4. If you could wake up tomorrow in the SPN world, would you? Why or why not?

I don't have much of a reasoning for this one apart from that I find the characters and mechanisms (like purgatory and tricksters, and how some of the supernatural things work) compelling. I would study that stuff until it killed me. Also the poc and rowena and eileen and I would talk shit about others so much Yes, I would wake up there if I could.

5. Samjess, Sameileen, Samruby, Samcas, or someone else?

Oh, man. Can I advocate all? I'm gonna advocate for all.

Saileen/sameileen because they're so good for each other. They both care so much and it's like. eileen deserves someone who's all blushy and protective of her even though she doesn't NEED that, and sam deserves to (and does!) care about someone who doesn't always express a need for softness. also they're both so insane if you look at them for more than five seconds. perfect match really. Also, they're a T4T bi4bi couple.

Samruby for the exact opposite reasons. No thoughts here, just two people who could not be worse for each other. bloodfreak and the OG gaslightgatekeepgirlboss, plus knifeplay. Also it's just really funny when ruby cracks jokes about murdered nuns and god, and sam tries not to spontaneously combust.

Samjess is sweet in its own way, I guess, but I can't really imagine much for this pairing? It was literally only there for one episode. Very formative, though. You gotta like it for the right reasons, e.g. "I was dead from the moment we said hello"

Samcas/sastiel: soulfisting. that's all I'm gonna say. they're queerplatonic to me Samwena is also one of my fave dynamics, but I'm not too fond of it as a purely romantic relationship

TL;DR - I like them all for different reasons, but if I had to pick one, it'd be saileen (one of the few good things that came out of dabb era tbh)

17. What’s an aspect of SPN people often point to as a flaw that you really enjoy?

The dark lighting in early seasons? Yeah you need to double your screen brightness, and it definitely would have been a problem while the show aired on TV, but at least there's some contrast. some vibe. some fucking horror. Okay that's not that unpopular, so I'll talk about the whole... angel population situation going on in heaven. It's the direct consequence of Cas' s6 actions, and its effects are felt throughout the rest of the show. Intentional or not, I love the idea of this one being's ruthless quest for free will backfiring so badly precisely BECAUSE he's handling the concept on such a large scale for the first time. And he feels the consequences for so long. that does two things: a) make way for a very interesting dynamic in heaven (not explored well enough imo but it's There in the show), and b) imply the kind of explosive power even the desire to "change the system" can have on something like heaven, which in spn functions almost entirely on faith as far as I remember?

29. You can cut one character at any point of the show. Who would it be AND what would happen as a result?

Oh, just one? Okay, ketch or gadreel I guess. Let's go with Ketch. As a result half the fuckery of s12 vanishes and Magda Peterson gets to her aunt's house healthy and happy. If it's gadreel, then half the fuckery of s9 vanishes and Kevin gets to kill the Winchesters for his health and sanity.

30. Make up a fact about a character and convince me it’s true.

Charlie Bradbury hacked her way into Bobby's old computer, found a bunch of disgustingly sweet photos of him and Rufus (and one of him kissing this other guy in a priest outfit looking into the camera??), and pestered the old man into sharing gay escapades from back in the day. they're besties now <3

starting off with the sexiest ones sooooo true <3

megstiel: look, it’s gender swapped enemies-to-lovers where the girl is evil one getting soft and the guy is the good, pure hero going bad (okay, this is samruby a bit too…) how am I, a simple bisexual, not supposed to be into that. I love that meg was a whole fleshed out character with a story and history and motives of her own way before meeting castiel (unlike most female interests on this show #RIP) and that their relationship was basically all chemistry-based in the beginning because they had sooooooo much. and then s7 happened and she stayed with him under the pretense of it just being her main form of self-protection, but it’s clear they actually began to care about each other and wanted to keep the other safe. she actually looked out for him and defended him against the winchesters when he was already in a very vulnerable, self-hating period and I’m like “yes go off queen.”

sometimes I wish the rest of her arc hadn’t been just about them in the end but it’s okay because it was such a bittersweet, tragic ending and done well all considering. I also wish they had a lot more onscreen interaction while they could and it makes me insane how they never show cas grieving her, even for people who somehow only saw it as platonic (which HOW????) you can’t deny that was an important friendship for him at least y’know. but also consider: when he calls her thorny beauty <333

samruby: SAMRUBYYYYY. I used to be “I don’t actually ship it, because it’s #toxic” can you believe. now I’m very “I see it, I enjoy it” + your samruby endgame & t4t truthing definitely made me see the light and enjoy it more and see the true depth of it. so many people were involved in manipulating sam to make the apocalypse happen from the angels to azazel & lilith, but ruby never saw sam as just her part of the lucifer group project. she ALWAYS saw it as helping sam reach his true potential and stop being afraid of his powers and become the king of hell she knew he could be.

and she cares about him soooooo much. we don’t talk enough about how she’s the only reason he’s still alive. like, his revenge mission in-between s3 and s4 was becoming a suicide mission and she refused to let him isolate himself and work/drink himself to death. she protected him, stayed with him, and helped him get stronger & smarter instead. she's literally the only reason he’s still alive, the reason why he kept fighting and got confidence in himself.

