#take this with a grain of salt because I was not directly involved in the fandom when major things re: veth and scanlan's

An idle thought, really, but I think it's interesting to see fandom latch on the metaphorical interpretation of things like Laudna's relationship with Delilah as a metaphor for addiction or Imogen's psychic powers as a metaphor for either chronic pain or queerness, but there's much less attachment to or discussion of the characters who explicitly, canonically dealt with exactly those things. By which I mean Scanlan's substance abuse, Veth's alcoholism, and even Ashton's chronic pain (which feels like it was discussed much more before it was confirmed canon, and seems to be brought up mostly just as ship fodder these days). I suppose one could argue the devotion to the metaphorical interpretations lies in the fact that it's an interpretation of canon as opposed to being explicitly so, meaning there's more wiggle room to project a personal interpretation onto it. Explicit canon is more concrete, less malleable to the individual viewer. Still, if we're going to talk about addiction now in a metaphorical sense via Laudna, it leads me to wonder if we will see further discussion of the characters who explicitly dealt with addiction (Veth and Scanlan), as opposed to Laudna's purported allegorical version of it

Pro-Palestine Brands That You Can Support!
In the spirit of the BDS Movement and other boycott attempts done across the globe, here is a thread showcasing brands that are pro-Palestine (or at least unaffiliated with Israel as of October 2023).
Tumblr media
Worth noting is that someone on the thread above mentioned that Ben & Jerry's are pro-Palestine. This is partly true as the FOUNDERS of Ben & Jerry's, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield filed a lawsuit against Unilever to stop all sales in Israel. Unfortunately, they lost the case and the brand instead has stopped all sales in Palestine while still being available in Israel.
I have seen a lot of beauty brands being mentioned such as e.l.f, Pat McGrath Labs, Charlotte Tilbury (whose brand ambassador is Bella Hadid, famously known for being pro-Palestine and is half-Palestinian herself), Fenty Beauty, and even Dior (09/11/2023 edit #1: Dior is no longer on this list as they replaced Bella Hadid with an Israeli model, along with Fenty Beauty as Rihanna is also a brand ambassador for Puma and they had released a collaboration with the brand on September) but besides from Huda Beauty and Delhicious I have yet to see any explicit showcase of support from any other major brands so please take any information regarding beauty brands outside of the ones we are boycotting with a grain of salt.
You can also help by ordering Krispy Kreme (side note: this excites me because I love Krispy Kreme) from this link as it is for a fundraiser by students at the UCLA. Krispy Kreme may not be directly involved, but it is still good to know that this is a viable option. (09/11/2023 edit #2: corrected some missing info)
Here is also a list of ten Palestinian-owned brands that you can support.
May I also add, if you live in a country that is for the most part if not 100% politically supportive of the Palestinian cause like Ireland, Indonesia (where I live), Malaysia, etc., chances are your local brands are pro-Palestine, at least in spirit, so you can opt for them instead. If you also know any local businesses owned by Palestinians in your area, support them as well!
That is all for now, may your watermelons taste fresh and sweet.

Submas canon vs fanon
The entire time I have been in the Submas fandom I have seen a lot of confusion about what is canonical and what is a wide-spread fanon. Both in the sense of people thinking things were canon when they were not, and (more rarely) people thinking things were fanon when they were not. So I thought it might be useful to put together a little guide.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with using fanon. I use most of these headcannons in my own fics because I like them and canon is dumb anyway. (Note: pokemon is a huge sprawling mass and tends to contradict itself, and there have been changes across the various games/manga/anime)
All quotations are taken from bulbapidia.
Nimbasa Trio - FANON
Elesa has no connection to Ingo and Emmet besides living in the same place. There is one interaction between them in Pokemon Masters, and while they are on friendly terms they don't appear to be particularly close. Similarly, the idea that Ingo likes bad puns/Emmet does not stemmed from their fanon friendship with her.
Uncle Drayden - FANON
The only confirmed family Ingo and Emmet have are each other.
Cilan is a huge fan - CANON
Cilan is a fanboy of both of them in the anime.
Ingo is the older twin - CANON
In the original Japanese Emmet calls Ingo "nii-san" which means older brother.
"Do you have any siblings? I have an older brother, Ingo."
- Emmet, pokemon masters
Emmet's joltik hoard - FANON
Emmet's galvantula knows the move cross poison. This is an "egg move" which can only be learnt through pokemon breeding. Since it would take several tries to get this move it probably would have left Emmet with a lot of Joltik. In theory. We don't see Emmet with joltiks in canon.
Ingo's kitty smile - CANON
He smiles like that in the manga. (Admittedly, it's not as exaggerated as the full on :3 people sometimes draw him with.) He also briefly smiles in PLA, but less cat-like.
Ingo's perpetual frown is unintentional - CANON
"<player>! Someone just told me something that troubled me deeply! They said that compared to Emmet, I'm too stiff! But that's just a misunderstanding! I know I smile when I'm having fun! I'd even say that I'm quite proud of how expressive I am when I speak! What? You say you've never seen me smile? I-is that so..."
- Ingo, Pokemon Masters
They are both autistic - FANON
They are related to the twin heros - FANON
They share similar themes and motifs to the twin heros/Zekrom/Reshiram but that's it. They have no canon relationship.
Both of them are heavily coded as autistic. However, it's never been directly stated in the games that they are autistic and (to my knowledge) nobody at Game Freak/Nintendo has confirmed anything.
Ingo has a receding hairline - (debatably) CANON
He is drawn with one in the art book. Does the art book count as canon? Until something in the main games says otherwise, probably. (Though there is some argument to be had that it might be an unflattering haircut instead.)
Ingo arrived in Hisui via wormhole - FANON
"For my part, I simply found myself one day here in Hisui, a region whose name I'd never heard... All I could remember was my own name. I was still standing there in bafflement when the Pearl Clan came to my aid."
- Ingo, PLA. (However, the art book depicts the pearl clan finding him facedown on the ground, so take his standing claim with a grain of salt)
We still don't know how he got there. Similarly, it is quite common to show Ingo arriving during a blizzard/freezing to death and generally in poor health/injured/unconsciousness. But the way he recounts it sounds much more peaceful.
It'a also common to have Sneasler be the one to find him. The art book (of dubious canon) shows a human pearl clan member finding him, and Ingo's quote seems to confirm that. It's possible Sneasler was involved but she isn't mentioned.
Ingo got amnesia from hitting his head - FANON
We don't know how he got amnesia.
Ingo remembers Emmet as "the man in white" - FANON
"I'm starting to recall a man who looked... like me. We'd battle and discuss Pokémon, I think... The words "I like winning more than anything else" flashed through my mind just now..."
- Ingo, PLA, about Emmet
He makes no mention of remembering Emmet wearing white or smiling.
Ingo calls her "Lady Sneasler" - FANON
Ingo only calls her Sneasler, no Lady. In fact, nobody calls her or any of the ride pokemon Lord or Lady because...
The ride pokemon are noble pokemon - FANON
There are 10 blessed pokemon descended from the heros of old, and these pokemon are revered by the clans and have wardens. The blessed pokemon are divided into two groups, the rides and the nobles.
The ride pokemon are not called noble pokemon, and they do not get titles. Mai talks about "the great Wyrdeer" but does not call him lord or noble.
"This suggests that even Pokémon that are not nobles can become frenzied..."
- Kamado, PLA, about the ride pokemon Ursaluna seemingly becoming frenzied
Ingo lives in Sneasler's cave - FANON
We don't know where he lives.
Ingo became a Warden because Sneasler liked him - FANON
"I showed a natural affinity for taming Pokémon, which is why I eventually became a warden. But still I wonder what my true purpose is here..."
- Ingo, PLA
There is no further information about his wardenship. There is no information on what his relationship with Sneasler was prior to him becoming her warden.
Ingo likes having photos because of the amnesia - CANON
"Ah, photographs. I appreciate having physical keepsakes—less ephemeral than memories. Would you do me the honor of posing for a photo with me, <player>?"
- Ingo, PLA, at the Photography Studio
Ingo has been in Hisui for XX years - CANON
The art book uses the placeholder XX for the amount of time Ingo has been in Hisui. Some have taken the double digits to mean 10+, however the first digit could easily be a 0. So, we still don't know. Net 0 information.
Emmet must be taking Ingo vanishing badly - FANON
We have not heard from Emmet.
***
That's all for now! I'm sure I've missed or forgotten something, feel free to add stuff in the reblogs! I might edit the list later to add more if needed.

