from: @bexrisa​ while making friends has always come easily to her, approaching potential friends yet competitors is still a skill that risa hasn’t yet mastered. nerves spike as she sets off on her self-imposed mission, introducing herself to her fellow trainees with the intention to start off on the right foot.

however things ended up going, she was at least here for the next three months, spending most of her waking hours with these people. she might as well give it her best shot at making a good impression if the rumors of long training hours were true.

as she reached one of her fellow trainees, a moment of doubt flashed in her mind, wondering suddenly if this was way too tacky or school-age. but it’s too late to back out now.

with a warm smile and a genuine desire to connect with her new peers, risa extended the bag of goodies (electrolyte packets, honey chestnuts, rice snacks, and face masks).

“hi, i’m risa,” she introduced herself with a friendly tone. “i just recently signed with sr media and thought i would introduce myself,” she offered, hoping to break the ice and make connections with her fellow trainees.

three more trainees to sr media. two of them girls. yuji feels like she’s going through post next gen signings all over again. on edge, nerves on high-- she takes a little while to gather the courage to approach them on her own. instead, she observes, keeps enough distance and goes through the planning of who she should go introduce herself first to. 

however, it seems she doesn’t have to decide. because yuji is approached first, and it stops her in her tracks, momentarily. her eyes flicker over the woman’s face, blinking five times in succession. “oh. hello.” she greets easily, a small smile crossing her face. yuji’s eyes move to the bag the other extends, then to the trainee-- risa, as she’s learned. 

“nice to meet you. i’m yuji.” yuji’s head tilts to the side. she’s courteous. she’s sweet-- it relaxes yuji a bit, but she still studies the other girl carefully. “welcome to sr media. is...is that for me?” a brow raises. not upset, but certainly surprised. “that’s rather sweet of you. thank you.” she takes the bag carefully, shifting in place. “how are you liking it here?”

Welcome to the donahdevotee's gift exchange, the event where selfshippers get to celebrate their fem f/o's and share their creativity with one another! (Sign up form is at the bottom of this post, please read through the guidelines before signing up!)

This gift exchange will cover art, writing and moodboards! So if you're not inclined towards art or writing you can still participate to share some love for other people's ships and have some love given to your own! Obviously the very basic requirement is to have a fem f/o! Your ship with her can be romantic, platonic, familial, queerplatonic, fwb, what have you! Every ship is welcome and so is every fem f/o! (If you headcannom your f/o as fem in any way, she is welcome as well!!)

GUIDELINES:

Art must comply with the rules of tumblr. A width of at least 540px wide, max file size is 20MB, please keep that in mind! If you’re drawing nsft art for your Giftee (You both must be 18+, minors are only allowed to create sfw works) you should censor it to post it. You can send the uncensored art to your Giftee!

Fics must be at minimum 500 words, no cap on the maximum however, go wild! (If you want to make a graphic to go with your fic, go for it! But it’s not mandatory <3)

Aesthetics/Moodboards should have a minimum of 4 graphics/images. You can make multiple for your giftee if you'd like! (Be considerate of eyestrain and/or flashing/etc. if using gifs!)

If you wish to back out at any point please let us know as soon as possible so we can work on a backup gift for your giftee, try not to leave it until the last day of the event!

Content that is NOT allowed: Self harm, Non-Con, Incest, Minors doing anything even remotely sexual, Pedophilia, Bestiality, Racist depictions or Fetish content.

[About the Zine]

Description: Dark, evil, and wicked, Specters are the final boss to face in the Saint Seiya franchise. Abandon hope all ye who enter here!

Participation: You will submit one (1) original, new fanwork (older/already published work is not accepted) to be compiled into a zine. Please do not share your final work until the zine has been properly published by SSZ (you may, however, share WIPs, previews, and/or close-ups as you work on it)

Type: The final compilation of all fanworks will be a free, digital PDF file (no physical versions will be made, no money will be earned or paid)

Character: Submission types have the following limitations:

Fanarts: 1 main character per submission (no duplicates ✪)

Fics: focus on 1-2 main characters per submission

Cosplays: 1 main character per submission

Merch Photos: 1 main character per submission

✪ This means most characters will have 1 fanart only. That said, due to their popularity, the following characters will be allowed a max of 2 fanarts overall: Hades, Wyvern Radamanthys, Griffon Minos, Garuda Aiacos, Pandora Heinstein

May I draw whichever character I want? The purpose of this zine is to focus on Specters, so only characters that belong to this faction are allowed. There are more applicable characters than you think! Check the Reference List

May I submit more than one work?  If, after the sign-up period is over, you would like to collaborate with a second submission, reach out to us. You may send different submission types if you want (e.g., 1 fanart and 1 fic). Please bear in mind the second character must still be available for you to take.

