On a more positive note as a fan of regular half life the hl2vrai trailer is so pretty and feels like a hl2 trailer for me
besides the obvious memes like Alyx smoking or The Giant Truck and chuck e cheese it is so fucking impressive and gets my half life brain rolling
The transition with the strider leg infront of the chuck e cheese was SO cool. hell taking the classic chuck e cheese map and making it destroyed with the citadel in the background. ive never seen a shot with a strider leg that close to camera. im sure someone else has done it but its So fucking cool
One thing they KNOCK OUT OF THE PARK is the lighting in the cinematic shots. oh my god
Breen sitting at his desk in that pose with the atmospheric lighting and the Breen statue bust (the sfm eyes always look a bit odd and super bright but what can you do)
Kliener/Bubby(?) in the dark with just the screen illuminating him
The shot of the combine in the foreground and the two others searching civilians in the bg
The guy in his bar wiping the glass illuminating out of the ground
RAVENHOLM OH MY GOD RAVENHOLM IS SO WELL LIT. I am interested in what the giant green jelly bean thing is.
and the MOVEMENT of the characters too. The guy stumbling when the headcrab shell lands. Alyx leaning against the wall. The guy getting beat by the circle of combine. I know its supposed to be haha funny thats way too many combine for one guy but the close up shot of him is SO impressive. and they edited his texture to have scarring and bruises and a missing tooth!! they did the effort!! THE TWO GMEN. UGH SO GOOD THE MOVEMENT AND LIGHTING. I mean even the giant truck!! the way it moves and the way the camera moves and the way the smoke moves and the way the seagull reacts its all so fluid
The over the shoulder shot of coomer on the train. in this lighting. with this music. The HL1 model looks SO correct. it doesnt look out of place at all. it looks NATURALLY out of place. he is not supposed to be here. but the lighting works so well on him.
This is half life 2 trailer quality for a jokey web show im so impressed

Darius watched the trees blur by, only being smudges of faded green in the void of the night.
“It's quiet.” He said, his voice breaking the solemn silence that drifted through Ben's van, his eyes flitted over to the man driving. Ben looked different, defined.
“It's night, and we're on this.. Secluded, creepy ass road.” Ben snorted, keeping his eyes on the road in front of them. He was right – it was pretty eerie, not even the wind was howling to move against the trees, no bushes rustling. Just the soft hum from the van. And their breathing.
The first thing Darius took notice of when he got into the car was the T-rex smeller hanging from Ben's rear view mirror. Cute. Was the first thing that came to mind.
The drive was mostly quiet, with some small talk. Awkwardness was choking Darius.
“So, how's your life going? Therapy going well?” Ben broke the silence – his words pierced the silence like a spear. He glanced at Darius from the corner of his eye, before skimming the road in front of them again.
Ben had always cared about him. Frequently checking up on him, even bringing him a few trinkets. Who couldn't love him?
“S’fine. Pretty boring, actually. You?” Darius chuckled, leaning his elbow against the car window, turning his head fully to Ben. He couldn't help but skim over Ben's features.
Darius' thoughts drifted back to Nublar – “I love you, bud.” – He shook his head slightly, shaking that thought out of his head. But he couldn't deny the heat creeping up to his face.
Even after six years, he couldn't rid himself of those feelings. He couldn't shake them off.
He opened his mouth to say something, before closing it. What could he say?
He was snapped out of his thoughts when Ben spoke, he wished he hadn't asked.
“Me and my partner – actually, we went on a hike,” He smiled, recalling the thought.
Oh.
“Oh?” Darius asked, hoping Ben hadn't picked up on the crack in his voice. His eyes stung a little, the all too familiar salty water gathering up.
“Yeah – we…” The words were filtered out of Darius' head, he turned his head back to the flurry of woods they were passing by, his vision blurry, head spinning.
He swallowed the lump in his throat, sliding a hand over his mouth to muffle any noises.
Of course. it's been six years, of course he wouldn't… he couldn't finish his trail of thought.
And it was then – he still wished he was on Nublar again. Where it was just them – and no one else. Just them.
His heart throbbed.
“That's.. that's great, Ben.” He said with choked words, staring out at the blur of green. Maybe if he hadn't isolated himself, maybe if things went differently… maybe if -
Maybe in another universe.
