Son of a Coma Guy: Unconditional Love is Cutting Your Heart Out
Son of a Coma Guy is leading up to the climax of the Tritter arc of House season 3, only two episodes before Finding Judas, where Wilson betrays House and makes a deal with Tritter, an action that ultimately dissolves their relationship until Season 4. The episode starts with a unique structure, with no patient cold open. Just House having lunch with two patients in comas. Wilson barges in and yells at House for “forcing him to lie to the police” that House didn't steal Wilson’s prescription pad and forge his Vicodin prescriptions. This is all in the first minute of the episode, setting up the intricacies of House and Wilson’s relationship that will soon get pushed in the later events of the season.
Wilson is characterized as a person who is selfless, giving, loves to be needed, and will do anything in his power to help people he cares about, especially House. House does something that should rightfully break this friendship: put Wilson’s career on the line and possibly send himself to prison. Wilson is mad at House for only thinking about himself and putting himself in jeopardy. Wilson isn’t mad at House for using him and his kindness. House always does this. Wilson likes being used. In reality, Wilson is scared for House, not himself. He lied to Tritter to protect House. House didn't force Wilson to lie for him. Wilson did it anyway. The ultimate act of loyalty and care, the ultimate sacrifice. This is all read between the lines, of course, and this important revelation in the opening of the episode sets up the actions and importance of Son of a Coma Guy.
We are then introduced to the titular Son of a Coma Guy, Kyle Wozniak, who has a seizure when House induces one. Kyle discusses his medical history and his family history. He says that his dad never liked his mother’s side of the family, and he was raised by a guardian. He only visits his father, who is in a coma. House wakes up his comatose father, Gabriel Wozniak. The last thing he remembers is the fire that killed his wife, something that is revealed to have been caused by Kyle later in the episode. House and Wilson discuss Gabriel. House argues, “Maybe he just doesn’t like his son. The delusion that fathering a child installs a permanent geyser of unconditional love.” Wilson interjects with, “Maybe your father’s feelings were conditional. Not everyone-” House cuts him off, “Yes, of course, that would play into your romantic vision of-” Wilson says, “In terms you would understand, we have an evolutionary incentive to sacrifice for our offspring. Our tribe, our friends. Keep them safe.” To which House replies, “Except for all the people who don’t. Everything is conditional. You just can’t always anticipate the conditions.” Wilson’s argument here mirrors his actions at the start of the episode, sacrificing himself and keeping House safe from the consequences of his actions, even if he deserves them. House says that maybe Gabriel’s relationship with Kyle is conditional, that love and sacrifice can never be unconditional. Referencing his abusive relationship with his father and his perception of love. That it always has to have a catch. This is really important in understand House and Wilson as characters, and especially in their relationship. Wilson views love as being programmed, an innate thing you’re evolutionarily destined to have. House views love as something you earn, something you get, something that has conditions. Wilson might have a romantic vision of love, but his love life is just as unhealthy as House’s. Constantly putting people’s needs in front of his own, sacrificing himself for House, which is left unnoticed and unappreciated by House. Someone who views this sacrifice as conditional when, in reality, it isn’t. This is the dichotomy of House and Wilson.
House fulfills Gabriel’s last-day request of getting a sandwich and needs Wilson’s car for a road trip to Atlantic City. Wilson of course, lets him have it but decides to come with them. House keeps questioning Gabriel so Gabriel makes a deal with him that for every question House asks, Gabriel asks him one too. Gabriel asks House if he’s ever been in love, House says yes. Says that they met when she shot him in paintball, talking about Stacy. Gabriel asks if House has ever loved anyone else and House deflects saying, “no more questions” but Wilson is of course in the car with them. House doesn’t want to admit that he 1. Either loves Wilson or 2. Is capable of loving Wilson since this would prove his conditional love theory, that he loves Wilson only because he selflessly gives House what he needs.
In the hotel in Atlantic City, Wilson asks House why he used his pad, not Cameron’s Foreman's or Chase’s. Wilson says that it’s because his association with House is voluntary. That he chooses to be close to him. “Any relationship that involves choice you have to see how far you can push before it breaks. And one day our friendship will break and that’ll just prove your theory that relationships are conditional and you don’t need human connection or deserve it or whatever goes on in that rat maze of your brain.” House deflects this, of course. Incapable of being truly honest about his feelings at this stage. House, throughout the show has a deep insecurity about deserving love, deserving to live, and deserving to be happy. Wilson’s unconditional loyalty to him pushes against this. Yes, there are moments when their relationship wavers but it never truly fully breaks. He always comes back to House and in the end, he relies on House. House is all Wilson has, and Wilson is all House has. Son of a Coma Guy is the first proof that House can bend Wilson and his relationship and Wilson will bend with him. Their social contract of push and pull. Bending but never fully breaking.
House questions Gabriel about his family history, eventually determining the illness that is inherited throughout their family. Gabriel asks House why he became a doctor, and he decides to be honest with him. Saying that when his father was stationed in Japan he went to one of the hospitals as a kid and he was inspired by a doctor, a buraku, one of Japan’s untouchables. Someone whose ancestors were slaughterers and gravediggers, he wasn’t accepted by his staff, but they needed him because he was right so nothing else mattered. Gabriel is asked about the fire that killed his wife, and he explains that Kyle when he was 12, knocked over the kindling which started the fire. He didn’t blame him because he was just a child and it was an accident. Gabriel isn’t with him because he blames himself for failing to keep his family safe. He couldn’t stop the fire and save his wife. He doesn’t want to see his son die too. This goes into Wilson’s evolutionary love argument. Gabriel loves his family so much that he can’t bear to lose them, to fail to protect them.
Gabriel decides to perform the ultimate sacrifice, to give Kyle his heart to save him. House decides to go along with it, telling Gabriel how to kill himself so that the heart can be saved, by hanging. Before he aids Gabriel, he asks Wilson to leave the room. Wilson says no, but House says, “You’ve lied to the cops enough for me. Maybe I don’t want to push this until it breaks.” To which Wilson leaves, accepting that House appreciates his sacrifice and is willing to put himself on the line for someone else. Something that House rarely does. Gabriel asks House if he could hear one thing from his father what would it be? To which House says “I’d want him to say You were right. You did the right thing.” What this is truly about we don’t know and never really find out but House’s abusive relationship with his father isn’t truly revealed until One Day One Room a few episodes later, which puts new context to this line. House has to kill a father who loves his son so much, even though he accidentally caused the death of his wife, that he is willing to sacrifice his heart for him. Gabriel unconditionally loves his son, but House’s father’s love was conditional. This is what Wilson argued previously. Gabriel is willing to sacrifice his heart, (do I have to mention Wilson’s Heart) also mirrors Wilson’s sacrifice at the beginning of the episode. Both Gabriel and Wilson prove their unconditional love. Wilson wordlessly sets up House’s alibi for him and they wait together for Gabriel to die. When Gabriel’s heart saves Kyle, Kyle asks House for any message from his father, something to give him closure. House tells him what he wishes his father would have told him. “Right about what? What does that mean?” Kyle asks. “How would I know? He’s your dad,” House tells him and leaves.
“You know what I learned about this case?” House asks Wilson at the end of the episode. “That it proved that people can love unconditionally and you can tell yourself it’s not true, but you’ll just end up in a hotel room in Atlantic City asking someone to cut your heart out?” Wilson says.
