Sunrun results: my data
I have sunrun and I think you should see what my results are. Between 2020 and 2023 I think I paid about 12-14¢ per kilowatt. I do not have a battery, I sell my power to the grid for credits to get it later. My "battery" is the public community. Blackouts are not an issue in my area, especially not ones lasting longer than a few seconds once every few years.
I pay $95.00 per month*. No increase for 20 years.
*This year a new Illinois tax for leased equipment started so my payments for 2025 onward will be $102.60 but I'm not upset at Sunrun for this, this is unrelated to them completely.
Which means for the sun's power I paid 12.424¢
:( No savings :(
But! No CO² :)
I'll gather my electric bills to show what I was buying electricity for when there was no sun (like at night). I used to get my power from a nuclear company, then a wind company, then the nuclear company again, before I switched to just general ComEd.

Trump's election means that Washington DC is going to be useless for the next four years. Useless at best. Nothing important is going to get fixed if it has to get permission from the President of the United States. So ignore the President of the United States as much as you can and do what lots of other people were doing even before the election: saving the world ourselves.
You're going to hear this from me over and over again, in varying words, whenever I can give you a beautiful example like this one:
Dave Roberts, whose Volts podcast is the absolute premier source on zero-carbon electrification, interviewed the CEO of Sunrun, Mary Powell (transcript included at that link, if you'd rather read it) live on stage and, if this doesn't give you hope, I don't know what to offer you. She details all the progress her company has made, the progress her company is making, and the progress she's confident Sunrun can make in the next few years. And it is a lot of progress.
No matter how little help she gets from DC, which help Sunrun no longer needs. Not even if they try to stop her. Sunrun is ignoring Washington DC and getting on with saving the world, one solar plus battery system with built-in resilience and opt-out personal for-profit virtual power plant system for the price of your current energy bill or less per customer.

This was hands down one of THE BEST books I've ever read like holy cow it was so much better than the Harry potter books themselves
Also I love the way you wrote Harry like he's just some guy trying to do his job and for that I salute him
Also 150 points to Flitwick for putting the minister in a box lmao that was golden
Also Scorpious been a nerd for muggle engineering? We love that
Also love Mrs. Baker and Mr. Gamp's nerdyness about transport and engineering go queens
Hope Eliza gets the therapy she needs and becomes the next care of magical creatures professor fr fr
This was the longest and most incredible piece of writing I have ever consumed and if you ever make anything like that again PLEASE tell me cause I will eat that shit up like a man who can feel his stomach start to eat himself from the inside form hunger fr fr
So, I'm always always happy to nerd out about snakeskins, and I love it so much, but.
I did not actually write it.
I shared my personal doc of it with the proposed ending after Sunny's blog was deleted but all that's in it is the fanfition.net version with some changed names for my own reading experience. Like I used Lukas Bondevik for Norway because sunny used that in the original version and I think I took the names for the siblings from the ao3 rewrite iirc because they're the correct Italian version.
Yeah that's in that, some blog posts of the now deleted @lsunnyc blog and an ao3 snippet I commissioned from sunny. But yeah I did not actually write it sorry for the misunderstanding 🙈. I tried to make it a bit clearer in the post!

Excerpt from this story from Heatmap News:
American solar manufacturer First Solar may be the big winner from the slew of tariffs Donald Trump announced yesterday against the world’s trading partners. Sorry, make that basically the only winner among renewable energy companies.
In a note to clients this morning, Jefferies analyst Julien Dumoulin-Smith wrote that “in this inflationary environment, we expect FSLR's domestic manufacturing to be the clear winner” in the long term.
For everyone else in the renewable industry — for example, an equipment manufacturer like inverter company Enphase, which has been trying to move its activities away from China — “we perceive all costs to head higher, contributing to a wider inflation narrative.”
First Solar’s’s stock is up almost 4% in early trading as the broader market reels from the global tariffs. Throughout the rest of the solar ecosystem, there’s a sea of red. Enphase is down almost 8%. Chinese inverter manufacturer Sungrow is down 7%. Solar installer Sunrun’s shares are down over 10%. The whole S&P 500 is down 4%, while independent power producers such as Vistra and Constellation and turbine manufacturer GE Vernova are down around 10% as expected power demand has fallen.
First Solar “is currently the largest domestic manufacturer of solar panels and is in the midst of expanding its domestic manufacturing footprint, which should serve as a competitive advantage over its peers,” Morgan Stanley analyst Andrew Perocco wrote in a note to clients Thursday morning.
Nor has First Solar been afraid to fight for its position in the global economy. It is part of a coalition of American solar manufacturers that have been demanding protections against Southeast Asian solar exporters, claiming that they are part of a scheme by Chinese companies to avoid preexisting solar tariffs. In 2023, 80% of American solar imports came from Southeast Asia, according to Reuters.
Tariff rates specific to solar components manufactured in those countries will likely be finalized later this month. Those will come in addition to the new tariffs, which will go into effect on April 9.
But the biggest question about First Solar — and the American renewables industry as a whole — remains unanswered: the fate of the Inflation Reduction Act. The company benefits both from tax credits for advanced manufacturing and investment and production tax credits for solar power.
“Government incentive programs, such as the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (the “IRA”), have contributed to this momentum by providing solar module manufacturers, project developers, and project owners with various incentives to accelerate the deployment of solar power generation,” the company wrote in a recent securities filing.
If those tax credits are at risk, then First Solar may not be a winner so much as the fastest runner ahead of an advancing tide.

