What do you think is the most character accurate fic you've ever read??
Ever read? That's an impossible question lmao. I have been reading fanfics since i was twelve. I have read fanfics I don't even remember 🫡
Obviously it's a subjective question to begin with but part of the fun of fanfic to me is exploring different avenues for characters according to different author's preferences and putting blorbos into incredibly un-canon Situations. But in a lot of those settings what is "in-character" is even more thrown asunder because it's so far removed from anything that would even remotely happen in canon.
I guess what I mean by that is a lot of the fics I read and love don't necessarily align with my personal ideas of/headcanons for a character, yet still remain "character accurate" in my esteem, if you will (I'm thinking, for example, of that one Gay!Roy fic which is EXCELLENT and incredibly in-character imo and yet I still don't personally think Roy The Character is gay. But even though that's generally not how I think of his sexuality I still liked exploring that alternative verse and still recognized that story's Roy as Roy. Does that make sense?)
ANYWAY. going to veer off the specific question and instead just list some miscellaneous recent(ish) favs (or at least ones I think were published after I made my last rec list):
Paperwork by @pghumfort (Roy/Jamie)
Tits Out! also by @pghumfort (Jamie/Keeley)
if anything could fall (it's the world that falls away from me) by scarlettroses (Roy/Jamie)
i came prepared for absolution (if you'd only ask) by scarlettroses (pre-relationship Roy/Jamie); I've definitely recommended this one before but it's SO good on character exploration, especially for Roy. really really complex and meaningful look into his brain. I love it.
I should know (what turns you on) by Dancey96 (Roy/Jamie/Keeley)
It's Fine With Me (if you wanna stay the night) by @shortcuts-make-long-delays (pre-relationship Roy/Jamie/Keeley)
screaming crying throwing up by @morethanslightly (Roy/Jamie/Keeley)
that four letter word by @izzyspussy (Roy/Jamie)
5 Times Phoebe Meddled in Uncle Roy's Love Life... by darkesky
An Invitation by Laurasaurus (Roy/Jamie, Roy/Jamie/Keeley, Roy/Keeley)
Not exactly Cyrano by @destinationtoast (Roy/Jamie/Keeley); I may have recommended this before but now it's finished!! go back and re-read it if you haven't finished it yet...it's so worth it!
Also the Gay Roy one I referenced earlier is so afraid that time will take it all from me by LikeAMovieIOnceSaw. Really such a lovely fic 💕
as always please read the tags and story descriptions and ratings before diving in to make sure they are right for you and your needs etc.

Whump Community, can we think about something together?
Listen, I know this is going to be controversial, and I’ll be clear: this is not a judgment, it’s not an attack, it’s an invitation to think about the dynamics in the Whump Community and in Whump as a genre. In no way, the ideas I am going to express are meant to shame you or invalidate your experience, I am talking about MYSELF too in this post.
Now.
Could we think about the fact that, maybe, we prefer male/masc-aligned whumpees over female/fem-aligned whumpees because we do have a huge amount of internalized misogyny?
Women are considered a subcategory of human beings, because socially a human being is a male. Women are able to consume and interact with movies, series, books, and stories that are often considered based on “the male experience”, but the same thing isn’t done by men.
Women’s emotions have always been policed, just think about the idea of “hysteria”, or lobotomy, which was often executed on women. If men can’t cry, women can’t be show rage, cry, be happy (Everyone hates fangirls and teenage girls), be horny, they can’t feel anything.
With that being said, isn’t Whump about empathy? Isn’t Whump about seeing a character that you care for, getting through extremely distressing situations, and being able to recover, and be loved?
So isn’t the justification of: “Women have too much on their plate already, so I’m not going to make them suffer” a bit weak? If we all get extremely angry when screenwriters or authors whump the “wrong character”, because “we have to whump the fav one”, why is the whumpee never a woman? Why is the blorbo who deserves to be whumped never a woman?
Is it because we all, cis women, trans women, AFAB people, have internalized the idea that men’s emotions are deeper, are more consistent, are more human? That in a way, the male experience is going to fulfill us in a much greater way than what a woman’s experience could ever possibly do?

Hello! I'm Capriclonus (or Cap/Capri, as most people call me). I'm 26, go by she/he/they pronouns, and I'm from England. Engaged to a wonderful lady. Previously life-is-chasefield. I'll mostly reblog BG3 content (particularly Shadowheart and Lae'zel) but I do tend to reblog a lot of shitposts too.
Important tags: ask box, ao3 capriclonus (updates about my works), shadowheart, dark justiciar shadowheart, shadowzel, fic recs, favs, relating to my work (fan art etc).
I'm an on-again-off-again writer who simply follows the whims of the brainrot. It's a noble purpose. I wrote a lot of chasefield back in the day. At the moment, I'm writing BG3. In reality, I'm writing Shadowheart. She is my only blorbo, I am in love with her, and she has me hooked heart and soul.
I have a few ongoing works and two complete ones:
Shadowzel:
Give It Up For DJ Shadowheart! Complete. Modern AU, very explicit and very fluffy. Fuck buddies to lovers dynamic. Lae'zel meets disk jockey Shadowheart at her friend Wyll's club. She's kind of given up on life, and certainly on love, but Shadowheart makes her question just who she is, and what she wants.
