Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've always hated the headcannons that Tome didn't love Ogata or that she would have ignored Ogata if he didn't look like Hanazawa, and now I have proof to back up why I hate them. I think the problem wasn't that she was completely neglectful of Ogata, but instead that she was so focused on his future and his success that she neglected who he was in the present.
(Moreover, the guilt he feels from killing her makes him not able to rationalize her fully– hence the lullaby "The way out is joyous, but the way home is frightful." But by commanding the seventh, he can not only get her attention/make her proud but prove that who he was presently was worthy of love.)
Yuusaku loved Ogata too, but when he projects this ideal future version of Ogata onto him, Ogata kills him.
Tumblr media
All this calls into question his weird love of being demeaned and treated as less than as a means to prove his current self's worth, if that makes sense. Like he is this fuck up, low class, unloved child of a geisha and he wants to be loved as such almost?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which is why his ending with Yuusaku hits as hard as it does because it affirms his innate self-worth, that he was inherently always worthy of love as he was. (That's why Asirpa awakened his guilt over killing Yuusaku because she also loved him for who he was. It's like he says, "Asirpa shone a light on me and now I can die.")

static by flavor foley blowing the fuck up is ironic but also very much on point. people will absolutely flock to a recognizable name a classic melody and the familiar sound of another horror vocaloid song reminiscent of the classics. of the nostalgic aesthetics of analog media and the tv static for when the wires are fucked and you have to slap the thing in a specific way for it to work. of another media depicting and criticizing the parasocial relationships we develop with celebrities and idols in this age, represented and reflected through the characters and their stories that we make that we slap onto these singing digital avatars that we. also have parasocial relationships with. have you seen the fame of mesmerizer and the amounts of lost media from early 2000s edits it got? of how it was almost instinctual for us to add neru in it because ohhhh it’s teto and it’s miku and it’s almost like that one old popular song from 2008 !!! of how many flocked to fortnite because they added miku in it and got to play her alongside godzilla like it was prophesied multiple video games in the past?? and how some were willing to ignore a bit of mcatrocities because they took a bunch of classic and popular vocaloid songs and proceeded to slap burger and fries on it??? 3 minutes later. never growing older never growing colder always be together now and for forever now and for forevevrvevrvevebeheuteteytwyer-

To me, I feel like Static, in the greater sense, is about a fear or change and the desire for things not to change to not lose those happy times that often end up becoming nostalgic. "Things are great as they are, so why can't they stay this way? Why does it have to change? Why must it END?" And at the same time, it's about the fear of being left behind and forgotten in a world that is always changing.
I'm sure deep down we've all had happy moments we wish would last forever or ones in the past we wish never ended. This song feels kind of indulgent to me because on hand, I know we that things can't stay the same forever. People change, places change, we change and if we stay locked in a memory that is forever already lost we'll miss out on the new good memories. That said it's probably normal to not like goodbyes or change. I'm pretty sure that's a normal thing that a lot of living creatures (including animals) experience.
This song feels like a break from the world in the best way. Like it's like Miku is telling us it's okay to feel that way sometimes it's okay to feel overwhelmed by all the change and listening to this song feels like you're taking a little break with her. And yet the uncanny nature of the song also implies you can stay here for a little while, indulge in the past, in the nostalgia, in this fantasy of a "static" (as in unchanging) world but you can't stay here forever. And Miku in this song seems to know that. She wants you to stay... but she can't force you to. Instead, she simply says to come by again if you need a break and she'll be there. That's where this song feels comforting.
Wanting to feel wanted, wanting people to stay, wanting things to never change are all normal desires... but we can't stay in a static, unchanging world forever. But we can take a little break.
Idk if this makes any sense this is just my take on it.

