so instead of actually buckling down yesterday and prepping for my OA for this internship, I procrastinated even more by *spontaneously deciding to host my webapp* 😭😭
see it at anisa.tech (i love my domain name so much i think its so cool!!!)
Tumblr media
Quick demo:
Study Time/Focus Time/Proportional Pomodoro (can't decide on a name) is a sort of Pomodoro style timer, except you have the option to focus for longer (or shorter) than 25 minutes, and when you decide to have a break, it will be proportional (25:5) to the amount of time you focused for. So if you work for 40 minutes it'll give you an 8 minute break. But you can also do a set break if you don't want the proportional break. I also just like knowing exactly how long i was working, which is why i added the total time when you extend your timer.
I built this because I love using pomodoro timers, but I sometimes get so focused and skip my 5 minute breaks, or even skip the long breaks. I'd end up working for a couple hours straight and when I'm finally ready for a break, it gives me a 5 minute break 😑 So then I'm like, "no way, im taking a longer break" but then I take a several hour long break and feel bad for taking too long of a break.
It's not completed by any means, theres a couple bugs still and TONS of features i still wanna add. Like adding the long breaks, or the option to change the focus:break ratio. And dark mode. But its functional for the most part, at least for my purposes. **Edit: oops actually I forgot I the functional code is in a branch that I wanted to clean up before merging to master, so the actual functioning version of the timer is not what's being shown on my site. I'll get that fixed soon.
honestly i only decided to host it yesterday because i actually use this timer a lot, and im tired of having to open vsCode and launching Live Server lol. I'm hosting using aws S3, which is free (or free for 1 year, idr) but that's why there's that long chain after my domain. If i knew it was gonna add all of that i probably would have just payed the $20 for a year of hosting somewhere else lol. Also using Deployhq to update the site after a Git push.
anyway check out anisa.tech if you like productivity timers :)

➺ suguru x gn!reader
if you set a timer to nap suguru will absolutely sabotage you.
let me set the scene. you're getting comfortable laying on his chest his arms secured around you and your eyes closing with a content hum and then suddenly your like 'oh hold on' and grab your phone to set a timer then promptly explain that you have something to do so you don't wanna oversleep during your nap and end up losing time.
but you're so tired, he knows a short nap won't be enough rest though, he says nothing. you get comfortable on his chest again, your cheeks smooshed against his skin and doze off shortly after thanks to the soothing hand at your back and head and the warmth of his skin. when you're asleep this man will fully just grab your phone and cancel the timer, that way, you get all the rest your body needs undisturbed and wake up when your ready.
if it's assignments or notes or anything really that he can do for you, then he will do it for you. taking neat concise notes for you, or finishing up your research paper. no this is not a violation of academic integrity because you are his baby. you are his person and he is yours so to anyone else you may as well be the same person, and anyway he isn't plagiarizing or cheating. suguru does a really good job actually.
when you wake up later, dry eyes slowly blinking away the sleep and readjusting to the light. the skin of your cheek turned pink from how long it's been resting against him softly greeting him in a small raspy voice. when you wake up enough to realize the timer hadn't gone off and reach over to your phone to check the time, the sleep leaves you so fast. you're frenzied, panicked, confused. as if you've been splashed with cold water. suddenly awake and upset about all the time you had wasted what about the timer? how are you supposed to finish everything now?? only for you to find everything done and neatly organized for you to look over, anything with a tight deadline? already sent in.
oh. well.. now that you have nothing that urgently needs your attention (besides him) you can lay back down on his chest and continue where you left off 🙂‍↕️

I think I probably need to limit my tumblr time a little bit over the next month or so. I feel like I'm wasting a lot of time sat here scrolling and it feeds into the downward spiral of "do nothing productive -> hate myself for not doing anything -> hating myself is draining so I have no energy to do anything -> do nothing productive -> ..."
It's not like I've been posting anything of any quality lately; just occasionally shouting to the void. I'm sure after a little break I'll feel much more up to being a functional langblr again

do you have any tips for a clown like me to stop hyper focusing on hetalia and start being an academic weapon ?😔
anon I chose my minor based on my favorite hetalia character that i’ve been obsessed with for over 10 years, I’m the last person you should be asking this <3