No Shadow Without Light. Ongoing. Dark Fantasy Medieval AU, currently M for depictions of violence and body horror, moving to E come a later chapter. Enemies to Lovers. Shadowheart is the damsel in distress, the princess in the castle. She longs to escape the walls she's stuck behind, but she can't ever escape her personal guard [dog] Lae'zel.
For Pluck's Sake. Ongoing. Co-author @dustybones! Modern AU, E for smut. Wine Aunt Shadowheart / Soccer Coach Lae'zel! Jen takes her nephew, Pluck, to soccer practice. She doesn't care for soccer, but soon she finds there is something to like about it: the coach.
Shadowtav:
Just Enough to Hurt. Complete, but being updated with one-shots. Based post-game. Very explicit and a heavy dose of kink. Oath of Vengence Paladin Tav cannot resist the pull to see Dark Justiciar Shadowheart. She knows she should, and a part of her desperately wants to move on: to love and be loved. But she sees the light inside her dark mistress, and she cannot bring herself to leave. Lots of angst and smut. Designed around the idea that, although Shadowheart clearly does love Tav, she can never admit it.
Just Enough to Hurt: Oathbreaker. Ongoing. Explicit for smut, kink, and depictions of violence. Based after chapter 5 of JETH, this fic branches from JETH and asks - what would happen if Tav broke her Oath for DJ Shadowheart in a show of devotion and protection? And how far would each of them go, to prove their love for one another?
i want your love (and your pain). Ongoing, kind of on hiatus right now if I'm honest. Explicit for smut, kink, and depictions of violence. Shadowheart and Dark Urge!Tav desperately want to be better. This is the story of them finding redemption in each others arms. Based during the game to flesh out parts I think could have used a bit more love.
Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day! (I don't know how to close this ok I've not done one before)

the silent one
he has been your fan since the start, the first time he laid his eyes of your 2d character design, your story, your everything captured him. he loves you from afar.. isnt really active but has a small pinterest board or a playlist of you that he silently indulges in. has no idea what selfships are but you’re a coping mechanism for him (sometimes). if you were real, he’d treat you so much better than the shitty charcter you’re stuck with. doesn’t pick fights online but wouldn’t hesitate if someone crossed a line. he doesnt realize but thinks of you more than a fictional character. probably is the healthiest out of the five. none of his irls know about his fixation of you and it would never see the light of the day. IF LOYALTY WAS A PERSON IT WOULD BE HIM. period.
nanami, rin, ness, levi, erwin, akutagawa + anyone who fits the criteria
the idgaf
he simps only for you. he has posters of you and is not ashamed. people know about you being his favourite character but he is scary so nobody can ask it about. has minimal/no online presence. but keeps signed copies of the mangakas. JERKS OFF TO YOUR POSTERS UNABASHED. he follows one fan account and prolly goes anon sometimes. heavily reads your smut or hasn’t scratched the surface you cant tell. YOURE NOT A CHARACTER, YOURE HIS FAVOURITE. ANOTHER ONE WHO DOENST KNOW WHAT SEFSHIPS ARE, BUT HEAVILY CREAMS THINKING OF YOU and has wild fantasies about you.
sae, aomine, shoichi, oliver, izana, kaiser(idk), baji, naoya, mikey, wc kunigami, ranpo + anyone who fits the criteria

Project Spotlight #4: The Ichorous Rot
Time for another project spotlight! Today, we're chatting with Sam from The Ichorous Rot.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your teammates!
@spinning-logic: Hey-o, I'm Charlie. I will be voice acting, sound editing, and assisting in some writing for our Podcast Jam entry! My first ever fiction podcast was Welcome to Night Vale (as it is for many, I'm sure), and my current favorite is pretty squarely tied with Malevolent and The Magnus Archives--though I'm truly loving Protocol too. I'm dipping my toes into hearing even more podcasts, like WOE.BEGONE and Old Gods of Appalachia. This is the first Podcast I've ever worked on, and hopefully what I learn from it will lead to creating more!
@moookar: Hi hi hello, I’m Mooo! I’m voice acting and writing. I’ve never worked on a podcast before TIR, but boy oh boy do I have lots of experience listening: WOE.BEGONE, Malevolent, and The Grotto are some of my current favorites, and I got started listening with The Magnus Archives and Dimension 20. Most of all, I’m just a fan of any speculative fiction I can get my hands on.
@gooboogy: I'm G! I do the music and some of the voice acting for The Ichorous Rot. I've been listening to audiobooks for ages and I listened to The Adventure Zone but only really started listening to audio dramas about a year ago with The Magnus Archives and Malevolent. It's not until I listened to WOE.BEGONE that I considered doing one myself! I don't have a fav podcast, but I have some fav characters such as Lucas Miller, Elias Bouchard, Kayne, and Ty Betteridge respectively. My fav genre is when Shit Gets Weird and I love it best when there's fucked up little blorbos :3
@fluxoid: Hey there! I'm Niall! I'll be doing some of the voice work for the Ichorous Rot. I've been listening to audio drama (and actual play) podcasts for over a decade now, starting with Welcome to Night Vale (of course). Current favorites are probably WOE.BEGONE and Midst, though I'm listening to many more. This is my first foray into the creative side of things and I'm excited to see where it goes!
