He...is....tired..he comes to my room wholly unannounced at ungodly hours of the night, usually after some big frat party. Things depend on what went down there - some nights I can barely get him undressed before he just crashes in my bed.

Small. Sometimes not,, but usually. He's pretty insecure of how much support he actually needs sometimes - wants to be independent and big but it's just not gonna happen. Especially when he's overtired I need to be a bit sneaky with helping, otherwise we risk some tears. I'd place him at maybe 3-5?? Cuddly. It doesn't matter if he's my pa, my boyfriend or my little bug...he needs to be touching me at all times. He'll take any excuse too - like crossing the street - I don't even have to ask for his hand, it just magically appears in mine! We're in proximity of a couch? We're on it. Actually, no. I'm on the couch, he's on me!

Very cute nicknames. For such a big little dude - he's called such soft things. "Bunny" "puppy" "dove" "babydoll" "angel"...I gear toward those when he's younger (which is most of the time) but when he's in an older headspace I straight up just call him "dude" or variations of "little man" HEHEH

Puppy regressor!! Black lab specifically! His favorite things are head scratchies and fetch! I'm not kidding with fetch. He'll bring me any random objects and try to get me to throw them. I've had to take flip flops out of his mouth. - One thing he does when pup regressed is just chill at my feet and I love it. He's so content to just quietly stick to my side while I work on stuff or relax. I actually got a dog bed to put under my desk for that exact reason!

S. Italy is literally such an interesting character and he gets treated so poorly by people outside of the few that view him as a favorite and its so...I hate to say ironic but...

Like 90% of the time when the people hes "mean" to are people who are either actively mean to him or have hurt him in the past. Hes also like...not even that mean in canon? Hes just blunt with a swearing habit lol. Like the only reason why he "dislikes" Germany is because hes being protective of his brother. When its just the two of them interacting without N. Italy being implied in any context they actually seem to get a long well, I mean he trusts Germany enough to give(*cough* demand *cough*) him a ride and Germany tolerates/is friends enough with him to do so without putting up a fight.

I think he also embodies/deals a lot with that side of mental illness that people like to avoid or pretend is not there when they romanticize it, which unfortunately tends to happen a lot IRL and in fandom/content spaces(as your aware lol). Like he obviously has Issues(tm) but seems to be the only one that really gets put down on by the fandom for having, despite other characters also dealing with some Issues(tm).

And like yeah its super sus the way he gets treated when compared to N. Italy and England. Like all three usually get treated with that stereotypical infintalization especially in shipping spaces. But unlike the two S. Italy is hardly ever given a break by the fans. Like he hardly exists out of shipping zones and when he does its usually that Flat "Im an asshole! grr, Im gonna be mean to my brother who has done nothing wrong ever!" type of vibe lol or its still shipping in SOME context. Like N. Italy stans get REAL mad about any /pos S. Italy content especially when you do it by pointing out N. Italy being a bit of a shit head (which is canon).

Unfortunately I think the fact that he is canonically mixed has a little bit to do with it :(.

Yeah, like...Romano's always been a base breaking character. It's a shame because he's so interesting, but it is what it is. It's not as bad as it was back in the old fandom, but he's still pretty polarizing.

Exactly. Like...Spain tried to trade him for Veneziano that one time, and Veneziano isn't all that nice to Romano. Both Romano and Veneziano are at fault for their relationship being bad. And yeah, blunt and swearing a lot =/= mean. And he has reasons for disliking Germany. It's not like Romano hates Germany for no reason lmao. And people ignore that there have been instances of them getting along.

And god YES. Romano definitely has some of the "uglier" traits of mental illness, so people aren't as willing to give him a pass, since they can't/won't romanticize it (of course, they shouldn't be romanticizing mental illness at all). Hetalia fandom being ableist? It's more likely than you think.