also as basically the only m/f romance we get to see interact naturally and often onscreen because spn refuses to let women be main characters, their interactions in s4 make me sooooo. like yes there is the obvious inherent sexiness of blood drinking, that is a given. but they have multitudes! they’re SOFT around each other!! the way she encourages him and cheers him on as he masters his abilities <3 the way he smiles at her approval and support <3 <3 the way she jokes about him being a buff nerd <3 <3 <3

I think in canon the ending is definitely a tragic love story, with ruby truly believing they felt the same and were on the same page (which is still delicious tho.) but with how many pointless characters got added and brought back later on, there was sooo much they could’ve done with a ruby resurrection (not whatever that cameo in s15 was.) a redemption arc, her turning against lucifer, her mysterious past being explored, her and lilith being besties. a sam and ruby relationship post-apocalypse would've been so interesting. like it was the biggest betrayal of his life but also he owes her everything and truly never felt more powerful & confident in himself than when he was with her. also I think it’s insane that they almost never bring her up after s4. like that was the most important relationship of his life outside of jess and you’re just never going to bring that up. I cannot find the suncaptor post about it, but is that he feels like he can't grieve her?

last note: my controversial samruby opinion I guess is that I refuse to think ruby 1.0 & ruby 2.0 are different demons (RESPECT the long con) but do enjoy the ruby-is-jess headcanons when I’m feeling evil (jess and ruby both believed in sam and hated how his family treated him, coincidence? maybe, maybe not)

a turn of the earth by microcomets: destiel, dean pov, 95k, slowburn. cas gets sent back in time and meets 22 year old dean. i am very bad with descriptions but this one is definitely worth reading, its the only long fic ive been able to read multiple times. (mature content warning towards the end)

the tunnel of love by xylodemon: destiel, dean pov, 21k. dean and cas have to kiss for a hunt. highly enjoyable, great writing, one of my favorites. (also mature content warning towards the end)

après by imogenbynight: destiel, cas pov, 24k. cas loses his grace and lands in paris, dean flies out to get him, and they have a sort of cute romantic holiday there. this one is really sweet!! also has a follow up, billet doux. (again, mature content warning towards the end)

the cost of a thing by quiettewandering: destiel, dean pov, 74k, fake relationship, slow burn. dean and cas are hunting something thats killing married couples and they have to pretend to be married in order to catch it.

adjust to the light by achillese: midam, 69k, au. adam is the only survivor of an uncaught serial killer. warning this one is kind of dark (not that much explicit violence but it does involve serial killers and the aftermath of attempted murder so. if that bothers you than tread carefully)

the world begins anew by clasch: destiel, dean pov, 1.2k, fluffy, christmas celebration. this one is really adorable and made me almost cry.

a new type of normal by chipper99: destiel, dean pov, 2k, fluff. cas thinks dean means a kiss when he asks if hes forgotten something but in reality he's talking about car keys. this one is really cute and funny :3

four seasons by thesongsmith: destiel, au, .7k. technically this should not be on a serious fic rec list bc its a crackfic but its also really funny. remember when the trump administration accidentally booked four seasons landscaping instead of the four seasons hotel? this is just that but destiel

1) What’s your major? If you haven’t gone to university, what degree would you use to legitimise overanalysing SPN?

I have an Anglistik BA, which pretty much just means I studied english (the language, the literature and the culture), so I think I’m kinda well suited to overanalyze supernatural. And while I didn’t get a degree in it, I took a handful of gender courses so i am absolutely using those as well <3

5)      Samjess, Sameileen, Samruby, Samcas, or someone else?

Of the ships up there, I enjoy SamxJess (particularly the t4t lesbian flavor I’ve created in my mind <3) & SamxEileen as cute romantic ships and SamxRuby as an evil manipulative You Are Going Down With Me Hand In Unloveable Hand ship <3 and they are all pretty much on the same level for me (samxeileen is a bit lower on that list, but only bc it is in the later seasons and i dont care for those that much... i do love eileen a lot though). Other than my horror shipping (aka dark sam & lucifer bc i do have ptsd and I Do project) I don’t really ship a lot of ships? perhaps some femslash, but none of those include Sam, you know?

12)   Symbolism: Tell me about some cool symbolism in SPN! Your pick.

Uhhhhh, the religious symbolism maybe? I just think religious symbolism kinda slaps, particularly Sam as Jesus Figure. Other than that, pretty much anything else to do with Sam. 

29)   You can cut one character at any point of the show. Who would it be AND what would happen as a result?

Possibly Cas in s4, so we get boyking!Sam going to hell to save Dean. I just think that would be sexier <3 Like Cas can still technically be there, but i want Sam getting to use his sexy powers! Otherwise... none really? Sam and Dean are both necessities of the show and i dont think it could have continued without one of them and Cas has gotten to that level as well in the later seasons. Mainly I leave the removing of characters to the AU fanfics I read. I dont think the actual spn writers could do it justice.
