Nobody plays Kind Hearted Woman like him.
In this video we explore the original 1936 recording of Robert Johnson's song Kind Hearted Woman. This version has a lot of incredible character that has been diluted over the years. While other popular versions of his song are fantastic, I hope this step-by-step walk through shows you just why nobody out there plays Kind Hearted Woman quite like he did.

Jayce shares a well-kept apartment just off campus with two of his closest friends, Caitlyn and Mel. It’s a far cry from the Zaunites’ place—cleaner, quieter, maybe a little too polished at times thanks to Mel's influence—but it’s home. The three of them ended up together mostly by circumstance, but at some point, they stopped feeling like just roommates and started feeling like family.
Caitlyn has been in Jayce’s life for as long as he can remember. Their families have been tied together for years—her parents’ investments helped keep Talis Stringworks running, and in return, the Kirammans have always had access to the best instruments money can buy. That arrangement extended to Caitlyn’s education, too; her family is the reason Jayce can even afford to go to school, something she waves off every time he brings it up. He pays her back in small ways, maintaining her violin for her while they sit around talking about nothing, falling into the same easy rhythm they always have. Caitlyn is sharp, steady, and has always been in Jayce’s corner. She was the first person he told when he first questioned his sexuality, and she just rolled her eyes and said, “Yeah, I know. You didn't know?”
Mel is their other roommate, though calling her that feels weird—she’s too vital to just be a third name on the lease. She’s a fine arts major, mostly oil painting, though she dabbles in everything. Her mother, Ambessa, wanted her to go into politics, but Mel chose passion over practicality, throwing herself into her work with the kind of self-assurance that makes it impossible to imagine her doing anything else. She and Jayce had a fling once, back when he was nude modeling for the art department to make some extra cash. It was fun, and the sex was great, but they weren’t in love, so they called it for what it was and stayed friends. Now, she loves to torment him in the way only a best friend can—specifically by keeping a few paintings from his nude modeling days and conveniently leaving them out whenever she knows guests are coming over, just to watch him blush and stutter.
The truth is, Jayce has always had the strongest women in his life. Caitlyn, who has never let him feel alone for a second. Mel, who has always seen him for who he is and never let him run from it. His mother, who taught him the value of hard work and how to be proud of the things he builds with his own hands. Every step of the way, the women around him have been his foundation, the people he trusts the most, the ones who hold him up when he starts to doubt himself.
Between the three of them, the apartment is full of music, the scent of oil paint, and the kind of friendship that makes everything else a little easier.

Kontusion — S/T (Sentient Ruin Laboratories)
Tumblr media
youtube
For anyone looking for an alternative to the sanitized versions of death metal being celebrated by the culture industry and some of its agents (here and here), Kontusion’s debut EP might be just the thing. You get four songs, about seventeen total minutes and absolutely no fat on it — likely the band ate that themselves. What’s left are OSDM essentials: thick, nose-breaking riffs; production that’s hugely effective in direct proportion to the sodden layer of scum on it; just the right balance of disciplined musicianship to a gonzo appetite for really terrible sounds. It’s pretty great.
Kontusion originally circulated as a self-released cassette (thanks to Sentient Ruin Laboratories for giving it a wider release in multiple formats), and listeners might have been surprised by the intensity of the music’s worship of muddy, malodorous death metal. The musicians involved — Chris Moore and Mark Bronzino — are more widely known for their work in hardcore and powerviolence bands, like Iron Reagan, Coke Bust and Magrudergrind. But the players nail it with their work for Kontusion: Bronzino’s stringwork is big and beefy, and when he opens space to shred, the results are pleasingly deranged; Moore’s drumming is always looking for new ways to make the songs weirder and wilder.
Hence, perhaps, the EP’s pleasures. OSDM is hard to play well — unless one happens to be a member of Suffocation or Obituary or another band that actually emerged in the ferment of the late 1980s. You have to work within some now-venerable sonic conventions without cynically rehashing old, moldy, meaty matter or too emphatically aping one’s knuckle-dragging idols. There are some traces of early Convulse and Terrorizer, but Kontusion is cutting its own channels through grind-adjacent death metal’s stinky corpse. Check out “Blood Church,” the shortest track on the EP and perhaps its most unhinged. Just when you think you have caught the rhythm, Moore shifts patterns. Bronzino gamely flays his instruments, and likely his digits. It’s utterly familiar and completely present. One could call it “fresh,” but this is death metal. The music is rotten and awful, just like we want it.