@falloutcoys: Hello, I'm Sam! I'll be co-writing for The Ichorous Rot. I got started listening to WTNV in 2014 but really got into audio dramas when I picked up TMA in 2021. My current favorite pods have to be Midst,Not Quite Dead and WOE.BEGONE! This will be the first show I'm involved being published, but I'm writing my own passion project as well (@aboardtheichthyoid).
What's your podcast about?
Our project is set in 1880s West Virginia. Dr. Theodore Yates as he's overwhelmed in his duties as Janesville’s only doctor by a mysterious illness spreading through the town. We follow him through a combination of his own medical notes recorded on a wax cylinder, and snippets of audio following him and his best friend Alonzo as he tries to find a way to resolve The Ichorous Rot. It's a mystery that explores the effects of working class life and generational trauma through a supernatural lens.
What are you most excited about in this event?
This event has been such a great learning opportunity and way to collaborate with others! Everyone has had great ideas and we're able to bounce off each other and flesh out the story together, which is a really unique experience.
Any advice for other participants, or those on the fence about joining?
If you've been on the fence about joining, go for it! This is a really fun experience and it has the lowest possible stakes. Worst case scenario, you've met some great people and learned about producing a podcast. Best case scenario, you make an episode you're really proud of that grows into something much bigger.
While this team is no longer looking for new members, you can follow their project here on Tumblr @theichorousrot. Additionally, with a couple days left to sign up, there's still time to join the fun and work on a Podcast Jam project yourself - find out more information here!

Heey i have question that has been on my mind for some time now, this question is more what I heard not really my own opinion. But anyways is lancelot x tristan/ban x meliodas even good ship? I seen some many talk about how theos two ships are baf because for Lancelot and Tristan they have no real relationship in canon or what so ever. Coming to ban x meliodas they more like best friends. Is that true?🤔 I very cousfed if it rignt to ship or not.
hello!! okay im gonna ramble a bit cuz i love yapping about this kinda stuff and dont wanna clog up any feeds, so ill add a 'read further' here :3
i feel like its not very surprising that i do think both ships are good (especially melban). i think that for both of them- yes, they can definitely be read as just being friendships and nothing more than that, but i guess the charm of shipping and headcanons is that you can add in your own interpretations and additions which you think feel right :3
a lot of the interactions between mel and ban, for example, i read as being pretty homoerotic/gay. thats mostly because, as a gay/queer guy myself, i find myself relating a lot to the stuff they do together when comparing it to me and my bf, and also because they are my favourite characters and headcanoning them as being the same sexuality (and gender) that i am is like a little golden sticker saying "fav character" (godbless projection onto your blorbos).
in general, i think its pretty common consensus, at least in my circles, that ships dont have to stick 100% to what the canon says/shows, and you can always add in your own ideas or headcanons to create a relationship either between your favourite characters, or one which you think would be interesting to see, or just one which you think would provide a fun/interesting addition to the story. and in my case, its all of those - i really just adore the dynamic meliodas and ban have, and in addition to my gay reading of a lot of their interactions with one another, it just feels right and fun to ship them (this applies to lancetris as well, but to a slightly lesser extent/not exactly the same)
so yeah, thats my stance on it!! i really like lancetris and adore melban, and i think (considering how much reconning has happened on the fandom's part towards nakaba's,,,, decisions,,,,) it doesnt do harm to read certain friendships as having romantic or sexual under- or overtones
i also feel like i should mention that i only really ship lancetris and melban in separate circumstances, if that makes sense - like, i ship melban a lot harder than lancetris, so whenever i do make any ship art of them (lancetris), i think of meliodas' and ban's relationship like more of a qpr than a fully romantic one, just cuz i feel like it makes it better??? more likely??? less weird?? idk if im making much sense here, but yeah, so thats sm (i guess i also just wanted to state that to clear anything up, cuz i do know how having ship art of both lancetris and melban could come off as kinda weird to some, but idk, maybe im overthinking it ( ̄▽ ̄)")

🟨 Then n' Now - High Voltage edition ⚡
Yoinking @arcandoria's idea and making one of those before/after post focused on the babies💛 motivated by AND motivating @elvenbeard to do the same 😌🤏
This will be both a VP and Modding journey 👉
▶ December 2020
Tumblr media Tumblr media
━ "No mods, we die VP like men!"
