Is Subaru not being able to taste anything an effect of being a child from incest? I remember reading someone where that he can’t taste foods that’s why he doesn’t have a favourite food

In a scene from CL, Yui and Kou give him a garlic dish in an attempt to bring back his memories, since they know he hates that taste (same, Subaru, same), and he gets startled and states that he won't eat that garbage, lol. I know that in vampire media garlic can kill vampires but in the DL universe, Subaru just doesn’t like the flavor.

As far as I recall, he also enjoyed when Reiji cooked some meat?

General prologue

Seiji Komori, adoptive father of the protagonist, Yui Komori, works for the church. He just got urgently transferred to Europe, leaving the protagonist alone in Japan. He gives Yui the address of a distant relative who is also related to the church, and asks her to go live there while he works overseas. When Yui gets there the next day, she is surprised to find out that there’s a house there known in the neighborhood for being haunted.

The entrance door opens by itself, and upon entering the mansion, she finds a man sleeping on a couch. She approaches to speak to him, but his body is really cold and his heart isn’t beating. She tries to call an ambulance with her cellphone, thinking that the person’s dead, but he suddenly wakes up, blaming her for being noisy and not allowing him to sleep inside of his own home.

Ayato: “I was doing what? Is there something wrong with me having a nice nap at my own house?”

The man pushes Yui down and they struggle on the couch, but they’re stopped by a second man entering the room. As they chat with each other, Yui hears the name of the first person she met upon entering— “Ayato”. They don’t let Yui run away from the mansion, and although she introduces herself and explains her situation, the last man to enter, who introduces himself as “Sakamaki Reiji”, claims not to be aware of the supposed arrangement with Yui’s father.

Reiji: “Eh? Living here? What’s all of this about, Ayato?”

Two unknown people enter again, who for some reason lick Yui and describe her as a “delicious human girl”. Neither of them are aware of Yui’s father’s plan, and they seem to be called “Laito” and “Kanato”.

Reiji: “Laito, don’t you think that’s a bit improper towards a lady you’ve only just met?”

Laito: “Hm~? You’re stiff as always, Reiji. What’s the big deal? I’m just giving this delicious looking lamb a little taste~”

Kanato: “Hm…It’s sweet. She’s surprisingly delicious for being just a mere human.”

Two more people show up in the room, and they all begin to fight each other. In these conversations it’s revealed that all men inside the mansion are brothers, with “Subaru” being the youngest brother, who seems to be pretty violent. The last brother to appear, “Shuu”, claims to know about Yui’s story.

He also tells Yui that all the brothers are Vampires, which upsets her, who tries to contact her father through her cellphone. Seeing this, Ayato takes it away from her, and Subaru breaks it, leaving Yui with no way to communicate with her father.

Kanato tries to drink Yui’s blood forcefully, and she tries to stop him with a rosary, but Ayato informs her that all “weapons” known against Vampires like crosses, garlic and holy water are merely a myth, and does not affect them at all.

Yui: “H-Huh? Vampires are supposed to hate crosses, garlic and streaming water…”

Ayato: “Which fairytale did you learn that from? It’s bullshit.”

After this, Laito also tries to suck her blood by force, but Yui declines it, saying that she wants to choose who’ll be the one who can do it.

Reiji, Subaru and Shuu seem to dislike her comment quite a bit, not demonstrating much interest in Yui, while the other three brothers, Ayato, Laito and Kanato argue amongst themselves about who she’ll choose.

HAUNTED DARK BRIDAL- Prologue PART 3

Yui ran fearfully through the strange mansion, praying that God would help her in her dire situation. Suddenly a male with blonde hair and smooth blue eyes appeared before her eyes. “Hey,” he says, “You’re so noisy, it’s annoying.”

Yui stuttered at his sudden appearence and says, “A-are you also with those people?”

“With them? Being told that is really upsetting.” The man replies. Yui stuttered out some more, trying to keep the man talking so that she could somehow understand her situation. “If I was forced to say something,” the man continued, commenting on his relationship with the other males in the house, “I’d say there’s an undesirable, but inseparable, link between us.”

Yui is curious about this link and probes, “An undesirable but inseparable link?”

However, the tired looking blonde ignores her questions and decides to ask one of his own. “Are you the woman that guy talked about?”