May I include other characters in my submission? Yes, as long as they belong to the Specter faction and there is a clear hierarchy where your chosen character is the main focus. Original Characters (OCs) may also be included as long as they follow this guideline. There is no problem if those secondary characters are already taken, or if the mix of characters would not make sense in the official material (for example, Shouichirou interacting with Vermeer). Please note that for characters who have worn a Surplice, only those with an Evil Star are considered Specters. Therefore, resurrected Saints, ROP Marina Generals and any applicable others are not allowed. For Hades Shun specifically, he should not be depicted wearing the Saint Cloths.

Orpheus, the Bronze Saints, Saori, Yuzuriha, Rugonis, Cattleya, Soujirou, Sasha, and Tenma can be referred to, but not appear in the fanwork. For example:

✅ Shouichirou looking at a picture of Soujirou / Yoruhime remembering a conversation with Cattleya ❌ Shouichirou and Soujirou during class / Yoruhime talking to Cattleya

Which Original Characters (OCs) are applicable? As long as they are not the main focus of your fanwork, OCs that are Specters (or serve under Hades in general), are welcomed in the zine. However, Saints, God Warriors, Marinas, and members of any other factions in Saint Seiya cannot be included.

The sign-up timeframe already passed. Can I still join? After this timeframe is concluded, no new submissions will be accepted.

May I use spinoff characters? Sure! All characters officially included in the Saint Seiya universe for the Specter faction (refer to list previously provided) are applicable. Please note that even though there are characters with different versions across the franchise (e.g., Minos), they are not counted as different options for the Zine, so if said character is already taken, no other version of them will be available.  

I changed my mind about the character I chose, and the new one is still available. Can I switch? To prevent confusion and misunderstandings, all character selections are final and cannot be changed/traded.

Am I allowed to change certain aspects of a character’s official design? It depends on the aspect, and should be reviewed case-by-case.

Example 1: as a Latin American, Niobe could differ in skin tone to the one seen on the official materials. However, characters like Pharaoh, who has a darker skin tone, should not be given a lighter one.

Example 2: if due to a personal headcanon, you believe a character has a certain scar or marking that is not seen in official materials, it can be included, but once again, please reach out to Staff for a case-by-case review.

What is the difference between an Alternate Universe [AU] and a Crossover? Some AU use popular tropes as a base, while a Crossover uses an already existing material as base. Examples:

Popular tropes for an AU: magic school, space fantasy/sci-fi

Existing material: Twisted Wonderland, Mass Effect [games], Little Witch Academia, Star Trek [series], Heralds of Valdemar, Dune [books]

So making a fanwork of the general "Saint Seiya × Magic School" or “Saint Seiya x space fantasy/sci-fi” concepts is an AU, but "Saint Seiya × Twisted Wonderland" or “Saint Seiya x Star Trek” are considered a crossover. In essence, heavy references to other existing fandoms are not allowed.

Could you please elaborate on what is/isn’t considered Not Safe For Work (NSFW)? If it is not appropriate for a general, non-specialized office work environment, then it is not accepted.

Examples: ✅ Blood depictions/mentions of it ❌ Graphic/detailed gore, mutilation, or body horror  ✅ Sensual themes (e.g., pin up) ❌ Sexual themes (including, but not limited to: genitalia, specifically erotic gestures like blowjob, etc.)

May I switch from one contribution type to another (ex: fanart to fic) after I signed up? To prevent confusion and misunderstandings, all contribution type selections are final.

I’m a writer! What is an acceptable image for the credits page? You can send an official StS work, fanarts (as long as it is made by, gifted to, or commissioned by you), or a picrew-generated image (as long as the picrew allows that use)

May I include a watermark on my submission? Yes, we encourage you to submit already watermarked fanworks to the zine, but it is not mandatory.

Do I have to send something for the check-ins? Nope. Our check-ins act as reminders only so you know exactly how much time you have left to send your submission.

I’m unable to complete my submission and would like to withdraw. Is that okay? Yes, you can withdraw at any time, for any reason (you don’t need to explain). Please just let us know in advance.

What is this project?

We're creating a fandom zine - a collection of fanworks made by fans, for fans. This book will be an art anthology, with contributions from 50 different artists!

Is the zine for profit or charity?

Charity! All proceeds will be donated to The River Otter Ecology Project.

What is the rating/content?

This is a safe-for-work, art-only zine featuring anything from the Jak and Daxter series. No other forms of media can be accepted this time around, sorry!

Are there mod positions available?

Yes! Applications will be live from April 27 thru May 8.

Is global shipping available?