To add on to how Oda’s involvement with Netflix should be taken with a grain of salt, there’s also this quote from a Netflix’s Director of Original Series Ted Biaselli where he makes it sound like every meeting with Oda was an argument:
“We're working directly with Eiichiro Oda who is the creator. You know, he's got a vision, and he's also never worked in television so there's this give and take in education of what works in live-action and what doesn't work in live-action. He'll tell us we're missing the point, that's not what this scene is about... Then we'll all go, oh, okay.”
Yup oh my god I remember that, I remember quoting that to people and they shrugged it off??? I was like?? Why is everyone pretending everything's just fine???
Also, fun fact? The guy who said that? Also said this about the live action Avatar the Last Airbender. You know, the series where they ALSO got the original creators onboard, but those creators left the production because they weren't being listened to?
Tumblr media
Sure Ted, I'm sure EVERYONE working on the series LOVED the original animated series. They loved it so much, the original creators essentially got kicked out! Just like how EVERYONE who worked on the OPLA was such a HUUUGE One Piece fan!
And like, Mr Ted is wrong, Oda HAS worked in television. He's literally helped write scripts for One Piece movies and has created original characters for both the anime and One Piece films. Some things cannot adapt from animation, and Oda more than anyone would fucking know that? Why do you think One Piece is so fucking finely engineered to fit into its medium? Genuinely just feels insulting to be like "Oh he doesn't know what he's doing" as if he's not trying to help fix the STORY, not the process of MEDIUM ADAPTION?
It's not "Oh you just don't understand live action adaption" when Oda has said "HEY?? MAYBE DON'T ADD GARP?" like...I'm sorry?? Please explain to me why Garp just SCREEEAMED to be shoved into a live action medium, so much so that you had to fight the original creator over it??
Just spare me.
(edit)
Oh yeah and for those wondering where the quote's from here's the article. Just an absolutely bizarre move for him to even say that and for it to be included in the article at all when it's an article supposedly praising the production of the live action? Strange.

Legit Bad-take/Bad-Faith Helluvaverse critics you should not trust if you see them
Interpersonal squabbles within the critical tag are irrelevant, sorry. This here is a genuine warning against users you should keep your distance from in regards to any VivziePop drama-discourse because their names may come up and you should know what it is that crossed the line.
Starlatte/Starvader/HonestHazbinCritiques/OhGodDude and Woomycritiques/RaySquid - Serial harasser(s). Long story incoming. Starlatte was/is a Vivcritical who got involved in the fandom back in 2019/2020 when she was a minor and didn't tell anyone. Her blog on tumblr was HonestHazbinCritiques where she made some good points but also managed to find/be a part of everyone else's takes in the critical community. Her relationship with several criticalblogs turned sour when she started lashing out, talking over people, being accused of faking her age, and doing stuff like arguing with irl sexworkers abt how they should feel about Angel Dust. Whatever her age actually was at the time, she was also sending her own rewrite scripts and fanwritten episodes to Spindlehorse in order to 'fix' Hazbin. In 2021 Star returned to Tumblr under the name "Oh-God-Dude" w/o disclosing to new people who she was while also starting shit. When said new ppl found out her past and got mad at her, she proceeded to block-backtalk every one of them.
Woomycritiques (twitter handle: Raysquid) is a critical blogger who stans Star and calls everyone else in the critical community an obsessed stalker while lashing out herself. She accused others of racism (unfounded), her friends of predation just for being proship (not the 'cest and underage is good'-kind, the "I like some problematic stuff in fic-context"-kind), and heckled Dirgentlemen over how much they should hate Helluva, and more.
Regardless of if you believe Woomy and Star are the same person, which ppl do, they are both -by now- adult persons who have been asked to stop and DIDN'T, which is why people don't trust them. Star and Woom were asked to tone it down, stop making accusations and even asked by many criticals to leave and stop talking about Helluvaverse as she/they seem to have nothing good to say about it. To put that into perspective, cuz I know some HH/HB fans are gonna be reading this: the people who've self-styled themselves antis and criticals begged this person to leave cuz she had nothing nice to say and was being a nuisance. I know the stans think that's all of us anyway, so let that sink in.
LincarRox aka ToyTaker - Creep. Nasty jealous stalker freak who got kicked out of Helluvaverse servers and Aminos for saying nasty shit like how he "wants to put a baby" in Viv. No really. He took his shit and grievances to BadWebComics wiki under the name TheToyTaker while also seemingly trying to get work at Spindlehorse in order to have access to Viv directly and to 'fix' her show. He did so by faking his animation portfolio. BWW did eventually catch on and kick him out but yeah....bad. May or may not still be going under his old pseudonyms, but regardless if you see someone talking weirdly sexually abt Viv while saying they were "let go" both by SH and BWW, get out now. That's probably him.
Animation Call-Out - Bigoted shitlord. Twitter user who rags on Vivz' controversies w other people but also hates gays and BIPOCs. Admitted to submitting one of the anonymous reviews against Spindlehorse "for fun" amidst legitimate ex-employees. All of the reviews, even the ones that seem the most validating/believable should be taken with a grain of salt I believe especially since they are coming to us anonymously, but when a racist person admits to def being one of those fake reviews for "Lolz" sake, that's def when shit's hit the fan.
DoodleToons - Also bigoted creeperlooser. Altright white kid who hates BIPOC existing in anything and admits to hating Viv's stuff for their LGBTisms and 'demons'. Yes, there legit are bad-faith critics who are homophobic. Just because Viv and her crew have a way of saying that's EVERY critic of her work doesn't mean there aren't shitty people out there.

"#it's one of the fairly well known conflicts with joku #she was forcing drink to be canon so hard even tho mye said its fine outside of canon #and she got so mad about it that they 'broke up' #now the star sanses 'arent canon' like #lmfao" legitimately not trying to be rude or anything, but is there like a source or smth for this? wasn't here for the earlier fandom days
Tumblr media Tumblr media
some direct accounts from @/nekophy (goth's creator) of an old lost post (bc of a blog issue) directly calling out joku's past mistakes from years ago
i want to iterate that this post is OLD.
despite it still needing to be taken into an account, this is an ages old drama and the ppl involved could have different opinions and/or have changed now, including joku.
i wouldn't know 'cuz i don't exactly care to pay attention if joku has changed or not, so take it with a grain of salt.
i'm only bringing the post back up again from the archives because anon asked.