was rewatching the intermission montage sequence. ofc there’s the obvious jax implication but smth else. before the short scene with jax, pomni and zooble SERVING DAT ASS, there’s a short sequence of a bunch of Caine hands doing really weird signals. We know that in media multiple messages can be hidden via hands/arms, like static. Decoders I need yall to lock in with this one. Are those Caine hands spelling out anything? Like I wouldn’t even be bothered if he was doing like jazz hands or something but he’s curling his fingers n shit. Caine is you good??? Caine blink with your back teeth if you need help

ok I, know i just posted. HOWEVER!!!!! I wanted to talk about static (flavor foley)
this might be something everybody else noticed and maybe I’m just stupid buuuuut
the title of the song has a double meaning!!!! at first glance, the title obviously references tv static, which is confirmed by the album cover:
Tumblr media
but! static is also defined as “lacking in movement, action, or change, especially in a way viewed as undesirable or uninteresting.” (from google)
the lyrics also have themes of anti-change/fear of change:
“The world you know, always running to and fro A frightful place to be But don’t be scared, I’m not going anywhere! So just don’t touch the dial and stay here awhile with me!”
and
“Always be together, fair and stormy weather Never growing older, never growing colder Always be together, now and for forever”
there’s probably more lyrics alluding to anti-change, but these are just a few that stand out.
tl;dr: the song Static by Flavor Foley’s title has a double meaning, which is tv static and something that remains unchanged.

Just wanna say this: the High-End Hood should've been Shinomori's corpse.
Yes, it's confirmed Hood is some random fighter from the underground, but it just makes more sense if it were Shinomori at the base?? At the least, I think it'd be verrry fascinating
Although it might be a bit cliche, like if Kudo were Bakugo's ancestor, but it'd be a nice piece of trivia. It wouldn't have to be said outright. Like AFO losing Yoichi's hand cuz of All Might.
Endeavor just fights and kills Shinomori, a cute hermit that gave the rest of his life because of OFA, and Bruce's trust in him over said Factor. Even using his turn to build up strength, Shinomori was looking forward to the future too
A parallel of wanting to be the strongest is drawn between Shinomori and Endeavor. Even after death, the duty of OFA haunts even a corpse.
For why it makes sense if Hood were Shinomori;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shinomori and Hood wear the same kind of pants (Hood's is ripped, but he's a Nomu and corpse, so it makes sense). It even ends just below the knee. A colored version because I don't want to open the anime;
Tumblr media
Shinomori's desire to avoid the strongest (AFO) could've been tweaked by Garaki to look for the strongest instead
Tumblr media
Hood looking for the strongest person (hero) could even be Shinomori's desire to give OFA to someone strong enough to protect and grow the Factor. As a hero, someone trustworthy
Tumblr media
My [OFA Users are High-Ends theory post] for why Shinomori would be a good base for a High-End
AFO didn't know his face, so the High-End could've been named Hood to keep up themes. That AFO didn't know his face, and even now, he has a "hood"; Hood's face isn't visible beyond glowing features at first
Endeavor burned Hood and said to rest. This could've been Shinomori getting his cremation, and that Shinomori could relax (about OFA)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Endeavor said Hood is possibly Endeavor from the past or the future. In the past, Shinomori wanted to grow his strength for the Factor, so technically, Shinomori wanted to be the strongest. The strongest he could be, at least
The fact we know Shinomori underwent an autopsy, and that Garaki works in morgues to harvest corpses
Tumblr media
The knowledge that multiple Quirks kills the normal (not-AFO) person is found in Shinomori. Finding this out, this could've been the reason Garaki and AFO specifically use corpses for Nomus. That way, there's no life force to drain, and technically no drawbacks to the wielder
Garaki was alive during Shinomori's time. Considering these panels,
Tumblr media
This happens chronologically. AFO knew Bruce only had leftover embers (he could tell the same with All Might), which is why he looks so dismissive of his corpse. He's just wondering where Yoichi could be now.
AFO met Garaki after he killed Bruce. With all his followers and the way AFO is sitting, he's likely in search of Yoichi in Shinomori. But he never sees or meets the wielder. Thus the way he has his head down, as if upset and ignoring the insignificant crowds
That's why, when he finds Banjo, he's smiling. Yoichi is right in front of him again, after 18+ years of nothing.
Garaki was probably alive for all the OFA users. He's already looking middle-aged when he first meets AFO, and his Ability is just longer life. So he looks younger than he actually is anyway.
Since AFO faced all the previous OFA Users (sans Shinomori), AFO had access to their bodies when they died. Meanwhile, Shinomori ends up in the morgue anyway, likely by Banjo.
Tumblr media
AFO shredded Yoichi's body apart, so there's no corpse left. He killed Kudo, Bruce, Banjo, En, and Nana; but not Shinomori, who died of old age, or All Might or Midoriya, because they're still alive.
He has access to the corpses of the previous holders he killed himself, and left relatively intact. And Banjo may as well have given him Shinomori's corpse to figure out what killed a relatively-young, healthy man.
With access to those corpses, AFO and Garaki could've preserved the corpses of OFA Users to make High-Ends
(Maybe see this post where I elaborate why OFA users make great bases for High-Ends)