Yes. Options will be released during the preorder phase.

What are the zine dimensions and page count?

5.5in x 8.5in, 60 pages including front and back cover!

Will there be a merch bundle?

Yes, there will be merch, as well as a digital version of the zine!

What is the contributor compensation (including merch)?

Contributors get free physical and digital copies of the zine, shipping included. Merch can be purchased at cost. Preorder is now open and closes Nov. 23rd!

First time contributor here - what do I need to submit to apply?

Please submit a portfolio that shows off your art. This can be a social media or a website, though for socials please submit a dedicated art tag!

Can I use an old piece for the zine?

Please draw something specifically for the zine and refrain from posting it anywhere until the zine's completion!

How many contributors will be accepted? How many pieces per contributor?

Determined based on number of submissions! The zine will likely be capped around 50 pages due to physical and financial constraints.

Is traditional art allowed?

Yes, it must be scanned in high quality (at least 300 dpi).

Is there an age limit?

No, just make sure you can meet the deadlines!

Analyzing Invention: Year of 2024

It’s been another year for the Inventor's Fair, a Magic: the Gathering card design contest blog here on Tumblr. Like all the past years, each week there have been awesome submissions, stunning designs, and marvelous interpretations. I couldn’t be happier being a member of this great collective.

For the uninitiated, each week, a design challenge is announced on the blog and members of the community create cards meeting the design specifications. At the end of the week, a few winners and runner-ups are selected from the submission.

So let’s take a look at the data – what was 2024 like for the Inventor’s Fair?

The Contests

This year, there were a total of 50 contests (51 if you include that the last contest of 2023 started on Dec 31). Most of the year, the contest was judged by either the veteran @abelzumi or by @spooky-bard, who made their judge debut in February 2024 in a contest known as “The Origin.” Together, they helmed 38 of the contests, with the remainder being led by @loreholdlesbian, @follower-of-liliana, @gollumni, and @mistershinyobject.

Throughout the 50 contests, there have been a total of 1,108 entries, which averages to 22 entries per contest. This is down from the previous 2 years, with a grand total of 1,367 entries in 2022 and 1,234 entries in 2023. The contests with the highest number of entries were “Common Wonders” (June 30th) and “Submit” (Nov 17th) with 30 total entries. The contests with the lowest number of entries were “My Better Half” (Feb 11th), “War Never* Changes” (Mar 10th) and “Spoiled for Choice” (June 16th) with 16 total entries.

The title for Most Submissions goes to @nine-effing-hells, who managed to submit a design for EVERY SINGLE contest this year. Additional shout-outs go to those who submitted 40+ times (@bergdg, @izzet-always-r-versus-u, @helloijustreadyourpost, @hypexion, and @misterstingyjack) as well as those who submitted for the first time or returned this year (51 entrants!): a quick hello to our most recent: @justicefortyvarkell! In total, there were a total of 119 unique entrants this year.

As mentioned above, there were a total of 1,108 submissions this year as part of the 50 contests. Let's dig into some of the details.

It's always fun to see a bell curve happen in real life. Here, we have it centered on Mana Value 4. This is similar to previous years.

Once again, Rare entries were the ultimate winner. It's always fun to design those splashy cards. But, you can never count out Uncommons, the workhorses of any deck, who came in second.

Once again, Green is the least designed for color, way behind the rest of the pack. The rest are within 50 entries of each other, with Black keeping the Monarch for the second year in a row (Red last held the crown for 2022). Mono-colored designs held to almost the same pattern, with just a swap between white (120) and blue (117).

At the request of @xenobladexfan, let's do a little deep-dive on the Legendary Cards submitted this year.

Out of all the entries, we had 190 submissions (~17% of the total) that were Legendary (or partial Legendary, such as The Intrepid Albamarl // Find the Scoop from @reaperfromtheabyss).

Not that I think Netanyahu is the ruler or controller of Trump—more like the messenger. Remember when I was impressed that Trump was getting his nominations confirmed with so little fuss? It was the same explanation for the war on Free Speech that Trump launched—aimed at suppressing all criticism of those who would lead us into war. Yes, it looks like Trump was elected under false pretenses. Not that he lied, exactly, just told people what they wanted to hear while cleverly concealing what he actually intended to do. What is the Halloween mini event?

The Halloween mini event is a prompt-based event dedicated to the Ahsoka show. The prompt HALLOWEEN PARTY was chosen by the members of the Star Wars Pathfinders Discord server.

Everyone is welcome to join the event!

People are encouraged to share works focused on the Ahsoka show, its characters, relationships (canon or non-canon), the Ahsoka timeline, any events leading up to it, or events taking place shortly after season one.

How do I participate?
