How's duke Su different in the books from the show?
Short answer: perhaps we can consider novel!ML as the person drama!ML has liked to imagine he is
Long answer:
original flavor novel Duke Su is not gonna be caught crying a single perfect poignant tear for NOBODY
the man is cold as a chinese celebrity's career who hasn't paid taxes in 10 years
infamously gave a lukewarm review on novel FL's original self, the city's Most Beautiful (3 1/2 stars: attractive enough but no X factor)
(note: novel!FL was a calamitous beauty in Life 1, not the Most Talented. She was super talented but was conforming to convention and hiding her brilliance to fit the role of a proper official's wife)
(this bland review is not actually a point of resentment for FL, whose POV is, 'yeah fair enough, you could call me overrated')
(the Jiang Li's body is not Shockingly Most Beautiful like in Life 1; she doesn't miss being outrageously hot, as it was mostly a nuisance)
Duke Su is still dramatic af and lives for theatre
Still loves fans & gorgeous clothes (the man wears butterflies on his cloak) (he loves beauty so much he only staffs exceptionally attractive servants and has elite gardeners to ensure THE MOST GLORIOUS FLOWERS IN THE DUKE SU MANSION ONLY THE BEST FOR THIS LORD)
(like I really must emphasize how little chill novel!ML has: at one point FL notes that a new resident rented down the street from the Ye family, with hot ass servants and blaring opera non-stop, it's clearly Duke Su for some godforsaken reason)(and she's right)
Still suspecting FL's identity and amused at her bravado
But has zero inclination to ease her pains or preserve her life
Before FL gets to the mines subplot to come rescue her dad, he has been just sipping tea and enjoying the show (despite her fucking up a couple of his plans - he loves a good public play and tbh he is confident enough not to be pressed about some minor deviations)
he doesn't reach out to lend a hand until she FORCES him to act
By loudly exposing to a group of assassins that Duke Su has obviously been plotting a long game in the shadows for years to destabilize and split the court, raising Wang Chang, the Princess, Li family, Jiang family et al to gain power & fight each other and trouble the throne - so Duke Su becomes the 1 most powerful & trusted councilor to the emperor.
(Yes we have a Story of Kunning Palace situation here, where the drama adaption tweaks the ML's motives and aims so he's going in the same direction but is pro-emperor instead of scheming & manipulating for his own personal interests)
Duke Su was ready to literally watch FL be horribly violated & murdered, but then she spilled the tea and he had to drop bodies to destroy the evidence
He's gonna kill her too but like in a quick & polite manner, he's a gentleman
But she was super understanding about the whole situation and so he ended up hearing her out: how about just let me get my revenge first? Very convenient to you, here's a suicide voucher, could we come back to this at a later date? 2 to 3 good plays included. xoxo
Now he's got a voucher for 1 (one) strange teenage girl
Who doesn't appear to be a teenage girl.
She's also completely won over his sidekicks.
This is gonna take a lot of fans.

Something that been on my mind
Warning: there maybe some grammar mistake in this cause english isn't my first language and also iam not an analyst or theorists or anything is just that I just want to get this out of my mind
The new bsd manga cover is out and I just realized something
The upside down pose of atsushi and if I remember correctly what happened in volume 21 is equivalent to "sh*t is going down" and if iam right then volume 24 is a manga cover for chap 105 to 109 (unless there another chapter coming out but it will be in September so i just gonna put it like that) also equivalent to "things are turning to the worse" kinda like volume 21.
I'm not an analyst or anything but it will be great for someone to do an analysis on this
It just atsushi is being upside down in the volume manga cover lately and there have to some hint for it cause harukawa art always have meaning or some parallel for something
Also if I remember correctly there are a tarot mayoi card for atsushi and his cards is the fool
(Credit the art to the game bungou lost tales)
I remember someone already did an analysis on this card so I'm just gonna link it later
So here is the meaning of the fool
- UPRIGHT: (new) beginnings, freedom/free-spirited, adventure, travel, originality, innocence, foolishness, carelessness, idealism, youth, spontaneity, lack of commitment.