Son of a Coma Guy is an episode about unconditional love and sacrifice. Gabriel and Wilson are the givers, those who sacrifice their hearts (literally and not literally) for the people they love. Kyle and House are the takers. Those who don’t think they deserve the love they receive but are forced to take it. Kyle, to live, House for growth. I adore this episode and it is a prime highlight of House and Wilson’s relationship and the peak of House’s writing.

Dinosaurs (1991) is so underrated. Like, it has episodes about gay people and homophobia, endangered species, censorship, the rights of indigenous peoples, divorce, sexism, sexual harassment/the objectification of women, gender roles, animal rights, capitalism and the problems with corporations/rich people, the problems with traditions, war, fatphobia/fatshaming, politics, gangs and drugs, steroids, televangelism, religious freedom, pollution, government intervention in parenting, immigration, squatters rights, racism, culture-war scape goating, police brutality, consumerism, election rigging, sex education, cultural appropriation, and its all dinosaur puppets and animatronics in a nuclear family dynamic

Hi I was wondering if your request are still open and if so are there any of the series listed in your master list list that you no longer write for?
Hellyu,
thank you for asking me that, I should really renew my masterlist...
Also no, requests are not open, and every person who is requesting stuff now stays in my inbox as I'm still looking and writing for the requests I got. But, if you want to, you can request stuff, but you'll have to wait, my love.
I don't know, but I still like to write stuff in some parts, for example my hero academia, where I've written a lotta stuff, and a smut fic with Aizawa will come soon. However, I'd also like to write drabbles or one-shots with the students as well.
I've wanted to write more Haikyuu fics as well, but I dunno, I've actually never watched the anime, only the first few episodes...
Tokyo revengers is also there, and I love when I get requests to write about them. However, I've been reading the mange until chapter 2 hundred something, so I'm not as up to date as some of you guys, but I'll try my best if requests come regarding that anime/mange series.
Nanbaka is such an underrated anime, and the manga is also pretty cool, so I'd love to still write fic then and there.
Obey me will stay, I think, because I have a lot of requests from it, and I still have more to write. Another thing to add is that I really like that game.
I think I'll put Wednesday away, because it just--isn't my favourite, like I didn't really like the show. Maybe the second season will be cooler, but I dunno. So...maybe no more Wednesday content.
I won't stop writing for Marionetta, The greatest Estate Developer or The Tomato Can. They are goated webtoons and I love them very much.
Please also chech out my events at the end of my masterlist, where there are some more webtoons and anime listed which I read and watch.
Thank you for asking me, my love, I actually had time to think about this!
I hope this answered your question, and if you have more, then just ask ahead and I'll try my best to answer you as soon as possible.

Please send help Xi Yang Yang literally has me in a chokehold and I am struggling knowing that out of most donghua, most of which are generally already pretty underrated and niche in the mainstream, this is probably one of the MOST NICHE fandoms I could ever get into because it is a kids’ show. 😭
It has a fandom in China that’s actually super active (I love getting lost in Bilibili’s AMVs and animation memes when I can afford to (as in I usually can’t/shouldn’t because I spend too long on that addicting site)), but obviously I’m not fluent enough to be super active on Chinese websites. 🥲
BUT XI YANG YANG JUST HAS GOTTEN SO ANIME AND BADASS AND HEARTFELT AND IT KILLS ME BECAUSE I’M WATCHING THESE ADORABLE LITTLE CHARACTERS I LIKED AS A CHILD BECOME AMAZING, ACTUALLY DEEP CHARACTERS IN REALLY INTRIGUING STORIES!!! It doesn’t help my addiction that the Xi Yang Yang channel on YouTube literally uploads all the episodes so I can watch them!! For free!!! It’s so accessible and thus super addicting!!!
Tumblr media
I just found out from summary videos what happens in the latest season (the one where the goats and wolves go back to the fantasy cat kingdom except this time they discover a dog kingdom) and AHHHHHHHHH. I was literally—and yes, I do mean literally!—screaming because OH MY GOD KGJSKFHSJS THE PLOT. THE THINGS THAT HAPPEN.
God I wish there was a fandom for this. I used to yell about it on Twitter and at my Chinese friend who also liked animation (he was even nice enough to send me Xi Yang Yang merch!!) but my Twitter followers follow me for my Scum Villain (and maybe Erha) content and my friend isn’t active anymore. 😭
Obviously it’s my account so I can just post what I want but what I want to do is yell and upload too many screenshots and yell some more and sub video clips and post those too. I LITERALLY HAVE CLIPS OF XI YANG YANG THAT I SUBBED MYSELF JUST SITTING ON MY PHONE GLSJDKSHSJS.
I can’t emphasize enough how this series has grown and changed so much since I was a kid—now rather than have Tom and Jerry-esque comedy and rather stiff animation, it’s more colourful and fluid and even more meaningful—and it remains super funny. Like yes, sometimes the animation is still a bit off but overall it’s just improved so much!! The action is so shounen it’s just so much fun!
https://youtu.be/yQpdr4h2rbc
youtube
And the characters are all so likeable—like I genuinely think Xi Yang Yang and Hui Tai Lang are examples of iconic character design, and their friends are pretty good too (Xi Yang Yang can get really funky with some of the character designs—for example with the egg villains etc but overall the main characters look so so cute).
I’m so glad they reformed Hui Tai Lang in Mighty Little Defenders!! I’ve watched every season since then and they’re all really really enjoyable. Since we’re not just constantly reusing Hui Tai Lang as a villain and having him chase the sheep around, we get a lot more interesting stories: the entire Rescue Across Time season, with all its time-travelling shenanigans, remains one of my favourites, as does the aforementioned fantasy cat kingdom transmigration season (we even got the goats brainwashed into lovable jerk versions of themselves who also happen to be cats!!). The whole plot surrounding Xi Yang Yang’s parents and Bing Bing Yang is really nice too, and Hui Tai Lang is such a good dad. 😭
Also I guess it doesn’t technically matter if I spoil the latest season and reveal why I was screaming earlier today, but basically I found out they make Hui Tai Lang brainwashed by dark energy into becoming a villain. Xi Yang Yang tries to fight him and they both get affected with the dark energy, but in the end, Hui Tai Lang still sacrifices himself to save his best friend. GOD THEIR BOND IS SO CUTE. ;w;
Tumblr media
I know this is like all gibberish to people who haven’t watched Xi Yang Yang and I’m betting 90% of you haven’t (and that even if you have, 95% of you or more haven’t watched the newer seasons (from Mighty Little Defenders onwards)). But basically besides Xi Yang Yang being devastated by Hui Tai Lang’s potential death, Gou Xing Lang, the villain from the cat fantasy kingdom season (Against the Dark Force) soMEHOW MANAGES TO SAVE HIM FROM WITHIN THE DARKNESS???? AND IT HAS ME EVEN MORE EMO BECAUSE HE HAD A SAD, PRETTY TOUCHING BACKSTORY WHERE HE LOST TOUCH WITH HIS CHILDHOOD BEST FRIEND WHO BETRAYED HIM (which they referenced in the Ultimate Battle season) BUT WE ALL THOUGHT HE WAS DEAD!!!