Yeah, when he's not being shipped with America/Spain/Belgium/whoever, it's almost like people just...ignore him, or turn him into a caricature of himself. And yeah, I've noticed that people act like he's the only one in the wrong with his relationship with Veneziano...like no??? Like I said before, Veneziano really isn't all that nice to Romano (remember that one time he couldn't bring himself to say one nice thing about Romano), and both of them are at fault for the lousy state of their relationship.

And in regards to England...the reasons the person who made the post on r/hetalia for disliking Romano were traits that Romano had in common with England, with the sole exception of hating Germany specifically. It really didn't leave a good taste in my mouth that they singled out Romano in particular.

I...figured it had something to do with the fact that Romano is canonically mixed. Though if you point that out, these people will act like you just threatened them.

This fandom is honestly such a hypocritical mess a makes me want to scream.

So glad you asked, Amanda!  My new one Not Invited is a little angsty, a lot sweet, just a sprinkle of smut. Wedding Objections are a fave trope for me.. Favorite line? Hilights? Their vows/Stan's speech in You'll Be Mine And I'll Be Yours. The chapter in Feeling Like I Missed You titled 'the dark days when the fear crept into my mind' is SUPER important to me and I'm always worried that it doesn't play like I want it to. Also, a little earlier, Stan's Pennywise torture (same time as the doors, the girls bathroom, the clubhouse, and Bill's basement).

Exit Light, Enter Night is a Nightmare on Elm Street inspired bloodbath in which Richie and Eddie are the only Losers that survive. and it only has like 90 hits and it hurts me a little, tbh. I think that's largely because I didn't get it up before Halloween but I'm a spooky bitch and it's a horror movie Fandom so I thought maybe.

To Me That's What You're Worth is a soft spot for me- Gilmore Girls x Reddie au? It's based around the plot where Luke and Lorelai get together so it's v fuzzy and warm.

Also, both of my SansaxTyrion fics are very dear to my heart. As I lay beside the fire is sort of a post s8 fic. It was only a word is a soulmate au fic and those are (strangely) lacking in the GOT world but like... I'm just really proud of those, especially because I had taken a hiatus from writing and watching dumb and dumber fuck this show into the ground in 6 short episodes made me realize that nothing I write could be that bad.

121 was written the day I finished Stranger Things s1 because I had been seeing an influx of ST posts but still getting doctor who and was having a hard time discerning my elevens and it still took me a hot minute to post it because I was embarrassed.

So I Learned from you and Reading The Signs are Everlark and, honestly, those two fics were where I really started to feel comfortable as a writer. So I learned from you is still one that I'm massively proud of because it wasn’t an adaptation of any sort. It was completely from my brain.

You Disgust Me Werewolf Baby is pure drarry Christmas fluff. It is a marshmallow with pastel sprinkles.

Warm to the bones is the first smut that I remember feeling good about after writing. It's Rumplestiltskin & Belle and basically she's put under a spell that can only be broken by an orgasm. (Aka my first ever ships were drarry and wolfstar so sex spells are in my brain forever. One of my favorite fics of all time was an accidental marriage enemies to husbands between Draco and Harry and OOF my 14 or 15 year old world was R O C K E D. Like, I still look for it occasionally but I'm like 99% sure it's lost to the internet b/c I'm fairly certain it was on LiveJournal).

the first character i ever fell in love with: Agent Kallus. It was either the promo video or the actual pilot episode itself, but in all likelihood, the sideburns were probably involved somehow. If anything, I will say that the second character is Tua, the moment she stepped into the shuttle way back in DoD. Like, yo.