Yui doesn’t understand, for she doesn’t not know who “that guy” is.

“Hey, Shu! You know something about her?” Ayato appears and asks.

Shu pauses, seemingly unsure of what to say. “Well.”

Kanato also appears an is irritated at Shu’s lack of words and information. “Not “well.” I’d like you to explain the meaning of this neatly.”

“There... Came a message from that guy the other day. “She’s your housemate, be as nice to her as you can,” is all he said.” Shu explained.

Ayato found this incredulous. “Ha? So the house that Breatless was talking about before...”

Laito now appeared as well to join in the conversation. “Aha! That’s like finding a ship when you need to cross, isn’t it?”

“So it seems that it was no error after all.” Reiji commented, appearing just as the others had.

Yui couldn’t believe this. “You’re k-kidding!”

Ayato found Yui’s disbelief amusing. “I~diot,” He teased. “There’s no sense telling a lie is there?”

Yui shook her head, still in denial that this ominious mansion was actually the place her father wanted her to be. “B-but isn’t it strange? My father is a member of the church, and the church sent me here.”

Shu did not share in her confusion. “Isn’t it okay? Being sent here by the church?”

Kanato also did not find her arrival in his home strange. “What is strange?” He asked.

Yui wasn’t sure what to say. “Well, isn’t it obviously weird? I m-mean you’re...”

“You’re what?” Ayato probed.

Yui stuttered, trying to find the words to explain how she felt about these strange men. Shu interrupted before she could find them though. “Because we’re vampires?” He asked.

Yui was taken aback. “Huh? V-vampires?”

Ayato nodded in agreement. “Uh-huh. You just spoiled it.

“S-spoiled you say,” Yui’s words trembled as she spoke them. “I don’t really understand what you’re saying.”

Kanato was annoyed at her confusion. “Isn’t it just like that? We are beings called vampires. Nothing more, nothing less.”

Despite them all telling her they were vampires, she still couldn’t believe them. After all, vampires didn’t exist. They were mere creatures of fairy tales. “You’re kidding right? V-vampires? There’s no way...”

“You’ve said “you’re kidding” many times already since just now. That is unpleasant. Ayato said it too, there is no reason for us to tell you lies.” Reiji commented with annoyance.

“B-but...” Yui insisted.

Liato chuckled, amused by how baffled the young girl was. “Well, well, little bitch. You don’t want to admit it right? The existence of something like us?”

Subaru was now here, deciding to add his own words to the mix. Much like Reiji, he was annoyed at the girl and her hard-headed mind. “It doesn’t matter if she admits it or doesn’t admit it. You’re annoying.”

Vampires...That... No. They definitely just enjoy teasing me. There’s no way something like that could exist. Anyway, if I don’t talk to father and ask him about the truth... Cellphone, cellphone... Yui began searching for her phone. 

Ayato noticed Yui searching frantically for something. He fished out the little device the girl had brought with her. “Hey, is this what you’re looking for?”

Yui gasped. “That...! My cellphone! Give it back, please!” 

Ayato chuckled as the short girl struggled to retrieve her phone. “What should I do?”

“Cut it out!” Yui pleaded with the red-haired vampire. “You can’t just do with it as you please!”

Ayato’s eyes narrowed, still holding the little device out of Yui’s reach. “What’s up with that tone? I was so kind as to pick it up for you. Is it your idea of good behavior to treat someone who is helping you like that?!” 

Yui gasped at Ayato’s harsh behavior and said nothing. 

“Hey, Ayato.” Subaru said calmly. “Give that to me.”

“Huh?”

Subaru clicked his tongue, annoyed. “Hand it over, I said!” Subaru ordered, snatching it from Ayato’s grasp. 

Yui’s looked at her phone clasped in the firm grip of the pale-haired vampire now. “H-hey, what are you planning to do?”

“I’ll do... that!” Subaru said, crushing the phone in his fist. Yui cried out with surprise. “You’ve been so annoying since you came here.”

The cell phone I just got! H-he broke it! “You’re awful!” Yui yelled.

Laito shook his head sadly. “Now, now, little bitch. Since you are going to be friends with us people of the night, there is no need for things like a cellphone, right?”