So now I’m wondering if they’ll build on the fact he’s somehow in the dark energy??? Or if they’ll just leave it at that!?
Man I haven’t even watched the season yet because the YouTube channel gets the seasons way later than China does, so I don’t know the details and from what I have seen, I might find some of it a bit odd, but they really do have the capability to make me feel feels, don’t they? Just from a summary video and I was already getting all emo over Xi Yang Yang and Hui Tai Lang’s bond, and how badass they both are when they’re a bit more villainous.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m also wheezing because the summary video pointed out how Hui Tai Lang lamented the fact he always gets made into the villain, and it’s kind of true… 😂
They turned him into a robot in the Ultimate Battle season—and ahhhh he looks so badass!!—and now here too he got infected with dark energy. But I’m down for dark Hui Tai Lang and dark Xi Yang Yang… Like I’m really happy they brought back the kitty versions of the goats because the whole premise there is that they’re like the goats but also opposite, so a lot of them are way meaner than the goats. And that’s always such a fun idea!!
Tumblr media
Kitty Xi Yang Yang is brash and arrogant and only cares about power/fun while Xi Yang Yang himself is clever but caring—even when he can be a bit vain. Mei Yang Yang is sweet and a bit timid—although I love the badass older version of herself we got in Ultimate Generation—and yet kitty Mei Yang Yang is just a major bitch and I love it. Like think Flutterbitch from the first couple Discord episodes or from the Chrysalis episode lol. Fei Yang Yang is protective and strong and brash while kitty Fei Yang Yang is selfish and obsessed with cleanliness. Nuan Yang Yang is tender and caring yet kitty Nuan Yang Yang is basically a green tea bitch—she pretends to be sweet on the surface to get people to like her and listen to her but obviously inside she’s not that sweet. Instead, kitty Nuan Yang Yang is rather lazy ahaha.
Speaking of lazy though, we finally got to see kitty Lan Yang Yang, which we didn’t see in Against the Dark Force, since he was never brainwashed. Apparently kitty Lan Yang Yang is still cowardly and gluttonous but also kind of…coquettish? 😂
I’m genuinely so curious about what happens in the dog kingdom season ahhhhh!!! But so far I’m watching Ultimate Battle as it’s updated on YouTube, and I’ve enjoyed this season a lot. It reminds me of Sonic actually, and new Xi Yang Yang already kind of reminds me of Sonic (that’s actually part of why I recommend it—it’s like various really good series all combined into one, and I think fans of modern kids’ shows will also probably enjoy Xi Yang Yang!).
Having Xi Yang Yang and Hui Tai Lang chase a villain into the future and meet their friends 15 years after they disappeared is such a cool plot idea! Plus the villain himself is pretty neat—he wants to roboticize everyone to remove the weakness that is emotion—and from spoilers I know, he’s bringing a lot more intriguing things to the table later.
I’m obsessed with how mature Xi Yang Yang’s friends now are—like they still feel like themselves, but you can really tell they’ve grown up! And it feels natural, which is great.
Mei Yang Yang became a journalist to better search for Xi Yang Yang, and we get lore on her this season, which is really awesome. She’s now no longer bothered by dirtiness and she can fend for herself, which is great to watch—I love her weapon too because it’s a sword that can break into pieces to become longer, like a whip.
Fei Yang Yang is now a badass, reliable firefighter, so he no longer carries that childish brashness of his younger self, and he’s really cool in action. For example, the way he figured out Bu Lei’s plot and was later the one who used three cards, overexerting himself yet becoming super powerful and badass in order to defeat Professor T, was just so cool.
Lan Yang Yang is working as a food reviewer basically and while he’s undoubtedly still Lan Yang Yang, enjoying eating and sleeping, he’s well-respected in his community and sometimes he actually feels full because chefs search for him so much lol. He also has a cool weapon—it’s a flying platform with three sort of canons floating above it, and it kind of resembles a fidget spinner!
Nuan Yang Yang achieved her dream of becoming a singer and I like how consistent her love of music—and her being a fan of a singer who’s a duck—is to her character. I am disappointed because they made her slimmer and I feel like her being a bigger goat as a mountain goat was always a fun part of her backstory and why she looks slightly different from the other sheep. Despite that, I get making older characters look very different from their younger selves for the sake of change (eg Anko getting fat in Boruto vs being skinny in Naruto), so while I’d prefer her being her bigger size, I can live with this change.
Some of the roboticization storylines are really badass too—I already mentioned Hui Tai Lang’s, but there’s also Hong Tai Lang’s admittedly hot roboticized look (and I feel like I can call it hot because the Xi Yang Yang team did also release an artwork that showed a human version!!). I also know there’ll be more involving Xiao Hui Hui, as his abandonment issues from Hui Tai Lang’s vanishment were resolved a bit earlier in the season but I suppose they’re bringing some more drama later! Mei Yang Yang’s trauma from Xi Yang Yang’s disappearance also gets explored, and we get to learn some of her lore, which I am very *rubs hands excitedly* about. 👀
Tumblr media
And of course I know some spoilers about Professor T that I’m just like ‼️ over. The other robots also had pretty compelling stories—Bu Lei is fun as a green tea bitch/yandere type villain and Hei Zhuan (Hei Zuan?)’s story with his sister was cute. But Otto’s whole storyline literally nearly made me cry. 😭
OH AND I CAN’T WRITE ALL THIS AND NOT TALK ABOUT THE NEWEST XI YANG YANG MOVIE, WHICH IS ABOUT BASKETBALL.
I actually skipped the basketball season since obviously I’m not exactly into the sport, but I’ve determined since I should probably watch it still sometime because I realized later it nonetheless carries that Xi Yang Yang charm, so even if I don’t care too much for the dramatization of basketball (you know the kind; the kind that permeates all sports anime), I can nevertheless enjoy it for depicting my favourite characters. 🥺
I’ve caught a glimpse of some episodes of the basketball season and they are cute!! The one where they compete with the bunnies and actually help save them from famine despite the bunnies trying to cheat to win was really sweet, and later episodes depict that awesome bond between Hui Tai Lang and Xi Yang Yang.
So back to the movie—I brought up the basketball season because obviously the movie does adapt/reference some of it since they’re both about basketball, and I did skip the movie too for a while… But I later watched it and AHHHHHHH GLSBDKSHDKSB OF COURSE I ENJOYED IT. It’s a depiction of characters I love being themselves while on an adventure!! How could I not enjoy it!?
The animation style was really neat; seeing the sheep and wolves in a more detailed anthro style than their usually chibi/cartoony style meant we got some pleasing aesthetics—for example, I enjoyed how their eyes corresponded with their themed colours (like in the series Xi Yang Yang and Hui Tai Lang both have dark bluish-grey eyes, but in the movie Xi Yang Yang’s are very visibly blue and Hui Tai Lang’s are very visibly purple. It’s quite pretty!).
I’ve also embarrassingly enough tweeted about this before, but they did make Hui Tai Lang…unfairly hot in the movie LGBSKFHSJSH. Basically, they gave him consistently half-lidded eyes and with the more violet colour and more realistic proportions (since the characters look more anthro). My younger brother even complained about how such series indulges furries since you could tell they gave Hui Tai Lang those muscles etc on purpose lmao.
Tumblr media
Who let this man look like this? Who!?