- REVERSED: recklessness/risk-taking, carelessness, negligence, stupidity, distraction, apathy, irrationality, lack of fun/hope/faith, holding back.
With what is going on in the manga and atsushi upside down pose in the new manga volume I gonna go with the reversed one
The lack of fun/hope/faith are what is currently happen in right now in the manga and the holding back thing is kinda related to how atsushi have to hold back so he can't hurt akutagawa (it in chapter 108) i guess but the other I'm not so sure
Like I say I'm not an analyst it just when I see the new manga cover my thought just spiraled to this
And here is the link to the analysis about the tarot mayoi card
We also need someone to talk about this too
(Credit the art to harukawa sango)
This is the new illustration art of harukawa and the first thing that I notice is why fukuchi scar is yellow the same color of atsushi eyes and fukuchi scar here is like a claw mark however maybe it was just a scar when he was fighting with the ability experiment "werewolves" or the semi-immortal ability user "wasp" (it in chapter 82) but why the claw scar is yellow and atsushi eyes is also yellow here so that gonna mean something
I also see a post talking about this too
And here
Also I hope that you guys still remember that the DOA still have the page right
And they gonna write on the back of the page at the next full moon
(I don't know what time it is in the current chapter but I guess it not the day of the full moon yet)
The real question is why DID they chose the next full moon they could have chose any day but why (I did see some questions about this too)
Now what are the thing about full moon that we are all know about
Yep that's right atsushi ability
I also want to add this: "he was actually transforming into a white tiger under the moonlight due to his ability" (Credit to wiki)
And who is holding the page right now- yes is fukuchi
But is he really the one holding the page, I see some post point it out that the page is blank or quite clear like it didn't even have any word on it so we have another question it is really the page
We also see another person shroud by darkness and writing on the page
We don't know yet if this person is affiliated with doa or fyodor or they are someones that haven't been revealed yet or the creator of the book itself
So is the page that fukuchi holding is just a decoy(a fake page?) And the real one is being keep at somewhere else because it is something that are super valuable, and you can't just keep it on yourself all the time cause what if something unexpected happen
Does that mean that there are gonna be some connection revealed or an answer to some questions that have been unanswered or just a foreshadowing for something that gonna happen later in the manga
I guess we just have to wait though cause I remember a translate of a interview with asagiri and he say that doa arc is not the end and there are going to be a "order of the clock tower" arc but I'm not sure.
(And also resolve some mystery about atsushi cause he have so many hole in his backstory and there so many question about him that haven't been answer)
P.S: I want to write more about it but my mind just got overload-like I was having a very bad headache and my eyes feel kind of sleepy
Also did I do this analysis (theory) post as the same time as the the other one- yes (you know what maybe that the reason why i was having a headache i mean doing both analysis(theory) at the same time can leave you quite tired), do I really need a break- yes...maybe it just I have so many to do right now and I really want to but my mind just blank so yeah I might take a break

The moment in The Princess Royal ep 26 where Li Rong and Su Rongqing are standing outside court and for a moment everyone else disappears...
For once, I felt like the drama was at least trying to captured the novel vibe between them that I found compelling.
The 'old acquaintances' who used to fight on the same side, him her faithful lieutenant, but became diametrically opposed. Su Rongqing is mild mannered & proper in public, unfailingly considerate to his Highness in private, but also a silent, sharp knife in the dark.
The flavors of their relationship:
Chapter 127
"Your Highness."
Li Rong was about to listen closer when she heard a smooth voice ring out from behind her. Li Rong was so frightened that her whole body almost jumped up, but she instinctively restrained all body movements, and after a moment of stiffness, she slowed down, smiled and looked back, and saw Su Rongqing standing not far behind her.
His hands were folded in his sleeves, and his expression was devoid of sorrow and joy, as calm as if he were a god and Buddha without any semblance of emotion.
"Lord Su," Li Rong pretended that nothing had happened and smiled, "what are you doing here?"