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: Darth Maul. But his usage of his EXPERIMENT 2000 DEGREE KNIFE on Kanan’s eyes, Ezra’s innocence, but most importantly, the Inquisition, is the last straw.

a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: Kanan/Seventh, since FPJ and SMG are married, yeah. Didn’t last long, since now it’s Fifth/Seventh and I don’t particularly trust a majority of the fanbase anymore to make legible, sane, and legal fanwork where Kanan isn’t in a relationship with Hera/where Seventh is in a relationship at all. Yikes.

my ultimate favorite character™: don’t make me choose

prettiest character: All the female characters look good, and as for the ‘handsome’ kind of pretty, Kallus, Kanan, and the prettiest Lasat in the Galaxy.

my most hated character: Kind of hard to like the I/r/o/n Squadron, since their episode had poor characterization for them, building solely off of them being S1 Ezra clones. They could definitely improve though! And I do have a few headcanons on what they’ve been up to since that episode.

* And I definitely LOVE Zeb, that’s why I hate how they keep… ‘minimizing’ him? Like in “Warhead”, as funny as it was, I didn’t like that the crew and the others were like 'woah you can think?’, 'that was actually very smart of you!’, 'ugh can’t you take charge of the base for one day without trouble’, etc. The writers are obviously trying to show us that Zeb is much more than muscle, but c'mon, really? This kind of stuff is how you treat the audience like they’re goldfish as well as disrespecting the character. Instead of conveying the message that 'Zeb is both smart and strong!’, it comes off more as 'Zeb is strong, but secretly smart!’ or something condescending like that.

my NOTP: S/a/b/3/z/r/a, it seems clear to be that they’re just supposed to be like brother and sister. I don’t like a majority of the shippers because they seem to be missing the point (like I remember reading the comments of a clip of where Sabine hug-grabs Ezra in the jetpack chase scene and 90% of it was full of shippers that I swear couldn’t have been older than 12.), but I will say that I like some of the fanart.

favorite episode: “Droids In Distress” (I don’t know, I just watched it a lot back then; in hindsight, I’d say it was a good start to the show), “Empire Day”, “The Honorable Ones”, “The Forgotten Droid” (again, I don’t know, I just liked AP’s and Chopper’s dynamic), “An Inside Man”, “Trials of the Darksaber”, I can safely say “Through Imperial Eyes” because Kallus rests in pepperoni. 😎

saddest death: Hearing Tua died in tSoL way back during Celebration 2015 hit me pretty hard, actually.

favorite season: Season 1 + parts of Season 3, mainly the latter half so far.

least favorite season: Season 2 + the timeskip/transition to Season 3, because it felt like it was rushed; there’s a disconnect between the episodes, especially in the latter half (I suspect it’s due to the writers still being in a TCW mindset, where arcs with completely different stories happened one after the other — not that I’m saying that it’s okay for the writers to do, especially because their intent is obviously for SWR to be in a different format. It’s just that I can see why it happened and I hope that at this point in time, they can at least learn from their mistakes…).

So because of that, new information and the problems are just rapid-fire out of pretty much nowhere instead of foreshadowed or anything like that as well as being solved in a flash, like:

* Hera’s some years of father-daughter estrangement with Cham are dealt with in one episode.* The Inquisitors should’ve done more to build up their credibility, like I thought Seventh was gonna be a rival to Kanan and challenge him as a master to Ezra, but I guess that got given to Maul in the S2 finale.* Fifth is apparently blind, but they didn’t do nothing with that, they could’ve foreshadowed something about it with Kanan, and they also seemed like he was gonna be Seventh’s rival or something (at the time, I imagined it like Ventress and Grievous during TCW), but he ended up just being her lackey.* But no, and then everyone in-universe was like 'eh’, so that ended up being reciprocated by the audience as well.* Also, while we’re on that topic, as 'memetic’ as it was, helisabers really did worsen their credibility than it already was.* I honestly was kind of on the fence about Sabine for a while, since I didn’t like that nothing at least semi-permanently bad happened to her until Season 3 and I just generally don’t like haughty characters that don’t seem to struggle.* Kallus being smug for like the first half of tHO like he’s always been up to that point, and then when he tells his backstory, that attitude is GONE for the rest of the show and then we don’t even get to see the transition from him as a loyal and ruthless Imperial that seemed to enjoy the hunt, to someone who is about the exact opposite.* Ezra’s storyline suffers from something similar, like it looked like it was going somewhere with obsessing with the Sith Holocron and/or doing much more questionable things, but that only gets touched upon in SoS because all of it already happened during the timeskip, so by the time we see Ezra, it’s instead just an excuse for the writers to start having him do more action-y stuff and be problematic (like tWJ).