Yui began to get angry at the chain of events. “W-who... Just who are you all!?

Despite her anger, Kanato calmly asks, “So, will you be leaving this place?”

Yui seethed with anger at the gall of these men. “Isn’t it obvious? I said I won’t rely on you, I am leaving!”

Kanato smiled slightly. Ahh, so it’s like that? Well, that’s just right, isn’t it?”

Yui creased he brows in confusion, coupled by her anger. “Just right?!”

Kanato continued calmly. “You know, since before, I’ve been starving...”

“So?!”

“Are you really an idiot? If a vampire says he’s hungry, there’s only this, right?” Kanato asked. He then proceeded to push the frail girl down on her back. She cried out at the sudden action. He pushed me down? 

“Wait a moment, Kanato.” Ayato interjected. “In these kind of things, the oldest comes first!” 

Kanato laughed at Ayato’s interjection. “What stupid things are you saying? There’s nothing like that... right?” He paused. He turned his attention back to Yui. “It’s to late to regret it now, you know? Your blood seems very sweet and delicious.” Kanato snickered. With that, he opened his mouth leaning forward to Yui’s pale neck. H-his fangs... are touching my neck? “I’ll drink without leaving any leftover. Okay?” Kanato stated gently. 

Yui began to panic. What should I do? Oh, right! “W-wait a second!” Kanato paused, looking at her with question? “E-eat that!” She screamed, thrusting out he rosary at the lilac-haired monster. 

Laito began to giggle loudly. “Little bitch... You’re so entertaining! You have a rosary with you?”

Reiji huffed, “You are the kind to prefer classic methods, aren’t you? How ridiculous.”

Yui’s eyes widened with fear and further confusion. “H-huh? But, vampires are supposed to hate crucifixes and garlic and running water...”

Ayato scoffed. “What kind of fairy tale is that? Useless.”

Yui blinked and yelled out, “I don’t want someone who seems like a fairy tale character to tell me that!”

Kanato sighed. “This is getting annoying... the feeling of my feast and dining table becoming chaotic. Why are you doing this?”

“A feast you say...” Yui started out slowly. “Don’t say absurd things! I’m a human you know?!”

Shu sighed as well. “Annoying. You see, humans are a feast for us. Haven’t you been licked?”

Ayato agreed. “You really are an idiot.”

Yui shook her head and said, “I won’t accept the existence of vampires!”

Laito tilted his head and frowned. “Hmmm. That’s a bit sad, you know? Little bitch, so that you will admit our existence after all... There’s no other choice than doing this right?” Just as Kanato had done, Laito pushed Yui down and prepared to eat. 

“I-I understood! I understand, so wait a second!” Yui cried desperately. 

“Don’t wanna.” Laito chuckled.

“Don’t wanna you say... M-my blood isn’t that cheap you know?! I mean, the, the person who sucks my blood... I want to choose him myself!”

Everyone looked at her strangely. Well, I just said it to make them stop. 

Reiji shook his head in disappointment. “How displeasing. I do not know what kind of blood you have, but... aren’t you playing yourself up like a high class prostitute?”

Subaru rolled his eyes. “Useless. Isn’t that okay though? Let her choose if she wants to choose.”

Ayato was surprised. “Oh! It’s rare that you’d participate, Subaru.” The pale haired boy just shrugged in response.

Reiji smiled a sinister smile. “I guess it is so. It’s been a while since I’ve had a woman without manners.”

Kanato tilted his head. “If you don’t choose me...” He turned his attention to the teddy bear clutched in his arms. “Teddy... right? Shall we rip that person to pieces together?”

Ayato smirked. “It’s gotten interesting. Obviously the one you’ll choose is me, right? It’s decided, isn’t it?”

Shu closed his eyes and seemed ready to sleep. “Whatever is fine. Just end this farce quickly.”

Laito smile a wide smile, green eyes glittering with excitement. “Little bitch? If you don’t choose me...you’ll definitely regret it later, you know?”

I-I said it out of an impulse, but... What shall I do?”

Omg I've read a wiki about Karlheinz, he's the mastermind and a big bad, I'll try not to piss him off. my oc's gonna be in big danger, do cross, garlic, holy water and stakes affect them, not killing them but at least incapacite them? (do kick in the family jewel count?)