"This is the property under the name of the Su House, to accommodate the students who have recently been unable to afford to stay at the inn," Su Rongqing did not ask Li Rong what she was doing here, but only said, "Your Highness is lost, do you need this servant to guide you?"
"Yes," Su Rongqing gave a step, of course Li Rong obeyed, only said, "then please Lord Su."
Su Rongqing nodded his head and turned sideways to ask Li Rong to pass first.
Li Rong followed the direction he gave her, and Su Rongqing followed behind her.
It was not far, not half a step away, just as in his last life, when he was still her slave.
After Li Rong had taken a few steps, she felt a little uncomfortable. She paused in her steps, turned her head to look at Su Rongqing, pointed ahead with her small fan, and simply said, "Doesn't Lord Su want to lead the way? Go up ahead."
When Su Rongqing heard these words, he looked at Li Rong steadily.
His hand was clenched into a fist in his sleeve, but he kept his composure.
Li Rong smiled lightly and looked sideways, only asking, "Lord Su?"
"This servant," Su Rongqing's voice was a little muffled, "I dare not overstep my bounds."
"Your Excellency is only guiding the way, how can you overstep your bounds?" Li Rong smiled gently, "Now that you are the first son of the Su Clan and the Right Servant of the Ministry of Justice, you are not a servant, so there is no need for you to be too formal."
As Su Rongqing listened to Li Rong's words, his face turned white inch by inch, each of Li Rong's words, each word, seemed to be scraping against his heart.
--
She had wanted to ask something, to spy on something, but when she saw Su Rongqing, she suddenly lost her interest.
She somehow had the feeling that if she asked, Su Rongqing would answer.
But if he did answer, she didn't know what to do.
...The two of them were halfway silent, instead it was Su Rongqing who asked first, "Won't Your Highness ask something?"
"What is there to ask?"
Li Rong walked out of the alley with him and simply said, "If I want to know, I will go and find out myself. It's not hard to guess what you want to do."
"Your Highness is always frank." Su Rongqing replied smoothly, and Li Rong smiled, "If I ask you anything, there will only be one time left."
Su Rongqing looked back at her, and Li Rong put her hands behind her back, "Either I die, or you lose."
As they spoke, they walked out of the alley, and when they exited the narrow alley, Li Rong waved her hand, "I don't need to see you off, Your Excellency, I'll go on my own."
With that, Li Rong turned to leave, when Su Rongqing suddenly called out to her, "Your Highness."
Li Rong stopped walking and turned around, only to see Su Rongqing standing in the crowd looking at her quietly.
Su Rongqing stretched out his hand and performed the same salute that he had performed in his previous life as her guest, and said, "Go well."
Chapter 136
"You are not hiding anything from me."
"Rongqing does not dare to deceive Your Highness."
Su Rongqing raised his eyes and looked at Li Rong with a calm expression. Li Rong met his eyes and she stared at them for a long time.
There seemed to be no difference between these eyes and the previous life, and Li Rong could not help but laugh out loud, "Have you deceived me any more?"
Su Rongqing paused for a moment, the moment those words came out, it was as if both of them were standing in front of the thin veil, they could see the other's vague form, but they could never see the other clearly.
If either of them took one more step forward, they would be able to tear the veil away and see the other's face.
But no one knew whether the face was hideous or beautiful like a fantasy.
Su Rongqing raised his hand to hold the cup as he took a sip of the tea that had long since cooled.
The cold sensation calmed him little by little, and after he had calmed down a little, he said in a slow voice, "Does Your Highness resent me?"
Li Rong thought for a moment, she smiled to herself, "What resentment? I am not as good as you. And I am willing to bet."
"It's just that I want to know," Li Rong wrapped her chest in front of her and spoke in a low voice, "Can't you stop?"
I've come back to my life, I've avenged what I should have avenged, and I've put away my grievances, so what else is there to hold on to?
Su Rongqing looked at Li Rong as he asked, "Will His Majesty stop?"
This 'His Majesty' was not just referring to Li Ming [the emperor], nor was he just referring to Li Chuan.