Some more possible scraps of interest from possible DA:D leaks on Reddit, from another Reddit user, under a cut due to DA:D spoilers:
first, the usual set of disclaimers that should be kept in mind with all leaks: might not be real, unable to verify at present, sometimes leakers think they’re right about things but are unintentionally incorrect or got some wires crossed, games change a fair bit between development phases and final release, the opinion-based stuff is completely subjective, take with grain of salt etc.
I tried to gather comments together in bundles where it would make sense (if on the same or related topics).
-
They commented on the timepoint of development that their information is from, saying "It's up to date." and that they played much more recently than last October. Someone asked "Alright so this is like alpha or pre-alpha video right? Which means what we see is subject to drastic change." (basically asking if they played the same build as the Reddit leaker who shared screenshots/gif) and they said "Ehh, that would be based on how soon it’s released. Because I’ve playtested it recently, and if that video is old, then they’ve changed essentially nothing about it and probably don’t intend to lol." "Between when your comment was first written and now, I’ve learned enough to be convinced that it was indeed from at least a year ago, so you were right. I’ve just played a much more recent version." "Nope, completely different. But I read through it thoroughly just now, and that person is right. Based on the write-up [Insider Gaming report], it is pretty old. They’re talking about missing textures and placeholders. In my playthrough, they could’ve told me the game was done and I would’ve believed them. Definitely wasn’t from the same test." So it sounds like folks leaking played different builts/different playtests at different times.
Someone asked a bit more detail about what playtesting involves and they replied "Certain part of the game. I played specific missions, story missions, so I wouldn't know anything about the sidequest fluff." "I played in the middle because that’s how most controlled tests for games work. You almost never just hit “new game” and start from the beginning."
Reddit user: "Rook is the name of the protagonist. Like “Inquisitor” was in DA:I." Someone speculated that Rook would be a fridged prologue companion like Jenkins Masseffect (F) and they replied "As someone who has played the game, don’t try your hand at the lottery for a while lol."
Reddit user: "Grey Warden isn't the class" [of the character seen in some of the screenshots] "I’m not confirming or denying the existence of different origins, but “Grey Warden” was not the class."
Reddit user: "I've played it. You can't directly control party members. A more apt comparison (and it's extremely weird that they didn't reference this [referring to the first Insider Gaming report] considering it's another bioware franchise) is Mass Effect. It's exactly like ME's wheel where you hold RB or whatever it was, and choose what ability they use." "They can always change it, but I've played it and unfortunately, I can confirm. I personally don't care as I never switch to companions in games where you can anyway, but it's exactly like ME in that aspect."
Reddit user: "Given the timing, I'm 99% sure his source is someone I played with." "Nothing in the leak that was stated definitively is incorrect." [referring to the first Insider Gaming report]
Reddit user [re: combat]: "I've played it, and tbf, it was closer to XV than to say, DA:I" "Combat felt like Andromeda with melee weapons. Take that for what you will lol." "XV was in reference t the combat wheel. It wasn't over the top at all though, it played like a typical action game (ie not teleporting everywhere)." "I've beaten all 3 [existing DA games] and have played Dreadwolf. It's nothing like the other games. It's action combat. Grounded though, not in a fantastical way like DMC." "I don't remember a wheel in XV, but then again I havent played it in a long time. What it is exactly like though (and them not using this descriptor makes me feel like they don't play bioware games) is Mass Effect. I've played it. The wheel is exactly like the ME games."
Reddit user [re: combat, when someone was asking about hack 'n' slash]: "It's more like Inquisition, although I wouldn't describe it as either. Plays like an action game." "What they meant [in the Insider Gaming article] is that it plays like an action game. So not like any of the DA games" "I described my playtime to friends as "Andromeda but melee"." "I thought it was fun. Funner than the DAs of the past. However I never really took advantage of all the tactical options in Bioware games, so if there's someone who is looing forward to that, they'll probably have significantly less fun than I did." They also confirmed the existence of skill trees, a map, choosing the PC's class, companions who used classes and jumping & a jump button. They said that there are 4 ability slots ("I was only ever able to use 4."). There's blocking but not parrying. Stats are levelled up automatically like they are in DA:I, so no skill points to allocate manually. "I’ve played it with 3 companions and 4 skills."
They confirm the following infos from the first Insider Gaming article:
- "The game still lacks features;" The game is missing voice lines and has a lot of placeholder text. - "Dreadwolf has a lot of similarities with previous games in the franchise;" AND "You can recruit members to your team"; The article basically just describes a Dragon Age game. ***POSSIBLE SPOILER*** "It’s understood that you’ll be able to move from your hub to missions by passing through a mirrored portal." - "You cannot control your team members, but you can issue commands to cast abilities;" Key word here is currently perhaps - "Combat will be hack n' slash-like and will be like Final Fantasy XV;" The article did not say it's hack n' slash like FF15, but the combat wheel itself is more like FF15 (I never played FF15 so I don't know if it's a time-slow type ability wheel or what).
and added on this topic, "I can confirm 75% of what that person has said, and the other 25% I just never experienced. Don't know why they would lie about it." "Unless they change it in the future, you can't directly control companions." "I've played it and can confirm everything in that article except for the release date and multiplayer stuff. You cannot directly control your companions, and its full hack and slash" "Other than what I didn't experience (multiplayer/hub) it's all true. Down to the part about a 1/10th of the lines not being recorded yet." "I can confirm almost everything in that leak." "Multiplayer I didn't experience, nor did I experience the hub world that was described, although the portal thing is true." "The hub thing he described, I never played, but I did use the portals he was talking about." They also commented on the missing voice lines, "It's implemented, they're just not all there yet. During my playthrough Id say maybe a 10th of the lines were missing, and a good amount of the monster sounds." "Oh for sure, it’s definitely not a mess at this stage. On the contrary, the environments are pretty beautiful. Only things that were missing were a few audio clips."
Reddit user [re: mirrored portrals and an open world]: "I can't confirm the existence of one, I could've just never experienced it from my time with the game, but I myself never played anything that could be considered open world. Funny enough, I never thought about that until your question just now. But it would make sense from what I played."
Reddit user: "Combat's are great, cutscenes' are decent. Best ever as far as Bioware is concerned (which should be a given). What's not great are the facial animations. Granted the game isn't done yet (and might be far from done, who knows), but as of rn, it's Andromeda 2.0"
Reddit user [re: not controlling party members]: "It's true." "Unless they change it sometime before release, which I doubt, I can confirm that you cannot." "I can confirm. You can't directly control them." They also commented that companion control felt like Mass Effect.
When someone said "i hope they don't mean a real "action" combat, and it would still have those Dragon Age" they replied "That's exactly what they mean." Someone mentioned no party member control and hack n slash, FF combat and they replied "Can confirm, both are true. I wouldn't say "will be like XV", and technically that's not what he said either. What he meant was that it's more of an action combat, not that you'll be teleporting around." Someone asked if it compares to Elder Scrolls and they said "Uhhh, yeah I guess. I usually play Elder Scrolls in first person, so that comparison would be kinda weird to me, but third person elder scrolls I guess would be more accurate than any of the past DA games. ES combat has no weight to it though, and this has weight. For real, it plays like Dark Souls games if you took out the invincibility frames and all the things that make them "hard"."
Someone asked about the party size, and they replied "Yeah, 2 party members and then a third based on what mission you're playing. Weapon wheel to control 3 abilities each for the two companion's you've brought and then 4 of your own abilities." "Now I will say, Idk how far I was into the game, so it's possible that it'll eventually open up to 3 of your choosing, but I played multiple missions and the third person was whoever you were helping at the time." "It’s still 4 [party members in total, so PC+3]."
Someone asked about what's happening to Solas and they replied "I have no idea lol. He was mentioned in passing seeing as he's the big bad now, but I never saw him or anything." "in Mass Effect for instance right? WHat Sovereign was up to wasn't described in every main mission. It wasn't even described in most of them."
Reddit user: "The look of the hair was pretty damn good I will say, the physics of it though, I didn't really pay attention to. Everything about the graphics looked sufficiently next gen, except for the facial animations. They're still Andromeda level, maybe a step up." "Everyone else's hair is great. Your character's hair is...decent." "Graphics are sufficiently next gen except for facial animations. They were the one stand out." "Movements are less stiff feeling, even when people are still. Animations and movement are better as well. They were satisfying to me, but of course, that’s subjective." "visuals and performance were pretty solid from my experience. That could obviously change though."
On facial animations someone asked them "You said that facial animations were only a bit better than those in Andromeda, but how do they compare to Inquisition? Because I think in Inquisition they were somehow better or at least didn't stand out that much like in Andromeda, despite the latter being newer game. I think I'll be okay with them being just a bit better than in Inquisition" and they replied "I’m looking at clips of Inquisition now and I think you hit the nail on the head when you said “at least didn’t stand out as much” because tbh, Inquisition and Andromeda weren’t that far apart in that aspect, they were definitely made using the same process, but Inquisitions somehow don’t stand out as much. Idk whether it’s because a lot of the people talking aren’t human or what. But it looks more like that than Andromeda. But because technology has gotten better, it looks better than both. I guess the conclusion is it still has that stiffness that both of them have, where it looks a couple steps removed from a robot that gets told to move pieces of their face X way at X time, but then at the end come back to Z position. So I guess I’d say the faces look and move like an HD Inquisition. I would’ve compared it to that instead of Andromeda, but I never realized they were so similar until you pointed it out lol."
Reddit user: "Yup, a KO for you is game over." [a KO for the PC]
Reddit user: "The maps feel like they could've came from DA:I design wise."
Reddit user: "It feels the same but different. I know that's an incredibly bs non-answer but it's true. It feels like a 2023 Bioware Dragon Age. For better or for worse. Anybody expecting DA:I 2 will be disappointed." "It'll probably be worth it [the wait] in the sense that DA fans will find it passable. But at this point (keep in mind the game still isn't done) it's not something that feels like it took 10 years to make or anything. Which is probably due to them reportedly restarting development multiple times." "I'd say most things about the game definitely feel more like Andromeda then DA:I" "If they keep it pretty much the same as my playtest, average players will be happy, but people who play Dragon Age games specifically for the Dragon Age gameplay probably won’t be. It’s completely different."
Someone asked about whether it answers DA lore questions, and what the storytelling/spread of storytelling is like and they said "I was dropped in and out of missions, so idk, but I will say it has A LOT of story elements from DA:O" and then "Same answer"
On characters they said "I didn't spend a significant enough amount of time to make that call [whether they're as interesting as the chars in DA:I. they're quirky though" "I think the character designs are sick, but that's completely subjective." "I wouldn't say I had enough time with the characters to get emotionally invested." Also someone asked if the characters are 3D, realistic and complex and they replied "Stereotypes unfortunately". Someone asked how the dialogue compares to ME:A, expressing the opinion that their "biggest issue with MEA was the MCU-esque style of writing that made the dialogue sound like it was ripped from bad tumblr fanfics. I couldn't take most of the cast seriously because they sounded more like caricatures than real characters." They replied "😬 bad news my man. What you just described is exactly how I would describe it.
Reddit user [re: armors]: "Im not sure how to answer that. Nothing really stood out, if that helps. But then again, idk what parts of the game I played. Could've been closer to the beginning where you just get the plain stuff."
Someone asked them "was the camera a tight over-the-shoulder cam like Andromeda, or was it more zoomed out / character centered like DAI / other 3rd person games?" and they replied "Zoomed out, but then tight when you use the weapon wheel (which youll be using a lot)" The other user asked if it was like Mad Max, and they said "Actually that's not a bad comparison. Picture the camera a bit further out though." On tac cam, they said "I was part of the leakers playtest. As of now, there is literally no tactical camera, but like you said, who knows if they’ll add it sometime before release. Just don’t get your hopes up."
Someone asked them "Does it feel like a medieval fantasy game still? It looks so sci fi to me, like the eluvians are shitty Rick and morty style portal guns all of the sudden. Does the neon purple take away from that feeling at all?" and they replied "It didn’t feel sci-fi to me but it sounds like you’re referring to a deeper level than just baseline aesthetics, and for that I think it’d be subjective. If you’re not though, no it still felt distinctly fantasy. Some parts more medieval than others." Someone also asked about warriors breaking stuff in the world, mages restoring terrain and rogues picking locks and they replied "Let’s just say…the game doesn’t play in a way that requires those anymore."
Reddit user: "Map design was one of the best parts, and boy were they gorgeous. The greenery specifically was the only thing in the game where I was like "This is exclusively next gen, like they couldn't have done this on last gen"."
Reddit user: "I thought it was fun, but I mean fun is subjective. Things were changed about the series that some long time fans will hate and some people who never liked Dragon Age will now love, such as the lack of tactical options." "I thought the combat was fun, but fun is subjective ya know? For instance, you guys already know that all the tactical stuff is gone, and for someone looking for that, they wouldn’t find it fun. I guess the takeaway could be that it’s by no means bad. Footage and screenshots are real. That’s 100% the game."
Reddit user: "I’ve played it. Recently. And all of the things people are giving the “year old” line in reference to are still the case. So the likelihood of them being changed are very slim."
Someone asked them "Hello! Could you share (or hint in some way) if some of the characters from previous games will make an appearance? (Beside Varric and Solas, obv). Some old leaks implied Bioware considered dual protagonist at some point, so I'm wondering if it turned into something. Or, at least, any mentions about Inquisition?" and they replied "[besides Varric and Solas] Literally the only people I saw/heard about lmao, sorry. I also never experienced anything regarding dual protagonists."
Someone asked them "Did it look to be anywhere near close to done??? I mean it's kinda a dumb question because on one hand I think you may have only played a certain area... On the other though I don't know anything about why you playtested, nor do I want to but, I am interested in knowing more about the overall size, comparison of detail to say like anything new gen, and whether or not they incorporated newer tech such as haptics, adaptive triggering, graphic upgrade and is the story intriguing or pushed... You know.". They replied:
"No no, that’s not a dumb question at all. Tbh, they could’ve said it was releasing at the end of the year and I’d believe them. The only thing I could see that wasn’t finished were the voice lines, and not even that many weren’t recorded. Maybe 1/10th. Graphics were superb except for the facial animations (and given Andromeda, that might just be how they’re going to stay). Controls were solid, enemies were solid, abilities were solid, UI and menu all looked unique and finished. General gameplay was in a finished state. Had a couple glitches here and there but nothing that couldn’t easily be ironed out.
[re: about the overall size, comparison of detail to say like anything new gen] From what I played, it seems more instanced than open world like DA:I, so I can’t really compare it in size, and obviously the previous 2 games have been outclassed in terms of technology.
[re: whether or not they incorporated newer tech such as haptics, adaptive triggering] Not that I saw, but idk if that’s the type of thing they’d incorporate anywhere before near the end of development. You sound like you’d have a better idea of that than I would though.
[re: graphcis upgrade] Graphics are for sure upgraded. The flora in particular I would say wouldn’t have been able to be created before the PS5 gen. It’s that good. Environments, clothing, faces were up there as well (clothing and faces could’ve been better with your character, but everyone else’s were next gen).
[re: is the story intriguing or pushed] The thing about judging a story is that even the most interesting ones fall flat if you experience it out of order (unless that’s the author’s intention), which I did. Even with putting bits and pieces together from what the characters were saying, I really felt nothing because I was coming in mid storyline."
[source] <- read the comments in context for them to make the most sense ofc :)
Edit - Update:
New comment of interest from the user (thanku @ladymacbethsimp for letting me know!). Someone asked them "can you attribute a single emoji to every companion you saw? like an out of context spoiler kind of thing". They replied "Hmmm I can try…" and posted these three emojis/series of emojis:
Tumblr media
The screenshots I have included here are screenshots of the same comment from 2 different devices side by side, as emojis/emoji groupings can change appearance depending on OS etc.
so.. elf man of color, red hair woman and woman mage?