I like most of the ideas behind them, it’s just that there’s definitely much more to be desired out of them. Yeah, I guess they could do a novel/short story/whatever about these things like the timeskip developments, but that seems kind of sloppy, telling the explanation afterwards instead of showing it when it was the most relevant. I want the writers to respect their characters (and therefore, us) more. It’s certainly possible to do, but it’s not constant; it just comes and goes, as seen here and in TCW.

Q&A With Broke Face

1. Where are we talking from today? I am currently writing from the kitchen table as I've been gently nudged out of my home studio, dubbed Found Sound Laboratory, by my daughters and their friends while they have an impromptu jam session on drums, an old Casio (named Casios Clay), pink ministrat, and a cheap radio shack mic plugged into an even cheaper tremolo amp. It's polyphonic insanity that sounds better than anything I could spend months trying to perfect in GarageBand. 2. Where did you get your artist name from? BrokeFace is a name that came out one day while I was writing lyrics and I dug it. It's become a persona I can use to really get to the crux of something I'm meditating on. I personally might not be able to point out a very painful truth about me to myself, which I consider one of my responsibilities as a writer, but BrokeFace has that freedom and it's been quite liberating, if not a little harrowing. 3. Music-wise what are you working on right now? Are you currently promoting a single or album? I am currently finishing an album titled Dirty White. It's a mixtape of pieces I've been working on since I started writing my own music about 4 years ago. I've recently felt a very strong sense of what my sound is, which is something I haven't been able to grasp since I began to make my own music. As I was putting the album together, it was shaping up to be a chronicle of that journey. I was also able to find a through-line sound wise so, to me, the album sounds like one long song that goes all over the map but feels whole as well. I haven't figured out what to release for singles but Love Beast, Grasshoppers, and Swear Off are strong songs. 4. Who or what were the most significant influences on your musical life and career? Well, the Dirty White album is very much influenced by albums like Beasties Check Your Head, Radiohead's O.K. Computer, Kendrick Lamar's Damn, and to some extent Zappa and P-Funk as well as Prince. There's a Purple Rain cover on the album. As a child growing up in the Massachusetts suburbs near Plymouth, I first started piano then, wanting to be John Bonham, on to the drums, but slowly realized that John Paul Jones was the spirit of Zeppelin. Those discoveries, along with all of the music of the 50s and 60s (Rock (Chuck Berry), r&b (Otis, what?!), Jazz (Monk), country, (Dolly), et al.) got me wanting to learn all instruments so I picked up keys, bass, guitar and anything else I could get my paws on, including the accordion which made its way,  almost unrecognizable, on to a couple of ambient songs on the album. In the 90s I was taken over by all the music coming out from Pixies to GnR to INXS to cheesy stuff too (I'll sing Seal's Kissed By A Rose at the top of my lungs if it comes on so watch out). At the same time, my brother gave me the Zappa albums Sheik Yerbouti and Chunga's Revenge which blew my mind. Then, I heard Rage Against the Machine which lead me to Public Enemy and Tribe Called Quest and there was no getting me back once I start down that road. Today, I have really opened up to everything and anything. I'm absorbing music at an insane rate and it's awesome, there is so much good stuff out there. 5. Who are your favorite musicians? Right now I'm going back to school to get a music composition degree so I'm deeply entrenched in the classics. It's cliche, but JS Bach was insane. Insane. You listen to his stuff and you hear Metallica's One, you hear Wu-Tang busting out polyphonic layers over some harpsichord beats. It's still in everything. Other than that, I'm listening to Kendrick, TV on the Radio, Lizzo! (New album is so good), my girls turned me on to Mattiel, Nathy Peluso, Ariana Grande. I think Cardi B's tunes are pretty good, the production is great on her stuff. And sorry but I like LilNasX's song C7osure (damn you Spotify for your algorithm!). I would like to say I hate Charlie Puth, but I don't have much say to what songs get stuck in my head. I really dig MF Doom and everyone he worked with like King Ghidorah (Tic, Tic is amazing). Black Star May have an album soon so I'm mostly freaking out until that happens. Vampire Weekend's new album is good. Kevin Abstract is good. I've also been going through old tunes I liked as a teenager and seeing if they hold up - Smashing Pumpkins were so good... that C&C Music Factory, though... 