AKA open up PhotoMode and get as close as you can to your fav, playing with angles while getting the camera stucks in the surrounding 80% of the time and trying to make the characters look at each others in a "natural" way 👀
▶ early 2021
Tumblr media Tumblr media
━ "I learned how to app swap and I cannot be stopped"
I got into modding because/thanks to Mitch 🤠 and the first thing I did was to .app swap him into all of the romance scenes 😩🤏 My BIG MODDER GOAL back then was to have Him and Valentin in the panzer scene, meaning I needed to find a way to:
Swap Valentin into Panam's place
Swap Mitch into V/Player's place
Unlock the camera / have a true free-roam experience
and also remove all of the HUD and green filter
I was just a tiny dude with Big Dreams 👀
▶ first half 2021
Tumblr media Tumblr media
━ "I can change clothes now! AKA OOC-fest"
Ugh. JHGFHJGHFJ
Looking back at some of the stuff I did before legit gives me so much icks now 💀 the joy and freedom of being a simp with fresh modding power, you just Do Stuff because You Can! Who cares if the character turns extremly OOC, right? keeping them for the memories 🤭
▶ first half 2021
Tumblr media Tumblr media
━ "ReShade? What's a ReShade"
My first month of playing around with Reshade! Everything was way too saturated, too bright or too dark- but it was new and exciting! Experimenting with more swapping, more photomode-posing 🤏
▶ July 2021
Tumblr media Tumblr media
━ "the Modding High"
Camera unlocks, Player Replacer, FixSwaps, Bi River trick, Blur Remover, Facial expressions for V, Swap to Everyone... my peak as a modder still to this day ngl
I achieved all I ever wanted, did the mods I needed to be able to smooch Mitch and have my canon panzer scene 🧡 (cannot showcase it here on Tumblr for hornyjail reason)
The "bi river" trick was involving CyberCat, an old save editor software that allowed you to swap V presets! You had to launch the romance scene with River as a fem V, then save at the start of it using the "Save Anytime" mod, edit your save file by swapping in your Male V preset, and Voila~ you had a Masc V in the River scene :D
▶ August 2021
Tumblr media Tumblr media
━ "Custom poses Fever"
...and the first true love kisses!
Searching and modding your first poses swaps, then spawning the blorbos in game, timing the expressions and animation correctly and... having them "kiss for real" for the first time 🥺😩 ouugghh IT HITS! It hits so good!
From there, the rest of 2021 was focused on playing around with custom poses and exploring my own canon; giving new canon-compliant appearances to Mitch and Valentin, doing VP comics... also exploring some AUs and doing special occasion outfits, like Halloween!
▶ 2022
Tumblr media Tumblr media
━ "I can create my own story"
I focused a lot on my own canon in 2022, via comics and photoset exploring what happens to both Mitch and Valentin's respective past and shared future together
Modding was also a big part of the year! There wasn't any big breakthrough other than the scenerid extract for custom poses, which allowed me to finally use the amazing tender animations from the Judy scene in my boys tent 🤭
▶ 2023
Tumblr media Tumblr media
━ "Still here"
There will always be new exciting way of exploring and creating content for my babes- the knowledge of custom made poses allowing us for even more angst, tenderness, passion!
and I'm looking forward to it all 🥺🧡
Those years's been a whole creative journey~ and it's thanks to those two, my blorbos, my beloved stinkies, that I'm the modder and photographer that I am now!
Who knows where they'll take me next 💛😊

HIHI uhh unstable-and-gay is one of my friends and my OTHER friend got me into WF, I heard from said friend that like. in order to truly get what the hell is happening in WF you Really gotta have a Guy Who Already Knows. I’ve only been playing truly maybe 1-3 weeks now (I tried before last year but it didn’t work for me at the time) lmao. my fav quest I’ve done so far is the Duviri Paradox, and I’m striving to become one of the maximum of 2 sevagoth mains lmao. I’ve been having a ton of fun with it so far and uhh. hi do you have any general tips for new players or like, any favourites you wanna rant about : )
HIHIHI! I will gladly rant to anyone and everyone about Warframe. All my tips are outdated because I know they changed progression but here goes:
Upgrade from the mrk-1 weapons if you haven't already. The regular versions can be bought for credits in the store.
Learn to mod! Modding works of percentages so you have to figure out what each piece of equipment is good at. Or just hit the automatic mod button and call it a day, that should get you through most of the game's story.
Whatever people say about meta basically only applies to endgame missions. Almost every warframe is viable for regular play if you know how to use them. THe one weapon I've found to be genuinly unplayable is the Stug, so tread a little more carefully around weapons.
Primes are nice to have, but not required. I am used to a time where Primes were far harder to get ahold of though, so picking one to work towards isn't a bad idea! Also, the one exception to this is Ash Prime. I don't care he's vaulted, he is genuinely easier to get then base Ash.
best way to get mastery is to rank up every weapon and warframe avalible to you. But also, the highest mastery you ever really need is 16, they stop gateing weapons after that.
Digital Extremes has the funiest fucking way of retconing lore. I don't know where you are in the game rn, so that's all I will say.
My favorite characters are the sentients lol. I cannot rant about most of them without spoiling the end of the game though. But uh, here's a list of my blorbos if you'd like more about any of these characters! Please include what quest ur on though, so I don't spoil you RIP. I also know everything about everyone else up until the most recent update.
Kaeli
Era
Natah
Cephalon Suda
Kullervo
Drusus Levarian (specifically his pre-Dante Unbound version)
but yeah my user is Spireofspring if you'd like to add me! It'll be awhile until I get online again, I've been on hiatus thanks to Destiny but Jade Shadows will make me reappear.