What he was referring to was every monarch who sat in that position and had ambitions.
The nobility had grown so much that no ambitious monarch could keep them. And while the Shangguan family, the emperor's mother clan, could still escape, the Su family, the head of the entire Jiangnan lineage and the first in the clan tree, had little chance of getting away with it.
Su Rongqing could see clearly, and so could Li Rong, that Li Chuan's violence towards the Su family was not only due to Qin Zhenzhen's death. What Qin Zhenzhen had shown was the horror of the power of the noble families, while the fall of the Su family represented the last glory of the nobility's great summer.
Li Rong could not pull Li Chuan, or even any other ambitious monarch, out of the way.
Su Rongqing smiled, "Your Highness, I have no choice of path."
Chapter 144:
She knew Su Rongqing much better than Pei Wenxuan does.
Su Rongqing had been working for her for many years, and his style of work was completely different from Pei Wenxuan's.
It was just that he had been working under her for a long time.
It's just that when he was always under her, she deliberately suppressed him, so Pei Wenxuan couldn't notice the difference, but she knew it too well.
All those details buried in the past, which she had told herself not to care about over and over again back then, would come up clearly in this life when she saw him on the opposite side.

The Heads of Mulinee Clans
Each Clan is led by one representative, either elected by their peers or trained by the previous Head. They are expected to keep the well-being and wishes of their flock in mind when voting and creating the laws which govern the Mulinee body.
Aqui Virye leads the Clan of Aquila, small and scattered as they are. Though many find him a quiet sort, his people have their complete trust in him, even if at times he may do things untraditionally, taking no Right or Left, though he claims it’s more to do with the fact there is no one around to assist. The most open minded of the Heads, he is the first to welcome outsiders into their fold, making many consider him a bit more naïve. When not taking care of official matters and tending to his people, he can be found visiting his daughter Aya.
Tor Kola leads the Torja Mulinee of the Torajan Jungles. While it is common for many Torja to become necromancers, Tor Kola is considered their best and powerful example, though a bit rather unnerving and enigmatic. They consider it their prime duty to assist the Dead as well as the Living, and instructs others in their craft when not tending to business. Many also rumor that before they had become the previous Right of Torja, they had been an assassin sent to kill the previous Tor Belol, though Tor Belol denied this claim and would dismiss any further questions.
Su Mori Al leads the Surna clan, who make their home in the Dry Steppes. She is the youngest of the Heads, and the most rather headstrong. To convince the Mulinee of Surna of change, one must convince her first, as the people of Surna hold tradition to the highest esteem, only second to gold. Once she is convinced however, she is the quickest to adapt and implement methods for the rest of Surna to do the same. As she was not trained by the previous Su, she relies heavily of her Left and Right of Surna, and consider this a weakness for the Clan, though they will not outright say this, as she more than makes up for it by constantly working.
Ki Kanol is the eldest of the Heads, and his leadership approaches the record for longest in the Kiga Clan. As one of the group that slew the Bloody Mother Flemythan, he is given much respect by all Mulinee, even if they think he is a tad…eccentric. While he may be convinced easily to welcome newcomers to the Kiga, none have been able to convince him to get rid of the fake beard, not even his late mate or his daughter. Eccentricity aside, his wit is as sharp as ever, and many are surprised on how well informed his is, no small thanks to his Right, Chialnaoth. When not attending to official matters and business in the Heart of Kiga, he is found at the Outpost in the middle grounds of Fornis and Kiga territories, and loves entertaining the pups with stories of his younger days.
While not officially Head of Clan Fornis, Pris is considered the de facto leader when her father Ki Kanol is not around. Many Fornis appreciate her level-headedness and know that she carries their best interest to heart. At the time of the death of Fo Forna, she was not considered ready to take the role of Head of Forna, by both her and her father. Thus, the Fornis clan merged with the Kiga clan, though is still recognized as it’s own clan. When not assisting in Clan matters, she leads the Fornis Scouts at the Outpost, protecting it and the families that reside within.