Nope, nothing of such affects them however being at a church puts them in bad mood and if I’m not wrong Subaru hates garlic and states he gets irritated if someone chants religious songs. But it doesn’t really do anything, pisses them off, not even the sunlight does anything.

They are very much OP, only during lunar eclipses they become weaker and more emo-ish so you can fight them back with more ease, on the other hand, during full moon… they become agressive.

That of course if my memory is not messing around with me again XD (because I have constructed many headcanons during roleplay to adapt the best ideas of vampires to the DL universe - per see, hellsing has an awesome concept for vampires)

Day 1

Travel to Portland

It was a typical “I hate rains, bring the drought back” kind of a day as it was pouring continuously when I took an Uber Pool to the Hillsdale Caltrain Station. The journey to Sunnyvale Caltrain station (where Ravi was going to pick me up) seemed exceptionally long in drenched clothes and a wet travel neck pillow hanging off my backpack. I waited in the Hillsdale station for 20 mins before the train arrived. We filled gas and went to Chat Bhavan for dinner. We had Malai Kofta, Baingan Barta with Roti and Garlic Naan for dinner. Of course, no visit to an Indian restaurant is complete without the quintessential chai. We parked the Subaru at Ravi’s office and took an Uber to San Jose Airport. To while away some time before boarding the flight, I watched the latest season of Chef’s table and Ravi tried being the productive one and worked for a bit. Soon after landing we picked our rental car and drove to the Airbnb. The white Nissan Sentra seemed like a major step down from our daily ride. We reached close to midnight and the owners were kind enough to let us in. We crashed soon after reaching the place.

Day 2

Cheesy expedition

We woke up at 8am and started to get ready for Tillamook Cheese Factory for a cheese making tour. I was excited as this was my first cheese making factory tour after all the “how it’s made” videos Ravi had been watching last week. We left around 10am and got some coffee, dunkers and apple turnovers from Grand Central Baking Company on our way to Tillamook Cheese Factory.

It was a beautiful 90 minute drive from our Airbnb through lush green trees in both sides of windy roads in Tillamook State Forest. We saw many waterfalls on our way. There was a creek flowing parallel to the road where we saw few people canoeing and fishing. We reached the factory at around 11:30 am and we got ourselves some ice cream before the self-guided tour. I had the Mountain Huckleberry and Ravi tried the Oregon Hazelnut and Salted Caramel (his favorite ice-cream being Molly Moon’s homemade Salted caramel).

The tour was in a large room above the factory with french windows bearing descriptions about each step of the process. It ended with some cheese tasting where we tried squeaky cheese curds, medium and sharp Cheddars, Monterey Jack, and garlic chili pepper Cheddar. We got a few other flavored cheeses (habanero jack and smoked pepper) and hazelnut chocolate fudge along with souvenirs.

For lunch, we shared the Centennial grilled cheese with tomato soup, since we were still pretty full from the ice cream. It was one of the best grilled cheese I’ve ever had.

We met our friends Avani and Jessica late afternoon and decided to check out the Portland downtown. While taking a stroll we found a Vietnamese street food restaurant called Fresh Rolls. We had the Shrimp and Tofu rolls with some hot ginger tea. After that we went to try the famous Voodoo Doughnuts, we stood in the line for 20 mins and left soon after we realized it would take another 2 hours.

We grabbed some sweet potato fries from a Mediterranean food truck, whose owner was excited to see the Indian faces and asked if we were Arab – she even called Ravi Habibi. From there we walked to the river front, which was underwhelming as the water was muddy. We started walking to the car and decided to go to the Deschutes brewery for a quick drink, but the parking scene was so bad we decided to drive straight to dinner. We tried calling a couple of restaurants for reservations (Bête-Lukas, Tokio Table) we went to Ichidai for Sushi. We had some veggie and shrimp Tempura, miso soup, edamame, hot sake. For Maki rolls we had the Spicy Salmon Oregon, Spider with Soft-shelled crab, Spicy Tuna, and Avani had some veggie rolls.

Soon after dinner, we dropped off Avani and Jessica at his sister’s place and reached our Airbnb for an early night. All in all, it was a day well spent exploring the food scene in Portland.