Trauma Team Artbook Character Bio Lore
...As gleaned from running artbook scans from 2014 through a sketchy machine translation in the year 2023. I won't post the exact translations for fear of mistranslations ending up reported as fact on wikis and so on, but here's the gist of what Google Translate yields.
CR-S01
Is named Erhard Muller, a fact that already made the rounds in the 2010s
His nationality is also listed as German, though he clearly spent most of his life in America
Most of his backstory isn't anything new compared to in the games, but the artbook does provide a timeline: adopted by Professor Sartre at age 9 after his parents died, enrolled in medical school at age 12 and hailed as the youngest ever to do so, age 13 when Rosalia was adopted, age 16 when the Cumberland Institute incident happened
Erhard and Rose weren't super close siblings, but got along well enough and they had happy lives until the bioterrorism attacked
The government 100% knew Erhard wasn't the culprit when they arrested him - he was the public scapegoat because they couldn't find Albert Sartre, their real person of interest. They never stopped looking for Sartre, and S01's work to reduce his sentence was a quiet compromise for the fact that they, y'know, ruined this kid's life
After learning the truth, S01 is disappointed at his father's betrayal but also chooses to take blame for Sartre's crimes and work off his sentence rather than expose Sartre as the true culprit
Not in-game lore, but according to the concept art section he was nicknamed Chris (CRS) during development. Other people will be funnier about this than I am
Maria Torres
Has the shortest bio and the least amount of new information along with Tomoe, honestly
Born in the slums
Was already at the orphanage at age 10 when Rosalia (age 3) came there
Ended up in rehab of some kind after the orphanage fire
Hank Freebird
Also doesn't have much new compared to the game, sadly
Joined the military out of a sense of justice, left out of disillusionment following John's death and used the medical knowledge he gained in the military to become an orthopedic surgeon (not that this wasn't already implied in the game)
His bio specifically calls him out for being kinda clumsy/goofy. Poor guy
Tomoe Tachibana
Honestly the only thing that's new is a bunch of names, so this is the one time I break my rule and cite a translation directly. TAKE THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT, IT'S STILL A MACHINE TRANSLATION
The only daughter of the Tachibana Zaibatsu, a global organization run by a family descended from the leader of the Koga Shinobi Army, Hisayori Tachibana.
Gabriel Cunningham
Nationality is listed as Great Britain. Surprise!
His wife Lisa left him with Joshua and went to her parents' six years before the game because she didn't like his lifestyle
Lisa was willing to get back together if Gabe was ever willing to talk to her properly, but as seen in the game he kept his distance. He and Lisa met occasionally over the next six years, but he never saw Joshua - which is of course why Joshua never recognized him in the game
His decision to go through with the divorce was about acceptance of his failings and a desire to do right by Joshua and Lisa
Naomi Kimishima
NOW WE'RE COOKING WITH BACKSTORY
All right, so that bit in Second Opinion where she took a Savato sample after cutting ties with Delphi and used it to bargain amnesty with Caduceus [Europe in the US version; US in the JP version]? Yeah, apparently she transported that sample by CARRYING IT IN HER OWN BODY for Caduceus to extract
Her fatal condition is a result of that, though it's already implied to be a result of GUILT in the game anyway. It was a sudden development a few years later, followed by Derek's six-month diagnosis
There's also details about her illness! Apparently her specific brand of PGS or whatever involves excess serotonin and dopamine production, which she needs meds to regulate.
It also means she's no longer able to operate on the living, which is why she transitions to forensic medicine as part of her plea deal
[Insert grimace here] I don't want to get too into this because this bit because 1) machine translation fears, 2) even perfectly translated it's not likely to be accurate to actual philosophy/terminology anyway, 3) I'm not a doctor I don't know what I'm talking about…
But the bio then starts talking about pranayama and prana, defining prana as life essence and...saying Naomi lacks it because of her condition and its effect on serotonin? I'm not entirely clear on this and I'm hesitant to say anything for sure; the main thing is that they take her illness and use the concept of prana to connect that to...
Her new ability to hear the dead! Apparently Naomi reads the prana left behind in a corpse and translates it into the person's final words via her phone; the worse the damage to the corpse (e.g., skeletonization), the less prana remains and the weaker the voice she hears is
Whether any of this relates to the Healing Touch is not mentioned. IDK man
Technically this was in S01's bio, but it relates more to Naomi: Jacob Tillman originally wanted Naomi to perform his surgery and keep it secret. Naomi was already unable to perform surgery on living people at that point, though, so S01 was Plan B
Rosalia Rossellini
Admired her big brother Erhard :(
Albert Sartre
Adopted Rosalia to study the virus in her blood (that is, he already knew about it by the time he adopted her in case that's ever a timeline question)
Additional Note
If someone with actual knowledge of Japanese corrects me and anything I've written in here, absolutely believe them over me. I'm not the translation hero anyone still in this fandom in the year 2k23 deserves, I'm just the stopgap until maybe one arrives someday.