Do you have any writing advice for writing unreliable narrators? And if you could share some writing exercises you did/do to help get better
when I was first writing clinic I didn't go into it with the mindset I'm going to make tommy an unreliable narrator. It just happened because I was zeroing in on tommy's skewed perception of what was going on. his opinions shaped the narration, which led to the audiences perception of what was going on getting warped in turn.
when you're writing an unreliable narrator, you really need to hone in on what your narrator's opinions on everything going on around them are, and how that effects the narration they're telling. obviously if they don't know a key piece of information in the story (ie: in clinic tommy not knowing tubbo and ranboo are vigilantes) this can skew their perspective of what's going on (tommy knows that ranboo and tubbo are lying to him but doesn't understand why, he thinks this is unfair and starts to resent them).
another example of this is with stars. along with wilbur just not knowing phil's motivations at all, wilbur is also a deeply paranoid person. this colors his view of everything phil does. phil gives him a look across the table? wilbur assumes he's taunting him, when in actuality phil might've just accidentally made eye contact with him for a second. but wilbur doesn't know that, so the narration points out that phil gave wilbur a taunting look. did he actually? eh who knows. we're in wilbur's head, so it's his pov of the world we're seeing. every look, every emotion, every tone of voice that's described might not actually be what the other person intended, but it's how wilbur perceives it because of the way his emotions cloud his perspective.
so basically be extremely aware of what your narrator does and doesn't know, and how they feel about all of this stuff. think of how their perspective of the world might be altered because of the emotions they're feeling in that moment. just really dig inside your characters head, and the unreliable narration will happen on it sown
one of my favorite easy writing exercises I used to do was whenever I'd watch a movie, if I got an idea for an au fic of it even if I never planned on showing it to anyone, i'd write it. if it was just a specific scene from the movie I thought was cool and wanted to reimagine with my blorbos, I'd rewrite it with my blorbos. so if you see a cool movie or tv show, do a quick brainstorm and rewrite it with your fav characters. figure out how you'd describe the scene in words instead of watching it on a screen. if you want to practice a specific skill, you can focus on that using the framework of this movie scene you've already watched. do you want to practice writing imagery? go ham describing the scene. do you want to practice metaphors? come up with a metaphor tied to the scene and dig into it. again, these never have to see the light of day, but rewriting movie scenes like that helps a lot because you don't have to think about plot and most of the scenery and worldbuilding is already made for you. it just helps you practice some of the foundational elements of writing itself.
hope this helps!

I recently got back into witcher brain rot but all the tags are filled with people saying how shit the show is and how Cavil leaving is the end times cause he was apprantly the only thing keeping together the entire story where he is present for like 30% of the time, And its legitimately making me question my sanity. Like im fine with being obsessed with media thats objectively shit, hell most of my favs are absolute trash, but like TWN isnt perfect by any means but its not that bad right? Has all my media literacy gone out the window? Am i wrong for thinking this show is objectively good to peak mid? I feel like I'm losing my mind.
Yeah, it's a little goofy silly that it seems like so many folks have forgot concepts like
a) enjoying questionably good sometimes bad sometimes good media mostly for the community that can build up around that media (see: spn)
and b) not posting constant hate within the tags of the thing you now hate
Personally, I came to the Witcher universe through the show and came to enjoy several show-only elements of the universe, even though I enjoyed and prefer the story of the books. I wouldn't prefer a book accurate Dandelion or Fringilla or even Yennefer. I've gotten attached to the ways that TWN expanded or changed several character choices I disliked from the books.
Because frankly. The books are great! They're also occasionally the worst. They're not some literary marvel of the ages. They're good books! Entertaining! Have some deeply interesting characters and commentary and are very, darkly funny and are my favorite books, but there are sure as hell things I would change if I were to adapt them.
That's not to say I would adapt them anything close to the way TWN chose to lol but it's just a little absurd and telling to me that so, so many people seem deeply invested in a book series (or at least in the idea of their fave meathead actor liking a book series) that they rarely seem to have anything to say about except in the context of bashing the show
Anyway sorry, tangent lol personally I loathe the witcher netflix and also, I enjoy it dearly. I'll be as grouchy as anybody when they do some questionable shit to my book blorbos and situations, but I'll still be having a good time because I choose to.
The only thing that's really ruined my enjoyment of the fandom has been people with constant bad faith takes, zero media literacy, and people slurping at hcav's boots

Reverse Unpopular Opinion: French literature
dude this topic is so wide like? where does one start
i will, however, discuss my fav books i'd read for uni!! bc if i start otherwise there won't be any stops and i will get into periodisation which is... very vast as a topic lmao
friendly reminder i have a bookblr over on @eugenederastignac <3
molière: i love molière as a writer so much! his works are very timeless even if he was writing with the idea of his time in his head (as is expected) but the ideas he proposes are so valuable even today. he never makes his female characters marry the men their parents (fathers) chose for them, but always has them end up with the men they actually love. there's always a character of a wise servant, person of the people so to speak, whose wisdom supersedes that of their masters. he wrote plays to mock aristocracy, while his actual public was the very same aristocracy. he died playing the main character of a sick man in his own play, on the stage. idk much about his personal life, but that is irrelevant to my enjoyment of his work by and large. and also, idk what it says about me, but i find his comedies actually hilarious. (barring don juan, which is weirdly unfunny but also highly entertaining in its own way.)