Popular Study Methods I dont like
(By Jay)
A list of study techniques that dont work for me at all. But study methods can work amazing for one person and then just complicate studying more for another. If they work for you, awesome, i'm happy about that. These are my personal experience with them, a lot of people wont relate and thats fine, people are different. But if you relate why these common/popular methods dont work for me, know you arent the only one and that there are more options. People might tell you "this method is amazing, you should do this" and there for you is shit.
Memorazing
Avoid this. Yeah, I know I said it's subjective but this is the exception to the rule. When you memorize you dont learn. You cannot conect concepts because you dont understand. One thing is memorazing formulas, which is nessesary, but memorazing everything doesnt work. Understandment is way better. Yes, we need to remember and storage the information in our memory, but memorazing is different. Knowing the theory word by word is shit if you cannot explain it in different words, connect it with other concepts or put ut in practise.
Flashcards
Yep, studyblr favourite study method. Bear with me.
For me, it is a really passive way. When i make the Q&As of the flashcards, i remember the answers. I dont think. I associate the words. And then, when the test has the questions phrased different, my mind goes blank. It seem liked i learned because i remember but i wasnt actually learning.
Now you are probably thinking "use it for vocabulary". That doesnt help me either. Maybe it helps for knowing the meaning in a reading, but writing? I cant remember the spelling. For learning to spell a word i need to write it down. Use it in a sentence. Reading it over and over doesnt do anything.
All-nighters
Oh god, there is nothing worse than an all-nighter. One all-nighter will ruin your sleep schedule for weeks and tired=learn less. Plus, too much all-nighters lead to burn out.
With better time management, all-nighters wouldnt probably exist, or at least, be reduced by a lot
Also, as someone with chronic migraines, an all-nighter'd only give me a week straight with only terrible pain and i prefer failing a subject than that (i'd had to learn the hard way that lesson. always prioritaze your health)
Pomodoro
It's a little bit hypocrital of me to put it here, as I usually reccomend it to others. But personally? It just de-motivaties and stresses me. (disclaimer: it is a good technique, thats why i recomend it even if it doesnt work for me).
I'll explain why. The only way i can do a lot of productive stuff together (or just a long assignment) is to "get in the mood" or have like a "streak". I usually have to power through the first 5-10 minutes of studying and then i get super motivated and do a lot until my brain asks for a break. When the timer rings, it breaks it and i have to repeat the rutine again. It wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt that i work 3 or 4 times faster when i motivated than when i am powering through.
Also, having the self-impose deadline of a pomodoro (i know it isnt technically a deadline, but for some unknown reason, my brain processes it as one) makes me nervous and gives me anxiety. Just knowing the timer is going to go off anytime un-focus me. It's unnesesary stress.

TLDR: 30 minutes on (studying), 10 minutes off (break) has been an incredibly productive mode of studying. Very similar to the pomodoro method, without the longer breaks
new study style i'm adapting is like the pomodoro method. except i'm not doing the longer breaks part.
30 minutes on, 10 minutes off, until i'm ahppy where I'm at, or I finish what i'm working on.
The timer app I'm using is sessions, and you can tag types of sessions. I have a 'Studying' session for just more relaxed study, or studying til I'm happy sessions. Then i have a 'GRINDSET' session, which is made for sessions until it's done.
The other bonus of this app is that you can set it up with app limiters, so while a session is going, you can't use distracting apps. which i need, because I have a habit of picking up my phone and having a quick (half hour) look at some social media scroll. I'm less tempted to look on my computer (even though I'm making this post from my computer...) (mainly because my phone's setting a little too far from me and i'm not bothering to reach for it).
anyways, I'll check in again soon. hopefully I have this essay finished by that time.