6. What have been the greatest challenges/frustrations of your career so far? I think it was the point at which I was writing music and not knowing what my sound was so I was all over the place but not finding a connection between them all. I found myself asking everybody around me if something sounded good or just completely hiding it away and not showing anyone. Which was extremely frustrating, like I was ashamed of just being me. It's a much longer connection to many things throughout my life where I looked to others to approve of what I did, when they said I probably shouldn't do something that I was getting into, I made the mistake of listening all the time and not knowing the right kind of person to listen to, or most importantly, not finding my inner will. Dirty White is very much a turning point from that unsure area to the "oh, this is my voice, it was here all along" and just owning it, which is so fulfilling. Dirty White explores a great deal of having a voice taken away, whether I watch it being taken from people most susceptible to the overpowering and unequal distribution of wealth, or I watch white men, like myself, take their own voice away as they slip into their own protective skin color and economic place. This album is really my own meditation on my feeling of impotence when it came to bringing needed change to us as humans. I joke sometimes, get a white, liberal man mad enough, he'll start a podcast. I made an album. It doesn't fix everything but it feels like a start and maybe it will help someone, who knows. 7. As a musician, what is your definition of success? Getting up every day and being aware as much as I can be; aware of when I'm present, when I'm not, of what my gifts are and how I can cultivate them so they can help me and others. Awareness affects everything I do; writing music, hanging with my family, friendships, work. It puts the quality of life into whatever quantity of life I may have left. 8. What is your idea of perfect happiness? Being awake for all of it, all of what life is, whether it is joyful or unpleasant, which goes in tandem with the success question. Happiness is a very interesting term that I spend a great deal of time meditating on - how it's defined for the purposes of consumerism, which controls our lives and the hot button political topics of today; economic racism, women's control of their body, wars with oil-rich countries, etc. Maybe another album is in there. 9. What is your present state of mind? I always have musical ideas happening in my head but I have, like any other person does, a very full schedule where I'm not working on music, so that can feel hectic, but at least I feel, right? I made the intro song on Dirty White, called Crazy Diamonds, as a wake-up song for myself. Like, literally something to wake up to. It is over the top in its good feelings and positive reinforcement, which kind of prepares the listener for an album that gets into some deep, dark areas. Like doing some cardio before going into therapy, get the blood moving. I need that positivity reminder because I can get overwhelmed and just want to be cynical and binge watch Netflix. That thing where you 'just say positive things until you feel better' works for me and that's where I am right now; calmly hectic with cynical positivity. It helps to have a rhythm and keep busy at all times. This album is built around rhythm, the first song is morning or springtime and it works through the darkest part of night/winter to the very last song being the sunrise of the next day/return to spring. How's this; living on an Elon Musk owned space station with my family and friends, floating around the earth like that Fhloston Paradise cruise ship in Fifth Element and we get free lodging because I'm part of the house band. Mos Def, relaxing from his retirement, is the band leader and a still-alive Tom Waits provides spoken word and other noises while I, like some crazy Dick Van Dyke a la Mary Poppins, supply beats and ambient sound with the Roots and Keith Richards as a backing band.