But yeah Hui Tai Lang and Xi Yang Yang have a conflict within the film—which of course they do; it’s a movie so we need to up the ante—but as sad as it is seeing characters we like have a falling out (and as overdramatic as some of the angst may feel), it’s nevertheless characters I cherish facing conflict. So seeing them come back together after and working hard to get the basketball championship after losing is really lovely, and I really enjoy how Xi Yang Yang lets all its characters shine.
In every season, while there may be one character who gets more focus along with Xi Yang Yang and Hui Tai Lang—for example Against the Dark Force was very much Lan Yang Yang’s season and in some ways, Ultimate Battle allowed Mei Yang Yang to shine—all the characters get arcs focused on them that correlate to the bigger overarching plot. I mean, every season is 60 episodes!! So of course we have lots of time to explore the characters and I really appreciate that.
So even in the film, we do see the other characters shine, even if it’s all tied back to the overarching plot of basketball and even if Xi Yang Yang and Hui Tai Lang take centre stage. I also really enjoyed the ending since it kept me on the toes—the rival team to Xi Yang Yang’s had a character that was going through his own arc, but I was desperately hoping the sheep would win the championship this time since they lost to the wolves in the basketball season. Plus I was crossing my fingers waiting for Hui Tai Lang to get to shine since they set up how he’s not the best player and thus feels like he’s in Xi Yang Yang’s shadow…
And fortunately the film did end up going with the best possible ending (imo)!
Spoilers ahead if you care lol:
Basically, they did let the sheep finally win the championship, which is perfect since obviously this is a sequel to the basketball season, where they started off as the underdogs yet did end up losing, even with all the growth they had. It felt like a perfect progression—especially since even though the rival team (the tigers) did have a character with his own arc and reasons why he really wanted to win, they only had to have his father finally approve of him playing basketball to give him a satisfactory conclusion. As in, he didn’t need to win the way the sheep needed to.
And thankfully, while I was getting worried throughout the final match, they did let Hui Tai Lang shine!! He got to take the winning shot after Xi Yang Yang faked being the winning shot, which is of course the perfect progression to Hui Tai Lang’s arc too. I was so happy when they did that!!
Of course, some of this conclusion is probably obvious in hindsight, but I did have a fear…mostly because the sheep almost did lose until they protested an issue and it initially looked like Xi Yang Yang was going to take the winning shot—which if he had, it would feel less satisfying, as Hui Tai Lang wouldn’t get to join him in the limelight.
I need to have more trust in the Xi Yang Yang team lol. I’ve loved almost everything they’ve done so far, and whenever I doubt them, they manage to pleasantly surprise me! And what I mean by “doubt them” is that sometimes Chinese series will have writing conventions a westerner may find odd, but even when Xi Yang Yang subverts my expectations and indulges in that “odd” Chinese sense of humour etc, I still love it to bits (and listen, I’m not saying Chinese writers are bad. Not at all! I’m just referring to the fact that as a Canadian-born-Chinese, I’ve witnessed people complain about Chinese story details because it’s not what they’re used to).
OH ALSO THE MOVIE’S OST SLAPS. I KEEP LISTENING TO THE SONGS ON LOOP GLSHFKSHDKSH.

But wow okay I rambled WAY too much lmaooooo. I just can’t help it!! When I really love things I love them to absolute pieces, and when a fandom is underrated, I tend to feel the need to actually be active and promote it so I can spread how happy it makes me. Plus I can happily juggle multiple brain rots at once, even if I have one main one that takes centre stage lol. Like right now Scum Villain and Erha are my biggest obsessions—and y’all have seen how much I can ramble about both Scum Villain and Erha lol—but of course I love all my donghua and danmei and manhua and cdramas and Chinese music. ♥️
Along with my other planned blog entries about donghua and danmei and Chinese-themed media (such as me wanting to write some thoughts on Everything Everywhere All at Once), I have every intention of writing about why you should watch Xi Yang Yang on my blog ahaha.
I just. Have so many happy feelings surrounding Xi Yang Yang right now and I want to yell about them specifically, especially since there’s barely a fandom for them in the west. All this rambling is a result of me bottling up my fangirling for weeks NGNSKDHSKSH. Plus I’m a naturally ramble-y person! But I feel even more ramble-y when a series is an underrated gem and makes me endlessly happy, the way Xi Yang Yang is and does. 🥺

My TV show favourites of all time
Life on Mars & Ashes to Ashes - they cannot be bested. Goated shows.
Doctor Who - RTD era only. Nostalgia n that.
Black Mirror - UK series’ only. I first watched it when I was 13 and it was …memorable to say the least.
Bob & Rose - a wonderful creation by RTD. Despite its simplicity, this is really something special. Very funny and excellent dialogue.
Queer as Folk - Groundbreaking. Fun. Camp.
Cucumber - I think of this as as a sequel/modern day equivalent to Queer as Folk.
Line of Duty - Series 1-3 only. Intense.
Bodies - Jed Mercurio’s show. Rather underrated and unknown by most. Highly recommended, especially if you like dark humour
Frasier - The most British American sitcom ever. I enjoyed up until Daphne and Niles got together.
Waterloo Road - Series 1-8 were so much fun to watch whilst at school.
Misfits - A really funny show that also happens to have some great sci fi elements. I didn’t expect to enjoy this one so much. It’s like “Skins” but far superior.
Breaking Bad - a classic. Despite being slow at times, those last episodes at the end of series 5 more than made up for it.
The Sopranos - I once saw a great fanfic writer explain the show perfectly: “the sopranos is to television what Dante’s inferno is to literature”. There’s a good reason this one is always put at the top of those “greatest tv shows of all time” lists. Watch it and find out. My mistake was watching this show too young - many jokes went over my head. Definitely due a rewatch :)
Game of Thrones - Series 1-4 are excellent, and do (fairly) well to stay true to the books. Series 5 onwards isn’t worth your time. Highly recommended to read the books first before watching the show!
This is going to hurt - I enjoyed this much more than I expected. The guy who plays the main character of the show does it really quite well.
Peep show - As i age, this show only becomes more relatable. British humour at its best
Brass Eye - Chris Morris is the GOAT! The original Ali G.
Jam - Another Chris Morris show. Everything he’s made is of the highest quality. Jam just happens to be one of the darkest shows I’ve ever watched. It’s pure genius but not for the faint of hearts. Lovely ambient soundtrack as well.
The thick of it - Malcolm Tucker is an icon. An awful but hilarious, raging mad Scottish legend. The political satire is off the charts good.
Green wing - Very silly, but very funny. There’s a twist in the end of series 1 that is genuinely unexpected. One of the most unique sitcoms you’ll watch.
Nathan Barley - Chris Morris and Charlie Brooke, two geniuses, get together to create a TV show. Of course it was going to be fantastic. This one took me a while to get into, but once I did, it made me laugh a lot.
The book group - I have a weird fondness for this. Highly recommended if you’re a book nerd.
The simpsons - the golden years made it one of the best shows ever. And it will never not be weird how the Simpson’s managed to be spot on with its predictions.
It’s a sin - Made me cry. A lot. Educated me as well. It’s a RTD show, of course I was going to love it.
End of the fucking world - a show I watched ages ago, but I remember liking a lot. Can’t remember too much of what happened, but I had a lot of affection for the characters.
