no power. You are merely a tool to be used to bring balance to the Force.

The Dark Side beckons.

"Anakin and "The Son(Darkside) from the Clone Wars"
Now I personally think this wasn´t the sole reason Anakin fell to the darkside but this definitely was a strong reason for him to develop tension with the entire Jedi Order along with what happens on the Clone Wars because it´s curious how they often treat Anakin more like an unreliable resource than one of their own, they expect him to win battles for them but don´t trust him to make decisions and when he shows emotional umbalance as a result of this is tackled as if it´s only a fault of Anakin, all this background certainly explains Vaderkin´s perspective of the Jedi being evil even if he tried for many years to justify them to himself and others,in fact he had an idealized view of them and often defended them to Palpatine.
I am not saying they were indeed evil or that they were in charge of correcting every evil in the galaxy but they are responsible for the things they had the possibility to correct and didn´t just like Anakin was responsible for his own actions.
The Prequel trilogy had many interesting concepts that weren´t truly explored but it´s richness in the story of the tragedy of star wars is still out there to be explored.

My friend convinced me to get into Star Wars
Send help
(Warning: SPOILERS and I’m not THAT into it, so correct where you see fit)
Assassin’s Creed x Star Wars
But the Brotherhood is an ancient af group, as old or older than the og Jedi order, they’re so secretive and mysterious that not even the modern order are sure they exist. Kind of like a spooky myth?
The Force be like: “Brotherhood? What Brotherhood? I didn’t help make any Brotherhood!” We love a bad gaslighting bitch 💜
I think they’d be force users who pretty much do as their original universe do: “We work in the Dark to serve the Light.” All the tenants included.
Their sabers are small af and more blade-like, sort of like the darkblade, but crystal clear and emits very little light, they barely make any noise too. (Phantom Sabers? Maybe? That sounds cool, right?) The Assassins got the white hoods and shit too. Omfg they can finally do the Leap of Faith wherever they want! Fuck gravity! We have the fucking force!
As for Eagle Vision, I think you could pass it off as a force ability. Being able to sense feelings and danger is a thing already, so being able to do a large sweep and tag friend/foe would be a step above that. Also treasures. Like the grabby lil dragons our Assassin babies are. They need to be able to fund shenanigans on the fly, and not all of them have time to grab some from their reserves!
As for their role in the main Star Wars story, we got options:
Shoving Desmond into this shit because I can~
Desmond and his Team™️ investigate the Clone Wars shit, because the Brotherhood has always been against oppression and have been systematically wiping out slavery from several parts of the galaxy for a while now, so they would automatically get suspicious. (Clones? Meant for fighting?? For an entire republic??? With no rights of their own???? Idk man, that sounds sus. Oh and the Jedi don’t have a choice because there’s a whole ass war and it would be against their code not to do anything about it? And there’s an order to kill literally all of them at a moment’s notice? Alright, guess we’ll fix this ourselves!)
Des and the crew find the chips and save the Jedi from mass genocide. Maybe killing Palpatine, because fuck that guy.
Would they need to reveal the Brotherhood’s existence to have that happen? Probably not, but it could happen. Boy, wouldn’t that be interesting?
Also, clone shenanigans, because I love them sm
Especially Bad Batch and Domino Squad
And Rex and Cody
My poor babies
But: if the Brotherhood was weakened like in their og universe and they couldn’t investigate (lets say they were compromised by the Sith for a while before the clone wars)
+ Des was born a bit later
Time to aid the rebellion and face destiny!
(If you REALLY want to throw Des into bullshit, like I know you do: Time travel fix it fic with Luke, Leia, Han, and Desmond!)
(You may also include Mandalorian fun, because I also love the Mandos, my other babies <3 Mandalorian culture goes hard and the fics that include them have kidnapped surprise adopted me)
Y’all have fun, I’m tired ^_^💜

Day 6: RECORDING
Luke Skywalker waited with trepidation as he held a holodisc in his hand, squeezing it gently as he looked around the empty room. The weight of his burden had slowly began to crush against his lean frame, pressing down with an intensity that began to make him feel physically ill as he thought about all that he must do.
Restarting an order.. living up to the legends that came before him..
It was as if witnessing a ghost before him as he inserted the holodisc and saw the visage of his father, Anakin Skywalker, towering over him. A scar ran from his right temple down to the cheek, a harsh blemish on an otherwise soft face. He was dressed like a proper soldier- no, a general. Before him was the man from his dreams, the great hero he had long to meet ever since he was a boy; once thought of as a navigator on a spice freighter, to Jedi Knight, to a Jedi turned Sith. The story and truth always shifted but this image was always there, as fuel to his own personal motivations. To see it as truth was a great relief on the youth's mind. Luke's blue eyes marveled as he stared at the holographic image, a memento given to him by a former Jedi named Ahsoka Tano.
"You will be a great Jedi one day," Anakin Skywalker said with a smile.
Even though this message was not meant for him, Luke couldn't help but look up with awe. He was less a great hero that destroyed the Death Star, the brave warrior that went face to face with the greatest villains the galaxy would ever know, and moreso a lost boy looking upon the praise of the father he only briefly knew.
The recording was paused and Luke walked up to the hologram, noting the differences between himself and his father. The date on the capture confirmed that Anakin would have been almost the exact same age as Luke was now and his smooth features on his face and commanding tenor reflected that. But there was something deeper: eyes that seemed to know pain all his life, a proud stance of a natural leader that instantly captured the room, and an internal desire for acceptance and recognition.
Luke had become a leader over the years but there was a tentativeness to him that he didn't see within his father, as if it were a responsibility forced upon him and he had a natural willingness to please and uphold what was left. His own stance wasn't so proud, but open and inviting, still somewhat assured.
"Incredible," Luke whispered to himself.
There was a whole series of holodiscs to choose from, taking place throughout the entirety of The Clone Wars. For some reason, Anakin seemed to thrive in this setting. Mentions of a Count Dooku, a General Grievous, Ben Kenobi, even Yoda were common. It made those twenty-three someodd years feel like a lifetime ago, of a legend that only existed in fragments like these hologram recordings.
Now, Luke was given the task of restarting that legend.
It had to be done or all this would die with him. The galaxy had been saved but future threats would come and someone would have to answer them, one day, at least. The threat was cyclical: darkness would rise in times of peace and the light had to answer it. Luke had to be ready - but how? What did he have? He was still a young man, with no one else to call on for guidance.
Yoda told him he had all that he needed.. but there had to be more. Luke planned on traveling throughout the known galaxy in search of answers; of artefacts, holocrons, legends. Watching his father smiling back at him was equally as overwhelming as it was incredible.
How could he measure up?
But with a shake of his head, Luke went back to the last message.
"You will be a great Jedi one day," Anakin said to him. There was a finality to it that made Luke certain of his destiny, regardless of how ready he personally thought himself to be. He deactivated the holodisc and gave himself a steady breath. The weight would just have to be his burden to bear; for the Jedi, for his father, for himself.