hello! please feel free to ignore this question if it makes you uncomfortable, i totally respect it if this isn’t something you want to talk about or get into.
i’ve been seeing the sentiment that the ISSTD is “corrupt and not to be trusted,” almost always tied to discussion of asserting that recovery of repressed memories isn’t “real” or that ritual abuse “isn’t real.” i’ve also seen folks tie this into accusations of antisemitism on the part of the ISSTD for validating victims of RAMCOA. (i apologize that i do not have screenshots of nor links to these posts so please feel free to take what i say here with a grain of salt, i understand that it’s on me to substantiate my claims and i don’t have anything on hand to do so.)
may i ask what your thoughts or feelings on this are? i only ask because you are clearly extremely well read on this subject in addition to your lived experiences, and i’ve been having a really difficult time just trying to wrestle with it on my own. i genuinely hope my asking you this isn’t disrespectful, and if it is, then i sincerely and deeply apologize and want to reiterate that i respect your right to not answer this or deal with it. i don’t want to be cruel or intrusive to you at all. i would appreciate your insight if you’re able and willing to give it, but if not then i understand completely, and in either case i hope you’re having a good day and i wish you the best. your blog has been very helpful to me in getting a better understanding of all types of disabilities, not just DID, and i’m deeply appreciative of everything you do here.
This isn't disrespectful at all and is a very good question to ask! My answer will be very long because it's complicated.
Specifically the phrasing of "corrupt" for the ISSTD in regards to memory recall and RA stems in large part from TST and Grey Faction wording who launched multiple harassment campaigns against the ISSTD, specific therapists, and individual survivors. In all honesty TST engages in a lot of shock-value and primarily antitheistic politics (eg the "become a Satanist so you can say you have religious reasons for abortion" thing as if actively pairing abortion = Satanist is At All a good idea in a predominantly Christian society), and their primary reason for proposing this is that decades ago, the term used for ALL forms of RAMCOA was "SRA". It was an umbrella term for all forms of extreme abuse (because the first ones to be noticed by the psych field were cult and religious abuse survivors) and was frequently disclaimered as not necessarily being related to cults or Satanism until the various name changes for the abuse type came into play (RA, RAT, severe sadistic abuse, etc). But mainstream society assumes that RA = Satanic cult, in part because of the original usage of the umbrella term, in part because of Satanic Panic, in part because they misunderstand "ritual" as in the occult definition and not "ritual" as in "methodical" in the same way that OCD is described. Either way, TST and Grey Faction jumped on this. Also, it is just kind of weird to me to associate a research journal as having certain collective thoughts and ideologies. They don't. It's a place to submit, publish, and read research papers, and a place to get CE credits if you want to pay extra for that. There are people who know each other and work together sure, but also a lot of them do not know each other and a lot of them disagree with each other. They aren't really much different from any other research journal like The Astronomical Journal.
Recovered memory discourse began for two reasons: 1) when this issue started, which was around when mandatory reporting of abuse became the law in the states, the psych field did not have a protocol for how to handle missing memories or court abuse cases especially where children were involved. This meant that therapists, investigators, and lawyers often used leading questions or asked directly about certain things, and those types of questions are now known to be able to mess with someone's recall (eg, "what were they wearing" vs "was he wearing a blue sweater"). They did this especially due to the time crunch in court cases where they felt they couldn't afford to wait for the memories to come back on their own. 2) abused children who had become adults started suing their parents (successfully) for their child abuse, and this led to the creation of the mostly parent and nonprofessional group False Memory Syndrome Foundation. They did exactly zero science but were very loud about how unfair it was that they were getting sued by their kids, and it led to this becoming a mainstream thought that ended up being researched by others. There is no evidence that FMS is at all true and recovered memory research shows accuracy is actually very high so long as someone remembers it organically and hasn't been manipulated (by accident or on purpose) into it. (Incidentally also why I deeply hate it when people in trauma circles label others' experiences for them)
As far as the antisemitism. In psychology textbooks and papers and so forth: I really, really need people to understand that a psychologist writing down what their patient believes has nothing to do with whether they actually think that's accurate. Outside of the academic texts: I really, really need people to ask themselves why they think groups of people willing to abuse and torture other people as a collective would have progressive, unproblematic worldviews and believe people should have rights. The type of person that devalues others' lives to the point of being able to torture someone else of their own volition is most likely going to have certain views of who is "worthy" of existence and who is "worthy" of having power over others. They will also feed these ideologies to their victims. Whether because they genuinely believe this OR because they are deliberately making sure that if their victims talk, they will not be believed and will just be perceived as crazy. Again, group that tortures people, lying is not exactly going to be taboo to them. Especially when it comes to preventing victims from running away, saying shit like "oh the entire city/the cops/the govt knows we're doing this, they'll just bring you back if you run" is effective at intimidating, creating despair, and causing submission and simultaneously sounds like a conspiracy when a survivor says "the government and all politicians are in on my abuse." They don't even have to be an organized group to pull that, I've seen people with parents or in DV situations where they'll claim they're buddies with cops/judges so you can't report them or they'll threaten to call the cops on their victim. And honestly also: survivors can simply be bigoted. Doesn't mean they were never abused or that they're lying about their abuse just because they exhibit poor behavior or harmful beliefs. Otherwise a lot of the DID community and a lot of people in trauma spaces in general would magically become trauma free.
My stance on this is that I don't surround myself with people who are engaging in harmful behaviors, regardless of their rhymes or reasons for it or whether I can sympathize. This is not limited to bigoted beliefs, but includes things like paranoid beliefs, lashing out frequently, emotional regulation issues in general, people who have no ability to set boundaries, etc. (I am not trying to say bigotry is equivalent to these other behaviors, simply that I do not stop at avoiding bigotry) The cause of behavior can be understood without being tolerated. It is not conducive to my own recovery to do so, particularly because the things they say are often triggering for me as someone who used to have extremely paranoid beliefs that I was fed, as well as my own group having been white supremacist in nature and much of my abuse having a racialized aspect to it. Whether they improve or not does not affect me. I hope they do change and grow, but I do not tie myself to people in the hopes that they'll change. People will only change if they themselves want to.
I hope this is helpful for you.

The Bad, The Worse, and The Downright Idiotic
A Wiatt Nicholson Analysis
YOU GUYS HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG I HAVE WAITED TO VERBALLY KILL THIS DUDE. I HAVE BEEN STRANGLING HIM WITH MY MIND SINCE THE COLLAPSE OF THE BUILDING. AND THIS IS WHY.
DISCLAIMERS!! : One, I have absolutely nothing against any of the writers on this show! You all are doing a fantastic job for how small this series is and I do genuinely adore the work you guys do < 3. Second, I want to make it clear that I do not condone anything Sara has done on her own terms. And she has done bad things on her own terms. She has done horrible things and I do not think that should be brushed under the rug. I do, however, believe her to be redeemable.
(side note I did get a lil sidetracked when talking about sara, whom I also have strong feelings towards and'll prolly get her own rant in the future)
What has Wiatt done?
Now Wiatt seems to have his heart in the right place, however good intentions hardly amount to much when your actions directly cause death, suffering, and irreversible damage.
He can’t tell that so much of what’s going on is because Litho knows he’s going to lead people directly into his own plans. This especially became evident in the last episode. Did he not remember the risks of anything relating to Litho?? Why on earth would he think it was safe for Pen, Lisa, or even Hayden whom narrowly survived?
I know by this point to take everything character’s say with a grain of salt (and I know this isn’t directly Wiatt’s fault either), but I really wanna get into what Hayden said while yelling at Wiatt. He states that since he arrived at dreamworld, someone has gone missing every week. Wiatt has worked here for at least a year. Even considering taking a month off for the collapse fiasco, that is 47 weeks. 47 people. THAT IS INSANE. Even cutting that number in half for hyperbole’s sake that’s still 23 missing people since Wiatt started. Jesus christ man.
What else has he done? He broke Starlight after recklessly jumping into a hole, got wtdw!rainbott seemingly mindwiped, recorded entirely private and frankly unrelated moments and UPLOADED them, been responsible for the deaths of his coworkers (to name a few anyways), and what does he have to show for it? A police station that thinks he’s insane. He couldn’t possibly have been more tactless trying to convince them to begin an investigation.
It seems he thinks that because the people he’s against are bad, that automatically makes him good - in the right - but he is so blinded by his sense of a binary wrong and right he fails to see the horrible things he himself has caused.
Against the Antagonist
I wanna talk about Sara for a second. From what we’ve learned thus far, and I know we haven’t gotten all that many Sara scenes, almost all of what Sara does seems to be attempting to clean up a mess she made many years ago, in comparison to Wiatt who does absolutely nothing but stir the pot.
Sara is stuck here; she is bound to Litho and cannot escape no matter how hard she wants to. She had friends. She’s doing what Litho wants because she has to. We saw what happened when she tried to defy him. Wiatt is only here because of one connection, but could literally leave whenever he wants no harm no foul.
Now the Norman thing I am curious about, because so far, I can’t figure out why 1. she killed him in the first place and certainly 2. why she kept the footage of it. She never seemed to hate Norman, if anything she would be against him for clearly being infatuated with Andrew, and I can’t really blame her for that? I mean nothing is enough to justify murder, but it wouldn’t be in cold blood. I’m also assuming this is before Dreamworld Entertainment due to the fact that Norman seemingly had no involvement. Another odd thing not only was he rebuilt to look exactly like he did when he was alive, but he retained all of his memories as well, and was given a higher power among the staff of Watchful Eye Toys, with memory control himself.
Whatever happened during his death must have been important.
But back to Wiatt. All of Sara actions, albeit terrible, were calculated and she did what she believed was necessary. Wiatt has no concept that his actions have consequences, so all he does is messy things up, making everything far worse than it needed to be.
Why should I care? (Comparison to Eric)
At the very beginning when Eric is first introduced, we are given no reason to care at all about him. I mean, we know he was friends with Lewis but that’s not enough to really grow any attachment to him. We start learning little facts about him, but when it really clicks is during the secret tapes.
Seeing Eric outside of the main plot, his real personality, his hopes, his dreams, his struggles starting from a young age up until how he is today. We’re given the chance to build connections with him and see him as a real person, a character with depth. Knowing his motivations and what built him makes it so easy to grow extremely attached, making any horrific things hit much harder.
Now moving back to Wiatt, we really don’t get to see the real him. We see him once interacting with Lewis, but even that was simply for plot relevance. We really know nothing about him. Even his transition, which would be so easy to capitalize on seeing as the viewership of Dreamworld is highly LGBTQ+, and many people would relate. But we get more about Mike’s transition than Wiatt, and he’s only ever had one real scene as himself.
That’s not even dipping into who Wiatt is as a person. What are his passions? Who are his loved ones outside of just Lewis? What was school like for him? What got him into the mechanic business? Who took care of him after his parents died? I understand this can be hard to smoothly integrate into a story but look how well it worked with Eric’s tapes.
Now this is getting much more into the writing side of the show, but I think something that's kind of lacking is character building filler. As much as having a concise plot is nice, without scenes or even full episodes dedicated to fleshing out our cast, it makes it really difficult to connect.
There’s so so much of his character to explore that we just never get into, and it kinda makes it hard to root for him when there’s nothing backing his character. Just like, a few more tapes of Wiatt would be plenty, something outside of Lewis. I would love to see his relationships with other characters (you cannot build a sense of character off one single relationship), how he views himself, just anything.
Its incredibly difficult to analyze a character when they seemingly have no depth.
In Conclusion
I am not a fan of Wiatt as it currently is (understatement of the year), but good god am I persuadable. I just want Dreamworld to give me a reason to root for him. Something to sympathize with, relate to. Have him improve. Allow him to realize his mistakes, and become a better person for that.
I don’t think he’s a lost cause.
But give me a reason to believe that.