Sex House - online series that can be watched on YouTube from the onion account. Despite the raunchy title, it’s anything but that. It’s a lot smarter than you would think it to be. Watch it. But don’t expect much sex.
Last tango in Halifax - not the type of show I usually enjoy. But the sally wainwrights writing make the characters endearing, and what might seem like a slow boring show spring into something funny and special.
Happy Valley - Sarah Lancashire…Christ on a bike, that woman can act.
Clocking Off - Series 1-2 are surprisingly great. I was mostly invested in Mac’s character, but the writing for most of the episodes is quality.
Humans - Series 1 was really enjoyable. Don’t remember the other series that well.
The Wire - Tragically I have only watched the first series, but it was really super. One of those shows that’s tricky to get into at first, but we’ll worth pursuing.
Death Note - Can i include anime here? Of course. I usually turn my nose up at anime actually, but this one is different to most. There is a cat and mouse dynamic between the two main characters L and Light. This drives the plot. It’s a remarkable show, one I like to rewatch every now and then.
Killing Eve - My oh my, this show went downhill fast. I include it as a favourite merely because series 1 alone was utter perfection.
Goodness gracious me - Asians are funny. Also cuts deep into racism in the uk at the time.
Sugar Rush - I really enjoyed watching this when I was a teen.
Luther - like killing eve and death note, there is a cat and mouse dynamic between Luther and Alice (a psychopath) in this show which is what makes it something special
The traitors - a reality show like no other. The game theory, particularly in the early episodes make this really fun to watch.
Years and Years - Yet more RTD. This one made me cry as well, inevitably, but it was also warm and fuzzy in places too.

golden hour by @frysquint (maybeamystery) buck/eddie | dog adoption, getting together | 19.8k
Okay, in the cold light of day, Buck can now admit that he is totally and completely in love with Eddie. The gross, sappy, want-to-write-a-million-soft-ballads kind of love. Eddie is the first person he thinks about when he opens his eyes in the morning; when he falls asleep at night, it’s usually to thoughts of Eddie and Chris, the two most important people in the world to him other than his sister and Jee-Yun.
Not for the first time, Buck wishes he had the guts to confess his feelings to Eddie and get it over with. Instead, he’s trapped Eddie in this weird dog adoption farce, and he doesn’t know how he’s going to get out of it with his heart intact.
[or Buck adopts a dog with the Diazes, and they live happily ever after.]

2, 8, 11, 13 :D
2. What’s your favorite episode and why?
(Trying… so hard.. to not say… a Logan episode…) It depends on the day! But Seaplane! is always up there. It takes a kind of overdone sitcom cliche (bored wife almost cheats on her husband) and completely flips it on its head, escalating to an insane climax! The jokes don’t quit, the pacing is amazing, and god Kurt is so awful and I love it.
8. Which dynamic within the Belchers do you find the most interesting?
Ooo they’re all so good, but any variation of the Belcher siblings is fantastic. They just need to give Tina and Gene a little more time to let their dynamic shine. Fingers-Loose had a really good moment with them, and I want to see more! Otherwise, Louise being her siblings’ boss is just (chefs kiss).
11. Which types of plots do you enjoy more: wacky hijinks, heartwarming family bonding, or a balance of both?
Wacky hijinks all the way, with a sprinkling of heartwarming. Like the episode where Tina makes Louise a friendship bracelet? The moment where they exchange the present means more because they spent the whole episode caught up in hijinks.
13. What’s an underrated episode?
Stand By Gene! Gene episodes can be biiiig hit or miss episodes, but this one knocked it out of the park! The A and C plot coincide really well, the B plot is hilarious, I mean hell the whole damn episode is hilarious with a worthwhile payoff! So, so good. Two-butted goat forever. Also, Sexy Dance Healing.

ranking every season of pleasant goat and big big wolf
//// SPOILER WARNINGS. ////
S tier: the best of the best. will always go back to watch.
A tier: awesome, will return to watch
B tier: may periodically rewatch
C tier: probably won’t rewatch unless i’m on a XYYYHTL marathon
D tier: not my favorite tbh
note: i’m not including most of the earlier seasons cause i don’t remember enough of them
starting with:
D tier
⭐️ Dear Little Wish (2014) ⭐️
or, the one where the goats have to grant all the wishes from this tree to send this old star back home.
i don’t think i dislike this one at all, but i’ve never gone back to rewatch it since the first time i saw it in 2017 and tbh, i don’t even remember the ending. just not memorable to me.
🧵 The Tailor’s Closet (2014) 🧵
or, the one where the goats have to make clothes to send their sentient tool friends back to the tailor’s world.
similar situation to DLW. i’ve never gone back to rewatch this season because of the fact that it’s just not… memorable. all i remember is wolffy getting stuck in the tailor’s world at the end lmao. it reminds me quite a bit of Paddi the Amazing Chef.
i will give it extra points for the theme song, though. 3/4 lyrical music is underrated.
❤️‍🩹 Love You Babe (2014) ❤️‍🩹
or, the one where wolnie gets brainwashed into thinking she’s a goat and is paddi’s mom.
…mkay. this one fully deserves the D tier more than any other (except maybe Adventures in the Primitive World). they literally just recycled PTAC. if cpe wanted a second season of PTAC, they could have just… made a second season of PTAC!!
i literally never finished watching this season because of how much it annoyed me lmfao. so I have no idea what the hell happened to wolnie at the end. this is probably one of only 3 seasons I genuinely dislike.
🪶 Adventures in the Primitive World (2015) 🪶
or, the one where the goats and wolffy are teleported back to the world from the 7th movie.
yanno, i like this premise, but?? the primitive characters are so annoying. forgive me for being a weslie stan lmfao but the primitive chief kept using weslie as this scapegoat and kept gaslighting him and shit.
the 7th movie is also the worst one imo, so it never gave me much to begin with. it makes me think they had the idea for the season before the movie and ended up switching it at the end.
now the theme song for this season is by far my most favorite. a shame that it had to be wasted on such a shitty season ngl.
ultimately, the shitty characters, the poor plot line, and the awkward continuation of a not so nice movie just made this season really lackluster and unexciting for me. this is probably my least favorite of all.
🔫 War of Invention (2017) 🔫
or, the one where they go to some other planet and start… inventing stuff.
maybe this judgement of mine is unfair because i never got past a few episodes in, but i had a good reason to quit it.
the animation style. the. fucking. holy shit. literally i am never watching this season properly just because of that. thank god cpe dropped it because what the fuck man.
C TIER
🚘 Happy Formula (2015) 🚘
or, the one where they all get these vehicles that hatched from eggs.
this season kinda marked the turn of more… themed seasons, i suppose. while a plot here doesn’t really exist, the individual episodes are interesting enough for me to revisit at times. i loved weslie in this season tbh.
(how many times did wolffy get ticketed for speeding???)
🐳 Adventures in the Sea (2017) 🐳
or, the one where the goats and wolffy travel to the ocean for the ocean orb.
the second in the Marching to the New Wonderland series.
see, i originally gave this one a rank B, but that felt a bit generous. some of the episodes are just too redundant and uninteresting. though my favorite part was by far the part where slowy got stuck on wolffy’s submarine because his handprint was needed to stabilize the bomb lol.
the theme song is also a massive bop!! i unironically listen to it all the time. so while this season wasn’t especially interesting, the oceanic theme follows MTTNW perfectly.
