i really like the lock picking in Skyrim because it's an actual skill that i, the player, have gotten good at.
like, i have never put a single perk point into the lockpicking tree, but i can pick any lock in the game in ten picks or less because i have a system that i developed into a practiced skill i use on all the locks.
That may sound like a useless or broken game dynamic, but it's one of my favorite things in the game actually -- the locks in Skyrim are built a certain way, and i, as a player, have developed the skill to pick them based on experience, practice, and the development of a process.
i actually wish more things in more RPGs were like that.

Remember this concept from a while back? Here's how it ended up looking! :D
Way less elements actually got done, but seeing how far away this is from my drawing comfort zone I'm more than happy with this result ;P

WORLDSPANNER FACTIONS
My all time favorite game ever just launched their Kickstarter for an updated experience!
Worldspanner Factions is the latest iteration of Duel of Ages; a game that came out in 2003 and had an update in 2013, the aptly named Duel of Ages II. With both of these games, Ive spent countless hours playing with friends, family members, and strangers all over the country at various local shops and conventions. It has been my go to game for getting people interested in gaming as a hobby since the very beginning.
Worldspanner is a game system that lets you play as characters that transcend space and time in an arena of social, political, and physical combat across battle maps of various ages from around the universe. Each game is its own story with a unique map building process that has you thinking on your toes as to what your best strategy could be.
I had always said that if there were only a single game I could play for the rest of my life, it would easily be Duel of Ages. I'm certain that will stand true with the new Worldspanner Factions update and I can't wait!
I am in no way associated with the people behind the game but, if you're looking for something to play with an endless amount of replay value, you owe it to yourself to check out Duel of Ages and the new Worldspanner Factions Kickstarter.
Also, for all the art folks on here...