the red and the black, stendhal: one of my fav books of all time. i am lowkey in love with the protagonist, julien sorel. but what draws me in is the way he writes - stendhal's style of writing is somewhere between the sentimentality of romanticism and harshness of realism, and has been dubbed subjective realism; it reminds of my own style, with a lack of description unless it's very meaningful, which allows for rich and powerful personalities to shine through. three main characters - julien and his two lovers, louise de rênal and mathilde de la mole - are all so wonderfully fleshed out. i love how julien's life is less shaped by the men in his life, barring napoleon, and moreso by the women. mathilde is a wonderfully written female character, even by modern standards and especially given the fact that the book was written in 1830. stendhal likes writing violent women and it shows, esp in the character of mathilde! i have seen people thinking julien may be some flavor of asexual too, although it's not a theory i personally subscribe to, and i can see where they're coming from. if that helps sell the book better, here it is.
father goriot, balzac: the book that helped me realize i was bastardsexual when i was 16. has the pretty, ambitious, morally questionable/morally downfallen protagonist, who is the name behind my bookblr! i've read that book twice, and every time i'm so in love with it. has some questionable social takes sometimes, esp on a gay-coded character, but it's centuries old and that's expected. it reads as a miseducation in a lot of ways and a corruption of eugène's morals.
the counterfeiters, gide: questionable writer life choices aside, this book's structure is truly a fascinating one. character work is amazing, and it uses a technique i like to use myself, which is letting other characters form the opinion of the reader about another! there are interesting writer interludes and opinions that never permeate the story, but they're there. there are dorian grey-esque gay themes that are not subtext, they're quite overt for its time, and there is an uncle-nephew gay relationship? other than that, i loved the realism of the characters' personalities, their well formed social positions, the ways they're all related to each other. best part is the diaries of the counterfeiters, notes gide made as he was writing the book, which show that he thinks of his characters as 1) separate from himself and doing what they think, not what he wants them to do, 2) what we would now consider to be an oc! a blorbo oc! his thoughts on art and writing are so interesting too and they DO permeate the story greatly, especially in edouard's diary :) if you can get through the weird structure of the book, it's absolutely amazing

CORT!!! thank you for the ask <33
🍈 Who’s your blorbo and what are some of your favorite headcanons/ideas about them that repeatedly show up in your fics? Free pass to rant about blorbo opinions.
is... is this my chance? my chance to ramble about sasazuka?
in case you're not one of the 14 people who've played collar x malice, it's a crime thriller otome about an organization carrying out terrorist attacks in shinjuku, japan. you're an associate officer in the shinjuku police department who gets kidnapped during a late night patrol and placed in a poisonous collar by the terrorist organization with one explicit order: to investigate the incidents building up to the incoming mass terror event, x-day. you are rescued from the initial encounter by a private detective agency. you must partner with them and their two police contacts to solve the mysteries of x-day and stop the terrorist organization once and for all.
takeru sasazuka is THIS bastard. he's one of the main love interests in the game and a member of the private detective agency investigating x-day. he's such a fucking asshole and i love him so much. problematic fav. my garbage man. sasazuka is the savant hacker and tsundere trope. he's very standoffish and kind of mean to the player but as the story progresses, he warms up to you. he's an acquired taste for sure but... idk. i could fix him. make him worse. be his plaything. idc. he's the type where i don't even want my friends to play the game bc i'm worried they'll think my big fat crush on him is toxic. girl i KNOW. he's an ass an yet i'm so into him. god.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in terms of fics, i... actually don't have any solid ones i've written for collar x malice. i have an oc x sasazuka fic somewhere on ao3 that i don't talk about bc, again, there's like 14 people in this fandom. i posted it on tumblr way back in the past and it FLOPPED so i took it down. but i do really like this game. i just don't have many headcanons that have actually made it to a fic. if i wrote more for it, i'd include some of the following:
despite the way he talks about his relationship with the mc and his preference for someone shorter than him, more submissive, etc. i do think sasazuka could handle someone a bit more his "speed". someone wittier, more likely to snap back at his quips and keep up with his personality, even someone who's a bit taller than him. i think he doesn't realize he's moreso attracted to qualities that make up for what he lacks: an outward resilence and optimism, skills in a domestic sphere (cooking. it's cooking. quit eating donuts and ramen jackass), and just someone who he can genuinely respect and see as an equal. while the game sort of frames it as "only ichika or someone exactly like her could be his type", i'd like to think he's more flexible on that front than he realizes
sasazuka has panic attacks and PTSD. he's someone that's very secretive and dismissive of his own mental health, but losing someone close to you to gun violence and then moving back to japan only to waltz into a massive terrorist crisis and weapon mandate is truly insane. i think it's not unlikely that he'd have more panic attacks and general PTSD symptoms than the game depicts.
sasazuka was born in and is ethnically japanese, but i think from living in america so long, he's got some western sensibilities. something that sticks out to me almost immediately is that hatred for matcha he has--that feels so american to me i cannot explain it. fuck that grass juice. i think he's more open to affection than the average japanese citizen bc he grew up in the us, which is much more open about affection. the food portion sizes come to mind as well. that man can EAT. it's not even so much certain things as it is just... vibes. i think he just has this energy about him from growing up in america.