👽 The Intriguing Alien Guests (2020) 👽
or, the one where weslie discovers he has a little sister, who is getting hunted down by aliens.
third Mighty Little Defenders season. unusually low ranking for one of the newer seasons. but it’s just… a bit boring. apart from the conclusion of weslie’s family story plus the intro of bingbing, this season didn’t hook me that much.
i think this season was really just an excuse to 1. use up all the old ideas for the earliest seasons they never put into place, and 2. pull the angst card. literally almost every episode just looks like rewritten versions of wolffy trying to catch the goats, except it’s the aliens catching bingbing. and they made us all cry at the end with weslie and his family lol.
overall not the most fun but i appreciate the nod to their beginnings.
B Tier
🍳 Paddi the Amazing Chef (2013) 🍳
or, the one where the goats have to cook for this mouse to send her and her sentient kitchen too friends back to their universe.
this season is a lot more memorable to me for an older season. i like the focus on paddi tbh (he was originally intended to be the main character of the show).
the pink mouse girl got attached to wolffy, which made things awkward lol. i recall an episode about trying to make it snow in june + the ones where they had to enter the mouse’s dreams to find her favorite food.
overall, a playful and fun season with a boppy theme song!
🌦️ Flying Island: The Sky Adventure (2018) 🌦️
or, the one where the goats take their trains, now planes, into the sky.
the third edition of MTTNW <3 originally this was supposed to be space adventures i believe, but i do think the sky fits the series better here, after ocean and earth.
here we see the real beginnings of the more plot-based seasons. my favorite was the balloon island and how wolffy & the goats & the citizens worked to drag the town out of the tornado!!
🏀 Dunk for Victories (2021) 🏀
or, the one where the characters play basketball.
though this one was unexciting to begin with, it grew on me. i learned quite a bit about basketball lmao.
tibbie got some serious character development here. i’m happy that cpe has kept her personality and girliness while also removing her from just being the token female character in the cast.
(also i’m gonna take this opportunity to say. i love Dunk for Future (the movie based on this) so so much <3)
my one gripe is that the… thing about the robots didn’t really get solved?? i know it was mostly answered in the next season but i don’t particularly like it when they just leave us hanging like this ngl. i suppose they made it work though.
🍃 The Season Towns (2023) 🍃
or, the one where the goats and wolffy have to defeat the evil king ruling over this fantasy land.
this is the newest season, the sixth in the MLD series. i binged it and?? it’s quite good! they really set us up to expect a straightforward superhero story, but then at episode 45 onwards, things start to get… very interesting very fast. i knew that xiaomu guy was sus…
also, weslie getting possessed by the evil king?? weslie and wolffy FUSING TOGETHER at the end???? >>>
i didn’t particularly like the… inconsistency with the “defense stones,” but other than that, this wasn’t a bad season. i’ll probably rewatch it later down the line.
A Tier
🚂 Marching to the New Wonderland (2016) 🚂
or, the one where the goats take their trains and deliver a vital seed to the center of a huge tree.
when i had my XYYYHTL reawakening in 2017, this is the first season i watched. this was the last season to use the old art style.
can i just say… the aesthetics and the music here are so good??? i love all of the new characters they introduced!! i wish cpe had used the soundtrack again in later seasons but also i enjoy their habit of using music specific to each season.
would have made this S tier except the plot itself didn’t quite meet the mark. but i really really love this season!!
🔎 The Little Detective (2016) 🔎
or, the one where weslie and wolffy have become detectives.
see the reason i like this season so much is because weslie gets to flex his smarts lol. this was also the first one with the new animation style.
also, the friendship is developing consistently between weslie and wolffy?? like. the two will see each other the forest and just be like “oh hey, what are you up to here” and weslie’s not gonna be scared and wolffy’s not gonna attack. seriously it jarred me a bit at first.
i really want to see a sequel to this. just then spending every episode solving cases, convicting the guilty, proving the innocent. didn’t have a plot quite as well as the S tiers but still so good!!
🐱 Against the Dark Force (2020) 🐱
or, the one where all except paddi and wolffy get brainwashed and turned into cats.
seriously the catification of these characters was hilarious and wonderful. it’s like taking the lid off the id lol. ngl, guxin lang deserved better, poor guy. the powers that got introduced in this season are wonderful, especially with how wolffy learns to control his lightning.
this season kept me on my feet. i didn’t want to stop binging it at all. it’s action after action, and then of course there’s the angst of weslie almost dying (cpe is surprisingly sadistic, huh…)
paddi’s character development was incredible here. that’s all i’ll really say cause it’s something you really need to see for yourself!!
the main reason why this is not in S tier is because the ending was… a bit weak imo?? it’s the most basic Power of Friendship(TM) ever and i just. it didn’t really land as hard as i think cpe wanted it to, which was unfortunate.
but the theme song is KILLER and i am definitely coming back to watch this one!!
🤖 Ultimate Battle: The Next Generation (2021) 🤖
or, the one where wolffy and weslie get teleported 15 years into the future, where everything has become all about robots.
this is the 4th MLD season. and i have some stuff to say.
first of all, cpe was clearly feeling nostalgic when they made this. the first episode uses music that hasn’t been used since MTTNW. also, making weslie&wolffy jump 15 years into the future? assuming this season was made in 2020, that means it was also 15 years prior than XYYHTL debuted.
second of all, i think i know where the idea of this season came from. wolffy always says he’ll definitely be back. so what if haha omg one day he didn’t? this is played with so many times in the season and it hurts so good :’)
third of all, the episode where it’s weslie’s birthday and he&wolffy get locked inside a freezer. and they’re just laughing about it. and this is the seasonal angst card all over again.
fourth of all, everyone being turned into robots. tibbie being the Impostor in the station. her backstory being revealed and developed. wolffy slowly getting turned. weslie helping them gain sentience. please omfg
and then the plot twist of the professor turning out to be a robot, deploying all the previous MLD villains.
ngl there was a massively misssed opportunity to add something about weslie’s family?? why didn’t they give us something about bingbing growing up without her brother, or smarc/lily grieving their son??? oml. see this is why this isn’t S tier. good but i’m just too salty abt this part lol.
S Tier
⚔️ Mighty Little Defenders (2019) ⚔️
or, the one where the wolves and goats become friends.
of course MLD had to be here. of course. this was the big one, the one that changed everything. see my favorite favorite tripe ever is enemies to best friends and look, weslie and wolffy kinda had a 900k platonic slow burn building up for the past movies and seasons. and it finally cracked here!!
see i also love the development of all the wolves in general. like. wolffy yes, he’s questioning his entire life, does he want friends or belonging?? but ultimately he chose his friends. you can tell when he decides not to question it anymore.
also, the seven evil wolves. it makes a lot of sense. the toxic wolf spirit reminds me a lot of toxic masculinity tbh. they all got pushed to be this certain idealized image of a wolf but this ended up resulting in a lot of unhealed trauma for all of them. and it wasn’t until they unpacked it that they were able to truly be themselves.
i used to find wolffy annoying and quite bothersome but now? he’s starting to rival weslie as my favorite character. i really value the multidimensionality that was built.
i was sort of expecting this season for a while now. in almost all of the past seasons and movies, weslie and wolffy learned to somehow work together and trust each other, and i was like, how does wolffy even have the heart to still eat someone he’s saved the world with, lol. cpe did a wonderful job this season was perfect i love it
⏳ Rescue Across Time (2019) ⏳
or, the one where the characters time travel to same the world.
the final MTTNW season, and my favorite season of the entire show.