Day 3

Multnomah and Columbia River Gorge

We woke up at 8 am in the morning and went to Sweet Jam for breakfast, which had great music and southern soul food. I had the pecan waffle and Ravi had his usual biscuits and gravy, and coffee.

After breakfast, we came back to the room to get ready. Avani and Jessica picked us up from our room around 10:30, and we drove to the Multnomah falls. We took the first stop at the Wahkeena falls and did a short hike to the falls. Next we went to the Multnomah falls, which drops in two major steps, split into an upper and lower falls. We had some coffee there and did some souvenir shopping. The drive was scenic and we saw many other waterfalls on the way. From Multnomah we went to the Columbia River Gorge vista point and enjoyed the beautiful view of the river.

We then headed back to the city for lunch. We went to a Mediterranean place called Blu Olive for lunch. For appetizers, we had the dip sampler plate which consisted of plain hummus, Jalapeno Cilantro hummus and baba ghanouj. I had the kabab plate and Afghani tea, and Ravi had some falafel. Avani and Jessica had the vegan and Mediterranean plate.

After spending sometime at Avani’s sister’s place, we went back to our Airbnb to freshen up, and headed to the Grand Central Baking Company for some coffee and pastries (pear frangipane tart and latte dunker). We ventured into the city and decided to visit the renowned Powell book store for a bit. We were amazed to see how colossal the store was – it occupied an entire city block. Ravi said he just died and went to heaven looking at the store. After spending close to an hour in the store, we to the nearby Sur la Table for a bit. Ravi had made reservations at a French restaurant Verdigris for Valentine’s day date night, which according to Yelp was the highest rated restaurant in Portland under the “Romantic Dinner” category. Since we were celebrating our deferred wedding anniversary, we got the first bubbles on the house – Ravi had the Blanc De Noir Brut (Domaine Dentelle NV) and I had the Methode Ancestrale Rouge (Patrice Colin “Perles Rouge” NV). We had the Mushroom Bisque & fried Quail for appetizers, the Rabbit Bacon Wrapped Saddle & Cedar Plank Steelhead for the main course, and the chocolate soufflé for dessert.

After a lovely dinner experience, we called it a day and headed back to our Airbnb.

Day 4

Oregon Zoo

We woke up early today as we were planning to do some shopping before reaching the airport. We had a quick breakfast at Sunrise bagels and we went to the Oregon zoo around 12pm.

We spent close to 2 hours in the Zoo which is a 64-acre zoo with five major exhibit areas – Great Northwest, Fragile Forests, Asia, Pacific Shores and Africa. After the Zoo we went to Salt & Straw for ice cream. You can savor the ‘holy-sh*t-that’s-good’ flavors here. We had the tasting flight with 4 flavors – Almond brittle w/ salted Ganache, Cavao Coffee and coconut Craque, Strawberry Honey Balsamic w/ Black Pepper, Pear w/ Blue cheese. When another customer saw Ravi walking with tasting flight towards me they asked me if it was my birthday. Went spent close to 1/2 an hour standing in the line but it was totally worth it.

We went for shopping for a bit before heading back to the airport. Ofcourse the rains or the grey overcast was not a surprise, but the hipsters in skinny jeans were. We even read a wall saying “Keep Portland wierd” near Voodoo Doughnuts. I got to experience the insanely slow drivers on the left lane, how many cafes sell Americano as drip coffee and close by 6pm. It was a fun and adventurous weekend with friends yet a relaxig and romantic weekend with Ravi.

Portlandia Day 1 Travel to Portland It was a typical "I hate rains, bring the drought back" kind of a day as it was pouring continuously when I took an Uber Pool to the Hillsdale Caltrain Station.

Hello hello! I really keep thinking about this moment in Kou’s CL route, so I wanted to translate it and share this really nice moment with you guys! I had a lot of fun translating it too, hehe

Yui: Okay, here you go. There's plenty of food, so do eat a lot.

Yui: He’s gone… ….

Subaru: Shit, why me too… …

Subaru: You guys dragged me into all your bullshit!

Kou: Isnt it all because you didn’t remember anything? After we did our best with all of that.

Kou: It wasn’t bullshit, all of it was serious!

Hey, just remember something already. We used to be really good friends!