a-xian3 asked:
Hi RBS. I am back with an ask. I thought like celeb vlogs on YouTube earn them a certain amount, it must be the same with Weibo. But I just saw this Tweet. Is it true he does not gain any monetary benefit out of it and it's simply for fan engagement? Especially since the videos are so high quality, so the studio is definitely putting in money into production. If so, it is so sweet of him to put in so much time and effort into it. Not many celebs would do that.
Hi a-xian3!
Sorry, I removed the tweet because I don't share solo things if I can at all avoid it.
I think it's wise to take what fans say with a massive grain of salt. They have a strong tendency to interpret things in such a way as to likely greatly exaggerate both the brilliance, kindness and generosity of their idol, and the degree to which that idol fervently adores their fans.
In fact, I hereby coin the term SFN (Solo Fan Brain), to sit alongside the well-used term CPN (Couple Brain). Because truly, SFN is real and needs to be named and talked about more openly. (And I've talked about it in the past quite a bit.)
As I said in that post, solo fans (and even BXG) are used to thinking of BXG as the ones who have an interpretive point of view, and framing the solo perspective as the 'default' view that doesn't need to undergo any self-examination or questioning. But SFN is every bit as much a 'perspective' as our CPN, and has consequences just as our own does (AND is potentially every bit as deluded as solos so often characterize ours to be).
There are often just as many assumptions and interpretations in things a solo fan believes about an artist as there are in what CP fans believe, and they are just as capable of being untrue.
Identify, unpack, evaluate
When we come across a post (or any information or claim) - no matter how apparently innocuous it might seem - it pays to identify, unpack and critically examine the assertions being made. It's a really good habit to get into, and will serve you well throughout your life (and in many different areas of life).
So let's take a look at the assertions stated and implied here, and see what we can come up with upon examination:
There are few celebrities who make so much great content for their fans, and those who do only tend to do it if there is direct monetary gain involved (YouTube ad revenue, for example).
This is just false. From what I've seen it seems like most c-celebs share photo sets, vlogs, livestreams and special content with their fans. They're all using the same means to do so as GG is - Weibo, Douyin, etc., and doing it with as much frequency as GG.
And in fact, there are c-celebs who share much more direct and personal, much more intimate content with their fans. 'Slice of life' live vlogs, personal stories, etc. with celebrities talking directly to their fans about their lives and their feelings - the type of thing that GG simply doesn't do anymore.
I would list out a few examples, but I don't want to be accused of comparing GG unfavorably with others. Instead, I will invite turtles to simply browse around Weibo and Douyin, and explore for themselves. They'll quickly see that this type of content is commonplace in c-ent, and many artists share content even more intimate than what GG shares. (He used to share that type of intimate content back in his earlier days, but he hasn't done anything like that since 2/27.)
GG's content is higher quality and more expensive. That only shows how generous he is and how much he loves his fans.
It is true that GG's content is BY FAR the most aesthetic and well-produced of any that I've seen other stars sharing, no doubt about it. The production quality is always exceptionally high, and the photos are always very high resolution (thanks GG!).
But when you think about it, that only stands to reason. He is, after all, a professional photographer and designer. The content is going to reflect the high standards he learned and developed in his previous career. He has the experience and the eye to evaluate and art direct everything his studio releases. With someone like him at the helm, we can be sure that the quality will be consistently professional and aesthetically pleasing.
That will have a lot more to do with GG and his background/talents than with money spent.
His team will undoubtedly have been chosen with his high standards and requirements in mind, so there will be people on staff capable of producing content of the quality GG would expect. That doesn't necessarily mean those staff are going to be vastly more expensive than the staff other celebs hire. In fact, it's even possible such a high quality team could be cheaper.
GG is a smart man who knows the industry, and a professional who knows the industry will know what to look for in a media team. They will know which skills are required, they will know how to evaluate the quality of their portfolio of work, etc.
No doubt GG will have chosen a team that matches his expectations, but how much that team costs will depend more on what level they are at in their career than anything else. If it's a bunch of highly talented junior designers, they would almost certainly cost less to hire than the mediocre senior level media professionals a lot of artists likely hire.
By far the biggest expense in a situation like that would be the creative director for the team. That person would be in charge of conceptualizing all of the work from a communication design perspective, and then overseeing its completion by the team. And I will eat a bowl of live freshwater shrimp in a blood-red broth if anyone can prove to me that person on GG's team isn't GG himself.
So I think it could be argued that GG's background and experience likely saves him a lot of money while ensuring he has some of the highest quality content produced by any celebrity team. And that is a result of his own background, talents and aesthetic/production standards, not of his generosity or love for his fans.
GG shares this content out of the selfless kindness of his heart.
As people who are fans of both GG and DD, turtles are uniquely positioned to compare and contrast artists who regularly share a lot of personal content with their fans, and those who don't. 😅
I don't think anyone could argue that GG doesn't give his fans a lot of great content. The man is undeniably generous with content. But I think if we look closer we can find multiple reasons why he would do that - not all of them entirely selfless.
First and foremost, his fans wouldn't tolerate anything less from him (which makes the sort of effusive, self-congratulatory posts like the one you sent me... rich. Let's just say it's pretty rich for fans to say stuff like that). This is content fans expect from a top star, and let me assure you that fans are VERY vocal and demanding about what they expect. It's not unusual for fans to come up with long lists of demands and expectations for stars, and a lot of those demands will revolve around this type of content. If you doubt this, just look at the recent situation Esther Yu is facing with her fans, who delivered a list of demands to her and her team about content she should be sharing, how she should be managing her career and who should be on her team, etc. This happens quite a bit in c-ent. Fans are demanding, and they often believe they are more capable of knowing what's best for the artist than the artist themselves, or their management team. Frankly I find that type of behavior delusional and repugnant, but fan expectations are a very real factor in all of this, make no mistake about it.
He's a star. All of this content serves as a sort of self-promotion. As such, he will almost certainly make money from this content, whether directly or indirectly. Feeding his fans, putting his best foot/face forward, showing himself to be active and popular - all of this stuff serves to maintain his image and status. This helps lead to more popularity, more offers and more roles and endorsements.
Very often this content is sponsored by the brands stars endorse. Brands pay big money to have their products featured in social media content shared by the artist. For example, the vlogs and photos GG shared from his trip to Europe featured clothing from Tod's and Gucci. The inclusion of that clothing would have almost certainly been part of his contractual obligation as global ambassador for those brands, or part of the agreement he would have had with the brands when they booked him for the trip. It's typical for contracts to spell out in detail how many social media posts their products will be featured in, and that can even involve final brand sign-off/approval of the content before it's posted online. In other words, stars share a lot less truly 'personal' content than fans realize. Even if the content is personal, product placement is often a part of it.
Fan content is often part of a bigger communications objective, and/or done as part of a fan management strategy. For example the photos of GG eating Sichuanese food in Italy likely helped curtail any criticism of him as being unpatriotic or too cozy with the Europeans. Content is often shared during times of chaos and discord, likely as a means of distracting fans. We've seen this many times with XFX when they've been getting out of control on Weibo, pushing negative hotsearches or engaging in fierce fan wars. GG and his team will often share content at times like this, which I suspect serves to distract the fans and give them something positive to focus on so that they don't destroy his career so that they will stop behaving badly. Under the new governmental rules regarding fan culture, stars are held directly responsible for fan behavior, and bad behavior from fans is punishable in a variety of ways. Anything negative GG's fans do can directly harm him and his career.
So let's be honest and realistic here - fans have high expectations of stars, and will go so far as to demand content from stars, and even demand that content be of a certain tone or quality. And then those same fans will turn around and self-congratulate themselves for being so 'loved' by the star that they've been 'gifted' it all.
Yet in reality GG is walking a tightrope. Just because he does it well, doesn't mean it's any less stressful or calculated.
GG loves his fans so much!
To me, this is always the most interesting claim. XFX* seem incredibly sure of how much GG adores them.
And that's probably a really good thing. Fans who believe they're loved are more likely to be loyal and supportive (one hopes, anyway), and stars definitely rely on the support of their fans to ensure their brands are happy, to ensure their projects are successful and to ensure that they continue to be considered for new opportunities.
*Because of course when we're talking about GG's fans we're always talking about XFX. Those fans would never acknowledge that BXG are also GG fans, or that GG might have any affection for turtles. Despite the fact that GG actually never refers directly to XFX by name anymore in his material, possibly because he realizes they aren't his only fans.
But I feel like it needs to be said - it's highly unlikely that any star loves their fans as much as they think they're loved. As I already pointed out, stars are walking a tightrope in this industry. For all intents and purposes, fans have stars by the throat. And what fans view as loving and supportive, stars might experience as something entirely different.
youtube
Anyone who watched Animaniacs or Tiny Toon Adventures might remember how much Elmyra's pets loved her...
And GG has more reason than most to be wary of/ambivalent toward his fans. His fans have put him through a living hell, one that he almost didn't come out the other side of. Certainly not unscathed.
And his fans have learned next to nothing from 2/27. They are still doing all the same stuff they did back then, the stuff that nearly got him cancelled.
One of the most toxic aspects of fan culture is how incredibly competitive and cutthroat it is. Warlike. GG's fans are deeply invested in that kind of behavior. It's a big part of why he's so well known and why he's such a big driver for sales. It's also a big part of why his team is always having to try to clean up messes.
GG's solos are some of the primary drivers of the whole 'desperate illiterate' anti attack against DD, and are constantly engaging in and heavily pushing any anti attack against DD that they can get their hands on. So as turtles, if we believe that DD is GG's dearly beloved partner/husband, then we have to greet any claim that GG absolutely adores his solo fans with some degree of skepticism.
In truth, most stars likely have more of a love-hate relationship with their fans than a love-love one. Be realistic.
Why are you raining on my parade?
The purpose of this analysis isn't to undermine or debunk anyone's perception of GG as a kind, generous person. I think we have plenty of evidence to show he is both of those things. His charity work, for example, and the way he handled himself during the whole 2/27 scandal to ensure no one connected to him was harmed.
And the fact is, GG is simultaneously generous AND strategic about his career. We know he values money - he openly admits it.
Black-and-white thinking is common everywhere in our society, and it's actually one of my biggest pet peeves. Black-and-white, us/them, good/evil - this type of thinking is inaccurate and often harmful. The world isn't black or white. Almost everything is some shade of grey.
When we look at something from a black-and-white perspective we will fail to see all the implications, the nuance and circumstances surrounding it. We fail to see it for what it really is.
The common phrase, "I have a stupid question." frames people as either knowledgeable, or stupid. There's no in-between.
In reality everyone is knowledgeable about some things and lacking knowledge about others. A neurosurgeon might know a lot about the human brain but very little about cooking, for example. If she asks whether she should add salt to scrambled eggs before, during or after cooking them, is that really a stupid question?
The whole 'stupid question' thing is also a contradiction in terms, because the very act of asking a question demonstrates a quest for more information - something only generally undertaken by people who care about knowledge and facts. Let's face it, if you don't know something, the smartest thing you can do is ask someone who does. There are a lot of people out there who would just guess about it (and be wrong).
So I urge fans to look at things from a perspective that acknowledges the reality that stars can be simultaneously sincere and profitable. I urge fans to understand that money isn't automatically evil, nor the pursuit of it inherently selfish. Like everything it can be taken to a negative extreme, but in most cases it is not. Money represents so many things to so many people. For most people it represents security and the ability to take care of those we love.
I also urge fans to be realistic about how stars might feel about their fans. The idea that stars have some sort of special love bond with their fans, or view them as family, is unrealistic.
And I recommend being on the lookout for - and avoiding - black-and-white, us-vs-them, all-or-nothing thinking.
These kinds of fan statements present everything as a false dichotomy. "He is so generous" (implying or even openly claiming others are not). "He loves his fans so much" (deliberately obscuring or ignoring any other possible motivation he might have).
It's worth taking a second look at things like this and asking ourselves, "But is that true?"
Or you can just continue to enjoy the tweet, but you asked me, and this is my response. 😊