1. the continued character development of from MLD. wolffy’s new friendship with the frosts, and how this helps to uncover a new side of him. yet he’s not immune to his old ways, because he almost destroys it at the end by pretty much betraying them.
2. the time travel. i am a sucker for anything time related in shows and movies!! this show was the perfect one to mess with time because of the fact that you have all these teens or adults who watched this as kids and are now grown, so referencing the old movies and seasons is… oh boy. punches you in the gut really.
3. the backstory of wolffy. it’s finally explained and there couldn’t have been a better way to do it. the ANGST oh my god. he’s still struggling to process the trauma he had from losing his dad and also the generational trauma that his dad probably passed onto him. we have weslie trying to process the grief of his parents ditching him for outer space, and slowy working through his unresolved feelings for stacy. like. dang since when did this kids show get so dark?? my god!!
4. the plot twist. classic “villain reveals true identity” trope but it hits especially hard here when you’ve seen the foreshadowing and all the little details. then it finally ties back the ending from MLD. seriously i fucking gasped this was done SO perfectly.
kay. cpe outdid themselves here. the time travel theme was perfect for concluding MTTNW. the grief, the nostalgia, the angst, the sequel to MLD. i’m always coming back to this season ALWAYS. did not expect a kids show to get this amazing but it did and i’m in love.
🐶 The Great Rescue (2022) 🐶
or, the one where the dark force has infected the nearby dog kingdom.
the second season of ADTF, and the 5th MLD season. just like ADTF, this one really kept me on my feet! action after action!! the goats battling their infected selves in the power locks! wolffy slowly getting infected! an explanation for the origin of the dark force at last!
wolnie’s bond with mingri and tibbie was honestly unexpected but i adore it so so much. also, just. wolffy and weslie battling each other at the end and the heart stabbing moment when it looks like wolffy’s died. aaaaJOJSOJS
see now having this season, i understand why they left off ADTF where they did. i wonder if they’re gonna make an ADTF 3…?
well that was a long ass post BUT BUT that is it for all the XYYHTL seasons!! i should rank their theme songs next tbh. i think i know which one is my no. 1, maybe my top 5??
wish this fandom were a little more popular in the western world because i LOVE it so so so much 🥹🥹🥹❤️

Sunday spent by myself.
So yesterday, I had the whole day to myself, no plans, no commitments, no one waiting, no one calling, I could be wherever I wanted to be, so I booked tickets for movies (both for myself), in morning it was Oppenheimer and evening it was Psycho-Pass.
I woke up late, I thought I'd miss the movie, it was going to start at 11:30 and I left home at 11:29, I knew I was doing everything wrong in this life at that moment, I simply cursed myself and rushed, I was lucky to get a rickshaw right away when I got down from my building, I request the rickshaw driver to drive a bit fast and he even agreed, he drove so fast that all my hairs messed up for a moment I held both my hands so they'd look okay. The rickshaw helped me reach around 11:35, when I got to the mall, I immediately got the lift and I was there, turns out the movie hadn't started yet, I had to wait with the whole crowd to get into the screen allocated.
I can't explain how good Oppenheimer was, I got goosebumps and teared a bit, I couldn't help but feel reverent for Nolan and all the actors and creators. When the movie was over, I headed to McDonald's and redeemed a coupon cause I was very hungry and wanted to enjoy a meal. I had an oreo mcflurry, gosh it tasted good. After the meal I decided to commute and head to this other place where I had booked my another ticket, I had to commute two metro lines, it wasn't enthusiastic but it felt peaceful watching the concrete landscapes.
When I reached the other place, I didn't know what exactly was the place, I thought it was a mall but all it had was restaurants and cafes, I was full so I didn't want to enter those, so I ended up lurking around and sitting peacefully outside, I simply waited for two hours to pass. I noticed couples, rich kids, thier friends and girls in pink and magenta, most people were for Barbie.
Then I headed for my movie which had no audience, simply 8-10 folks including me, but I knew I'd enjoy this one because I remember watching psycho-pass when I was 17, no one bet an eye then, although I had only seen two seasons I knew it would be worth and once in life time opportunity to watch this gem on big screen, and luckily this movie was prequel of season 3, I felt on the 9th cloud when I learnt now season 3 would make more sense cause I tried binge watching (could watch 2 episodes) just the night before to make sure it felt relevant atleast.
And gosh, I can't tell you how much Akane inspired me, I use to think a part of me fell so hard for Aakari that I'd never feel anyone, but here I was, laughing at my old naive self, I remembered those good old days, as if everything that I chose to be back then already had a reason, I was cooler already in many ways, Pschyo-Pass as an underrated Anime has so much of Sci-fi, philosophy and action. The movie plot did not bore me or for a second, neither did I keep second guessing what was ultimately going to happen, Akane has my heart, I don't care whatever people call me, I'm hardcore simping for Akane, she is simply a badass, genuine and amazing inspector.
And it was a cherry on cake to witness such a good movie, obviously Nolan nonetheless is the GOAT of movie creator but Anime has a different place, and that too such a vague and dystopian one.

Saw your ask game and became fixated
Favorite Album: I wish I could say the Mix CD that my sister played for me, 21 TMG songs from something like 8 different albums, and no track names. Perfect. But actual albums, I guess Sunset Tree? It’s the only one that doesn’t leave me feeling like I’m slighting the rest of the discography by putting it in my top 3 😅
Favorite Alpha Song: I have so much nostalgia for Alpha Insipiens, it’s just not fair to the rest of that series
Favorite ‘Going to’ song: Going to Georgia, easy answer for so many reasons
Favorite album from the 2020s: Bleed Out was a large factor in my picking up and learning an instrument again
Favorite lofi era album: Zopilote Machine, largely because I don’t know when things stop being considered lofi. The first three songs on my mix CD were Alpha Incipens, Bad Priestess, and Going to Georgia, though
Have you listened to I only Listen to the Mountain Goats/favorite episode: I listened to the first season twice. Honestly can’t remember my favorite episode, but Mess Inside was probably my favorite cover
Favorite Media TMG was used in: Only lucky enough to encounter them in Welcome to Nightvale
Have you read any of JD’s books: Only Wolf in White Van, but I really want to read more, especially Devil House
Current favorite song: I have never recovered from Sax Rohmer #1
Songs you think are Underrated/wish more people knew: Sax Rohmer #1, Up the Wolves, Home Again Garden Grove, Autoclave… so so many that I just don’t hear anybody talking about

the fact Yandere High School had so many interesting characters despite being in the background is probably why people found it more entertaining than Tokyo Soul tbh. Prepare for another long ass post wOO!
The thing I noticed between the side characters and minor/major antagonists in yhs and ts, is that the yhs characters stayed relevant until the series they’re in ended or something happened to them. Look at Salex, although she wasn’t there for long when she was alive, she made stuff a lot more interesting throughout the series like the mystery to her death, why her ghost would keep appearing, etc (same applies to Gareth). There’s also Dom who’s been recurring antagonist in YANDERE and the first half of yhs, but ever since he was kicked out for kissing Sam’s alter ego he started to become better and eventually joined the trio, becoming friends with them.