Yanqing and Yunli Appreciation Post
Keep Reading cut due to 2.4 spoilers~ (also relatively long-ish post)
These two bounce off each other so well! As a writer, it feels so satisfying to see their characters shine through the quest and the event in the way their interactions highlight them. So I'm gonna use this space to ramble about it!
My previous post pretty much talked about it already, but Yanqing!!! My son!!! I was quite worried that any potential arc for him would be shoved down the road or to the side due to the scale HSR has, but the game's been actually holding up to his ongoing arc. As a result, at least to me, he's come through as one of the best written/developed characters on the Xianzhou so far.
The nature of the length of the updates lets what we get in previous quests settle in for a long while, and considering the mentioned of flow of time in-game, Yanqing's had the time to think and develop as a person. The fact that so many players have had their view and opinion of him finally turn around in this quest is a testament to that. We get to see more facets of him, as in, doing his job and the responsibilities of doing so, and how his insecurities are mentioned in a main quest for all to see. He's constantly referencing others and his past encounters. You can tell that Jing Yuan raised him with his manner and approach to things, which is highlighted by the contrast to Yunli (will get to that soon).
His position as a child soldier has made him mature faster, be quiet even when he's been wronged (filial piety/saving face (aka thank you person on Reddit who makes the banger character Yanqing (and other characters in general) appreciation posts)), take a step back and have to be able to read the room (though, reasonably, he doesn't catch on all the time), and much, much more. The fact that other official content has described him as being more worried about diplomacy and all that. He doesn't have the luxury to be as carefree or brash for someone his age.
There's a lot to unpack there still, even with the development he's had now and that's good! If the Hoyo writing team was wild enough, it'd be cool to see them address the grayness of his role and Jing Yuan's mindset in raising him as he did (We love Dad-Yuan and he loves his son dearly no question, but it'd be so interesting to explore his flaws/mistakes in this perspective!).
Now onto Yunli.
I'm saying straight off the bat, I'm irritated by her!
And that's a good thing!
Her being annoying or bratty or irritating doesn't automatically make her a badly written character! She only would become one if they don't do anything with her, and HSR most probably will, and she should be given the same room to develop in her own arc.
She acts like her age, and she doesn't have the same pressures as Yanqing does. Just like how you can see Jing Yuan in Yanqing, you can see Huaiyan in Yunli, if anything he says is to go by. She's tempremental and outspoken to a fault, and based on the way how quickly Huaiyan relented when she talked back, you can tell that Huaiyan isn't as strict/stern with her to give her a sense of being humble.
I had this thought that she's technically what the general fandom viewed Yanqing as initially, and I'm not saying that as a 100% thing, by the way. But like by some traits and the vibes. She, of course, has a lot more nuance that will be explored at one point or another.
But back on topic, she's a foil. They represent two different approaches and lifestyles and can clearly learn from each other. Her inconsideration of the fact that she's on the Luofu but enforcing Zhuming practices (which I noticed people were upset by, and same; which I imagine is the point), her bluntness to no matter who she's talking to—there's a lot to work with here.
Just like with their swordplay, Yanqing could learn from her mental strength while Yunli can learn from his focused speed and defense. He can learn to regain a more firm grasp of his recently found purpose while she can learn to mature and take in her surroundings and be more thoughtful in that front.
Another interesting note is that where we are with Yanqing currently is in the middle of his arc, we've had the time to see him take a long route of struggle to get to this point, exacerbated by irl players views of him. He's in the middle of his growth and we've had since 1.0 to get to know him. But with Yunli, she was introduced very recently, so we're technically at the "beginning" of her character arc. In a way, Yunli now highlights how far Yanqing has come and changed, and in a way Yanqing now is a potential show for the arc that Yunli can have (not being the exact same as him of course).
I think the idea with these two is that they develop to be more balanced. Balance is such an important thing, especially in Chinese culture (Daoism (Yin-Yang), etc.), and 2.4 has shown how much potential they have to make for amazing character arcs.
It's cool that while they have such similar base traits, they're so different from each other. Calling Yunli a female Yanqing or Yanqing a male Yunli is simply outright incorrect. Their backgrounds, upbringings, ideals, swordstyles, perspectives, and positions in life are so distinct. I'm looking forward to their futures!