🍌 In your opinion, what’s the funniest joke/reference/pun you’ve made in a fic?
being funny on purpose is so hard omg. i think a lot of the funnier concepts i have either stay in concept or end up being used in a way that's not outwardly funny, if that makes sense? i have a fairly dry sense of humor, so i don't think any of my works are laugh out loud worthy. for example, i think the "boys will be boys" headcanons i wrote for obey me are funny. same with random headcanons for the collar x malice boys that i can't stop thinking about for collar x malice. i'd like to think i'm funny irl, but oftentimes i find explicit humor hard to weave into fics.
(off of tumblr, will say a fanfiction concept i had was having a flippant 20-something in a house full of murderers frame her experience like it's the office. in a talking head, she laments that people around the house don't appreciate her enough, then it cuts to her setting off the smoke alarm by holding up a burning piece of paper to it.)
🍏 Is there something you overuse, whether it’s a certain phrase, trope, or piece of punctuation?
IF -- HAS ZERO FANS IM DEAD
in all seriousness, it's the em dash. idk why it doesn't autocorrect from the two dashes on tumblr, but. you get it. you see my soul. i literally have to pace myself and not use them too often in fics. i think it's just the perfect way to connect two thoughts. i love it. MWAH. em dash you will always be famous.
i can't think of any phrases i overuse in particular, but i'm sure someone could point it out to me and i'd see it immediately 🤡

5 Favorite Characters Poll (Tag Game)
Tagged by the lovely @meluci-fer, our chief @dual-domination, and my 2nd adoptive dad @sagittariusdarkarrow I'm done with my summer job and back with consistent wifi so I'll be back to responding to things and causing more chaos! :D
Rules: make a poll with five of your all time favourite characters and then tag five people to do the same. See which character is everyone's favourite.
Limited myself to one fav from each fav show so that it wouldn't be as much of a struggle jsksj
Since this is from over a month ago, I have no idea who has already done this game, so if you see this and haven't done it yet, consider this your formal invitation to join in if you'd like! :D

I literally love being head over heels for call of duty characters as I am because, realistically speaking, these guys are heinous war criminals guilty of severe atrocities and yet. And YET. They’re probably the least morally bankrupt of my blorbos. Some of which include:
-A lesbian robot gone rogue that killed everyone and kept only a select few alive for use as Guinea pigs
-A serial murderer responsible at least indirectly for the deaths of his own children and possibly his wife
-A misandrist vampire who eats people and literally bathes in blood while her daughters exsanguinate every woman they get their hands on
-and a full on bioterrorist supervillain whose plan was to kill so many people that the term ‘genocide’ doesn’t even apply because the death toll would have simply been THAT HIGH (My hubby I love him 🥰🥰🥰)
Long story short any bitches out there feeling bad for obsessing over fictional characters that are evil: don’t. That’s why they’re fictional! For us to put in a jar and shake until the brainworms are satisfied :)
oh man i JUST saw some shit pertaining to this Theme over on twitter, perfect timing
i also feel this way with like, MOST marvel/dc characters lmao. like Punisher? awesome. perfect moral compass, does fantastic things for the world, easily one of my fav street level vigilantes from marvel. but if he were real?? NO fucking way would i be okay with him just being Out and About. but he's NOT real so it DOESN'T matter lmao
any time there's discourse over enjoying things in fiction i just feel like im going crazy. this idea that if you enjoy something in fiction you simply must want it to happen irl is just. its soooo fucking stupid??? and also super limiting? like, you lose SO much art and literature (basically all of it lmao) if you say some bullshit like "you have to endorse this behavior irl if you're writing/painting/whatever it". why would you do that to yourself lmao

The Boys, choose violence 10, 22, 24 if you please. :D
From the 🔥Choose Violence Ask Game🔥
Thank you, @kosmochlor, for the Ask! Ahh, and I see we’re going straight for the jugular!! 🔪(⊙v⊙✿) These are just a few personal honest opinions written at 1:40AM. What I think does not apply to everyone. ♥️
10. worst part of fanon
Keyboard warriors. The morality police clutching their pearls. You know who I’m referring to; we always have them in every fandom. The ones who police who/ what you like and are obnoxiously loud about it and about how the characters or ships you find interesting are problematic and, lookie here, my [insert character they’d fixated on] never did anything wrong compared to your rancid skrunkly blorbo and I wish more fans liked my favorite character than [insert popularly liked character]. On the converse of that, I’m on two fences when it comes to Homelander stans. Thankfully most people are rational and like him because he’s an interesting villain (and, let’s be real, it’s powered by a side of fan thirst for the actor who plays him; it’s the typical parasocial relationship that fans develop with the celebs who play our favs/ or it’s just plain interest in the fictional character itself or the fun thought of that fictional fav being railed or doing the railing)—but I do have to raise an eyebrow when he is being stanned for all the wrong reasons (coughfascistallegorycough coughMAGAallegorycough coughSigmamalecough).