complaints, 5/5/25
The orthodontist cut away the wire that was cutting up the inside of my cheek and replaced it with rubber separators last week, and that was nice for a while. but today he replaced the rubber with metal rings that are cutting up my tongue. I stay losing!
I've got solar panels on my roof. From SunRun. Which I've now heard are being sued by multiple people in Massachusetts for false promises on lowering bills[link] ... instead of the homeowner getting credits for power generated apparently the company is taking the credits on top of homeowners paying them for the power. I haven't checked my bills. And from the news stories, they are a pain to deal with. And I'm one of the ones in the 20 yr contract thought I don't plan on staying in my house for 20 yrs but they told me I could sell it on to the next person but now its maybe not? argh.
In fights with neighbors I used to do small favors for but when I tried to explain I've been too sick/in too much pain to even clean my own house, let alone help anyone else, they don't want to talk to me anymore. All because I had the audacity to start with 'you know, people only text me when they want something from me" when people were texting me wanting things from me, on my birthday, same day i lost my health insurance. Sorry I'm not in a good mood my life, health, and bank account are going to hell! No favors or smiles, just crying over here! Sorry old broads, that you counted on me to be young and able-bodied forever.
Speaking of, my over 2 yr long headache intensified while driving Sunday and I threw up all over myself and my car. I tried to clean it but it all still smell. I cried on the front steps. I know those neighbors saw and heard me. no help or consolation.
Also, really miss my boyfriend. He's where he needs to be, getting his mental health and life in order (as much as possible) but I miss him. He gave me a brief call to tell me he misses me too (not allowed to sue a cellphone there, only the office phone for a few minutes every few days). No idea how we're going to make things work when he does get back, as I can't loan him anymore money, he's down to $200 in his bank account, and can't physically work anymore... and its not like one can ever be cured from multiple past severe traumas, even with a month's worth of intensive in-patient treatment at a very nice, picturesque resort-like facility near the mountains.
Also, can't help but think that somewhere there's some cruel person or persons laughing at the whole situation. "Who would want to date a middle-aged chubby Ace woman? A guy who's all messed up? Yeah seems about right. Haha, losers." No one has said this mind you, but I'm sure there's someone out there thinking it.

Wait, you're really lsunnyc??? I used to follow you back in the day... like in 2018ish? Glad to see you back! Is there any chance you'll be updating Snakeskins, or will it remain a wip? (I'm fine with whatever status you leave Snakeskins in, I'm just curious).
Oh boy oh boy another ask I didn't see for months because I wasn't checking this app (im so sorry)
But yeah! I'm LSunnyC! Sunruner on AO3 and FFN.
Snakeskins' AO3 Rewrite is on indefinite Hiatus because JKR was really in the thick of her transphobic comments when I was doing the rewrite, and I just don't want to contribute in that fandom right now. Ditto how I fell out of Hetalia more and more as the OG creator was getting... weird? Weirder?
I'm currently pitching a proper novel to agents on Twitter, and drafting the sequel! I have finally (finally) made the jump to actually trying to get published.

Now, it's your turn to make a difference. Welcome to the Wayne Enterprises' Green Growth Challenge,' where your entrepreneurial spirit meets sustainability.
Task Description: Participants will be given existing startups known for their sustainability efforts and propose strategies to scale them further. Your task is to develop a sustainability-focused strategy to enhance the startup's impact.
Startup Options:
Impossible Foods: Scaling up plant-based meat substitutes to reduce carbon emissions.
Ecolife Recycling: Expanding electronic waste recycling efforts to reduce e-waste.
Grocery Delivery Service (e.g., Instacart, FreshDirect): Making grocery delivery services more sustainable, reducing waste.
Urban Farming Startup (e.g., AeroFarms): Scaling vertical farming to reduce food miles and water usage.
Renewable Energy Startup (e.g., Sunrun): Expanding residential solar panel installations to promote clean energy.

I wonder if there's a service where I can rent a drone operator. My roof is shedding shingles and I can't tell from where.
I have solar panels, but we've found shingles on the other side of the house nowhere near the panels. I need to see if I have to get sunrun involved to fix wherever the shingles are from.
We called a roofing company but once they heard about the panels they chickened out. So I need a drone to go look to see if the panels are involved or if it's from some other area.
None of us can tell from the ground :/