I did like Static's quick thinking in defeating Hotstreak in "Sunspots", but overall I was underwhelmed by the episode. While I like the concept of sunspots affecting Static's powers, it just struck me as odd how it played out (as in, I'm not sure discharging the excess energy would result in sustained lower levels if the problem was the sunspots rather than Virgil's usage).
More frustratingly, however, was how Virgil's academics and social life are suffering due to him prioritizing superheroics. This feels like a consequence to Richie doing what was likely meant to be a 'shoulder angel' situation in telling Virgil to do so, rather than Virgil himself creating this situation. It'll be very interesting to see if Richie continues this line of belief in the later seasons.
I understand the importance of using his powers for good, but I am worried that Virgil is going to develop an Atlas Complex about 'having' to be on duty as much as possible and/or start to base his self-esteem primarily off of his actions/role as Static. The second is what I'm really worried about being part of how certain later episodes can be analyzed as being a factor.
The next episode is "Pop's Girlfriend", which features Virgil having a brush with getting in trouble with a cop who turns out to be, well, his dad's new girlfriend. Which means the main conflict is more positioned as being about Sharon and Virgil being hesitant about the reality of their dad dating again. I do wonder if Robert would have handled things differently if Virgil's encounter in not wanting to show his backpack's contents had been with any other cop than the one he was emotionally attached to. Particularly as this character will only be making one further appearance in the show.
I'd be more concerned except for two things. One, a certain amount of working with the system happens with most superheroes especially in more idealistic media. This is all the truer for kids' shows from two decades ago. Two, I've gathered that the reboot comic touched on then-current events in a sympathetic light to Virgil and the other protesters. I haven't read it yet myself, as the plan is to read & review the first volume as as a celebration of me being basically halfway through the show once I'm done with season 2.
Starting next week (3/8), I'll be going back to something closer to my standard posting in regards to talking about "Bad Stretch".

Completely unrelated to the Bakery AU but I'm curious
How do you feel about SilverSilence14 and Aquaticnaho's Crawlout Through the Fallout fanfic?
Also thank you for giving the Blaze Rods love
They're jerks but they're my jerks 😆
Oh my gosh I have been meaning to read that fic for MONTHS and I haven’t gotten to it yet đŸ˜”â€đŸ’«
Maybe now that I have a ton of free time I can start it. Everything I’ve seen about it looks really good.
And absolutely, they may be terrible people but I think they’re interesting, and I would have loved to have known more about them and their relationship with Lukas. I firmly believe Gill Minecraft deserved better đŸ«¶
