Basically the premise is a Stiles-centered rewrite where Stiles is a new kid and he makes friends with Scott, but they’re not nearly as close and Scott is never bitten

Stiles is besties with Isaac and there’s some hinting at potential Sterek (opening scene Derek is 19 and Stiles is about to turn 17)

i said it in the tags of my other post but st*rek is about stiles SO much more than it is derek and that's why they don't care about the age gap. it's not seen as a personal well compatible ship for derek but it's seen as a hot older strong guy who defends stiles against everything and everyone (untrue) while stiles gets to be the badass 'spark' (kill me).

i genuinely think there are so few people who favor derek over stiles that ship them together.

like let's be real about it. hardcore stiles stans (not all) see almost every character as an accessory to stiles and derek is no different. you do not give a damn about him being in character as long as stiles has him as some sort of trophy.

that's why so much of the st*rek narrative is made up and has derek like. COMPLETELY treating stiles drastically different than he does in canon

(also why tags are scott mccall is a bad friend/alpha are called for. they completely alter scott and derek's bond to make room for stiles and derek instead, AND why pack mom stiles is a thing. they make honestly both stiles and derek out of character with this one, but also isaac erica and boyd, only ONE of which shows any sign of liking stiles at all enough to listen to him, and why they have scott join derek's pack instead of being an alpha, etc)

the derek hale deserves nice things tag is filled with st/erek and pack mom stiles with the three betas as if derek didn't end the show with a girlfriend he loves, a good relationship with his alpha, the ability to shift into a full wolf, and is apart of a pack that would always be there for him. as if two of those three betas didn't die and the other one didn't defect right before derek himself did and accepted scott as his alpha. as if stiles and derek could stand to be in leadership with each other without scott there.

Laughing through a wheeze which was rude by the way, Derek caught his breath. “Please tell me when you go to his place so I can video when he slams the door in your face.”

Later, there would be a door slammed in his face. Yet the boy did take the flowers Peter brought over as an ice breaker before doing so because Peter can be warming and Derek was not there smirking at him so he called it win.

Yep, challenged accepted. He would most certainly convince a certain omega to fake date him for a week.

I’m going to start this off by saying I love Sterek, and I love Stiles

But I will say that I tend to be turned off by teen wolf sometimes because it’s almost impossible to find Scott-centric teen wolf stuff and it bothers me??

Like if you search teen wolf on Etsy or redbubble for example, 90% of the stuff there will be stiles or Sterek. Sometimes even if you search “Scott McCall” you barely get anything for Scott

When you’re looking for fanfiction, finding a good Scott fic can be so hard, and you also have to really be prepared for Scott bashing in Sterek as well

And as someone who loves Scott, and other characters who are definitely under represented, it makes it really difficult to enjoy fandom content sometimes

As I finish up the latest installment of the 'Hop adopts Steve but make it sad' fic thing I have going I find myself making progress on my fics on AO3 under a different name. Haven't posted the latest chapters yet but I'm working through whatever blocks I had on those fics and should update soon.

Okay, so god knows the amount of ideas I have for a few of the fandoms I hold close to my heart. The main one as of right now being Teen Wolf.

So here's a list of ideas I had written down or just in my mind for a long while :P (BTWs, a few of these I honestly don't remember my thought process for them, even tho I included a bit of context for myself in my notes)

- Some sort of ceremony, maybe? With how sexual the music video or whatever is, the idea is lowkey a mating ceremony...in dance??? Like obviously not sex, it was idea of the ceremony was going to be more them exchanging the mating bites - Derek (the male role/voice) goes first in kind of seducing (dancing around) Stiles, then Stiles (the lady) would have his turn, and then both of them kind of seducing each other, aka dance together and are abt to bite each other - Interrupted by hunters??? Inspo from reading title "Wolves who cried boy" - 3 ideas that kind of combined and became a 5 + 1 idea [Sterek Fic]

1. Stiles isn't known by the pack yet. So when the 5 pups (I think I included Jackson???) spot him in different areas around Beacon Hills, they all go to Derek or call him to come over. But Stiles is always gone by then, including his scent. 2. A *Stiles and Derek are around the same age,* where Derek keeps finding Stiles in the forest/preserve and his family never believes him or something 3. The '5' being idea #1 and idea #2 as like a flashback for the 5th one, and the '+1' being when Stiles finally showing up to the pack house by himself or w/ Derek

Probably not the blog I should ask this on, but do you have any fic recommendations with a Scott McCall character study? Or a fic that's more Scott centric? I would really love to read a fic that has nuanced take on him 😭.

i wish i could help you with this. i've never really sought out scott-centric fic largely because i don't trust the fandom to write him lol. maybe that makes me stuck up or arrogant or gate-keepy but i often feel people misunderstand scott as a character one way or another. it's why i write meta.

besides i read primarily sterek fic and even then i filter out "bad friend scott mccall" and the scott bashing tags.

