You can now purchase this beauty through the link in my bio! ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Fun facts: this piece took me an entire year to stitch. It includes more than 60 colors of DMC brand embroidery threads. The image is 9x9inches on 18 count aida cloth. When I originally created this piece, I was hoping to create a whole series of celebrities having a bad day, but they are taking so long and that might never happen. I am, however, working on a 2007 Britney piece that probably will not be finished for a few years. I am constantly trying to figure out how to make cross stitching faster, and the progress is slow.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Last fact: On the surface, this might seem like I am making fun of these celebrities, but it's a lot more complicated than that. We are constantly idolizing celebrities looking at their lives as something we want to mimic. We want to look like them, act like them, live like them and be rich like them. In reality, they are human just like us with human feelings and embarassing moments. We make a huge deal when a celebrity has a human moment, especially if that celebrity is female. Think again friend! 👩‍🎨@maddiestrattonstudio is serving up art history and womxn empowerment in her @arthistorycoloringbook: ‘A Collection of Self-Portraits by Women Artists’. Maddie has graciously made some of her hand-drawn coloring sheets available for our Coloring Day event happening Saturday, Aug. 17th. We’ll also have some of our new original Audre Lorde coloring sheets (drawn by @glitterrrguts) plus other fun feminist coloring sheets. Come by anytime between 11am - 6pm, stay as long as ya like!