Bro im teasing my girlfriend by describing how id tease her if i was there, stuff like oh id be drumming my fingers if im holding something or waving my hands while im talking and just so happening to flutter my fingers
And then i go or maybe i pantomime instruments, more stringwork than strictly necessary, or a piano midair that’s definitely more jazz paced than classical
And she goes “WAIT THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED” i went “OH????”
And she explains her friend did the floating instrument trick, only then used an actual guitar
1 - amazing work guys, 10/10 no notes
2 - that was 100% effective so whoever did it you had flawless execution
3 - i will definitely be using this now and will definitely go “hey i wonder if your friend’s gonna do that the next time you call too”
4 - mission accomplished we have Flustered the Extremely Ticklish Lee

20+Names That Mean Puppet: Witty and Playful Baby – Impeccable Nest
Here are some traditionally male names that translate to meanings related to a puppet:
Struk is a Slavic name meaning "puppet". While uncommon today, it recalls a simpler time when entertainers would perform puppet shows to bring smiles to villagers. Much like a puppet needing its puppeteer, we all rely on others for support in pursuing our destiny.
👨‍🎨 Another name is Marion, related to French marionnette for puppet. A man named Marion would no doubt have a creative spirit, deftly maneuvering situations while guided by his own stringwork. Life presents us all as puppets to fate occasionally, though by recognizing our power of choice we move from passive to active roles.
笠 A name in German is Bärbein, meaning bear-legged in reference to traditional hand puppets. A man called Bärbein would showcase a lighthearted charm and ability to see past surfaces. Just as puppets portray characters, we all have depths within worthy of being expressed authent

Nithe —Funeral Death (Caligari)
Tumblr media
The Norwegian miscreants in Nithe seem to like referring to their music as “death thrashing black metal,” a phrase that’s not quite as stupid as “melodic metalcore” or as brain rattling as “blackened emoviolence.” But we might drop the “death” and “black” from Nithe’s self-applied descriptor and just roll with the thrash. One of the standout tracks on this EP—the third release from the band, all of which have been demo-quality short, sharp shocks—is “Primordial Ooze (Mother of Woe),” which will have you flashing on 1985 and the glory days of Metal Blade Records, when that label was still generating interesting music (Hell Awaits, Animosity, Raging Violence—a pretty good run). Some things change.
Thrash metal, on the other hand, doesn’t change much, and its faithful listeners seem to like it that way. Speed, snarl and stringwork suggesting the pleasures of sweat-soaked spandex: these are the subgenre’s verities. “Chains of the Abyss,” the first track Nithe hits you with on Funeral Death, provides the speed and snarl in impressive degrees of intensity. The textures just about justify the “death” in the abovementioned phrase, but really, the song isn’t so far from the antics of SOD—though the dudes in Nithe seem to mean it a bit more seriously. Even more satisfying are the shouts of “Death! Death! Death! Death! Death!” in (yep) “Funeral Death.” Things get fairly caustic in the second half of that song, which has a committed sense of sonic violence.
It may be that “thrash metal” carries with it a whiff of compromise, given the term’s association with Metallica and Big 4-period stadium spaces. Death and black metal bands have played massive arenas and festivals, as well, but those subgenre tags retain crucial semantic links to the metal underground and its gatekeepers. Funeral Death is an underground affair (demo style, on a label the slogan of which is “Only true music is real”—chew on that for a sec), and it’s likely the dudes in Nithe would rather be condemned to decades listening to Van Halen’s 1984 than don spandex leggings. But drop into “Primordial Ooze (Mother of Woe)” around the 35th second and tell this reviewer what you hear. It’s the mid-1980s all over again. Sounds good, on any number of levels.