I need to thank you for opening my eyes to something as well as showcase reading a point of view matters, even if one doesn't realize it. The Stiles as the main character stories has flooded ao3 so much that when I started my own W.I.P I didn't even question the elimination of Scott. And even when I added him I didn't question my dismissal of him as important. Becoming a member of the Scott defense squad I see now that that is a very bad way to go. Even if the focus gets sift to Stiles as a main character it does not take away the fact that the main character is the main character and has importance. And unfortunately a trinkle down effect of reading so many stories that tell a particular story It causes the readers to have a mindset of what a character is like even if they don't realize why that character was written that way in the original piece that portrayed him that way. And even worse when they don't take in the source material it paints a picture that doesn't showcase the character in the best light. Even though I saw the source material and loved it It did not stop me from going down this route because of everything that I had read. So again I thank you, and the rest of the defense squad for opening my eyes.

Let me make things perfectly clear: there is absolutely nothing wrong with writing a Stiles-centric story. There are no ships involving Stiles that should not be written or explored. My involvement with End Racism on the OTW isn't because Stiles will never be my favorite character. It's because there is a vast majority of people who claim to be Stiles fans, Derek fans, Sterek fans, Steter fans, or fans of any other ship which involves white characters who are not actually motivated by those characters but instead by racist fury because Teen Wolf never pretended to be anything other than a story about a Latino teenager.

It's not about one story. It's about all of them together. It's about the fact that the OTW's policies for AO3 aid and abet a large part of my fandom to indulge in racist fantasies without regard to the parts of the fandom damaged by it, and they do so by hiding behind a screen of polite indifference and pearl-clutching about freedom. And from everything I've read and seen, it's not just my fandom.

Teen Wolf is simply the fandom in which I witnessed it. Look at that picture up there from Night School (1x07). It's a pretty classic horror shot, no? Now think of the majority of stories on AO3 where

Peter's murder sprees and selfishness are excused because of the fire.

Derek's terrible decision making and massive trust issues are excused because of what Kate Argent did to him.

Stiles's lies and outbursts are excused because of his mother's death and the nogitsune.

Isaac's brutality and indifference are excused because of his treatment by his father.

Yet, Scott is dismissed as 'whiny' and 'ungrateful' because he didn't immediately see being a werewolf as a positive thing. There was an untagged story yesterday which has Stiles wishing Scott would get his head out of ass and realize all that being a werewolf had done to him was cure his asthma, get a girlfriend and make first line.

What's the difference between these five characters? This isn't one story, or ten stories, or a hundred stories, but literally thousands of stories that contain these tropes.

Hey, remember when Peter literally beat Derek into submission and savaged Lydia to get Stiles to cooperate?

Remember when Derek tried to murder Lydia for something she didn't do and drive Isaac away by throwing glass at his head?

Remember when Talia Hale covered up her brother's and son's involvement in the death of a young girl and badgered a woman to carry her child to term?

Remember when Scott told Stiles that it was wrong to kill the victim of a mad scientist's experiments and lying about it and maybe he should go talk to his dad?

And yet, I can guarantee you that there is only one of those four alphas who is portrayed consistently as an obtuse tyrant. (Hint: it's not the white ones) And this isn't one story, or ten stories, or a hundred stories, but literally thousands of stories that contain these tropes.

And it's not just the lead. Let's take a look at how the fandom treats secondary characters on AO3:

Laura Hale (2 episodes): 8760 stories

Jenna Geyer (mentioned once; name is fandom generated): 617

Claudia Stilinski (1 episode; impersonated for 8 episodes): 3079

Derek Hale's Father (never appeared or mentioned): 843

Noshiko Yukimura (16 episodes): 470

Ken Yukimura (20 episodes): 261

Satomi Ito (3 episodes): 284

David Geyer (5 episodes): 351

See a pattern? You should. As I said, it's not one story, it's thousands.

No one's saying that you or anyone else shouldn't write fictions that focus on Stiles or Sterek or even stories where Scott is a terrible person. It's the trends. If transformation is what AO3 and OTW tout as their purpose, and that transformation is about variety and exploration, why is it always the white characters that get the benefit of it? When it comes to transformation, why do characters of color get erased, caricatured, or robbed of their narrative roles?

Don't tell me that it isn't damaging.

Do you know how many times I've encountered a person who entered Teen Wolf fandom through AO3 and Tumblr who believed that the characters of color are either terrible (such as Scott and Deaton and Braeden) or unimportant (such as Boyd or Mason or the Yukimuras)? More than I or anyone else should be comfortable with. But this is part of the mechanism. There aren't little racism fairies that visit people in their sleep; it's not a bacterial infection; it's not the work of a secret cabal. Cultural racism is maintained by institutions, and it is transmitted by institutions, and this is one example. OTW and AO3 are two such institutions.