No no please write the essay I love to see people’s takes on Satanael
So it only took 14 months for me to get to this, but here we go.
Please take this with a grain of salt, I’m getting a lot of info from a Gnosticism explanation website which might not be all correct. And it’s also being written at midnight.
In the tags I left on your post, I mentioned that the biggest reason for Satanael being Joker’s ultimate persona is because Satanael is the child of Yaldaboath.
According to Gnosticism, Yaldaboath is the demiurge created by the heavenly being Sophia (which might be where Sophia, the AI from Strikers, got her name, but that’s another thought for another essay), who is basically the Gnostic equivalent of an angel (they’re refered to as aeons, divine entities descended from God the Father, and most were born from male-female pairs, along with the blessing of god). Yaldaboath was cast from the heavens into a realm below so early into his existence that he was convinced that he was the first “living” existence. It is explained that Sophia gave birth to a son that was the product of the rebellious and profane desire that had arisen within her, and due to being birthed only from Sophia and without the blessing of God, he was “a misshapen, belligerent creature that was utterly unlike the other heavenly beings.”
Because of this ignorance, foolishness, and malevolence, he created the material world, also trapping sparks of divinity in Adam and Eve. That last bit isn’t too important right now, but it’s clear that Yaldaboath didn’t make the world out of the good in him. There’s a lot of other stuff that happened that also proved that he’s not a good entity, such as creating the old ten commandments and then completely ignoring them, gaslighting those that he created into thinking that he was the one true god, and telling Adam and Eve that the fruit of the tree of knowledge would kill them if it was consumed, among other heinous acts.
As much as I’d like to back up my original claim, I can’t find anything that states similarly or differently, and whenever I do try to google it, lots of persona 5 and megaten (as well as other mythos based games and stories) come up and clutter the results, so there isn’t much. But if I’m understanding this correctly, Satanael was created by Yaldaboath to serve him, along with Yaldaboath’s other “higher” creations.
After some time, Satanael rebels against Yaldaboath, for some reason or another (again, can’t find reason, but one source did mention that Satanael rebelled with a heavenly light rivaling Yaldaboath’s). This leads me to believe that Satanael either found out about the true nature of Yaldaboath being an unjust demiurge, and that he was the bastard son of Sophia, one of the Aeons of Pleroma (greek for Fullness, literally the Gnostic name for Heaven) who atoned for her sin of rebellion and profane desire to conceive without the involvement of her own partner or the consent of God, OR he pitied humanity, OR he simply did not like Yaldaboath’s game of ruin.
In short, Satanael rebelled for the greater good of humanity, where Sophia’s rebellion caused grief and anguish, and Yaldaboath’s own rebellion from the true God put his creation of material on the path to ruin. In a way, Sophia’s rebellion created Yaldaboath, Yaldaboath’s rebellion created Satanael, who then rebelled against Yaldaboath (making Satanael basically a fallen angel), allowing for humanity to continue on in its own path of rebellion.
How does this relate to Joker? Well, we see that Joker’s story in P5 starts with him rebelling against who we think is the big bad – Shido. In most places, you wouldn’t directly rebel against an adult as a child/minor, as you’re unlikely to win. Joker’s rebellion in this part of the story is what kicks off his “fall” as a phantom thief. Shido is the one who created the phantom thieves, if you think about it, that rebel against him towards the end of the story (yes I know they fight Yaldy I’m getting there). While for a time, Yaldaboath is the player’s guide, eventually, Joker does rebel against him, in a direct parallel to Satanael. Yaldaboath created Satanael/chose Joker as the wildcard, and then Satanael/Joker saw the truth of Yaldaboath, and rebelled against him.
Personally, I would think that Satanael would be empathetic towards Joker, in that both were “created”” by Yaldaboath, and then both saw the truth of Yaldaboath, making both rebel against their creator. Kindness isn’t always a driving factor – Joker didn’t save the world for his love of the world, he saved the world because he didn’t want to live in a world where he would be punished for doing the right thing. It’s why he stood up to Shido both times, why he stood up against all of the phantom thief targets. All of them had an influential power that they used for their own gain/devices, just like Yaldaboath. And like Satanael, Joker couldn’t sit by idly. Sure, the way Joker went about his justice wasn’t correct, but correct isn’t always right, nor just.
Joker and Satanael both rebelled for what was right, even if it caused their downfalls, they were both held aloft in the end. In one text, it’s said that Satanael was brought up to Heaven, and Joker parallels this in the fact that he’s found innocent of his initial false crimes of assaulting Shido.