There’s Yuki who was a side character at first, but was later revealed to be one of the main antagonists and the cause of most deaths throughout the series. Chan (one of the best rip offs of Ayano I’ve seen), who Yuki framed, was believed to be an antagonist after Sam and Taurtis broke into her house but later became Taurtis’ girlfriend and was overall friendly. And if you’re interested in the lore around the world of yhs, there’s also the fish people and Rowan, who explained there’s been multiple wars before until the rights of the fish people were established.
Character designs in the series were also cool, along with the creativity of them- Soul is a literal human shaped owl that wears clothes and later becomes Sookie’s s/o, PowerDragon had SUCH a cute design for a slime person and he was funny for a side character, Yuro being half cat gave him his cons for not being able to swim (same applies to Soul and PD), and etc!
There were also a few smart characters here and there although they only stayed on the sidelines- there’s StarForce who’s surprisingly underrated, but he’s shown to be very smart throughout the series, there’s Silly who’s 2 years younger than her classmates but still made it to 2nd year high school (and she can handle firearms, woah), there’s Majo Ellen who does run their fortune stand for money, but they’re still wise and correct with the fortunes they give out, which makes a pretty good business lmao. Speaking of business, there was also J, who’s filthy rich and even a lawyer. He’s still goofy in his own way, but that doesn’t stop him from knowing what he’s investing into and what he wants.
I could go on with yhs side character forEVER, but this post is to compare them with the characters within ts, which I’ll get onto now!
The first new side character we see is Kiyu, played by Yuki’s actor and was even voiced for a few episodes. She’s a one eyed ghoul and a childhood friend of Yuki, who I thought was gonna stay relevant and make the trio have a 4th member, but she sadly stayed on the sidelines. There was old man Kurokuma who was very creepy, could’ve caused the trio some trouble, but again he stayed in the shadows- same applies to Cringy George who was Jorge’s online date. He first appeared in the panty shop, then became a background character in the school right after, not really talking much or anything. Speaking of Jorge, he was one of Senior Loro’s goats that was relevant with figuring out Tori’s death, but went to the sidelines after Chupa replaced Tori.
I know it’s supposed to be a more normal school compared to Akademi, but it doesn’t bring the same charm yhs and YANDERE had, since the characters made it so unique with staying interactable throughout the story! We also had a sneak peak to their pasts or daily lives, like Ellen having a few friends with them selling stuff, Chan having weapons around her while watching stuff, Yuki with her mafia business, JTS even with building his own house and Hidden mourning his death. There’s a few characters like Soul, Sookie, Pd, and Invader going on social media to post something funny we can see once in a while, and the fact that they’re just so,,, not like regular background characters get me. So much. I love it when stories do that.
The school in Tokyo was supposed to be a more normal school since the boys were under witness protection, but no one really questioned why they just appeared. This is probably why I wanna rewrite ts SO BAD but meh, it is what it is and it was a bit more bland compared to yhs.
But hey, if you like the concept of aliens and a few mysteries in this sequel of yhs then you do you! I didn’t find it too entertaining, and I found one of my reasons why which I explained in the post. I’ll probably give it another shot to see if I missed out on anything, but man, yhs is such a special series that’ll remain in my heart for yeARS
That’s it though! I’ll probably be making yet another post about this but this time, with the storylines of both series and how I find yhs’ to be better. Honestly I think I’m biased and I should really give ts the benefit of the doubt, but hey it’s fun writing these! Again I apologize if there’s any grammatical errors and feel free to share your own thoughts hehe

Lukloe and Chlonath, if you please!
Ok, Lukloe it is then!
Cons
They never interacted (at least not on screen). The ONE time that they “met” was Chloe as Miracle Queen and she insulted his clothes. Not to mention that Luka was being mind controlled.
Chloe is mean/rude/conceited.
Even IF Chloe would like Luka in the same way she likes Adrien, I don’t know if Luka would be so quick to fall for her or give her a chance. Chloe bullies not only the person that he actually DOES have a crush on, but also his own sister.
Chloe shouldn’t need a person to help her change because
The person is not her therapist. It’s not their job.
Chloe should be able to change on her own.
Some of the things that she does she should know that is wrong. Sometimes, you don’t need someone to help you do the right thing.
It’s probably best if Chloe works on herself first before getting into a relationship.
Pros
Luka might see something through Chloe’s cold and conniving exterior. He might see a person who’s not evil, but a person who just has been hurt, neglected, and alone.
Luka could bring the best out of Chloe and help her become a better person. It’s not something that he HAS to do, but something that would be nice to do.
Luka might be more forgiving and helpful than we see.
Their each other’s inverted colors.
Chloe already has SOME kind of attraction to him.
Chloe is confident, a trait that Luka MIGHT like the most.
They COULD have some cute and funny moments.
CHLOE REDEMPTION!
The different kinds of AUs, headcanons and fanfics that could resonate from this ship is ENDLESS and I’m all here for it!
They generally look ground together and I think they would have some cute kids.
Good Boy x Bad Girl?
Chloe can apologize to Juleka and try to make up for her mistakes.
Grade: Fiction; Between A (I love it) and B (It's very cute), Canon; E (I Don’t Really Like It)

Chlonath………..
Cons
Chloe has bullied Nathaniel throughout the years.
Nathaniel doesn’t like Chloe (for obvious reasons).
They barely interact on screen.
Again, Chloe is mean, rude and conceited.
Again, Chloe needs to really work on herself before getting into a relationship.
Honestly, Nathaniel needs to work on himself too before getting into a relationship. From episodes like Evillustrator and Reverser, this boy seriously has some issues that he needs to work on. It’s a miracle that he’s in a relationship with Marc after how he treated him.
Also, Nathaniel’s with Marc.
While we’re at it, Chloe has a crush on Adrien.
Pros
Maybe they can work on their issues and maybe they can do that together?
Chloe redemption.
Chloe can show Nathaniel that she’s changed?
Nathaniel likes drawing heroes and Chloe likes to cosplay is them.
They COULD learn from each other? Nathaniel can call out Chloe on her crap and Chloe can show Nathaniel how to be assertive?
They would make some pretty kids (a common theory is that they would have twins).
Character development and good writing does✨👐wonders👐✨.
BeeFox shipping.
Grade: Fanfiction; B (It's very cute) Canon; Between D (Neutral) and E (I don’t really like it)

Conclusion
Both ships are cute in theory, but needs work. However, considering how the creator feels about Chloe, I don’t think neither ship is gonna happen anytime soon.
Afterthought
It’s a shame too. I think either ship can work out with the proper writing. Also, what I mean by BeeFox shipping is:
Sabrina - A common kwami swap choice for her besides the dog is the bee and fox.
Nathaniel- A common kwami swap choice for him besides the goat and rooster is the fox.
Chloe - is Queen Bee.
Ayla - is Rena Rouge.
Chloe x Alya was a popular ship in the early days of Miraculous.
Though underrated, Sabrina x Nathaniel was a possible choice.
Bee! Chloe + Fox! Nathaniel = BeeFox shipping 😇
Send Me a MLB Ship!
