i do think the argument of "oh you're being EXTRA harsh on veilguard for being racist/misogynistic/etc! what about all that stuff in previous games??" is actually in very bad faith.

bc firstly: people have already talked about previous games at length. it is weird to expect old arguments to be rehashed when a new thing is available to discuss.

and secondly: yeah, i will actually hold veilguard to a higher standard! i don't think that's unreasonable at all. time is linear, and 10 years passed in between the last game! there have been so many highly public social movements since then, the entire world has changed. most people have had growth in their awareness of the world and how they understand history and politics in that time, just from being alive and reading the news occasionally. they SHOULD have improved! i was never expecting it to be showstoppingly good or like a masterpiece of writing, but... i think "not getting worse, and perhaps being 2% better" is a completely reasonable expectation.

but, it did not improve, and did actually get worse, unfortunately! i do not think it's reasonable for a game published in 2024 to have such a regressive, flat way of depicting women; their implications on the worldbuilding became incredibly similar to irl racist or antisemitic conspiracy theories, while the writers crowed about how they were so proud of ~giving the elves a win~; the portrayal of the qunari only got more flat and islamophobic, somehow; and the entire idea of "i can excuse being nb but i draw the line at being an immigrant" is so stupid that it sends me into space.

i think it's completely reasonable to expect better from Progressive Writers™️ in this modern era! this is a very low bar to exceed, and they still managed to dig under it, on such basic topics as "can women visibly age or be rude and still be major characters". previous games were managing to reach this standard, minor as it was! whether it's a failure of the writing itself, or corporate interference, it is completely valid to expect better.

So, it’s clear that Sky Chime, Dinky, and Rosey won’t all be getting the same cutie marks as the CMC did in canon. Especially since Sky Chime already has her cutie mark. Will Dinky and Rosey get their cutie marks at the same time though like the CMC did? If they did it would probably make Sky Chime feel more isolated. Also, do you have any plans for their cutie marks? 

Very true! One of the things I dislike in Friendship is Magic was the CMC all getting their Cutie Marks at the same time. Giving Sky Chime her secret Cutie Mark was a way to be able to prevent that from the jump - in addition to my narrative reasons of course.

So no, Dinky and Rosy won’t be getting their marks at the same time. It’ll be a plot point going forward and their attitude will be ‘None of us have our Cutie Marks until we All have our Cutie Marks’. Sky will have some anxiety about the girls finding out her secret and you’ll see that in future drawings.

As for their talents, I do have plans for those, and I wanna publish the drafts to show where I’m going with them, but idk, should I spoil it or make it special? Y’all’s can tell me what you think I should do regarding updates.

A hint to it though, is that for Rosy, Sky and Dinky their Cutie Mark stories reflect an aspect of growing up within hints I already gave to what they struggle with. So I have actually put in subtle seeds for the answers, but I will elaborate more as I draw more things!

They have a close but complicated relationship with shadow and a distant relationship with sonic, with either of them barely even knowing that each other existed for the first few years of Blinks life.

What is PSU's hand sign?

You know how some colleges have hand signs that people can throw up to show affiliation? Like, USC's is the V for Victory? What do we think the PSU Foxes' sign would be? I'm leaning towards something like NC State's, but what are everyone's thoughts?

I looked into Clemson and it doesn't seem like they have one. Some of the newer students seem to be trying to get a tiger claw popular similar to Baylor's bear claw but it's apparently controversial.

No Strings Attached

As midnight struck, Mickey felt his strings snap and he immediately crumpled to the ground. He tried to get up but only made it as far as his knees before he collapsed again.

Lying on his back, staring up at the stary night sky above, Mickey became aware of a strange whimpering sound. It took him a few moments to realise he was the one making those noises. Tears rolled down his cheeks.

He distantly wondered if he could lie there forever; just stay there until the ground claimed his bones. It seemed so much easier than the alternative. He was so, so tired.

“Mickey!” the voice sounded far away but he recognised it instantly. “Mickey!”

No, he wouldn’t give up. He couldn’t. He wasn’t the only one who’d had his strings cut.

Angry with himself, Mickey scrubbed the tears away. Then he balled his hands into fists and with a great effort of will, pushed himself into a sitting position.

“Mickey, where are you?”

“Min…” he started to answer but that was all he managed before he started coughing. He tried to stop but it only seemed to get worse.

“Mickey!”

She must have heard him because he could hear her running towards him. A moment later and she was there, flower in her hair and worry on her face.

“Oh Mickey!” She dropped to her knees beside him and threw her arms around him, hugging him tightly. He continued to cough and she rubbed circles on his back until, at last, his body relaxed and he could breathe properly.

“It’s okay,” she reassured him, still holding him. “It’s going to be okay.”

Mickey hugged her back. He realised he was crying again and made an effort to stop. He opened his mouth and tried to speak for the second time. This time he managed it.

“Minnie.” Mickey stopped. He didn’t recognise his own voice. It was horse from all the coughing but it was more than that.

His eyes widened is shock as realised it was the first word he’d ever spoken. Oh, words had come out of his mouth before but he’d never been the one making the decision to say them.

“Minnie,” he said again. “We’re free.”

Hope this is okay to ask but do you have any comic recs for people new to dc? I've seen some of the mainstream TV shows and movies but I've never really read any of the comics, so most of my "batfam" knowledge is limited to Bruce and Dick's storylines.

Of course it's okay!! I love recommending my fav comics, feel free to ask for any and all things :). In general, a great place to start is by picking a character you like and finding a rec list for them. Here's a great one from fantastic-nonsense that covers just about every Batfam character! (It also has a list of great whole Batfam runs).

If you want my opinion, here are my recommendations:

Batgirl (2000): This is where I personally started, and gives you a great overview of a lot of Batfam characters like Bruce, Cass, Babs, Tim, Steph, and Dick. You might need a little background info (if you don't know who these people are it might be a little tough), but it's fairly accessible and easy to learn as you go!

Gotham Knights (2000): A book that spotlights basically every Batfam character at the time, so a great place to get acquainted with everyone. The quality is not quite consistent, but there are gems in here and you get the whole Batfam experience.

Batman: Year One / Robin: Year One / Nightwing: Year One: Since you mentioned you know Bruce and Dick, these are great places to start for both of them! Year One stories are meant to be introductions to the character, so they're fairly accessible. Also check out Batgirl: Year One for Babs.

Batman: No Man's Land: A huge crossover event that shakes up Gotham (as events do), NML features a ton of Batfam characters and serves as Cass' introduction. There are a heap of events right before this, but a quick wiki search can help get you up to speed; it's still alright to jump in here.

Tynion's Detective Comics (2016): Post-New 52 (which was an event that wiped much of previous continuity), this run by Tynion does a great job at re-establishing Batfam characters, and serves as a good intro to many characters such as Tim, Cass, Kate, Luke, and Jean-Paul.

For out of continuity stories, you can check out Li'l Gotham and Wayne Family Adventures. These are great for getting used to the characters before jumping into heavier arcs, and WFA features basically every current Batfam member (the portrayals are not necessarily the most accurate, but this is a good starting point).

Of the current core Batfam, the above list misses Damian, Jason, and Duke. For Damian, read Batman and Robin (2009) (also a hefty amount of Dick!); for Jason, you can watch the Under the Red Hood movie if you haven't already, and the comic is also a good intro; for Duke, We Are Robin (2015) is a great intro and his best run.