There's a concept that's been haunting me and I'd like your opinion as a certified Carian Expert, if that's alright: how do you think Rykard would feel about Ranni becoming a god (Age of Stars) if he survived the events of ER? I can never settle on whether he'd take it as a personal betrayal and try to fight her, if he wouldn't mind as much because as long as it stays in the family then it's fine, or even if he's too far gone to think about it rationally either way
hello!! a very good question, and I think the answer is a little complicated… take this with a grain of salt though, as it’s mostly speculation!
First of all, I think it’s possible that Ranni’s Age of the Stars was a goal they both shared at the beginning! Ranni’s Black Knives plot had the specific goal of freeing Ranni from her empyrean flesh prison so she could then directly move against the Two Fingers. We know Rykard was involved in this plan to some degree, so it’s likely he directly supported Ranni and her plans for what came next as well. Ranni does become a god in her ending, but crucially, she leaves the Lands Between for the void of space because her plan for the world is to have NO gods to meddle in the affairs of the lands. This lines up with what Rykard wanted… the end of the Erdtree’s era, and the removal of the gods’ influence. However, I strongly suspect that Rykard and Ranni ended up disagreeing on the means to this end during the Shattering.
It’s clear that Rykard’s agenda had changed when he fed himself to the great serpent… the serpent gave him the power to devour the gods and rid the world of them for good, but he also inherited an obsession with consuming and gaining power endlessly. So, regarding Ranni’s ending, I think Rykard as the god-devouring serpent might’ve been pissed that we and Ranni got to take out god before him. We essentially took his greatest purpose away! Because not only does Rykard kill and eat his victims, but he also absorbs their power… devouring the gods would have effectively made him the new god! (ironic, right?)
It’s unclear if Rykard in his current form still holds affection for his siblings, or if he even thinks about them. I can’t say for sure whether he’d feel conflicted that his sister ended up standing in his way towards world domination.

Remember that time I had to spend six hours explaining to you guys “I don’t care if it’s from an official source, if it’s not actually in the games/movies, it’s not canon” because this fandom somehow got bamboozled into thinking that the most privileged, sheltered, naive dumbass in Resident Evil had a backstory involving the mafia murdering his parents?
Like, somehow this fandom actually bought into the idea that the most Irish-looking motherfucker in Resident Evil with the most Irish fucking last name was Italian? All because of some bullshit that was said over 25 fucking years ago before Leon Kennedy was even a real character who actually existed in Resident Evil 2? I’m sorry I’m still not over it. Homie I lived the first 25 years of my life in New Jersey don’t try to fuckin tell me about fuckin goddamn Italians and the mafia, motherfucker --
Well, the Death Island info cards are the best example of what I’m talking about when I say that you cannot take anything outside of the actual games/movies as canon, because it more likely than not contradicts actual canon facts.
LOOK AT THIS SHIT ON REBECCA’S FUCKING INFO CARD
Tumblr media
Huh??????
Really??????????
Really, Death Island info card??????????
Rebecca first met Chris and Jill at the Spencer Mansion????????
THE CHRIS AND JILL THAT SHE SHARED A FUCKING OFFICE WITH IN THE RPD????
YOU KNOW, THE OFFICE WHERE SHE SAT DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM CHRIS AND HAD TO LOOK HIM IN THE FACE EVERY SINGLE FUCKING DAY??????
Tumblr media
THAT CHRIS AND JILL????????
Like. Please. Please, guys. Don’t listen to a single goddamn fucking word Capcom has to say -- especially their marketing department LMAO
The writing staff is, generally speaking, pretty damn good at keeping the canon straight within the actual storyline. But anyone outside that team? Dude, it’s a crapshoot at best if they actually know what they’re talking about or not. Err on the side of caution and take every single promotional piece and interview with a massive, massive grain of salt.

hate to even be saying this because it’s absolutely not all of them but from what I gather the recipe for money scams on this site does seem to be make a blog, max two pages of random fandom reblogs (all recently reblogged, no original posts) and then post about your medical situation, how it’s getting worse, and send a bunch of generic asks to people you’ve never interacted with before. this doesn’t mean it’s necessarily a scam or op isnt genuinely in need (even to lie about your story to do this you’d have to be desperate for something). but it is a pet peeve of mine that’s gonna inspire me to make a charity I can connect them to rather than guilting broke internet users into direct donating, when there are several red flags arising from their presence I guess? like I want an economy we can support each other like this, but that involves being genuinely honest with our needs so those of us who have a bit extra can triage who we help out first. Idk I’m rambling but this is why I’d rather be able to cook for someone directly or invite them into my house or give them cash in person and those are all things you can’t do over the internet. I don’t know the demographic of the scammers themselves but I do know there are people on this site who are making it hard to spot people genuinely asking their community of people they already know and interact with for a bit extra to get by. all power to you if you do just take them at their word. but for when you do get your own bank acc etc just like. a heads up I guess??? again take it with a grain of salt. but it’s easy to get hopeless, that’s why we gotta believe we can crack the system somehow and have a bigger impact
NGL I had the same concerns and went to check the blog and saw they had other reblogs and yeah it probably was a scam. I agree with you

* this gonna be big lol i just had so much to say :')

Based on the relationship, it would be a connection with a very different vibe from others you have experienced (when you were together). I think the most accurate words to exemplify the behavior would be "passion" and "intensity". Things would happen quickly, and you would be deeply involved with each other. In those moments when you are together, things would feel light, as if you leave all the problems outside (and that seems to be a significant aspect of the other unfolding events). I believe it would be a relationship where you both feel very comfortable with each other.
I can see you discovering common interests and even having conversations where you end up saying the same thing and laughing about it because of the strong connection. It would create a profound sense that whenever you are together, it feels like the first time. However, I also see that this kind of dynamic could become somewhat problematic because it would be like living in a safe bubble where the relationship and problems cannot exist. Even if everything seems perfect between you, external factors or relationship issues themselves could disrupt that bubble, triggering a chain reaction.
I see that the most unstable part that would be greatly affected is Mingi, and most of the other issues stem from that. Things penetrate him easily, and even though he can pretend to handle it well, he keeps accumulating it inside. You would feel that he is the person you're looking for, as if he could fulfill all the things you need, even more than you imagine. However, you would also feel somewhat helpless in the relationship. Even if you could steer things and believe you're in control, it wouldn't be entirely true... You might appear to be in control, but in reality, you wouldn't do anything without thinking about how Mingi would react, maybe precisely because he's easily affected.
So, the relationship would heavily depend on him, and much of it would revolve around him. And then problems could start to arise, such as him thinking that your relationship is a sacred sanctuary and becoming afraid of encountering problems (forgetting that issues and disagreements are quite normal in a relationship), causing him to ignore them. He would try to ignore even things that can't be ignored, like if you were upset about his behavior, he would try to compensate without addressing it directly. This would make you feel frustrated, and I don't see you actively speaking up about it. You would probably express it through your behavior. But I don't see you giving up easily, like, "Oh, he's acting this way, so I'm out," because you see a lot of potential in your relationship.
You would deeply love him and hope that amidst both of your behaviors, he would learn from his mistakes and do things differently. When I asked why you would endure these situations, The Lovers card literally came up, hahaha. Mingi would see you as a safe harbor, something solid where he finds support, someone he can rely on, someone who takes care of him. He seems to be needy in that aspect, valuing the support network in a relationship. And his desire to make this relationship work at any cost without any problems would make him neglectful.
He would overlook important things like relationship maintenance through conversations about your feelings or things that need to change. If you were to approach him to discuss the things that bother you or things you need to work on, he would say, "I understand, but I don't think we need to talk about it." or "I get it, but I don't want to waste time on this. Let's spend this time together instead of discussing our relationship."
It seems like he would often try to rush against time, maybe because he's busy, but it's as if he's frequently trying to prepare for the end, and when he's with you, he lets himself go too much. Maybe this could even cause anxiety in him, the fear of losing you, as if he thinks it's going to end, and then everything will go to hell, and he won't be able to handle it. I think that might be why he avoids problems as much as possible or doesn't even bring them up due to fear. This would affect you significantly, and you wouldn't be okay with that mindset, although I see that you would try to be understanding within your limits.
Regarding the points that would strengthen this relationship, I still believe he would end up developing a dependence on you... not in the conventional sense, but as if he becomes addicted to how you make him feel, how you're someone he can trust, a relationship where he feels comfortable and satisfied. And you would love to make him feel that stability because, apparently, it's something lacking in his personal life...
However, on the other hand, the problems, in addition to the ones I mentioned earlier, would contribute to the lack of balance between your relationship in the perfect little bubble you have and the relationship in the real world, where problems and discussions are unavoidable... as if when things stepped out of that bubble, everything would start to unravel. This would also give the impression that the relationship isn't evolving.
