SMxAD 31 for 31 2022 October 11 Movie: the Devils Candy Directed by Sean Byrne I thought this movie was had a cool premise, an excellent cast, and a plethora of heavy metal music and imagery(paintings in the movie were painted by Cleveland’s own Stephen Kasner R.I.P.) The end almost felt like an afterthought, but that is really my biggest gripe about this one. Meisterschüler-innen Ausstellung 2022 HGB Leipzig

Exhibition opening ceremony with a ceremonial farewell of the Meisterschüler*innen of the HGB, together with an award of the Student Prize funded by the G2 Kunsthalle.

At the beginning of the academic year, the exhibition traditionally brings together works from all disciplines by graduates of the Meisterschüler*innen program who successfully passed their exams in the winter and summer semesters. The works are the result of the two-year postgraduate course at the HGB, which deepens and expands artistic-practical and artistic-scientific skills.

The G2 Kunsthalle’s Master Student Award is being presented to a graduate for the sixth time this year. The prize is endowed with 10,000 € and a free studio space for 12 months.

The exhibition with 25 artistic/design positions is organized by Ilse Lafer and Stephen Stahn (HGB Galerie).

The reports of Stephen Kasner's death have been greatly exaggerated. While Kasner disappeared from the scene for several years due to health issues and the nightmare of what it's like to be uninsured, his work is healthier than ever. His ethereal paintings and mixed-media pieces, always prone to leaving viewers' jaws agape, are taking on new life at a fresh Hedge Gallery exhibition.

In magical tradition, thresholds are places of power, thus the threshold of day and night as the setting for this image. The King in yellow always struck me as a book that threads on the threshold, it leaves you in an in between space with its brief descriptions of the play, and how it affects its characters. It moved me to create suggestions, objects to populate that great unknown territory, and its my sincere wish that these illustrations helps you too in that journey. I created this illustration right after Cassilda's Song, hence the raven of Cassilda delivering the song to the figure. Of course, there is no such thing in the text, but again, its always about expand and explore where Chambers work will take us. The figure of the King as a bird is a nod to one of my favorite painters, Stephen Kasner, who uses birds as symbols of perfections. The feathers on the back are those of a peacock, because of the carnaval... KIDDING! Eight years ago, I heard that Stephen Kasner was having an exhibition of his work at a gallery in Manhattan. I became a fan of his paintings after he created some art for Integrity. I wasn't able to make it to the opening because I had a late class that evening, but the next day, I visited @lastritesgallery to see the exhibition. Not only was I blown away by his work in person, but I also loved the gallery and at that moment I thought, "wow, this is such an incredible alternative to all of the white-walled gallery spaces I've been seeing... At some point, I want to show here and it'll feel really fuckin' rad." Today, three new pieces of mine, including this piece, "A New Seed is Sown", will be a part of "Dark Nature" at @lastritesgallery along with some fantastic artists. And it does feel pretty fuckin' rad. Come hang tonight and celebrate the darker aspects of the natural world. (Zoom in on the piece to see all the little details.)