It’s a very interesting outlook to have as someone who isn’t as into Homelander as other people but still goes out of my way to read and write stories of him being shipped with his enemy Billy Butcher (listen, I’m your average law-abiding 28 y/o woman who works M-Sat 9AM-5:30PM and sometimes even Sundays and even overtime; sometimes on my limited free time I just wanna indulge and imagine about what it’d take to save the metaphorical world in this fictional universe—aka by having the two toxic old men f*ck each other and they can be two co-dependent psychos in love terrorizing the world together as a shameless power couple in a perpetual Ouroboros cycle of love and hate and self-punishment; obviously I do not condone this kind of relationship irl but within the safety of my imagination, we writers be playing god. It’s fairly obvious both characters are fated to have a bad ending in the show, especially if they follow in the footsteps of comic canon for a bittersweet ending, so let me have fun on my very limited free time writing my alternative Butchlander takes about these manipulative assh0les obsessing over each other and the fate of the world depending on how successful they are at gaslighting each other into playing a permanent happy couple).
22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores
Homelander is canonically bi in the comics. No, I’m serious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Spoiler alert: for those without context, in the comics, Soldier Boy was not Homelander’s father. In the comics, male Stormfront was one of the Supes whose DNA was reused by Vought to create new and stronger versions of the source material, so his DNA resulted in baby!HL’s creation no, comic HL did not f*ck male Stormfront; in a way, HL is kinda a partial clone of comic!SF. Whereas in the show, Soldier Boy was changed to be a super straight (?) alpha male granny f*cker who was later revealed in the season to be the sperm donor for Homelander. And Stormfront, as we know, was genderswapped in the show and changed to be Homelander’s girlfriend in S3. …There’s no confirmed Sweet Home Alabama vibes yet as of 2023 but there is understandably fan speculation for a reason.)
I believe the best way to put it: Homelander is generally attracted to women, but in later issues he reveals that he has a secret liking to men. Because he’s The Homelander; he can do whatever the f*ck he wants.
And let’s not forget this beautiful iconic scene the TV adaptation gifted to us:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now some personal opinion time: I also like the idea of him being a narcissist so he only truly loves himself. And others can come close (especially if he sees aspects of himself in them) but his One True Love will always be himself. It’s the classic Narcissus looking at his mirror reflection allegory—but now you mix it in with some complicated cocktail of a God complex, inferiority complex, imposter syndrome, self-hatred, and sociopathy or psychopathy and a hidden desire of wanting to fit in with the banal societal human norms of being accepted but always feeling left out on the other side of the glass wall looking in. Now you tie it in with him never finding anyone who’s “genuinely loved him” (by his own criteria) and has not regarded him as a monster to be feared. He’s desperate for that human connection, for that elusive “perfect companion” who will understand him and cater to him and put his needs above their own—and to him, finding that proves he’s not a freak of nature. He’s not a monster. He’s not a failed product. He’s not a pathetic excuse of a man that even Soldier Boy didn’t even want as a son. Vogelbaum—and everyone else just doesn’t understand. People love him, right? Vought and Madelyn have indoctrinated him into believing he’s the people’s hero—and how they adore and worship him and want to be him or want to f*ck him. How can he, The Homelander, a superior being with his perfect genetics who’s better, stronger, smarter and more attractive than anyone else (I hope you can tell I’m being heavily sarcastic here), go out on a limb and fail at finding this one intangible thing that ordinary mudpeople or his inferiors can find but he somehow can’t?
24. topic that brings up the most rancid discourse
It’s almost always political discourse particularly from extremely delusional right-wingers people who have terrible media literacy of what they’re watching versus what might be clear-cut to the rest of us—and discourse of whether or not The Boys (TV) is an objectively good show. All of these tend to go hand-in-hand together. I think what those people fail to realize is: the script is written by Eric Kripke, the showrunner behind the first five seasons of Supernatural—and then you have Stephen Fleet, lead VFX supervisor and show producer, who came out at the age of 43 (🏳️‍🌈). They’re adapting it from an edgy, dark, intentionally offensive-just-for-shock-value comic series written by Garth Ennis, the person behind Preacher and even a bit of the Punisher. The eight-volume comic series, which ran from 2006-2012, is full of racist, sexist, misogynistic, and homophobic elements (to be fair, GE wrote this as an intentionally darker satirical take on the superhero culture—and edgy shock factor is a writer’s strategy to make your work stand out). It was meant as a “dark, satirical commentary about the fictional superheroes—and, to an extent, the real life celebrities—we idolize, and how easily people with such power can abuse their responsibility” (source).
With what the TV showrunners had to work with, with the actual source material being a slog kinda to go through (the comics does have its share of good moments admittedly), as a whole I think it’s pretty impressive they’re able to update things to make modern social commentary which are relevant to us today (now, they can be admittedly a bit on the nose about it; one thing that stuck with me till now is how a writer friend I was watching the show with remarked how they’d thought BnHA did the superhero genre commentary much better) and somehow they were able to make a far superior TV adaptation just by paring down and changing a few things from the comics for the better so far (*knocks on wood 3x*). I will however always side-eye anyone who insist the comics is superior than the TV adaptation and loudly proclaim they won’t watch the show because “look how they massacred [insert comic character]” (now, to be fair, normally I would agree with this take but we’ve established The Boys (TV) is a special case; I would also understand if the comics had been the person’s first exposure and, hence, had become their fixation—but considering its intentionally offensive contents I am quietly side-eyeing them from the sidelines and keeping my mouth shut).
