48 - Making the Grey (Tabby) Jedi in Force and Destiny

Force and Destiny is the second of Fantasy Flight Games's cross-compatible Star Wars RPGs we've covered. This one focused primarily on the surviving Jedi in hiding in the aftermath of the Battle of Yavin. While it is the official stance of the Literal Cat Podcast and official Star Wars brand that Grey Jedi aren't real, they never said anything about making Grey Tabbies into Jedi, and we feel like that's basically the same thing.

Sabre A

So I had the idea that making a series of lightsabers would be a good way to get a bunch of quick practice pieces under my belt, so of course I managed to complete exactly one before coming up with some over complicated concept that I couldn’t execute.

But here at least is Sabre A, intended as an artefact of a bygone age when lightsaber design was yet to be distilled into the pure utilitarian device we’ve seen on screen.

This sabre is loosely styled after European longswords from the 15th and 16th century, it has a longer grip than the screen sabres, which is made from a blue alien hardwood, that is cut with a slight barrel taper and a spiral pattern for grip.

The fittings are cast from a bronze-like metal, with the controls in a thumb cluster at the top of the primary grip. A cage-like waveguide protrudes from the top of the emitter, shaping the sabre’s energy field into a coherent beam.

Things have been heating up in our star wars ttrpg and I've gotten to drop some of my character's backstory, finally!

so here's a full body ref of my cringefail loserman, Tegai, and our droid, BD-69 (he chose this designation for himself, we were not responsible for this)

i'm also very annoyed about how the symbolism of cassian's character was handled throughout this season. in rogue one and going into season two, the great tragedy of cassian was that he was no one at all -- destined to go unremembered and never live to see the world he gave everything to create. he had been through hell and back not because it had to be that way but because he was brave enough to choose hell in hopes that it might make a better tomorrow. and then he was wiped off the map and the men who destroyed the death star using the plans he stole never knew his name.

according to andor season two, though, cassian was always meant to be on scarif because he's a "messenger." he has lampshaded plot armor until he can die the way he was born to die, because it was always his destiny to make sure those plans made it off that base. also, he is survived by his partner and a child he never knew about, solidifying his legacy. this... is silly. it is beyond noble for cassian to make the willing choice to be forgotten in service of a greater cause. i'm much less compelled if the story is about cassian unintentionally being dragged to his death by fate and then getting remembered as a hero.
